Welcome to the second thread for Swords of Avalon, a TG made setting involving Arthurian legend, cyborgs, mecha and giant Robot Dragons. The link below is to the current Google doc that covers the TimeLine leading up to when the setting takes place, that being several decades after the climatic battle of Camlann in which the Rogue AI Morrigan was beaten back by the knights of the Great Corporate houses.first thread: >>61535005doc with the lore:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Cm16GUoQtg5IqTe0FM9dKD15TpJGpkOf0Zzi5TS3BGM/edit
>>61597062>continuing the Song of Sir Hamself the RedAnd indeed that was true. The second Griffin had recovered from the rifle grenade and thus rose up and roared in rage. We could only observe, as we were too far away and risked to hit Hamself if we had opened fire.Yet then it glanced at Sir Hamself and noted the poor condition he was in. Then, almost mockingly, it began to walk past him, towards our position. But Sir Hamself would not allow that. He rose up, shaking and screamed a challenge with his externals. Dragging his sword out of the previous Griffin, he assumed a aggressive stance.Yet the Griffin would have none of that. He just pounced next to him, and before he was within sword-length, fired its Plasma-Breath. The damage was total. The lower half of his Cavalier melted into a blue mass and his sword was dissected. Hamself collapsed to the ground and the Griffin returned its interest towards us. But Hamself threw the sword-half he still had at the beast and once more screamed a challenge. And now the Griffin was furious. It jumped into air and crashed on top of him. It bit horrible pieces off but then Sir Hamself won: With a single strike of his wounded left arm, he tore off his own primary power core and struct it inside the Griffin, using one of the holes he had previously done with this rifle. The Griffin had only a second to scream its fury until the core overheated and reduced the battlefield into a crater.
>>61597407We reached the edge of the crater after quarter hour, and witnessed Sir Hamself climbing out of his Cavaliers core. It had barely survived the blast but the man waved us off, for he was cursed with the hex of radiation and would not live long.As he sat down, I asked why he had attacked the third beast. "It was already wounded, our tanks could have dealt with it as well and you would have survived.""But then I would have had to live with the fact that I let it go away. And worse, Morrigan would known it trought the same throught is minion-dragon. She could have used that knowledge in some later battle, with fatal results.""That is what this war is about, tanker. A battle of survival against a being which wants us all exterminated. It is useless to cry about ones own fate in such a conflict. One can just fight with valour, trust his Cavalier and hope that is enough."Sir Hamself the Red died after seventeen hours. To this day, the Red Crater Lake is dedicated to his sacrifice.
That sounds awesome what you are doing here, please proceed.
Ill copy the ballad if Hamself into the Doc in a little bit. If that's ok.
>>61597546Or not, thanks to who ever did that!
>>61597559i copy part of it,i will finish it soon
im not pretty good on stories but i would like to create one for the batlle of sphirus IV>>61590648sphirus IV would be knida like the ''halo reach'' of swords of avalonfighting a lost battle for the sake of gaining time, protecting the innocents on evacs and warning the round table about who was behind the suddenly lost of communications with colonies the pasts weeks(they lost communications because they were destroyed)the story would have two arcs-the colonist defenses forces strife to send the distress signal, telling the round table that the lost of communications was because a unknown enemy was attacking them-the expeditionary force trying to evac the planet, slow the dragons forces in that choke point, discovering who is behind the attacks and inform the round table about it,in a suicidal mission (at least 93 percent of the expeditionary force was destroyed)
Salamander class Dragons were designed as Siege breakers. Their long chassis houses a series of powerful reactors. These in turn are used to power not only motive systems but its dangerous main weapon. A battleship class Plasma Cannon. The blast this unleashes can simply evaporate most defenses allowing its numerous teeth, or minor dragons to exploit the gaping wound in a defensive line. They are however sluggish and must be protected in battle as they are not equipped with any weapons beyond their singular devastating weapon. Nor are they highly mobile.
ftl methods and communications:it would be like in the pastrange of times that can go from weeks to monthsthere are 3 ftl methods-whormhole stationsincredible expensive, and only work if the place you want to go have a wormhole port tooit can take from some hours to some weeks to get to other system-warp bubbles, incredible slow, yet it can go on any direction and change of direction as long there isn't some kind of space time anomaly and lot of maneuverability -quantic accelerationa point between on speed, but can only go to predetermined coordinates, once the travel begins it cant change of direction or abort, but the coordinates can be anywherecomms use quantic acceleration to send messages
>>61597761Upon Sphirus IV, knights of the Minor House Dolden found themselves in a pitched battle. Once, a peacefully colony and Outpost for the restarted colonizing efforts. Sphirus would soon become the first of many casualties within the Draconic Wars. For upon that credentials world would the dragon Lofwyr make itself known. The capital city and space port of Sphirus were the first to note something was amiss as the typical packet boat carrying information and goods from the core world's had yet to arrive. Though they tried to radio out to the greater empire they had been met with nothing but static. This was the only warning the planet would get.
>>61598107I would say leave it as one guranteed way to travel. Though perhaps the Sidhe with their fuckery had built a network.
Corp Lineages:>Avalonian - Inner sphere native corps that have held Mercury to Mars for ages. >Alpha Franks - Originating from Alpha Centauri, the Bastard Sword class(half way in size between a Arming and a Long) and Francisca class (small Axe types)>Celt - Based mostly around the many moons of Jupiter. Many claim that PenDragon's Caliburn was based on their Caledfwlch models>Gaels - Control the 'Highlands' around Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The Claymore class models are mostly exclusive to them. >Saxon - After Arthur broke up the Saxon Invasion force early in his career, some Saxon Corps swore loyalty to the Round Table and settled into the Phaeton Asteroid Belt with Ceres as their capital. The Dane Axe is a signature class.>Saracen - Originating far inside the galactic arm these returning immigrants are known for their Scimitar class.
>>61598175something to point>the weren't the first casualty>several colonies were destroyed at this point but no one knew it yet>they were the only planet that was able to send a call for help>then even if they knew something was wrong they didn't knew who was behind it>they send a light armie to scout>massacre.morrigan>the expeditionary force is destroyed, but they manage to discover that morrigan was behind the attacks, his purposes and warning the round table
>>61598392that sacrifice is what make sphirus IV be remembered as ''the planet of martyrs''today is memorial world, being recolonized and terraform by common efort of all great companies, and several minor noble houses, and systemsas a symbol of mankind sacrifice and unity as race
>>61598441Consider the fact that Lancelot and Galahad (two of the biggest Gary-Stues in Arthurian Myth) would be part of that group.
>>61598197I like that, there could be different kinds of FTL ways in the Universe, but Sidhe fuckery has made nearly all of them too dangerous around earth and they ex colonies.
>>61598175Though several far flung colonies had fallen prior to Sphirus, many had simply chalked it up to raids by pirates or rival houses. The coming of Lofwyr however would reveal the reality of the situation. That Morrigan had gone Rogue and humanity had created its own Downfall. What had been mistaken as a Mordred Castle came hurtling in system. As the craft passed the final boundaries and into the orbital ring around Sphirus Lord executive order Caryth Nils took notice and began to assemble a defense. Even as he did he sent those unable to fight to space ports . His Castle the Grancryst took position over the planet and prepared to deal with the Interlopers.
>>61599022Lofwyr made the first move. Wyvern Class strike vessels taking wing into space to attack the Grancryst. Caryth with his retinue of seven knights took to the field backed by the warship Martle. The first exchange saw the wyverns falling from the sky even as the first vessels to flee the planet took flight. Lofwyr however had accounted for this with the power of Morrigan backing its mindcore and adding immense processing abilities to the mechanized beast.
>>61599322As civilian vessels rose from the 9planet the great dragon took flight. Smashing them apart. Carthyl sought to intervene his cavalier drawing the beasts ire as gouts of plasma fire burned in the vacuum of space. Even as the knights fought, below upon the planet Yeoman manning anti orbital weapons took aim. Their mass drivers burning phosphor arcs into the horizon as they aided their lords.
>>61599740The hail of Fire rose up to Lofwyr and in response from, its lair burst forth countless mechanized beasts. Lesser dragons whirled around their master and descended to the planet. Metallic scales ruby from atmospheric fire. The Knights were now fighting upon a divided field. Carthyl desperately developed a ploy to level the field once more. Grancryst stirred and cannon blazing powered into the Beasts lair pushing it into a degrading orbit. From, its halls ushered out Men At Arms clad in Cuirass class powered armor to storm the lair only to be met by swarms of Lofwyrs wretched servants, the Dragon's Teeth.
>>61599740on the blink of a eye,the lord's and defenders of sphirus saw themselves being fool by the tides of fate again. ,the plasma beams were advancing in their direction ''betray!!'' was the thought on everybody minds
>>61599998Grancryst plummeted to Sphyris below, the lair of Lofwyr tangled with it. Carthyl aboard his ship tangled once more with the monster, laser fire scorching its metallic hide even as it closed its wing shields tight to dive into the atmosphere. Carthyl's plan had worked. For now. Upon the Surface Monks of the Green Bible prepared their tanks for the ground battle. Yeoman likewise prepared as from on high the knightfall commenced and the warship took aim below. Within space ports, innocents flocked to vessels as Men at arms took up defensive posts. The true battle was about to begin.
So was looking at the concept of Warp Gates wouldn't it make sense for them to be located near Earth/Avalon as it got hit while Mars didn't?
>>61601369that would be ''extremely convenient'' for morriganeven if RoMe let their guard down, they would never put warp gates in their most sacredis like puting the nuclear bomb under your bedwe can change the lore a little, say a incredible brutal space battlen went over mars, and then morrigan decided to lead a ''all or nothing'' attack on earth
>>61601435Thst makes more sense yeah. Also more I think about it makes sense they'd be close to the giant kill sat network of Hadrians wall.
>>61601457mars was the industrial and trade centerearth was the political and ideological oneis natural that the warp gates were on a neutral soil,in this case the biggest trade center were all factions were equals
>>61601623Good point wonder what RoME was like really
>>61601096Though Grancryst had fallen, it would continue to play a critical role against the beast. Bound to the Lair of Lofyr men and knights alike continued to hold out within its halls. Laser and Rail cannon batteries firing directly into the belly of the beast. However, this was only a delaying measure. Within the Corporate halls Carthyl gathered what men he could and continued to try and radio out into the greater realms in a vain hope that the Round Table might answer his pleas. Within the Space ports innocents crowded, boarding ships as fast as they could, eyes cast to the sky in fear of what new horror might come screaming out of the distant corner of the world that the dragon and its ilk had plummeted to. All the while, Green monks with their humble tanks and transports created secure paths where possible. Their patrols serving as a sign of hope even as over their external speakers sermons blared to ease the trouble minds of those trying to flee to now plagued world. Squires and knights alike did what they could, intercepting hordes of Dragon's Teeth as they swarmed out or some other minor threat. However, none had seen Lofyr since its descent.
>>61603534For six days a seeming peace reigned. Though the Lair brought down by Carthyl had been destroyed. Still more Draconic machines emerged from the wilderness to torment humanity. Upon the Seventh the reality of the situation came to those upon Sphyris with full force. Lofyr emerged from the shattered remains of a city which had fallen in the early days. Its factories corrupted by the Dragon to produce hordes of minions bent to its will. Lindwurms birthed from foundries barreled into the first ranks of men, tearing them limb from limb with their vibro-claws and plasma arc breath. Wyverns screamed overhead dropping toxic bombs which corrupted the air and turned the lungs of the unlucky into festering puss and blood. Drakes stalked Tanks and with their rail cannon tore them to shreds. What civilians that had fled were but a small number to those that had been left behind as the great dragon turned its wrath upon the world. But, their tales were heard as the first refugees were found. Carthyl and his men for their part fought bravely, waging a battle that went on for over a year. However, as with all things it was not enough. His men were winnowed down until naught but he and a lone squire stood upon the field. Stripped of the cavaliers and still with sword in hands charged headlong into the fray.
>>61604067By the Time Round Table forces reached Sphyris IV it was a changed world. Seething war factories made to feed Morrigan's campaign of eradication rose to dizzying heights. What humans were left alive were little more than shells, their minds and bodies poisoned by what had dominated their world for so long. Their language and freedom stripped away and replaced by mechanical efficiency of the Beast. But, tucked away in one small corner the Green Monks persisted. Their redoubt buried deep beneath a salt lake where they had hid since the last days of resistance. Within they held recorded accounts of the horrors that had been enacted upon them as well as the heroism of the men and women that had fought in those early days of what would be the dragon war. During the liberation the Round Table would go on to declare the world as a testament to man's spirit. Though much of the damage was healed, the ruins of Castle Grancryst were turned into a monument and upon their Duraplate walls are now scribed the names of those that fought in those early days. And, with the Defeat of Morrigan the Body of Lofyr was brought to the world, its ThoughtCore and Fusion Reactor Ripped from its body so that those that live there now might spit upon the beast.
>>61604275As always, thoughts comments and concerns?
Wait, so is this just supposed to be background, or is there an actual game associated with all of this (admittedly nice) world building?
>>61604418A system hasn't been decided upon yet. Personally, I might force my one buddy to just build it in Silcore and see how it handles. Though I'm sure there's several folk out there that might have other ideas what to build this with.
>>61604324awesome in all sense now continuity problems>the planet fell and the round table discovered that the colonies falling were the fault of a invading force, yet didnt know who was behind them>this way they send a expeditionary force without knowing that morrigan is prepared for them and their tactics>the second battle of sphirus is another defeat (one more hard to achieve for morrigan, surely) but the expeditionar force manage to discover that morrigan was the mastermind>defeated they survivors of the expedionary would retreat, yet the damage was done morrigan had lost the surprise effect, and the time of his easy victories had end>from there every victory would be a hard achieved oneso yeah ,there is a hole between the first battle (the one where the planet fell) and the reconquer (the third one)being that hole the second one (other lost battle, yet the identity of morrigan as the one behind the attacks is discovered)but on narrative terms, your awesome is incredible dude,a lot of thanks, wonderful workgodspeed anon
>>61604532Thanks, if the thread is still here I'll post a second battle of Sphirus. That goes into how that went. Also, tank monks are now a thing.
>>61604660tank monks ,awesome
>>61604660btw now tank monk are the name of the specialized tank divisions trained and created by a housetanks monks are very rare, usually the houses just contract mercenary tank divisions, but sometimes they can be found on colonies and fortress as the elite tank units of their lords
Looks cool OP
desu this looks cool but should be limited to just taking place in this solar system. I don't like things with mechs that take place in an entire galaxy with ftl and shit.
>>61597407>>61597462Press F to pay respect.
>ctrl-f "Grail" in thread>0 results (only 1 in last thread)>ctrl-f "Grail" in setting doc>0 resultsIt doesn't even have to be called the Grail, because in medieval literature it was called 'The Sangreal' meaning 'The Holy Grail'. Having some kind of power source called Sangreal could be interesting, consider that Sir Bors, Percival and Galahad found it though.
>>61609472Sidhe fuckery? Whispers about the grial and they relation with the sidhe are heard here and there, specially with the spacers. The key to an imense power.
>>61609472>>61609472I've been unsure how to work it in honestly.
>>61611114yeah in such a srs bsns setting its honestly kinda hard to introduce a "end-all" item that every side would value because of its power. Maybe a DM can introduce the item as part of a campaign but if it exits naturally then realistically it should be the focus of everyone in the setting.
>>61611283>Mecha knights figthing robo-dragons.>Serious.Eh there is plenty of site for silly, if you get good ideas.>>61611114When in doubt keep it vague, mythical. Some times you get a better idea when you are doing another thing or an anon comes with an interesting twist.
Avalonians:The inner system of Sol has long been home to humanity. During it's heights the inner system! Is a swarm of ships and movement. In this !odern era however, the vast fleets of vessels are diminished to a paltry shade of their glory. Those that live here are called the Avalonia after the lost homeworld of all races of men. Avalonians are a stalwart folk, deeply tied to their history. It is they who comprise the majority of the Round table corporations. From then shield foundries upon Mercury to the teeming metropoli of Mars the men of Avalon live their lives as best they can.
>>61611424Within the crust of Mercury they work within the vast city factories built from bygone days. Here cavaliers, cuirass, and castles are forged alongside every day goods needed for living. The capital city of Mercury Helios floats tidally locked in it's shadow. From here massive shipyards repair and refit Corporate House vessels and merchant ships. During the various Wars Mercury has been a stronghold, backed by the weather of the Sun itself the men of Avalon build and took.
>>61611578Upon Venus or rather above. Cloud cities drift upon eddies and gyres, many of these were built up from research vessels of RoME. Below upon the surface prospectors and those dedicated to unravelling mysteries of the SIDHE wander the firey lands below. The Paradox Forests upon the Plantia are thought to be only one such structure. Within the clouds Corporate Nobility lounge and play games of skill and chance.
>>61611718Though Earth, now Avalon has been sealed from men. Its skies wrapped in strange eternal, fogs and mists. Men still might have upon their home world. Stations from the earliest days of mans ventures into space persist still. And though, many were destroyed in the Dragon's war hundreds yet thrive. These feed much of Avalonian spsce. Their cylinders and Rungs having well established ecosystems that produce bounties. Upon Luna beneath glassed Regolith Merlin dwells its processors as vast as any city and filled with dedicated orders of Monks of the Green Bible tend to the enigmatic beings needs. From here Merlin provides the vital information needed for faster than light travel. Ensuring the Stars remain in reach. And, within these halls are also the secrets of Fusion Cores that power Cavaliers and Castles. For only the Sacred orders of Monks and Merlin know their secrets of manufacture.
>>61611804And finally, Mars. The Red World of Mars had become the default Capital of the Round Table. Terraformed centuries before, the planet though Arid had seas and forests and breathable Air. Upon the Olympus Mons and the Tharsis Bulge the land is dominated by the great cities, Camelot and Londinium. Together they form the beating hearts of the inner system. Their factories and offices ensuring the Great houses are run smoothly. High above, the Great network of Starways flicker as ships travel from afar and Knights set upon their quests.
So thoughts upon the inner system?
As promised, the second battle of Sphyris. It took nearly eight months for the Fleet to reach the system of Sphyris. Commanded by the Lord Knight Gawain industries, Erik Losphen with his Castle Duval and Arming Cavalier Glory. Backing the Knight was also the Castle of Knight Tyr of house Algovale and Castle of Knight Yrmes of House Lancelot. The three vessels approached the world expecting little more than pirate activity. The claims of those fleeing considered little more than hyperbole. Little did they know, the great dragon Lofyr lay in wait.
>>61612184In even that short time the dragon had changed the planet to suit its needs. A new lair orbited equipped with weapons modified from the Castle Grancryst and what defenses that had survived were no corrupted. Packs of Wyverns lay in wait armed with rail cannon upon asteroids scattered across orbits. The castles burned in system. Mighty fusion engines casting great plumes of fire as they did. All was quiet to the knights, though nothing but a repeating sequence of data came from the planet. Ancient datastreams that broadcasted news a decade old. Scoured from intact archives to make all seen normal.
>>61612259By the time it was realized what had happened it was too late. Lofwyr sprung its trap upon the knights. The Dragons Lair burned from between the Primary and planet and wyverns took flight from asteroids and the surface. The knights scrambled to prepare. Lofwyr however had learned from the last battle. Rail cannon spat fury and Plasma bombarded the hasty defenses. The knights returned fire and their warships were loosed Cavaliers astride. But, Lofwyr had learned and learned well.
>>61612414From the surface the Green monks of the order of saint Asteleres watched in horror. And, within the cities citizens were forced outside to watch the battle in the night sky. The first Castles reactor burned as a second for a few brief moments as lofyrs minions tore it apart. The dragon itself remained hidden, waiting for its moment to strike. Planetary defenses hummed to life and, without mercy tore into the second Castle, its debris and knights falling to the planet as burning embers.
>>61612483Duval held the longest, a full six hours. Its main batteries crumpled as Wyvern collided with them and, as Lofwyr took flight the fate of the expedition was sealed. Erik sortied out, taking flight to face the monster but, it was for naught. Glory was too slow to respond and, lacking proper armor withered beneath plasma fire and metallic claw. Castle Duval fell from, the heavens, Lofwyr pinning Glory to it the entire descent, roaring in triumph.
>>61612602Merlin, observing from aboard a small vessel at the edge of the system watched all this with what might be considered shock. The data would prove vital however as it revealed no need pirates were plaguing the outer reaches. And, that more alarmingly the Mordred Company had betrayed not only the Round Table but humanity,
So what are the other Cultures like now that we've got the Avalonians kinds penned up.
The Alpha Frankish were some of the First Pioneers into space. Settling up on the planets of Alpha Centauri and Proxima Centauri. Centuries of cultural drift have led to a distinct culture separate from the Avalonian cultures. The Frankish perhaps more than any culture make extensive use of gene tailoring, to the extent that many Corporate Houses have entire hereditary lines carefully catalogued and modified for specific tasks and excellence.
>>61612623Fucking Valvrave I liked some of the designs but that was a shit show,
Cavaliers have a storied history. Originally developed to help RoME in the exploration and exploitation of planets. These massive bipedal machines eventually were pressed into military use during the countless civil wars that marked the end of that most immense of empires. By the time the Round Table was first forming Cavaliers had replaced light fighting vehicles upon most planets. Their mobility, low crew needs and firepower coupled with high mobility made them excellent in the rough outer colonies and densely built up Core Worlds. However, it would take the concept of Corporate Chivalry and the Dragon’s War to thrust them into the fore. In particular PenDragons Caliburn Model based upon ancient designs scoured from Martian Archives. Caliburn would set the design standard to which other Cavaliers would be based. Now, centuries after its inception dozens of classes of the mobile weapons take the field helmed by skilled knights of the Round or similar nobles across the Arm.
>>61614032Likewise, the great ships of the Knights are a leftover from those high days as well. Designed to be modular exploration vessels they also were turned towards military ends in the decline of the Empire. Castles experienced a more slow and steady progression. Their modular designs allowing the Corporate Houses to fit them to specific tasks, from the massive land bound cruisers of Bor mining to the sleek space faring battleships of Lancelot Dynamics. Castles are built up over time from a Core module, this comprised of the central Fusion Reactor and Command bridge. From this Knights may tailor their vessel to their needs, adding hangars, quarters, weapons batteries and drives as needed. The most ancient of these vessels have over time been turned into self sustaining cities in their own right.
>>61614221As always, thoughts to anyone in the thread?
>>61613256I am thinking of biting the bullet after dropping it 3 eps in. Just to get it off my chest and torture myself with bad anime. The setting ideas are fantastic and I wish it was handled better.
>>61614221>>61614032Good ideas. What would a "Basic" Castle stat sheet look like?
>>61614330Depends on system obviously but it'd be the stats for a reactor room, basic bridge/crew quarters and probably blocks for a means to move and a hangar or basic weapon such as a rail gun.
>>61614307Its good if you want stupid but, really go watch Aegovellon and enjoy something decent. Also can someone repost the classes of cavalier we have?
Is there a wiki for this yet for someone just now finding this and wanting to catch up?
>>61614692There's the Doc in the OP I tried to keep it concise as I could.
>>61614330IF we go for scale, like in d6, I would say +12, like a space ship.
So I got asked by a friend. What the Religious nature of people in Swords of Avalon would be like.We do have Monks of the green Bible which seem a lot like Christian monastic orders but what other sorts traditions might we see crop up?
>>61615943Dragon/morrigan cultists? They could be wanabe transhumanists.
>>61616052I could see that. Maybe its the 'state religion' for Mordred employees?
>>61616144Ha, I didn't think of that, it would make sense.
>>61616206I could also a pagan/druid religion based on the Sidhe where places like the Venusisn Paradox Forests are treated like sacred groves?
>>61616248Hippies going all about cosmic energy while ingesting copious amounts of psycodhelics and rambling about dimension etc?
>>61616398Defi,Italy likely paying good money for artifacts but largely harmless?
>>61612184>>61612259>>61612483The lose of the castles make me cry, those rare fusion engines.>>61612602>>61612649Nice read overall.
>>61614221>>61614032Size wise, how much variability there is? From smaller than scopedogs for squires to Battletech for the most advanced, bigger mechs?
>>61616746In the last thread it was figured they'd range between 2 and 10 meters depending on class. Daggers are by far smallest with the Claymore variant probably bringing the heaviest weapons and armor to the table.
>>61617472Correction 3-12 meters
>>61617617Seems perfect really, so the X-calibur would have been a big old gundam in size, while people in planetary militias or the squires go with scraped, ex civilian mechs of about 3m, being the odd job workers in the castles and dream to be knighted in the best machines.
>>61617651That was the intent and even some younger knights are probably stuck in smaller Cavaliers till they gained enough renown to make it to the big leagues.

Those classes would likely be Claymore equivalents used in the systems further into the Galactic Arm.The Frank and Saracen/Arabic stuff is due to a quirk in Arthurian myth where the French inserted a bunch of OCDonuts into the English/Welsh myths (Lancelot, Galahad, and Palamedes are some of the major examples).>Also I would say Axes are high damage, fast and cheap, but a bit underarmored, while Maces/hammers are slower, but hard punching and well armored.I originally imagined the Axe type cavaliers being some of the toughest compared to the Sword and Spear types
>>61620150>>61619880When you want to win a battle, you call in the Swords. When you want to win a war, you call in the Spears. When you absolutely want something utterly dead, you call in the Axes.-A saying among the Saxon Corps.
>>61619593Axe Class: heavy, direct assault units. Axe class are siege breakers meant to chop apart a defensive line. Heavily armored and equipped with nearly battleship grade weapons. Axe class chassis lack the maneuvering ability of their smaller, lighter comrades. As siege breakers they often are not issued in immense numbers and their hungry chassis drains their power core rapidly limiting their range. Saxon forces favor a lighter variant that can meets between a traditional Axe and a Sword class chassis but, more typical models much like Hammer and Mace classes do poorly with put support.
Hammer/mace class: Siege weapons at heart, most Hammer and Mace class operate in static defensive positions. While Lances maneuver across the field to flank and Axe class crush the line with direct force and smashing through them. The hammer class pounds the enemy from afar cracking armor with a steady cannon fire. Though heavily armored most Hammer class cannot move well and when directly attacked easily crumple under dedicated fire as their weapons are designed for supporting other units.
Thank you to who ever formatted the Doc!

>>61619593The Scimitar is a dastardly foe because it is the size of an arming sword class but has the speed of a short sword class. Its weapons are short-ranged and meant to shred lighter targets, as opposed to the more balanced layouts of Avalon-style armaments. Skilled scimitar pilots have been known to take on squads of daggers and shortswords on their own and emerge victorious, while a longsword-armed knight in a similar situation most likely would have been swamped. However, scimitar-classes have nearly zero effectiveness against heavy armor.
>>61620768What's the point of these if you have tanks?
>>61621269True maybe Hammers and Maces are used to classify Tanks? Makes sense as we've seen Monks use them.
>>61621338It would be nice to let them have a place on the battlefield, not equal to mechs but still making a difference.
>>61621377I think they fit well as Tanks after all Religious orders were not typically allowed bladed weapons as such having them not allowed Cavaliers and instead relegated to operating tanks is fitting.
>>61620115>Brood Mothers - Lots of Teeth? Drones??Carriers for drone-fighters. They're quick and numerous but their weapons aren't very strong and they crumple like paper.
Hammer Class: Whilst Knights typically command mighty Cavaliers. Commoners, priests and mercenary forces are relegated to the command of Tanks. The modern Tank descends from a Roman model referred to as the Cudgel. These simple machines run on motors powered by Biofuels or petrochemicals and wield solid slug rounds as their main armament.
>>61621607I can see it, they're likely an airborne model that keeps on the move dispatching drones to attack the space lanes or soft targets.
>>61597280Holy shit. I didn't expect this to finish one thread, let alone get a second.
>>61621689Mace class: Derived from Hammers the Mace Class was designed as an aggressor and counter to Cavaliers in particular. These vehicles mount a fixed cannon of heavier strength than Hammers. Typically energy based.
>>61622018well i supose you are the original OPwell now you created a sci fi fantasie universefeel proud of yourselve

>>61620115>True Dragon - the Most Dangerous FoesUntil the Tarrasque shows up.
>>61622051Flail: The flail class is lighter and smaller than most modern tanks. Built for fighting within built up city escapes. The flail originates from Roman anti infantry designs. Its scatter cannon designed to pelt a narrow street with hyper velocity shrapnel or incendiary rounds to burn out resistance, however it lacks the muzzle velocity of Hammers giving it little anti vehicle capability.

>>61623095>minor world only gets one knightMakes no sense, but feels very thematic considering all the feudal trappings of the setting.
>>61623290I mean could just be he was nearest or was being a glory hound.
Arming sword class - medium sized Cavaliers the Arming Sword has been the go to class for many Knights within the Round Table. A balance of speed and power that responds to its master and can withstand an attack. The arming sword has become something of a standard for knights freshly promoted. This does lend it the reputation of being a beginner's weapon but, in skilled hands it can be as deadly as it's heavier brothers.
>>61623446Longsword class - largest of the balanced units used by most corps, the longsword became the symbol of Knightly valor. In part due to the reputation of such auspicious machines as the EX-Caliber. Able to square off with Dragons and come out of the fight in one piece. Many knights favor the hard hitting capabilities of this machine.
>>61623464Claymore class - within the Highlands of the Gravity well of Sol the Claymore is King. This machine was forged to duel in space with Morrigans brood and Void Raiders. An antiship unit at heart the Claymore is a fast moving hard hitting weapon. However, its speed and power are checked by a weak reactor for its massive size and deceptively thin armor.

>>61611318>Eh there is plenty of site for silly, if you get good ideas.I meant that the setting doesn't really fit having a macguffin that everyone would be going for because they already have their own reasonable objectives, and if the grail is introduced most plot progression would stop so that everyone could beeline toward the grail.
So, where's the Questing Beast?
>>61619593The Gladius Class Cavalier:The very first model of standardized military cavaliers, developed during RoME Empire. By the Dragon Conflit it has horribly outdated and classed as light mecha with okay offensive power (particularly if its short ranged machine guns had been upgraded) but close to zero defences against modern anti-mecha weaponry.Almost all remaining Gladii were destroyed in the Conflict, but there was three cases when small groups of Gladii fought with exceptional bravery and kiilcounts (The battle of Nord, the second battle of Luna and the Ambush at Paridium), solifying the image of the Gladius being a tough little motherf*cker. Dragon Conflict thus has been called as the final war of these honoured walkers. As such there has been calls to remake the class (not yet answered) while the remaining working ones have been delegaded to museums or ceremonial duties.
>>61624610The Grial or Grail is a myth, or some have called it a curse of Morrigan. Or a blessing of Merlin. It is known that some quest for it but most sane Knights and commoners do not bother time with it. According to tales of those times, even King Arthur dismissed its idea.>Keep it in the setting because it is cool but it should _not_ become the focus point. The GM can then use it if they want but lets not build the setting around it.
>>61621454I like that, but man, Religious orders were usually armed better than normal knights, at least in my country, where they were the mailed fist, sword wielding, horse charging arm of the church in the reconquista and darling of all the Kings because they didn't use the treasure but were self suficient for the most part and kept the moors in they lands.
>>61626085Religious organizations do not seem to be that large power in this setting. The Corps rule the Round Table and we even lack a Space (Green Bible?) Pope. Instead we have the AI Merlin. In this setting RoME did not create an all-powerful clergy, it was just destroyed by civil wars (perhaps orchestrated by the Corps?)Thus it would make sense for monks etc to have less powerful vehicles etc. Idea for the Tank Monks: They do not (anymore?) have monasteries, their Tanks are their own Monasteries what travels with them.
>>61626272>Idea for the Tank Monks: They do not (anymore?) have monasteries, their Tanks are their own Monasteries what travels with them.Sounds good.
>>61626354>>61626272depending on the monks you could consider boats or airships as the traveling monasteries.
>>61626272I feel they are more skulky than in your face like they were in medieval times. So, so far, we have. The Merlin Green bible throwing they lot with avalone, the Morrigan Transhumanist with the hardcore Mordred, the Sidhe pagans (and they weird ideas), and what more? And I don't see why they wouldn't have castles/monasteries, they are the servants of merlin, the ones than make the fusion engines after all. Perhaps Merlin doesn't want them to be armed, and use old civilian models without weapons, like old prospector models, able to bulk up provisions and logistic material but useless in a fight.
>>61626974The advantage I see in that is Merlin has a way to soft power influence remote worlds in that way, in hidden humanitarian mision and the likes. The corps would clean they hands not seeing anything specially dangerous coming in, easy to be destroyed in a pinch, and with the added value of developing scorched areas for free, than then you could tax or something down the road. The Friars and Monks could be pitched as blue helmets, armed to maintain the peace, and another of they jobs would be documenting stuff as a legitimate answer of why they are here.>Those tanks? You never know when a wild dragon or pesky robber baron will apear Sir, don't fret over it.
The monks of the Green Bible(often derided and called Greenies) are an old order. Said to have originated upon Earth itself. The monks practice a form of worship known as new edenism. They travel world to world and ensure thst they are being properly terraformed. It was said during their first years traveling the stars they had s singular leader but, with the creation of Merlin dubbed it their new pope as s portion of the Ai split and became known as the Green Man. Many of the monks view what the Mordred Company did as blasphemy as they subverted the holy tools of terraformation for war. As they travel the stars in their monastery ships or build Research shrines the monks bring culture and services where they venture.
nearly zero effectiveness against heavy armor.Stiletto class - stiletto are deceptive, this is a simple fact of their design and one that relegates them to less honourable knights. As small as a short sword class these machines sport at first glance little armor and little weaponry. This however,is a ruse. Hidden within is a suite of powerful EWAC that blinds its foes sensors and more alarmingly a set of plasma blades. Weaponry typically used only by larger arming sword class Cavaliers. This allows the stiletto to blind and close in on its quarry and then dispatch it with a singular armor piercing blow to a vital location.
I'd be interested to hear how Palamedes fits into all this.
>>61627893I mean the thing thst comes into question is how do you fit Iseult in, really its the same with guinevere as well.
>>61627529Seems that we have the religion side somewhat covered. Good.>What is the current situation of the setting? The Dragon War/Conflict happened few generations ago but what are the current plotlines potential Players could begin to influence. Corporation Wars? Pirates/Dark Knights? The return of Morrigan (or her cultists)? The breakup of the civilization into another time of inter-corp warfare (perhaps called the Crusades?)We should probably detail few plothooks for the many Corps and areas of Avalon Universe. Perhaps even a Map?>This is the era man finds itself in. One of once lofty heights and of dark madness. One in which Corporate knights now battle for their masters astride the armored giants of the Cavaliers and Castle Ships trade blows in orbit. This is a world of ancient mystery and high technology, this is Swords of Avalon.
>>61628015Morrigan likely isn't dead just gravely wounded. It was described as turning Clarent into an avatar for itself so perhaps its become scattered and broken into many pieces? We also know Morgan La Fey is still out there...somehow. And villains like the green knight seem to appear as well.
>>61628086These all are really large-scale Quests. What a starting player/knights with just an Arming Swords would be facing?
>>61628213True for thst your likely be looking at say inter-corp warfare perhaps tensions have flared between your Corp and other or a minor dragon has made its way in system?
>>61628213Rober gangs in backwater worlds, Morrigan cultists fucking up terraforming projects, unearthed dragon teeths than some dumb, dumb peasant tough would get him some money and are now active and fucking shit up, space vikings have captured a Ceos daughter and the CEO wants the PC to follow them, industrial espionage, the PC are pawns in a game between two mini Corps...
>>61628288A group of green monks are on pilgrimage to a nearby star system and need an escort while they attend the terraformers there. Your CEO-lord has sent you on a quest to retake a colony from another Corp. Little do you know its a ploy to ensure someone in the party is disgraced or killed to ensure his power.
>>61628288A member of the board wishes to have a new cavalier for his collection and the knights must find a RoMan Gladius known as the Brutus
Brood mothers sometimes referred as Black Queens are unique Dragon Class weapons. All but unarmed these machine beasts are derived from the mobile assemblers that ancient Terraformers made use of. Bulky monsters they rarely leave their lairs and instead belch forth swarms of small drones to attack enemies in a suicidal fashion. In addition given enough time a brood mother may produce another Dragon Class making these perhaps the most dangerous of foes.
>>61628514After losing a string of Brood Mothers to Spear and Axe charges, Morrigan armed the Black Queens with a ultimate defence: Powerful shields protect them from artillery and if defeated in close combat they would detonate the fission-based shield generators, surely killing their opponents and polluting the lamdscape for ages. This solified the hated reputation of "Morrigans Bitches" but many more Knights made the ultimate sacrifice, martyring themselves in order to feöö these dire foes.
Baslisk class: The Basilisk is a medium sized Dragon but, one of the most feared. For it poisons all around it. These Dragons are vile creations, with fissionable material leaking from then at all times. The Basilisk poisons the very land around it, the curse of irradiation afflicting those that draw close to it. On top of such a horrid affliction the beast sports a crown of metallic thorns. From these come interference that disrupts Cavaliers ability to communicate and fight.
>>61628799Basilisk are able to fight, their teeth and claws comprised on high frequency blades that rend lighter Cavaliers into shreds. Though lacking a plasma breath weapon its vexing and poisonous nature more than makes up for it, area denial units at their core Basilisks were often dropped upon verdant worlds leaving fields of rotting crops and poisoned waters in their wake.
>>61628884So thoughts? I tried to give it a bit of grounding in the actual myths of it.
>>61629046Very nice. You have put some nice spins on some of the stuff I came up with.
>>61629127Trying to keep things spicy really. I've also been putting my take on Spear class Cavaliers. So take a look and let me know. I also focused on why pike might not be as common.
Bastard class - The Bastard class was conceived in the bloody days and weeks following the battle of Axos. Gallahad Mercantile had held the world, it being a gift from its parent Company LanceLot. Axos however was a key Foundry for Cavaliers for the Alpha Franks and specialized in particular in Longsword manufacture. This put pressure upon the system as its other foundry worlds Toulon and Marseilles to take up the slack. This would lead initially to the Franciscan and more importantly the Bastard. Designed to make up for the lack of longswords the Bastard uses an Arming Frame modified to handle heavier armor and weaponry. This gave the Alpha Frank's a dragon killer albeit a finicky one. Many Avalonian knights claim that it is overly complicated to pilot, and that the smaller reactor leads to a machine thst is very demanding in the field. The Alpha Franks merely shrug their shoulders at such concerns.
>>61629785And the other half of the Alpha Frank stopgap.Francisca class - As with the Bastard, the Francisca was born of need rather than want. With the fall of Axos the heavier Cavaliers of the Alpha Frank's were stalled in production. The smallest of the axe class the Francisca was based off of the short sword chassis. Armored up and space capable the Francisca gained a reputation for being a hard wearing and hard hitting cavalier. This small cavalier sports some of the heaviest weaponry for its tonnage. Able to go toe to toe with even Gryphons.
>>61624610>if the grail is introduced most plot progression would stop so that everyone could beeline toward the grailThe actual Arthurian myths show how you could handle this.
>>61628438Shows the CEOs dickish ways pretty well.>>61628360If I Was a CEO I would do stuff like that.
>>61628884>>61628799I already hate basilisks, killing live for the heck of it makes my blood boil. It also means lots of knights would have been armored specially to be protected for radiation and all that, perhaps even specialized to fight determined kinds of dragons.
>>61631072It was kinda the intent. I wouldn't imagine they're super common but there are enough that killing them is a priority. Any suggestions of what I should tackle next?
Alphyn A servitor unit to Dragons the Alphyn is used frequently as a scouting force. Quadrepedal machines they move in small packs ahead of their masters. Armed with vibro claws and a head mounted laser these machine beasts can be troublesome for ground forces. Small enough to get inside buildings, many knights mistakenly consider them a non-threat. This has sadly more often than not proven wrong as though small in stature they can easily over whelm light Cavaliers, cutting them apart and ripping the pilot from the cockpit to be torn to bloody pieces. Some skilled Techno-savants have managed to tame these beasts tying them to a Cavaliers battle mind and providing the knight his own hunting beast.
>>61631230Mercenary forces/the common merc Knight Cavaliers
So,what sort of classes/archetypes would we see in a setting like this?
>>61633352Juglar bands paid to preach the deeds of Knights.Low level militaria dudes surviving in an hostile world. Mecha Knights doing mecha knights things. CEO game of thrones. War, war nevers changes between corporations or other humans nations. Kill the Heretic. Sidhe fuckery cults. Planet colonization. Plunderers of the Lost cities. Trade in the frontier. Robber knights adventurers. Espionage between corporations. Btw, we should develop the not-asian dragon nations and the rest of "aliens" apart of the sidhe, they aren't getting much atention.
>>61633305The mercenary traditions of Avalonian space are overall recent. The Dragon's war that had united much of humanity having passed had left many people without work and a skill set best suited to killing. To which ends the first Mercenary bands came to be. Often little more than paid thugs bands of mercenaries travel the star systems searching for work.without Corp resources however they more often than not are limited to single star systems or to finding ways to access the Starways. With the recent fall of Mordred Corp and its liquidation of many assets this has become more and more possible however and, many are not against 9plumbing the ruins of a world to access ancient caches of RoMan technology in hopes of securing enough money to become 'spaced'
>>61633735Particularly fortunate Troupes might find a patron. Such as the Monks of the Green Bible or a smaller Corp. These lucky souls often earn his moniker Pauper Knights as though they are better outfitted than their peers they still lack the prestige or rights a true knight might hold. Those thst cannot or turn truly desperate may resort to the ghoulish act of scouring battle sites for working Cavaliers and Cuirass or, even dragon bones to build something that might be called a weapon. Notably this does not pertain to the Saxons, these savage star farers come from worlds where mercenary work has been common for centuries and large companies of Saxon mercenaries are little different than Avalonian Corps in terms of gear and power.
>>61633982What about Freelances?
>>61634069Freelances typically arise from knights whose Corp no longer exist. These lordless knights often retain some of the honor and dignity they held. Many even retain their castles and Cavaliers offering their services to planets or Corporate houses as needed. Though their equipment is not usually the most modern. They wield it far more skillfully than even some younger lords with their top of the line models. Freelances may also hire on whole mercenary troops to bolster their own ranks. Outfitting them and paying what they can and sharing in rewards.
>>61634752For merc specific Cavaliers: Sword class: Sell-swordMesserBollock dagger
>>61634888Mercs probs would nor hsve *unique* Cavaliers, but might have thrir own variants or chaotic ships constructed out of several mechas?
>>61636269True but more likely there are upgunned civilian models though I could see Saxons having some special mercenary units.
>>61634888The Sell-sword class is less an official model and more a designation. Many Corps over time decommission older model Arming and Long swords. Stripping put components that can be reused and selling the remainder. Sell-swords are that remainder. Cobbled from spare parts, different manufacturers and different decades no two are quite alike but, each is highly personalized to its user. Sell swords fall typically into arming sword tonnage but do not sport nearly as much actual armor or weapons as much of this bulk is stop gap measures to ensure the machine keeps running.
How are the Castleships categorized? They are modular yes but some tonnage/amoumt of weapons-based system could work?Perhapst hey are categorized in arrow-styles?

I have been thinking about duels, tournaments and jousts. They should probably exist as well. Semi-ritualised between corps with weapons testing on the side?
>>61643813Make it about scoring points like in real jousting, not unhorsing your foe. It's kind of hard to safely "unmech" someone.
>>61643925Remote controlled? Useless in real war with jamming devices but in a controlled situation with short ranges doable?Or just a honor code of "lets not hit eachother in the cockpits but be ready to use your ejection seat if an accident happens"
>>61643925>>61644096Or that the ejection setup is really easily triggered. Then you have unmeching?
>>61643813>>61643925>>61644096>>61644111Buhurt, but with robots.
>>61644111I love that. If you win you could get the mech or demand they pay you the cost of it, like in medieval times, where you got the armor/horse of the loser.
>>61644111Maybe score enough points and eject?
>>61645178That's a neat way of handling getting better mecha too. Maybe winning your mech is seen as a huge sign of respect.
>>61647937And a big loss of face for the loser. Imagine some Darling from a CEO lose a high level, herency tier, to some Dagger jokey. It would be talked in worlds around.
>>61648007It also probably keeps people pretty entertained, I could see it being a way for the common man to blow off steam. Betting on outcomes or just watching the spectacle
>>61648363I like that, like ye old gladiatorial games or WWE. With the Good (local boys) and bad guys.
>>61648470The historical Jousting/Melee Tourney circuit was likely similar. They even had mysterious White Knights and Black Knights.
>>61648363The white knight represents perhaps Avalone virtues or even Rome ones, while the BK is presented as dragon lover, Mordred company ex employe etc?
>>61648702I like the idea Corps might use it as a WWE analogue
A salacious bump
>>61621377The bigger ones could be used to fight castles or something, they could be called rams.War Picks for anti-Knights works, probably with lots of fast firing weapons to shread everything in they path. Maces and Hammers would be more general use ones.
>>61650687I could see that working pretty well. Rams are massive siege tanks while Picks are designed to counter Cavaliers by using pinpoint shots.
What about space mechs? They could be used to fight in asteroids or old O'neal cilinders, searching for lurking dragons and the rest of Morrigan monsters.
>>61651496In the Doc the Lance is more or less space bound and the same with the Claymore.some variants might also be space viable.
>>61651630So some are specialized and others can be adapted? Cool. I guess some men at arms with stank power armors could do it too.
>>61651685Likely you'd see men at arms doing stuff in corridors
So what might be some classes of man at arms power armor. We see them called Cuirass a lot is thst the most common?
>>61651949Perhaps from going without exo armor to nearly dreadnaught armors/landmates. Using helmets to classify them? I'm out of juice and going to bed tough.
>>61651496>>61651630Most Cavaliers can be space worthy if modified, but mostly it is so heavy changes needed that it is not worth it.The legendary Cavaliers, such as X-Caliber, where different as they _could_ change between Surface and Space rather easily. This type of Adaptability has been retained in some latewar Arming Swords and Longswords but you could build ten normal Longswords with the price of one Adaptable Longsword. Thus mostly there is mostly just specialized space-variants. And remember that in space battles the Castles and Lairs probably outclass most of Cavaliers anyway which of course leads to daring and insane boarding attacks by both Cavaliers(or Cuirasses?) and Dragons >Rumours that the Mongolian Shipyards are designing an easy-to-connect thruster pack codenamed HORSE for Cavaliers are mere fabrications.>Don't we also have some arrow-classed space fighters? Lets keep them rare so focus does not leave mechas too much. Perhaps the fighters are often rather bad versus Dragons so Cavaliers are needed against them?
>>61652688Unlike Cavaliers or castles Arrow classes can't maneuver fast enough to counter the hard hitting dragons.
>>61652688I'd almost say Xcal is probably able to go through atmosphere and space with no modifications.

The Galea was a stample of RoME era soldiers much before the Gladius was introduced, replasing the nonuniforn Coolus desings. One might say that it was Galea that kept RoME standing for its the three centuries.Compared to the Cavaliers, there exists a far more varied variants of Cuirassers. Almost every planet or major militaristic corp have their on marks. The now aging Shorwell of Saxons is probably the most famous of these, an agile yet deadly with it accurate grenade launcher.Yet it has been noted that Cuirassiers no longer can survive on their own at the battlefield. During the Dragon Conflict there was too many specifically anti-infantry variants that Cuirassiers were delegadted to mostly secondary duties of protecting Hammers, guarding locations, Knight Recovery, boarding actions and Dragons Teeth destruction.Yet even the Knights know that without the humble sacrifice of thousands Cuirasses the Dragon Conflict would not have been a total massacre.
>>61659684I like it.
>>61659120The Galatine is unique to Gawain industries. Built upon a longsword chassis, the machine was meant to the be companies rival to Ex-Caliber. Though bound to space the Galatine uses unique derivations from Sidhe ruins in particular the way some use Solar Energy. The Galatine shimmers with energy and, when able to collect the light of a star, weaponize it. Able to create blades of intense energetic plasma or cloak itself in a prismatic armor the Galatine is only bestowed upon the heir apparent of Gawains CEO.
>>61659684For every Cavalier that fell, ten Cuirassiers died. For every Dragon that fell, a hundred Cuirassiers died. For every Lair that was destroyed, a thousand Cuirassiers died.-A Saxon saying. Their Man-At-Arms forces toon exceptionally hard casualties during the Dragon Conflict.
>>61661508So,would a Gambeson just be a Kevlar vest?
So we get all the knights and migthy Corps armies, but what about the defeated, the poor, the damned, the ones than barely live in half terraformed worlds where Morrigan and Morded wrecked shit?
>>61661779Likely they're just keeping barely alive. Some might turn to raiding or devolving into a primitive existence. It was mentioned when Dragons are trying to murder the known universe they turn into akinda Horizon Zero Dawn type thing where machine beasts roam the planet twrraforming it.
>>61661821That could be a cool duality. They take and give live in the frontier. People would use the pieces of those dragons to make machines I wager, but that was said to usually end badly.
>>61661863Would make sense. Also, could lead to some corporate nobility use them as hunting grounds. Landing upon then to hunt dangerous defensive constructs. Maybe this is Questing Beasts come about?
>>61661546Mostly yes, but it already insanely dangerous. I dig that this setting has progressed so far that the _least_ armor a soldier needs to be effective on the battlefield is some type of exoskeleton.Of course there are situations where even Cuirassiers are too bulky: infiltration, espionage and so forth regular PC missions. But even a single Dragons Teeth is a horrible opponent for just a man with a gun.
>>61661957Which is what makes it so interesting.I almost wonder if you would see especially nobles trying to best foes without their Cavaliers or Cuirass to show their skills off.
So what's our Italy and Spain analogue?
Of the Minor Dragons the Lindwurm is one of the most rightly feared. Morrigan and her brood found thst enough the Dragon's Teeth could fight upon the field they lacked the raw power to crack heavily replaced positions within structures. To this end the Lindwurm was born. A winding serpentine machine. The Lindwurm specializes in close quarters warfare winding through corridors and rubble only to burst forth rending men limb from limb with Vibro Claws and teeth. Many a msn at arms has fallen to these lurking horrors. Unique to Lindwurm is their ability to persist, feeding upon fuel stores and scrap metal to recover and repair its strength. This means upon some misbegotten planets they still lurk. More horrifying some rare variants have been able to grow over the decades. Adding more motive cores or enlarging and changing weapons. Though many Lindwurm posses weaponized plasma breath some insidious models born from Basilisk broods possess radioactive exhalations or chemically derived curses. Some even secrete toxic lubricants to poison their lairs with.
>>61662028Italy was famous for they armor making, Spain for they sword making (toledo blades specially).Spain should be tied fighting some kind of enemy, dragons? Humans with dragon allies? Than had them in the wall, but they have reversed it after a while, and are now wining territory. Italy, a mess of bizantine politics and ex-Rome Corps I guess.
>>61662250Makes sense, I could see notSpain having dealt with their own Native Dragons that may have been infected by Morrigan and then going full Reconquista
>>61662222Wyverns are one of the oldest model of Dragon-spawn. Based off of ancient aerospace vehicles, these have been twisted into machines of war. Wyverns are not only space capable but also fearsome in the atmosphere able to switch between the two with ease. Able to attack with vibro claws and forward mounted mass drivers that punch holes in light armor. To add insult Wyvern act as bombers for dragon fleets, dispensing specially created cocktails of viral and chemical agents which poison living things, killing them painfully as tissues liquify and slough from bone for hours and days.
>>61662299Funny enough, Snakes/Dragons are very, very common in Spanish myths and folklore, specially in the north. One of the Basque prince was said to be the son of a mythical god/dragon/snake called Sugaar, Juan Zuari. Son of a Scotland princess and a local Numen, it was choosen to be the first lord of Vizcaya. Also the Knight books in Spain were very popular, so its pretty easy to steal stuff from them. El Cid,Tiran lo Blanc Amadis de Gaula etc.
>>61662299>>61662471The Hispania Cluster has seen major catastrophes, perhaps even more than any other area of former RoME colonies. Visigothic conquest was bloody and dark chapter of RoMEs downfall. But from those times hail the legendary Hispanic cavalierforging (and they often boast that the first Gladii had as well been developed there and not at Mars)Particularly over 70 percent of the Cluster was overtaken by Mordred - alighned cybertechs during the Dragon Conflict. Only with the assistance of Alpha Franks they turned the time but progress is slow. Yet the Cluster is a perfect destination for Knights looking for Glory and Adventure. The area is known for many smaller types of drakes, often labelled Great Snakes.

What music would Knights use for combat?Something like that?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g04N0bYUwIA
>>61663239>>61662716add it to the lore on the doc, this will be our first important location
>>61663308Will later today as I'm in the midst of a hop harvest. But,what's Spain/Madrid sectors notable worlds? What's the cultures like do they have holidays? Famous heroes? Villains of note?
>>61663900Thats easy, I can do that. The Galician sector should have heavy Sidhe influence, and be indecisive in the great scale of things. Cantabrians hunker down and be raiders with lots of love for freedom, and Asturians should be pretty hardcore if tech poor warriors, both of those have very old alliances and be pretty good in Space, probably the ones than have started the reconquest. Basques prefere to be left alone but you can find they Castles in the most weird places, heavy industry and tough, quite difficult in they relations with outsiders, unless they are the navarrans. Navarrans are more expansionist and with strong ties with the Alpha Franks, Riojans mostly agriculturist, Aragonese, they were know to make good helmets, and being good riders/knights too, with relations with the catalan sector, than are the most merchant inclined and very influenced be the Alpha Franks. Now we can go with the Castillians, the recent reconquered parts, they could have reclaimed old tech and factories than produce good Knights/Cavaliers. Valencians love fire, and would prefer dakka over anything else.
>>61663900>>61664133I suggest that we use cities, mountains etc names for planets. So we have the planet of
>>61664394That makes the most sense. With nebula and the like named after straits
>>61664133So what might be some planet names as well, or unique cavalier designs?
>>61658255>>61659120Gawain isn't the Green Knight, he merely has one of his most famous adventures with him. The Green Knight is Sir Bernlak of the High Wastes, the Brute Knight of the Lake.
>>61665622Kinds or unique names?Falcata, Sable, Espada,Bracamante,Alflanje/cimitarra(this could be the ones than use dragon parts) could be used for mediums.Montante is the biggest of the Swords kind,Verdugo, Estoque, Espada Bastarda or Espada larga could work for the rest of big guys.Daggers? Daga, Cuchillo, Puñal, Misericordia, Vizcaina, Puntilla.Hacha, Destral for Axes etc.Unique names for Corps, if we go with Cavalry novels, Rodrigo, Tirant, Amadis would be the most important ones. Tizona, Colada, for high end Cavaliers. And I can find much more if I go regional, Spain has four languages and lots of dialects. >>61664394Mountains, sacred mountains are everywhere and are very "felt".
>>61663308>a bunch of Spanish-speakers adapt Welsh-British mythology into a splendid sci-fi mecha setting>"first important location" is a Spain cognate>not Camelot>not Avalon>not CarbonekI'm not sure about this guys... I mean of course Spain deserves inclusion, but before even the key locations of the setting? I feel some broad decisions about the !British Isles should be considered before fleshing out foreign lands like France, Spain, or Denmark. These latter are important for a fuller flavour and aesthetic palette, but are expansion pack material in comparison.
>>61666149Even if the main location of the setting is !Spain - a valid and honestly very interesting and oblique way of approaching the Arthurian myths that will open up many creative possibilities - it is useful to think about what far-off things are happening or not happening in !British Isles.
>>61666149You have not read the setting doc, you can fuck right off.
>>61666364I bow to the will of the thread.
>>61666364Don't be a bully anon. Perhaps he has some valid points.>>61666149The doc bro said he wanted some info about the place, and I provided, but I tought we had Avallone system and a good deal of the Knight crops pretty well placed already. What did we miss?
>>61666364not bully on the thread anonhe is just giving his opinion>>61666149well you are right about that,we should include the legend locations too,but dont forget this world building grow in a organic way (that mean we dont a clear order or agenda,we just follow a general idea and some sugesttions from me and the dockun)
The LairsThe laird are the home fortress of the dragons hordes, they can be constructed or be transformed from a already existing location, this fortress are traps, factories and home at the same time, having factories inside their walls, monsters on the halls and great rooms were the lieutenants of morrigan and the dragons create their own little kingdoms of decay and pain , laboratories were the nature of life itself is corrupted and reborn on abominations.
>>61666313Nah, the main location of the place is Avallone, it needs more polish but I think we had some stuff in each planet.
>>61666536>>61666788yes.>>61666421We have not covered major locations of Arthurian myths and/or British Island. Should they be planets/moons and/or locations near/at Solar System, then the outer reaches are other parts of Europe? Ill start.>The Observatory of LindisfarneSituated on a desolate water-world in deep galactic north, Lindisfarne is a safe pilgrimage location of the Tank Monks for it houses several databanks who have survived the Dragon War intact and uncorrupted. There the Men in Green toil endlesly recovering data from ages long gone while others look at the stars and scout distant worlds for colonisations. As such the whole location is completely undefended save few anti-Dragon Cavaliers, as no Corporation is willing to risk accidentally damaging the databanks. Rumours say that it also contains a backup of Merlin himself>>61666313!Spain aka Hispania is interesting a because it lacks the regimented corporation feeling of Avalon. More possibility for adventure and progress there. Of course we should map the other Far Reaches as well but lets Other things that are not very well detailed:-The Dragon Conflict and Arthurs conflicts.-How has situations evolved since the Dragon WarAlso the Doc has some things never mentioned here or are outdated. It probs could need some checkings
>>61666903My bad,but yes if things need updating please do as needed.with that said we should flesh out Avalon/Sol System so lets start at the very first planet, Mercury and work our way outwards.
>>61667693To proceed in this standard order seems to violate the intended organic nature of the world-building, outlined in >>61666536. It sounds like a good idea to proceed when and where we have ideas, questions, or problems rather than by rote.
>>61666903>We have not covered major locations of Arthurian myths and/or British Island. >>61668793Don't forget Mars is terraformed actually how extensive was Terraforming in RoMe days?
>>61670329well it would terraform atmospheric conditions ,and mineral surface so is posible to allow life, yet it cant change geography at large
>>61668217Titan has become the Saxon heartland. Orbital vivariums circle the planet and below vast refineries process the hydrocarbons into fertilizer, polymers and other useful materials to feed the growth of the stripling culture. Ancient water ice is mined and brought to supply needs of colonial development. Asteroids hauled from the far belts and inner system and transformed into cities for Saxonites.
>>61671455added to the lore
>>61668217Within Celt space the Wealth of the Giants kingdom. From Europa its vast Mantle ocean changed to support life comes shoals of fish engineered to live their by the great scientists of RoME. Upon Ganymede though is the crown jewel habitat domes cover vast swathes of land. Within them carefully tended fields and rolling green hills. Self co rained these dome produce much of the fresh foods in the outer system and, the finest wool, Celtic sheep are prized as they one of the last remaining strains of the wooly beasts.
>>61671877However, the Celts also harbor misery. Up on the barren wastes of IO lays the Prison pit of Chirk. Here corporate nobility that has been banished or disgraced are sent to rot. Commoners toil within its foundries processing rare ore and minerals to fuel Celt industry and wardens roam the reinforced halls in Cuirass.
>>61671877Is it weird to have space Welsh have Space Sheep
So,the Green monks are kinda like trchpriests?
Of laird of dragons there is several varieties:Corrupted lairsGrown lairs And living lairs
>>61674726Kind of, though from what I've read they're less focused on toasters and more focused on making damn sure the gardening gets done right and proper.
>>61665754f-fuck. I might have to re-do some of my waifu ideas now.
>>61676035Don't let the real life gender of a historical figure prevent you from making them a waifu.
good luck lads
>>61676035Remember that the Arthurian Knights (save Arthur) are giving names to Corporations rather than being individuals themselves. Waifus can still exist.
>>61676277I'm thinking Yvaine (or some iteration thereof) being a fiery pilot wearing a fluffy red fur jacket (lions mane) and maybe orange or red hair.I can't see many others being waifus.Maybe Esclados (female) being a doe instead of a buck or stag?
>>61676328Leona of Yvaine Industries. Gael colonist orphaned during a Dragon attack that was repelled by a Yvaine Knight. Joined the Yvaine knight's cohort and worked her way up from Page to Man-at-Arms to full Knighthood to fight alongside her hero. Noted achievements have been tearing her way through a Gigant as well as hunting down a squad of Black Knights.
>>61676558Iwould like to see other characters added to this setting before waifus.Who even is the CEO of PenDragon, the largest corp, anymore? With Arthur gone and Uther dead? >Increasingly mad Uther clones>Some distant relatives>The Leadership of Corporation has been taken over by some of Arthurs surviving companions but they arent as great leaders than dragonkillers. Plus they are getting old and their kids are varied bunch>Merlin/Tank Monks have stepped in for now in some way?
When's the inevitable discord gonna be created?
>>61677335lets wait at the third threadand that discord (if we create it)will be for worldbuilding in general not only for sword of avalon
>>61677345consider that /tg/ already has a world building discord.
>>61674726>>61675651The Green monks are kinda an interesting mix because they combine techpriests, druids, catholic monks and mages (with being with Merlin and all that). Plus they crew Tanks.

>>61674726>Mildred, they had stepped on the Tulips!>GET.THE.TANKS.

>>61677382Turns out they're just the universe's most strict gardening.
So should we include an overarching thread topic next time kinda like how generals do? Prompts can be super useful to get folk talking after all.
The Fae as they are called are a mysterious breed. The first Fae were found after children of Venusisn colonists had gone missing. They returned....changed. Language was hard and strange appetites befell them. Within the month the children expired wasting away without apparent cause, their eyes and hair color turning pale and body stone like. However, one in several, hundred that become turned thrive. The changes individuals still retain memories of their former self but, also imbued knowledge not possessed by any human mind. They become distant from the world around them. Their demeanor alien, inscrutable. Many Corps seek to have at least one Fae among their staff if just for bragging rights. Indeed the Tech-Witch of Mordred Corp Morgan La Fey is said to have been such s being.
So this setting is just an IBO+Battletech ripoff?
>>61679781The Close proximity to Sidhe ruins seems to trigger the change. Though the exact catalyst is an unknown as with so many things. Those that become infected by whatever agent brings about the change have little in the way of exact memory of that moment. Mentioning only the sound of laughter from, some distant place filling their comms, and lights dancing within the gloaming
>>61679808I guess? I mean it draws a lot from, different sources but its not like child soldiers are fighting battles or thst melee is king. As for battery I really don't know the setting well enough.
>>61679407can waifus be the topic or not because that could be a bad idea
>>61679918I'm,gonna say no...how about we actually start fleshing out the great Corporate houses first?
>>61679865The dragon war thing is literally IBO's Calamity War.
>>61679952Fair point but AI revolts are a common theme in sci-fi. It has beats from It but that's about it.
>>61679918Please no.Corp houses sound far more interesting and we could get fun new characters into here
Welcome to the second thread for Swords of Avalon, a TG made setting involving Arthurian legend, cyborgs, mecha and giant Robot Dragons. The link below is to the current Google doc that covers the TimeLine leading up to when the setting takes place, that being several decades after the climatic battle of Camlann in which the Rogue AI Morrigan was beaten back by the knights of the Great Corporate houses.Today's thread Topic, The Great Corporate Houses of the Round Table.first thread: >>61535005 → #Second thread: >>61597280doc with the lore:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Cm16GUoQtg5IqTe0FM9dKD15TpJGpkOf0Zzi5TS3BGM/editOP for new thread as my connections being janky.

>>61679950>>61680038>>61680277ok, instead of waifus we should do something like corporate houses. But keep waifus in mind when we need some exposure at like thread 6 or 7, because having a waifu picture as the thread image will attract new posters.
