Hey there /tg. Over in >>70391816 I started work on a Bionicle system I've dubbed Masks of Destiny. An anon suggested I move the topic to its own thread, so I'm doing it. Will reply to this post with the current WIP. I just finished the first run of the Great Masks. Things that were brought up I intend to work in:>Better formatting>Rules for playing as creatures other than Toa, Matoran, and Turaga as well as unique powersets and rules for them as Optional/Variant rules, might integrate them into the "Core" rules later>Filtering the masks further, removing ones Toa would consider "amoral" from the Toa list
>>70534274Current WIP, 0.4. Going to start work on the Toa Tools section - and it should be pretty fun. Rather than a pre-set list, I'm going to basically make it a very GM fiat thing where players create Tool Components which are modifiers that alter the weapon. For example, a Quarterstaff could have Reach which allows the wielder to make Melee attacks beyond Adjacent range (1 unit) or a Toa with a pair of weapons could take Extra Weapon which grants them a bonus attack when they take the Attack action that does half damage or something like that. I intend to create a set of "example" Tool Components to help get people started.
>>70534274This sounds cool anon, can't wait to see the system!
That sounds really interesting, OP. I'll check it out when I have some free time.Quite a few years back there was an attempt to make a Bionicle RPG, but it fizzled out. Sort of a too many cooks in the kitchen kind of thing. I miss the guys from it, though.I'd be interested in helping to any capacity.
>>70534439I might need help playtesting at some point, and if you have anything you think is missing I'm more than glad to hear about it and try to work it in. >>70534404see >>70534335 , that's what I have so far. Currently only supports Toa as a "core" race but I did offer a couple of examples for Turaga and Matoran and will be including variant rules/powers for other beings like Makuta, whatever the Piraka are called (I can't recall the name of their race off the top of my head), Dark Hunters, and maybe even some rules for Hordika Venom and other things as optional/variant rules. I also intend to have a Rule of Cool Dice system, basically if you can sufficiently impress the GM with a description of your attack/action/skill you get a bonus D6 and thus a better chance at success on that roll. I might make turns work so that each "side" in a fight basically all take their turn on the same initiative (highest of that group) so that there's opportunities for Tier 2 RoC dice (2d6 instead of 1d6 bonus) for creative teamwork (i.e. a Toa of Water sprays a foe with water and then a Toa of Lightning hits them with a bolt or something along those lines, basically rewarding teamwork and cooperation). Don't know if it'll be a Core or Variant rule.
>>70534274Anon from previous thread. Forgot to mention that Matoro used Tryna (The Mask of Reanimation) which was considered amoral.
>>70535115Yeah, it was a test by the Ignika. Again, I might add a small footnote or something under Tryna's entry considering I am including Shadow as a Rare Element (and explain the origins in that section) so a Shadow Toa who's morally gray/ an Anti-hero might be willing to use a Mask of Reanimation whereas most toa would shy away from doing so.
OP here, I think I've finished the Character Creation portion. Next is Combat. Current consideration:>Each character has a pool of 3 actions>Actions are either Simple or Complex>Simple actions consume 1 Action, Complex consume 2.>Attacking, Using Elemental Powers, or Activating your Mask Power is a Complex Action>Moving, Skill Checks, and Reloading ranged weapons are Simple ActionsThoughts on this and anything you think is lacking that I haven't already commented on are appreciated.
Hey, I'm not sure if you'd find this useful, but a few years ago another group of people tried to make a Bionicle system. I was a part of it, but I wasn't very smart. Maybe some of what they worked on would be inspiring.https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RmGLUBNkpkZf-Nl-rQRh_0kMiTuynB22ZNhbuQcV_rA/edit
>>70536202I like the Unity Check idea, I might actually incorporate something similar. There a name I should include in the credits page if I end up using it or something that takes elements from it?
>>70536279It's been too long, I can't be sure. But the document owner is Samuel Wolfe, and I believe the similar skype name is his. That's as good a guess as any.
>>70536419Alright, will do.
>>70536202>>70536279>>70536419>>70536467That's me. Already posted in this thread as >>70534439I'm in a session right now, but I'd be down to talk with you about anything when I'm done.
>>70536547Sweet, take your time and finish your session. I've got a DDA game I run tomorrow so probably won't get much work done on this project until Monday.
>>70536547Geez, sorry man, I didn't realize. Glad to see you're still around though.
>>70534274How would Bionicle characters do in other settings?
>>70534274Since the Bionicle stuff has moved here, can we talk about island setting stuff on the old one?
>>70534274Also, some were only considered amoral after the Makuta went rogue, since they used them more than Toa did.
Oh fuck, a Bionicle game. Would love to play that shit. Too bad no one I play with except one person fucking knows Bionicle
>>70537402Yeah, sorry for dragging that thread so off-topic.>>70537421Then it seems like that's more a decision for the GM to make based on the timing of the setting. If you're doing a game set 6000 years ago inside of Mata-Nui's left foot or something then I guess they wouldn't be amoral?>>70537442Well I'll probably either make a GFG, post in one, or make another thread about this when I'm ready to do playtesting, I'd be more than happy to have you on board. If I buckle down I might even be able to have the whole thing in a playable form in a week or so. It'd be rough but that's what playtesting is for.
>>70536580Hey, no problem. If you've got my google than you should have my Gmail. Hit me up if you want.>>70536713No offense was taken. It's good to see someone else from that.
>>70534585Mutations and viruses in general should have their own rules as a subset of character creation. Considering that they are an important part of the lore. In the alt universe Makuta Krika made a virus that gave the temporary ability to fly.
>>70539005I feel like those should be more in the GM section of the book honestly. Most examples of it are the villains using their abilities or weapons to mutate others or the environment. Like, The Pit naturally mutates anything that enters it and the Visorak and Roodaka have venom and a spinner that can mutate others (such as Nidhiki). Feels more like a tool in the GM's toolkit for challenging players or telling a specific kind of story rather than something the players should generally have access to.
Bumping with best Toa
>>70538002I helped a little bit as well with that! Good to see people still knocking around.I'm the guy trying to do the Savage Worlds thing made more difficult by not ever playing SW before but if you can come up with something that works with Bonkle I'd love to help make it happen.I'm a huge lorefag if that helps as well so I'd be happy to reference things.
>>70540445Maybe if we're talking toys and designs, but if we're talking actual characters I actually like the Inikia/Mahri a bit more because they feel more real. They're less like legendary heroes and more like a bunch of people out of their depth doing their duty.
>>70540666Sure, Satan, but I still wish that it had been the Chronicler's Company, just because they were a much weirder variety of Matoran.
>>70540694True, I guess they went with the ones they did because there was brand recognition. Most of them were in the first movie, and the others all had toys of their matoran forms as well. Even a layman could recognize them and understand given the info from the Metru Nui arc about how Toa come to be. Chronicler's Company would have been better overall in the context of the whole story, but not everyone played the online game or read the books and so the Chronicler's Company becoming toa might have straight-up killed the brand then and there - though it's a miracle it lasted as long as it did. I also realized in re-reading the books via the Biological chronicle compilation PDF that the era of the inika was the "edgy" phase. They talk about how the toa mata literally fell to bits when they arrived on Mata Nui because they'd been afloat so long their biological parts had deteriorated. That's a disgusting thought and while it was required after the movies established they were in fact bio-mechanical it's just said so casually in the context of the book.
>>70535115I believe that I also mentioned in the last thread, but some masks were only considered immoral after the Makuta, who favored using them, went bad.
>>70536713What's the text say?
>>70543987Love is Canon. It is a reference to that time farshley said that matorans can't reproduce through sex so they are incapable of feeling certain emotions like love in the traditional sense. Macku and Hewkii are the best known case of "romance" in the matoran universe.
>>70540694I think it’s cool that the Chronicler’s Company stayed Matoran. To me the point of the MNOG story was showing that the Matoran could be heroes too, that they weren’t helpless bystanders. Plus, I’m sure most people preferred to see Jaller and Hahli come back to the story and become Toa rather than Kapura and Macku.Speaking of which, OP, I think it would be a good idea to include Matoran as a playable race. They’re popular, they should be simple to implement, and people might enjoy playing a character with lower power and focus more on role playing.
Very neat idea, I'm excited to see how it comes out. I had been thinking about how to make a TTRPG about Bionicle myself.
Based Bonkle thread
>>70548708Well "races" would only really be differentiated by a couple of factors given the current system. The way they can allocate stats is the first; I gave some examples in the PDF >>70536132 for Matoran and Turaga. I'm thinking if I want to properly cement them as a "Core" race the stats should work out something like this:>Matoran cannot use Great Kanohi or Elemental Powers but in exchange have higher CP and distribution into each category (Attributes and Skills), and Starting Caps but lower Ending Caps>Toa have access to Great Kanohi and Elemental Powers as well as la higher End Cap but have lower CP, distribution, and starting caps.>Turaga can use Elemental Powers and Noble Kanohi (which I'll have to add) and have middle-of-the road CP, Distibution, and capsThe other races would have numbers somewhere between Toa and Turaga (varies) and would have unique mechanics and be a "variant rule" (because everyone needs to be on board for a villainous campaign and letting them be core just encourages "that guys" from my experience). I think making it a Variant rule that requires GM approval could work. Like, we've seen Teridax work with toa before in service of a common goal so a "villanous" race working with Toa/Matoran could be possible but ultimately should be handled with care. At what point should I draw the line though? Like should I just have Piraka/Dark Hunters/Makuta or should I also have Rahkshi/Bohrak/Kal statblocks?>>70549327If you have any ideas to contribute or anything you'd like to see feel free to say something. I'm running another game here in an hour so I won't have a chance to work on it until later today but I'll try and have some stuff done and post a new version with the included changes this evening.
>>70549691Nothing on hand, a lot of it is better than what I had in mind personally
>>70549817Well again if you come up with anything or think I should tweak something feel free to say something then.
BonkleChads, what're your favourite masks? Design, ability and name-wise?Gotta be Matoro's Iden or Nuparu's Kadin for me.
>>70550620>DesignVakama's Toa Mask>PowerMatau's Toa Mask>NamePikari. It's just a word that sounds good.
>>70550656Wait was it Pikari or Pakari? Mask of Strength right?
>>70550683Pikari I think.
>>70550620Matau's Mahiki was a good one too
>>70550620Crast. I like the crest it has.
>>70545005How ARE new Matoran made, again?
>>70553436In a ceremony overseen by the Turaga, implied to be entirely mechanical in nature, but exact details aren't given.
>>70553436In a machine on Metru Nui, apparently. It's never shown up in the story, but Greg alluded to it.
Big update. Added Matoran and Turaga as core races. Toa start with a middling amount of CP, the lowest Starting Cap on their Attributes/Skills, and lowest Area Cap but have the highest Final Cap at 10. Turaga cannot use Great Masks and use Noble Masks, weaker versions of the Great masks. They start with the lowest amount of CP at 40 but the middle Starting Cap and Final Cap as well as sharing the lowest Area Cap. Matoran have the highest starting CP at 50, as well as the highest Starting Cap at 5, but the lowest Final cap at 8 and the highest Area Cap at 25. Considering Matoran cannot use Elemental Powers or Great/Noble masks, they make up for it with more Skill/Attribute versatility. I tweaked some text, added a section on Noble Kanohi, and reworked toa Tools into simply Tools.
>>70534335Yowzers this is cool
>>70555836see>>70555676Just did a heavy revision of the core race mechanics. Things like Makuta and Piraka will be Variant/Optional rules or a separate PDF entirely.
This site has a lot of Bionicle stuff. Can't find a PDF of the old Guide I used to have though. :'(https://crosswiredgeeks.com/biologicalchronicle/
>>70556060I've been pounding through Biological Chronicle, a compilation someone made of all the books and some of the comics and side content that basically makes the whole thing cohesive.
>>70556166>>70556060Ah it's the same thing, my bad. I found it elsewhere. I've been using the Complete version for reference.
Oh hell yeah. The official guidebook is in here. https://biomediaproject.com/bmp/files/story/guides/
Is G3 2020 confirmed bros? I’ll have to take apart all of my shitty matoran OCs from my childhood and make something good in preparation
>>70556255Fucking based, this'll help tons.>>70556274I'd love it to be true. I'll probably end up doing a G2 expansion for this system (I'm the guy working on it) if there's demand. The current build is based solely on G1 because it's what I"m familiar with.
>>70556274Did this homebrew ever release?
>>70556329No problem. Here's an art too, for inspiration. http://bzpower<dot>com/Imaging/stories/The_Art_of_LEGO_BIONICLE.pdf
Crazy. Just yesterday I got back into Bionicle and tried to see if it had any tabletop games, then I go on /tg/ and see this. I'm happy that I'm at least not the only one that likes this weird series.
>>70556479It's got one of the best settings I've ever seen, all biomechanical and yet very focused on elements and nature.
The guide in Word format, as well as perhaps a flatter PDF scan? A bunch of goodies. I had no idea there was this much recorded lore. This could be a lot of fun. http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/27194-bionicle-guide-collection/
>>70557290Thanks, but I already have all the Bionicle fonts except the pro version of the main logo font. I even did a basic token mock-up using Vakama. Top-left is the Race, Bottom-right is the name. I tried to make it look like the oldest Bionicle canister wrapping border. If you have any suggestions for better borders that'd be great.
>>70557345Looks great. I'd forgotten they had rounded corners. Reminds me of opening my first one at like age seven. Thanks for doing this. I checked on the Generations project and while it is behind schedule, it seems they are set on completing it. It could complement your finished game nicely as a kind of stat-less sourcebook. Good luck and reach out to us here if you need anything.
>>70557514For reference, this is the image I was using. It's not perfect but it is close. I'll keep an eye on Generations though, thanks for bringing it up.
>>70557566That... that brings back a LOT of memories. Dang. I'm realizing I enjoy some of the settings I do now because of the early comics.
Hey since people are sharing resources, I was wondering if there was anywhere that had an archive of music from the old games/movies? Since I use Roll20 with the Enhancement Suite I like having a soundtrack.
>>70555676I'm going to be brutally honest here. Matoran should be more comparable to a Heroic Mortal than they are. Screw balancing those three around one another- you should only be mixing stuff like Toa/Skakdi/Glatoran, not Toa/Turaga/Matoran.
>>70558181I intend to make Makuta/Dark Hunters/Skakdi/other "evil" races a variant rule and even then more guidelines than hard-and-fast statblocks. Originally it was just Toa that were playable, but people asked after Matoran and Turaga so I opted to make them "core". Personally I'm not a fan of systems with classes or races, the closest I wanted to get was "here's a baseline with Toa, if you want to have other playable races then balance them around this and construct their starting stats in a similar manner" which is what I'm going to do with the Makuta/Dark Hunters/ etc. As for Glatoran, they really just feel like boring versions of the Toa to me. No elemental powers, no mask powers, they're just regular dudes who fight each other. Then again I'm a boomer so of course I'm going to hate the last arc of Bionicle G1 and not give a shit about G2. I will provide tools for people to craft their own statblocks and whatnot though so if you'd rather balance things around that, go right ahead. The system supports it.
>>70558373Point is, Matoran are generally just worse than Toa. There should not be a mixed party of Matoran, Toa, or Turaga- it's not really something that ever happened in the setting. Remember that Matoran can become Toa, too, which is why I suggested treating them like Heroic Mortals instead of like the Toa are.
>>70558046look up the biomedia project. Or just search Bionicle OST on youtube.
>>70534274>Masks of DestinyYou've gotta find a name that doesn't induce physical pain.
>>70558479That was the original intent, originally it was just Toa since they're the only real "heroic" race that are populous in any way, but again I had requests for it, if you don't like them... Just tell your players you aren't using them. That's the joy of tabletop games, specifically how this is set up, you can run however you like and tweak numbers to easily fit within the framework of the system. >>70559245Had to think of something catchy, considering most TTRPGs that are fan-made and based on media are just "THE [INSERT FRANCHISE HERE] TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAME" which I find dreadfully dull.
An irregular reminder that the most based way to approach the setting of bonkles is to disassemble it into parts and never use them all at once.
>>70559323Could be >UNITY, DUTY, DESTINY: TALES OF THE BIONICLEMasks of Destiny works well enough for me.
>>70559697Something Legends, something Tales, all of those are nice sounding. I'm completely open to a different name, but I needed something for the cover and to save the Docx file and PDFs as.I'll workshop it by the time I'm done.
I might keep an eye on the progress of this thing because I would love to run a Bionicle campaign. Can you give a rough estimate when the character creation stuff is done and when GM tools will be started?
>>70555676I appreciate the reworked mask names, but you should probably say what the power is in plain English as well for people not caught up on Bonkle lore.>KomauAmoralHmm...
>>70561276Well you could make a point about Komau being amoral. The power of the mask is rather evil all things considered. The morality question should be as follows:>Would the mask's power fit a makuta in theme and/or was it used by a makuta?
>>70562832>>70561276>>70555676Just like IRL hypnosis, the mask cannot make someone do something they find against their morals. So, les evil than you're implying.
>>70563833>>70561276>>70562832Wasn't aware, I'll change that then.>>70560053I'm basically done with Character Creation. GM tools will come at the end after I finish general mechanics and combat. If I work at it hard enough I can have something functional (BUT NOT PLAYTESTED) by the end of the week.
What would be a more Bionicle-Sounding name for Rule of Cool/Stunt mechanics? Basically a +1 to +3 bonus to a check or pool based on how creative the player gets or how risky they get. Example, rather than just climbing up a wall they leap from handhold to handhold as they go up and describe the action in-depth so they gain a bonus for being awesome. Each +1 after the first gets progressively harder to pull off and generally you'll never see +4 or higher bonuses (personally I'd award something higher if you describe a heroic, self-sacrificing action like Turaga Likahn blocking a hit for Vakama or Jaller grasping onto the fear staff of a Rahkshi to save Takua for examples from the canon).
>>70566267Oh my god it hit me, what about Destiny? Fate converging in turn with heroic actions to help someone succeed.
>>70566346>>70566267Destiny absolutely works. Keep teamwork rules as Unity (and flesh them out). Now the question is what we do with Duty.
>>70567979Duty is for stacking checks. Basically, if you have to make a set of checks to accomplish a complex task, you make them and record successes and failures as you go. The last check is the only one that matters, but when you make it you gain a bonus or take a negative depending on successes/failures made to the other checks. Say you have to make a mad scramble to reach a falling Matoran before he becomes bricks and biomatter on the Protodermis of a Ta-Metru street; you make a series of 6 Skill Checks. You stumble and botch the first one, but manage to pass the next 4. The last check has 1 subtracted from the result, but then gets another 4 added.
>>70568089And obviously, the result of the last one determines the outcome. You roll 3d6 + Athleticism + Body + 4 and get a total of 20. You catch the Matoran with practiced ease and his life is saved! The alternative would also be true and I might even force a Terror check if applicable.
Here's the next update.>Finished the General Mechanics section. Includes Unity (Assisting others in Checks), Duty (Sequential checks), and Destiny ("Rule of Cool" mechanic, bonuses for better roleplaying when making checks or taking risks), rules for Skill Checks and Pool Checks, Healing between battles, Wealth, and Character Advancement>Tweaked the base stats for Turaga, Matoran, and Toa. Added a note about tweaking them or removing certain races for your game.>Renamed Health to Durability.>Added English names/effects for the masks>Tweaked the Kaukau (Waterbreathing) mask's Noble effect>Removed AMORAL from Mask of Mind Control>Buffed the Great Calix (Mask of Fate) to +2 from +1>Added a contested check for others to determine the true identity of someone using a Mahiki (Illusion) Kanohi to the Great and Noble variants>Added more detail to the Vahi (Time) mask effect, limiting its use to once per Combat/in-game Day (depending on if used in/out of Combat).>Added note that says Toa can use Noble MasksOf note, I'll likely have to switch to temporary file hosting (I'd rather not take up space on my Dropbox
>>70569479(I'd rather not take up space on my Dropbox with every single pre-release version)*Posted before I was finished typing because I fucked off to go move the older versions out of the folder to another one that isn't synched to Mega.
>>70550620The O.G. Hua is an old favorite. Honorable mentions to the Pakari, Huda, and Ruru.I never really got super interested in the designs past the Toa Nuva; they got too complex for my personal taste.
>>70569479>>70569490Even more tweaks:>Kanohi that had unique rolls or effects now use the Effects listed in the book>Each Element now has the ability to apply an Effect to its Elemental Attack.>Combat section is finished; might be tweaked to be a bit simpler in terms of how distance is measured but currently I think it works well enough. Going to get started on Game Mastering then after that will be Optional/Variant rules for those by-the-book types who don't want to come up with their own houserules or just need a jumping-off point. These will include pre-made statblocks for playable Dark Hunters, Makuta, and Skakdi as well as a few powers to accompany them as well as Kaita/Nui rules.
>>70571283Also, this is TECHNICALLY playable now. If you know how to run a game, you can run it, but it HAS NOT BEEN PLAYTESTED YET and therefore encounter balancing is going to need work. Going off of similar systems I'm going to spitball you should be making enemy encounters with a CP total between 10% and 100% what the players have, adjusted for number of enemies of course. Don't throw 6 enemies that have twice the CP of your players at a team of 6 players, throw one massive enemy with that much (i.e. a Kanohi Dragon) or a bunch of smaller enemies that have 5-10% CP use. That's my recommendation anyway, will need to do some playtesting to be sure.
>>70571352Fuck yeah. I'd be down to playtest whenever a group can come together.
>>70571352Thanks for this, I'll play test it within the week and give feedback based on my findings with my group.Question is, which arc of Bioncles should I make the sessions be based off? OG might be the most simplest to do but Metru or Mahri might be more interesting .
>>70571584I might be able to get something together later this week depending on when I've shored up the sheets and Variant Rules. I'd very much like to have those since there seems to be a big demand for other playable races being in the PDF.>>70571609I haven't finished a proper sheet yet, so if you want that you'll need to wait until at least tomorrow. If you play on Roll20, I can have a .json file you can import with the VTT enhancement suite for a very barbaric and barebones sheet to make rolling easier and a .TXT file with all the "character" info (Element, Mask(s), name, race, bio and so forth) that can be copied into a Handout and edited by players to keep up with that done in a few minutes to half an hour depending on how much the ability macros fight me. I don't have a R20 Pro account and I can't code for shit so even if I wanted to have a GUI sheet on Roll20 for it I couldn't. Otherwise, have fun and tell me how it goes.
>>70550620Kuakua for me. I just overall really love Gali's original design (cue joke about literal bolt-on titties). Also for everyone who /cryoshell/ here, they have an orchestral release of Creeping in My Soul. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRm7yPssIwQ

>>70578908No, originally that was where the Bohrok nest was going to be and where they came from but the idea was scrapped because the story team thought that it would make the reveal of Mata Nui too obvious. Not sure it still exists in canon or not but it appears a lot in fanart
OP here again, starting to brainstorm stuff for Dark Hunters/Makuta/Skakdi, considering using the Rahkshi power list as a starting point for the powers of Hunters/Skakdi at least considering Hakann has Heat Vision and a lot of the other Piraka have vision powers similar to masks of power or Rahkshi. Yes or no as a starting point? It would differentiate them from Toa/Turaga and possibly allow for playable Rahkshi (though they're a "stupid" race compared to others for the most part, more beast than person). I'm also aware Skakdi post-Makuta encounter can use elements when with another Skakdi so that would have to be taken into consideration.
hey. i was here to talk about the design for the island concept. you see i was trying to work on the island for the bionicle animated reboot.
>>70550620Pic relatedpohatu’s kakama is a real sweet design but I’d like to wear a mask of telekinesis
>>70579615I was going to suggest that if you decided on playable Makuta, since they have such a ridiculously large amount of powers, to separate them into major/minor powers and have them only able to take a few (so for example, you could have Heat Vision as a major power and then take Chameleon and Confusion as minor powers). Playable Rahkshi doesn't really make sense since in canon they're basically mindless slugs in battle armor the Makuta fart out en masse to do their dirty work, but having them statted as enemies would work. Also it's worth noting that Dark Hunters are less a race and more an organization, so you could really have anything as one.As for Skakdi there's no real guide to what exactly they can or can't have for vision powers other than what the Piraka had so that might need more brainstorming. Keep in mind that they also have access to elemental powers like Toa but can't use them at will like them, they need either special weapons or to be with another Skakdi to use it. So that might be difficult to make sense from a gameplay perspective.Other than that book's looking pretty solid, there's some minor stylistic things you could add but those could come later. I had mentioned being interested in doing the playtest so I can share later.Schedule wise I'm pretty all over the place so as long as it's later in the day I can make it work.

So that might be difficult to make sense from a gameplay perspective.Yeah I noticed. I think just making a list of generic-ish vision powers might work with tiers like masks/Elemental powers. As for the elemental powers, I'm aware of how they work and I might just make a note leaving it up to the GM. Advise that normally it takes at least 2 Skakdi to use them or a special weapon but the GM can tweak this to their taste.>Other than that book's looking pretty solid, there's some minor stylistic things you could add but those could come later. Got any advice on that? I'm currently doing a TL;DR of the timeline (though I do link the Sector01 page on the timeline and say to go there if people want more detail) so once I finish that and a few more bits to help aspiring GMs I'll move on to the Variant/Optional rules and then add a Credits page and I ought to be sorted with the meat, but if you've ideas for garnish do tell.
>>70580005>>70579812Should I lump all the "weird races" into one called Titans? I.e. Roodaka, Sidorak, The Shadowed One, Krekka, and so forth.
>>70579774>pohatu’s kakama is a real sweet design but I’d like to wear a mask of telekinesisTelekinesis was the Matatu, like a better looking version of the Akaku.
>>70580530Well some of those are able to use Kanohi masks and some aren't it would be good to distinguish between them.
>>70581917None of the ones I listed can use Kanohi from what I've read. I need a specific example, and not Teridax or the Kaita either because they are their own beasts. Teridax is a Makuta who can wear masks and are their own thing and Kaita are also their own thing.
>>70579615>possibly allow for playable Rahkshi (though they're a "stupid" race compared to others for the most part, more beast than person)A Kraata that attains great age and experience has complete self awareness. I'd allow it but players would have to be aware that it could be a challenge to roleplay a character with limited sapience.
>>70582389Yeah that's a bit of a fringe thing that like you said you'd allow - I might even allow it too - but since Makuta and Rahkshi share powers they can just pick one of the powers from the Makuta list and we could come up with a stat block. The races I'm going for are mostly ones that are both generally sapient and also have had toys released. More obscure characters such as Kestora won't be included. I'm thinking the example Variant Races I'll have are going to be something like Makuta, Skakdi, Agori, Glatorian, and some catch-all for things like Krekka, Roodaka, Sidorak, and other dark hunters who aren't Toa or Makuta with weird powers. Anything else will be up to Gms to craft with their players as they see fit, and they can re-purpose powers from other races. Alternatively, I might leave the last set as sort of a "boss character" category meant for NPCs only and have things like Mutation Spinners and whatnot as Boss-only Components for Tools or powers. This is what I currently have though. I have to move to temporary file sharing because it's too big for 4chan. https://a.uguu.se/AT8uPdQvyaUR_Bionicle_Masks_Of_Destiny_v0.8.pdf
>>70582146Brutaka, Axonn, Hydraxon, Botar, Sidorak (https://biosector01.com/wiki/Sapient_Species/Unnamed_Species#Sidorak.27s_Species). I also asumed stuff because they all were titan sets or made from titan sets.
>>70580005When it comes to stylistic things I'm thinking like adding how the Kanohi function outside of game mechanics (so instead of just listing stats for the Hau put a full description of its power and drawbacks). I'd also say add stuff like color guides for each element and other such things for character creation, maybe some more flavor text or lore bits to help players get an idea of how to play their character. Granted stuff like that isn't super important cuz I doubt people who aren't super into bonkle would play this but it's worth considering. Stuff like that I'd be willing to assist with but for now I'd say focus on making the crunch make sense.I gave the most recent book a read and everything looks pretty solid to me in terms of crunch but admittedly I'm not the best judge of stuff like that. But nothing super glaring at least
how do you make the design your own bionicle island map? because i wanted advise for the bionicle animated.
>>70582600Buddy you're asking the wrong thread, go try /biog/ on /toy/, they'd know better
>>70582540Ah yeah I forgot about them and had no idea Sidorak had more species representation than himself. Maybe just throw in a line about how whether a race can use Kanohi is up to GM discretion then? That seems like the best way, especially given the fact they fall into Optional/Variant rules.>>70582560>adding how the Kanohi function outside of game mechanics (so instead of just listing stats for the Hau put a full description of its power and drawbacks). The main "Drawback" of Kanohi is that they require a turn-by-turn check to maintain in Combat and cost Creation Points or XP to have (bar Tier 0 which are free at creation but cost 1 XP if you get them later). I could put a blurb describing potential out of use powers, but I'd rather that be left up to the GM's discretion to allow players to try and get creative so at most I'd probably give a couple of examples?>I'd also say add stuff like color guides for each element and other such things for character creationNoted, will do.>maybe some more flavor text or lore bits to help players get an idea of how to play their character.I can do that too, though I did try to cover a lot of the lore in short form in a later section a small blurb about each of the "Core" races (again the stats are just suggestions mostly, recommended but can be tweaked for higher/lower power games) and I did go pretty in-depth on the Variant/Optional races so far.
>>70582744To elaborate on what I mean, something like Telekinesis can be used in-combat to restrain targets but out of combat it has a lot of uses and listing them all would be a nightmare. I enjoy systems where the player can get creative with their abilities to a degree so that's my design philosophy with Kanohi and Elemental powers. Example, you can throw a fireball that hits in an area out to Close as an attack as a Toa of Fire but your Accuracy goes down the more targets you're trying to hit within that area. Out of combat, you can use fire to heat water, heat the air, cauterize a wound, seal a crack in a metal structure... It's all about getting creative and letting the players do cool stuff with the tools they're given.
>>70583932>>70582744Alright so for Agori and Glatorian, since they have no elemental powers and can't use Kanohi and use implants, they get Cybernetic Implants equal to their Body Attribute that function similar to Tool Components (where I provide a list of examples and Players can come up with their own provided the GM approves of what they present). That way, they have a way to keep up with Matoran and Toa. Glatorian will also gain the ability to pick an additional Cybernetic and Tool Component on top of whatever they would normally get. I think that sounds like a fun, fair way to balance Glatorian and Agori against Toa and the others who have special powers. Agori and Glatorian are strong not because of special power or masks but cybernetic implants and their own tenacity.
>>70576552>Did you like the new hands Stars came out with?I haven't been keeping up, so I dunno. >>70578546The Visorak are all right, though some are a bit brightly colored for my taste. I really like the Kinloka as well.Manas were always my favorite aesthetically, though I never got to actually play with any because I was only ever able to afford a few Bionicle sets. Most of my remaining collection is Lerhak (I also had Guurahk, but lost most of his parts), Lhikan, and three Bohrok (one Tahnok, one Gahlok, and one Nuhvok). I had a Tahnok-kal, too, but I lost it a long time ago. Lost all the Krana as well.
>>70534274What MtG colors would the various characters and factions of Bionicle be?
Can anyone tell me if this is offical art or not? If so, who drew it? I want to credit it in the PDF but I need to know who did it. It looks like official art but I've been all over every wiki and google image search and I can't find an artist for the life of me.
>>70585909Just credit Advance, the company that did all the packaging art.
>>70586198Alright. I'm going to do a bit of touching up with flavor for Masks, powers, and races, and give each element a Matoran Ability (small passive buff since the Powers page on Biosector lists them) and it should be basically done for the first version. Once that's sorted I'll make some sort of sheets that are form-fillable and upload both to my dropbox. After that... I suppose I need to set up some times for games to playtest.
>>70586432Excellent. Maybe I'm blind but I'm not seeing a place that lists CP or exp costs for Attributes and Skills.
>>70588161They're 1:1, should probably note that in the section above the stat blocks for the 3 core races. That was just me knowing how it works and not thinking as someone who doesn't know how it works. XP is under Character Advancement.
>>70588310Cool, that's what I guessed but it'd definitely be good to have written out. Does the bonus to body from your size contribute to your body attribute cap, or stack with it? I would assume so, since otherwise Toa would only ever have to put one point into body to reach their cap.
>>70589066Added it right above the statblock.>Does it contribute to your Body cap or stack with it?Stack, but I think the values need a bit of tweaking. Maybe they should affect Strength instead since in the books when one of the Hagah uses his mask of growth he gets stronger? Maybe +1 Strength then another +1 for every size over Tiny? Maybe even over Small honestly. Something like Medium +1, Large +2, Huge +3, Gigantic +4? At the point I made that I wasn't quite sure how I was going to handle everything, I kind of did notes out of order then slapped them together IN order. Now that I've got most stuff sorted it seems a bit strong.
>>70589160I think body works. Size only making someone stronger, not more durable as well doesn't really track for me personally. But I could definitely see some tweaking into how much they contribute to body.Since body also ties into how tanky you are, it might be something that gets tweaked on the fly during playtests. To little a bonus and larger characters are glass jaws, too big of one and you could find yourself dealing with a very sloggish fight for everyone involved.
>>70589327I could just make it so Small characters don't get the Body bonus and then basically bump everything else down a tier. The issue only really arises when you get characters with Masks of Growth. Great Masks can reach Huge while Noble ones can only reach Large. A Medium toa who uses a Mask of Growth basically gets a massive boost to Durability and such even if it's on a timer (they will eventually not be able to make their maintain check on their mask power). I suppose in that sense it's balanced? THe issue is most glaring with Titans and Makuta since some Titans (GM discretion basically) can wear Kanohi and all Makuta can and Makuta can be Large (since Teridax's first armor we see in Mask of Light was about twice the size of Takanuva). Considering it's a Mask power I think that's enough to balance it for most, but it could get rather crazy. There's also the matter of space; if a player tries to abuse their Mask of Growth too much the GM can start forcing them into smaller spaces more often (not always so as to not completely negate the mask power but enough that they don't just dominate every single encounter and thus their mask becomes more situational). The Mask of Growth could also specify that Durability they get is Temporary and vanishes when they return to their normal size.
>>70571283keep it up anon, I lurk heavily on /tg/ now for this
Here it is, the Dropbox link to the first "full" version. It's not been playtested yet mind you - that comes later - but everything is here in some capacity. If you notice any spelling or formatting errors or outdated terminology (I bounced around a few different terms for Durability, Precision, Evasion, and so on) let me know. A lot of the numbers are probably going to be tweaked - though I personally prefer high-power players for more "heroic" games, I know I'm probably in the minority - by the end of it. I'll try to get something together in the next week or so, with the goal to run the first Play-test February 1st from around 11 AM to 3-4 PM (UTC-6/US Central time), so if you're interested - well, my discord and public e-mail are in the document. I'm easier to reach on the former than the latter. https://www.dropbox.com/s/yqh90n1zpo3d97j/Bionicle_Masks_Of_Destiny_v1.0.pdf?dl=0The Character Sheet in PDF form is here - mainly intended for physical play via printing it out. I'm too much of a brainlet to figure out Form Fillable PDFs so if one of you can manage to do that and somehow get an image field in it as well go nuts, I'll use it and add you to the credits. >>70593691>>70593274The only issue I see is the multiple Tool boxes. More my fault than yours, I should have clarified each character gets one Tool, but it's heavily customizable. OP again. Like I said I intend to run a playtest starting on Febuary 1st from 11 AM UTC -6/US Central to 3-4 PM UTC-6/US Central depending on when players need it finished by via Roll20. For the first run, I'd rather we limit ourselves to the core rules rather than dipping into Variant rules. Six players total, which I understand is rather large but the usual size of a Toa Team is 6 (though there are instances of more such as the group of Toa that fought the Kanohii Dragon) so I found it fitting. If you're available and interested, my Discord is in the PDF at the end. Shoot me a friend invite if you're interested. First come, first serve, but if you can't make the first or it fills too quickly I'll fast-track you to the second. Feel free to playtest it yourselves with your groups like that other anon did and provide feedback as well.Since it's playtesting, expect a mix of needing to roleplay, use Elemental Powers, Mask Powers, and combat. Voice chat is preferred but I'm fine with text as long as you have a way to hear me speak such as speakers or a pair of headphones since that's how I'll be narrating. We'll be using Roll20, and for the full experience you'll need the Enhancement Suite which you can find in the ReadMe for the Roll20 ES sheets in the Dropbox. I'll be using its enhanced Jukebox feature to play music (mainly from the movie soundtracks) since you can upload it elsewhere and directly link it to the jukebox since Fanburst died.
>>70598466Other anon said he would*, I'm really off my game. Might just be mental burnout from pounding out this entire system in the span of a few days.

>>70599765Awesome, and thanks. I'm currently struggling to learn BrickLink studio to build bases for Toa/Turaga/Matoran. A lot of the heads just straight-up don't exist so I might have to get... creative.>>70599861Word 2010 or 2013.
>>70599974If you figure out anything, please let the rest of us know.
>>70601945There was a post on Reddit I found via google that had a link to the original Mata heads + all the Great/Noble kanohi from the first wave of Toa/Turaga. I had to makeshift the neck and a lot of really important parts (Metru forearms for example) just aren't there but you can import a lot of parts from existing sets so I've cobbled together... Something. I know a lot of purists aren't a fan of the Hero Factory/Constraction stuff but some of the armor is legit and can get some decent-looking stuff like pic related.
>>70602375>>70601945Goddamn, Studio 2.0 Renders look amazing. If you want something more traditional I thikn the only parts missing are the Metru torsos and forearms as well as a bunch of the weapons (but they might be there just in sets I didn't import). Definitely grab BrickLink Studio 2.0 if you're going to run this. Easy to use and great for character art. I recommend building as if they were lying down then rotating them vertical before posing though, I couldn't get parts to stack to a certain height.
>>70603517>>70602375Also currently have 3 people in for the Playtest on the 1st, room for 3 more.
>>70591053Will there be an option to play Hordika?
>>70604582I'm workshopping it at the moment, but as the system is it wouldn't be hard to work out if you wanted to be one from the get-go. Take the Toa statblock, remove the Mask Power and instead maybe pick from the Makuta statblock for the Rhotuka spinner if you don't want to brew anything yourself, otherwise make something up in terms of powers until I can pin down just how to make it work. I started with just mutation rules in general but I wasn't able to dig up much on what mutated Matoran are called if they existed at all (other than that one guy who allegedly fucked up the Red Star's sendback function). So to answer your question, yes officially eventually when I can figure out how to make it work and right now if you and your GM can workshop a statblock and how their abilities would work. Stats are literally as simple as setting the CP pool, Starting Cap, Ending Cap, and Area Cap, then deciding if that race can use Kanohi and/or Elemental powers at its core, and there's enough alternative powers (Makuta, Skakdi) that you could potentially use everything in the book to jury-rig a Hordika race.
>>70604686>>70604582To clarify, the thing I'm stuck on is CREATING Hordika from Toa and other playable races. If I limit it to Toa then it'll probably just be what I posted with a list of Rhotuka Spinner powers to pick from. I'm also not sure how to handle the venom itself. I'm thinking something like a more potent Poison Effect that, if it brings you to 0 Durability, mutates you but that's not super true to the source material. Of course, Toa of Plantlife would be immune to Hordika Venom naturally if I went that route as well.
>>70598466I'd have loved to join but the time doesn't work for me sorry. Good luck though!

>>70534274I have the same question for OP as I have for everyone who tries to make a Bionicle RPG: what is your intended scope? Bionicle is a very big, very complicated setting (especially once you start adding in stuff from the last arc and the old online stories), and I think in order to make a successful game out of this you need to have a very clear idea of what you are and aren't going to do with it. A toa-focused compaign and a matoran-focused campaign are probably going to have very different tones and will require different approaches; and that's to say nothing of shit like a dark hunters campaign, a brotherhood of makuta campaign, a spherus magna campaign, etc.
>>70615167>what is your intended scope? The G1 universe for background and lore, but the most I could see is a couple of islands like the Inika/Mahri. Still, it's not impossible to do something longer. I think location, time, and scale are something for the GM to consider when making a campaign, and while it's not built for something that spans an IRL decade, there are rules for scaling enemies with the party so that you could get away with something fairly long.>I think in order to make a successful game out of this you need to have a very clear idea of what you are and aren't going to do with it. The core idea of the system is to create something that's as modular as the pieces that make up a Bionicle set. You have the core rulebook, which has instructions and rules and numbers, but those numbers are easily adjustable to not only raise or lower power levels but also make new races. The power list is fairly comprehensive as is the Kanohi list, and if it isn't there you can use what is there as a guideline for balancing anything you brew up yourself. In the book, the "core" races - I suppose that would be the proper answer to your question - are Toa/Turaga/Matoran. Considering they are the stars of the bulk of Bionicle stories and focus of the toylines I believe they should take center stage. I provided optional rules for Makuta (including a new powerset based on the ones from canon), Skakdi (the piraka if you don't know, they have a smaller list of powers and abilities but those also give a frame of reference if you want to add new ones), Agori/Glatorian (don't get powers or masks but have highly customizable cybernetics), and "Titans" (Catch-all for stuff like Sidorak, Roodaka, The Shadowed One. What they get is up to the GM, added more for posterity and GM reference than player use) which GMs can use as a jumping-off point to design their own races/powers/masks. Summoners can fuck off though, that shit fucks turn orders.
>>70615167>>70615582>A toa-focused compaign and a matoran-focused campaign are probably going to have very different tones and will require different approachesPossibly, but the Toa Metru worked with matoran on some occasions, the Toa Nuva aiding Jaller and Takua on the Quest for the 7th Toa, and the Av-Matoran were fighting alongside the Toa Nuva in Karda Nui. Regardless, I tried to balance all the races around Toa and give every one of the ones I provide the ability to compete with Toa in some way. Matoran can't use elemental powers or Great Kanohi but they're great skill monkeys for example thanks to the highest starting CP. Of course, a GM can tweak all of these numbers to taste and they might change with playtesting.>Dark Hunters campaign>Brotherhood of Makuta campaignBoth easy to achieve given how modular the system is. Makuta have a statblock in the Variant Rules section and Brotherhood members could simply draw from the existing power/tool/cybernetic lists as the GM dictates. It's like building with actual Bionicle, you are given pieces and it's up to you to make something with them. You can build them as the book describes or customize them and rebuild them into something else and even leave pieces out you don't need or want.>Spherus MagnaThat one's the trickiest. Bara magna? Easy, I have variant rules for Glatorian/Agori; no powers, but they get super-customizable cybernetics. If you can think it up and your GM approves, you can have it (though I provide several examples for balance help). Spherus Magna? Things get... Tricky. Especially post-series; you have all these beings of various levels of power and ability running around. Biomechanical and organics. I suppose if there's one setting it isn't well-suited to, it's that.
>>70534274I think I vaguely remember seeing a Rahkshi thing for DnD, but I could never find it again. Anyone else have any ideas on where it could be?
>>70615582>The core idea of the system is to create something that's as modular as the pieces that make up a Bionicle setDon't get me wrong, I applaud your ambition, I just think it would be better to pick one thing to focus on and build the game around that rather than try and do everything and risk spreading yourself too thin (probably just different opinions on design).
>>70618182>I just think it would be better to pick one thing to focus on and build the game around that rather than try and do everything and risk spreading yourself too thinThat's fair. I think mechanically the main focus is Player Customization if that was what you were asking. I like systems that give players the absolute most customization possible, that gives them lots and lots of options for making their character, so I tried to do that here. If you mean narrative it's as I said - I think the GM and players should control the narrative and that the rules should be mechanical things that support the narrative. Either way it's fine if we disagree - that's the joy of tabletop gaming. If you don't like something just make something new or play a different system.
are there any plans to implement matoran/toa of Iron (Fe-matoran)?
>>70618534I found them to be too similar to Magnetism and Earth/Stone (and even the latter two are very similar, I included both mostly for posterity's sake), but it wouldn't be difficult to add them. Do you have any ideas what they should act like? What their powers should be? Their Toa/Turaga bonus? Their Matoran bonus? I think something along the lines of +1 armor against Melee Attacks would be a good bonus for a Toa/Turaga, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head for the Matoran Bonus (it's usually a +1 to a specific skill or Attribute in a specific situation). You'll notice that some masks are missing - mainly those involving summoning or that are similar to what's there. The former is because summoners cause bloat. it's why Reanimation is a high tier mask and is hard to maintain. The latter is because masks were too similar and got cut. I want players to have customization, but I want that customization to have meaning and crunch. Fe-matoran are very similar to Po/Onu/Magnetism matoran as I said so they ended up axed.
>>70618649I was thinking the Matoran of Iron would have a bonus for Technology; their connection to the element of iron/metal gives them a better understanding of machinery made of iron/metal.https://bionicle.fandom.com/wiki/Nynrah_GhostsThey might act very focused on their duty, to the point of being up-tight or cold (steely, get it?).
>>70619145Yeah, that works. I'll write something up and ship it off to the guy doing the reformatting of the document ASAP. I never really thought about them as the tech-focused element but it makes sense now that I think about it.
No new toys.
>>70619166The wiki article has some examples of their powers:https://bionicle.fandom.com/wiki/IronThey'd probably be a Rare matoran race, as their ability to manipulate any type of metal could be very powerful.
I am always angry about bonkles, but not in the way most anons would be.Everything beyond magical robots fighting ancient evil on a tropical island was a mistake, and even the first year has introduced shit that got carried though the entire run.At least G2 didn't last long enough as to accumulate similar amounts of TWEESTS.
>>70620004I liked Mata Nui in the 4th movie but that's about all I liked about anything after Mahri. Really should have just ended when Mataro gave his life to save Mata Nui.
>>70619956I'll look it over. I might limit it to non-living metal so they can't just twist other biomechanical beings apart even if it's Rare. Toa/Turaga will probably be +2 to skill checks relating to Metals, Matoran will be +1 to Technology checks involving machines made out of metal. Also a general post for the thread, I'm still looking for playtesters. Anyone know any music (with the exception of Cryoshell, obviously) that would fit a Bionicle campaign? Or is just fitting with Bionicle in general?
>>70640616The music from the movies and animations obviously, but anything with a grand orchestral feel and epic fantasy feel. Some of the music from Overlord's anime might fit, but general rule of thumb is lots of deep brass for a more "epic" feel and more percussion/ woodwinds for incidental/ambient music. Tribal is the best way I can explain it.

>>70663708If you're going to do a build, do it so that the figure starts "lying down". Once you finish, select all and rotate it 90 degrees to standing before you pose it. Get the stuff >>70615020 for the first wave of Kanohi (Toa Mata/ Turaga). If you try to pose it and the whole model gets selected, detacth that part at the joint, move it on its own, re-attach it. Attaching some parts at an angle is a nightmare (i.e. builds similar to Nidhiki's shoulders) so prepare to fiddle with that. Import as many sets as you can by going here and looking up set numbers:https://brickset.com/sets?query=bionicle
Ok. I made this guy without any plan whatsoever. He doesn't have any lore. What would his backstory be in your opinion?
>>70669089A dark hunter who was a petty thief who stole from the wrong guy - another hunter- but was brought on instead of being killed. He's a skilled assassin and thief and can cut space with his weapons, effectively moving the space that was there somewhere else. It doesn't work on objects, only empty air/space. Combined with his powerful legs, he always catches his target because no matter how fast they run he can close the distance with his space-warping abilities.

>>70670470>Does LDD have all the parts availableIt's missing a lot of the bionicle stuff, but I mostly use it for Mobile Frame Zero stuff and the built in library's fine for that.>the ability to import setsNo idea. >>70670573Ah that's a shame then, I'm going to keep using Studio because I can import almost all the parts from Bionicle/CCBS/Technic and I really only use it for this.
Someone posted a pack full of mask files, are there any other packs that add more bionicle parts for Studio?
>>70673139I couldn't find any, but you can find a lot of them if you import actual sets by going to file and clicking import then "from offical set" and entering the set number. Only really specific things like the Metru torsos/chest covers, Hordika feet/chestplate, specific weapons (though the original 6 Toa weapons are there as are the turaga ones if you import those sets), Piraka bodies, Inika chestplates and shoulders, and most of the masks (you can get a hau from the Stars Tahu or the link above) aren't there. You still have quite a lot to work with including the Inika torso and metru hips. If you know how, you could use the additional program that lets you make your own parts and rip the Metru torso/chestplate/forearms/masks from the Gmod files then make them into proper bricks.

God this thread is full of nostalgia. You've all got me looking up Kanohi names and Metru Kanoka powers again.Good memories of being a kid and wishing I could melt down the appropriate Kanoka disks and pour them into mask molds so I could be as cool as the mask-crafting Vakama when he was a matoran.I always regretted missing out on the 2001 Turaga sets - I only had the Toa Mata, Maku as a McToran, and the Nui Jaga set. This discussion has inspired me to go on Bricklink and order all of the parts, individually, for Turaga Onewa. At about $6 total post-shipping, I can't say I regret a thing.
i think the Dark Hunters campaign would be the best idea.Just think about it.You can be whatever race or character class you want, in lore we had Toa (Nidhiki, Savage, Spinner) mutated Matorans (Subterranean, Firedracax, Phantom) Steltians (Krekka, Gladiator, Sidorak wanted to join too but got BTFO) Vortixx (Roodaka acted as a DH spy) Skakdi (Piraka) TSO species (Conjurer, Tyrant, Ancient) even fucking Rahi like Hordika Dragons. Also not everyone there was of some evil aligment, many were social outcasts or frowned upon just because they got mutated like Phantom or Subterranean, Mimic just wanted his waifu back and Ancient was also in the good guys organization. It could be a very diverse and interesting playthrough, not lore breaking in any way and easy to arrange without any mental gymnastics.
>>70686549I have to agree. They have much more options when it comes to powers, looks and backstories. The guy I made >>70669089 doesn't fit any known race in the lore. >>70669160 sugested for him to be a Dark hunter and all the problems dissapeared. One problem might be that Dark hunters are so diverse that every single one of them might aswell be his own seperate race. And this might make character creation somewhat more difficult. Maybe a bodyplan based system might work.So for example there would be a health boost from large size or a speed boost from leg structure. Or maybe the proffesion and equipment would determine the abilities and stats. Or even maybe a little of both.
>>70688751Personally, I think some kind of tiered system might work. At least to draw a distinction from characters a Toa can handle one-on-one versus someone it would take an entire team to beat.If there was a more diverse array of traits you could pick and choose from worth a certain amount of points, then that might be a good solution.
>>70688867>>70688751It's mentioned things like Tool Components and Cybernetics are just suggestions and that you can and should come up with your own unique ones. The reason I limited cybernetics to Agori/Glatorian was because without them they have literally nothing unique going for them as a race. It's not impossible or even really that gamebreaking to let other characters use them, but a lot of the recommended ones were made with Agori/Glatorian in mind so it might lead to somewhat stronger characters. Still, I think making them a general variant rule and throwing in a line that says "This section is generally meant for Agori and Glatorian, but can be applied to other characters but as a GM be wary of what you allow your players to use as it can make them exceptionally powerful if they are something like a toa".>One problem might be that Dark hunters are so diverse that every single one of them might aswell be his own seperate race. And this might make character creation somewhat more difficult. Maybe a bodyplan based system might work. So for example there would be a health boost from large size or a speed boost from leg structure. Or maybe the profession and equipment would determine the abilities and stats. Or even maybe a little of both. That's an interesting approach and I'll look into it. I figured that it would be easier for GMs and players to work together to decide on that sort of thing using the frameworks given (Cybernetics, Tool Components, other racial powers) since I really don't want to create some sort of class system and the race system is extremely malleable as the book states multiple times. If you don't like something, change the numbers.
>>70689320>>70688867>>70688751>>70686549I changed the Cybernetics into Body Modifications (though the ones listed ARE JUST EXAMPLES AND YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME UP WITH YOUR OWN as it's meant to be highly customizable as an aspect) as a general Variant Rule. Gave an idea of what the costs of certain abilities for Titans should be. Added a section briefly touching on Rahi - though those are more meant for GM use, you could have something like Takua's pet Ussal as a player if the GM allowed it. Reorganized how some things appear in the book; the Character Creation section is now Atrributes > Skills > Virtues > Terrors > Derived Stats > Size and Movement > Tools > Elemental Powers > Kanohi Masks. https://www.dropbox.com/s/w0d3c3ok42nh27i/Bionicle_Masks_Of_Destiny_v1.1.pdf?dl=0
