    551 KB ZEONQUEST Pt33 I apologised on 4chan !!O1JS15Z6lxy 01/31/10(Sun)12:15 No.7856806

You are David Lister, Mobile Suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon, and leader of the Ace Military group: The Nachtmaren Unit.

Together with your band of merry men (and women, and women who dress like men) you've been showing the federation what for since March.

You are currently in the run up to an operation on Federation HQ: Jaburo, and are in the Pezun Asteroid base, testing out new experimental pieces of kit for the Zeonic military.

Your team won three brand new MS-09 Dom mobile suits in a high stakes Zero-G Basketball game against the Black Tristars. With your team's Long Range support specialist, Jolyne Brande's chastity on the line, your team managed to pull through and come out victorious.

Later on that afternoon, you got a visit from a representative of the Flanagan Institute who helpfully explained how Newtypes work.

That was yesterday, this is today.

Zolomon Ringo has been asked by Zeonic to test out a ground unit for them in "The Washer".

Calvin Hobart has been asked to test out the Improved Recon Zaku: E3 'Flipper'.

At some point, Dr Rannistel said he wanted you to test out something that the Flannigan Institute had cooked up, but he hasn't forwarded the details yet.

You also have two other messages from Zeonic, and 2 more from Zimmad, which you haven't opened yet. No messages in your inbox about the Mixed unit doctrine thesis you've been sending to various aces yet.

Call Ookawa and ask him if he can take a look at the doms, assess what kinds of tweaks/retools can be done, and then start trying out multiple of his ideas at once, and comparing the resulting change in performance between the three suits.

The hope is to get the suits as tightly calibrated to our needs as possible.

Also, if Ookawa can find some way to safely install leg rocket launchers on one of the Doms at some point, that would be perfect. Just slap a heat sink in between the leg and launcher, to keep potential heat buildup from the leg thrusters from detonating a warhead.

    >Out of curiosity, what is Zol testing right now anyway? The Efreet?

Checking Zolomon's assignment you see that he's slated to test out a refit package for the MS-07B Gouf.

You check your mail, and discover that Zeonic are looking for another test pilot to square off against Zolomon's new unit. Something called an MS-08TX.

The second letter is them asking for another space combat test, with an old F-type refitted with some kind of Magnetic reduced friction coating.

The letters from Zimmad are asking you to test out a theoretical medium range support refit for the Dom (you have to applaud the speed at which they're coming up with these things.) and some kind of High Speed Mobile suit for space use.

Hovis Goddard has been ordered off active duty for the next two days however.

    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)12:42 No.7857072
doms are stilol a new thing yeah? So there won't be as much data on how to tweak a suit to the needs of an individual pilot yet, at least not like there is with the Zaku.

If Ookawa can start figuring that out right away (and team members helping him test calibrations during downtime), not just to improve our performance when we ship out, but also so we might be able to send mroe specialized data on how to use doms to the Black Tristars.

In theory, they have heard of our combined arms papers, they now know we tested the dom prototype, and we are a known ace. Who knows, we might be able to convince hem to stop using that Jet slipstream attack when presented with possible newtype pilots

Okay. I say we take the Efreet. We won't get many opportunities to face off against Zol in a mock battle. Plus, Efreet vs. Gouf Custom sounds badass.

Jo can obviously handle testing the Dom Cannon, so that leaves Ruubens with either the Act Zaku or this mystery High Mobility unit.

How about when we start doing tests today, we send out some requests to get technical data on the doms for out tech. Give the reason of (easier to maintain in field with more data, easier to get better performance, etc.)

As for machines, is Ruubens working on a test yet? If not, have her test the newly jointed F type, D. Listers tests mid range Dom first (good chance to ask for papers on doms), Jolyne in the suit squaring off against Zolomon, just because it's a good way to test if hostilities are gone. Also, encourage Jolyne to let out any remaining frustration at Zolomon in the test, but to have everthing settled by the end. Get a passionate competitive test, and get team mates working together better.

The efreet custom is ground only, outfitted with hoverthrusters similiar to the ground dom, it has two large heat sabers in the hand, a Twin tube grenade launcher on each wrist, and a 6 tube missile launcher on each leg. However the real thing going for it (which may or may not be included) is the EXAM system, which basically turns you into a newtype.

In some of it's portrayals, newtypes can't operate an EXAM equipped mobile suit, possibly because the the system will react violently.

Technically it's powered by the soul of a newtype and would give you enhanced awareness and limited precognition. It's also possible it can take over the suit and send it on a rampage, but that isn't the INTENDED effect, unlike ALICE, which is basically an AI system to take over piloting when the suit is in danger.

The EXAM system incorporates the brain patterns of a dissected Newtype to supplement the onboard computer macros of a Mobile Suit, as a sort of proto-AI.

It also makes the suit prone to rampaging like a berserker, since most people don't like being tortuously installed into a war machine.

    >D. Lister: Efreet
    >Jolyne: mid-range Dom
    >Ruuben: Act Zaku

You regret to inform the Zimmad team that you wont be able to supply them a test pilot for their Space Type MS, but you can supply Jolyne to test out their Dom Refit.
They reply that this is fine, and they'll find a pilot for the Zudah from elsewhere.

Ruubens get's assigned to the Magnetic Coating test type, which AS I MENTIONED is a simple F type Zaku II with magnetised joints.
You meanwhile mount up in the MS-08 Efreet.

The Efreet is a heavy combat machine that straddles the line between Mobile Suit and Heavy Mobile Suit, if features heavier armour than any Mobile Suit you've used aside from the Dom, and comes with multiple slots for Beam Sabers (Gouf type) as well as the capacity to use any weapon the Zaku series can.
Also, the joints and musclature have been improved, like the R-3 you were testing yesterday it can easily handle a 90mm, possibly even a 120mm MG in each hand. It also has a pretty hefty weight to throw around in close combat.
    >> Zeta Zaku 01/31/10(Sun)13:12 No.7857369
Exactly. It's incredibly unethical and quite dangerous to both the pilot and whoever happens to be around the suit at the time. Also, the Newtype will probably start trying to plead for a mercy killing from its pilot, something we probably don't want on our conscience in the middle of battle.

Zolomon's unit conversely is the B-3 commanders package for the Gouf. It's been heavily overhauled, and you can't help but feel that a lot of the modifications tie in with what Zolomon was asking for out of the Gouf.

You guess that the guys upstairs have been listening.

Compared to you, the B-3 is lighter in armour, but faster and more agile as a result, whilst the Efreet has an excellent mid-range combat capacity, the B-3 is close combat monster, featuring a Gatling shield which mounts 75mm Gatling gun, underwhich lie the triple barrelled 35mm that Zolomon has been using for months. The Heat Rod has been made longer, thinner and with a grapnel at the end that can EASILY support the B-3's weight.

    Efreet vs Gouf Custom

You opt to twin weild a pair of 90mm guns, and pack some Panzerfausts and plenty of reloads as well. Luckily the washer is set up for urban combat so you get some cover. To be honest though, you still don't really have the distance you'd like against Zolomon.
The Distance in question being from several miles away.
It's still a highly impressive and brutal fight however, with Zolomon only coming out 8 round to your 6.
In effect both design teams continue to insist that their design is superior and in the end, they decide to do a limited production run of the Efreet, and put out refit packages for the Gouf B's that are already in the field instead of building them outright.

Jolyne testing out the Cannon Dom
No problems reported, and if anything, she claims that the heavy frame of the Dom could probably take the recoil of a second backpack mounted cannon. Also, the shoot and scoot possiblities raised by it are intriguing.

A clear improvement in the suits reaction times are noted, however the old F-type can't really make the best of this improvement, and the coating method is expensive. The technology is marked as a success, and is shuttled into the MS-11 project.

No problems reported, and the sensor detail and fidelity is superb, however the design seems flimsy and he voices concerns about it's endurance in operations on Earth.

Treating the suits less as people to 'kill' and more as mobile weapon plaforms to be crippled. Shots to sensors, joints, weapons, anything to circumvent the armor protecting pretty much everything else.

Heat axes to the back of knees in melee to instantly drop a suit by disrupting footing.

Charging behind rocket fire as a form of cover (with Dom speeds works very well)
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)14:32 No.7858176
Working in small units, wherein each unit watches the back of others. I say this even though it is normal tactical doctrine because it never seemed to be used on either side with MS except in isolated incidents. So really, encourage people to work with a buddy that watches their less armored back while they do the same would hopefully boost troop effectiveness, and by having someone cover you, the average soldier has a better chance of surviving to learn from his or her mistakes and become a more competent pilot.

Also could have a target prioritization scale so that there is a general rule of thumb for what should or should not be attacked in absence of orders, thereby increasing troop initiative when under M. Particle effect.
    >> An0nymous 01/31/10(Sun)14:33 No.7858178

Most of it consisted with the suits each performing to their strengths while other suits covered for their deficiencies.

When it was proposed, all I remember seeing was several of the same suits used in large formations without any kind of variety.

A combined arms strategy enables troops, tanks, and Mobile suits to support one another.

Mobile suits and later mobile armors act as an iron fist, with tanks and troops providing support.

Mobile suits and armors would strike fast and hard, causing wholesale destruction, mobile armors providing fire support or close combat as is their specialty at either.

MS would nominally advance under support fire from long range MA such as the Hildorf or long range MS akin to our GUN DOM.

Troops and tanks would move in a supporting role, either ranging ahead to spot for infantry ambushes that MS and tanks have a hard time seeing, or to provide short to midrange fire support and/or spotting services.

You more closely inspect the nature of the Mock Battle that Dozle is proposing. Essentially he will be using a standard Zeonic doctrine force of One Chivvay Heavy Cruiser, supported by two squads of Mobile Suits (F2 type Zaku's) and a support unit of 15 Gattle Fighters.

He allows you to pick and choose a similar battleforce that makes use of your combined arms doctrine.
You have several Musai pattern cruisers available, and of course your squad. Although Hovis is still out of action for today.
You ask him if he thinks he can swing it past the Docs after a day of bed-rest. He say's he'll see what he can do.

Keep in mind that Dozle will be less likely to take your proposals seriously if you deliberately take a force that vastly outguns him. You can also draw upon almost any of the test MS you have been using this week, but again, remember that if you pick MS that vastly outgun his own, then it will effect his opionion of you and your essay.

I don't think we should take more then one Musai, since that would bring us over the "massively overgunned" threshold. It ought to be enough for long-rage support anyway, that's what they're made for.

I'd like our mobile force to be built around the Bigro Hovis tested. It's an excellent anti-ship unit and would cover the shortcomings a Musai would have against a Chivvay nicely. MS compliment should be light and fast to keep up with it. I'd like the R-types to be the spearhead, but I'm afraid how that might look on the evaluation, relying on the high-performance prototypes. Either way, we shouldn't have more then four or so.

Supplant the rest with Gattles, if the Jiccos are only good for guided missiles then.

    >The Chivvay class is a ship developed by the Zeon to help protect convoys and perform miscellaneous tasks. It was often used to serve as a flagship in a battle group. It is equipped with two triple barreled beam turrets, multiple twin barreled anti-air batteries and several missile launchers, but originally was not designed to carry mobile suits. However, its size was sufficient that its cargo bays could be, and usually were, easily converted to mobile suit hangars. A handful of these vessels were remade into Tivvay class heavy cruisers, and some of the Chivvay class vessels were refitted for use by Zeon/Neo Zeon space attack commanders. The class proved itself useful, but in the end the Zeon drive for ships with mobile suit capacity resulted in the discontinuation of the class.

    >The Musai class light cruiser was the first warship designed to carry mobile suits. Char Aznable commanded a modified Musai class cruiser with a helmet-shaped command bridge, the Falmel. The original Musai light cruisers carried five Zaku I or Zaku II mobile suits and supported them with a battery of three mega particle cannon turrets. However, they lacked any type of anti-aircraft/anti-mobile suit defense systems, which haunt Zeon forces in the latter half of the One Year War, when the Federal Forces deployed their own mobile suits. Towards the end of the One Year War, the Zeon engineers remodeled the Musai class to carry three of the bulkier Rick Dom moblie suits. Late production types could carry four Rick Doms and featured anti-air and anti-mobile suit machine gun turret defenses. However, due to operational setbacks, few of these where produced.

I think we're already outgunned mate.

The Musai is also built to work as the cornerstone of a MS battlegroup, though, and is capable of directing all its firepower into its forward arc. The Chivvay is not, since half of its main cannons face sternwards.

Throughout the OYW, mobile suits were capable of closing range fast enough to easily destroy enemy ships that were without mobile suit escort. So if we were to take a cruiser, we would have to split our forces to defend it from close range attack due to the musai having almost no point defense capability. I am not sure that it would be worth cutting our attack capabilities for inaccurate long range support whose only use is destroying other cruisers when the mobile suit is so much better in that role.
    >> Arty 01/31/10(Sun)15:10 No.7858669

    >Perhaps we should get Strauss' opinion on this? He definitely has a better head for tactics than we do...

Checking with Strauss, he gives the opinion that Dozle has probably gone for standard textbook MS loadout. 1 squad of 3 Zaku's configured for Anti-Ship, the other for General Multipurpose. The fighters will be there to cover the Chivvay, and to move forwards and support the MS.

So, you have 5 MS pilots left, a single squad is 3 suits, and single wing of Gattle fighters is 5.

So, what sort of squad do you want?

    >And think about the fact that your arms proposal might not be best served by your or any other particularly talented ace carrying the day, as this is supposed to dictate general tactics.... unless you can somehow propose an ace contingent of some sort be included in a standard force, or something.

There's not really much you can do about that. Besides, you have a nagging suspicion that Dozle will be fielding a couple of aces in his squads as well.

    Nerf axes.

Whatever we do, we need our forces varied. Combined forces means varied forces working in tandem. We need to prove that it's superior to the standard Zeon forces.

I know dick about Gundam, so whatever.

Well, we definitely want to bring along the Flipper for spotting purposes.

For our Zakus, I'd go with standard F2s, as matching our MS contingent to theirs would help in proving the point about doctrine. Preferably four of them; one kitted out for close-combat, two for midrange, one for long-range/command. They operate as a single squad.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)15:26 No.7858856
The point is proving our combined arms theories, so we should go for, well, combined arms.

    1 Musai
    5 Gattles
    1 MA
    3 Suits, all differently configured:
-Hobbes in a Recon Suit (his R2 if we took it up into orbit? if not the Flipper he was testing)
-Us in a General Purpose F2
-Zolomon in a F2 loaded for close assaults
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)15:27 No.7858862
if i were there i would make a squad of four, the flipper for recon, the magnetic zaku for close range and two already tested zaku2 for long range, its space so range is a huge factor
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)15:28 No.7858887

Up us to ten Gattles, just to be safe. A few extra as a distraction couldn't hurt.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 01/31/10(Sun)15:33 No.7858953
    Our setup:

Hobbes in the Flipper, specifically tied to Hovis in the Bigro. Hobbes spots, Hovis shoots.

Jolyne in a Zaku Cannon equivalent. If necessary, given the RP's issues, put her in a Dom Cannon and stick a governor on it to give it about the same performance specs as the standard Zaku Cannon.

Zol in the F2 kitted out for close combat. Shield, heat hawks, 'nades. 90mm MG.

Ruubens and either us or Strauss in F2s kitted for midrange: Heat Hawk, 90mm MG, Panzerfaust, ample reloads.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)15:34 No.7858962
I'd add a couple more Gattles. One for each MS, two watching after the MA, and a couple more (four or so) babysitting the cruiser.

Okay, you take up this loadout and prepare for combat.

Aside from 3 F2's configured for AS with Bazooka's and Panzerfausts, the multirole squad consists Shin in his R1A, another F2 and what appears to be Dozle in his own custom Zaku.

"Dang. That is one BIG heat hawk? You know where I can get me one of those?" Zolomon asks.

"Oh shut up, and get ready. Remember, we engage the MS first, supported by the Musai, with the Gattles acting as interference for enemy Ship fire and keeping the MS's contained. Hovis, your job is to engage the enemy ship and keep it from pressuring us."

    >matching our MS contingent to theirs would help in proving the point about doctrine
You know what would really drive the point home? Winning the mock battle with an intentionally INFERIOR contingent of tools. It would prove the superiority of the tactics all around, mostly regardless of the original technology. Not sure how we'd wing it, but it's a thought.

They use F2s, we use original Zaku IIs.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)15:35 No.7858983
It sounds about right. The Musai is the unit the Flipper will normally spot for, CQC Zaku and General Combat Zaku can finish the MS that the Gattles distract, all whilst keeping an eye on the range and firing arcs of the battleship. Once the MS are destroyed (and our mothership is safe), we join the MA and Gattles on the attack on the enemy cruiser.

Reminds me of that time in Mexico? where we had to defend the city until reinforcements would arrive.
We teamed up with infantry there, I think, to close of access ways we couldn't guard with suits. And we had artillery prepped to strike on our signals. And a cluster of AA.

As the battle begins, Calvin streaks ahead, relaying combat data back to you.

"It's like we thought, I'm seeing two squads of 6 mobile suits moving forwards unsupported. The Gattles are sticking close to Chivvay. I don't think it's got a bead on our cruiser yet. I'm relaying data back to the Musai so it can get the first shot's off."

"Roger that, Hovis, hang back until we've boxed in the Mobile Suits then surge ahead. Think you can handle that many Gattles as well as the ship, or do you want to take some fighters with you."

"I'll be fine. Keep the Gattles with you."

A minute passes as the two of you move forwards, supported by the fighters. Shortly you see the incoming Mobile Suits and prepare an ambush for them as they move through the debris zone.

The Gattles go in first and engage the enemy, they come off badly in the opening exchange, but they distract the enemy enough for you both to spring some excellent high speed ambushs. Between the two of you, you manage to take out the AS squad.

You see Hovis surge overhead at full speed, the simulated bright flashes of the Musai's particle cannons flaring above him, obscuring his prescence for a brief moment, and then the Bigro is gone.

    Pretty much.

One of the big differences between UC Gundam and, well, most of the other Gundam series is just how freaking powerful MA are. The bigger size impairs their maneuverability a bit, but it also means they've got more and more powerful weapons, more armor, and more thrust than you can possibly put on an MS-sized frame.

After taking out the AS squad, you now have to deal with the elite Multi-purpose squad. Luckily, Calvin has taken a good recon position, and is feeding sporadic combat information to you. Your down to a couple of depleted Dopp wings as Dozle and Shin slice and blast their way through them, but you've got a pretty good idea of their general position.
You manage to spring up on his squad and take out the F2 wingman, but Shin reacts pretty fast and sends a burst of 120mm fire your way and you attempt to dodge out the way, you take some hit's on your arm and your computer shut's it down, still holding your 90mm.
You pull out your hawk with the other hand and attempt to move in on him, but he keeps darting out of the way and then forcing you into cover with counter-fire.

You don't see how Zolomon is getting on with Dozle, you've both been seperated.

"...vis got the cruiser, and....the fighters... way back" comes Calvin's broken report.
You attempt to flank Shin again only to have him waiting for you. His 120mm takes out your left leg and you use your backpack thrusters to move up out of the debris field, tossing your hawk and pulling out your zook. You fire the weapon downwards at Shin you moves back into the debris field to avoid your fire. You keep him supressed for four well placed shots until you realise that you're out of ammo.

You set course back to the Musai, you're each allowed one repair and reload from the Musai, which takes 5 minutes.
Behind you, you see Hovis move up with his Bigro to cover the debris field you occaisionally see him shoot into the field, presumably on data supplied by Calvin.

After the match, Dozle is magnanimous in defeat, if not highly impressed. Your use of the Gattles to pin the enemy and then take them out with Mobile suit assets impressed him, as did the MA and Ship assets working in tandem in an anti AS role.

Looking at the combat footage, it seems that the battle between Dozle and Zolomon quickly degenerated into an epic close combat affair, with both sides "losing" legs and arms in quick measure. Although in the end it looks like Zolomon was able to momentarily take the blow of Dozles heavy Heat Hawk allowing him to hold the suit close and spray Dozle's suit with vulcan fire at point blank until he was was out of ammo.

Shin Matsunaga survived largely unharmed, but was still supressed by you and Hovis enough to prevent him from reuniting with Dozle.

You are also quick to point out the effectiveness of a recon unit, even one that can only maintain a spotty laser communications link in combat.

Dozle seems highly impressed with the effectiveness of your mixed unit tactical doctrine, and the combat data recordings will probably be making their way up the chain of command shortly.

Yeah, since it kinda degenerated into Ace v Ace Combat, so maybe it wasn't the end-all demonstration we were hoping for, but still.

Well, looks like we might want to consider some way of improving the Gattle. If we've captured any Feddie Saberfish to reverse-engineer, maybe we could use those as a model on which to build a better fighter.

Otherwise, I'd call this a resounding success.

One thing we must do; make certain that Dozle doesn't attribute the victory to the Bygro. It played a part, but it wasn't a wonderweapon that turned the tide.

Precisely. On the other hand, if we haven't learned any lessons about it from the past eight months of war, and haven't gotten any examples of Feddie tech to use for ourselves, then somebody at Fighter R&D needs to be put up against a wall and shot.

Thinking about it, it's a lot like the history of every real advance in military tech; once the initial shock value and tech superiority wear off, proper combined arms tactics will win the day every time against anything other than amazing luck or insurmountable numerical superiority. And even against those two, they'll still last longer and bleed the enemy more.

A proper MS carrier would be nice, though.

Preferably not an abomination like the Dolos.

Figure that a good carrier would be able to hold eight MS (two four-man squads) and an MA-Recon MS team, plus a complement of fighters and fighter-bombers (let's say 20 of those). The plane hangar and catapults would be separate from the MS hangar and catapults, to allow the carrier to launch its complement faster; let's say it has two plane and four MS catapults, assuming that MS catapults take longer to reset.

No heavy weapons mounted on the carrier itself, just a metric fuckton of point-defense and armor. Blowing things up with the guns is what purpose-built cruisers and battleships are for.

Thinking about it some more, maybe increase the size just a bit. 12 MS capacity, so that you can rotate suits in and out of battle as they get damaged or simply to give pilots a chance to rest. Similarly increase the plane hangar a bit, to give the aerospaceplane pilots the same opportunity.

Include a decent machine shop/repair bay aboard, of course.

Also include a spray of commo drones that can be launched to provide laser comms between the ship and its MS/MA/aerospaceplane contingent.

    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 01/31/10(Sun)17:11 No.7860505
Another good reason to get a new ship design out, one that can actually hold our new-model MS.

And I suppose that we might want to consider the Xamel as a goal to work towards for the artillery support role; it has to be at least a bit cheaper than an MA, can do most of the same role, and would be a bit easier to fit into an MS carrier than a full MA would.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)17:12 No.7860516

Maybe something like the Alexandria class? That seemed to be a decent carrier. Maybe they could remove some of the beam turrets and expand the carrying capacity, so as to make it more of a purpose-built carrier than a cruiser/carrier hybrid.

After the war, scientists figured out how to augment regular humans into artificial newtypes, since it was never discovered when and how newtypes manifest.

However the process invariably resulted in severe emotional instability at the least, test subjects more often ending up with disabilities like varying degrees of psychosis and hysteria. The Titan's Murasame Institute specialized in this, as did certain branches of Neo-Zeon.

And now that I think about it, why don't we mention the combination of Murasame's paper and the 120% Minovsky density before the Loki blew to the Flanagan guys? If they can find out who was close enough to the blast to be in the supersaturated Minovsky environment, they have somewhere to look for Newtypes.

Maybe a stretch goal. We've been able to get some designs out faster so far, and they did have an Alexandria around 0083-0084. Maybe we can develop some kind of proto-Alexandria?

If not, the modified Zanzibar plan sounds good and works with what we have to save on resources wasted on developing new designs when we can modify something we already have.

Combat takes place in another one Pezun's many debris fields.

You set up on opposite sides of the fields and as the green light goes up and the siren blares you bark out orders to the rest of your team.

"Stay in the debris field, try to restrict visual contacts. Ruubens, you and me will try to get her attention. Zolomon whilst we destract her, you attack her at close range, that suit doesn't look like his any real close combat ability, use that to your advantage."

The three of you dart forwards trying to close the gap, after less than 30 seconds you see the glint of moving metal and you give the order to dodge. You all avoid the first shot, but the attacks from the second arm take out Zolomon in a single blow.

"Damn boss that things got beam weapons!" Ruubens howls as she dodges a blast before sending the arms scurrying away with return fire.

"Just keep pushing forwards and dodging! If you see the arm, try to take it out with your guns!"

It looks like the Beam arms only have enough charge to fire twice in quick succession. You are currently heading forwards towards the MS-06Z.

You both dodge another pair of twin blasts that are tring to bracket you.

"Shit! I don't think I can...damn!" Ruubens says as she fires back at the Psychommu bits, only to take the second beam salvo dead on.

I doubt it. The Zanzibar didn't even have catapults until the 0083 refit, and those were puny little outriggers bolted on the sides. If anything, we need to sacrifice carrying capacity to add stuff, since its ventral bay does have the space to hold and service something the size of a Bigro.

You flick off the limiters on your mobile suit, it surges forwards, hard to control but highly responsive and fast.
You're putting real pressure on the arm now, and are able to quicker and more easily dodge it's sporadic return fire. Your guns craze the area around it, but it manages to jink out of the way all of the time, whilst paint splashes around it.

Like a power cord from a vacuum cleaner rewinding the arm spools back into the Psychommu Zaku and then starts blasting at you on full auto.
Damn, it seems like when connected it has a better energy flow for it's beam weapons. You dart through the debris field, her shots always a fraction behind you, despite being behind debris for half of the time.
She nimbly dodges your own return fire and persues you as you attempt to find a better firing postion.

You dodge another blast and the arm shuts down momentarily, simulated overheat most likely. You press your advantage and dash forwards, firing from a freshly reloaded clip. She dodge and her arm comes back on, you meanwhile start counting her blasts.
In the close quarters, your right arm goes down, but you manage to keep your gun arm and your legs, you tag on leg of hers and the duel continues in close range.

In between keeping yourself moving and firing back, for a second you almost lose count of the number of shots, and for a second you see yourself in a psychadelic landscape, your opponent nothing but a white human sillouette a flowing green aura flowing behind her, and then you're back in your suit, counting shots.

You pull in close, one last bullet left in your rifle, Nell brings her arm over directly on your head, and is probably suprised when her arm refuses to fire due to overheating.

Given that the Feddies only have four or five Pegasus-class ships by the end of the war (at most), having our own brace of true dedicated carriers would be useful.

So, for what we want in our Zanzibar-refit or Zanzibar-successor carrier design:

Minovsky Craft system (can be salvaged from Apsalus project, refined and put into production).

Proper MS capacity. Two hangars, two catapults, eight MS; the MS would be two three-man squads of either Doms or Gelgoogs, a Zaku Flipper (redesigned to improve survivability) and a Xamel.

Aerospacecraft capacity. 12 fighters in four 3-plane squads, 8 fighter-bombers in two 4-plane wings. One hangar, two catapults.

Point defense, and lots of it. No heavy guns or missiles, just anti-plane, anti-missile and anti-MS systems.

Lasercomm drones, feeding between the ship and its complement, along with between the individual MS and planes.

That's actually really useful, because apparently that model of Musai was being produced in late 0079. Not many of them, though, because in canon the war was already going badly when they came out, and it was cheaper and easier to try to refit the original Musais in a less powerful configuration instead.

Here, though, the Late Production Musai would make a great escort for our new carrier model.

As you step along the corridor, Wolfgang Strauss meets you next on this long series of goodbyes.

    He shakes your hand.

"It's been great to see you again David."

    "You too sir."

"Enough of that David, we're both the same rank these days after all. Anyway, if we get anything interesting I'll see about sending it your way."

"Well, I'd hope you'd do that anyway..."

You both share a good laugh at that.

"Anyway, we need to meet again someday. So keep yourself alive okay?"

    "You too Strauss. You too."

You share ANOTHER manly salute and continue to to ship. As you finally step aboard you see your mobile suits being loaded up.
Inside you are greeted by a somewhat familiar Aide
"Welcome to the Outer Heaven Lieutenant Lister, it's great to see you again."

Oh shit, where did you see this guy?

"Well, I'll take you up to the captain, he want's to greet you personally."

You rack your brains trying to place this guy. Was it on the Roter Mond? Was it California? Where was it?

He takes you up to the bridge and the Captain turns around on his chair to greet you.
Oh, that's who the aide was, that crazy former stunt-driver turned pilot - For Captain Dirk Fontaine, the man in front of you right now.

"Welcome back Lieutenant David Lister. Let's go home."

    DAY 4

Shin and Dozle are watching Nachtmarens exercise against the newtype, specifically David's 1-on-1 with Nell.

    "Could you do that Shin?"

"In my R1A? Yes, the suit is capable of it. I suspect he's disabled the safe performance limiters on his suit as well, which would explain the extra speed and response. But not for this level of duration, the concentration required to control a mobile suit and dodge light-speed projectiles is immense, his level of mental endurance is incredible."

    [aftermath of the fight]

"So I guess he realised that the 6Z has a cooldown period on it's weapons after a certain number of shots?"

"Yes, Mr Matsunaga, except that number is largely random between 40 and 60 shots. There's no way he should have been able to accurately guage when the weapon would overheat."

    "So he got lucky?"

"I believe that Mr David Lister creates his own luck."

Don't for the love of god jinx it!

    OMAKE 2

This power represents a newtypes that channels or amplifies his or her power through some specialty or totem. A sniper with a lucky gun, a man who can always roll sixes, or a mountain climber who scale any surface. These are people, who whilst often mid to low level newtypes in their own right, only really shine through their designated medium.
However, in that designated specialty they're skills can exceed even that of the greatest newtype.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)18:41 No.7861674
    Fucking yes. Ha ha ha.
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)18:42 No.7861684
So, EITHER we have at least moderate sensitivity to detect this stuff (plus dreamscape), OR we have enough pressure to MAKE it overheat then, if I am understanding how Newtypes work in your setting.

    Can you confirm/deny this apologised?
    >> Anonymous 01/31/10(Sun)18:43 No.7861688
