I've been playing a whole load of DOOM recently and the idea occurred to me 'What if the UAC won, and truly conquered hell for mankind, how would the world change?'This question grew in size and scope and eventually became a series of questions I would like to ask /tg/.How would you run games in a setting in which mankind conquered, teamed up with, or joined the forces of hell? What kind of plot-hooks could you use?How could this setting change existing classes or tropes in tabletop?Would Demons become PC's?If this was in a Sci-Fi focused setting, how would this affect interstellar relations? Would the aliens be cool with the fact that mankind embraced their own spiritual hell for power? All this and more sound like something fun for the board to toy around with.
>>59048749The Salvation war. It’s a shitty ass webstory that’s not worth your time but it does fit what you are looking for.
>>59050813Why settle for something shitty when the same thing could be done better?
>>59048749I did something like that for my last sci-fi campaign. Since the setting was the same my group has ever used and it started like a basic dungeons and dragons medieval fantasy setting, once magic, hells and heavens were real and commonly accessed until a major event caused all of those to stop being available. The souls being dispersed instead of gathered in specific places was one of the plot points of the campaign and the party at one point stumbled upon a secret laboratory that managed to access heaven and hell.Demons managed to survive rationing souls and their power and actually turning the hellish landscapes in a civilized (albeit amoral and intrinsically violent) nation while the celestial beings turned into rabid monstruosities without gods to serve (they died in the same cataclysmatic event of above). The galactic society established an embassy in hell and vice versa; since it was a culture similar to the ones coming from the d&d original planet, it had much more in common with them than those of other space faring races.I know it's not exactly what you thought about, but it's just an elaborate bump because you intrigued me and I kinda would like the discussion to begin.
How corrupted would Mankind become?Would humans as we understand them cease to exist?
>>59048749I do like the idea of humanity just refusing to believe in the supernatural, and treating hell with all its demons as just an alternate universe with alien life.Scientists plumbing the depths to try and create theories -- however wrong -- about why these "souls" are actually just some kind of ambient energy field, and how they're utterly sure they can domesticate the hellhounds.
>>59051870So basically like how the Tau treat Chaos in 40k?
>>59051895Pretty much, only being able to research it more, and still doing it badly.
>>59051870I like both that and the angle where hell is just resources.Hell opens up and the deal-making demons get out-lawyered by the legal teams for MegaCorporations, before long hell is being modernized and every skyscraper has a pentagram on it, the cars run off of brimstone, tortured souls are used as a power source, 'ash' and 'blood' become the hip new fragrances, and dark sorcery colleges open up under the tutelage of demons so ancient they remember toying with the monkeys that would become mankind. The earth jumps forward centuries in technology, mankind and demonkind suddenly share a culture, and no one is sure who exactly conquered who.
>>59051975>and no one is sure who exactly conquered who.And that is where your post went from good to gold.
bumping for potential
>>59051975Let's not forget about the possibility of human/demon marriage, provided they even look remotely as good as pic related.

>>59051975>>59052096this. Mankind becomes the weird faction. they're the race of dark sorcerer kings that the races just finding space travel encounter in horror. the only difference is the players are viewing this from the perspective of said empire where this was just part of the process some younger humans don't see what all the fuss is about, they just follow the orders. though the elder demons and humans that have stolen their power look at the galaxy hungrily. you can get some good "are we the baddies" moments from 18-21 conscripts that have forgotten that wearing bloodstained armor with a trapped soul as a targeting AI is terrifying
>>59048749I once had something akin to this. Not conquered, but that Hell on earth just kind of became a thing.Demons are really, really fond of making deals, Faustian bargains and the such. So when demons start existing on Earth they immediately take up the job their best at: law. Demons take the lawyer world by storm. Contract law, criminal law, business law, demons are the top lawyers in their field and reading the fine print is a real big deal. This secures demons some positions in the business world, and before you know it people are being contracted to work in Hell. It's a sweet deal for all invovled; Hell gets human buildings and ideas, and you get permanent employment (and boy fucking howdy does it mean permanent). Artificial souls are developed for the brand new demonic market, and start selling like hotcakes, in all kinds of flavours. Human dens of vice from clubs to gambling dens start cropping up all over Hell. More personable demons become household celebrity names, and are very promptly banned from running for office because letting a succubus into the race is just frankly unfair on everyone else.As it turns out, coming to the surface and tearing everything in sight is a terrible idea. But a man in a fancy suit able to trick you into handing over your house provided you sign the dotted line that feels like a great deal at the time? That works wonders. Also basically >>59051975 this. That's fucking perfect and way better than my ideas.
>>59051652We will not become corrupted. We will invade hell, cleanse it of all evil, and pave it with purity. Hell will be wrought into paradise.

>>59048749I am not sure, if you know it, but /aco/ generated rather impressive collection of greentexts about something resembling your idea. They call it NuDoom and if you have time and will to sieve through loads of smut, there is somewhat exploitable core based on human conquering the Nexus and Hell dimensions. Basically it goes:>DoomGuy obliterated Icon of Sin and everybody resembling someone in charge of Hell>DoomGuy is still ripping and tearing somewhere in Hell Realms>Demons without leadership and the Dark Presence whispering into their ears turn into your basic savage tribes>UAC started with exploiting zombies, later bring demons and use their skills and natural abilities in harsh conditions of Mars>UAC integrated demons into their power structure, so more capable demons keep simple demons in line>UAC colonized Hell like USA tried in Afghanistan/Iraq with military presence of combined human-demon army>Amalgam of Demon/Human culture emerges on Mars>Instead of spacefaring, humanity became dimensionfaring race of conquerors>DoomGuy is still somewhere out there
>>59048749 The real question you need to ask yourself is, what is Hell in this instance? What is its purpose? Why does it exist? Is it the Judeo-Christian plane of torment, or just some other dimensional hellscape? What exactly are demons?
>>59048749>What if the UAC won, and truly conquered hell for mankind, how would the world change?'If this is a western hell, i.e. an place of eternal torment for sinners, then the primary impact would be societal. People wouldn't be afraid to sin or die anymore, since the worse that would happen is that you'd end up in someplace under human control and thus with human rights.>How would you run games in a setting in which mankind conquered, teamed up with, or joined the forces of hell?Same as any other game. Scale the challenges to the players abilities. Give them a long term goal and recurring antagonist.>What kind of plot-hooks could you use?Demon rebellions and demon's rights activists. Eco terrorists who object to the strip mining of the pit.Humans only won the war because Satan was living on Earth already. Either he's coming back to take over, or he engineered humanity's conquest of hell after subverting Earth's governments>How could this setting change existing classes or tropes in tabletop? It doesn't have to change any.>Would Demons become PC's?Honestly, what's the point of having a game involving the conquest of hell if players can't be demons?>If this was in a Sci-Fi focused setting, how would this affect interstellar relations? Would the aliens be cool with the fact that mankind embraced their own spiritual hell for power?Take a nuanced approach. Some races find it abhorrent. Some find it impressive. Some have already done it themselves.Honestly, this isn't that original an idea. In Orthodox Christianity Jesus already conquered Hell via the resurrection, but Orthodox hell wasn't a place of punishment filled with demons it was just an underworld the souls of the dead were trapped in.
>>59055861>Hell is just a place the souls of the dead were trapped inIsn't that just Sheol from Judaism though? Hell feels kinda exemplified by the whole "Burning in the fires of torment" thing.
>>59048749currently building a doom RPG, premise is that he argent harvest is actually working but its an uphill fight and they still have breakaways and cultists, but also turncoats from hell sometimes on their side
>>59055842>As species mature and grow, their psychic signatures end up creating spiritual planes based off of their morality>As mankind takes to the stars and colonize mars, they hit critical mass and Hell and Heaven in a western sense become real>things are further complicated by the mess that human religion is>this results in old-testament loves-and-cares for-mankind Lucifer who is willing to bargain>And twisted, fire-and-brimstone hellSounds good?
>>59055929>Isn't that just Sheol from Judaism though? Yes, though it's also influence by pagan notions of the underworld like Hades. In fact it was literally referred to as Hades in some of the hymns/prayers at one of the Easter (Pascha) services I went to this week end.>Hell feels kinda exemplified by the whole "Burning in the fires of torment" thing. That's a depiction of hell which mostly developed in the western church during the middle ages. Though there are biblical references to a blazing furnace and lake of fire that the damned will be cast into at the end of the world. And obviously that's the setting we're talking about here. I'm just being pedantic out of boredom. ;)
>>59056276>That's a depiction of hell which mostly developed in the western church during the middle ages. Though there are biblical references to a blazing furnace and lake of fire that the damned will be cast into at the end of the world. And obviously that's the setting we're talking about here. I'm just being pedantic out of boredom. ;)That's not medieval. According to the Bible, in judgement the evil souls who refuse god will be cast into a fiery pit where they are permanently destroyed. Not suffering for all eternity, but permanently deleted.
>>59056319>Not suffering for all eternity, but permanently deleted.Right, that's the biblical "fiery pit". The "burning realm of eternal torment" version of hell we know from pop culture today originates in the late middle ages and is strongly influenced by Dante's Inferno.
>>59056388>It was all Dante's faultWhy am I not surprised? Though if I recall correctly not all of Hell was burning eternal fires, just some of it.For real though Dante gave us some of the coolest parts of Christian Mythos next to the Book of Revelations. Bless that guy's self-insert fanfiction, it was a good time.
>>59056435It is kind of crazy to think that if Dante had never written the Inferno we'd never have gotten to play Doom.
>>59056509Honestly that work did a lot to flesh out christian mythology in the popular consciousness. Many things would be different had it not come about.
>>59056584I'm sad the rest of the Divine Comedy doesn't get the kind of focus it should. For all the slightly messed up stuff in Inferno, there's some seriously fucked up stuff in Purgatory. Like how the sin of Envy means you have to walk up that mountain with your EYES SEWN SHUT.Also Paradise is trippy as all hell, people talk about Ezekiel as being all "You cannot comprehend angels, there forms are of Lovecraftian horrors!" but Paradiso is in that same vein except everything is bathed in blinding light and Dante goes on a magic trip through the solar system as it was understood then, it's nuts.
>>59050813Eh. I read it and it was pretty okay for a free web story; reportedly it WAS cleaned up from first-draft and turned into a book, but the series never got concluded because some twat from Croatia leaked the last part of the story and so no publisher's ever gonna pick it up.

>>59057099>>59057135If this is like, oldest-testament ancient Christianity, Lucifers sin was caring about mankind and wanting to oust god so he could help him.Don't you understand? Throw off the chains of heaven and embrace mans rightful, darker path.
>>59048749For untold ages, men have gone to Hell for reasons other than punishment. Some to save the souls of their loved ones, others for some ancient secret of immeserabule value, but none ever matched the sheer audacity, scale, or success of the Conquest. Decades of battle, billions of soldiers, trillions of pounds of currency spent on arms, armor and materiel. But to truly understand the Conquest, one must understand the man behind it: Imperator Cassius the Bold.Perhaps the man is immortal. Perhaps he is undead. Perhaps he is a god. Regardless, the longevity of the Imperator is undeniable. Once, centuries ago, he was a king, ruling over a minor land, seeking to expand his rule. Over the course of decades, neighbor after neighbor was brought under his heel, either by sword or by oath. As his power grew, others tried to appease him, offering gifts and treaties, thinking that their lands would be spared, until their folly was made manifest and their castles razed in the storm of the Imperator's rise. It took generations, but apparently he had the time and eventually, indeed, inevitably, all the world answered to mighty Cassius. From there, the real work began. Every ounce of silver in the world, rounded up and forged into weapons. Every scrap of arcane knowledge, gathered and studied in great detail. Demons summoned and captured, used for study or combat training. It was no secret: the world was not enough for the Imperator. He wanted Hell, too.(Cont.)
>>59057319Not just the darker path, but the sexier Bad Boy path too.All Satan wanted was to be recognised for his accomplishments, don't deny him that. Be his friend humanity, heal his broken heart with our collective love.
>>59057363(Cont.)Surprise was not an option for the Imperator, so his strategy lay instead to simply crush the Devils under a wall of silver and steel. Great armies, vast as the grains of sand, were assembled. Men, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, an entire generation of all his subjects, armed, equipped, trained, and ready--at least in word--to swarm the gates of Hell itself and cleanse the accursed pit.On the chosen day, now known to us as the Day of Fire, the armies of the Imperator assembled across the world, each one before a set of archmages, tasked with conducted with performing the largest act of synchronized magic in history. Portals of massive scale, large enough for entire regiments to walk through together, were torn open, connecting our world and the First Circle of Avernus. Millions died in the first day alone, swarming into the breaches, crashing into wave upon wave of Devils, wading through rivers of hellfire, until at last the foothold was secure. From there, history becomes vague and largely repetitive. Step by step, blow by blow, life by life, generations of mortals lived, fought, and died on their way down through the Nine Circles, every step paid for in rivers of blood. The Devils were ferocious, far stronger than any man dare dream of, but one by one, they fell before the endless horde of the Imperator. When a man fell, another stepped up to replace him. When one broke and tried to run, he was crushed under the feet of the formation in its inexorable march forward. Losses were catastrophic, yet immaterial; all that mattered was the drive forward and deeper. Step by step, blow by blow, life by life, the Conquest dragged on. Battle by battle, layer by layer, all that mattered was to keep moving, keep attacking, keep fighting. And that is why the gods abandoned us.(Cont.)
>>59057987(Cont.)The endless slaughter of the Conquest had done more than kill mortals, it had changed their very nature. A single goal drove all the world, funneling more and more men and materiel through the portals from which only those too wounded to fight emerged. The endless slaughter turned the stomachs of the gods of good, and they in turn set their backs to us. Suddenly deprived of their magic, the priests were unable to shield their men, and countless soldiers died as their protection from the fires of Hell suddenly faded. All was lost, the vast armies of the Imperator would all die, the Devils would rush back through the portals, and the world would burn with the wrath pent up from decades of invasion. But in the darkest of hours, the most unlikely of events occurred: Hell surrendered. The motivations of Asmodeus are often difficult to divine, but in this case, the assumption is easy: the mortals had pleased Him. We had proven ourselves even more capable than His previous minions, and in return he offered his patronage to us. Caught in the depths of Hell, burning alive without our old gods to protect us, it was an easy choice. And that is how the world became as we know it today. Devils became citizens, Hell became another province, and Asmodeus became our god. And here are you, a gang of fools with the gall to believe that you can change a world order forged in the blood of billions. Tell me, what is your great plan? Do you seek to overthrow the Imperator and restore the sovereignty of Hell? Do you wish to bring back the favor of the gods that abandoned us? Or do you have something even more insane in mind? You stand no chance, but at least it will be amusing to watch.

>>59055389First contact just got a whole lot more complicated.Mankind, this once-primitive race in some galactic backwater jumping centuries ahead in technology because they did the impossible. They manifested, and then conquered an entire realm designed from their own consciousness with the sole-purpose of consuming and torturing them. And that the 'tasteful symbology' was actually burning sigils put there to stop the vengeful damned from manifesting.Imagine him sitting down in the conference room, secretly terrified and suspecting mankind of being thoroughly insane when pic related manifests in acrid, choking smoke and otherworldly screaming from an unknown source, and instead of bearing down on him and tearing into his flesh, offers him a hand, a drink, and somewhere to hang his ceremonial robes.Imagine Allied-Alien Troops watching mankind wade into combat, weaponry firing screaming, burning bolts, screaming skulls, or burning hellfire into the enemy lines. What kind of valuable resources could be gotten from hell? In my head a cleared up hell could just be a playground for earths super powers to go at it without any fallout. But that would itself feed the demonic inhabitants. The real question is what is the geography of hell? A pangea surrounded by lava? Is it dantes inferno descending levels with different demons and fiends scurrying for control of each level? Lets DEFINE hell.

>>59060147>Hells ResourcesBrimstone for one, and I don't mean sulphur, but actual hellish brimstone. Used in artifact construction, decoration, sinner-torturing and the forging of demonic arms and armor.Damned Souls, if properly tortured, can have their suffering harvested and used as a power source, providing limitless 'Mana' for the casting of spells, if one can control enough of them. This is also why screams can be heard when channeling the magics of hell by the caster and anyone nearby, it is suffering given purpose.Blood is of course, vital. Runes scrawled in blood have power, second only to those rendered in Brimstone. Virgin blood (the true meaning of which is 'blood of those who haven not partaken in a dark ritual', getting it from someone who has never had sex is just a bonus) Blood is used as a base or as a key component in a bewildering array of demonic pacts, spells and rituals, far too many to list here. The blood of mortals and demons is much more valuable than the blood of the Damned but the blood of the Damned does 'well enough' for most purposes, even if it can leave spells and enchantments 'thirsty'.The Blood of Creatures from 'The Outer Realms' has strange and often unpredictable effects, while the blood of things divine is so valuable, it puts a price incalculable on the head of those that carry it.As for Hell itself it is layered, but in inpossible ways. The oaths shift and change, and the ruled of physics act more like suggestions at times. The upper layers are more peaceful, the deeper you go, the more resources you find, but the darker it gets. Literally. The darkness itself can be carved and collected and is itself a resource, with the souls of the truly evil being tortured at these impossible depths. Lucifer himself dwells here, his holy light (He is the North Star, brightest angel under god and all that) illuminating his surprisingly humble dwellings and the crater he left when he was cast out of heaven and not much else.
DOOM had massively improved my game mastering skills. I have never thought before to literally bribe the player characters with upgrades and loot to just chill for a moment and listen to exposition.
>>59060338*Virgin blood is valuable, and the paths to different layers shift and change. Whoops. To continue, the topmost layers of hell are home to the souls of the dead who commited no real evil, but did not meet gods (pretty outrageous) standards. However, meeting the dead as a mortal is a deeply damaging experience, the mind unable to properly understand what it is going through, even if the human experiencing it 'gets the idea'As such, the 'innocent-dead' often hide away in great pools of souls, and ancient tombs...That's how humans and demons percieve it, anyways. The soul of someone truly evil, amoral, or twisted however is tortured by demons, who mutilate the undying souls (and if they are truly lucky, the still-living body) of The Damned with gusto. This grants hell both purpose, and power. Once a soul is judged by the Courts of Heaven and Hell and is truly, ineffably damned, it changes in nature. Mortals can percieve it without any lasting harm, and it can be used as a battery. Much post-corruption equipment utilizes damned souls as a power source. The more twisted the soul, the greater the weight of it's sins, and it sinks deeper into hell. Greater demons are called in to torture these souls, and in the case of a break-out, defend hell from them. Hell itself is governed by great Princes, Fallen Angels, Lords of Sin, and Overfiends who all attempt to keep hell operating, and a great number of Barons, Lesser Lords, and Underfiends who squabble and fight. These lesser beings are the most malicious and hateful towards themselves and humanity and lead rebellions and armies against each other in a ceaseless orgy of violence. When Hell marches without it's human allies/masters, these lesser demons are driven to the forefront to drown the foe in bodies, blood, and rich suffering. All the better to feed and fuel the Greater Demons and Realmbreaker War-Engines of Hell.

This is actually interesting, because it sets up a situation for when the unrighteous dead go to hell and yet still remain humanity's problem, death just becomes a means of easy travel from mainworld to burnworld. New technologies would have to be developed to aid in the elderly dead who attempt to return, since their age probably doesn't revert any, or if they did, there might be political discussion as to whether or not it is ok to kill yourself to get a young body again. Hell, if they are spiritual bodies, they could be mechanically immortal with the powerset damned spirits might be assumed to have, so one has to wonder if the conquering of hell might lead to a more metaphysical transhuman revolution, by way of people offing themselves to become powerful spirits with none of the setbacks that usually come with hell.

Capefaggot here, but this idea woth some tweaking could make for a lretty cool superhero. Some dude ends up in hell without dying, and meets a host of greater demons who tell him that hell is not a force of evil, complete with Satan going on about how he loves humanity and all that.Cue this dude returning to Earth as some kind of Prophet/Priest themed Hero, fighting the magical and mundane, and punishing the wicked. His powers would boil down to him being a conduit for hellish magics and summoning creatures to do his bidding. This could lead to internal politicking where he has to convince demons to let him summon them or use their powers, a nice little power cap to keep him grounded.

>>59067186>The Salvation WarWe were just denouncing that dumpster fire not 10 posts ago you numbskull.
>>59065990Why else would crazy people make tin-foil hats?
With the possibilities of Hell being sieged and later conquered, what will the now human dominated Hell realm look like? To deter 'depends on setting' posts, have few assumptions:>Terrain is similar to how Doom portrayed Hell>Earth like atmospheric pressure with local fluctuations>Air is toxic in long term exposure>Arid climate>Earth like gravity with minor local fluctuations>No pandemic pathogensWill human simply conquer and then leave garrison force to guard portals, locals and mining/energy gathering outposts, or will they go full blown colonization efforts?
>>59067809Considering that's how Hell is described in the sequel to The Salvation War? The dead form their own governments, a lot of buildings feature simple airlocks because while they may be *able* to breathe Hell's atmosphere safely, they still prefer to breathe something that reminds them of Earth. Living humans visiting from Earth use respirators and spend almost all their time indoors.
>>59067809In the first areas occupied by humans, it's very functional, reinforced military buildings. As the human foothold improved, and mankind began learning from Demonkinds example, imagine modern, eye-catching architecture with a decidedly hellish twist too it, making use of demonic materials and plenty of runes. There are still plenty of spaces made for demons that serve mankinds ends just fine, but with conveniences added. Ladders, staircases, elevators, vending machines, television screens, wifi that only screams at you *some of the time*, the works.

>>59069408Of all the things on /tg/, why is THIS the most embarrassing to you?
>>59048749You're entitled to brainstorm as you want, but the core theme of DOOM16 is "human greed will inevitably lead them to try and exploit something they cannot hope to control". To say "yeah but what if they WON tho" takes all of the punch out of the setting and makes it just another sci-fi shooter.
>>59069543Hayden literally says that Doomguy might be right. Hayden is misguided at best and has completely lost his mind at worst. Doom is not about moral grey areas or hard choices. UAC is wrong and foolish in what they're doing and that is made expressly clear through the whole fucking game. The only way someone should be dealing with Hell is by slaughtering demons until they go away. Argent energy will never work because the demons are endless and endlessly corrupting. Some pissant scientist does not know more about hell than Doomguy.
>>59069408More embarrassing than fertility paladins? What?

Nuclear fission, biochemical weapons of mass destruction. Nobody says it wouldn't be without sacrifices or problems. Achieving at least partial control of Hell Realm is canon by Doom lore itself:>We open the Gates to Hell>DoomGuy wipe them out>Earth is besieged by demons>DoomGuy not only saves humanity by enabling their escape from Solar System, but also destroy Icon of Sin... and wipe them out>UAC discover teleportation technology and open portal to Hell>DoomMarine wipe them out and seal portal to Hell>UAC siphon unnatural energies from Hell Realm, that acts as Nexus to number of other worlds>Also opens portals to Hell>DoomSlayer is awakened and go to rip and tear through demonic invasion ranksI think while we have some fuck ups along the way, we are still in control.

>>59071974Anon didn't say it was good so maybe it's what he thinks OP deserves?>>59069728I was never a huge fan of people freaking out of energy crisis in the far future once humanity has more or less managed to make the laws of physics our bitch. FTL, artificial gravity, teleportation, etc. Doom gets a bit of a pass since I have no idea what state their engine tech is, though they clearly have been working to bend physics over the nearest table and are prepared to go in without lube. Ultimately it's just a bit of silly fun excuse for shooting demons in space. Now Dead Space, those fuckers do not get a pass. "Oh no, we're running out of energy. Let's go plug our iPhones into this alien monolith!" Have you jackasses even taken a peak at those giant fusion/fission reactors handily found in every star system? Alright, fine, DS gets a slight pass since the Markers have apparently been altering human evolution to make everyone in that game series as collectively retarded as possible. It's still an incredibly ridiculous story point for a series where people rip up goddamn planets for resources. How they hell do they go through multiple planets worth of materials so fast anyway? Oh well, the Markers are probably why nobody heard of birth control there either.
>>59072199A mean if the future is desperate for energy wouldn't a dyson sphere fix the problem?
>>59060007I'd eat her out like an ice-cream sandwich.
>>59072608I was thinking a tad cheeper. You could use a series of satellites orbiting the sun for efficient collection of solar energy (more efficient than terrestrial based solar panels, anyway) and beam the energy to wherever you want it in the system via laser. You'd most likely direct it towards a collector satellite in orbit of the target planet which would then relay the laser beam to the surface power plant. You'd place enough of these collector satellites in orbit so that regardless where your planet is in relation to the sun you always have a direct line between satellites.Of course if you have stable quantum teleportation that doesn't destroy either endpoint and creates an effective tunnel you could plant one end in the satellite and an exit point in the terrestrial power plant. This way you'd require less overall satellites and not have to worry about the hazards of a laser beam traffic across the solar system.
>>59071259The Doom Slayer is defined by his selflessness, though. He RIP AND TEARs not for any personal gain, but because the demons need killing.Any "what if humans conquered hell" premise implies "how would it make things better for us". That's a fast track to getting yourself in a situation where you NEED Doomguy.
>>59071259>We already have things, that could wipe us out, yet we persist and are still here and kicking. Nuclear fission, biochemical weapons of mass destruction. Nobody says it wouldn't be without sacrifices or problems. I think you're missing a key point here which is that, yes, what you say is true, but our nukes, biochemical weapons, and etc aren't sentient and don't actively want us dead. Hell, on the other hand...Doom situation is far more comparable to rogue AI in the standard scifi scenario where we try to have computers solve our shit but instead it uses it's vastly superior processing power to plot our destruction. We're not quite at that point yet, but we're getting there. It's also more or less the state of affairs in Quake with the Strogg as all kinds of life forms adapted by machinery to serve whatever the hell intelligence guides the Strogg via the neurocyte implant.
>>59072608I think mankind is still limited to our solar-system in DOOM, I *think*Multiplayers notwithstanding, you only ever hear about Mars, it's moons, and Earth.
>>59071932An entire dimension and a history too long to chronicle and you choose 'make thing float'I don't know if you're a visionary or a dumbass.
The problem in my mind is that there will always be demonic incursions. Hell seems pretty much limitless, and so there's always going to be some demon whispering into someone who is in too low of a place to live happily but a high enough place to do damage if he helps the demon. The way the UAC works, they must have smaller scale demonic incursions all the time. Maybe they'll manage to avoid having a DOOM level incursion. Its probably one of the most horrifying places to work in the known universe. And it will constantly have some demons breaking free and killing people, constantly have to bleed innocents dry to keep the corporation working, and always a place that should probably just be put to the torch because ultimately it shackles us to an energy source that will actively be trying to kill us at all times.

>>59055861>SatanI like this idea. We learn that Satan has long since taken over Earth, and the humans "conquest" of Hell is really just Satan merging his 2 dominions so he can rule all of reality. It's all a grand conspiracy that only a very few of the highest-ranking humans and demons are even tangentially aware of
>>59057319Fucking what? Lucifer's sin was jealousy. He didn't want Daddy to love humanity more than him, and he didn't want to adore us like daddy said all angels must.
>>59084914Kind of funny how much you can get fucked over by information creep. Hard to track down at what point Christians decided Lucifer was synonymous with Satan, which in turn is a switch up from the Hebrew roots since Satan as The Enemy wasn't some fallen asshole but could be literally anything God threw at humanity to test or just thwart us, meaning several angels could have been The Enemy depending on the events in the Old Testament. At some point Christian writers decided they really needed a super villain for their religion and holy shit did it work. Nothing like fear to keep the faithful in line.
>>59084914Counter point: God spends all his time murdering humans and punishing them for not kissing his ass when he was the one who gave them free will.He murders the entire population of the Earth with a flood, except for one family of devoted followers in the belief that their descendants will be more faithful. At one point Lucifer calls god on his shit and says that this one dude loves god only because he has a good life that god gave him. God murders the dudes family, destroys his property, and takes everything from him to prove a point about how much this dude loves him.And there is much more nonsense in the tank! What did Lucifer do to violate any moral code?
>>59087819isnt this why many propose that the old and new testament god are separate entities?
>>59087836Probably? The old God was quite a bit more fire and brimstone punishment for mortalkind. My favorite was always Sodom and Gamorrah. Angels had to beg the Lord to hold off his wrath believing not everyone could be evil and are told, sure, go ask and if you find any the cities will be spared. Fuck that. First nice guy the Angels met they told him to get the fuck out of Dodge, God wasn't going to spare shit. You don't stop running, you do not look back, try not to fuck your daughters. My own experiences, though, is that they aren't so much explained as two separate entities so much as this was the purpose of Jesus. God allowed himself/a part of himself to exist as a mortal man. God has infinite wisdom, infinite love, but also infinite ability to fuck shit up if it displeases Him. Through Jesus He experiences the human condition and gains insight that helps temper His wisdom and views of humanity. At least that's what I was told growing up when I questioned it.
>>59087964ahh, the flawed god outlook, that posits god is not infact a perfect god
>Post-Corruption>There exists 'Holy Orders' who for one reason or another hate and combat the Man/Demon AllianceDiscuss.
>>59087819Depends on which version or interpretation of the Bible (and whose bible) you're reading. Like this >>59087964 . Sometimes those who journey to discover those without sin are men, sometimes angels. Sometimes they only need to find any faithful, sometimes it's a certain number, 50 or so, and they only find Lot and his immediate family. Same with the Garden of Eden. Was the snake actually Satan? Or just some wacky talking snake? Why would God punish Adam and Eve for eating the apple when he told them not to when they only realized why they should have done what God commanded AFTER they ate the apple, just as it wasn't until they ate the apple they realized their bodies were sinful left uncovered? What's the old joke? If God hadn't wanted humans to eat the apple he wouldn't have told them not to eat apples, he'd have told them to eat snakes.>>59088100That depends on if you actually see it as a flaw. Both views can be perfectly valid. God has every right to punish whom he sees fit. After Jesus he supposedly CHOOSES being merciful. Both are perfectly valid choices, and thus neither can be said to be a direct flaw. Basically God is allowed to change his mind, but the Bible always allowed for that. It was in the nature of people pleading to let them find good people in Sodom and Gamorrah. The notion that God also learned something from Jesus is posited as Jesus not really being necessary to change the minds of man, since God could just wave his hand and do so. Instead he chose Jesus as his vehicle to influence men.
>>59088152Counter proposal. Men think they are challenging demons but the God they think they are obeying is actually himself a demon who merely enjoys the resulting chaos, strife, and bloodshed.
>>59088259>Instead he chose Jesus as his vehicle to influence men. There's also the aspect that Jesus was to be the sacrifice to atone for original sin. It's why he's called the Lamb of God.
>>59088365Again, though, that would be how he chose to remove Original Sin. He's omnipotent, he can do what he wants. He just has many different ways he can choose to do it. He chose to create Jesus. It can be argued as a decision that served several of God's purposes.
>>59088289Counter-counter proposal: It shouldn't be Demons all the way down. Blood-and-Strife manipulation can be done without Holy Orders
>>59088551Counter counter counter proposal: two sides of the same coin are still the same coin.
>>59088259The idea, I think, is that God may be all-powerful and all-knowing and because of that he has no experience as a lesser creature like a human from firsthand experience. He literally cannot because he will always be omnipotent and omniscient. Because he's all-knowing he is aware of what it is to live as a human but he knows everything else all the same time, and how do you balance that? He knows about humans, but can he truly understand how we function in our limited capacity? God literally cannot do that himself because he can't not be all-knowing and all-powerful. He cannot have limits. It's a classic case of God creating a stone not even he can lift, and if you're God what do you do? You lift that goddamn stone anyway. He creates himself as a mortal named Jesus, thus exist as God the all-powerful and Jesus the man at the same time. The Father and the Son as the same being. It's similar to the classic problems of Satan/Lucifer. I prefer Milton's version where Lucifer decides he'd rather reign in hell than serve in heaven and he'd create his own paradise with blackjack and hookers. Turns out the end result, Pandemonium, was a complete fuckup mess. That's why people tell you not to make decisions when you're pissed off and to calm down first, or you wind up screwing things up worse. Similarly we have the Black Adder version. Hell is the place where all the bad people go. If you lived a life of rape and pillage, man, why would you want to go to heaven? They'd never let you do what you want. So go to hell where it's filled with all your fellow rapists and pillagers, all the sins you loved to indulge in. When you think about it this makes sense. Lucifer may hate humanity, but in the end if he punishes the wicked he's merely serving God, and he hates that too! So is he really going to wrack your soul over the coals for eternity or is he going to give you a high five for pissing in God's eye? Pull up chair and a beer. Hitler is about to tell war stories.
>>59088949Probably why the Hebrew version makes a bit more sense. Hell isn't a place, it's a state of being. There's no devil, there's no demons, and the punishment is being cast from God's light and love for all eternity. The way I understand it God's love is something you always have, always feel, even if you aren't aware of it. So when you no longer have it it would be like missing your limbs. You're aware of the loss forever.
>>59048749Has anyone mentioned Helldorado? It was an old miniatures game where the spanish have discovered hell instead of America and they had proceed to colonize it. There were many human factions, a faction with the lost souls and different demonic factions. Quite cool. Most of the lost souls in hell were generally used as slaves by the humans. https://www.scribd.com/document/203317438/HellDorado-Core-Rulebook
>>59048749The UAC gets massacred though, and Doomguy only survives because of literal divine intervention. Killing demons is one thing, but conquering hell itself (and presumably Satan) when basically one guy threatens them and only then because he's got angelic spirits helping him is a pretty long stretch.

>>59059956I really, REALLY like the idea of Hell being something entirely manifested by mankind. Like no other are in space has hell. They vaguely have their own psychic collective conscious imprint upon this foreign parallel dimension that is like a sheet underneath a blanket that is reality. Most races don't know, or are only vaguely aware of their imprint, few have even tapped into it and used it to blur the lines of their realities and people, thus space elves. But humans? Miles of brimstone and hellfire. The sins of vice, and the burning righteous scorned by the pretenders. Legions of damned souls risen to fight the enemies of man, lead by the heroes of the Deus Absentia. Joan of Arc, Vlad Ill Dracula, even Lucifer himself, monsters of primordial creation, Leviathan and company. The legions of the damned marching forever more to collect their company. And you don't need to be some fucking fart huffing high shelf not eldar knife eared faggot to feel just how wrong their presence feels. Any creature can feel it, any being knows this isn't an army but a force of nature you're fighting. In human culture? Free energy, questionable afterlife, an army that can be anywhere in days depending on the location and how present humans have been in the local area, machines and wheels burning as Man is made god.
>>59048749Arnold K of Goblinpunch fame has this in his setting; the Church took over Hell. The differentiation between demons and devils is that devils work for the church punishing sinners, while demons are as-of-yet free.

>>59098785>Bitches about worldbuilding thread>Then gives ideas on worldbuildingPick one jackass.
>>59098601This does a fantastic job of 'fixing' the 'Humans as all-rounders' trope in science fiction if one dislikes it.Mnakinds biggest advantage is the fact that every man, woman, and child is tied to a realm that mankind both projects and creates psychically/spiritually, but also owns in a very real sense.Alien Psychics attempt to control humans only to witness the burning hells in their minds eye, potentially any 'Hell-Sensitive' human could be a vector for disease, summonings, or insanity depending on which demons make their presence known first. In a non-combat sense, this puts humans in an odd situation with other civilizations that mankind ISN'T fighting. People are still people, and hell, demons can actually be chill and personable, but it's an odd and difficult-to-swallow contrast when the human who is smiling at you and offering you a good deal on some fuel rods for your ship smells of brimstone and blood, and finds no issue with the fact that his hovercart has the bound soul of a murderer as a battery.
In the hypothetical that mankind owns hell, should humans and demons interact regularly? Can humans and demons share a space, interact, and form relationships?
>>59099092....yes >>59054857but i would like to point out that a lot of demons look like Venibule >>59056863, and while a few years down the line we will probablly become more accepting of the Demonically Abled im not sure it will go that far
>>59090243Hmm, well, I would imagine we would be seeing ALOT more dark comedy, especially anything poking fun at religionReligious media would also shrink in audience but double down hard, so things like Pureflix will rage hard against the new status quoAlso, im pretty sure slasher flicks would stop being such a thing, with the prevalence of blood and hideous demons abounding, they would lose their flairby the same token violence and gore would warrant a much lower rating and probably find its way into the mainstream as tolerance roseAlso stories would be less about fearing the dangerous and unknown, like aliens/magic/a.i. and instead it would likely be more about finding these strange and dangerous unknowns and beating them into submissionAnd as for the FPS genre in video games? Yeah Call of Duty would start looking more and more like Doom
>>59102077Honestly, image the uproar when America and parts of the UK open up Hell-Embassies or accept Demons into positions of power.Imagine how the Vatican would react.Actual, legitimate witch-hunts and 'purity cults' would spring up like weeds.
>>59102512Well...maybe OR the Vatican goes the other way and says WE HAVE CONQUERED HELL IN GODS NAME! Having struck down the demons they now seek to convert them and bring them into gods light and grace.Imagine catholic missionaries in Hell, talking to Cacodemons to convert them.
>>59102553I'm no expert but that sounds like lunacy.I don't see THAT happening, especially considering how Demons usually react pretty poorly when people start proclaiming their faith.
All of you are wrong about everything. Here's what's up:>Samuel Hayden>S. Hayden >Shaitan>The term Shaytan (Arabic: شَيْطَان) has the same origin as Hebrew שָׂטָן (Sātān), source of the English Satan.
>>59102615But what does it MEAN?
>>59102596But Catholicism is all about self-flagellation and suffering for your faith.Demons burning themselves with holy water and by pressing crucifixes into their skin would totally fit in.
>>59102670Truth is... the game was rigged from the start.
I want a Baphomet girl to sit on me.
>>59102702no....no you dontthats like asking for ALL of the STDs
>>59090213You know he had to do it to em
>>59102670Shaitan is the Adversary, and Samuel Hayden is the one thanks to whom the portal to Hell was a thing in the first place. Desphite his claims of him not being your enemy, he is your adversary.I do hope the rumors of a new DOOM being announced at E3 are true.
>>59103768i think youre hopes are DOOMed to fail....
>>59102670>Samuel Hayden>Sam Hayden>Sam Hain>SamhainOH SHIT! It means the entire UAC staff on Mars was just celebrating Halloween and also really drunk and high so they had no idea what was really happening as Doomslayer Guy Marine ripped off their heads with a chainsaw!
>>59104539>Samuel Hayden>Christian mythology>Hayden Christian>Hayden ChristensenOH SNAP! Robot dude confirmed for really being Darth Vader!
>>59105287>Samuel Hayden>Bill Hayden>Dark Crystal>Billy Crystal?!WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?
>>59105769>>59105287>>59104539>>59102670>>59102615>Sam HydeHe can't keep getting away with this!
>>59105769>Crystal Lite TeaOh wait, this is actually quite refreshing. Oh and it comes in this delightful little novelty glass! This is quite deli
>>59057099>Justice system is streamlined>Just execute him, if he ends up in hell he's guilty, if not then he must have been rewarded and gone to heaven as a martyr
>>59108548Okay, see, this is the problem with any inquisition/witch hunter. They get so damn lazy! Murder can't be your solution to every problem!
>>59073255You just described a Dyson Sphere. The original concept is a dense swarm of satellites and habitats. The solid version came about because artists and later authors didn't understand
>>59048749Such a concept misses the entire point of D44M though. You can't win against hell, because it's fucking hell. They will inevitably corrupt you, because that's what demons do.The very notion that you can conquer hell makes you guilty of the sin of hubris. The only proper thing you can do with hell is reject it and spend your time killing demons
>>59069543>Hayden has a point, anon.No he doesn't. He's in way over his head. Doomguy has spent literal eternities dealing with hell. He knows more about it than anyone. And doomguy isn't dumb, he's actually quite smart. If there was another way, he would have figured it out. But there isn't. Messing with hell is always going to end bad
>>59109483>You just described a Dyson SphereNegative. Regardless of original intent the modern concept of a dyson sphere is a complete enclosure, thus ensuring 100% capture of emitted energy from the star for personal use. Satellites and other smaller collection structures would be considered a dyson swarm or array. Far less efficient at energy capture but also far less material costs and construction time. And risk.Ideas evolve. Best you evolve with them.
>>59109768>>59109483Freeman Dyson's original thought experiment called it a shell and it was intended for total energy capture, which you couldn't achieve with satellites. He also got the idea from reading science fiction, so there's that too for whatever it is worth.
>>59090424I saw that, it was okay. Could've done without the explanation that it's one of Lokis many bastard children. Why not just leave it as a horrible beast of the woods that some strange Scandinavians worship.
>>59103216But I don't think Baphomet has an association with disease though..?
>>59102045>The setting becomes overrun with Half-DemonsThe real hell starts now.
I'm just a concerned father, wondering if this new 'Lil' Baphomets Adventures' is a good show for my two young kids. What do you all think of it?
>>59112454Containment breach! Go back to /lba/, you sick goatfucker!
>>59113051I promise I'm just asking for my kids! I don't watch the show, honest!
>>59113848A real man would watch Mephistophelesformers. Make a deal and transform your life today!
>>59114253>that showIf you want to be a 13 year old edgelord, sure.
>>59111920Was it even mentioned in the movie that it was a child of Loki? I remember hearing that but I thought it was a member of the cast/director saying that in an interview or someone working it out, not actually stated in the movie.
>>59116788Fuck you, Sign of the Beast Wars was not edgy, retard.
>>59116881Anon might have been referring to KISS Players.
>>59116901I still prefered goetica-bots.
>>59116848It's a blink and you'll miss it scene where one of the cultists explains both what the creature is and what the mark one of the backpackers has. He was pegged by the creature to be one of its followers but that goes south when he burns the village down and escapes.
>>59117651Ya I remember them explaining the creature marked him as a future follower, just never any connection to an existing mythology.
>>59116881>Not EdgyOh my god don't even. The whole fucking thing was just this giant 'who-can-be-more-sinful' contest for an actual fucking season. It was hamfisted, forced, and the characterization went out the window episode after episode.
>>59059956Soldiers now get themselves Possessed ASAP. Being literally unable to feel shock or delibitating pain is fucking awesome, and you can get weaponry and armor grafted into yourself so that you're literally never caught unguarded.
>>59118740Oh boo hoo, looks like someone can't handle Optimus Pride teaching the virtues of best sin. You're probably one of those weirdos who wishes lust showed up more. They're giant demon powered robots! They literally aren't designed for lust!
>>59119617Are you sure that people would be so eager to do that?Modern day we could be dosing our soldiers and modifying them with what little tech we could have but we don't.
>>59120332If they weren't willing to put lust in the series more, why even give them a bsttoe-form? Why even have them be a combatant at all!?
>>59116788>>59114253Your both wrong, everyone knows Teenage Possesed Demonic Marines is the best goddamn show ever
>>59120332Its got no real compelling villains though Metatron is completely ineffective and Prayerscream is a fucking jokePlus they keep trying to force the human characters in there just so they can fit aesops in
>>59081769I wish the art in this comic was cleaner. I can barely tell what's going on every page. Otherwise an interesting setting. Is there any more?
Hellish families are fine too.
I've been thinking about how this first interaction with Hell should go down. And the idea I've come up with is that after mankind passes a population threshold, Hell suddenly manifests. Blood rain, red-lightning storms, screaming in the wind, all that shit for about a month before Satan/Lucifer/The Goat Boy manifests all over the world, having just really been born and wrapped up judging every single dead soul of every single person in history, up to that point. He does interviews, appears at concerts, goes on parade, kisses babies, all that shit that you expect from a real-world leader. And all through this he tells mankind what Hell is. It's a shadow of mankind, a manifestation of everything good and bad about humanity with a decidedly dark twist. A realm of power, knowledge, and torture for everyone who lived sinfully. With sins being divided into Major and Minor sins. The average person get's a decently comfy afterlife, with people who lived righteously, with love in their hearts, and kindness get a better one. You get torture if you were a genuinely bad person, or at least torture for a few hundred years if not eternity. If mankind is loving and caring to each other, Hell, and by extension, Demons get nicer. If they give in to lesser instincts and be assholes towards each other, Hell gets worse etc.And just like Humans, Demons have free will, and can be just as bad or as kind as humans can (but only JUST as bad or as kind.)Time passes and the archives of Hell are opened up by people who made deals with scholarly, wizardy demons and slowly but surely the secrets of Hell are revealed and technology and sorcery jump forward in power.
>>59124170So how would Satan deal with pretty much every religion in the world trying to smite his ass the moment he arrives like a rock star?
>>59050813it's not that terrible, it's just at it's most enjoyable in the earliest parts
>>59124202I forgot to mention in that whole damn post the idea that as long as people live, demons live, so the two fighting in any large-scale conflict is largely self-defeating.As for the attempted smitings, probably by avoiding the seats of power for any religions and being a sneaky fuck.
Looks like Image Uploading is currently borked.
>>59126388Well don't blame God. You have no idea where he'll cast you down to.
>>59126494I am not entirely convinced God should exist in this setting.
>>59048749Think Fallen London, but more high-tech and less fiend-dominated
>>59055515>everything is pure>suddenly out of a jobFug
>>59127875The price of purity is eternal vigilance, anon. That's why to recognize sin and depravity we're going to need to save, you know, a few examples. For study, you realize. To test the mettle of our faith and righteousness! And that is why the Pope has a succubus harem. Any further questions on this subject will be answered by a member of The Most Holy Inquisition. You can see him down in the courtyard now greasing up the anal spikes.Oh, no, don't worry. That's for the succubus harem. Let me tell you, those chicks are freeeeaky.
>>59065867basically sandman slim in a nutshell
>>59120730elite athletes sure as fuck would. wada would have the easiest job in the world. <lance armstrong junior is there something you want to tell us? you smell like brimstone and you look like a corpse today. oh your just hungover? step over there we need to run some tests>
>>59056790>leaked the last part of the story and so no publisher's ever gonna pick it up.Wait seriously? I thought it made the writer ragequit for leaking the first part of the next book. I never saw the conclusion.
>>59090655Is that a penis?
>>59128856No, that's a deer with a very bad case of the mange which accidentally got its head lodged up a hiker's ass. It's admittedly not nature's finest moment.
>>59050813>>59050932You know, /qst/ards did their own version a year ago.Also a decent read.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/LeftBeyond
>Corrupted Mankind travelling through the stars>Run into Abyssal, Eldritch Creatures of incomprehensible size>They're the dead ghosts of entire species long since passes, fused together into a nightmare amalgamation of everything wrong with that race>Later on, Mankind encounters living ships>Inside are lithe, elf-like beings with a psychic-link to their home-planet>Which is actually one living being, the elves giving themselves as servants to it's will>They spread this strange form of life to new worlds as part of their religion>Sci-Fi wood elves.
>>59059956>>59055389>>59051975I really like this idea
>>59055389It's funny to imagine a human on trapped on an alien world or hell, even just on vacation getting asked all these 'weird' questions about mankind and learning about these cultures that DON'T have Demons.
