You turn and open the door. You see something you didn't expect.
It's a young man wearing a cleanly pressed butler's uniform. He has shoulder length, red hair tied back neatly at the nape of his neck, and he is carrying a tray with breakfast on it: eggs, toast, tea, and orange juice. He nods to you silently and walks past you to put the tray on your desk.
Samantha, your head maid, follows . . . you used to know him/her as "Katherine," into the room. "Sir," she says, bowing respectfully. "I'd like to introduce you to Kristopher. He's our new hire."
"I thought we'd already hired up?" you ask.
"Katherine. . . left suddenly last night," Samantha says. "She's not sure when she'll get back. Thankfully, Kristopher here was looking for a job as a valet."
You turn back to the new hire, a sinking feeling in your chest. Yup, it's definitely "Katherine," but she/he looks a lot different now.
