>>1017697Welcome to Shadowrun Occultist Quest! >What is Shadowrun?Shadowrun is an RPG series set in the world of 2072, 60 years after "The Awakening", the return of magic, spirits, and fantasy races into the world. Metahumanity now lives in a world of advanced technology and magic, where megacorporations are above the laws of nations and one-third of all humanity have no legal rights. Crime and corruption run amok, and mercenary operatives known as "shadowrunners" ply their services to both the criminal underworld, and to the very corporations that officially fight against them.>How are success and failure determined?A number of d6's are rolled equal to the relevant attribute+the relevant skill. 5's and 6's are successes, and the dice are rolled against a target threshold (1 for something trivial; 6 for a highly difficult /intricate task. 10 for something next-to-impossible). Each 6 rolled results in one additional die being rolled in the pool. Results are as follows:Target number of successes is met: the action is a success.Target number of successes is not met: the action is a failure.Target number of successes is met, but more 1's are rolled than any other number in the pool: a "glitch" occurs: a minor outside complication arises that prevents success.Target number of successes is not met and more 1's are rolled than any other number: critical glitch. Your actions fail in a way that is potentially disastrous for your long-term goals or your health. You will have 2 points of Edge each "session" that you can spend to tip the scales in your favor. When requesting an action, you may specify that you want to spend a point of Edge to add "luck" or "effort" to a roll. "Luck" will add five dice to the roll's pool (great for situations where Redd is forced to work out of his depth). "Effort" will re-roll all failed dice on a roll if it does not meet the threshold, glitches, or critically glitches (the point will be refunded if none of these happen). This is good when you are playing to Redd's strengths, but want to make sure you don't botch something.Good luck, and remember the fundamentals of shadowrunning:>Shoot straight!>Conserve ammo!>Never make a deal with a dragon!

>>1017705Previously...You've really stepped in it now. Thanks to your weird-ass prophetic dreams, you have hints that the Horrors- extradimensional monsters older than time- are going to break into the universe well ahead of schedule: in just 23 years, in fact. You've managed to retrieve an incredible Atlantean artifact that can help: a kind of "time-viewer" which seems to be able to show any event that has happened, is happening, or is going to happen. Lofwyr wants you to hand it off to the Draco Foundation and look into both the history of Henry Armitage - one of America's most famous early skeptics as well as a personal friend of HP Lovecraft- and a Russian group called the Red Hand. Unfortunately, the Red Hand has been looking into YOU, and had deployed a strike team to retrieve the artifact. You managed to get the drop on them and eliminate them, but reinforcements have been dispatched...

>>1017936>Fire on the speakerReally, you thought they wouldn't have someone who could assense and see us through the metal of the VTOL?Or it could just be one of them has natural thermal vision.Or it's because they're not stupid.
>>1017936Can we take a quick look around with assense?Get an idea of numbers, and how many mages there are?
>>1018063>Assense: There's 8 guards surrounding the transport. 1 of them is an Adept.

>>1018412The VTOL's systems have gone into lockdown. Possibly because of a signal sent from one of their members. Oh, yes, another important fact: all members, save the adept, appear to be stuffed to the gills with deltaware.

>>1018433Do we have the AK-97's and UZI IV's with us?

As soon as they do breach, fire on them so that it keeps their attention and provides a distraction for Rhun to get behind them and start cutting them down.Since we're actually not at the ideal placement to be firing on them, as professionals they won't be expecting that we're already outside and hunkered down behind the armored VTOL's hull.Is Rhun's sword monomolecular edged, or just a regular steel sword?
>>1018665Normal steel, despite the advice of the rest of the group. She wouldn't settle for anything less than an AUTHENTIC recreation of a Germanic greatsword
>>1018669>Normal steelYou're killing me here, Rhun!
>>1018680Well, she DID compromise by using Molybdenum-Chromium Carbon Steel (AKA industrial tool steel that's nigh-impossible to break). It's a bitch to sharpen, so it's probably better to think of her sword as a vaguely sword-shaped kanabo. When she decapitates people with it, it's more due to the momentum of the swing than any major cutting edge.
>>1018690(Note that this isn't all too different from how greatswords worked IRL: they were anti-armor weapons because they basically smashed it apart).

>>1028101>>1028141You start with due diligence: logging onto your terminal and compiling a quick profile on the major players in this drama.>Burns Family History The Burns family are, as Andrea said, old money. Originally tobacco farmers (well, tobacco farm OWNERS) in the same part of North Carolina that the Duke family grew their millions in, the Burns's managed to sell off their farms and switch to atomic power just before the Masters settlement could have screwed them out of their fortunes. When the Duke Energy company started buying up all potential competition in the wake of the Shiawase Decision, the Burnses were first in line to turn their plants over- in exchange for shares and favorable stock options, of course. Duke Conglomerated Power kept their family wealthy for a few decades, until Saeder-Krupp started setting up their fiefdom in North America. Ruhr-Nuklear bought up Duke Conglomerated for a cool eleven figures: and a ten-figure slice of that went to the Burnses- who by now had achieved a status in the CAS that the Dukes held almost 200 years ago. The Burns family are a high class of social animals: the women sparkle in the spotlight at the parties, and the men blend into the background and keep the money coming in, in-between hunting trips to Africa and Asia. The Burns family has some enemies- many rural people despise them for the Tuckaseegee Leak that left a wide tract of woodland a nuclear dump, and the local socialist and populist movements tend to use the Burns as symbols of Everything Wrong With the Country- but none of them seem to have the kind of power needed to kidnap Sophia.
>>1028206>Gloria BurnsMrs. Burns is the latest in the line of celebrity Burns's. She enjoyed a brief trid career acting in serious dramas such as "Gently Fell the Lilacs", but quickly transitioned seemlessly into the REAL career of of the Burns women: marrying old men and outliving them to add their money to the Burns trove. Her victim of choice was some genetic hanger--on of the Shiawase family tree, who stuck along just long enough to produce Sophia, then conveniently died from choking on a plum while laughing at a dirty joke during a city-wide failure of the DocWagon alert system. Mrs. Burns seems to be a major fan of jazz and it's musical progeny, often spending extravagant sums on memorabilia and owns a house/personal jazz museum in New Orleans, supposedly built on the site of Louis Armstrong's childhood home.
Satchmo's ghost is behind it all
>>1028248>Sophia BurnsSophia Burns, as your research has turned up, is three people. The first is Sophia Burns, moody mid-20's daughter of Gloria Burns, living out her life as another moon caught in the gravitational field of her mom's celebrity. In the lovely photos and clips that graced the gossip sites, she was always somewhere behind her mother, usually with a combination of crossed arms, pursed lips, and gyrating eyes.>Perception: You have to personally say that Sophia is not cut out for the limelight. Compared to her mother's million-nuyen face and figure, Sophia looks... not ugly, but plain, which in certain circles is essentially the same thing. You manage to find several images of Sophia with a number of young men in ill-fitting suits and the look of someone navigating in the waters of his social betters (or richers, at least). The second person is Shotgun Maria, the edgy, daring lead singer of Corporate Freight Houdini infamous for her confrontational, daring, and politically-active performances (such as the time she lynched the CEO of Aztechnology in effigy while opening for Switchknife Hellions at Austin City Limits). Famously tight-lipped about her background in this persona, Shotgun Maria has quite the cult following, some of whom seem to have an... unsettling level of parasocial interaction with her.>Perception: 'Shotgun Maria' is a hell of a stage persona: if you didn't know what to look for, you would say that the pale-skinned ork on stage in a black-stained wedding dress was someone entirely different from the Plain Jane at the public functions. Looking more closely, you can see the prosthetics she uses to pass as a goblinoid. It helps that she's tall and in decent shape for a human, allowing her to pass as a short, malnourished ork.The third personality is Alicia Krueger-Duran, an avid political activist and conspiracy crank who co-runs a MeFeed stream called "Citizen Eye": a self-styled "watchdog group" dedicated to "Exposing The Things They Don't Want You To Know About".>Perception: Alicia Kruger-Duran was the hardest persona to unearth: it took digging through an underground music forum and finding Duran leaking details about the group's next album to start connecting the dots. Her 'Alicia' persona is also an ork, and it looks like she just uses the same prosthetics for both 'Alicia' and 'Shotgun Maria'. This has led to theories connecting the two to abound.
>>1028301>Corporate Freight Houdini"Become the Man. Destroy Yourself. Free the World."Thus proclaims the opening screen to Corporate Freight Houdini's official Matrix site. CFH style themselves as "corporate raiders restructuring the public consciousness through the heavy arsenal of complex guitar riffs and paradigm-shattering lyrics!" They seem to be angling STRONGLY towards shadowchasers: those people who idolize the IDEA of the shadowrunner, while knowing next to nothing about the life. They have good marketing, but... less-than-inspiring talent that seems to lock them solidly in their niche. The band's six members all use pseudonyms:Vocals and Lyrics: "Shotgun Maria"/Sophia BurnsGuitar: "Sidewinder Highrise": Male ElfBass: "Fenway Mantis": Female ElfDrums: "Cat-Rabbit": Female TrollKeyboard: "Cable Burnout": Male Human>Perception: you recognize Cable Burnout as one of the men on Sophia's arm at some kind of function or another: the paper gave his ID as "rising star electronica composer Joshua Sandusky"

EIGHT YEARS AGO, HE FOUNDED UPRISING WITH THE BLESSING OF HIS OVERLORDS IN BLUE DOG TO PULL IN THE INDIE SCENE (OR AT LEAST THEIR CREDSTICKS). SHE'S EVEN RETAINING THE SERVICES OF SOME TWO-BIT CATERING COMPANY FOR IT! DOES SHE NOT GRASP THE IDEA OF "LOW PROFILE?">5 days laterHoward Leaping-Panther, it turns out, has a bit of a history as a lech: people in the art circuit were quick to divulge tales of the art dealer tripping over himself (sometimes literally) chasing after high-class tail. He never seemed to target Sophia in his escapades, however, and he has no record, criminal or otherwise, of taking things any further than the average horndog with too much money and too little sense. He attended the art show, called "Grand Guignol: Ugliness is Beauty", along with many of the more avant-garde of the West Coast art scene. "Sanguine"'s real name is Angel Maria Ripoll Arias, an Aztlanter sculptor known for his use of disturbing artistic themes, such as rape, torture, mutilation, and unnatural monsters. These works were all carved with such realism that there was talk of Sanguine having to have witnessed their subject matter first-hand (a likely event, in your personal opinion). His centerpiece of this display, "The Rape of Venus" (showing the subjugation and conquest of a beautiful woman by a horribly disfigured and withered man, captured in the act of shattering her skull with a hammer mid-penetration) caused a great deal of shock and admiration in equal measure. Sanguine also used this show to announce to a number of others a second, private show of "his most unconventional and revolutionary works" in two weeks time at a location known only to the invited.

You could physically cut it out, overload it, or there's a manual kill-code that can be sent from EP's system. >>1030455Sudo, Tizona, Barbie.I don't like bringing in this many people since it means less money because of more cuts, but we have to assume that Sanguine may be a blood mage (remember to get the bounty from the Draco Foundation) and Sophie could have hired a runner team from LA to provide security until the operation is over, anticipating that her mother would hire runners.

>>1030551Before we leave, can we have Sudo check the networks around the theater to see if there's any activity coming from it?
>>1030595She's in the clinic in San Diego and will have the surgery only after the showing. We get eyes on her, and the clinic. Extract her a day before the surgery and attend the show as planned.

>>1030640>LOCATED SOPHIA BURNS. SHE IS IN SOME KIND OF SAN DIEGO FACILITY OWNED BY SANGUINE. FORMER CLINIC.That's what our research has told us. We can have Sudo try to get (electronic) eyes on her. Whatever the case, She'll have to come to the clinic for the surgery.

>>1030736And the clinic, studio, and this retreat in Silver Hill are all in driving distance of each other? It looks like it would be better to have Sudo go to the clinic to check for activity, and bring Tizona and Barbie with us to Silver Hill to see what activity is there and what kind of beasts/meat Sanguine is preparing to take to the clinic.
>>1030788A misunderstanding: he FLEW to Tuscon, then went to Silver Hill. 6 hours away from San Diego/Tijuana
>>1030808So he spent about 4 days in Tijuana near the clinic, then flew to Tuscon/Silver Hill and has been there for the past week.Is this timeline correct?

You go up the street and towards the remains of a town square, where you see a curious statue. Hey if there's anymore questions you want answered to kill time, let me know! Rhûn is ready for your questions!
You could even ask why I usually make Redd's life harder than it needs to be! Also why I'm in the CAS instead of Prydain!
>>1032356So what does Rhun do between runs? What about her academic career? Which university or college, if any, is she affiliated with?
>>1032309How dedicated is she to shadowrunning? Is it simply how she sees herself best helping Lofwyr or does she have an interest in it just for it's own sake? Will she ever develop good tastes in music? What are her views on the other Great Dragons? How about on magic in general?
Well since I'm also here just spinning my wheels till QM gets back, I'll extend the same offer as Rhun. Fire away.
>>1032394Same as over here >>1032377
>>1032394How much time does Sudo spend on Jackpoint? How savvy is he concerning the shadowrunner decking scene?Has he thought or tried to complete his medical degree in some fashion? What started his interest in the occult, and how deep does it go? Has he experienced or seen things that Redd would consider too dangerous for a novice? Has he taken any trips to the metaplanes? What's his level of knowledge concerning magic?
>>1032405Sudo's interest isn't in Shadowrunning, it's in stopping giant eldrich abominations for causing Armageddon. He somewhat despises his job. As for music, that's one subject I didn't consider when putting Sudo together. He doesn't have any views on the other Dragons, he hasn't met them and doesn't know enough about them. In all honesty he does hold a bit of a grudge against Lofwyr for forcing him into this, but he's had opportunities to walk away since then, and has chosen not to, mostly due to Redd.
>>1032406Not as much time as you'd think, actually, especially for someone with aSudo has connections to a gang f hackers that have been his friend since childhood, and he used to work with them quite often, but beyond that not so much. He only got back into decking a few months ago.He has thought about it, but he couldn't do it and Deck at the same time. If he ever walks, it's one of the first things he'll do.Sudo's interest started... you know what? I'll let the QM tell you. Redd was there when it happened. Since then, Redd has kept him on a tight leash, uncertain as to whether or not he can handle it. Although he did take him on a trip to a different metaplane with him, once. Knowledge concerning magic? Not too much.
>>1032406>>1032432Shit, made a mistake with that first sentence. What I meant to say was "Not as much time as you'd think, actually, especially for someone with a reputation as he does. Sudo's hack that brought down Hermes several years ago made him a bit famous on that site."
>>1032374>>1032377I go to Dante's Inferno, training and excercises, reading, exploring the city and in general messing around. Gotta know your town and know your people. I invite Rex and Sudo on outings but Sudo doesn't like to go. Also I shop my particular fashion of clothes with Barbie, and sometimes talk to Redd about the mundane historical stuff I enjoy.Running is just what I do, doing it for Lofwyr is just a bonus, although I'm slowly growing to love working with Rhonabwy more because he's nice(er). What are ya talkin' about? I have great taste in music! I love almost everything except American Country and Easy Listening. Metal just attracts my kinda people more. Besides, I don't judge people for their tastes in music, Redd just has a stick up his ass about things like that.I don't really care about that stuff because I don't know about it. Other dragons don't care about me so I don't care about them. I have to deal with spirits being pissy at me all the time so I pretty much have to know something about magic. As for my prestigious academic career, it was an attempt by my da to get me to not be part of his old gang, but then I got into a spat with the NW Kings in Manchester and then there was the time I helped burn down part of Oswestry. I have ruined a lot of things for a lot of people.I graduated from a Carmarthen public school partially funded by Rhonabwy, and I used to sing in the choir before I got into running. I graduated from Chester College with a Masters in British History, with specializations in the Medieval and Classical periods. Then my gang ran me off to Denmark to keep me from causing trouble then trouble happened in Stockholm when I went to compete in Lefcon in an AR fighting game tourney (placed second globally!). Then I got dragged to Austria, the Free States, then booked it for the CAS when I got a message from S-K about work in the CAS. My current alias is as an adjunct professor at Chapel Hill.Hope this answers some questions.
Also I'm part of a band called Razor Crusade. Yes, I think the name is stupid, I wanted to call it Alkanai or Staurakian but our other guitarist Ashbringer (her nickname not mine) didn't want to change it.
>>1032465>My current alias is as an adjunct professor at Chapel Hill.Do you have office hours? Teach any courses?
>>1032516No because I live in Charlotte. I do often get mail for research assistance like there's not a librarian. I'm basically a student aide for British History. Last time I checked there was some dude named Spellman spearheading that. Plus my area of expertise is delightfully unstudied so nobody ever does anything on it. Also I get to grade people's papers sometimes. I try to do an actually good job but I don't dedicate a lot of time to it.
>>1032552I was hoping to introduce you to Corrigan while you were working security mate. I hear she loves the company men despite her punk attitude. If she's still in town I'll try and set it up. You game?
>>1032554Sorry about that, technical hiccup.I'll consider it when off the clock
>>1032575Anyway ask feel free to ask questions.
>>1032575What's Rex's military background?Does he have a specialization? How badly did he take getting demoted to a runner team, from being an S-K internal operative?
>>1032673I was a demo/heavy weapons specialist attached to the UCAS Army Green Berets. I also have extensive training in Kravmaga and Gun-kata. During my service, I was deployed to the Sinai Peninsula to stop some warlord oppressing the region at the rank of captain. Most of my squad was wiped out execpt for a few others (Namely Rusty Shackleford, an Intel operative). With regards to the demotion, I was supposed to be an overseer for the gang, but became reckless thanks to Rhun's influence, running over a major crime lord, and losing high priority asset (Redd). This was damning to the annual employee evaluation as one imagines. You wouldnt believe how much resources were expended on that gang war along with a SK safehouse being compromised. Though, I'm only on probation, not outright fired. I liberated Redd after coordinating a massive siege on a Halloweener stronghold with only 83 people (mostly a rival gang and a small runner team for back up). They were all left to be arrested by Lonestar while I ran off the police and was heavily dazed with Redd.
>>1032807Is Rex the kind of operator that sticks to just one weapon and one weapon only, or does he prefer to have a wide collection and a weapon for every possible situation/target?
>>1032857It varies by mission, but I keep a Winchester 2064 military shotgun and an Ares executioner SMG on hand when I'm deployed in the field. There is a sliver gun too, though it's underpowered to me. Pacey Ray, my thunderstruck gauss rifle, can be found in missions where heavy combat can be expected. If push comes to shove, I'm willing to engage in hand to hand combat with foes. I can dominate my opponents with Kravmaga and Gun-kata at melee range. I can further shock my foes with a pair of electro-gloves. And when that fails an armored van at ramming speed kills most things. As you can see I'm a major threat at any range. In terms of defense, I wear armor weave clothing (currently in the market for some surplus military grade armor; that gear is expensive). This is further enhanced by aluminum weaved bones for durability and gene modded shark skin to make it difficult to grapple me.

>>1033168>>1033130You quietly slip through the doorframe of the bodega. The interior appears to be some kind of mass dwelling space. A shrine of some sort is erected against one wall, with many candles surrounding it. >Perception: the statue appears to have been a brightly-colored veneration, but its colors are now faded and dull. Someone appears to have taken a chisel to its face, carving off all of its features- with the exception of the mouth, which has rusty stains smeared on it. Flies circle around a piece of rotting flesh placed before it.Two men in a uniform of some kind- brown clothes nominally better than the torn rags of the townsfolk. The time for the Communion approaches.>>""<<Please... just let me say goodbye to them.>>""<<... Two minutes. If you flee, your family will come with you.>>"The man walks towards the door, his body shaking. The men with the ice box follow. You withdraw deeper into the shadows as they pass by: they don't spare even a glance in your direction. You approach the shrine and examine it in more detail:>Perception: a name was once written on the plinth of the statue, but it has been deliberately chiseled away. You can see the rusty stain on the mouth is some kind of blood: the thickness and spread of the stains looks like it has had layers of blood smeared on it's mouth over time.>Assensing: A blend of fear and reverence clings to the statue. The faint magical aura typical of a worship object emanates from it.>Knowledge: Magical Theory: This object isn't charged enough to be used as any kind of magical object yet: but with further worship, that could change.>Knowledge: Religion: The religion of these townsfolk clearly derives from Catholic beliefs: not surprising that they would live here, due to the fact that the Christian faith is illegal in Aztlan. But the faith seems to have been distorted at some point to focus on the veneration of this faceless saint-figure. The emphasis on the mouth in this statue and the cleft on the other seems to emphasize a ritual act of consumption: the bloodstains and the ice box make said act... sinister in your mind. The fear that the town directs toward the church suggests that the church houses the faith's temple, and that the church demands a sacrifice from these people. The position on the hill, and the clearly Cthonic nature of certain iconography you saw passing through the town, tells you that there are tunnels beneath the church that likely house the TRUE temple of the faith. In summary: this town's faith is some kind of syncretic faith blending Christianity and some dark Cthonic faith that demands human sacrifice.SINAISHOGUN: ICEBOX MEN ARE ESCORTING A PEASANT FURTHER ALONG THE ROAD. A stake is driven in the ground halfway between the hatch and the mouth of the alley, with a complex sigil engraved around it.>Knowledge: Magical Theory: You don't recognize the exact nature of the sigil, but its angles seem to gleam with malicious power.>Knowledge: Religion: You've seen an illustration like this before, in a book on Sumerian sacrificial rites!"Looks like some kind of bomb shelter. They then roll the ice box up beside him and start quickly heading back up the alley. You and Rex press yourselves up against the wall as they walk by, and you catch part of their conversation as they walk away:"<<Move your feet faster, man! The one pulling the icebox seems permanently hunched over, and you can see... protrusions of some kind on its back, masked by the robe. The other one is a towering figure- eight feet at least- but is emaciated, if the way the robe hangs on their body is any way to judge. As the figure comes to the unconscious guard, it bends down to take a closer look, and its robe shifts slightly, giving a brief glimpse of a gnarled hand with at least eight fingers, covered in a patchwork of surgical scars, with each finger ending in a gleaming bladed nail made of some brassy metal.>Assensing: Pain. The glass appears to be attached to a pair of goggle lenses surigally attached to the face. The hands are abnormally large, and each have nine fingers on them, terminating in the brazen blades. Further surgical scars dance crazed spiderwebs all over the fingers and bisect the hands. Both hands, you notice, are right hands. There, you see Sophia Burns, suspended in the middle of the suite:Spikes of bone adorn her outer arms all the way to the shoulder, where they form some kind of epidermal coating, rising into a ruff of rib-like spine and stretched, living skin. Her head is bald, bristling with implanted horns. Her face is a patchwork of artfully-inflicted scars, which, combined with her mouth of needle-like teeth and eerie symmetry, makes her both erotic and repulsive. Nails of shining gold have replaced her natural finger and toe-nails. A tail sheathed in bone deposits, ending in a gleaming golden barb, winds between her legs. Her breasts, navel, and crotch have had additional skin layers added, making her appearance sexless, like a model toy. Her skin is flawless, like ceramic, with subdermal gold deposits in the shape of strange sigils across much of it. Complementary silver patterns form the mock-outline of a dress on her skin. And-the triumph of the whole thing- a pair of mock wings bloom from her back, leathery and bat-like.>It's... beautiful>It's... hideous>Why would someone do this to themselves?>What a waste of talent>Write-In

We'll need a way to get her back to the CAS without going through normal channels. >>1037066>get her down>when she's got an IV drip, there were complications in the surgery mentioned so we don't know if it's even safe to move her right now, and she's sure to get violent when she regains consciousness and realizes we're keeping her from realizing her dreamsYeah, how about not doing something stupid like that.
>>1037078She can't stay up there, so get her down as safely as is possible and after having done whatever's necessary to ensure she's stable.
>>1037018Shit, forgot a legit option:>(Call Mrs. Burns)
>>1037118>She can't stay up thereYes she can, it's a medical surgical suite, and she's meant to be up there for surgery. Having her stay there does not harm her, and in fact, helps Sudo reverse some of the surgeries/make her more easy to move out/safer for us to handle.
>>1037078Doesn't Rex know a guy in the intelligence community who could help us out?>(Call Mrs. Burns) She needs a status update
>>1037140I mean that we do have to get her out of there and to her mother at *some* point in the near future. She can't stay up there indefinitely, so she's gotta come down as safely as possible. Also, why would we reverse anything when that wasn't what we were hired to do and this is something she actively wanted. Do whatever's necessary to stabilize her condition and make her able to be moved, but the rest is between her, her mother and a team of highly skilled and paid surgeons.
>>1037171Yep. His friend "Rusty", connected to the UCAS's intelligence agencies. Solid guy, but major conspiracy crank.
>>1037173Because we need her kept in the surgical suite so that Sudo can identify the complications, determine if they are life-threatening or will impact Sophia's health if she is moved, and remove/stabilize her for transport. And Sudo said that we have to amputate the wings if we're going to move her. So let's wait until he finishes that before taking her down.Otherwise we'll just have to put her up in the suite again when it comes time to get her out of here.
Mrs Burns, if given an update about this, WILL order us to kill her.
>>1037228So we agree that she can't stay up there, then>get her down as safely as is possible and after having done whatever's necessary to ensure she's stable.
>>1037241I agree with this; getting Sophie down first is a good bet, then we assess her condition and move on from there
>>1037241Yes, we agree that she can't stay up there but you're voting to get her down before we have any way of getting her out ready, a way back to the CAS secured or even planned, and your original vote was to just get her down without doing any of the prep work that Sudo said was necessary.
>>1037252>I agree with this; getting Sophie down first is a good betI just finished pointing out that she needs to stay in the surgical suite so that Sudo can work on her and so he can better assess her condition than if she's disconnected from the machinery.
>>1037253Couldn't we use Rusty, Rex's CIA friend, to find a RELIABLE connection to help us cross into friendly territory? If we need to cover travel, we can add it to the hazard pay.

I am going to examine the terminal."There are, in fact, TWO terminals in the room. The first appears to be hooked up to surgical equipment of some sort, so you disregard it and go for the other one. Jackpot. This is Sanguine's personal terminal. It appears to be partitioned into four sections. The first is the camera system access: you can see easily two dozen more... victims of his madness throughout the facility, shuffling about, carrying out day-to-day tasks: a six-armed monster folds sheets in a laundry room, arms occasionally spasming in a way that's painful to watch. A grotesquely swollen and obese figure uses its one functioning hand to stir a massive cauldron of unidentifiable stew, a waterfall of drool falling out of its loose jaw. A grotesque monster, barely visible in a veritable fortress of rusted supports, clatters through the halls, pulled along by a pair of impossibly long arms. One camera shows a chamber dominated by a large concrete pit. An elderly man in a feather headdress is asleep in a chair made of bones near it.The second looks to be a diary. All of Sanguine's "work", the processes he developed, semi-coherent rants to the camera... it's all here. The third appears to largely maintenance programming: there's a section marked "EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE". It appears that, in case the base is compromised, Sanguine was to activate a drive wipe and flee to an escape vehicle with personal copies of his research notes. The base would then seal and fill with an acidic aerosol, melting all evidence. The fourth section is an inbox. message chains between Sanguine and Aztechnology fill it up.>Copy research data for later sale>Copy research data for personal use>Delete research data>Copy inbox for later sale>Copy inbox for personal use>Delete inbox>Initiate emergency shutdown>Call in Sudo to amputate the wings>Write-In

It will delete all data, we leave a copy of the data with Angel and leave him, the data, and the vehicle somewhere. When Aztechnology picks him up, he won't remember, but since he escaped with the data and the shutdown protocol was initiated, Aztechnology will assume that he was attacked, he escaped, and that the attackers were trapped in the facility and died. That will keep them from thinking to hunt us down if they believe we're dead.If he can do it in the time we have, we should also have Sudo drop some tracking worms into the data we leave with Sanguine, so that Lofwyr can make the determination later whether to send more assets against Aztechnology, or simply observe for now.

>>1038969This isn't brainwashing, though. Memory erasure and identity reconstruction are about creating a new person. The brainwashing that Redd describes sounds more like forced mental responses rather than erasing his identity. What Sudo is trying to do is ego death, not brainwashing, and our academic skills should be enough to know the difference. So no mentioning brainwashing because this is not what he's doing.>Write-in"Sudo, stop and think. Or would they put it down as a loss and simply move on?
>>1039014>>1038987I vote for green anons second idea. Because ego death is kinda worse you're just mentally killing the dude just like he did all these people. Kinda shit in my opinion. Also risky because blood magic psychos own this man.
>>1039014Why should he be against bodyjacking, but be fine completely fine with ego death? I'm sure he knows the difference. I'm saying he's iffy about mind fuckery and at least have his backstory to lean on to support that.
>>1039046He lobotomized those people, that's why they're mindless monsters, not because he wiped their memories. He'll essentially be a clean slate if we wipe him.
>>1039052If you want to talk about backstory, how about that out of everyone, Redd is closest to Sudo?
>>1039046I'm actually against the ego death and bringing Angel with us. I want to stick to the original plan of leaving him with a day's memory wiped, a cracked vial of Laes to explain the memory loss, and being easily picked up by the Big A.Aztechnology, being the masters of blood magic, likely have a sample of Angel's blood that they will use as a sympathetic link to track him.And the people here have been lobotomized to subservience, their intellect no longer able to understand their situation.Ego death would mean being able to become a new person. It's the same as a bullet to the head, something that Redd is no stranger to doing to other people.>>1039052Killing a person, whether physically or mentally, is different from keeping them enslaved. And killing a person is something that Redd hasn't had much qualms against.
>>1039087And to be clear, enslavement is bad, murder is worse. But we're a shadowrunner and Angel is an Aztlani involved in their blood sacrifices so I would prefer to kill him if there were no consequences, but because there are likely to be consequences, I would prefer to not kill him and not take him with us.
>>1039077Yeah, and now the one he's closest to wants to do something like this. As for being fine with killing, Redd should know that there are far worse things one can visit on others than simply killing them. I can imagine him being fine with shooting someone in the head and lose no sleep over it. Harder for me to see him be complicit in ego death or bodysnatching.
>>1039097Yeah, I don't want to deal with cyber Jaguar-Warriors
>>1039097I'm also for this.
>>1039109Ego death allows the soul to accrue better karma by becoming a better person. The worse things than simply killing them involves taking a person to the metaplanes and related ritual sacrifices. And in this Sixth World you need to make a distinction between bodysnatching (which is a specific crime and occurs when the soul is away from the body) and hijacking (not to be confused with bunraku parlors and consensual personafix use). And that's not even actual brainwashing.
>>1039161(Redd, IC, has serious personal moral concerns with interfering with a person's mind and free will like this: destroying a SELF, to him, is worse than just killing someone, since an afterlife of SOME KIND exists in certain)
>>1039161Long and short of it is that I personally find it to be a monstrous thing to force on anyone and you clearly don't think Redd would particularly care. Only Redd's opinion on it matters. And I'm honestly fine playing him however way he views it.
>>1039195>destroying a SELF, to him, is worse than just killing someone, since an afterlife of SOME KIND exists in certainWouldn't that be destroying a soul, and not a self?Because as long as the soul exists, it can still go to an afterlife.Or are you referring to the metaplanes related to afterlives being chosen by the current self at a subconscious level as represented by the Guardian of the Threshold? If that was the case, then what about those Buddhists who achieve ego death as a part of their enlightenment, or those that suffer it due to dementia and neural degenerative diseases?
>>1039195Which makes the fact that it's Sudo suggesting such a thing all the more upsetting. I'm sure we can blame it all on our decker's heightened stress levels, caused by being so close to the action, and maybe sweep it all under the rug after the mission's over. We were the one that decided to take him with us, so we'll likely let this go.
>>1039218I'm sure a lot of these beliefs are tied up with his very, very visceral experiences, so they might not be very rigidly thought out.
>>1039218The basic idea is that if someone is killed, they aren't destroyed because their soul goes on to the afterlife. If someone's ego is forcibly erased by another, they are DESTROYED in a way that merely killing someone cannot accomplish, and distorts that soul, possibly forever. The only thing worse is destroying a soul entirely. To answer the other two questions: Redd views the former as a spiritually sick practice (from his subjective viewpoint), and the latter as incredible tragedy.
>>1039282>If someone's ego is forcibly erased by another, they are DESTROYED in a way that merely killing someone cannot accomplish, and distorts that soul, possibly forever.Okay, that's something that I had not gotten from any of the discussions of the self, the soul, and the afterlives from the sourcebooks.I was under the impression that since the soul is, while connected and co-dependent on, separate from the body (otherwise how could the soul astrally project and shedim bodyjack unattended bodies), and while removing body parts doesn't affect Essence but implanting cyber/bio-ware does, that memory and self did not affect the soul unless the chemicals used to alter memory also were disruptive enough to the holistic astral system of a soul in the first place. But this also means that the soul is mutable and can be altered and molded far more readily than previously thought.
"Sudo... this man is owned by blood magic wielding lunatics. The risk involved in dealing with him is IMMENSE. Just... wipe a day's worth of memory and leave him in the escape vehicle."Sudo approaches Redd and put his hands on his shoulders, looking him in the eyes. "Redd, I know you're right. The simplest thing to would be just to take a day of his memory, and use him as a scapegoat. I'm doing this because I have the opportunity to pull something good out of this god-forsaken Hellhole. The man who orchestrated this, who created all these monsters, he dies. But maybe I can let someone better walk away. No, he doesn't deserve a second chance, but neither did you when we found you. And of all of us, I was the only one who argued for your life. Rex, Rhun, Tizona, all of them wanted to kill you while we had you helpless. Because it was easy. Because we'd still get paid. Because the only reason I had for fighting for your life was because I thought you could do better. And I was right. I pulled a madman out of that Cathedral, and since then he's become my friend and my teacher. I'm begging you, let me do something right.">Memory: you remember the first time you and Sudo met. You were still laid up in a private hospital controlled by S-K. Sudo had come to your room with questions about your occult probings and subsequent possession. In your desperate, mind-scrambled state, you offered Sudo a chance to study under you if he interceded with Saeder-Krupp on your behalf. At the time, you thought he was just a fool you could quickly shake off: but he proved to be an intelligent and ambitious student you thought worthy of sharing your secrets with. >>1039410>... I trust you, Sudo.Because of the Aztech afterlife, yeah, I don't think keeping him from that one is going to keep me up at night.>>1039426You mean in large doses. There's a booming black market for the stuff, and the Tir uses it heavily on their border patrols. In normal doses it shouldn't damage the soul as there's no associated Essence loss, though it'll take days to weeks of memory away.
>>1039410Has Redd talked with Sudo about the afterlives that exist on the metaplanes, what happens to the soul, and how it can be damaged?Since Redd hasn't suffered Essence loss, he only experienced brainwashing and he didn't have his soul damaged, just his mind.
>>1039462(The latest source on Laes says that it erases memories beyond the capacity of magic in ALL doses. Also: the level of memory-erasure Sudo wants to pull off would be to the level of damaging the soul, especially given the fact it's being mixed with another magical drug)
>>1039494If soul-damage affects whether you can go to your afterlife, what about the street sams who get cyber and bioware, cutting their Essence down close?
Okay, I think this thread is getting derailed into areas I will fully confess I am not an expert on. All I am saying is that, from his SUBJECTIVE POSITION, pumping a man full of enough Laes to annihilate his personality is as fucked-up to Redd as removing the personality of an AI to turn it into a corporate brainwashing machine. This doesn't make agreeing with Sudo the "wrong" choice: it just means that Redd will have trepidation about this.
>>1039537That's basically how I view it here >>1039257This is an area that's hitting way too close to home for Redd.
>>1039537Fair enough, if Redd is hitting the limits of what he knows as a magical researcher not in his field of specialization.
>>1039442>>1039462Voting between these two. First vote decides.
>>1039756>...I trust you Sudo. Just remember that He is YOUR charge.
>>1039768Complicit in ego death it is then. We should think of a way to deal with the blood magic and sympathetic links he likely has.
>>1039841How's Tizona going to react when we bring this guy back? She hates the Azlanti and may smite him with the power of OG OT God.
>>1039865Might make our lives easier to be honest. But we're all in on memory-wiping and rewiring this guy and having a veritable newborn around for the foreseeable future. Our corporate overlords likely have ways of beating the blood links the Azzies have on him.
>>1039756Reds didn't bring up the blood magic/sympathetic link issue; I think that's a major oversight that needs to be addressed. We brought it up, so why didn't Redd?>>1039865We'd be sending him straight to S-K, was my impression. That way we don't have to deal with an angry nun.
>>1039909Ok, thanks for the clarification. For a moment I thought we'll have him live in the safehouse's basement
>>1039909He's Sudo's pet project though, so I imagined they'd leave the rearing to him. With his memories, he'd have been valuable. Without, he's an overgrown child that'll need their hand held for a good long time (unless we put some cyberware in him, bunraku style).
>>1039943Even if we use personafixes on him, that would negate the value of his natural surgical talent, since her would be limited by the software.

>>1039955He won't have any very soon. The memories will be irretrievable very soon, and trying to teach it all to a relative newborn seems like a lot of effort. Also, there's no telling what he might've learned from the Azzies. We should also take as much of the Laes with us as we can safely smuggle. Being okay with all this does open up some new options for us going forward.

>>1040365> (subvocally) REX, FIRE NOW, HE'S GOT A SPIRIT!If the mage dies, the spirit is freed and may just decide to fuck. Or it could very well like the guy and take issue with his sudden death. Might also not even be this mage's spirit and when we kill him, it'll kill us and report back to it's master.I'll back any better plan put forth at this point. Just remember that any interaction with an unknown mage with unknown spells is bad news and likely to lead to disaster.
>>1040428decide to fuck off*
>>1040365Well I don't think we can bluff a spirit, especially if it or the mate assenses us. Therefore we need to either avoid them or kill them. Killing them would, however, be loud and attract more enemies down on us. I say we find a different way.
>>1040365Before we decide, can we activate the emergency shutdown remotely?
If the mage or the spirit decides to look at us in the astral (and the spirit does that automatically if it looks at us) it'll see that we're not Sanguine, and that he is actually on the trolley. We can't bluff our way past that. So we either need to shoot now or take an alternate route.I would suggest that taking an alternate is the best course of action: Aztechnology may know of this spirit and have its name on file. Another blood mage could summon it and ask it details of what happened here.If all it knows is that suddenly the shutdown protocol was engaged and the vehicle needed to escape was gone, that's slightly better than if it got a look at us and can confirm that someone attacked the facility rather than leaving it in question whether there was an attack by shadowrunners or Angel decided to go rogue.>>1040365> (subvocally) Rex, hold your fire, he's got a spirit on him! We need to find a way around.
>>1040781Nope! It can only be activated from the central terminal or from an Aztechnology master control located in Tuscon (the second option was implemented to prevent Angel from going turncoat).
Rex's player is back to provide something that might help. Rex is an asteral chameleon, meaning it is hard to assense him.Not sure if this is helpful, but it might help you get another option.
>>1041040Well that would have been useful to know. Can our Decker activate it from a distance? Also, how does it work if it kills everything in the place, but requires a person to be in the place to activate it?
>>1041040How well covered are the two on the trolley? If the cloth is thick and covers the entire trolley, it might obscure the auras of Sophia and Sanguine.>>1041125There's most likely a timer, since it was said that Sanguine was to activate it then run to the escape vehicle with all of his research notes.
>>1041081The problem is that Sudo and Redd are still easily recognizable, and we don't want anything having a trace of us.
>>1041194I don't suppose Laes works on spirits too?

>>1041587Negotiation might also be good. Everyone leaves a little bit happier, and a lot less bloody.
>>1041638We also need to considering improving our Magical Theory. We have the directive from Lofwyr to investigate the Red Hand, so we have to consider skills that will help with that. Also, instead of improving just Pistol, we need to consider Automatics so that we can use our machine pistol to its full capability. But in regards to our gun skills, we can use a smartlink to cover for some of our weaknesses.
