Nine great spires of rock and steel, woven with tendrils, festooned with satellite dishes and adorned with flesh of men and beast. The many stolen mouths, both human and animal, sing as if with a single voice. A voice heard dimly through the mist for miles around this structure.

One veteran and more unhinged explorer once came back with an odd claim. She said to have found a fully functional gas station/convenience store on an isolated road.The station was staffed by bored employees that didn't seem to worry about the fog and deamons surrounding them. The explorer apparently bartered some food from them and came back.Subsequent expeditions did not find anything. The only proof the explorer had were empty bags of chips. Everyone concluded that the chips were fog food and the explorer hallucinated the station.

Meat is now an rare luxury or even a liability. Since farming land is now severely reduced, even with the fog helping plants grow, all crops are used to nourish humans. And even if raising cattle was possible, proximity to the fog may lead to corruption of the animal and meat.Plants are safe to eat, even if touched by the fog.On the other hand, since part of the sea is still clear, fishing is possible but dangerous due to the monsters hiding there.

It's got the same corruption and biomechanical theme, but lacking in structure and organization, which somehow makes it even scarier.There's no leader to defeat, no army to mobilize against, just a wall of fog full of stuff that wants to kill you surrounding your little community.

So what twchnology do the survivors on the fog have access to in this world? And how well do they understand it? Are they primitives fumbling with advanced weaponry they barely understand, mordern tech with occasional dips of 20 years into the future? Or are they somewhere else? What are some of the larger human settlements and what are their cultures? How is a city made around a freshly fallen star fragment? Do country borders still exist or have they been forgotten?

The biggest settlements may even have actual factories, although securing raw materials is always difficult..Since stars fragments both dim and brighten there is an area around each safe zone like the tide markings on a beach. Taking technology into these areas is strictly verboten, so the only ones who live there are those too poor to go anywhere else. These low-tech slums can be found in almost every safe zone. There are however puritanical factions that control certain safe zones. They consider the fog to be evil itself, and anyone who willingly goes into it is not to be trusted. They deal with explorers on sufferance and they eradicate any attempts to settle within the tide zone.
This seems like probably one of the better threads to ask, is there a Walking Dead/ Resident Evil- esque ropleplaying game floating around somewhere that is fairly popular or well thought out? My usual DnD group wants something more contemporary than 5e, something with monsters and guns and zombies.Monster Bump

>The state of infrastructure in the fog appears to be in flux. Buildings and roads may appear pristine to one expedition, dilapidated and overgrown to a later expedition, and then back to looking newly built the very next day. Sometimes the buildings may appear in mirrored but in the same location, and sometimes they're not there at all. Facilities with electricity and clean running water have been documented, verified by extraction, but there is little certainty about the frequency of such occurrences. It is suspected there may be a pattern behind all this seeming randomness, but until it is discerned it presents an almost insurmountable challenge to those who attempt to map the fogged world.

Some of the fogwalkers even claim to have traded with them, trading sinple trinkets and toys for far more valuable material including star fragment shards and advanced technology.
