You are Lieutenant David Lister, ace mobile suit pilot for the Republic of Zeon. You are currently a part of Garma Zabi's honour guard in New York as he meets his girlfirends parents... sorry, that should be "Meet the troops".

Of course there was a bit of a kerfuffle getting into New York as wouldn't you know it, just as Garma Zabi decides to leave California, we happen to get attacked by the heaviest air incursion in the US for three months.

Let's just say we weren't all that suprised when a familiar Zeonic spy knocked on your door and asked for your help rooting out a spy from your ranks.

The following morning you meet back up with Incognito.

The plan appears to be as such: Incognito will be travelling up along with his "specialists" in an APC. Your squad will be a three man unit, no Dom because you'll be travelling by Fat Uncle as will the APC and you'll need the extra space.

Incognito has basically ordered Zolomon with you, but you get to pick the last pilot, as well as the Mobile Suits you'll be taking and armament.

Zolomon: Custom Gouf - 90mm MG with underslung grenade launcher. 2 reloads. As many crackers and smoke grenades as possible. His 2 heat hawks.

Us: Do we still have our Type A Gouf, or was that returned after we finished with it? If not, go with one of our custom Zakus with the head vulcans, a 90mm MG with 2 reloads, a bazooka or panzerfaust, with as many reloads as possible. No grenades or heat hawks for us. If needed, we can get one of Zolomon's.

... oops, my bad. Good catch.

    >Zolomon: Custom Gouf - 90mm MG with underslung grenade launcher. 2 reloads. As many crackers and smoke grenades as possible. His 2 heat hawks.

    Crackers or Panzerfausts?

    >Us: Do we still have our Type A Gouf, or was that returned after we finished with it?

Nope, that got upgraded to the B type, and is now the Zolomon Custom type.

    >If not, go with one of our custom Zakus with the head vulcans, a 90mm MG with 2 reloads, a bazooka or panzerfaust, with as many reloads as possible. No grenades or heat hawks for us. If needed, we can get one of Zolomon's.

Since 90mm only has a 32 round clip/mag how about we up the number of reloads to 6? They take up more or less the same amount of space anyway.

    >Garma: His custom Zaku, or better, a mundane looking one to keep him from standing out. Same loadout as Zolomon. 90mm MG w/ grenade launcher, reloads, grenades.

Don't be silly, you can't have Garma! He's busy today, everyone knows that! Regardless, you have a spare F2 you can outfit for this if you want.

Due to us moving up beam development by 3 weeks, does this mean we'll be seeing the nicer Marine MS sooner? Perhaps not 3 weeks sooner, weaponry isn't the only thing going into a design and especially not without us giving any input on prototypes to hasten things along.

Might make a big difference at Jaburo.

Not to mention what a huge difference getting Gelgoogs a few weeks earlier might make...

Alright. The remaining honor guard has to keep their fucking eyes open. They need to be carrying serious firepower. Standard pistols and shit, but also briefcases with MGs or SMGs inside in case shit arises.

Just consider that whatever service unit that spy belongs to its high command might be really pissed off at us for smoking him/her out and intruding on their jurisdiction.

Can we be certain that we're not taking the flak for Mr. Incognito here? We're pretty high-profile while he is really low-profile. People might come to believe that we decided to raid another Unit because we're GARMA'S BALLS BITCHES. Depending on where that spy sits we might just be in the process of shooting ourself in the foot.

You make the call and within 15 minutes your Mobile Suits are ready. Ruubens meet's you in full pilots suit five minutes before dispatch.

"I've already informed Lord Garma about your absence, and the generals have beefed up his guard to compensate." Incognito tells you.

You leave a secret dispatch to Jolyne to keep her eyes open and to stay paranoid. That includes in regards to the replacement units. Don't try to carry Shiro, he's in the army now and he's got to fend for himself.

Have Incognito fill us in on any useful details. If we can somehow bluff our way in by claiming to be doing a prisoner transfer, we have a better chance of success than shooting our way in with just three mobile suits.

And on that note, we and whoever's in that other Zaku are going to want to ditch and conceal them outside the POW camp. If possible, see if we can get them to do a very basic "activate and walk to this point when you receive a coded signal" routine, or alternatively if we can slave them to Zol's Gouf for that purpose.

If it's Elaine, she'll be all, "Wtf, my mustache was perfect. They never suspected." If it's not . . .

Be on the lookout for traps or Feddie patrols. Cautiously move up to Gaw. Dismount to go inside if we can; we can look for evidence of where the Feddies took the crew, and we can also retrieve any personal effects belonging to us, Jolyne or Shiro that survived the crash. We can also thoroughly loot the captain's quarters for evidence of his treachery.
    >> Researcher Sam 01/09/10(Sat)15:08 No.7508026
I think everybody parachuted, and were probably captured by the feddies. After a quick sweep, we should start looking to see if they have a base hidden somewhere nearby.

Aw, hell. I just thought of something nasty.

Do we know what the Gaw would have had in the way of spare MS parts? Because if they had enough, and those parts survived the crash, we might have another Feddie Zaku to deal with.

Hmm, Well, We should still lok if anyone managed to get away, And if we get to know about any prisoners they would sadly have to wait, Dropping of transports is one thing, A rescue mission would simply take ntoo long and im pretty sure the spy mission will have to take priority, Besides, a remnant base assault is something the normal army should be able to handle.

The Gaw crashed yesterday IIRC, And building a MS takes time, Even for expert, Building a Zaku so fast is more or less impossible for untrained Feddie engineers.
    >> Researcher Sam 01/09/10(Sat)15:14 No.7508076
Well the spy mission is to find the prisoners, of which the mole is one of. Once we get him, we bring him in for questioning/tortre/finding out who the other spy is. And I doubt he would have brought anything incriminating with him on a mission like this.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 01/09/10(Sat)15:19 No.7508129
While we're waiting, here's an idea for what we should steer Zeon towards unit-wise:

    Combined Arms Production Strategy:
    Special Forces/Close Combat: MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom/MS-18E Kampfer
Multirole Line Infantry: MS-09F Dom Funf/MS-14G Gelgoog
    Fire Support: YMT-05 Hildolfr/YMS-16M Xamel

    Special Forces/Close Combat: Space-capable Gouf Variant(Probably MS-07H8 adaptation)/MS-18E Kampfer
Multirole/Line Infantry: MS-09RII Rick Dom II/MS-14Jg Gelgoog Jaeger
Fire Support: Space-capable Xamel variant/MA-06 Val Varo
    >> Anonymous 01/09/10(Sat)15:21 No.7508143

Yes, I know. But since we seem to be the go-to guy for testing prototypes, we're in a position to find out what Zeon's R&D guys are doing before they actually roll stuff out.

And on the ground stuff, the Gouf Custom and Hildolfr are already coming out. We're currently testing a prototype Dom, so we're in a position to recommend they do something closer to the Funf when they finalize Doms for mass production.

Well, the only honest-to-god MA I'm suggesting is the Val Varo, for support roles. In space, MA can be useful as an intermediate step between MS and capital ships in terms of firepower and mobility. It's just a matter of getting Zeon to focus on actually making something that can be mass-produced before the war ends.

    >Recon the area. Scan for anything.

    >Paranoia suggests boobytraps left around the wreckage.

FYI there shouldn't be ay survivors at the Gaw, hopefully they all bailed out. Furthermore, there's a SLIGHT radiation hazard chance, it's unlikely that survivors would have wanted to head towards it.

Keeping in a close formation, covering all angles and checking for traps you head towards the crash zone.

You open a contact comm with Zolomon: "Hey, Zol, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"I think so Davey, but where will we find a Sick Cat and an Officers Ball around here?"

"... a simple no would have worked. Just make sure that Ruubens doesn't make any out of character mad dashes towards the enemy."

    "Just do it."

You spot the tanks tracks on the ground a hundred yards or so before the clearing. You carefully sneak ahead, using the microcamera's on your Zaku's fingers.

You can't see anyone, also, it doesn't look like the Gaw's been stripped. You scan for tank tracks, and from appearances it appears that they just did a quick circuit around looking for survivors from the crash and then left.

You check for radiation, you get nothing back. The site's clean.

As you mentioned, there is still the risk of booby traps.

In-universe explanation, the Zaku II frame was very cheap and easy to construct, not the best, but damn cheap, so just stick more advanced bits inside it and voila, much cheaper and still effective grunt suit. The EF always emphasized cost saving and mass production in favor of expensive and experimental gambles in contrast to Zeon.

Real world explanation, Zakus and monoeye MS are easier to identify as the bad guy suits, I'm sure Zeta might have been harder to pick up if the Titan's GM Quells and GM IIs were fighting against the AEUG's own GM models and Nemos.

It's not a blast crater, it's an honest to god tunnel leading down at a 45 degree angle. A huge hole at that, you could easily drive a Gallop down this thing. Furthermore it looks recent as well, like it was made yesterday.

Hmm. That's actually an advantage for us, then; we can melee things to death, but most of the weaponry they're likely to have is going to be a bit high-caliber for use in the tunnels.

Since we don't have a Heat Hawk, better ask Zol to loan us one. He can always go with Heat Rod and one Heat Hawk instead.

If Garma doesn't have a melee weapon either, then he gets Zol's other Heat Hawk and Zol just has to make do with the Heat Rod.

Tell Incognito to head in and see what he can find out. his men and he are a hell of a lot less inconspicuous than a trio of giant robots. They've probably done this sort of things before too.

If things get messy then we can always shoot the place up and provide cover for their escape.

Also: What is the M-Particle density?

Carefully watching the guards patterns, you manage to take out a couple of guards which enables you to make a stealthy look inside the hangars.

What you find isn't good news.

It looks like a giant boring machine, supported by a big-tray land battleship chassis. You can see runways on the top of it, as well as bays for loading and offloading troops and vehicles.
Luckily it doesn't appear armed, but you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of that drill.

The vehicle takes up the entire hangar, meant for two or three 747 planes.

Looks like I was wrong about that whole "went the wrong way" thing.

How did we take out the guards quietly in our Zakus? Or did we get out and do it by hand?

we need to move fast, contact the others, tell them what we found, we need to capture this thing. there might be newtech installed that could further the might of zeon.

You say "not good news", I say "our ride out of here".

Our new plan is to capture that thing and use it to evacuate our POWs.

Does there seem to be anything more to this facility than just the hanger with the Core Drill System in it?

To elaborate, This drill would mean that escaping will be cinch, And taking Jaburo will be childs work, Futhermore, Stealing it would allow our engineers to study it, Quite possible allow us to steal Feddie tech and adavnce our own.

This thing screams Zeon Super Weapon all over. They must have a mole in our R&D department too.

Have some of Incognito's men infiltrate it. If they are confident that they can get it to work and steal it, then that's what we'll do when we make our escape. If not, then sabotage the hell out of it. We can rig it to blow and provide a distraction for when we make out move.

get the commando's to search the rest of the base and see if they can't find out where the prisoners/Kilroy are. Once we know where our targets are at, we can make our move.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 01/09/10(Sat)18:17 No.7510296
I don't know about this being Zeon-brand crazy, though. It actually makes a certain kind of sense as far as the annoying Feddie ability to keep launching major attacks far behind our lines even after we've trashed all apparent bases in the region.

As long as Garma's seeing this one first hand, he can warn the generals in other theaters to be on the lookout for more of these things.

Well obviously, we need to claim this for Zeon.

Is it active? Anyone inside manning controls? Can we even tell? We need to destroy the command center. Without a command center, it can't be driven, can't escape, but Zeon forces can claim it ourselves, fix the command center within a week, and have a brand new super weapon.
    >> Voleron 01/09/10(Sat)18:33 No.7510481

You retreat to a safe distance and signal Incognito. Luckily he's been tracking you since you popped back and he arrives within the hour.

You all dismount (apart from Garma who wisely stays in his zaku) and meet up with Incognito and his band of spec ops soldiers.

If we do this we might actually be able to beat the White Base... or as we should call it, "Trojan Horse". Still, Ramming it might be a bad idea, It was after all ramming that killed Garma in canon. we should generally make it a normal spaceship refit rather then a new vessel, That drill would also mean asteroids are a lesser concern, It is a win-win situation.

But i digress, After all we are trying to make LESS prototypes, Not more.

If we capture this thing, we should put a very high priority on making the Feddies think that we destroyed it instead. Pull that off, and they won't know what hit them when this thing drills into Jaburo and unloads a Zeon strike force into the base.
    >> Arty 01/09/10(Sat)19:34 No.7511250
Well I guess it's time for Zeonic Artillery Hour.

As we've all been discussing/meta gaming there are lots of potential ways to defeat the Federation. Something I suggested was making sure that they pay dearly for any attacks on our key positions. Since then I've come up with a plan that will force the Federation to throw an overwhelming number of troops, ships and planes at a point of our choosing. It revolves around leaking intelligence to the feddies of a plan to create a massive siege platform that would threaten Jaburo.

In theory this fixed installation -that I've taken to calling Project Trebuchet- would launch a hypersonic projectile called a Minovski bomb. The minovski bomb is very similar in concept to U.C. Beam weapons. Fusion reactors in the platform would heat and compress plasma which is then contained in a minovski field bubble. The bubble itself is part of the main body of a projectile which will be launched from the 'gun.' There are various ways in which the launch portion could work, but the end result is still the same. The large plasma filled bubble impacts in the general region Jaburo is supposed to be located in. An optimum yield of this device could be as high as 1 megatonne.
    >> Funnel 01/09/10(Sat)19:37 No.7511295
    Hmmm, I was thinking...

Maybe we should try contacting the Flanagan institute after this mission.

To have them evaluate our newtype powers, It should only take a month tops, and we might speed up the development of Newtype equipment.

We just better be sure not to let them give us any "enhancements"...

    Cybernewtypes NEVER end well.
    >> Arty 01/09/10(Sat)19:38 No.7511323
In practice this facility will be fake. All of it an eloborate trap designed to draw out as many Federation forces as possible and wipe them out. If they fail to take the bait we can even arrange a 'test firing' in which we launch a massive magnesium flare or other large light source from the facility. At the predetermined 'impact point' we detonate a Minovski reactor in a manner similar to the Loki particle emitter when we were in Panama.

With such a clear threat the Federation wont hesitate to attack such a site. If our intel people do their job right the Feddies should attack long before construction is complete. The best place to build this thing would be Cuba. It forces the Feddies to coss open water where our subs can wait and causes many other logistical problems.
    >> Funnel 01/09/10(Sat)19:51 No.7511557

    Wouldn´t that be rather expensive?

And seing how Minovski Generators tend to be nuclear powered melting one down purpusfully would probably break the antartic treaty, We got away with it once, It might not work next time.

    But otherwise a solid idea.
