Confinement is boooooring. Let's create a Traveller character. I'll use the rules of Traveller Mongoose (2nd edition) + additional pre-careers and Believer career from the Traveller Companion book.Gimme 1d2 to know if it's a male or a female.
Rolled 2 (1d2)>>71594322bibbity bop, Xor Y
>>715944132 -> FemaleGive me a name for this girl. Also, gimme 12d6 for her characteristics.
Rolled 5, 6, 1, 4, 1, 1, 3, 1, 3, 2, 5, 4 = 36 (12d6)>>71594449Ok, I'll do it for now.
>>71594642STR (Strength) = 11>BruteDEX (Dexterity) = 5>ClumsyEND (Endurance) = 2 (!)>Morbid obesityINT (Intellect) = 4 (!)>Slow-wittedEDU (Education) = 5>StandardSOC (Social Standing) = 9>Upper middle classOk guys, we got a fat-ass lady with monstrous strength, completely dumb though. She still needs a name, if you have an idea, go on.Also, choose her a pre-career. What did she do in her youth before starting her professional life ?>University.>Military academy>Colonial upbringing>Merchant academy>School of Hard-Knock (basically the street)>Spacer Community
>>71594711Ok. That's her name now. Big fat Annalise Whitechaple.
>>71594802Seems like a good candidate for Merchant Academy (someone's niece)
>>71594802Merchant Academy. used family connections to work her way though rather than actual merit. she has a group of hanger ons taht are more scared of her since they once saw her pick up a guy and chuck him 20 feet
>>71594888All that fat's good for inertia at least.
>>71594888>they say she fucking ate a guy!
>>71594887>>71594888Merchant academy then. What curriculum did she pick ? You can choose either Business or Shipboard. Business courses are probably run like a university degree in some big civilized planet while a shipboard curriculum will probably lead our whale to spend a few months on a ship to learn the trade. Also, roll 2d6 - 1 (INT of 4) + 1 (SOC 8+) = 2d6 for Entry. She succeeds if you roll 9 or higher.
>>71594972Shipboard, our whale wants to experience weightlessness and forget her heft.
Rolled 5, 6 = 11 (2d6)>>71595011Oops.
>>71595029She passed ! Her uncle, Archibald Whitechaple, a wealthy merchant stationed five sub-sectors away, played on his professional networks to " ease" the admission test a bit when his niece took it and contacted one of his former business partners to take her under his wing, in his trading ship, for a few years. Now, roll 2d6 for Event.
Rolled 2, 1 = 3 (2d6)>>71595084
>>71595084Oh and also, she gains the following Skills by joining the Shipboard curriculum :Pilot (0), Vacc Suit (0), Athletics (O), Mechanic (0), Engineer (0), Electronics (0), Steward (0).
>>71595100>3>Your time in education is not a happy one and you suffer a deep tragedy; perhaps you become hopelessly addicted to drink or drugs, a failed romance leaves you in tatters, or a fatal accident involving a close friend shakes your confidence. You crash and fail to graduate. What happened to her bros ? Something made her fail despite her uncle's influence. Anyway, she failed her merchant studies. She's now 18 and it's time for her to start her professional life despite her failure. What path did she take ?>Agent>Army>Citizen>Drifter>Entertainer>Marine>Merchant>Navy>Noble>Rogue>Scholar>Scout>Believer
By the way, I have something quick to do. I'll be back in 15 minutes or so.
>>71595236Health complications in 0G, turns out that adjusting to reduced bone density is harder when you're hauling several kilos of meat. I say we go Merchant, she's too dumb to give up on her life's dream.
>>71595236She spent the whole time being called 'Widechapel' by her peers who also snickered over her nepotist position, when she wasn't screeching at the peanut gallery she was holed up in her cabin eating emergency rations and crying.
>>71595236>MerchantShe's gonna make it.>>71595314Poor bitch.
>>71595297Actually I take it back. Do stats only factor in as requirements or do different professions train them? If the latter she might do a stint in the army boot camp to get rid of her flab and show the bullies they were wrong. She's already got the 'tard strength, with some stamina we'll have an amazon monster on our hands.
>>71595236>entertainerShe spent a few years as a failing, unfunny comedian propped up by stealing the jokes of other people and terrible "woman" humor.>Amy Schumer in spaaaaaaace
>>71595377actually I'll throw my lot in behind this guy's plan >>71595364 if stats get boosts from jobs
>>71595410If all goes well we might get back into the merchant game as a bodyguard, if we see any snivelling former classmates we can flex on them to intimidating effect.
>>71595364>>71595410Army it is then. After being harassed throughout her school years by her classmates, she fell into depression and dropped out of school overnight. However, her family disowned her, her nine brothers and sisters having all passed their studies at the academy with flying colours. Her uncle refused to speak to her again and, in frustration, advised her father to send her to the army to toughen her up."She is retarded and her case is unrecoverable in this aspect, but it is still possible to make her lose a few pounds. Perhaps we'll be able to get her married."Roll 2d6 -2 (END = 2) to see if she qualifies.
Rolled 6, 3 = 9 (2d6)>>71595573Aw fuck, didn't think this through did we? Disappointment here we come.
Rolled 5, 3 + 2 = 10 (2d6 + 2)>>71595573
>>71595588in space no one can hear you sob
>>71595588>>71595589It's a minus, anon. We have a 7 and a 6 apiece. I only hope the army's requirements are lower than 9, they're meant to be a dustbin for malcontents aren't they?
>>71595588She qualifies, compensating for his nonexistent cardio with phenomenal physical strength (breaking five bones to her instructor during the evaluation of basic combat abilities).Choose an assignment :>Support : You are an engineer, cook or in some other role behind the front lines.>Infantry : You are one of the Poor Bloody Infantry on the ground.>Cavalry : You are one of the crew of a gunship or tank.
>>71595613I was the second one, which you can throw outAnd I did a minus, it just ended up a plus. weird.
>>71595613Army requirement is a roll of 5 or higher with 2d6 + END modifier (-2).
>>71595640We can write support out, since she's retarded. Cavalry doesn't fit with our inferior dexterityInfantry it is!
Just so you know, the Survival rolls for each assignments in their respective paths are :Support -> END 5+ (success if you roll 5 or higher with 2d6 + END modifier)Infantry -> STR 6+Cavalry -> INT 7+
>>71595640We have skills applicable to cavalry but really want to shed that flab. I'd suggest infantry if we know there's a good chance of an END boost, cavalry otherwise.
>>71595691>>71595704Fuck that, didn't see the requirements. Ground pounder it is!
>>71595679>>71595704I don't think she can have a END boost in this career, but I really doubt she can make it in the Cavalry since the Survival roll is INT 7+. So let's go with Infantry.Basic Infantry training for her first term of first Career => She gains :Drive, Athletics, Gun Combat, Recon, Melee, Heavy Weapons, bringing her to :Drive (0)Vacc Suit (0)Athletics (1)Mechanics (0)Engineer (0)Electronics (0)Steward (0)Gun Combat (0)Recon (0)Melee (0)Heavy Weapons.Choose a speciality between Athletics (feats of Strength), Athletics (feats of Endurance), Athletics (feats of Dexterity)Now, choose one of the following categories of military skills and then give me 1d6 roll to know which skill she gains through her first Term in the Infantry : -Personal Development-Service Skills-Advanced Education-Infantry
Rolled 3, 5 + 2 = 10 (2d6 + 2)>>71595691>>71595732
Rolled 5, 6 + 2 = 13 (2d6 + 2)>>71595679>>71595732Two votes for infantry, I'm rollan'.
Rolled 3 (1d6)>>71595862meant to roll +1 sorry but she nailed it.>>71595858feats of strength obv. Personal development because she's got some issues to work through.
>>71595858Feats of endurance, we can handle strength but by god do we need to avoid having a heart attack. I vote Personal Development too, lets hit the treadmill.
Rolled 4 (1d6)>>71595858>Athletics (feats of Strength)>Personal Development
>>71595891>>71595904>>71595916Feats os strength it is, then.>3>END +1Here we go. She finally decided to spend her free time in the evenings jogging around the barracks. Now, roll 2d6 +1 for Survival in the Infantry.
Rolled 6, 6 + 1 = 13 (2d6 + 1)>>71596002
>>71596029Holy shit, not only did she survived but she's taken it like a duck in water.Roll 2d6 for Event in the Infantry.
Rolled 2, 1 = 3 (2d6)>>71596070
Rolled 3, 1 = 4 (2d6)>>71596070Luck, don't fail us now...
>>71596083>3>You are assigned to a planet with a hostile or wild environment. Gain one of Vacc Suit 1, Engineer 1, Animals (riding or training) 1 or Recon 1.Choose either Vacc Suit, Engineer, Animals (riding), Animals (training), ReconPlease, not Animals (riding). Have mercy for the poor beast that she will mount.
>>71596103Maybe Animals (training), she had mercy on that poor pony that shivered when it saw her lumbering to the stable. Once it got over the initial fright it stopped judging her, she liked that.
>>71596103We already have Vacc Suit (0) and Engineer (0) so picking those would give us less total skill ups than picking animals or recon>Animals(riding)Giant deathworlder 'lizard" riding
Rolled 2 (1d2)>>71596123>>715961331 = Animal (training)2 = Animal (riding)
>>71596217Snapped spines it is, empathy is unbecoming of a soldier.
>>71596217On LCK-2533, the snow never stops falling. Stationed on this cursed planet, Annalise had to learn how to ride, given the impossibility of manoeuvring military vehicles in such an environment. Fortunately, the local animals were much more resistant than Earth horses.Ok, now you have a choice.-Roll for Advancement (try to be promoted to Lance Corporal)-Roll for Commission (try to become an officer)-Quit this career.
>>71596279Being an officer sounds like we'd need brains, Lance corporal seems more doable. I hope to hell we aren't rolling END again...
>>71596279Lance Corporal baby! Let's make a career out of being a dumbass grunt.
>>71596318Rolling for advancement in Infantry is EDU 6+Gimme 2d6 -1
Rolled 3, 1 + 1 = 5 (2d6 + 1)>>71596344Oh god. I mean statistically, we're likely to pass. Right?
Rolled 2, 5 + 1 = 8 (2d6 + 1)>>71596344Ah shit, wish us luck boys. At this rate we'll develop a phobia of examination.
>>71595653This guy's right, 4chan's enforcing positive thinking!>>71596354>>71596359
>>71596354>4Aaaaaand... She failed. The ease with which she navigates the battlefield, basically rushing in a straight line and crushing everyone in her way, could have impressed her superiors if she hadn't to stop after 10 seconds and almost die of exhaustion because of her terrible cardio.Annalise Whitechaple current profile :STR 11DEX 5END 3INT 4EDU 5SOC 9Age : 22.Private in the Infantry.Skills :Athletics (feats of strength) (1), Animals (riding) (1), Gun Combat (1) (I forgot to tell you that she gained that by joining the Infantry)Vacc Suit (0), Drive (0), Mechanics (0), Engineer (0), Electronics (0), Steward (0), Recon (0), Melee (0), Heavy Weapons (0)Current situation : Stationed on LCK-2533, an isolated ice-covered death world.Ok, new Term in the Infantry. Roll 2d6 + 1 for Survival.
Rolled 3, 2 + 1 = 6 (2d6 + 1)>>71596536
>>71596552Not as good this stint, maybe she's terrified at being a failure in military life as well.
>>71596552Whew lads, she barely survives this Term.Gimme 2d6 for Army Event.
Rolled 1, 5 = 6 (2d6)>>71596641
>>71596660>You are thrown into a brutal ground war. Roll END 8+ to avoid injury; if you succeed, you gain one level in Gun Combat or Leadership.Oh shit, oh shit ! Ok guys, that's our girl's baptism by fire ! Her squad got ambushed by natives in the middle of a fucking blizzard, her comrades are dying all around her ! Shit, she just Sergeant Matthew take a bullet in the eye !Gimme 2d6 -1 !
Rolled 5, 5 = 10 (2d6)>>71596745subtract one from the abovec'mon luck don't fail me now
>>71596767>9She made it bros, she survived this fucking hell. They found her the next day, covered by snow, near-hypotermic, but alive and uninjured.Choose to gain one level in Gun Combat or in Leadership.
>>71596793Gun Combat, our bulk makes recoil easier to handle.
>>71596810Gun Combat it is. Now, she's at Gun Combat (2). Just for you to know, a Skill (2) means she's not just above average with it, she's actually really good, that's the level of a skilled professional in this field.Choose :-Try to be promoted to Lance Corporal (she were so close...)-Try to become an officer.-Quit the army.
>>71596793leadershipGun Combat is cool, but probably based on DEX, which we're not good at. We already have a level in it, too. Leadership may be SOC, which we are good at. therefore...
>>71596861rip, too slow for leadership I guess>Lance Corporal lets get some Promotions!!
>>71596861That's enough army for one lifetime. Find something else to do (Quit).
How far into hard-sci can go with Traveller?
Rolled 6, 4 = 10 (2d6)>>71596861One more attempt and then we run away to join the space circus, with the right genemods we can be the fat lady, the bearded lady and a strongman all rolled into one!
>>71596886Oh, Lance Corporal by the way. We're really not officer material.
>>71596880>>71596881>>71596886>9>SuccessPrivate Annalise Whitechaple died on this battlefied, long live to Lance Corporal Annalise Whitechaple. I wonder if her family knows and how they would react to this promotion.Because she got promoted to Lance Corporal, she gains a new level in Recon. Her current profile is :STR 11DEX 5END 3INT 4EDU 5SOC 9Age : 26.Private in the Infantry.Skills :Gun Combat (2)Athletics (feats of strength) (1), Animals (riding) (1), Recon (1)Vacc Suit (0), Drive (0), Mechanics (0), Engineer (0), Electronics (0), Steward (0), Melee (0), Heavy Weapons (0)Current situation : They gave him permission to leave LCK-2533. She's now stationed on a fairly ordinary planet in the inner sectors, fairly close to her home planet.Gimme 2d6 -1 for Survival.
Rolled 3, 6 = 9 (2d6)>>71596982subtract one from total
>>71596884You can go pretty far. The setting is pretty hard-SF to begin with, and there are advanced rules in an other book to make it even harder.
>>71596982We'll bump our END up by one more point so that she's as thicc as she is thick then we'll be on our merry way.
>>71596982Also, I completely forgot but once you make it to level 1 in Gun Combat you have to choose a specialization.Distribute two levels in the following specializations : >Archaic (primitive weapons such as bows and blowpipes)>Energy (energy weapons like laser pistols or plasma rifles)>Slug (weapons that fire solid projectiles such as the autorifle or gauss rifle)You can put the two levels into the same category if you want.
>>71596991>8>SuccessGimme 2d6 for Army Event.
>>71597032SLUGandSLUGnone of that rockchucking or noncy phaser shit here
>>71597032Slug, we're a massy lass and we like our guns the same.
Rolled 4, 3 = 7 (2d6)>>71597045
>>71597032It's absolutely slug.
>>71597070>7>Life EventGimme 2d6 for Life Event.
Rolled 5, 6 = 11 (2d6)>>71597097
Rolled 4, 6 = 10 (2d6)>>71597097
>>71597110>You commit or are the victim (or are accused) of a crime. Take the Prisoner career in your next term.Ha !
>>71597127Jesus we're just straight up rolling Full Metal Jacket here.
>>71597127>>71597135If we don't escape through judicious use of Animal(riding) I will be greatly disappointed.
>>71597127Maybe we accidentally sat on somebody.
>>71597127>Prisoner : Every society has its bad apples and even in the far future punishments usually take place within faceless institutions where criminals can be conveniently forgotten.First, tell me what our girl did to get arrested and sentenced to years of prisons.Second, choose an assignment :>Inmate : You just try to get through your time in prison without getting into trouble.>Thug : You are part of a gang in prison, terrorising the other inmates.>Fixer : You can arrange anything - for the right price.
>>71597165Thug, we learned in university that it's bully or be bullied.
>>71597165She was framed for cannibalism during the arctic ambush, or maybe she shanked a superior officer for calling her Lardy>thugis there even another option with our sheer mass? She'd probably terrorize the other inmates without even noticing.
>>71597165Someone tried to throw their weight around in our unit, bully us, and we hit back too hard and got blood on our hands. In prison we might have started out as an inmate but we definitely ended up a thug.
>>71597207>annalise slaps a guy>*splorch*>"and that's how Annalise rediscovered the sport of golf"
>>71597203I think it's that and someone started rumours that her new rank was just more nepotism. It's the only thing she'd ever earned so she hit back, hard.
>>71597193>>71597203>Thugh.You gain a level in Melee (unarmed).Annalise Whitechaple current profile :STR 11DEX 5END 3INT 4EDU 5SOC 9Age : 30.Private in the Infantry.Skills :Gun Combat (Slug) (2)Athletics (feats of strength) (1), Animals (riding) (1), Recon (1), Melee (unarmed) (1)Vacc Suit (0), Drive (0), Mechanics (0), Engineer (0), Electronics (0), Steward (0), Heavy Weapons (0)Current situation : Detained in St-Everald high-security penitentiary.Gimme 2d6 +1 for Survival. You succeeds with 8 or higher. Thugh is a dangerous life in a space prison.
Rolled 3, 6 + 1 = 10 (2d6 + 1)>>71597255man, space prison is a real shithole
Rolled 3, 1 = 4 (2d6)>>71597255Thug life ain't easy.
>>71597255Also, gimme 1d6 + 4 for your initial Parole Threshold. A Traveller may not normally leave or be ejected from the Prisoner career – not even mishaps will force them to leave. Instead, they have a value called a Parole Threshold. At the end of each term in the prisoner career, if the Traveller’s Advancement roll is greater than their Parole Threshold, it means their prison sentence has come to an end and they leave this career. Otherwise, they may not leave this career and must continue in it for another term.
>>71594322Is the Traveller Companion in the Trove? I can’t seem to find it
>>71597269Anyone know how to get minuses to work properly?>>71597278Looks like we narrowly missed getting shivved.
Rolled 5 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>71597283jesus, that's some shitteryif you roll too high, you're in prison forever
>>71597269She made it, probably becoming the boss of her own gang.Gimme 2d6 for Prison Event.
Rolled 5 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>71597283Is high good or bad?
>>71597298yeah see, like thatfucking hell>>71597292not a clue, looks like 4channel's chimping out
Rolled 3, 4 = 7 (2d6)>>71597298>>71597305Huh, double rolling amounted to nothing.>>71597301Can love bloom behind bars?
Rolled 5, 1 = 6 (2d6)>>71597301>>71597305bad. very bad. we're career prisoners now.
Oh fuck, I'm sorry guy but I have an emergency, I have to go now, I'll probably be back in a few hours but I don't know. If someone can carry on without me, go on. If the thread is still up tomorrow, I'll be there.
Rolled 3, 5 = 8 (2d6)>>71597321That's another life event, right? I'll roll and hope we don't get double prison somehow.
>>71597335We'll manage, it's passed the time at least.
>>71597335damn, and my traveller pdf is the wrong editionwell, it was nice while it lasted. thanks, op
>>71597386Go on the general for Traveller, you'll find a link with everything.
>>71597386Never fear, I found it on the trove. I'll be continuing presently.
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>71597321I rolled first so here's the event.1. Riot. A riot engulfs the prison. Roll 1D. On a 1-2, you are injured – roll on the Injury table. On a 5-6, you are able to loot something useful; gain an extra Benefit roll this term. 2. New Contact. You make friends with another inmate; gain them as a Contact. 3. New Rival. You gain a new rival among the inmates or guards. 4. Transferred. You are moved to a different prison. Re-roll your Parole Threshold. 5. Good Behaviour. Reduce your Parole Threshold by -2. 6. You are attacked by another prisoner. Roll Melee (unarmed) 8+. If you fail, roll on the Injury table.
Rolled 3 (1d6)>>71597426Not many decisions for the thread to make in prison are there? Let's see how that riot goes.
>>71597447>new rivalaw shit, we pissed off the cartels, didn't we?
Rolled 5, 5 = 10 (2d6)>>71597549I rolled as I posted the list, that one was to see whether we get shanked in the riot. Now we roll for advancement and see if we can surpass the parole threshold (we rolled 9 earlier). Advancement's END for thugs, we might want to try being a good little prisoner next term and rolling STR.
>>71597683With the minus one from shitty END we have just enough to make parole. Those laps around the gym were just enough to get us through, vindication!
>>71597711How much more of a career does Annalise get before she's game-ready?
>>71598765You can stop the character creation whenever you want. Starting from age 34 (which she is now), every new Term will require a roll that can give you malus related to aging. So you can decide to play a grizzled veteran with a lot of years of experience behind him and a lot of skills but also a lot of maluses to his characteristics (low strength, endurance and dex due to age) and potentially a lot of enemies and rival gained during his life, or play a young character with only a few skills but good characteristics. In Mongoose Traveller, you can't die in the character creation so theorically you can continue infintely (but you'll end up eventually with characteristics at 0), but in the Classic Traveller, you could die during the character creation at any moment, whether from Injury, assassination, old age (if I remember well)...
>>71598851So we probably stop here right. Just released from prison, looking for a job.
