Hey all. It's around All Souls Day time again for us in the PH, which means we have short breaks and long weekends. Last year I made a similar post around the same time, wherein I made a Pre-Colonial Filipino setting (or was it Spanish Filipino? I forget). That has since become a Filipino RPG named Karanduun, which I sold a bit of locally.I've always been more of a Sci-Fi kid when I was younger. I loved aliens and conspiracies. So (after playing a session of LANCER) I decided that, hey, I can resurrect my Sci-Fi, Space Opera tendencies and make a space-fantasy setting with Mechs in it, like LANCER. Enter MAHARLIKA: a Mech RPG with a foundation on Filipino Myth, History, and Culture. Currently I'm trying to finish the Revised version of the Filipino release done, and then I'll be shitting out the definitive revised edition: a Bilingual Core rulebook (with English rules on the right side, and Filipino on the left.)Anyway, translating it has been a lonely ideal, mostly because ironically, reading "technical" books in the National Language of the Philippines isn't really a thing (thanks to an English instructional language). It didn't sell very well either locally mostly because the middle-class to the upper class educated folk in the Metro Manila area are more experienced in consuming English shit. They would look at the cool cover art, pick it up, and then their eyes would suddenly glaze over the words when they realize that it's written in Filipino. And so I'll be gradually uploading things as I translate them into English over here, for free, with some art along the way, because I like doing it anonymously. That's right, the whole shebang, albeit with shit layout. Maybe some anons would read it and find it cool, or be interested in a game, or whatever. First pdf in the next post
why /tg/? well, other than my friend group whom I play with who aren't to keen on reading anything and/or are too busy, /tg/ is the only other place I have RPG conversations with. While I like the local scene in the PH, most of my friends are "designers" as well, who have too many things going on in their lives as well. we're all too busy trying not to die while still being able to play make believeanyway, /tg/ has been my cradle for RPG stuff for... 7 years now? thanks to the archive, i've managed to get ahold a lot of rpg shit, ran a shitton of games, and played even more. i'll get into "inspirations" of the game in the next post
>>69109695Oh, I remember Karanduun. I was just thinking about that recently. It's really good. I look forward to seeing you tackle a sci-fi mecha setting.
The main inspirations for MAHARLIKA were quite a bit: Mobile Suit Gundam, VOTOMS, Zone of the Enders, Perdido Street Station, Star Wars, Pacific Rim, Hannu Rajaniemi's The Quantum Thief, Titanfall, Destiny, and Jupiter Ascending all had distinct science fantasy aesthetics that I absolutely loved and went into the creation of the setting at large. In the end, I wanted to create a gritty science fantasy setting. But the thing that really kickstarted my imagination for the Mechs (as I've been developing a sort of Filipino Space Opera setting already) was a design made by a Filipino Artist named Jap Mikel, who was also into Mechs, and created a bunch of drawings that was basically: what if Philippine Ironwood and mangrove were possessed by spirits and then became pilotable? Thus MAHARLIKA, wherein I took that to the extreme, made an entire technofantasy ore that made the creation of ironwood mechs possible, and then inhabited them with "Diwata", think Filipino Kami, as Kami is the closest thing to describe them.Check out some of the Art for the project, featuring a KOMSA Mech frame (in this setting called Baluti, which is Visayan for Armor): the KOMSA EKLIPSE.I made the setting around the mechs: how to justify that ironwood sheen, the spirit world-as-internet, the superiority of mechs over other weapons, the existence of giant alien colonizers, the works.>>69109899Damn, I never thought people would still remember. Thanks Anon! You can read almost all of the (eventually) translated text of the game by following this thread.I'll talk either about the mechanics or the lore next
>>69109695thanks anon, this looks really cool! do you think you can upload the tagalog version too? I want to tease someone a bit
For the lore part, I chose to set it in a "Galaxy Far Far Away", a la Star Wars, although there might be some nods here and there to our own Solar System. I went full on Science Fantasy, techgnostic, and cyber-animist here: the "Internet" is built upon the Spiritual World, called "Diwa". (which kinda means Essence in Filipino) The Diwa is what you would get if you mixed Quantum physics with the Force: it exists within everything, and within it is also the energy of possibility, known as "Gahum".There are four main corporations in the setting, each one relating to an existing political or corporate entity in the PH, and each one manufacturing their own line of BalutiSD-SK is "Sandatang Sangkatauhan", or Weapon of Mankind? Or Human Weapon? Something like that. They're guardians, protectors, sentinels, but also filled with that weird military fascism and trigger-happiness of current Philippine Police and MilitaryKLL is "Korporasyon ng Libong Linti" which means Thousand Lightnings Corporation. They're the technochurch. What you would get if you mixed an electricity company with the Catholic Church. They have a monopoly over both energy and religion.GHW-S is "Ginhawa-Sibol", which means "Relief-Sprout or Blossom", a joining of the Ginhawa Union and the Sibol Farmers Association, they're basically maoists/communists that more or less provide work for the working class and the food supply for the Galaxy. The KOMSA is "Korporasyon ng Sapotspiritung Komunikasyon", which means Spiritweb Communications Corporation. Spiritweb is what they call the Lambat (the Spiritnet) within their corpo-state. They're what you get if you mixed all the service providers into a monolithic, technoninja corporation with control over the Internet and BitcoinPictured: a sketch of the iconic SD-SK BAGANI Baluti, which can also be found in the cover>>69110253the filipino pdf? sure! it's currently a beta manuscript right now, so expect weird wordings, but it's playable more or less
Do you have Bakunawa
>>69110757they exist as basically space leviathans, yes. there's even a subversive, totally not the enemy Corp named Bakunawa Armasan (Bakunawa Armory) that use alien bio parts for their mechs
Looks like a hell of a game, consider me interested. What makes it mechanically unique from/better than other mech systems?
>>69110831Space leviathans and biomechanical mecha? Sign me up.
>>69109695At work right now but this looks rad, good stuff Anon.
>>69110880Phoneposting rn so I can't get into specifics but I don't think it has anything that makes it "better" than anything, just different:I stole some of LANCER's Pilot/Mecha split. Pilot gameplay is more... "narrative", wherein I take pages from Blades in the Dark and PbtA. I once described the split as Persona x Mecha, since one big thing pilotside is the existence of a Social System that can get you benefits while in MissionsOh yeah, gameplay is split into three "phases": Missions, Trading, and Fiesta, whwrein you roll out on Missions, Trade equipment and gain equipment, and then "get paid" if it were, find or strengthen relationships, and then eventually find another MissionThere are no XP or Level, progression is purely doing Missions to lower your Debt so that you can buy more stuff which you can then use in more Missions. Missions last 1 or more sessions, can take place within entire solar systems, etc. Kinda like the whole of The 08th MS TeamMech combat is measured in Rounds, Initiative every round to see whose side goes first, then declaration of actions. There are 4e style (end of Turn etc.) effects but they're tied instead to start of round or end of round. some weapons like missiles only hit at the end of a round, letting shooting the missiles down a viable defensemech customization is three way: "Kalagyo" (spirit AI) that dictate your Role, "Baluti" (Mech Frame) that dictate traits, HP, etc. and then the AGIMAT which are your weapons (Violence AGIMAT), movement systems (Movement AGIMAT), reaction/protocols (Reaction AGIMAT), and Support/Utility (Support AGIMAT) systems (lifted from FFT)Each mech Baluti has an array of AGIMAT that comes with their loadout. you can mix and match from their. currently the core has 16 mechs, all with 7 AGIMAT each to mix and match, creating your own Mech (no License levels like in LANCER). new ones coming as well
>>69110423The mecha is nice, but the axe is awesome.
>>69109695>>69109729>>69110040>>69110423Thanks for sharing
im absolutely down for this
>>69111126>>69110880Getting a bit more into the nitty gritty of things (as this is also the portion which I am translating rn):Combat is heavily inspired by D&D 4e, adopting a bit of Strike! 's innovations: flat damage, AGIMAT that can give more damage according to situations, less bloated numbers, faster turns, and more emphasis on combat movement on a grid. Difficult terrain, forced movement, and Flanking are all important components. Flanking especially, as it grants Suwerte.Suwerte and Malas both essentially translate to Fortune and Misfortune, they're Filipinized Spanish words. Suwerte and Malas are basically stackable advantage/disadvantage from 5e. So if you had +2 Suwerte, for example, and you rolled an attack. It would be 1d20 + 2d20 (1d20 per each Suwerte). Roll all of them together and keep the highest result, adding modifiers after. Same thing with Malas. I made it so a lot of Suwerte and Malas come from battlefield modifiers: heavy smoke, obscuring terrain, simple and superior cover, all grant Suwerte and Malas. Of course, a lot of these modifiers also come from AGIMAT that you have equipped. Suwerte and Malas also apply to Maharlika-level gameplay (that is, Pilot gameplay) wherein in place of 1d20s, you use 1d10s.Pictured is the KOMSA baluti: RELOHERO, the Watchmaker, Time Sentinel, Causation Manipulator, Unspeaking Preacher of the Non-Causal Diwa and the No Name God
>>69112301Another before I rest:Also forgot that there was a Corruption Mechanic called "Pagsasapi". "Sapi" is basically possession (and the word is usually denoted to be 'demonic possession') and it's just that: You see, to pilot a [Meka]nisadong Sandata (Mechanized Weapon) of the NEO variety, which are what the Maharlika are licensed to pilot, you need a Diwata living in your brain, wherein it becomes your Kalagyo (coming from Lagyo, meaning something like consciousness, so Kalagyo kinda means "shared consciousness") and basically a personal AI assistant, and it powers, activates, and then controls the Meka's systems for you while you pilot it. The catch is, the Kalagyo is still a Diwata, a hyper-intelligent fey god-being of nature: the ritual used to bind it to you won't hold forever. Nothing in Nature holds forever. And so the Kalagyo slowly slips back into its base Diwata form, even with you and the Meka as its devil idol, it still returns to its truth. That's why every standard month, the Ritual of Chaining is required, and must be performed by a katalonan (shaman or spirit medium) to make sure the Diwata stays a Kalagyo."Hacking" in the game is termed "Spiritual Warfare", as you are basically contending with the Kalagyo of your enemy. On successful Spiritual attacks, you can cause a variety of effects, according to the AGIMAT you used, and usually they do Fraying (Tastas in the original Filipino version). Fraying is a spiritual phenomenon where the connection made by the ritual of Chaining between the Maharlika and the Kalagyo is forcibly removed, thus reducing the Diwata's (and the Meka's) reserve power sources, called Reserve Gahum (which can only be used by the Diwata, as it comes from the Diwata itself). Once you reach 0 RG and suffer more Fraying, those points of damage become Pagsasapi Points. Once you reach a certain threshold, the Diwata take over you completely, and the Arbiter (or the GM of the game) gains control of the character.
>>69112301Grid-required, I imagine?
>>69112482correct, although I might add some sort of option for non grid based combat later down the line
>>69109695Always cool to see stuff from beyond my normal horizon of shit I consume. I'll give it a read.
>>69109695Filipino anon, I'm a dude from the worldbuilding thread. Are there any english resources regarding filipino culture/mythology/folklore you might want to share?Thank you for your attention.PS: great project! I wish you the best!
>>69112558Might be nice, grid combat pushed me away from Lancer. You've got something good here.
Good content OP. Please keep it up.
>>69110423>Catholic Church as your utility companyhow many hail marys to get my bill reduced? In all seriousness, are they at least not an Evil Church like usual?
>>69109695>>69109729Any chargen advice?
>>69109695Thanks for your work on this. I first heard about it a month ago, during the last big mecha RPG general, and it sounded interesting just from the translated bits. I'll keep an eye out for the bilingual release.
Just when I thought /tg/ was lost.
>>69112931Not OP, but I found the voluminous works of Damiana Eugenio, especially her "The Epics", to be quite useful in finding unique and prospective Philippine lore to use in my campaigns.
damn you guys, thanks for keeping this thread floating. i'll be releasing the next batch of translated text in a few hours (tonight in my time)>>69112931Fortunately for you, most of our academic recordings of such texts are written in English! Since English is the language of the academe here: Damiana Eugenio's PH Folklore series is great, as well as Barangay and Looking for the Pre-Colonial Filipino by William Henry Scott. Stuff by Maximo Ramos is good as well. For surface level stuff, I recommend sifting through the Aswang Project and Kapit-Bisig (https://www.kapitbisig.com/philippines) and the Ateneo Philippine Epics and Ballads ArchiveAs for culture that's a bit trickier, but stuff from Nick Joaquin would be good. Modern Filipino Culture is very diffferent, a culture with a very globalized/americanized skin>>69114934It isn't, this time, fortunately, although like I said each of the Megacorps are like coins, with goods and bads to them>>69117648Not sure, I just tell players that I run this for to think of Space Fantasy tropes: sons of lords, farmer boys, communist rebels. Chargen for Maharlika side is similar to Godbound with the Facts system, and Ex3 with the Treasures system (which is pretty similar to the Intimacies system)>>69118063Yea, I think one of my playtest players shared it over there, which was nice.
>>69119904Just adding on the culture part. For prehistoric ones, I'd suggest Filipino Prehistory: Rediscovering Precolonial Heritage by F. Landa Jocano. For the colonial period, you might want to look at Jose Rizal's two novels and the Blair and Robertson volumes, it can be a good introduction to Hispanic Philippines. Post-hispanic, japanese-american occupation period, you can look at F. Sionil Jose's works among many.
>>69110831and the minokawa?
>>69120495space bird-dragons that eat suns bc they can only sustain themselves through the Energy of Possibility known as Gahum. they burn with the intensity of a thousand suns, and some have even developed entire star systems around them
its kinda funny how the minokawa and bakunawa sound and feel similar yet actually unrelated to each other
>>69109729Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to reading it.
>>69123375they're both causes of eclipse yeah, but they're from two different ethnic groups within the Philippines
>>69109695Don't think I don't see that fucking Bepis in the bottom left
>>69124381yeah but is minokawa usually depicted eating the sun and bakunawa eating the moon so thats cool
>>69109695This sounds fantastic, and reminds me of better days when /tg/ made things. Great job, OP.
>>69124434those pepsi tray things are everywhere here esp suburban areas. it's where we put all the beer bottles
>>69118249>>69124525thanks for the kind words bois, I've got more posters here than I expectedhave some Meka art while I'm getting back home.
Heading off to work myself now. Am very interested in reading this when I get back so I hope this one good thread doesn't get buried under shit.Good job OP, this looks cool.
OP this looks cool as hell, looking forward to reading it through.
sorry to keep everyone waiting, but here is the the second document, which translates most mech rules all the way until AGIMAT tags. the next few docs will probably what you guys want: corporation and AGIMAT and mech balutiquery: would you guys rather I share pdfs with each of the Corporations + their Baluti/mech frames as separate docs, or just upload them all together?thanks for keeping this afloat, /tg/. have some halo-halo>>69111880>>69113604>>69123774>>69126493>>69127106maraming salamat, you guys! i honestly didn't think we'd last longer than a day, so that's comfy
>>69128416>query: would you guys rather I share pdfs with each of the Corporations + their Baluti/mech frames as separate docs, or just upload them all together?Whichever is easiest for you to work with, I don't have a real preference.
>>69128447I think the separate corporation thing works better so I can take breaks in between as well as give you guys contentgonna go rest now. will upload the SD-SK the next day
>>69119904 Anyone else have any chargen advice? How did you make that image?>>69120245Do you have any other sources on the Philippines, ancient or modern, please?
Reading these words made me realize that my tagalog is at an elementary school level.
>>69132393OP here, that image is drawn by the artist for the book!>Do you have any other sources on the Philippines, ancient or modern, please?A good link would be the Boxer Codex, which is sold over here published by VIbal, although I'm not sure where you can get a copy of it anywhere else. I've been doing lots of study on pre-colonial stuff.William Henry Scott's Barangay, the Boxer Codex, and Damiania Eugenio's Folk Literature series were big sources of inspiration for me, especially the Epics and the Myths. For modern Filipino and Epics I suggest reading Ibong Adarna and Florante at Laura, two of the more modern Filipino epic poetry written during the Spanish Era.Vibal Foundation over here in the Ph publishes a lot of cool stuff. They have huge books about the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade (which I don't have yet, because of money), a series about how Chinese/Islam/Spanish culture influenced the Philippines, a book about Philippine Cartography, and my personal favorite: the book that features an extensive research about the Anting-Anting and the Filipino Folk Catholicism and the Mysticism that went with it (which has influenced my setting at large as well.) I'm sure they ship overseas, though. For Vibal (they also sell a Spanish & English version of the Boxer Codex): https://shop.vibalgroup.comHolding down copies of Barangay is a bit trickier, as it's published by a University Publisher over here, but I'm sure you can find some in Amazon or something. It should be well noted that Project Gutenburg also has a huge repository for Philippine books, which is great. One of the ones I used alot is Mabel Cook Cole's Philippine Folktales: (https://www.gutenberg.org/files/12814/12814-h/12814-h.htm)For a more in depth look into Folklore, (and one from a Filipino's perspective) I recommend El Folklore Filipino by Isabelo de los Reyes... which I can't seem to find online, although it is published by UP Press over here.
>>69132393For more of the Colonial Period, what anon said above is the most of it: the two Jose Rizal books are seminal Filipino works. The tail end of the revolution was also "documented" by Emilio Aguinaldo in what he called the True Version of the Philippine Revolution: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/12996>>69135352To be fair, a lot of Filipinos don't raise their Filipino above high school level, and most of it stays at a conversational level due to Filipino not being intelligized and being replaced with English in the academe (you'll see that even the Government works at an English level, creating a huge disconnect between the masses who aren't educated or are good at English despite education [due to the education being shit] and the Government who in all honesty are just a bunch of matapobre crooks right now). However, the PH is young, so with a new wave of nationalists, I think we'll get there eventually. It's kinda funny that our version of Boomers here in the PH (at least, the richer ones) are a bunch of old people with crippling Colonial Mentality so that they think speaking English is a hallmark of intelligence and prestige.
>>69110253Sorry this took so long, but here's the pdf of the Filipino version for the anon that wanted it. I'll be back in a few hours with the next batch of translated text.
>>69116057the art is being drawn by a friend of mine, who offered to get on board with the project and we just share revenue instead of commissions. it's working out swell so far. here's a wip he's doing of the KOMSA RELOHERO with the Meteor Gun AGIMAT
>>69137658Oh, very nice. There's always just that certain something about a mecha decorated with cloth.
>>69109695Looks interesting, I can see some overlaps with some Indonesian mythology, and now I have these ideas about a mecha setting based in SEA. Something something Kurawa clone uprising.
>>69139799greetings, indonesian kapatid (TN: that means something like sibling, when used in that manner can mean "greetings, brother!"). yea, PH and Indonesia do share a lot of similarities especially in the folkloreA Mecha setting based on SEA sounds interesting. I personally began this project because of the idea that the "Sea" was Outer Space, the "Islands" were the planets, and the "Archipelago" was the galaxy of the Philippine islands and all that stuff. >>69138022Mecha decorated with cloth is the best. It's why I loved Escaflowne's designs
>>69139829I can see an alternate setting where the Archipelago galaxy is divided into sectors. So the Lakanate has spread throughout its sector, while the neighboring one could be where the Medangkamulan Kingdom is spreading their influence, while the Wor Asmat warlords and the Apokayan guerilla tribes, among other numerous territories squabble among each other. Then there is the Khmer Champa sector, where another threat looms - the Kurawa clone uprising.I am spitballing it a lot here, but I can see something's there.
>>69140017honestly that sounds really rad. I was planning on something like that: as beyond the Arkipelago, they find other galaxies that harbor sentient life, and then I would base those galactic civilizations on the surrounding nations of the Philippines: an Indonesian one, a Japanese inspired one, etc. etc.Of course, one of the major antagonists within the MAHARLIKA's "metaplot" are going to be draconic Chinese expies that seek to colonize the galaxy for its abundant natural resources
>>69109695>FilipinoPass. The only thing you “people” are good for is cheap labor and cheap prostitutes.
Finally translated this: attached is the last part before we get into each of the four Megacorps. It details the Lakanate Systems (the sort of, 'generic' AGIMAT) which give AGIMAT for use of any Meka. This is going to be the first look into how AGIMAT are structured, basically.Next up is going to be the SD-SK doc.>>69140104i mean, you're not entirely wrong. nice bait tho.
>>69140092Yea, that could work. Also don't forget the Indian and Islamic spheres of influence, those are pretty major influencers in SEA culture as well.I see that the sphere of influences as neighboring galaxies or ancient powerful but fallen empires, whose cultural influence outlasted them. So you can have ancient Vimana mechs powered by mercury being unearthed in a digsite and then being reverse-engineered. Or how a sleeping dragon awoke to disastrous results on a planet.
>>69112301>adopting a bit of Strike! 's innovationsDOWNLOADING NOW
>>69140129There's still more?
>>69140223I got the Indian and Islamic thing yes, but that idea of having actual ancient mechs with those kinds of cultures and cultural aesthetic is absolutely perfect. Will have to include those in lore supplements. so good>>69140610Yeah, we're almost halfway through the original Filipino text. a major chunk of the book is, predictably, the mechs

Is Filipino myth clone of some aspect Malaysian and Indonesian myth? Why not integrate with Spanish myths?
>>69170314When I say Filipino Myth I mean it from precolonial to postcolonial times, so this includes the syncretized myths from Catholicism, the myths during American time, and even the myths borne from World War 2 (lots of new Urban Legends rose from then)
>>69170314Not really clone, but does share some similarities since y'know, same geocultural area and shit. But when you really look into it, it's really different.Bit like a Malay language speaker and an Indonesian language speaker - they sound and look the same, and they might be able to do simple conversations with each other, but soon enough you hit the snags - similar words with different meanings, different words with the same meanings, idioms, etc etc.
>>69172447yes indonesian anon got it down. not really a clone, just similarities due to proximity (and the whole Majapahit having a wide reach, as well as a lot of Islam traders coming from Malay/Indonesian regions)I usually think that at least aesthetic wise, Filipino diverged from SEA similarities with the Spanish colonization. instead of temples we had cathedrals. instead of buddhist statues we had catholic saints, etc. that whole syncretism is the huge main aesthetic of MAHARLIKA as well
Happy Araw ng mga Patay (Day of the Dead, despite it also being the All Saints' Day)Since I was free for most of the day, here's the GHW-S translated. Beneficiary Drones.* YNAGUIGUINID - POOT Unit Intense Berserk Grappler. All Weapons Frame.* HALIYA - Half-worlder, Spiritwalker Warrior Frame. Ginunting of Half-Worlds.the GHW-S have the notable naming convention of naming their baluti after pre-colonial/indigenous filipino gods>>69165992that supplement is going to focus more on the pilots, giving more lore about the setting, more tables, new enemies, and of course, more baluti stuff.thinking of releasing one new baluti for each of the four corporations, and then 2 new Baluti for the Bakunawa Armasan (the biomech ones) and then perhaps if i can fit it in, 2 Baluti for a new Corporation (currently thinking of making it something that references /tg/ somehow. Currently thinking of naming it "Tonyo-Gabriel", otherwise known as [TG], which focus on making Baluti that are weird caricatures of fantasy heroes? A baltui named the TG MARTIAL, or the TG WIZARD, smth like that. If you guys have any ideas, they're welcome.)
>>69174345>2 Baluti for a new Corporation (currently thinking of making it something that references /tg/ somehow. Currently thinking of naming it "Tonyo-Gabriel", otherwise known as [TG], which focus on making Baluti that are weird caricatures of fantasy heroes? A baltui named the TG MARTIAL, or the TG WIZARD, smth like that. If you guys have any ideas, they're welcome.)Maybe you could say it is a corporation known for producing toys and games, just now entering in the Baluti market. Like if GW suddenly started to also produce military materiel. The TG Martial could have a large thunder warhammer (which might or might not release over 40.000 volts on impact) and a gyrojet gun (perhaps called bolter).
>>69174444If it isn't obvious, this corporation is producing baluti based on its own toys and games.Perhaps, instead of the second being based on a wizard, it could be based on dragons... Is there space for transformable Balutis? Or perhaps just give it a plasma flamethrower breath, claws and wings. You could mention that a sort of dragon diwata powers it.
>>69174345Bless ye for the mechanized bounty. For the TG Corp, here's some Baluti ideas:>TG ELFSLAV - mass-produced laborer light Baluti. Had very low price but also very low stats, the only thing going for it is its long-lasting production. So much of these Baluti were made that people are starting to run out of utilities for them, thus the perpetual question of 'ELFSLAV wat do?' on Lambat forums.>TG MARTIAL - assault Baluti, curiously designed to get into melee range without any ranged options whatsoever. Its preset weaponry include an electric warhammer and an upsized chainsaw in sword configuration. No one really knows why its pauldrons are that big.>TG CASTER - This Baluti takes the opposite design philosophy from the MARTIAL. Specced to be a glass cannon, it is equipped with multiple MAGIC missile systems and FIREBALL bazooka. It is also shipped with many optional support/supernatural defense systems, such as the CANTRIP multipurpose hacking package, SCRY radar system and XPLOSIVERUNE mine layer. They are about as popular as the TG MARTIAL, and thus there are also plenty of 'MARTIAL vs CASTER' arguments on Lambat forums.>TG CAMEL - A quadruped Baluti that could be retrofitted with nigh any equipment, it was thought that its production was ceased long ago. But some swear a wandering eccentric Baluti dealer named Hassan still sells fully customized CAMELs for his patrons.>TG TROGDOR - A Baluti specced for aerial combat, it sports an inbuilt BURNINATOR flamethrower and specially made fireproof armor.
>>69174479transformable baluti is definitely in the design space, yes, thanks to each Baluti having a Traits to make each Baluti unique more or less>>69174444I like the idea of a toy and game corporation getting into the the Meka Manufacturing business. like, what if a Gunpla manufacturer started making their own gundamthunder warhammer releasing 40,000 volts on impact is perfect>>69174557the TG MARTIAL and TG CASTER are definitely what I was looking for when i started thinking of TG BalutiI like the idea of the TG corp also being a huge thorn on the side of the KOMSA corp. gonna think into narrative ideas for that
>>69174557>So much of these Baluti were made that people are starting to run out of utilities for themPerhaps the special trait of the ELFSLAV is that, due to how incredibly common it is, repairs and replacements are much easier to come by. You can always find spare parts. This makes it especially popular with guerillas and minor factions.
>>69110040What exactly do you like about science fantasy?
>>69178327How do you even come up with these names, OP? Any other documents incoming, BTW?
>>69180921>>69182238honestly, i just shop around for cool filipino words, but i have naming conventions for each corpo.
>>69180921OP? You there?
>>69183614>>69180921half awakeand yes, you have one more corp eng trans coming, and then the last two portions of the pdf: the enemy's section and the GM advice section!can't believe i translated the entire thing
>>69180921Just to be clear, I'm not OP, I was just trying to add onto someone else's idea.As I'm reading through the translated stuff, I find myself liking the idea of flat damage as the default. I will have to get my group to run a combat or two and see how we like it. Maybe we'll incorporate it into more of our games.
>>69184007It originally was rolled damage, but then I decided to keep it at Flat Damage for faster resolution as well as more predictable combat cycles. I made it so that enemies fall after 3-4 confirmed hits. Additional sources of damage come from individual AGIMAT. it was also smth i stole from Strike!
>>69132393Most of the recommended readings are already mentioned by OP and some (>>69136445 and >>69136568). But if you're interested in going deeper with Philippine Culture, you can read more of F. Landa Jocano's works such as: (1) Filipino Value System, which can be used as a reference point in creating moral compasses; (2) Filipino Social Organization and (3) Folk Medicine in a Philippine Municipality, which can be used to create medical systems based on indigenous knowledge.Another work that I know, but have not had the time to read yet is Lars Ubaldo's Mun-udi; the work highlights the Ifugao Blacksmith tradition. Though it might be difficult for a non-Tagalog speaker to read since it's entirely written in Technical Tagalog. On modern history, in addition to what's mentioned prior, it would be a great resource to read Constantino's two works: "The Philippines: A Past Revisited" and "The Philippines: A Continuing Past".
>>69174345Baluti, hehe. Nice work OP.>>69180921I'm not OP, but really nice tagalog words can be looked up on Calderon's 1911 Diccionario Ingles-Espanyol-Tagalog:https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/20738
>>69184870I haven't heard of Lars Ubaldo's Mun-udi, that's fucking cool. Gonna have to hunt a copy down. Thanks based filipino readings anon>>69178327i like this idea. i might release a standalone pdf for the TG Corp
>>69183957Thanks! So, once that's all posted, it's all in English now?
>>69187074Yes, more or less. I'll post a complete English pdf once I finish translating all of them
>>69187249I'll try and keep the thread alive until then.
>>69183602The SD-SK have naming conventions according to old Tagalog/Visayan work names, such as Mangangaso (Hunter) BAGANI (Warrior) etc.The KLL are named after important Spanish/Catholic figures/Saints in PH History, like SAN LAZARO (original name of the PH), MAGALLANES (That's Magellan), and LEGASPI (from the conqueror, Legaspi)The GHW-S are named after old Filipino deitiesThe KOMSA are named after subversive scientific/spiritual people in PH History, like SALAMANGKERO, KAPNAYANERO, ETC.

>>69109695Ever notice how nobody makes a white rpg black rpg or any other race toting rpg???? The absolute state of dog shit flipsWe here tuuuu!
>>69209132good ideas, based indonesian anonand yeah, I'll put up a starting greentext before having to go to bed.firstly, a few changes i'll be making to the game as a whole from the feedback i recieved:gonna be replacing Facts with a sort of grounded-in-the-setting lifepath type of thing, with the Treasures being the things defined by the playermech combat seemed to be good, although phase-tracking is suggested. they enjoyed the mech combat as well as the mech customization, which is great.as for the game, we had three players (should be noted that we're playing the Filipino version of this)One player was Laurel, from KOMSA, a son of a rich Maginoo (think, noble) turned thief, who wants to make money to support his home planet. Laurel pilots "Kamunduan", a KOMSA RELOHERO baluti mech focused on dealing damage and weakening the enemy, and applying conditionsAnother played Mina, from KLL a scion of an old planetary currency printing business which went bankrupt after their planet adopted Diwanite (think, spiritual nanites) as currency. Now he wants to dismantle the Diwanite system. He pilots "Kubrador" a SD-SK PINUNO baluti mech focused on affording support with battlefield controlLast one played as Bernabe, from KLL, an old war veteran who survived the First Corporation War, and now seeks to help more war survivors and protect others from war. He pilots "Enkidu", a GHW-S YNAGUIGUINID baluti mech that is all in on boosting straight up to the enemy's face and then smashing them in with knuckle dusters>the three of them start off in a salimbal (in Filipino Epic Myth, salimbal are airships. in the setting they're starships) owned by the KLL Maginoo Berna Olvido, the woman with no face, who gives them their mission: an important cathedral is being attacked by tulisanes (bandits). They're tasked with two objectives: protecting the cathedral and putting the blame of the bandit attack to GHW-S, who have been a thorn on their side.
>>69210199>they arrive safely at the city of Zazuela, within the planet of Redukthyon. They immediately hop off to action>before the mission began they chose to get two Assets, both some sort of Contact>Mina immediately took the opportunity to tell the contact he had to help him spread the rumor that the bandits were under GHW-S>they are then invited to the mayor's office in the city hall. there they discuss the tulisan attacks>they find out that some of their citizens have even joined the tulisan forces>they find out that the Mayor, Mayor Aisha's, previous assistant (Lisa) was one of the people that joined the tulisan side>they manage to persuade the Mayor to let them investigate Lisa's living quarters, which was inside the Mayor's house, on the condition that they do not, under any circumstance, enter the master bedroom>there they find out that Lisa was really into computers, as she had a stack of laptops on a desk>they also find out she's only, like, 16, and there are rumors that the mayor and her are romantically involved>They open each laptop on the stack, until they find one that has a wallpaper of both her and the Mayor together, and there was a single folder filled with 57 text files within it. >they scanned three with the following phrases/words>Seventh-day>2400>MEORMAM MEORMAM MACMACITUM MEORMAM>weird. the Mayor's maid then implore the help of the maharlika to haul those laptops to the mayor, as that was what Lisa asked them to do before she disappeared>Mina and Bernabe head back to the City Hall to help. there they ask a few more futile questions, before Bernabe, probably frustrated that they're going nowhere, says the words they found on the text files: MEORMAM etc.>that solicits a glassy eyed response, and suddenly the proclamations of "who are you? what am i doing here?" by the mayor and the two maids>just as Laurel trips the alarm
>>69210339>Laurel gets in just as Mina shatters the earpiece on their end>Mayor says stuff like "all i remember is grassy fields, and i was with my family, etc.">Just as Laurel finds out that within the master bedroom of the Mayor's house were papers detailing the "Zazuela Project". A kind of punishment agreed upon by all the four megacorps to be inflicted upon the war criminals of the First Corporation War>basically, their souls will never rest, trapped in eternity living with no recollection of themselves within Husks, (Taong-Kaha, "People Cases, or People that are Cases") forever to live in Zazuela>with that knowledge, Bernabe tells the mayor to trust in them, etc. etc., that all they want to do is protect the cathedral>the mayor seems to comply, and makes them leave>Bernabe and Mina then regroup with Laurel just as Laurel panics and shoots a 16 year old girl in the thigh>thankfully Mina had a Lunas Tumayo, which heals her thanks to Diwanites>they try to interrogate the young girl. they quickly realize that she's Lisa, but she doesn't seem to answer or recognize her old name>with that in mind, she leaves, telling them "if you want the truth, follow me"... just as the speaker system of a Meka booms, telling them to come out with their hands up>paralyzed with what to do, their Kalagyo tell them that they can summon their Meka, if needed. they oblige>Mina watches Lisa run away, near the border of the woods, just as something shoots her in the head and she to her death>right as Kubrador, Mina's mech, appears by the window, and pulls him into the cockpit>badass mech fight happens, with Kubrador destroying the mayor's house>afterwards, the last man standing surrenders, open-cockpit. Mina tries to calm him down, as the man doesn't know what's happening, and clearly is following orders. >Mina puts two hands on the peacekeeper's shoulders, persuading him... when a sniper round goes through his neck, and he falls into Mina's arms, bleeding.
>>69210491And the session basically ends there. There will definitely be a follow up session as there is obviously more to the storyso far the mech combat seems enjoyable and relatively fast, even with system non-familiarity, so that was fun, and i'm glad. although now i do have some work to do on the maharlika/pilot side of the equation
>>69210491Anyone else have anything to share here?
>>69210514Any other thoughts?

>>69109695>wherein I made a Pre-Colonial Filipino setting (or was it Spanish Filipino? I forget). That has since become a Filipino RPG named Karanduun, which I sold a bit of locally. So it was good enough that people paid money for it but you can’t remember which period of filipino history it comes from? Are you ok?
>>69217741yes. mostly because the final Karanduun that I released was pretty different from the Karanduun I made here in /tg/the final Karanduun ended up becoming a pbta-esque game wherein you play as Filipino Epic Folk Heroes that travel across the different dimensions by moving to and fro "Biringan", the City of the Engkantoso, a bit of Planescape with Exalted>>69217571sorry, I'll be working on the English translation of KOMSA in a hot minute, I just have to finish the revisions. working on a sort of "Lifepath" generator to replace the Facts system. It would be a good way to ground the Maharlika in the setting as well as a way to expose lore without huge lore dumps being necessaryin the meantime have some aesthetic pegs
>>69218131Cool. Thank you for explaining that. Also good luck with the translation.
>>69195111It's a Starship Troopers reference. In the last chapter, the Filipino protagonist Juan Rico is joshing around with another M.I. who hails from South America and they talk about naming ships after their national heroes.

this is pretty neat! Thanks for sharing, anon!

on a 3-4 hour bus trip, have some lore and drop questions about the game if you have any"The Meka are the epitome of our New Humanity. Here and now, in the Third Lakanate, we create these steel, stone, and wood behemoths together. Engineers, scholars, occultists, Katalonan, priests, pilots, nobles, businessmen, laborers, farmers--all of Humanity is needed to successfully build a Meka, a paragon of us at our apex, the crest of Mankind. Stand tall, Maharlika, pilot of New Humanity, as you will lead us to a new golden age. Long Live Humanity, and always remember: Exceed the horizon, Maharlika."-- 1st Lakan of the Third Lakanate, his final speech to a new generation of Maharlika, before vanishing.
also overwhelming thanks to those bumping i see you. ignites a reckless kind of need to get the translations finishedhave some more aesthetic pegs, this one is particularly something I'd vividly see in the Archipelago of Maharlika: perhaps the last vestige of a Maharlika squad carrying out a Mission in a Horizon planet.
>>69222082>Tabletop Games aren't exactly popular here afaikYeah, it makes me sad that this is also the case over here. I guess the average SEA loves MMORPGs more than TTRPGs.
>>69224624We are here for ya anon. >>69224833Bit weird, rpg are so inexpensive to game with, and good for socializing, as a Spaniard they are pretty common even in little 20.000 cities.
>>69224880Cultural differences I think. Over here in Indonesia, while there are some that do get in the subculture, the only 'traditional games' most people play are boardgames like chess or monopoly. But roleplay-wise, I guess most tend to gravitate more towards computer-based RPGs (read: MMORPG etc).
>>69224880>>69224907it is relatively cheap (atleast for me, as I had /tg/ to just grab pdfs from) but the idea just isn't something that's breached most Filipino places save for those that are into the nerdy/geeky cultures and even then they only really know D&Dwhen the term RPG is used, it is mostly understood as the MMORPG type of thing, as that's breached Filipino consciousness at least (prevalence of compshops and the absolute popularity of Ragnarok Online is a testament to that)
This is crazy.I LOVE IT.
>>69224942>>69224907Here we had our own little satanic panic lite (psycho killer), but it did grow from little cells than expanded, to end being common in pretty much any uni or town, thanks also to wh and other boardgames, and Pop culture being a lot more nerdier than before.>>69112301>Those flipinized spanish words.Dang that's pretty funny.

There are a lot of ways to fix it, but I'd change it to "get together", or "get together to party" if there's an implication of a rowdy gathering in the original phrase.pg 11, Raise your Utang Threshold, 1st line: 'you're fame' -> 'your fame'pg 12, Look for a new treasure, 1st line: "want to be first" doesn't make sense here. Is this a Filipino expression? I'd remove it and change to "want to make a new treasure"pg 12, look for a connection, 2nd line: "State to the arbiter your reason" should be "state your reason to the arbiter"pg 13, threads, 2nd para: "reaches only until 3" -> "only goes up to 3"pg 14, two paragraphs of untranslated text at end of thread sectionpg 15, pull on the threads, 1st line: "havesomething" -> "have something"pg 15, tease, quote: Not necessarily a typo, but I first read "Ayie!" as the name of a third person, which made the quote a bit confusing. pg 15, share, quote: "Longed dreamed" -> "long dreamed"
>>69232255 Continuedpg. 17, 2nd line: unclear what 'if you're reading' means, I would just remove those words.pg 17, keep: "know one treasure that you have" is a bit wonky, I would say it "know one of your Treasures"pg 17, resist: untranslated section at endpg 18, first paragraph: rules don't state what happens if you buy something that would take you past the limit of your utang thresholdpg 18, facts: "find that one fact about you can help" sounds a bit odd, I would say "have a fact [about yourself] that can help". bit in [brackets] is optional.pg 18, consequences, 2nd line: 'player would know' -> 'player will know' or 'player knows'pg 18, last line: "consequences you can do" sounds a bit odd, I would say "consequences that can happen"That's pretty much it for part 1, I hope it helps! Not about to let this thread die without at least the enemies being translated.

pt 2pg 1, size: untranslated text in .5 and 2pg 2, meka combat, 1st/2nd lines: Choose one of 'define' or 'state', not bothpg 2, activation phase: Rules don't specify how order of turns is decided within a side. I assume everyone works it out ahead of time?pg 3, stride, 1st line: "Half your speed if you are prone" a bit awkward, I would merge it with the last sentence and make it "or half your speed if you are prone". If striding lets you stop early, I would also spell it out by editing to "move up to a number of spaces equal...", as the current wording implies you must move all the spaces you can.same, 2nd line: "more speed than you can" should have an ending (eg "can move"). I'd also rewrite it to refer to movement instead of speed, since speed is the stat that determines movement. "more than you can move" is what I would use.pg 3, boost, last line: 'ie' in parentheses should be 'e.g.'. minor grammar nitpick, but I'm mentioning it anyway.pg 4, Carabao push down: Untranslated word in title? Also, based on the mechanics, 'Shove' might be a better title, as 'push down' implies an intent to make the target prone.pg 5, outside of your time, block: 'Half' -> 'halve'pg 6, difficult terrain, 2nd line: "meaning you basically move" is completely grammatically correct, but "Basically, you move" would sound more official.pg 6, obscuring terrain, 1st line: remove 'where'same, 2nd line: 'Are of Effect' -> "Area of effect". Also, the second 'blocks' is redundant.pg 6, cover, simple and superior cover: entries should either be altered to say 'being under X cover..." or changing 'gives' to 'you get'pg 6, cover, superior cover: 'Superior cover are' -> 'superior cover is'pg 6, line of sight, 2nd line: "although if you proposed that something is obscuring..." sounds odd, I would change the sentence to "if there is obscuring terrain..."post's full now, more later.

pg 13, the maharlika, quote: "you won't be long here." sounds odd and is unclear. if the intent is to convey that their life expectancy will be short, use "you won't last long here." if the intent is to state they'll soon move to another location, use "you won't be here for long."same, 3rd para: 'prodigy's' -> 'prodigies'. Also, I'd change the commas to periods, but that's a stylistic choice.pg 13, concept and name, 1st line: "whole-ass maharlika", while it gets the message across, is rather crude language for a game manual. Given that this is for /tg/, it doesn't really matter, and in fact I found it funny enough my vote is for keeping it in, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that you'll want to change it to something like "entire maharlika" for a commercial release.pg 13, a maharlika's traits, 1st para: translate 'samahan' to corporation/organizationsame, 2nd para: "at 3 when needed" unclear. replace with "at 3 when created"?pg 14, your valued: Replace "Valued" with "Value(s)" throughout, depending on whether talking about one or severalsame, 2nd para, 2nd line: 'contest' ->'context'pg 14, equipment, toughness: replace 'toughness' with 'armor'same: translate "Pumili ng isa" to "choose one"same, electronic suit: extra 4 at end of descriptionsame, katalonan cloak: untranslated speed stat at end. Speed is already listed, so just remove.pg 14, equipment, kagamitan: untranslated title and selection method. Since it's already in a section called "equipment", i'd make it "Gear (Choose 3 or roll 3d20)"same, GHW-S CAMPING SET, 4th line: "until you use or it o the next" -> "until you use it or the next"same, EZ BANIG, 2nd line: "Good-ass sleep", same problem as "whole-ass maharlika". Finally made it through reading this threadBless this thread, and good luck to you
>>69262117thanks for going through the thread! i gladly accept your blessings. >>69260779pic related is a character design (which you can see on the maharlika supplement cover above) that actually incorporated some bits of that moro armor design
>>69142070Great work so far
>>69128416Keep it up.
>>69260616Thanks for linking this! In addition to being interesting, it cleared up my confusion regarding what neomangkono was, as unlike 'bato', putting 'mangkono' into google translate didn't give any results. Personally, I'd translate them as 'neowood' and 'neostone'. anyway, on with part 4. I switched to a new system of commenting directly onto the pdf, as that's way easier than tabbing between the pdf and 4chan. I hope to god it still works when I post it on /tg/.
>>69266797Good, looks like it does work.a few corrections now that I look back over it, though:pg 5, Mangangaso, 3rd line: For whatever reason, one of my notes isn't showing up. sorry, the GM section is taking a while, been busy as of late. have some chibi hukluban in the meantimeif the thread dies before i get the GM section out (which has some lore to it), i'll be sure to eventually open up another thread with the GM section translatedin the meantime, those that want to join over the Maharlika discord where you can get all updates. be warned, though, that it's mostly just dead right now.https://discord.gg/JFGpsMhwhile it's initially written in Filipino, don't be afraid to converse in English, since most Filipinos can anyway>>69266797>>69268759godsend typo anon, i'd gladly have you on over into the discord btw. i'll even put your name in the credit stuff since you're basically doing this shit for free.

maharlika anon, you have this posted online anywhere or mind if I share it on some Discords that have a hard-on for Flip stuff? Both the Islands and Aswangs book and the The Islands of Sina Una were pushed pretty hard.
>>69318026the revised beta version of this isn't done yet (few more playtests to be done) so i'm not advertising as much, although I am trying to push it on twitter also yeah, i'm actually one of the main researchers + writers for Sina Una>>69317803I'll be giving /tg/ a free copy of the final english pdf for free, then i'll be selling the bilingual version (with fancy art and layouting) over on itch.iospeaking of layouting, fuck if that task doesn't daunt me>>69312712currently we're planning on making art for all of the baluti (so, kinda like LANCER wherein each Frame has it's own illustration) and then afterwards he's thinking of making a few scenario illustrations as well, and some chibified versions of the baluti which can be sold as stickers
>>69319076Hmm, any way to contact you outside of /tg/?

thanks for keeping this floating, all of you. attached is the last section of the book (i lie, there's still the Infinite Mechanics: Forge of Uniiverses that is just tables and generators)but here is the GM Section, and with this the english translation is all but done (save for the aforementioned tables)i'll compile all of them tomorrow my time. sorry it took so long!i've removed the social mechanics stuff from the filipino version, which i'll be doing for the english version as well when i compile everything (with the fixes from typo anon)

hey all, working more on the english stuff. its coming together. in the meantime, take a look at the template for the illustrations and the BAGANI baluti. our lead artist did a great job on this

Anybody else have trouble archiving stuff to suptg?
>>69374648>>69376134it looks like we're encroaching somewhat on the bump limit, so i'll probably get the entire english pdf out in a few days and make a thread about itI'm still waiting for corrections from typo anon, so that'd take a while. once that's done though, i'll be able to put the entire pdf down here and let /tg/ enjoy a mech game that wouldn't have been possible if it hadn't been for the huge amounts of discourse, free pdfs, and resources that i've found here along the yearsi mean, damn, i remember when we got that first LANCER thread. that resparked my love for Mecha again
>>69376386Oh yeah, it's on suptg now, be sure to vote to at least 5 so it'll be archived forever!

>>69384557my indio.>>69384619thanks! Currently, they are all a bunch of smaller parts so you need all of them, but right now I'm compiling all of them into a single pdf (with typos fixed and stuff) that I'll soon release here (probably with a new thread)thanks for the interest!
>>69386524>right now I'm compiling all of them into a single pdfnice, and no prob. I'm just a general /m/an who just happens to like ttrpgs.
