    I have a dilemma /tg/
Playing in a cyberpunk game, my character is a gun toting mercenary. During the last session I was lying at home asleep and heard someone moving about in the room I was in.
One scuffle later I have a thief tied up on my bed, top of the range equipment but no weapons, obviously sent to steal something not kill me.
She's a woman, between 18 and 25, my character is famous for being a moral mercenary, including never killing women, children or the unarmed. People hire me because I'm reliable and they know that I get the job done. This mixed with the fact that if I am caught the person who catches me knows I would refuse any job that was too large ordinance (Might hurt Civillians) means I get a lot of job.
I certainly can't kill her and someone hired her knowing I wouldn't, what should I do?
    No rape either, moral mercenary.
    >> OP Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)10:12 No.5110253
BTW, this is definetly someone testing me, while she does have some pretty nice gear, she was obviously an amature otherwise I wouldn't of heard her.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)10:12 No.5110255
Interrogate her and/or depending on the setting turn her over to the Authorities.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)10:13 No.5110256
    Turn her into the authorities.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)10:13 No.5110259
Yeah, find out who she is by whatever interrogation doesn't bother your character.

Then, turn her in to the cops. If the cops are all evil in the setting, let her go but tell her you'll kill her if you see her again.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)10:15 No.5110265
You could drive her to some desolate area and set her free there, without the equipment.

    But >>5110255 is probably better.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)10:15 No.5110266
Oh and you might want to keep the Equipment with you, might be able to trace it back to whoever hired her if you can't get any names out of her.

Talk her into becoming sympathetic with you, so she trusts you. Then attach a small tracking device to the item her employers want and send her to give it to them, along with a note saying "If the girl dies, you die."

Then wait until the girl comes back or you learn of her death or you waited long enough, break into a military facility, find something that shoot missiles, aim it at the tracking devices coordinates.

I just did, grabbed her and ran her though a scanner.
We recently did a big job on a Medical company, surgery and drugs.
She's got a bomb in her, remote explosive. Probably the only reason it hasn't gone off it because my entire house is lead lined and I have jammer technology and that's stopping the signal.
I am very, very glad I'm also the team medic right now.
I've got her on the table right now and I'm putting her to sleep. They probably put it in her when they gave her the things, you know, a microneedle hidden in a glove or something and drugs so she didn't notice the black out.
This is very bad but at least I know who sent her.

One flashbang tied to a door handle.
A few lasers which set off very nasty traps when activated (One of them removes teeth fillings through the face, I love giant magnets.)
Several security locks, the front door is 1 ton of solid Metal, the entire flat is lead lines and reinforced heavly enough to take a small nuclear missle directly.
Oh, and a penis scanner, which works of DNA finger printing, jam it in and the door opens. Not a single person apart from my character has had the guts to stick theirs in there yet as the 'Access denies' involves a large laser blade (I bought it discount and it guards the inner part of the house where I am right now, armoury, surgery, training area and my vault.)

And the rest of the group said I was crazy for putting so much into my house.

What you want is something to make them take longer. Time is your friend, you have allies arriving don't you?

Flashbangs, claymores, anything to make them more cautious.

If your strong, furniture would be a good barricade over some doors. If they can get through the door they can get through that but still, it's time they have to spend that won't involve shooting you.

Liquids on the floor. Oil, water, whatever you have. Time is what you need. If you take a few out too, all the better but time is great.

It's night right? Flashbang trap. Well hidden. In a dark room after a couple more. Night vision is not their friend.

That's all the traps I can think of off the top of my head. Sorry mate. I'll do some more thinkin' nothin' better to do.

If they were serious about taking you out, they'd just take out the bottom floor of the building. Some detcord and/or C4 for the main load-bearing bits, and your superbox on floor 8 comes tumbling down.

As it is, slap some surgical glue on the girl instead of manual stitches, and get to your impenetrable box. Having sent a strike team means they're trying to get at you directly, rather than bringing down the house. Your box should buy you enough time for the party to get there.

This is the work of someone who:
    1) Knows enough about you to know you were an orphan,
    2) Doesn't know enough about you to know that there's a jammer in your house.

The payload of the bomb means someone with a lot of resources, the detonation trigger means someone hopelessly inept.

Or someone fed someone else bad information.

Or the bomb was never supposed to go off, and someone's pulling some 'testing you' bullshit and is happy to risk the lives of orphans to do it.

Sounds like middle management in a company with that.

Has your file, knows your history but didn't do any independent research.

Access to large amounts of resources but not the cleverness to back it up.

I think your being dealt with by the middle management of a supercorp. That doesn't mean the CEO isn't gunning for you, just that you haven't been judged to be a huge threat.

Oh course I have no evidence to back that up. That's just a hypothesis. One that can wait for not-being-shot-time.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)13:06 No.5111301
If you have some furniture available in the hallway outside the apartment, place a shotgun underneath it to cover as much of the corridor as possible. You want it to hit their legs or feet, if you have an automatic, set it to automatic fire and load up as many shots as you can.
Make sure the furniture will stay still when it fires, make a discrete wire attached to the door. If your GM is a nitpicker, make simple weight to pull the trigger to make sure it keeps firing no matter what happens to the door or wire after the trap is triggered.

If you might be in deep shit you could have the safe room be a trap too, just get as much explosives as you can, make it look like you've set up for a last stand in the back, hide out in the supply closet down the hall and take out the stragglers after the explosion.

If you decide to try the bomb from the girl, make sure you grab some gas masks and her incision is properly covered. Just a wet towel should be able to absorb enough to avoid seeping into the incision, but contact agents are still a problem.

    Oh Bobby!
    What a pickle.
If the advanced team is waiting on the 7th floor, you are on the 8th, they aren't waiting. They are gathering intel.
Which is what you should be doing. Eve considered the fact that these might be your friends? Did she reset the sensors to detect allies as enemies? Also, ever heard of surgical glue or even staples?
On the plus side, they are looking for a house weekness. If a SWAT style team is advancing on your house, what are their standard operating procedures? They already know the layout of the house, they know their targets location and they know you are experienced.

Which means, this is a 'screw you' job. This girl is the key, and you must find out exactly who is setup on the 7th floor.
    This is imperative.
If they are your buds, the screw you job multiplied by an ingenious factor, if it is an advanced SWAT, escape is going to be a feat. The SWAT's first infiltrating maneuver is to cut off all exits, then to cut off all external communications, then to isolate the target. The strategy is to corner you.

Goal 1, scan the rooftop and the nearby fly zone + Snipers. Use this as your decoy, pop smoke and retreat. See how the advanced team responds.

Goal 2, Test/scan emergency escapes, it is very likely they have been trapped. Remember you have had an infiltrator with enough time to do whatever until you woke up.

Goal 3; don't ignore the obvious exit as the best exit. Depending on how well they know you they may not expect the obvious, also they may also have the resources to cover everything!

Goal 4; Contact your teammates! Coordinate!

Goal 5; your escape plans should be stuck to by the letter. Don't deviate, and trust your hidden cache's of weapons or supplies along your route.

Right, I spent the entire time they were on the 7th floor setting out traps. A lot of traps, grenades, claymores, small gas traps, ball bearings, marmalade on the door knobs, hell, I've even set up a spring loaded groin height spikey stick in one of the door frames for good measure, now all there is to do is wait.
I've retreated to the safety area. The motion senseors warned me that they were coming up the stairs.
My camera at the door counts at least 10, maybe 12 of them, black suits, rifles and, damn, gas masks, that makes the gas useless, still, the acid'll do something to them.
They kick down the door and I grin, welcome to hell boys, and I'm your host Satan.

    >> Anonymous 07/06/09(Mon)14:40 No.5112082
The girl is still out on the table, she won't wake up for at least another 3 hours and she's tied.
They leave the screens view, instantly there's a loud Bang from outside across the microphone I placed in the living room as they kick the door in and set of the 3 flash bangs tied to it. A shout as one of them blunders into something and the sound of gun fire. Motion stops on one of them.
The others recover with suprising speed and move through, more cautious now, a thud as they fall over the ball bearings and the sound of total chaos as the claymore tied to the roof above the doorway one of them just went thoug goes off, good thing there's nothing of real value in this house outside the vault right now. 4 down at least in under 15 seconds, not bad all things considered.

Should've rigged grenades to fall in the doorway when the door was kicked open. Would have preferably been WP.

Suggestion: if it comes down to it alternate flash band & a more damaging type of grenade. Once again I prefer WP. Everyone loves Shake an' Bake.

The rest of them make their way through the rest of the apartment, losing another 5 or 6, I lost count of the shouts before managing to find the blast door in my room, they must not of known about it as one of the remianings says ;What's that sarge?' before they enter the room.
I haul my riot sheild onto my arm and pull out my lucky shotgun, there's only two left. I can handle two, if the mine and other trap don't get them.
As they step across the threshold of my bedroom an explosion shakes the building, the mine blows up killing all but one, I can't hear the screams through the safe house door, but I can hear them over the microphone.
Their seargeant is all that's left. The motion detector shows him moving over to the door of the safe house. I grasp the handle, the acid grenade over the door dumping at least a litre of HCl pH1 into his bare face, he falls to the floor in pain and I open the door, grab him and tape him before throwing Alkali into his face, it'll neutralize it enough to stop him dying at least.

Not a clue, I got it from another thread on /tg/

I smile, an entire team, we've done that before as a group but I've never done it by myself.
Then I hear the van screech in the street, look out the window and downwards, large, black, hulking and armoured. Looks expensive. Another team at least, maybe a hit squad, maybe even other mercenaries.
I quickly grab what's left of my depleted armoury and tie up more traps, if they kill me, they're going to find my corpse on a massive pile of their fallen dead because I am not, NOT giving up that girl to die.
Motion tracker detects them on the 1st floor as I set up traps, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, spring traps near door up, 5th, kitchen done, 6th, 7th, resetting the locks on the blast door. Rush over to the computer. Look at the monitor and hear on the microphone.
"Come on, you saw the explosion, if he's alive he's caputred, we can't let them know we're coming, charge in guns a'blazin."
I stand there for a second, not comprhendng what my brain is receving, that's Earl at the door, the bare Knuckle boxer, what's he doing with a hit te...
Then it hits me, it's my team.

    "Shit! Don't open the door!!!"
I grab the blast door and tear it open, nearly poping my arm out of it's socket, just as I hear the sound of the front door being rammed, I have to get there first.
I rush to the living room just as the front door bursts open and Earl rushes in, sweat pouring down his forehead.
Time slows to a crawl as the Spikey, groin height steel spring-loaded steel stick swings gracefully out from behind the door and hits him full in the crotch with the force of a horny Bull Elephant, sending him flying backwards into the rest of the team and through the wall on the other side of the corridor. Then the spring on the other side of the room cracks like a whip, throwing 5 flashbangs and 2 tear gas grenades into the pile of my comrades...
Eventually, after our ears stop ringing as the gas clears everything is quiet for a moment, then in a wheezing, squeaky voice, Earl whispers.
    "Well...looks like he's fine...Unlike me..."
And that's how it went down.
The girl's woken up and staying with me, the team is all fine except Earl who lost a testicle and I now owe everone a beer as an apology, however they owed me a beer since I was right about not being paranoid so it evens out.
