Tried to post this last week, internet went nuts on me. So take II

You've arrived at the ruins, in order to find some magical thingy as prophesied by a troll fortune teller. Apparently it's guarded by some kind of shadowy clawed beasts you're yet to identify. En route your party took numerous casualties from a fight with two fists of trolls and a Virman raid.

    Previous threads:

You've only just moved on from the virmen skirmish, having ascertained that it would be suicide to go after your men in the virmen warrens. How many of your men do you leave up top to guard?

You have Leold, Doobs, Shorty, Cohen, Clint, Aegon, 2 Men-at-Arms, and 2 Yeomen still alive. No-one is uninjured, but Cohen and Leold are the worst hurt.

The bulk of Du'Zul'Un's prohesies, repost'd:

"First, pri'ya your fist. Not lil'fist. Mo'fist. . . Family? They does have two swords, of the Zul. 2 Mo'mo'sul'swords. You get this one. You both have big wyrd, but your wyrd I know. You will fight with a lil'gon. On or against the small'gon is hojo, messy. But if you fight aganst the lil'gon you will get glory, but die young. Young and famous. If you ride the lil'gon, you will get mo'fame. Much fame. Will be mo'eep, much feared. And might die very young, morr'juvie. Or might might live long, mo'rich. Goo'ani. Good life. Now did you bring gift for Zul'dan?"
"You bring goo'gift for Zul'dan. Zul'un tell you of something special. Down below, where the clawed shadows lurk, there is a tresure of mo'value to you. If you go now, you get it, mo' much valor, but treasure remain a hojo'wyrd, messy unknown forever. Return in two moons, and the treasure will show it's Wyrd to you. But the lil'glory will be less.”
“Ma'gon big. With skin of snake but hard as stone. Mo'Wings, big wings. No fire. Ma'gon and lil'gon both goo'gon, not mon'gon. Mon'gon blow fire, you call dra'gon. goo'gon hunt mon'gon are mo'lil smaller then mon'gon. Goo'hojo to see ma'gon. Goo'mo'wyrd to kill ma'gon, much danger, many mo'morr.”

reposting the other prophesies you've been exposed to:

The original prophesy from the Sheff ancestor ghosts: “The forest that walks shall be bound to the giant, and the giant to the forest. Dark blood will strike, but pure sanguine repel and prevail. Give much thought to steel and fire, for it's time is coming. As old steel is laid to rest, new steel will be wrought, and thirstily quenched. Old signs will return. "
From the shamans in the west:
“The walking sapling must ride the beast, he will need the strength of both brothers of blood, brothers of raising, and those who's only kin is blood itself. Tame the beast, and the fruit shall flourish, fight it, and the victory will wither.”

Sorry got distracted. Keep going tonight, ok.

    Lets finally get this going.

Du'Zul'Un advises that you can enter be the stairs by either the stairs or the hole, but the hole will take some getting to, and is infested by rockworms. "Not that rockworms should worry you much, not with the shadow-claws around, no. . . "
    >> Anonymous 03/28/10(Sun)06:48 No.8833168
Let's take the path of least resistance then and go with the stairs.
    >> Anonymous 03/28/10(Sun)06:48 No.8833170
Stairs seems like a much better tactical option - we can go down, strongest first, and fight on them if need be. Down the hole might land us smack bang in the middle of a mess we can't deal with.
    >> Quest Lord !!7ls3wo7NoED 03/28/10(Sun)06:49 No.8833179
Ok. You walk down the stairs, into the darkness. Do you light a torch?

9/10. Ok, mostly safe. Redeem'd, avoided total party wipe or any named deaths.

The roof caves in as you walk into the cavern, in an act of unlucky timing or potentially a malicious trap. However your party mostly escapes harm, a few small cuts from rock shards not withstanding.

Nice work. . . You're poisoning the rolls today.

You walk into the chamber, the torches illuminating a hole in the centre of the room. Something seems wrong about the centre of the room, around the hole. You approach to see what it is, but as you walk up the floor collapses beneath you. However the roof above you stays where it is mostly, and you find yourself in a hallway, wihtt he rest of your party around you. Doobs has twisted an ankle, and you've hurt your off wrist, but everyone is mostly ok. No serious injuries.

You see a few of the worms, they range between earthworm sized and the size of maggots. The earthworm sized ones are on the floor, eating large holes though the stone, the maggots are on the walls and you suspect in the roof. The roof here is low, you're in a passageway, with one end caved in, and the other leading outwards. >>8832874 Is the map of *this* floor.

The roof is low enough that shorty could reach up and touch the roof, but not so low as that anyone else could do this. Pic related.

Aegon could bind the leg with a splint if you could find anything for that. It'd still slow you down but not by as much (lose ties as opposed to a flat -1 mod, and only -1 on fighting). As for the wrist, you can't do much about that.

    No and no.

Aegon's from up north, wonders around the wilderness by himself form town to town/city to city. He spent some time with the norsemen, and is downright handy with a blade.

Bards/etc. aren't squishy in this setting. A court bard might be, but Aegon makes his own way around the world, and he's seen more of it then most his age, let alone people much older then him. He's hardly squishy.

In combat ability he'd be behind Doobs and close to you. Shorty is the least skilled by far, but is HUEG, and Clint can take care of himself. You left all the squishy characters at home.

    Dingdingding! We have a winner!

Aegon is the son of a Norse Cheif-Daughter and a Southern trader. The trader was infamous for his willingness to adapt to the local culture he traded with. He settled down with his wife in a Norse village, until the village was burnt to the ground by raiders from a rival village. Aegon was learning to become a shaman, but was still learning the lore of his tribe. He gathered his things and went south to find his fortune. At a northern bar he sung for his supper, for some years, until he was picked up by a wondering bard. Some years later he left to persue his own life, touring the Norse villages' learning the songs of his people. He found you on his way south to meet the people of his father.

The normal +1 to attitude with the person.

The courage ring is a use or not, you can't say IF x. you did well, so I'll let you save it, this time. And bards here don't do much singing in the fight, they're often more busy fighting. Aegons singing while fighting is more a norse thing, they sing stories of their heroes to bring the attention of their heroes and try to channel their greatness. And as a way of saying "I'm still able to sing, I'm still going strong, intimidation." That said, AEgon gives a bonus to all who fight with him in general anyway, becuase of this. Like Cohen's Showing off balls of iron tactics do.

You hear a soft paf-paf, only because you've been listening for it, and AEgon yells out NOW! As you turn, you see doobs drawing his sword and charging down the wall, using the wall to protect his flank as he slashes one of the dark heared beasts. Stark turns and follows you down the other wall, biting the entire side out of one as you slice off its outstretched arm.Shorty and clint deal with a flanking attack, Shorty ripping one in two with his bare hands. They retreat and you inspect the corpses. Lean and wiry, their black skin is covered in fine black hair. Their claws extend out from their hands, and they have no fingers to speak of, just these long curved claws of what seems to be ivory. Their heads are sleek, with two rows of serrated fangs that fold back. They are almost entirelydappled black and grey, their teeth and claws are the exception to this, being a creamy colour - however the claws are stained to be much darker.

    Friendly casualties: None
Injuries: some scratches, nothing major. Clint is sporting a new gash down his face, largely superficial, but binding it now will block his vision, so he says he'll deal with it.
    You and Stark: 1
Shorty: 1, and one badly wounded that escaped
    Clint: 1
    Aegon: 1

Aegon thinks the bulk of them escaped, not wanting to stick around after a half dozen of their comrades were butchered is seconds.

Done. Thanking Byron that you grabbed Zeek's salves you make sure all the wounds are treated as best you can, saw off the ivory claws, and continue onwards. You see a split in the tunnel, one path to your left, another to your right. Which do you take?

It's actually pretty great. . . relatively. It's better then anything you can buy normally without stupid amounts of cash. And at this time of night I have most of our stupidly high bandwidth to myself. If BitTorrent wasn't capped I could to so much piracy. We're in a tunnel, heading out about to collapse it on some NightStalkers. (tm)
    About half a dozen
Ok, you head up to the hole, and help yourselves out, using shorty as a boost. You then throw him a rope or 3, and tie it to some more solid stone outside. The floor shatters as the rope takes his weight, until it reaches a point where the stone can take the weight. Helping him out, carefully, you manage to lave without too much hassle. You then head up to the top, and clint locates where he thinks the roof of the main hall is. Rolla d15 for tracking check (wanting low).

    Yeah, already got that here.

You find the area with precious little digging, and the roof seems mostly safe. However after a few moments, one of the Virmen finds a patch where some rockworms have built a small nest. A little rough work later you've opened a small hole in the roof, but not enough to cause a cave it. Search for more weak patches? Or try and enlargen this one?

    You're lacking alchemy stuff.

By rocks you mean small boulders. If I wsn't so lazy I'd google Andre the Giant throwing rocks at the Man in Black.

The whole roof won't collapse, at most it looks like you'll be able to make several middlish sized cave ins near the middle of the room and make some smaller light holes around the edges. There will be huge gaps in the middle of the roof around here, but it won't be anything massive.
    >> Quest Lord !!7ls3wo7NoED 03/28/10(Sun)13:03 No.8837027
By not massive I do mean the whole roof won't fall in. THe floor will be covered in chunks of rubble, but the stone is oddly all of one piece. Thusly the cave ins will be limited.

Andre starts lobbing rocks first at the smaller holes to the sides, but then he starts lobbing boulders at the middle. >> Anonymous 03/28/10(Sun)14:23 No.8838129
The problem is not the length, but the fact, that your schedule is pretty random and prone to rather long hiatuses, as such ADVENTURE! segments while one of the high points of LQ tend to feel dragged out compared to the town management since even if you are gone for a month we usually get at least 3 months worth of progress in one session, while here time passes with little reward or progress.

1 and 1 were the first two. Oh shit. I was hoping you might roll this one. The cave walk itself is uneventful, until you reach the other end, and see why none of the Nightstalkers ran this way. You exit the tunnel into a a sheer cliffside, the mornign light glaring in your eyes. On the cliffiside, climbing up towards you you see. . .no. . .it can't be. You see a dragon. It appears to be 15 foot long, from head to tail, you can't see how high, seeing as it is pressed close to the clifside as it scales the cliff. It's thin, like a snake, but there's no denying the power in those wings or the strength in those claws. And there's a gleam in its eyes as it sees you, and starts snaking it's way upwards towards you.

You think: "Shit. Where is Cohen when I need the serious monsterkilling done." You say, "FUCK!" in a moment of less then lordly language.

Retreating into the caves sounds like a sound move, so you back off and follow the Virmen into the caves. It is clear that the fastest amongst you are the virmen, then clint. You hear a roar and lok back over your shoulder as the dragon (a Green and gold pattern on it's scales for any who care) enters tunnel. It's small enough that it can fit in here, but it's cramped and can't raise on it's hind legs. In the great hall it will have plenty of room and could even fly. The tunnels behind there would be a tight fit, but it could fit.

It's not trapped here. It could turn, leaving itself vulnerable, or just back out. It s forlegs are long enough and placed so that in this cave at least they are a danger, and that is to say notihing of it's jaws. This dragon has rows of snakelike teeth, hinged into its jaw, so that when it roars and hisses they display prominently. They drip with some unknown substance.

Not particularly. It just happens to be the colouration for this species of dragon in my setting. I wanted to show off how fleshed out it is is all.

Why should there be. I told you that your manhunters couldn't shoot down, as they were dead, you left it at that.

You throw rubble at the monster, and try and drive it back as best you can.

You can't think of how to collapse the cave here on the dragon, it seems sturdy enough, and there's no sign of rockworm. What's more, it's a cave, not a built tunnel, there is roots showing though the roof in some places, it's not all stone.

Hidden roll, and what's more it's connected to an unfeasable idea. I'd have used it if I could see it.

You send clint to fetch the rest at surfaceside, the remainders of you stick around to hold the dragon back. You beat a slow retreat as it moves forward, keeping to projectile weapons.

The dragon Arches up a little and hisses, spraying clear liquid all over the cave. The brunt of it hits shorty in the face, and he stumbles back hands at his face. He yells in pain, and backs off against the wall.

You drop your pack ot the ground and grab for the claws, carefully avoiding the points. You throw them, the first one missing by a good distance. You throw a few more as you slowly back off, your aim improving, but you're unable to hit any weak points yet.

    That's better.

Doobs finds an opening, and sliding under its outsteched claw he swings at the inside of its cheek, splitting it open, and then diving back, as you cover him form any counterlungers. However the dragon just screams and hisses. It's unused to this kind of fighting, and doesn't like it. However it's damned if it will back off now.

It snaps and bites at you, but fear of the painful fangs in your hands keep it back.

You don't have a ring of romance, just one of inspiration/courage and one of luck. Both used.

You throw anohter puch at the angry beast, this time aiming for its one good eye. You miss completely, the powder bursts over its back, and it seems not to notice this.

It's bad eye however continues to bubble and burn, and you thank Byron that you decided alchemy was the way to a girls heart.

    Will happen.

    Consecutive crits. MAXIMUM WIN ENGAGED.

The dragon lunges at you, and you nod to Doobs, who knows just what to do. He runs in, slashing at it's flank and as it turns to snap at him you leap forth, stark at your side. Stark bites at its claw, sinking his teeth into the softer smoother scales in the palm as you land on the dragons head spearing Thorn down thourgh its good eye and deep into its brain. pushing thorn deeper and deeper until until the hilt has sunk into its soft gooey eye, you hold on for dear life as it spasms. After moments it drops to the floor, its spasms weakened and the beast vanquished. Wiping a blade off on cloth nearby you thanky Byron for the chance to finihs wooing he girl of your dreams. You tuen back to see clint, having brought Cohen and Leold down, standing shocked and in awe. Cohen breaks the silence "You said it was serious Clint, looks like our Lord Green had it all under control. The Doobs blood flows strong in you, and the rest of your blood is flowing strongly enough as well, surprisingly all on the inside."
    >> Anonymous 03/28/10(Sun)15:43 No.8839469
Correct. The prophecy involves wyverns. This dragon is just a random encounter.

Ask our bard what is valuable to take off a slain dragon.

Also, do dragons in this setting have a hoard?

    Trophys? ALL OF IT!

Cohen sugests that you either get some outlaws to help you skin it, or something, because you don't want to waste any of it.

Note: This encounter was planned as the double 1 boss for the final encounter. I was expecting to kill someone off, or at least make someone lose a leg. If you got a 5 or less for a fighting roll in this fight, you were getting permanent damage. The 6s were giving you - modifiers, bad ones, as each hero was taken out of action, temporarily. THen ALCHEMY got remembered, you rolled well, and turned it the fuck about. Finally, double crit. I just want to say cheers, this has been the most rewarding game for me yet, and also FUCK YES - LORD QUEST DIE ROLEPLAY TOO!

All of it. Scales are hard, but more importantly rare and exotic, makes for great shields to show off, and is better then a leather covering.

    24. Which is high. You started at 10, for him being your god, but though +1s from being a good bro, and generally being good to your god, and being e hero (he loves that shit) you've been working your way up. And now this.

you wast shorty's eyes and Doob's face witht eh water, and their releif is plain to see. Doobs face looks like he just has finished a particularly bad puberty, his handsome rugged look has become a touch less charasmatic, but he's grinning all the same. "A Dragon. A FUCKING DRAGON!" He slaps you on the back "Lets see who's a bumpkin country lord on a nowhere estate next tourny! A DRAGON!"
    >> Quest Lord !!7ls3wo7NoED 03/28/10(Sun)16:00 No.8839690
Sure. Someone re-archive this thread. I think we need to remember this is the day Thommas Green killed a DRAGON.

If between now and next thread anyone can get a picure of Tom Green (looks like balckadder II) having slain a dragon, or slaying one, you'll get a bonus next month.

Surely there's enough of us here to skin and carry it?

If it has a hoard, we'll take that too.

Are we ending here, or going to get the treasure we came for?

(If anything is a good sign for unlocking our sword's abilities... this was it)

    Ending for tonight/this morning. It's 6am.

No rush to get a drawfag on this, next thread is at least a week away, and most likely a couple. Just post it up in next thread, and the bonus will be there.

No, titling it like that will spoil it for people who will read it later.
We should just mention that we encountered a dragon or something and leave the rest for the reader's imagination ( seeing our awful rolls at start they'll get some bad visages as how the quest turned over)
