    86 KB True Heroes Part 9 !ZaiyoM.Dpk 07/13/09(Mon)11:59 No.5151430
Hello, all. I hope you haven’t forgotten about me even though it’s only been a few days. I must say, I didn’t expect to be back here so soon, but, it seems, that the time I would be using to write for you is quite a lot of time; while on errands, and what have you, I’ve been thinking about what to change, to take away, and to add. After a little internal deliberation, I’ve made me conclusion(s). I’m going to test it out on a trial basis so, I warn you, if I don’t like what I’ve done, I will discontinue again. I’ve said it before, I believe, that I owe it to you, my readers, to bring you something new, exciting, and generally fun - and I cannot do that if I’m having doubts myself. I hope you understand.

    - Level-Up system has taken a complete overhaul. Instead of increasing your abilities after you sleep after a battle, you will gain them the more you fight in a certain style.
    - Grim Reapers: they are just a title now, which means the supernatural element has been removed.
    - I’ve revamped the story, somewhat.
    - There may have been other forgotten changes, and there are things still subject to change.

    - Styles: anytime you’re not in battle, you can change your style of fighting. Each style allows you to unlock abilities and the like which carry over into your overall fighting. Be warned, however, that you cannot unlock or upgrade abilities to a style you’re not currently using (ex. Light Step will not upgrade if you’re not using the Trickster Style).
    >> !ZaiyoM.Dpk 07/13/09(Mon)12:00 No.5151433
    (Current) Styles:

    - Supernova: the moves of your previous life. Use this style to unlock your old abilities and attacks.
    - Wrestling/Grappling: a style focused grabbing, throwing, etc. your enemies. Use this if you like manhandling your opponent.
    - Trickster: fooling and outmaneuvering your opponent is the name of the game. Use this style if you prefer speed and manipulation.
    - Transformation: love animals? Now you can be one. Use this style if you’d rather become a literal beast in battle than a weak human.
    - Hand-to-hand: rather beat an opponent down with your own hands rather than use a weapon? Then this style is for you.
    - Brute: all power, all the time. Use this style if you prefer to muscle your way through your goals.
    - Defender: the moves of the protector. This style is based upon defending against attacks and countering in an opening.

    Current Abilities:
Light Step v1 (Trickster): Allows user to move at near instantaneous speeds.
Power Strike v1 (Hand to Hand): Increases the power of an individual attack.
Feint v1 (Trickster): Fake out your opponent with an attack while moving into a different one.
Transformation – Bear (Transformation): Undergo a transformation into a bear. The form is bulky, lowering speed greatly, but raising attack significantly.
Transformation – Yang Panther (Transformation): Undergo a transformation into a black panther. The form is lightweight and speedy. Your attack power is roughly the same, but your defense is greatly lowered.

Unrelated note: entering a relationship (be it friendship or otherwise) must be maintained. You cannot simply become “friends” and then the relationship is automatically sustained. You have to work toward keeping the bonds strong; if something were to happen like, say, a breakup, it could cause a rift that affects your group and/or overall teamwork, or something much more dangerous.

Where we last left off: a disguised Kuhn and Selene have entered the building where the King of Night resides. In 10 minutes, you are tasked to cause a huge distraction through the front entrance, which should allow them to find the control room for the doom that clouds both the outer and inner city.

Now that that’s out of the way, do pick your style.

    "9 minutes and change."

You stand up and begin to stretch where you were left waiting. The citizens of the inner city simply look at you out of curiosity, but none approach. “It’s almost time to go,” you think to yourself as you open and close your hands to loosen up your tense fingers. You can hear the countdown in your head. “50, 51, 52, 53…” You begin walking toward the entrance of the building. “58, 59…” You stop in front and you are immediately seen by the soldiers that guard the outside of the building. “60.”

A man goes flying through the glass and toward the wall of the building, his head becoming lodge of the wall he crashed into. “This party is about to get totally CRAZY.” You turn your head and scan the area; there are two halls that seem to go in opposite directions. You feel that it will be a little while before backup arrives so you take the time to decide which direction to head toward.

With little thought toward it, you decide to head down the path closest to you.

While running down the halls, you notice the old school style of the house; paintings, furniture, and wallpapers of a time long in the past. You slide to a halt when you see that you’ve been cut off from going any further by a large group of enemies.

I sugest we use feint to catch them of gaurd, then light step, taking out the guy at the back.
This will mean they then have to attack over their fallen allies body.

    - You lunge forward at the group of attacking soldiers. With your shoulder forward, you vanish from your position and reappear a couple feet in front the center shoulder. “Ramming Twister!” Your shoulder slams into his armor and sends him reeling backward. You spin with your blade out of its sheath, slicing apart your enemies in one quick and precise movement.

“Who are you and who are you working for,” you say with indifference in your tone. He laughs slightly and turns toward you; he motions to take off his helmet but decides against it. “You really don’t remember, do you?” Your eye twitches – he notices and decides to fill you in. “I’m a revolutionary, just like you. Well, not just like you, but you get the gist, don’tcha?” He begins to walk down the opposite corridor. “There are many of us in this city just waiting for our chance to strike.” He turns and looks you up and down. “Bring the sun back.” With those last words, he begins to run away toward where you had just arrived.

Following the hallway in your run, you begin to notice the occasional bloodied soldier and you chuckle at the sight; Selene and Kuhn must have gone this way.

You soon reach an impasse; 3 directions you can go, but none of which show any difference from each other.

“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!” Your attention was caught by the sound of screaming. You quickly follow the direction it’s coming from and see the same little boy from earlier pinned against the wall by several soldiers.

Quickly and quietly, you raise your blade in the air and swing it down with great force. It slices through the enemy’s armor like paper. The two other soldiers turn at the same time, but their reaction is no match for your superior speed. They fall to the ground limp and lifeless.

The child, now free, begins to cry. “Hey, hey… everything is fine,” you say in a smooth and reassuring tone. “What’re you doing here anyway?” “I found the way to the control room so I was going to it…” You raise your eyebrow. “Where is it?” “It’s through the main hall…” You see that he’s calmed down when he points toward a nearby door. “It’s through there…”

You stand and sheath your sword, offering to escort the young boy. He accepts and the both of you walk through the door.

The room is large – very large. There’s a bridge connecting the sides and a giant statue of a panther with something in its mouth in front of it. When you step into the lit room, you notice someone on the back of the statue with their legs crossed, their eyes closed and their mouth curled into a smile. “Raven!”
And now we turn the page to Selene and Kuhn…

“Selene, how much longer do we have to go?” “I don’t know, quit complaining. I didn’t design this place.” “You’re sure running through it like you did.” “Shut up. “ “No, you.” “No, YOU.”

The two had been running through the maze that is this building for quite a long time. They weaved in and out of corridors, fought with soldiers, talked with those who stayed here, but they still didn’t gain any ground. “Geez…” Kuhn said as they scaled another set of stairs. When they reached the top, they came upon another hall. But before they could step forward, they heard an unfamiliar voice. “Oh my, I heard we had some rats…” A man walked out from behind the corner. “Sorry,” Selene began, “I don’t have time to play around.” The woman leaped forward and flew through the air with great speed. Her foot landed against his face, which sent him reeling backward. Selene smirked at her seemingly easy victory.

“How rude.” Somehow the man had already made his way between Selene and Kuhn. In one movement, he grabbed them both and sent them through a nearby room. “As I was saying: I heard we had some rats, but I didn’t think it’d be two kids.” Kuhn lifted himself from the ground and eyed the man who walked toward them swinging a lance. “Of all people… I’ve heard about him…” Kuhn thought to himself. Selene flipped upward in the air with her bat drawn. “You,” the man began, “I’ve definitely seen you before.” Selene, without a word, ran toward the man and swung her weapon with ferocity. The man blocked it with his own, staring downward at his opponent with a morbid curiosity. “Ah, I remember now.” Selene jumped away, but held herself in an attack position where she landed.
    >> !ZaiyoM.Dpk 07/13/09(Mon)19:02 No.5154340
“I thought you reminded me of someone…” An image of someone familiar to him appeared next to her in his mind’s eye. “So you’re the captain’s…” He scoffed as he shouldered his weapon. “Well, I’ll be damned. I come to this faraway place and happen to run into some revolutionaries, but not only is she my enemy, she’s also related to the captain.” He cracked his neck. “Why, this is bigger than putting down some mutts who are out of place in this world.” Selene held her bat to her side. “No need to worry about that. She doesn’t give a damn about me: a heartless bitch that not only tries to kill her comrades, but her own husband and daughter as well.”

The man removed his lance from his shoulder. “Well, you can add her subordinates and superiors to that list. Looks like we both have something in common: victims of that fool’s abuse. I guess there isn’t much difference between relatives and subordinates. If the one in charge isn’t competent, then the ones underneath become the responsible ones.” Selene’s face grew impassive. “Get out of the way. It’s the job of her daughter to stop her when she does something stupid.” “Can’t do that. It’s the job of her subordinate to wipe her ass when she does something stupid.” The two of them switched into a fighting stance, their eyes focused on one another. “S-Selene…” Kuhn watched the two of them while sitting against a wall. As if he knew the man she was fighting, his voice showed surprise in her actions.
    >> !ZaiyoM.Dpk 07/13/09(Mon)19:02 No.5154343
Simultaneously, the two ran toward another at once; Selene’s expression showed obvious light anger and annoyances while her opponent’s was indifferent and impassive. Selene punched toward the man’s body, but her fist was caught in his hand. She continuously thrust her bat, but the man dodged it effortlessly. She swung downward, but he stepped back and stepped on the bat. While she looked down, he went into a back flip and kicked her chin, sending her into the ceiling weaponless. She caught herself as he looked up with the same expression; her arms bent to suffocate the damage. Selene pushed herself off with her foot extended, kicking the man in the face. A moment later, he caught her leg, swung her, and threw her through a large door that led outside. She skidded against the ceiling for a few seconds before bouncing upward and heading back into the room. “Selene!”

The man looked at her reentrance through the smoke with the same unemotional expression he had when the fight started. She stopped walking after getting at her desired distance. She was bleeding from her forehead; she spit out a chunk of something a few moments later. The man held his hand to his ear and realized she had bitten part of it off. She smirked at him and he grinned back, amused, which soon evolved into laughter. “Didn’t expect an inexperienced brat to keep up with me. I guess you inherited the exact same fighting instincts as your father, no, from your mother, eh?” “Don’t put me on the same level as that woman.” “I’m trying to be nice here. You oughta move out. You’ll let your great talent go to waste if you stay in the same place like this with these chickens.” He gave an amused expression. “If you want, I can help mend things between you tw-!”
    >> !ZaiyoM.Dpk 07/13/09(Mon)19:03 No.5154346
The man held his hands up in defense in a moment; Selene’s heel made contact with his arm, slightly burning it upon impact. It pushed him back until she leapt away. He smirked at her. “I said not to put me on the same level as you assholes. Assholes that let their blood take control, wandering through battlefields.” She began to walk forward with her head down. “I choose my own battlefields. Not by my blood, but by what I feel.” She stopped. “I stand on the battlefield to protect what’s important to me. Nothing more. And if anyone’s to stand in my way, I don’t care if it’s my friend, my mother, or anyone else.” She tightened her hand into a fist. “I’ll kill them all!”

Selene rushed her opponent, swinging her fists wildly and with power, though they were dodged and blocked with ease. “The mother who fights as her blood tells her to… and the daughter who fights as her heart tells her to… or should I say the mother who fights with her blood, or the daughter who fights against it. Looks like a truce was impossible to start with. But it’s unfortunate; you’ll never beat your stupid mother of yours like that.” Selene landed a punch against the man’s face, but he didn’t budge.

“Here’s a question for you,” he began much to her surprise, “a knock out punch or a killer punch…” he held his fist in the air. “Which one is heavier?” His fist tightened. “The correct answer is…” Selene lurched forward as the man’s foot slammed against her stomach. She went flying backward from the impact, rolling and bouncing against the floor. “A killer kick!” She finally stopped. She gripped her side in pain as the man walked forward – had her stitches been pulled out? “Because your legs are far stronger than your arms.” Selene began to cough up blood. “’What, it’s a trick question?’ Don’t be such a stiff, it was just a quiz.”

The man stood above the groaning Selene. “Haven’t you noticed?” She struggled to stand. “You unconsciously pull back your punches.” He stepped on her arm which caused her to yell out in pain. “You struggle so hard to suppress your instincts that your punches are already dead before they hit me.” His eyes looked downward to Selene who was struggling to free her captured arm. “You don’t want to hurt people; you don’t want to kill people. Such an admirable way of thinking – for a lame ass person, that is.” He stepped on her head, forcing it to the floor which became disturbed under the force. “But that crap doesn’t work on the battlefield. On the battlefield, those who hesitate die first. You reject your blood while we take pride in it. This was a mismatch from the very beginning.” He began to put more pressure on her head, which slowed her resistance by the second.

The man turned his head to see Kuhn holding his lance, which he had stabbed through where his heart should have been. “Let her go.” The man chuckle softly. “That was very good, kid. You were really trying to kill me.” He forced the blade out of the other end. With great strength, he lifted Kuhn in the air, who was still holding onto the weapon, and pinned him to the ceiling. “Too bad. It’s not there anymore.” His clothes billowed to show that Kuhn’s attack had hit an empty spot. “Kuhn!” Selene tried to desperately look upward toward Kuhn, who was immobilized. “Now, here’s where you make another choice. Who’ll die first? Choose!” “Stop! Let Kuhn go!” “There is no such option! Like I said, life is just one important choice after another. Better make the choice you won’t regret.”

“You…” The man looked upward to Kuhn, who was barely able to get his words out. “You… can eat shit! Don’t be such a stiff! It’s just a quiz, right?!” The man’s grip tightened around the handle of the lance. “Well, that decides it…” With great force, he pushed Kuhn further into the ceiling. “Stop!” Kuhn vomited, the pressure against his stomach was too much to endure. “Stop!” Blood began to pour from his nose and his mouth. His body grew limp. The veins in Selene’s eyes grew in number and her pupil dilated. “STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!” She screamed at the top of her lungs. For a moment, she flashed back to when You had been defeated by Raven.

Selene’s fist fell to her side. It was limp for a few seconds before it tightened into a fist. Her other hand quickly grabbed the man’s ankle and she punched it, which caused blood to spew out the other end. The man looked down out of surprise. Selene swiftly spun in a circle, kicking his other foot to set him off balance, only stopping for her uppercut that implanted itself in his stomach, sending him in the ceiling with great force. As he began to fall from it, Selene’s figure appeared in front of him; her foot shot out from her side and kicked him against his face. Though he could see it, he could do nothing to avoid her attack. The impact sent him flying into a wall, making a small indentation of his body when he slammed against it. Blood shot from his mouth and he fell to the ground in a heap.

“Her moves are suddenly…” he said while raising himself up to kneel. “What happened to that kid…?” Kuhn began to cough uncontrollably as he felt his energy return to him bit by bit. With one eye opened and the other closed, he stared into the smoke at Selene’s cloaked figure. “S-Selene…” The smoke began to dissipate and it showed Selene walking toward her enemy, head bobbing from side to side. From the man’s point of view, he could see the entire thing; etched on her face was a smile of insanity, her pupils were dilated, and the veins in her eyes were numerous, much more than what should be there. He grinned at the sight.

“So, the chain shattered, huh? The chain that unconsciously suppressed her violent instincts and abilities from her fear of killing someone snapped along with her reason because her friend was in danger.” His eyes gleamed. “So you’ve finally woken up…” Selene leapt from her position, her insane expression unchanging. “The beast!” She kicked toward the man, who jumped in a dodging maneuver; her attack destroyed the wall completely. He floated in the air with his lance in hand which pointed toward the woman who stood still.

“I’ve been waiting for you to show up! I was starting to think you were really that weak!” He thrust his blade, but it was stopped by Selene’s bare hand. He was surprised by her actions, but remained his form. When he dropped to the ground, he tripped Selene so she landed on her back. He jumped into the air with his fist cocked. “Have you lost your intellect along with your reasoning?! Without your hands, you can’t block or attack!” A white forced engulfed his fist. When it made contact with Selene’s body, it exploded upward like a volcano. “A beast you might be, but more like a harmless little rabbit!” “ Heh… hehehehehehehehehe… heh!”

The man looked down in surprise to see Selene was unharmed and laughing in the fact of his attack. Her insane smile and expression had never left her face. “Hey, you’ve gotta be kidding… I was pretty serious there. You’re hurting my feelings.” Selene quickly sat upward and smashed her head against his, which sent him sliding across the ground. “She’s overwhelming him… Selene’s overwhelming a veteran soldier… Is that really what Selene’s like? Is it even her anymore?” Selene stood up quickly and went on the attack. She kicked the man, to which he blocked, but he couldn’t keep up with the remaining attacks. She punched his arm, grabbed his hair, and proceeded to head-butt him again. He walked backward in pain for few moments. When he looked upward, he saw his lance flying toward him.

The lance pierced him in his arm and sent him outside from the sheer force. She appeared above him and pushed downward, sending the man into the roofs with a loud and painful impact. Selene jumped away and stood near him. “Hahahaha… well, I’ll be damned… it appears the chain I undid wasn’t holding back a beast.” Selene’s looked upward, showing just how far she was gone. “She’s a damn monster…” Selene grinded the heel of her shoe into the chest of the man while holding the lance that pinned him to the roof. “After all that lecturing about those who hesitate first die on the battlefield, it looks like I was the one hesitating. When I look at you… I can’t help but see her face…” The blood that poured down Selene’s face only enhanced her appearance of insane ecstasy.

“Kill me. As your instinct tells you to… no matter how hard you try to resist your blood, in the end, you’re no different from her. In the end, you’re just like your mother. Obey your blood and kill me. Take pride in your instincts and kill me. The battlefield is the only place we belong, and that’s what you have to do to survive on the battlefield. That is the fate of beasts that fight ‘til they die…” Selene raised her foot. “THE FATE OF THOSE WHO HAVE OUR BLOOD!” The man’s vision was covered in blackness. On the outside, it appeared the roof had exploded. His body fell downward to the darkness abyss, his lance falling with him.

Selene landed inside the room, her back turned to Kuhn. “Selene…” As if Kuhn’s words reached her ears, she collapsed.
