In a time of global conflict, the elite international task force Overwatch formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. For a generation, the heroes of Overwatch protected the world, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery. After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and finally disbanded. Without them, world conflict and terror rose again. Governments weakened by strife ceded power to mega-corporations and private security forces. Some omnics returned to war with humans, while others remained peaceful but faced fear and violence. Overwatch was gone…but the world still needed heroes. You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. Recently you encountered the re-formed Overwatch: a grand title for two ex-agents, Winston and Tracer, operating as outlaws out of an abandoned Watchpoint. Despite their down-and-out-status, or perhaps because of it, you were inspired to join them. You left your old life behind to become the first recruit of the new Overwatch. Now you and Tracer are travelling the globe, defending the people of the world from harm and searching for potential agents to rebuild Overwatch. The world needs heroes. Maybe you can be one of them.Updates: https://twitter.com/ravenkingquestsPrevious Threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Overwatch%20QuestDiscord: https://discord.gg/t7DHUPk
Previously on Overwatch Quest: You, Mercy, and McCree went to Hanamura. Allying yourselves with the archer Hanzo Shimada, you went to rescue his brother, former Overwatch agent Genji, from captivity in the Shimada clan's castle. The criminal syndicate was backed by Talon, and a battle ensued, but you and Hanzo were able to rescue Genji, at the price of letting Widowmaker escape.
After returning to the Watchpoint, Athena informed you of a grave threat on the horizon: the god-program Anubis, a powerful and malevolent artificial intelligence, had partially broken free of its captivity by sending incomplete strings of its code out into the world web. The Anubis fragments have instruments to re-assemble themselves, eventually completing the program -- with dire consequences for humanity.
Athena has just dropped this Anubis bombshell on you. You're still standing there, trying to figure out what to do about this. The team should know about this, right? They should know right away. If you're going to be fighting this threat together, they all need to know what's at stake. You all need to be working together to beat this. On the other hand ... knowing about this might actually make it harder to decide on a course of action. Fragments of artificial intelligence aren't a tangible threat with an easy solution, and everyone will have different ideas about what to do about it. There isn't any real hierarchy here, just a respect paid by the younger members to the senior. What if came to an argument? People might try to assert old authorities. Tensions between the pro- and anti-omnic members of the team will flare. The team might not even survive. There's another person you think deserves to know about this. You haven't talked to Fareeha Amari in a long time, and as a private citizen, that's a conversation you could have put off indefinitely. But as Pharah, squad captain of Helix Security, she deserves to know the truth about what happened in Egypt. That said, you're not even sure if you could get a hold of her these days. Her old number might not work. And even if you did, what can she do about all this? She has to do whatever the suits in charge at Helix tell her to do, right? You could, in theory, keep this to yourself, and work from the shadows to guide the team in the right direction. They're all the heroic types, still somehow maintaining their optimism despite everything the world's thrown at them. But you've seen the ugly side of humanity. You know that sometimes hard choices need to be made. Choices they might not be happy about, if they knew you had to make them.Goddamit.>Get the team together and have Athena tell them.>Call Pharah.>Tell both the team and Pharah.>Tell no-one.
>>1108972>Call PharahWe should probably tell Winston too since he's our tech guy. Have him look out for traces of Anubis

>>1108972>Tell both the team and Pharah.
>>1108972>Call PharahSee what Helix is doing about it if anything. At the very least, she deserves to know, and may allow us to rain justice from above on our enemies in a pinch.>Tell the team, but after you've alerted Pharah. Link it to the attempt on Torbjorn's life. Let them know that now, more than ever, Overwatch must be reformed, humans and omnics must work together, or the world is once again to be consumed in fire. By continuing to do what we're doing, we will be able to counter not just Talon, but Anubis as well, before either can get enough power. Before Talon can sink it's claws into world governments and corporations, and before Anubis can assert it's control over the omnics across the planet. Bastion is an an omnic, and a peaceful one despite his origin and previous programming. Zenyatta and his followers are more examples of omnics that are peaceful. Humans and Omnics can and do live side by side, and by uniting to defeat Anubis, they can continue to do so.We are Overwatch, damnit, and we WILL win.
>>1108972Why does this keep happening to us?Ah well, might as well roll up our sleeves and get to business...oh and call our ex> tell the team and Pharah
>Tell both the team and Pharah.Team needs to know what is going on along with Pharah.
>>1109013Pharah first, that is.
You decide to tell everyone. The team -- and Pharah -- deserve to know. You're going to call Pharah first, though. She deserves to know the truth. She lost most of her team on her mission to Egypt -- which, you realize, you're about to tell her was secretly a failure, and those lives might have been sacrificed for nothing.Yeah, this is going to be awkward. You haven't talked to her in a few years, and with good reason. Things ended badly between you two. At the time it happened, you blamed her. Later on, you blamed yourself. Now, with the wisdom of hindsight, you think both parties could've handled things a lot better.(Continued)
Fareeha Amari was the golden child of Overwatch. Daughter and only child to strike team captain and lethal sniper Ana Amari, Fareeha grew up with the Overwatch agents as her extended family. Trained from a young age in the disciplines of martial arts and physical prowess, she idolized her mother, dreaming of following in her footsteps and joining Overwatch. When she came of age, Fareeha joined the Egyptian army, serving with distinction. Her determination and tactical acumen ensured she quickly rose through the ranks, earning the loyalty of those who served under her. With her exemplary service record and high standing with Overwatch, Fareeha was certain to be accepted by the organization. Everyone was sure that one day she would take over for her mother as strike captain. Then Overwatch disbanded.(Continued)
You knew about Fareeha Amari, of course. Every kid your age who was a fan of Overwatch knew about her. She was a few years older than you, a young adult when you were still a teenager. In some ways you idolized her: she was living the dream, the heir of Ana Amari, the chosen one of Overwatch. When all that came crashing down -- Overwatch gone, Ana Amari killed, the other agents scattered -- Fareeha disappeared out of the news for a while. She would later join Helix Security, a private military contractor, adopting the callsign "Pharah" and working to protect corporate interests against the rebels and thieves of the world. You wish you'd known about that last part -- working for Helix -- when you first met her yourself. You've made your way to a private area of the base. Okay. No sense in delaying this any longer. How do you want to do this?>Stick to business. You're just informing a Helix security operative of a threat.>Ask how she is. Talk to her as a person.

>>1109082>Ask how she is. Talk to her as a person.Hey, how's life? By the way Anubis might be reforming on the internet
>>1109082>Cordial, but professional. Tell her you have information on the God-Mind Anubis, information she needs to hear. If she questions how we obtained that information, just say that some friends from her past have gotten the band back together. With those exact words. Then hang up.
>Stick to business. You're just informing a Helix security operative of a threat.
>>1109085Changing to professional
You're going to stick to business. You're just alerting a Helix security operative of a threat. It's just coincidence that you happen to have the information. No need to make this personal. Part of you wishes things had gone differently with Fareeha, that maybe you two could reconnect. But maybe now's not the time to try to make that happen. You set up a scrambler for your connection and punch in Pharah's personal number. It rings a few times, finally being picked up. "Captain Amari speaking," says a familiar voice. "Who is this?""Hey, Pharah. It's me. Bandit."The video screen fizzles to life, Pharah's face appearing. You left your mask off in case this happened, and she had to confirm it was you. "Logan? I--" You watch her facial expression change from shock to happiness to guarded suspicion. "Why are you calling me? If I recall, you said you couldn't bear to--""It's not about us, Fareeha. I've got some important information for Pharah, Helix Security captain.""Oh. I see." She composes herself. "Then ... deliver your report."(Continued)
>>1109131Oh god this is soooooo awkward.
"I saw on the vids that you and your team took on Anubis," you say. "Congratulations on the medal and all. But I've got some bad news on that front. Your team might have taken down Anubis's head-on attack, but he had a secondary objective. He got through the security net by sending himself out onto the web in tiny parts. Fragments with instructions to re-assemble."Pharah draws in a breath in trepidation. "But if Anubis remade itself on the web, it could be a global catastrophe. Electronic countermeasures aren't at the level they were during the crisis. Anubis will take control of half the world in microseconds, and quickly turn its attention to subjugating the other half.""You can see why I called," you say. "It's kind of important. I don't know just what you can do about it. I know that when Helix says jump, you ask how high -- I mean ... sorry," you add, in response to her visible anger. "I shouldn't have said that. Old habits. What I mean is, I know you've got responsibilities. You can't just go flying off on a mission because an old boyfriend told you, without evidence, that an evil computer program is loose.""So if you don't think I can do anything, why call me?""Because ...">You deserve to know the truth, because of the people you lost.>You're the best soldier I know. >>1109157I'd usually disagree with you but I've been playing the shit out of 76 on Capture the Rooster lately and he's a goddamn beast.
>>1109170I mean, lore wise 76 and Reaper and probably the best soldiers. In game 76 is the best offense hero
>You're the best soldier I know. If anyone can anything about this, it's you.
Come to think of it, the second choice doesn't even make sense. We told her we don't think she can do anything about it, and now we're telling her we think she can do something about it.
"Two reasons," you say. "One is because of your team. You deserve to know the truth, because of the people you lost out there. "Second, it's because you're the best soldier I know. I don't expect you to break your protocols and such, but maybe you can convince your superiors that something's at stake here. Or find a way to do something off the books. If anyone can do anything about this, it's you. Or at least ... that's what I think."And because I wanted to talk to you again. It would be easy to say. Just a few words. But you don't."While I appreciate the vote of confidence, I can't help thinking ... how did you know about this?" asks Pharah, suddenly suspicious. "You just happened to detect what Helix's best electronic security experts can't?" You wonder if she thinks you're somehow complicit in all this. Anubis's human accomplice, selling out your species. You wonder if she thinks that lowly of you.>I can't tell you.>I just stumbled into the information on a job. Total coincidence.>Athena found it. Long story, but I ... kind of joined Overwatch.

>>Athena found it. Long story, but I ... kind of joined Overwatch
>>1109221This is good
>>1109200>I just stumbled into the information on a job. Total coincidence
"I just stumbled into the information on a job," you say. "Total coincidence. You know how well-informed I have to be. It's part of what I do, right?"Right now, you have to let her think you're still a criminal. That is, you are still a criminal, Overwatch is illegal. But the other type of criminal, the thief and rebel. She might tell the wrong people, and make the Watchpoint a target for retribution from yet another faction of global power. Talon is already enough to deal with.Plus, weren't some of the Helix Security robots the ones infected in the initial attack? Who's to say Anubis didn't hide fragments in Helix's systems?Pharah seems to accept your story. "All right, Logan. I will accept this information in the spirit you gave it to me. Thanks, though."You terminate the connection. That was awkward. But it could've gone a lot worse. Overall, that was probably a success. You take a deep breath and exhale heavily. "Okay, Athena. On your way to the war room, you're stopped by an unfamiliar voice from behind you. "Uhmmm ... hi! She's clad in thick winter clothes and climbing gear, probably the only clothes she had available when she was rescued. She waves at you, approaching hesitantly. "Hello! I was wondering, should I attend this meeting? It seems like something important is going on, and everybody is getting together in the war room, but uh, I don't know if I still count as a team member, or ...?" She shuffles her feet awkwardly. It's Mei, right?""Mei-Ling Zhao. <Nice to meet you,>" she adds in Chinese."<You as well,>" you respond in the same."Ohmygosh, you know Chinese? Wow!""Just a little," you say, embarassed at her enthusiasm. "I spent some time in Lijiang as a kid. Picked up a few things. Come on, let's get to the war room," you say, heading off in the direction of the launchpad."That's great, though," she says, falling into step beside you. "I know English, of course, but it's always nice to find someone who speaks your mother language, even a little. Overwatch never had many Chinese agents.""Why is that, anyway?" you ask her as you arrive at the war room doors and start to descend the stairs."The country had its own swift-response team," she said. "They didn't accept Overwatch operating as a para-military organization without boundaries. I only joined because I'm a scientist, to do what I could for the climate on a global scale.""Interesting. You can tell me more about it, but it'll have to be later. Got a meeting to deal with here. Some of this probably won't make sense to you, but we can fill you in on the details later. You let Athena deliver the presentation to the team on Anubis. You've seen it before, so you concentrate on watching the reactions of your teammates to the news that an evil artificial intelligence is trying to take over the world. Some of them react with growing horror, some with outright hatred, some with determination. As you unfortunately predicted, the room soon becomes chaotic. The Omnic Rights supporters, Tracer, Winston and Genji, clash with the anti-Omnic diehards and war veterans, Reinhardt and Torbjorn. Mercy counsels for the need for caution, while McCree thinks direct action needs to be taken right away. Tempers start to flare. The discussion starts to turn into an argument. This is getting predictable. We've got the world's only AI who actually likes humans on our side. And you've got the world's most dashing, clever, and handsome rogue -- me!" you say, pointing to yourself. Everyone lets out a chuckle. The tensions diffuse a little. Okay. You've got this. Keep going."Here's what I think," you say, pulling up Athena's new Darknet functions on the screen. "I've been working with Athena on some upgrades for her web scanning programs. I think they'll be good enough to hunt down some of these Anubis fragments. When she finds them, we add them to the crisis point index, and when we get a chance, we head out there and clean it out."Until that happens, the new plan is the same as the old plan. We stay on stop of world crisis events while getting new members. We've got most of the survivors from the first team here with us, now. But there's no reason we should stop there. More people are out there, with the skills and the drive to help us. We can bring them in on this, recruit them to our cause. Like you guys did for me."We're going to build ourselves up. Get stronger. Make Overwatch a force to be reckoned with again. What if Talon attacks us again? Hah! I say let them come. We'll fight them off again. And again, if we have to. They can't stop us from being heroes."Being a hero is something that means different things to different people. But we're all ... we all want to be what being a hero ... means ... to us. Each of us tries to be our own version of what a hero means. Dammit. I can't figure out how to say this. Does this make any sense?""I ... think I get it," says Tracer."So ... yeah. Go team!" You raise your fist in the air awkwardly, feeling heat rise to your cheeks. "Wooo!"You nailed, like, 90% of that speech. It'll help dissuade public negativity, if the New Overwatch doesn't get really big and have a private army.I'll support the 'Recruit soldiers' thing only if we don't go overboard with it, and they aren't faceless goons that people will get scared of. Just a supporting, elite group or two for the Heroes to command if there aren't enough on one mission or something. Then again, I may just be talking utter nonsense.
Anyone else hoping the Lucio recruitment mission involves Shadowruns and Symmetra?
>>1109571I'm not saying go full on Mother Base and pull soldiers wherever we find them but we should account for the fact that there are no respawns in the quest and a few bad rolls could end up with a hero dead

>>1109575No, but I do think Symmetra is a total Dominatrix.
>>1109580Pretty sure people aren't going to be dying that easily in this quest. But that sounds reasonable, I'll acquiesce to that.
>>1109582>>1109581>>1109579That's at least three people who've fallen into Symmetra's traps.Just FYI, I don't support her as a Waifu, just as an interesting character.
>>1109548Gotta get dat sponsorship money, bro.>>1109571This sounds reasonable, but Character Bloat is still a very real problem that we'll have to deal with if we go down that route--and that is probably the biggest thing going against hiring mooks. I mean the character pool is already so diverse as it is and already has so many different goddamn niches filled by so many different characters--both in personality and gameplay mechanics. Trying to stack more onto that just feels wholly unnecessary.>>1109580Then we'll just have to make sure it's the mooks who end up dead and not anyone important.Or let a Hero actually die because plot>>1109582That she is.
>>1109593Nigga I don't own Overwatch. Not enough money.
>>1109594The other reason to recruit Symmetra is because she's Hanzo's waifu.
>>1109601is that what people want (like Lucio and D.va) or is there lines in the game that suggest that
>>1109593I don't have nearly the funds to own Overwatch.

>>1109601>implying her waifu isn't PharahDonchu be starting shit in this thread, son
>>1109606Lucio and D.Va have lines that support them liking the other's work. Symmetra and Hanzo are shipped because they both have a thing for order and good intentions.>>1109614The only reason they're shipped is because they're both brown girls.
The team laughs at your verbal fumble, but they also appreciate the inspirational speech. Reinhardt and Winston clap you on the shoulder one after the other, nearly knocking you over both times.Tracer gives you a good-natured elbow in the ribs. "That was a pretty good speech, Seeker. Or at least, most of it was," she adds, and giggles."Yeah, I know, I know," you say. "I messed it up at the end, but at least the first part was good."""The world's most dashing, clever, and handsome rogue," huh?" says McCree. He lights a cigar. "Remind me what happened when you challenged me to a shootin' contest the other day?""I didn't say, "most accurate,"" you say, shrugging it off with a grin."You certainly got some brass on ya, kid. Tell ya what. The day's gettin' short, and I think the world will take care of itself for another couple hours. That bar is set up good an' proper. First round of drinks is on me, fellas.""Sounds good to me," you say. "Our movie night the other night got busted up. I think we deserve a chance to relax. Give me and Winston a minute here to set up Athena's scanning patterns and I'll join you."(Continued)
>>1109623And now I've got a mental image of Winston and Reinhardt both batting Seeker around, while Tracer slides between Winston's legs to pop up and elbow us in the ribs.ULTRAAA COMBOOOOOO!!!!
"All right, Athena," you say, typing on your datapad. "Is what I said you could do actually possible? Can you track down these fragments?""I can adapt the darknet analysis function to also scan for Anubis fragments," she says. "I believe I can find them.""What then?" asks Winston. "How can we destroy them?""Uncertain. Destroying a physical server in some instances might be enough. In others, you may need the assistance of a hacker to prevent further web infiltration."Too bad the only really skilled hacker you know already works for Talon. Upgrading Athena with that offensive hack function is maybe your best option here. Unless you can somehow get Sombra on your side, but, how are you going to do that? No idea.Winston looks closely at a screen of the scan functions beginning. "Do you have a time estimate, Athena?""Uncertain. Days. Perhaps weeks.""That's not great, but it's something," you say. "Maybe we can figure out how to make it faster later. For now, we've got some time to build up."You flip your datapad over the world map for a second. Athena's chart of world crisis points is there.>Think about your next mission.>Screw that. Go get drunk.

"All right, we're done here," you say, turning off the datapad. "Let's go get drunk with the team, Winston." You head up the wide stairs out of the war room. "Can you get drunk? I confess to not being all that familiar with gorilla biology.""I can, yes," he says, knuckle-walking alongside you. "It takes a little extra effort, so I save it for special occasions, but I can get there. I probably won't tonight, though. Someone has to watch the security tonight. It's like being the designated driver.""Aw, c'mon," you say. "It is a special occasion. We're celebrating, er ... the new lounge opening!""We'll see," says Winston, chuckling. The lounge is already lively. Reinhardt and Torbjorn have wasted no time at all in challenging each other to a drinking contest. You were thinking about trying to match yourself against Reinhardt, but after seeing his opponent Torbjorn pour himself what looks like literally a cup of lava and drink it, you're not so sure.McCree is behind the bar, pouring drinks and making conversation with the two ladies seated on the bar stools -- Tracer, Mercy, Mei, and Brigitte joining you from the Forge.Genji and Hanzo aren't anywhere to be seen, for the moment. But they're ninjas, so maybe that's normal.>Challenge someone to a drinking contest. (Say who)>Challenge someone to a game of pool.>Talk to someone.

You saunter over to the bar. "Hey, McCree. Pour me a shot, will you?""Yessir," he says, pulling up a shot glass, filling it from a bottle of whiskey, and sliding it over to you with smooth, well-practiced motions."Thanks," you say, taking the glass. "This was a good idea. Anubis is some scary stuff, but it won't take over the world tonight, at least."McCree refills Tracer's shot glass, and pours himself one as well. "A toast to yer health, fellas," he says, raising his glass."Cheers, mates," says Tracer, and slams hers back without hesitation. She plonks it back down on the bar next to a pair of empty friends. She's going at it hard. You've going to have to catch up fast! You down your own shot of whiskey, feeling the familiar sting."Hey, Tracer," you say, putting your glass down beside hers. "Challenge you to a game of pool.""You wot, mate?" Tracer shoves herself up to her feet, turns towards you, and accidentally belches in your face. You smell a waft of whiskey breath. "Oops," she says bashfully. "I mean -- yer on, mate. Let's do this!"You hit the jukebox as you head over the pool table.Soundtrack: Eric Clapton - It's In The Way That You Use It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0XQwazkx10The game begins. Lots of things have changed since the 20th century, but pool isn't one of them. It's nice, you think, that some things haven't changed since that world, when people were first going into space, or building the web.You trade a few bants with Tracer as the game starts, but it quickly becomes apparent that she's played the game before, and despite being a bit of a scatterbrain, she knows how to calculate an angle. Her being a few drinks ahead of you doesn't seem to be a major handicap, either. She confidently slams another ball into the pocket, stands up, and gives you a cheeky grin. "Want to put a small wager on it, luv?">You're on! (Describe the bet)>You're on. What did you have in mind?>No thanks.

You conveniently position yourself to subtly check out her ass in those pants as she bends over. Oh, yes. Even if you lose, you've already won.You start out ahead, but quickly fall behind after a couple of bad shots in the midgame. Everything hinges on an ambitious bank shot to pocket two balls at once. You make it look easy, then slam the 8-ball home. Tracer is in shock. "Bloody hell, that was a shot and no mistake. Guess I've put my foot right in it with that one." She sighs. "Well, you won fair and square. I'll go change."While Tracer is gone, you take another shot, then queue up the jukebox to the song you were planning to dance to yourself. She's your pal, if she's going to embarass herself by dancing, she might as well have some good tunes.

You go to the bar and get two shots of tequila from McCree. One for you, and one for Tracer, who you figure could use a little liquid courage before her upcoming trial. You meet her just outside the door when she returns, handing her the glass."Thanks," she says, taking it the glass from you, draining it in one go, and handing it back to you. She's dressed in a skirt, blouse, and boots. "I realized I didn't actually own a dress, so this'll have to do." She does a quick pirouette, standing on her toes while she spins, her skirt flaring out. "What d'ya think?""Looks great to me," you say, absolutely meaning it."Fantastic. This was my dumb idea, so I'd better look good doin 'it.""I queued up one of my old favorites on the jukebox. Just hit Play," you tell her, and knock your own shot back."Guess I'll find out what your taste in music is like, then." Tracer claps her hands together. "Orright, let's get to it already!" She walks boldly into the bar, smacks her fist on the jukebox play button, and strikes an "action girl" pose in front of everybody. "Get ready for this!"Soundtrack: Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminalhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_D3VFfhvs4#t=1m06sIt's been almost a hundred years since this song was released, but Michael Jackson is still the King of Pop.You step inside and enjoy the show as Tracer starts dancing. That girl knows how to move. She's athletic as hell, coordinated, and unrestrained, and she's got half a dozen shots of liquor inside her. The team gawks at first, but soon starts encouraging her with claps and cheering. Pretty soon she's standing on a table, arms above her head, shaking her booty from one side to the other, drawing a chorus of wolf-whistles.When the chorus hits again, she jumps off the table and moves towards you, grinning and dance-pointing at you as she lip-syncs the words. You pretend to get shot, miming a deathblow and blood spurting from your heart. Then you grin at her, stand up, and start dancing with her. It's been a while, but you're no slouch on the dance floor yourself. You hit her with a few MJ classics: the glide, the moonwalk, and even the full anti-gravity lean, impossible if the user doesn't have shoes that anchor them to the floor on command, which you just happen to be wearing. At one point an impulse takes hold of you, and you take Tracer's hand and give her a spin. She giggles. Neither of you are wearing gloves, and you feel her slim fingers against yours. The music stops while you're still holding hands. She glances at the jukebox, then gives you an awkward smile. "Err, so ..."Soundtrack: Tequila - Champshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H6amDbAwlY"That's our queue for another tequila shot," you say, letting go of her hand, relieved for the distraction. The two of you head to the bar, laughing and making fun of each other's dance moves.(Continued)
The party goes on. You try some mingling.McCree gives you one of his cigars. "This is what the Watchpoint was missin' all this time. A proper saloon. This was your idea, wasn't it, Seeker? I tip my hat to ya, sir," he says, and does so.Mercy says, "I know a number of hangover remedies, if you're interested. I learned them purely from a biomedical research point, of course, and not from experience.""I knew it," you say. "You partied in school. Med school students party hard, from what I hear."She winks at you and smiles into her glass. Reinhardt lost the drinking contest with Torbjorn. He's out back vomiting while Tracer pats him on the back. "Easy there, big guy, just get it all out ...""I do not admit defeat," growls Reinhardt. "I shall prove myself in -- *urrp* -- in glorious -- blaaaghh--" He vomits again.Torbjorn won, but that means he's already pretty drunk. And that means it's time for opinions. "These goddamn tin cans," he says to you over a glass of smoking, purple liquid that might be a molten sulfur suspension. His Swedish accent gets more pronounced the drunker he gets, and he starts to get his folksy sayings mixed up."If ye don't want something -- I mean, if ye put all yer hammers in one bag-- I mean if yer take the pig before the chicken-- gahh! We should just scrap 'em all," he announces, and takes a drink of his smouldering glass.Mei is awkwardly huddled in one of the back seats. Brigitte is doing her best to coax her out of her shell, while Mei apologizes. "I'm not really used to this," she tells you. "We didn't exactly "party" at the Ecopoint ...""What about in college?" you ask her.She sighs. "I spent all my spare time at environmental protests and community clean-up programs."Brigitte leans over and clinks glasses with Mei. "That just means we've got to get you caught up fast," she says. "Cheers, ladies." The three of you clink glasses. You and Brigitte take a long swallow, while Mei coughs on hers."Phew!" says Mei, fanning herself, her cheeks flushing. "That burns a little! I was already hot in here with my winter clothes, but now I'm really heating up. Maybe I should take my jacket off.""Yes," you say. "You definitely should."You watch out of the corner of your eye as she disrobes. Oh my god is she stacked. Okay. Not appropriate. You're here to make the new girl feel welcome, not ogle. Although ... wow."So Brigitte," you say, forcibly diverting your attention. "Did you go to engineering school? I bet you've got some fun stories.""Do I ever," she says. "Although I have a hard time remembering some of it. Centurion every weekend for a year straight will do that.""Err, what's "Centurion"?" asks Mei. "Is it an old Roman game?"You and Brigitte look at each other and laugh. "Not exactly," you say to Mei. "Although I wouldn't put it past them, it seems like their idea of a good time.""It's where you take a hundred shots of beers, and do them in a hundred minutes," Brigitte says. "One every minute. If you're really serious, you make a rule like every tenth shot is of liquor."You see a mix of awe and horror in Mei's eyes. "We'll work up to that one, Mei," you tell her. "No hurry. For tonight, just try to relax and enjoy yourself." (Continued)
Just as the night is starting to wind down, the Shimada brothers arrive. You thought about tracking them down, earlier. You imagined they were off somewhere together, having a tough discussion about honor, past sins, redemption, and really important stuff like that. So you expect that, when they arrive, they'll be forcing it a little.Instead ..."Who wants sushi?" asks Genji, holding up a platter of Japanese food. Hanzo stands behind him awkwardly, holding a second platter. The team crowds around, sampling the food. "Thish is delicioush," says Tracer with her mouth full, then swallows. "Did you make all this?""Of course! We made it together." Genji slaps Hanzo on the back, who starts at the unexpected contact, then smoothes his ruffled robe."I'm impressed," Tracer says. "I never knew you could make sushi, Genj.""Easy for ninjas," says Genji, and laughs. The group attacks the Shimada's dinner platters. You sample a few delicacies: steamed buns; sweet, colorful rice dumplings; and a variety of sushi, rice and seaweed wrapped around fish you don't even recognize. They also cooked a practical cauldron full of rice, which they insist is a necessary part of every Japanese meal. (Continued)

You find Tracer out at the cliff by the launch pad. You half-expect to find her doubled over, puking. Actually, she's sitting on the grass, her knees pulled up to her chest, looking out over the ocean. A bright moon reflects in the dark waters. She looks lost in thought, and doesn't hear you approach. You clear your throat, and she jumps."Oh! H-hey, Seeker. I was just, um. Thinking."You take a seat next to her on the grass. "What about?""Uh ... y'know. This and that." She looks away, playing with the grass with one hand. She's not a very good liar."Okay, well, you don't have to tell me. I don't want to pry. Just noticed you were missing. Wanted to make sure you were all right." You hand over the drink. "I brought you this. Make sure to stay hydrated.""Thanks, Seeker. I ... I appreciate that." She takes the bottle from you and takes a drink. She clearly has something she wants to say, but it's taking her a minute to get around to it.Finally she blurts out, "Are you really a criminal?"Oh. That."I know I'm stupid and I should have known," she says. "I heard the rumors about you, I just ... I guess I didn't want to believe them.">I was doing what I thought was right.>I was. I ... The world has a lot of bad people in charge of things. Shady people, doing shady stuff. And the people who are supposed to uphold the law let them get away with it. I mean, I get that sometimes you might have a tustle with Helix or some other security force, and things can happen, but ...""I never killed a civilian," you say. "I've done some things in my life I'm not proud of, but not that. Whatever I was doing, I tried to have my heart in the right place." You gesture around, at the two of you, at the Watchpoint, at all of this. "This is what I really wanted to be doing. Helping people, being a hero, even if the law told me I wasn't allowed to do it.""Yeah, I guess I can understand that," she says."I hope so," you say. "After all, we're both criminals now, remember? You had to break the law to re-join Overwatch, just like I did. Following the rules and doing the right thing aren't always the same.""You're right," she says. "I hate to think of myself that way, but ... I guess I'm on a wanted list somewhere, now." She buries her head in her knees. "Ugh! Things used to be so simple.""Life gets complicated," you say. "But we can still try to do the right thing." You stand up, look down, and reach out your hand to Tracer. "That's what we'll always do."She smiles, takes your hand, and lets you help her to her feet. "Thanks, Seeker." She grins. "You really are a smooth criminal, aint'cha?""You got me," you say, smiling back.

Something I've alluded to briefly is that shield systems in the Overwatch universe are all wired with an Identify-Friend-or-Foe system that links to the user and allies. The shields are able to open gaps for tiny fractions of a second to let through projectiles fired by those designated as friendlies.
The next morning is rough for everyone. You'll start by getting Tracer to teach you how to fly the Aurora. Then maybe once she gets into the pilot instruction thing, she can teach some of your teammates, like McCree or Brigitte. You also wonder if Athena can pilot a ship ... maybe you should search for a "pilot function" on the web. You'll maybe get onto that when your head doesn't hurt as much, though.

It'd be interesting to see how she does in the field, and strategic use of her ice walls will allow us to corral enemy forces and shape the battlefield in our favor. And we can keep McCree and Reinhardt both at base--the current team comp allows Reinhardt, Bastion, and Torbjorn to lock down areas of the map, while Winston and McCree provide the DPS flank security. And as always, it's nice to have a healer around to make sure everyone's health is topped off.The sooner we can grab Pharah and the Junkers the better--both their kkits will allow us to be a little more flexible in our squad compositions, and there is an opportunity for Fareeha to take up an XO role with her past leadership experience.

>>1118970>What makes you think the junkers are recruitment options? They have a certain skillset that allows them to be quite handy in a variety of situations. How we hire on these two is a bit tricky, admittedly, but can be done.Mostly I just envision capturing them while they're laying low--like right now--and giving them the choice to either really "go legit" and start helping as part of the new Overwatch, or face a UN tribunal court and, ultimately, punishment.Or depending on how much money they ask for we just pay them off to work with us.
>>1119360Or we tell them we are going blow up a lot of expensive crap and they are welcome to come with us.
>>1119392"And people will like you for blowing this shit up, you might even get some fans and gifts."Also, if we create a small base in Australia and have them just kinda "drift in" when they aren't busy we can avoid having to entertain them. Plus we might get roadhog on our side if we can show we are trying to undo the damage to their homeland (even if it is just having mercy and mei figure out some simple solutions to the huge mess that is nuked-to-fuck Australia).
>>1119360I feel like recruiting the junkers will have a negative reaction on our reputation with all the countries they stole from/blew up/etc.so we might want to consider that as a possible outcome of recruitment
>>1120434It's one of the reasons I'm not so sold on recruiting them, or even using them for under the table missions.
>>1120467plus recruiting them goes against seeker's morals of not killing any civilians even if they were stealing from people like the megacorps
>>1120467They're still incredibly effective in areas where collateral damage isn't an issue. Like anywhere under omnic attack where the civilians are already out of the way.
>>1120467They make good sledgehammers when you need something smashed, such as if we find out where talons base is, but a bad idea to use them in a delicate situation.
>>1120434Well they are terrorists
>>1121520so why should we recruit known terrorists with repeated homicidal tendencies?
>>1121556For dem hook skillsBut in all seriousness, I don't know ehy other anons are advocating the recruitment of people who hate us
>>1121595>>1121556I would only suggest using them if we find something dangerous out in the middle of nowhere that we need to blow up.
>>1120434>>1121595>>1121616The old Overwatch took from all kinds of kinds. Weapons designers, career soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities all were welcome within its ranks. Why should we be any different? And consider the PR boon this could be--we set up a couple puff pieces about having "reformed" such uncouth bandits and that could earn us some real brownie points with the law enforcement community worldwide. Do they also hate Omnics after what happened to Straya? Duh. Could this be problematic? Surely. This obstacle will simply need to be tackled once they are added to the team. And we do it clean--no Blackwatch, no dark ops, no extortion. We keep our noses clean and avoid the corruption that tore down the old team, and that means putting all of our members into the light--even the ones that aren't that photogenic.
>>1121976You realize Junkrat would never actually reform, right? It's not a question of him hating Omnics, it's a matter of him being an amoral explosives fetishist who doesn't care about civilian casualties. Roadhog just follows him
>>1122030Nah, I could see him being a good guy. Not exactly a hero but his comic shows that he's willing to do legit jobs. Just need to give him some guidance so he doesn't kill people on accident on said jobs.
>>1122104This, junkrat isn't evil because he wants to be.He has a fairly simple sense of what is right and what is wrong; a man pays you to do a job, you do it, he betrays you, you get revenge. If we can offer a good enough incentive, say...access to better explosives and such he will at least do business with us.Simple fact is that roadhog is far easier to convince, given his backstory. All we need are some more climatologists, biologists and other such people. Then we begin operation "unfuck the ozzies"(tm) and he will at least listen to us when we aren't being unreasonable.Still, we will need to see what we can do and I get the feeling that many current members would hate having them anywhere near overwatch, tracer and mercy especially given their "good" nature and tracer's reaction to us being a criminal.
