    also there is the fact that used lego goes super cheap whereas used models are almost always painted and therefor retain value. in some cases used 40k models are more expensive and a lego army could be customized without buying metal collector figures and such.

    You absolutely can. My buddy got into the game that way. Built 1,500 points out of Legos, including 10 tactical marines, 5 terminators, a rhino, a land raider, devastators, and scouts. Minifigs without helmets are roughly the same size as real Terminators, so about the same as tactical marines. Close enough. Plus, using measurements from real vehicles, it's easy to build Lego ones to match. His Land Raider is spot-on. It's beautiful
