Stage 125: The things that must be done....You are finally home. It's taken a while but you feel confident that your home, the penthouse of an apartment building overseen by something older and freakier than any youkai of the Age of Legends would be, is fairly safe and secure. Between your sister, an eminent fortuneteller and seer, your personal seer Er Yin-sensei, and the ancient being that owns the apartment complex, the place has been warded and purified to the point of sterility, if it weren't for the plants, artwork, and other feng shui your sister added to prevent just that. It is a safe haven and a place of warmth, love, and beautiful pastels. That last was non-negotiable.You and your wife took a nice long time in the baths getting clean and reacquainted with each other after not having any such opportunities for far too long. You've made the first and most critical arrangements to enforce the will of the Jade Emperor (may he live Ten Thousand times Ten Thousand Years) on the Buddhist demons and devils that your sister inadvertently sicced on you in the interests of preventing her own vision of the doom you will be bringing to Japan. Never mind that you were meant to bring this doom by order of Amaterasu-Omikami's own wishes; your sister wasn't entirely privy to that situation until after the fact, and by then it was too late for a lot of things. Nevertheless her heart is still in the right place and you are very happy that she is with you here, along with newer members of your family such as the slightly dazed enlightened immortal Yuuhi-chan, the keeper of Horobi's underwater palace Shoko, and the handsome and shy tomboy that is the daughter of the kamuy of the hunt and childbirth.
>>48290774The other members of you close knit and rather strange little clan are equally happy to be home, reunited and safe alike with their own loved ones. While the Edict delivered in the name of the Jade Emperor must take precedence over all, at the moment you've done all you can, even to the point of sending a missive to the Mill Pond Demon, a kappa who could potentially help you to heal Er Yin's spiritual and physical damage. The edict might not forbid you from doing anything else, but at the moment your content to nibble on a mocchi ball and snuggle with Kiki-hime on the couch. But time will pass, and you do have things on your mind, critical things. Still Kiki-hime is dozing off every few minutes, and the talk has become subdued and earnest. It might be time to take some time to yourself, or to discuss matters of subtle import, rather than exciting and troublesome things. Try and nail down more information on the Mill Pond Demon. Take Kiki-hime to bed and try and sleep for a while. Send Yui-chan and Akari-chan to bed – they've been overworked and injured, respectively. Put Kiki-hime to bed and send Akari and Yui to bed, and talk with the elders of your clan for a bit. Suggest everyone join you and Kiki-hime in the master bedroom and just let everyone relax and bask in each other's presence.

Hi XS! How are you?>Tell us there is going to have a disasterwhy must you torture me like that?>>48290838That pic is wrong, wrong I say! There is no mention of Akari.

>>48290797>>48291066Sure, I'll support. Ryukusa time!
Slow day, huh. Friday lull taken to the next level.
[X] Put Kiki-hime to bed and send Akari and Yui to bed, and talk with the elders of your clan for a bit.[X] Suggest everyone join you and Kiki-hime in the master bedroom and just let everyone relax and bask in each other's presence.[X] Try and nail down more information on the Mill Pond Demon. Some of the side effects of the changes you have been going through aren't all that pleasant to be honest. Not sleeping is something you were capable of before you became – started becoming – what you are now, but that was a matter of necessity or choice. Now you just don't need to if you're spiritually balanced. Same with eating; it's nice, pleasant even, but you don't really need all that much food. Even the pleasant afterglow of you lovemaking only soothed your mind and body; sleep is far away from you at the moment.Shoko-san, Jinyuu-onee-sama, and Er Yin-sensei don't seem very tired either, and Kiku-chan, settled next to Er Yin's seat, doesn't look sleepy at all. In fact, she seems suspiciously NOT sleepy, and neither of them seems particularly interested in retiring despite how much time they have been apart.“Why don't we take this to the master bedroom, and all relax there,” you suggest softly, gathering a rather undue amount of attention from most of your family, though Kiki-hime only looks up at you with a mildly quizzical look that has nothing to do with jealousy over spending your first night with the whole clan in your bed. Akari is nonplussed, of course, while Yui almost looks panicked before Akari takes hold of her hand and helps her to stand as she gets off the couch. A single glance and Yui is calming, understanding that her mostly self imposed status as 'servant' is equal to that of her lover, and if she's allowed then Yui herself is allowed. Kiku-chan stands gracefully as well, as does her Master, and you note that Er Yin collects one of the bottle of sake that have been opened as well as a small stack of dishes to drink it with.
>>48291464Yuuhi-chan's ears prick up, and she beams brilliantly. “Slumber party?!” “Less fuckin' party and more 'fuckin' slumbering, Yuuhi,” Shoko says calmly as she gets up and bows to you and Kiki-hime as you stand, clearly intending to go to her own bedroom. Inau-kun, you note, seems to have presumed – correctly – that she is invited. Your elder sister also has assumed so. You do happen to note Inau-kun's rather wistful glance at Shoko's readiness to leave. Interesting. So it's just Shoko. Which makes a certain amount of sense – she tasked herself to service with you, but she hasn't really made herself part of your family – your clan – in fact. And you do need to discuss Yuuhi-chan's position as well. Still.... Ask her politely where she thinks she is going; she IS a member of Clan Ryuu. Be firm but gentle – she is NOT excused. Remind her kindly that she is included in “everyone”. Tell her that your bedroom is patently in the OTHER direction. Allow her to take her leave; it is her choice.

[X] Tell her that your bedroom is patently in the OTHER direction. [X] Be firm but gentle – she is NOT excused. [+] Teasing is an important part of an oni's balanced diet; she can leave later if she wants. You stand up, picking up your wife in an aptly named princess carry, much to her delight and soft giggles, which makes her jiggle in all sorts of attractive ways. “Shoko-san, that's not where the master bedroom is. I know you've been here long enough to know that.” Inau-kun glances at you gratefully, but you can't wink at her effectively without Shoko catching you. “But you said I wasn't one of your servants....” she starts, confused. She's technically correct, you did in fact tell her that. But she seems to have neglected the other things you did tel her. “I said I wasn't Horobi and that I don't hold any particular power over you. I also told Inau-kun that you are part of my household and mine to protect and succor. So you are going to come to bed with the rest of my household and family and relax, have a few drinks, and listen into any discussion we have while the other fall asleep.” She's been home this entire time and probably under a great deal of stress having little to do in a home that she doesn't really feel at home in. Her eyes are downcast, but the come up blazing when Yuuhi pokes her with the butt of her nodachi. “Told you.” Shoko glares at Yuuhi, but it's only a mild glare.“Besides, my bed is always better for having yet one more beautiful young woman in it.” Inau-kun turns her head and lowers her chin, nose held tight, while Shoko splutters meaningfully while you turn and walk towards the bedroom before she can actually say anything. Kiki-hime is giggling again and you nuzzle her horns lovingly as she hugs you. She whispers confidentially, “I think Inau-kun likes our housekeeper....”“You might be right.”
>>48292674The others are already making their way into the bedroom, and Yui is carrying a large jar of your plum wine. Kiki smiles at Shoko-san, and Shoko looks abashed at having thought she wasn't invited. You're all too familiar with that special smile, and you've already had to take steps to avoid the paralytic power of it on a couple of occasions. The bed is already becoming well occupied, though you note that Akari and Yui have already claimed a section near where you and Kiki-hime would be sleeping; you make sure to place Kiki-hime there. Pillows are rearranged, blankets and sheets moved about, glasses filled and you make sure that everyone is given a glass, though Yuuhi sniffs at the potent liquor suspiciously. Sitting cross legged, Kiki-hime leaning against you, your family and friends together once again, you lift your dish of alcohol and the others look to you. “To Clan Ryuu and our allies; we have come so far, and carried heavy burdens. Our burdens may become greater, but our family and loved ones are more than worth any measure of weight we will carry.” The traditional salute is not loud or boisterous, it is soft but well meant. In the soft light of your bedroom, in a bed so similar to that of your mikoto's reign, you are toasted, with the scent of sandalwood incense, plum wine, hot sake, and cherry blossoms, you are toasted. “Kompai....” You drink as do the others, and the actual settling in begins.
>>48292702Small talk is small and soft, with much soft laughter and gentle teasing and gentle wit, but eventually it becomes more quiet as Kiki, Akari, Yui, and Yuuhi settle into a soft sprawl of sleep. Inau-kun, yourself, Shoko, your sister, Er Yin and Kiku-chan are awake still. Kiku is in Er Yin's lap, cradling a cup of tea, while her Master strokes her coiling tail absently; Shoko is at the end of the bed, leaning on the edge of the floor rather than the ledge (being taller than everyone else as she is), while your sister is sitting next to you and you are cross legged in the middle of the bed. Inau-kun is sitting on the ledge between Er Yin and Shoko. There's still room for three or four more people. “So....I have issues with going to the kappa. I'll tell you what I recall of the problems, and please tell me if I get anything incorrect.” Sadly, with your perfect recall, you don't get anything incorrect and when you tell the tales out loud, it only cements the issue when you summarize it. “The seems more and more like a trap laid out by the priestess of Kinashut Kamuy, using the disasters that befell an innocent miller. There isn't any one who can help us better, and the price is something that is going to specific to him and him alone, based on what he is now rather than who he was or what his past is. And what he is now is a very potent, possibly very twisted kappa who is more youkai than anything else.”The others pretty much nod and make sounds of agreement. Well, shit, you're not helping any further! Let me look up my backlog of questions.... Right, so what do you have that can help me beyond this point? What about Hinata-hakase? This isn't that much different.... Does anyone have ANY other option that might be useful?

>>48292967>She wants a dragon pearl, and Ryukusa already owes her for sending her cousin and the others to take care of. She is supposed to ask for the Tide Lowering Pearl from her father for Hinata already, but that was payment for services rendered.

>>48293096Those are good questions anon. >>48292822 I'll add to my vote.
>>48292946>>48292970Do NOT contact Hinata-hakase. We're never giving her any pearl. Unless maybe as a punishment for a dragon-child who has been pure, unforgiveable evil.
>>48293070I still don't get how it's Ryukusa who has to pay for her cousin. HE got himself in this mess, it's not because she suggested "if you go there, you might not die" that she's the one who has to pay the tab.
>>48293125There's always negotiation. Obviously we wouldn't give up any pearls. She's probably easier to negotiate with safely than the kappa...probably.
>>48293150>It's Japanese obligation; she informed him that Hinata-hakase could help, she allowed him to live, his life is her responsibility, ergo Hinata-hakase is owed that favor. Likewise, if Hinata-hakase harms him, she would owe Ryukusa instead, for making the offer of sanctuary a lie.
>>48293214No.Do not negociate with someone you know the cost is too high. And with her, the cost is always too high when such matters are at hand. She's very, very last resort
>>48293217Uh. Seriously? Being Ryukusa is difficult.
>>48293257>>48293257>being Japanese is difficultFTFY. This really happens all the time.
>>48293257The real price of mercy, you could say.
>>48293239But aren't we bound by obligation to pay her back eventually anyway?
>>48293339Yes. Don't increase the tab, it's already too big.
Sorry if I'm rash as fuck, but I can't stress this enough: increasing the amount we owe to Hinata is bad as fuck.I just remembered something: we should try to see if this Clan Ryo old sorcerer is still around. We wanted to consult him about the kappa, but then Wakaba happened.
>>48293478Good idea, Anon.>>48293339We're already bound to pay her one Large Favour, incurring another would be too much.

>>48293715Anon pls don't tempt us to tempt fate and do that first
>>48293715Is it something only we can do, or can we tell someone else how to do it? Like the onus only applies to us with stopping Enma, right?
>>48293726Yeah i am sure we can just leave our cute paper wall for a couple of more years. I am sure she will not be sad or anything and still be there when we get back.
>>48293715I didn't forget about her. It was among the first things I wanted to vote for, last time, but we didn't go at the palace.
>>48293757We have to do it, I'm pretty sure, since she waited for the next incarnation of Horobi's mikoto.
>>48293715We can talk it over with our advisors. If necessary, we can figure out whether we have time to complete the Jade Emperor's request then go down there to heal the screen, or whether we need to send someone down there to do it for us. I imagine it's not terribly dire, just a question of a bit more defense for our palace and an extra type of ally, in exchange for having to go there or send one of our family there.
>>48293766We literaly can't go to the palace right now.
>>48293800Sure you master sending some one else must mean she cares right? right? I mean you might have love to see her but i am sure she is busy saving the world and stuff.
>>48293856We can include her in our prayers. Also, we still have to commission this Noh theatric play for the two oni who dishonored themselves patheticaly. Maybe we could include the cute paper door spirit in it, like a framing device?

[XXX] Let me look up my backlog of questions....[XX] Right, so what do you have that can help me beyond this point?[X] Does anyone have ANY other option that might be useful?[X] What about Hinata-hakase? This isn't that much different....[+] What if we prove it's Kinashut's fault?[+] Why do kappa have healing powers they can grant to others anyways? “Okay, let me look at my notes.” you summon notebook out of ~Nowhere~ and peruse it, much to the shock and surprise of everyone awake, with the sole except of the person who can't actually see it and doesn't think there's anything written on the pages anyways because she's blind and has more sense than most. You throw it back into nowhere just as quickly and cross your arms. “So, beyond him being a painter and needing paints that would survive underwater which is a stupid idea anyways because he can just paint on land anyways,” which is absolutely true and blows some of the information you got from the remainder of Wakaba's people out of the water (ha ha) and annoys you that you didn't realize it was stupid earlier, “what can we really offer this kappa anyways?” Though most of them are still dumbfounded that you actually checked notes, Er Yin-sensei speaks up. “Very little, to be honest, Ryukusa-sama. It simply comes down to the problem of not having much in the way of current and reliable information about the Mill Pond Demon as he is now. Everything I showed you was in the past.” Kiku-chan speaks up. “It is a youkai, and there is no such thing as a predictable youkai, baka dragon. We are lucky we have this information to work with at all. Most youkai are even more inscrutable.”
>>48293992You frown and tilt your head, looking at nothing in particular. “how is it that kappa are healers, or grant healing powers to others? I've been told about the man who gave the kappa-boy's limb back and was taught medicine, but that parable doesn't really fit with anything else, like sucking people's guts out of their-” Inau-kun interrupts, her face redder than Akari's eyes. “It comes back to their phenomenal healing ability, Ryukusa-san.” You look up at her quizzically. “Like an immortal, a kappa can regenerate from almost any wound as long as they are touching the water of their birth. Their arms are also strangely detachable and if you can return a stolen arm, they will reward you with their friendship. Kappa are also wrestlers, partly because they have to work so hard to prevent their water from being spilled. So they have become experts at bone setting and joint afflictions, the two most common complaints.” “A legend, partly based in fact,” Er Yin agrees. “If you can force it to spill its water, and then refill the bowl, then it will serve you for the rest of your life. That that is something like asking you not to chase skirts,” your elder sister comments mildly, a smile upon her lips as she sips sake from behind her fan. That prompts soft amused laughter and eases the tension a bit. “I don't chase skirts, I chase what's under them,” you claim loftily, much to your sister's and Inau-kun's embarrassment. “As a long shot, is there any way to prove that his death was the fault of supernatural forces conspiring against him?” You mention no names, but sadly the point backfires. “You said it yourself – Kinashut's hand is invisible, if it was there at all. It is a youkai, and the kamuy are far older and more subtle in their effects on the world in comparison to a kami,” Inau-kun points out.
>>48294008“And before you ask, no, Hinata-hakase isn't an option. You said that you owe her already; my Master's injury is terrible, and would require her to use her full power.” You note that Kiku-chan is more open about her master in the present company. Interesting, and rather cute.“I was going to ask, but that seems a moot point. Is there ANY other option we can explore?” You aren't entirely desperate yet, but you are getting there. A soft moan from behind you prompts you to gently pet Akari's head with your tail, caressing her horn lightly. It seems to relax her enough that she drifts back to sleep.Inau-kun and Er-Yin speak as one. “Yes.”All eyes are on them, though Kiku-chan merely looks at Inau-kun, which makes the hunter blush. “I told you before – demigods are creatures of three elemental strengths and two weaknesses. You haven't take full strength yet, but if you took the power of Wood for yourself, you could be able to heal Er Yin.” I've been resisting the choice for a while now for a reason. And what if it turns out I need the power of Fire to combat magic? I've been thinking hard and I still haven't made that decision. What about the Ryo Clan sorcerer? You realize that what you're suggesting might not work?

>>48294026> I've been resisting the choice for a while now for a reason.> What about the Ryo Clan sorcerer?>Please forgive me for this, Er Yin-sempai-chan and Kiku-cutie-chan. It is not a question of selfishness. I simply do not feel myself to be Wood more than the other remaining elements. At worst, if I choose an element that does not fit me, I could be unable to heal Er Yin.I still think Ryukusa is more Fire.>I have a Clan Ryo spymistress I need to pay a visit. I could probably have her tell more the Mill Pond Demon, as compensation for not completing her task.We are sparing her, sure, but her tab is not erased yet.
>>48294093>>48294146I can't see Ryukusa as anything like Wood. One can't choose this based on the power it grants
>>48294026>[X] I've been thinking hard and I still haven't made that decision.>[X] You realize that what you're suggesting might not work?>[X] What about the Ryo Clan sorcerer?
>>48294230odd i see her way more as wood then as fire.
>>48294230Couldn't you also base it not on who Ryukusa is now, but who she must -become- to accomplish what she must, the way she wants?
>>48294230At the same time, her state of mind is a large part of her elemental affinities as well - actually embracing the element might go a long way towards realigning herself with it if they are in fact poorly compatible.
>>48294026 What about the Ryo Clan sorcerer? I've been thinking hard and I still haven't made that decision. And what if it turns out I need the power of Fire to combat magic?>>48294218I'd prefer us not to shut down the wood path just yet until we've looked at all of the information.
>>48294283I don't think it's good to do that. Ryukusa became of Void when her actions made her so, not the reverse
>>48294230The lack of choice in an element, along with using the jewel on her elder sister, might show that Ryukusa has a problem with growing into her role, which would make sense given her upbringing being stunted.Who she is might be farther-aligned with Fire, but would her role in things make more sense with Wood?
>>48294320Well, my vote is not shutting it down.
>>48294351Whoops, misread it, my apologies, anon.
>>48294331It's worth raising.>>48294026>Is it even okay to base my choice on what I might think I should be, instead of what I might feel attuned to now?
>>48294347>would her role in things make more sense with Wood? Not as far as I can see.
>>48294283I don't really see that working out either. Wood seems to me to be the least destructive of the elements, and what it does destroy it does horribly through disease or cancer. It seems at odds with both the function and duties of Horobi, and the methods Ryukuza seems most willing to employ. To be blunt: I don't think Horobi has any noticeable connection to Wood, and I don't think it's a good idea to make one.
>>48294093>>48294146>>48294218>>48294230>>48294258She already has aspects of Wood in her regeneration, and aspects of Fire in her ability to see destructive intent/forces/power/capacity. (Fire Eyes and Wood Eyes aside). She was also told that she would keep everything she learned before she takes the last choice, but she could choose which to concentrate upon and in what ways - i.e. she would not lose fire eyes if she chooses wood, and she would not lose regeneration if she chooses Fire. The one element she can't chose is Stone, because anon collectively has been avoiding anything of that ability like the plague. she has concentrated more on Fire than on Wood, but the capacity is still there. >>48294283>>48294289These are very good points to keep in mind. It is a choice after all.>You can change votes if you like.
>>48294421Wood utterly ruins Stone.Tree roots have destroyed more buildings, foundations, and roads than any number of earthquakes. Wood is also the element of poisons and medicines, as well as breath.
Wood is all about observinging the growth of things and pushing them toward one of the set paths that exists for them.Ryukusa is more the kind to create a new path, because it's the right thing to do.
>>48294424Well I voted to ask about the sorcerer before anything else. But I'm not opposed to Wood Ryukusa. A clearer vote for that after would be nice.
>>48294448>Someone tries to do a Tarot reading of Ryukusa>All the cards change into the 23rd Arcana: Ryukusa
>>48294478As expected of a Ryuu.
>>48294424Didn't we use stone one or twice in Barrier Combat?
Wasn't our regeneration based on the mermaid's Water-aligned flesh?
>>48294448I mean, that's one of the major problems for me. Wood is growth, not change, and it relies too much on rigid ways.
>>48294492No, she used her left arm, which is more of an artifact than an ability associated with the Stone element.
>>48294542We used stone on the Oni. He drew us in with a whirlpool and we shattered his sword/brother.
>>48294542>>48294492No, she used her left arm, which is more of an artifact than an ability associated with the Stone element.>>48294516Regeneration is a Wood aligned ability. Flesh - the body - is literally a Wood element substance. Water would be blood (which is the yin to the yang of breath/chi) and the endocrine system. >>48294448That is referring specifically to Wood Eyes. Creating paths is Void or Metal, though all the elements can make ways in different methods.
>>48294542>No, she used her left arm, which is more of an artifact But can she still flex it and make her wife swoon?
Guys wood to grow a new japan after we waste the current one. What you fire help?
>>48294594With her left arm, anon. >Your arrival as he swings his sword down brings that danger and the beauty it could have been to a sudden and violent end as you backhand his sword, shattering it into pieces as your truly invulnerable left hand and your Shen augmented scales blow through the transformed oni.
>>48294666The Shen enhanced scales are because we chose Stone as our Barrier Combat technique for that movement.
>>48294685True, but this choice is for stuff outside of barrier combat, like we use Void and Water. We always have all five options in Barrier Combat.
>>48294700Yeah, I'm not arguing against that. Just correcting XS when she said that we never used Stone in barrier combat.
Future best girl Mokumokuren-chan would want us to chose wood since she is part wood her self.
>>48294641Fire is civilisation, knowledge, crafting.
>>48294748>implying miss wood wouldn't want to be dominated by scary fire
>>48294777Imaging how a-door-able she would be running away from Kiku she just cant handle the heat.
>>48294777>>48294830But metal doms fire so clearly earth would dom wood
>>48294856Do you think she would mind being painted some pastel color to match the rest of the house?
>>48294877Don't bully the door, anon. I bet she has her own unique fashion.
>>48294877I'm 100% sure this is someones fetish
>>48294897Its not like i am poking holes in her paper.
[XXX] What about the Ryo Clan sorcerer?[XX] I've been resisting the choice for a while now for a reason.[X] I've been thinking hard and I still haven't made that decision. She relaxes as you wind your tail along her shoulders and stroke her hair with the soft vanes, and her grip eases to something slightly more tolerable. She didn't draw blood, but she definitely sprained things. You expression was apparently fairly alarming, and you quickly motion everyone to sit down and relax. Er Yin-sensei merely smiled, and you sister's eyebrows shot up a bit, but neither of them were particularly alarmed. You glance back at Akari, and she seems to be dreaming heavily, and badly, but otherwise seems all right. Her blood is moving a little fast, and she's got a lot of hormones and adrenaline, but she's also pregnant, and she's had morning sickness before so that's not entirely unusual.“What about the sorcerer you tutored under, Kiku-chan? Would contacting him be worthwhile? You mentioned he was a capable healer....” Akari is calming down now, and you relax as well.Kiku-chan frowns. “For something like your arm, yes – but for something like this, you would be placing her Pearl under his direct control for healing. She's also an enemy by the Clan's laws, while you were not, aniki.” Oh, that's not good; she only uses your title when she's being dead serious.

>>48295008“I would accept your request that I do so, Ryukusa-sama, but I would protest that it places us in great danger from subterfuge, curses, and possession.” She smiles sadly. “And there is one other thing to remember – that if the Kami need you to make a choice, they may force one upon you.” Your blood practically freezes in your veins. “I haven't made that decision – I've thought about it, yes – but I haven't made that decision for a reason. I've never needed to or felt that the time was right to do so, Er Yin-sensei. And no offense to my priestess or my seer, or my sister, but it simply isn't something I feel I should decide out of hand. There are too many situations that could make the decision a bad one.” The hair on the back of your tail is standing on end, because your answer doesn't seem to have offended Er Yin or your sister, but has made them both worried. Very worried. Worried enough that Kiku-chan is looking form Jinyuu-onee-sama to Er Yin-sensei, though she seems as bewildered as Shoko and Inau-kun are.Akari moans softly and you pardon yourself, before crawling back and taking a cloth from ~Nowhere~ to wet and place over her head. It soothes her some, but she's apparently having some really bad dreams. Her blood is a very little bit hotter than normal, but her injuries are almost gone. Let her sleep a little longer and then see what those two are hinting at. Ask them quietly what they're talking about as you minister to your niji-chan. >>48295269I guess Wood then? But I don't think it matters which is kind of making me want to cry, because if we fucked up here, I'm not sure if anything we've done before or anything we do afterwards will really matter.
>>48295285Ryukusa pleases her wives better without wood!
Please pick what we've actually used, don't feel pressured to pick wood because you're scared. Fire fits much better and we actually use it.
>>48295024 Wake Yui and see if she can help with Akari before you continue the discussion.> Prepare yourself to make a choice. ….what's happening, you two. Tell me NOW.
>>48295294Cheer up anon, I'm sure XS wouldn't pull an actual unwinnable gamestate out of nowhere on us. I mean you could argue the decision has been looming so it's not literally out of nowhere, but the sudden extreme hurry would be.

>>48295294We just have to rely on Ryu's ability to see the meta and see the time split happening and fix it. She had 200 years in hell to learn about time magic and shit time to use that. >>48295323I have been for wood since the beginning.
>>48295294It's a white robe post, which means Choices That Really Matter. There are no unwinnable situations in Ryukuza Quest, it just means we have to start thinking about what we're seeing and react accordingly.
>>48295333I don't know it could be that there was a countdown we just forgot or ignored. I guess the thing I find most intimidating about this quest is that there's just so many layers to everything, so much so that even the people who have been here from the beginning probably haven't gotten it all. Kind of just makes me feel too stupid to play, especially now when I'm afraid that, however slight, my presence contributed to this really neat thing breaking.
Dam i love this quest, when we all start grasping at straws to try and find ways to keep the smiles smiling.
I am a dumb, could somebody explain to me what just happened?
>>48295346>I have been for wood since the beginning. And I maintain wood doesn't actually fit the character.
>>48295269Fire.But seriously, don't choose our element like that.>>48295323This is true.>>48295333I wouldn't say the decision has been looming. It's been discussed, sure, but it was never urgent. It was just one of the things we had to do as part of Ryukusa's journey.Seriously, forcing us to chose now would be a shit move, so I hope the Kami is ready to be on Ryukusa's shit list.
>>48295376No one actually knows so they're freaking out
>>48295389And I respect your opinion
>>48295376It's hard to tell, since the first post was made twice, only with subtle differences, also some of the wiser characters are now super worried, and it's a White Robe post and we were told a disaster was going to happen and everything is really scary.
>>48295376We don't know.>>48295024Adding to my vote here: >>48295340>Activate Water Eyes. You need to see as much as you can.>>48295366The Red Robe hasn't showed up yet, and we all know Ryukusa choose the red robe.
>>48295395The Kami ARE jerks, though. Being Japanese is about carrying the weight even though it fucking sucks.I think that we'll need to make a choice soon, and should be prepared to figure out why each element would make sense, what each element would bring to us, and so on and so forth, because the Kami really are jerkish enough to force us to.
>>48295415Right, White Robe is what you have to live with, Red Robe is the choice, blah. Thanks for catching my slip-up.
>>48295376You see when anon hesitates too long to make chooses XS eventually need a answer out of us and is force to use white robe posts.
WAIT!I think I know what's the problem. Kiku used the sorcerer's name the second time. It could be some kind of illusion. After all:>t places us in great danger from subterfuge, curses, and possessionFor all we know we just triggered a curse, like the mirror thing. And Kiku calling us "aniki" might be another sign.
>>48295432No, White Robe is what you die with, Red Robe is what you live with.>>48295442That's not true.
>>48295422So let's start! In the pro-Fire camp, Ryukusa's affinity to the element has been brought up. I'm pretty bad when it comes to the elements of Japanese (well, east-asian in general) mythology/philosophy so I don't know what benefits it would bring Ryukusa should we pick it.Wood is somewhat less close to Ryukusa right now, but as XS pointed out the simple act of choosing to embrace an element will do a lot to mold Ryukusa and her element of choice together regardless. One anon brought up that it might be useful in rebuilding Japan after Ryukusa goes all Ryukusa on it? I'm not sure whether that'll be the case though.
>>48295451Wait you're saying that even mentioning the sorcerer triggered a curse of some kind?
>>48295451That's a good point too. I mean, in the end, focusing on the elements is mostly guesswork regarding what's going on based on the discussion we were having when things got bad times. Some kind of more direct, immediate threat unrelated to Ryukusa's nature and choices (or at least related in a different way) is very plausible and suits the confusing update well.
I find the very idea of being molded to your choice extremely distateful. It's like saying goodbye to who you are, dying and then have someone else that fit the criteria exist in your stead.
>>48295451Makes sense.>>48295464>That's not true.I lie a lot. >>48295467Fire and wood both have about equal benefits in my opinion.
>>48295478The question I have with that is, the first post didn't mention his name. Then the second post DID mention his name. XS explicitly posted that the order was centrally important - doesn't that mean the 'default' was NOT mentioning his name, and whatever happened to interrupt things whether it was illusion or timey-wimey bullshit or whatever interfered to make us say it? Thus saying his name was not the trigger, but rather the intended result or similar?
>>48295478It could, yes. I mean, he was part of the ones in charge of dealing with Er Yin, and it's the first time he was mentioned by Kiku, or even mentioned aloud, since we freed her Master.
>>48295493Molded could be less invasive then that anon, if an entire arsenal of new options are made available to us we may make different choices, like if wood gives us more subtle approches to a threat we may pick those instead of going straight to war, Ryukusa will change but it may be more how people just change over time rather than mind bending
>>48295502saying a magic users name in most cultures alert them of you using that name. But what bothers me more is the feeling that we requested something from your priestess that we cant recall.
I don't understand anything that's happening right now and I'm super scared.Just, I don't even know don't fuck it up. Please.
>>48295537I was slightly confused by that too, but after re-reading, is she not replying to this:>Would contacting him be worthwhile?
>>48295540Be calm young one the storm will pass. Have a cute foxgirl instead.
So wait, was XS just patiently waiting for us to remember Ahto to trigger all this, and we just did so at a really bad time?
>>48295502If we go by the idea it IS an illusion, then it could be a True Name deal.>>48295496Please don't lie for important things like that.
>>48295548I originally thought so too but it feels off
>>48295493I believe the idea is more that you make your choice after careful deliberation and soul-searching (ideally), or a desperate recognition of its usefulness (in more dire straits), and the process of picking said element over the others itself indicates that your nature is now more suited to said element and open to its nature. Basically it's more that whenever you do something you're unconsciously molding yourself to one element or another, and choosing an element is simply making that process conscious and focused maybe?
>>48295565How can we be calm when cute foxgirls such as this, and indeed cute girls of all shapes and sizes, are under threat?
>>48295585Then is it even thematically fitting to choose Wood out of fear/desperation?
Ok everyone who's panicking just take a deep breath. So the the fuckary happened just after Kiku mention the Healer Ahto-dono.Our seer and sister may have noticed, but our priestess certainly did not. If our seer and sister didn't noticed they are worried about what we said.We got a white robe with the post.Anything else anyone else noticed to be added? Lets figure out what happened before we make a choice
>>48295567The game rules she uses for this quest (at least partialy) are Amber Diceless. If I remember correctly, there is some events that happen to the PCs semi-randomly, but the GM is the one who interprete the exact resutl.XS could have picked a "disaster" event and just choose it'd manifest this way. Last time, we got sent to hell after something like "long journey"
What we need now is Super Mokumokuren-chan who can save us by breaking the timestream.
>>48295608The easiest approach is probably going with the question: how can we detect if there's any True Name fuckery going on right now? Let's do that. Or get our wives to do that or whatever.
>but her injuries are almost gone. Akari's been regenerating?
>>48295597that is a very good point all the foxgirls might be in danger and if there is something we simply cant have it is the endangered wild foxgirl numbers decreasing anymore.
>>48295637Well, she is really good at regenerating.
Hold on a minute, people keeping bringing in true name fuckary, but his name came up the second time not the first. How would it be true name spell work if the name was not mentioned until after the spell took hold?
>>48295637Dragonettes apparently heal quick, and Ryu's harem more quick if Ryukusa is nearby or touching them.
>>48295601It would be the antithesis of Wood, to choose Wood out of fear or despair
[XXX] Ask them quietly what they're talking about as you minister to your niji-chan.[XXX] Wake Yui and see if she can help with Akari before you continue the discussion.[XX] Wake Akari and take care of her; she's obviously having trouble.[X] ….what's happening, you two. Tell me NOW.[X] Fuck. Shit. Heaven. Kamifuckindamnit. You crawl past your sleeping loved ones – without a sound or even disturbing the bed – and settle behind Akari. With tail and hands you gently pull her head into your lap, and strokes her hand, wetting the cloth again as she settles into a deeper sleep. “You're being purposefully obtuse and mysterious, both of you, and I am becoming fairly alarmed.” If Akari were awake she'd be positively concerned at this point, But you're still calm and collected, nothing has happened that can't be fixed. “I just went through ten years of therapy in three days about keeping secrets from the people I love and you two are starting to pull at some very fresh scars.” You lay your hand on Yui's shoulder and she wakens instantly, her eyes bright in the dim lighting of the room. She grabs your arm, but doesn't try and throw or hurt you; a trained reaction, checking to see if she can or should attack or not. Probably learned in a very unpleasant manner. “Yui-niji-chan, Akari-niji-chan is ill.” She rolls out of her covers and is kneeling next to her lover in an instant, her hand hovering over face, mouth, chest, and heart, as well as pearl. Turning your attention back to Jinyuu-onee-sama and Er Yin-sensei, you can see they are both equally worried....no. Jinyuu is worried, about Akari. Er Yin is ~frightened~ for Akari. You narrow your eyes and focus your attention, and Er Yin's head snaps up, sightlessly gazing away from you but all her attention is just where you want it – on you. Jinyuu flicks out her fan and covers her chest as she fans herself, guarding her heart but leaving her face and throat exposed.
>>48295682Maybe even having him in your thoughts is bad enough? Also related question, what's the thematic significance of Jinyuu being shown?
>>48295682Yeah that's what I asked. My suggestion was that whatever happened wasn't actually true name fuckery, but rather something else meant to enable True Name fuckery. However, that's simply a guess. The problem is I've read the posts over a couple times looking for hints and other than the name I don't see any concrete hints to what's wrong. Which would make 'it's something to do with True Name fuckery' the natural conclusion if we're supposed to be able to figure it out right now. Whether it's the cause of it, or the goal.
>>48295709I DO NOT LIKE THE TEXT IN THAT PICTURE XS
>>48295709….vulnerable but unable to do anything to prevent what she knows is going to happen from happening. You touch Akari, and you feel her blood is....it's sluggish and fast by turns, a mixture of cold and hot, not dangerously either, just a degree or two of difference, but it is neither natural nor healthy. Yui's hand is over her center, and she looks up at you, far more worried than you want her to be. She shakes her head, unsure of what's happening, and her eyes glimmer with the power of the Void. You open your own Water Eyes, and you can see things are....confused, in turmoil. Akari's dreams are disjointed, torn and damaged, and she's struggling to collect herself in the dreams. You glance at Jinyuu-onee-sama, and you see her fear, the anguish of being in a situation she is not only powerless to stop, but unable to see to the end of even with her vaunted skills. Er Yin is better off, but not by much; she's had longer to come to terms with her weaknesses and inabilities, as well as the abilities she has. She isn't suffering from the dichotomy of knowing and being unable to act. The only question in her mind is when she should act and with how much force. And she doesn't mean physical force. You lean down and whisper softly. “Akari. Wake up. Aki-chan. Listen to me, you're safe. I'm here.” She shivers and she clutches your tail, but her grip is weak and her strength failing her. You look up. “Tell me what this is about now, one of you. Please.”It is Er Yin who answers for them both. “You know we cannot, Ryukusa-sama, even if we wanted to. What happens now is beyond either of us, right now.” She is gentle, kindly, and utterly not budging on the subject.“Tell me. Now, Er Yin-sensei.” You don't make your voice colder or steely. You let your feelings show through. Your fear, your knowledge that they know something, the worry that this involves Akari – oh so fuckin' obvious now – and the pain that their reticence is causing you.
>>48295750Well that doesn't sound good.
>>48295750You anon better chose wood
>>48295781I'm not sure even Wood healing Ryukusa would be able to solve this anon...
>>48295750The pain that tears through Er Yin's expression is almost enough to make you regret having done that to her. Her claws tighten over her diminutive lover's shoulders, but she merely closes her eyes and shakes her head once, the pain of being able to comply too much to bear. Quite literally, apparently, as she Er Yin starts to speak, but Inau-kun's eyes widen, and she leaps from her seat to race across the bed to where you and Yui-chan are, disturbing everyone and forcing you to block Yuuhi-s sheathed nodachi before the poor girl gets brained by an unconscious nogitsune-child. Yui-chan looks startled as well, and Kiki-hime sits up slowly. “Turn her head, turn her head,” Inau-kun demands of your oni-chick, and Yui obeys without question. Er Yin barely whispers the words, but you pick up on her agonized thought much more clearly. “Kami stuff.” Kiki-hime looks at you, confused and sleepy, as you feel the surge of Akari's blood, from deep in her body, the powerful muscles clenching so hard and violently that she spatters nearly black blood across Yui's lap and half of Kiki's body as she coughs it up.While Er Yin's words – not just about Kami Stuff, but about the Kami making sure you make a choice – echo hatefully in your brain, it is Inau-kun who voices the worst thing imaginable. Her eyes are filled with determination, however, and that alone gives you hope where by all rights you should have none. “Her body is rejecting the child.” >To Be Continued....BEFORE YOU PANIC!REMEMBER THE ONE THING DEMIGODS DO!....and have faith in yourselves. You did nothing wrong. No, not even you.Unless you didn't vote or argue, good or bad, with some conviction. Then maybe.
Oh, fuck this shit. You're making it hard to like you, girls.
Thank you for reading, playing, and worrying. I will stay to answer what questions can be safely answered.
>>48295795So we're going to fix, we're gonna heal Er-Yin.And then we kill a god.
>>48295815>WOOOOD!!!!great session was on the edge of my set till way to late at night.
>>48295795>“Her body is rejecting the child.”Fuck.
>>48295815Was the whole name stuff a red herring? What made the Kami feel so suicidal as to mess with Ryukusa? She could totally beat them up whatever you say, if it was to right injustice with the support of her family!
>>48295795what the fuck... what even brought this on?
>>48295840Well it makes sense she was apparently almost impossible to impregnate.
>>48295815Does Ryukusa think that we can successfully diagnose what is going on with Akari? Would Water + Fire Eyes or Water + Wood Eyes allow us to gain useful information to save both?
>>48295815We can find out which Kami did this right?
>>48295815As a Buddhist, how much is our sister still obligated to follow the Kami's whimsy? Also, wasn't Akari's pregnancy and child blessed by two different Kami, one thanks to Yui, one who was in her mask?
>>48295795Oh, that's a dick move!
I will give that Kami credit, he's willing to die for this apparently
XS forsaw this when she link to this video ages ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XLNFDJrqbk
>>48295856No, it was not.Kami stuff is Kami stuff. >>48295857Actually, it was somethign Jinyuu-onee-sama warned you about, and something that surprised just about everyone when it happened. Ryukusa shouldn't have been able to get Akari pregnant - ever. Yui asked Amaterasu-Omikami for a favor. But they're still wildly incompatible elements.
>>48295856Misinterpreted information on our part, I think. Ryukusa mentioning that she wasn't sure was confirmation of the event beginning. In the end, I don't think we'd have reached an agreement before something like this would have happened.
>>48295815Why so sadist XS? Does anon pain nourish you? Is this bullying?
>>48295901So would the solution is to move the child to a surrogate womb of some kind? Maybe put it in Yui?
>>48295901>No, it was not.I'm gonna laugh if it turns out we also have a completely different problem on our hands related to the sorcerer or whatever the problem with that update was, and nobody notices because of this disaster taking up all our attention. And by laugh I mean cry.
>>48295901But Ryukusa is Void, now. Isn't Stone compatible with Void?
>>48295870You have a professional midwife present. She'll probably be able to figure out EXACTLY what is happened. you also have a sorceress, a priestess, a seer, and some appretice healers. Chances are good an explanation will be found.>>48295872Why do you doubt Ryukusa so?>>48295883She isn't, but there are rules that seers have no control over that are universal. Yes, but that doesn't make her invulnerable to simply nature, curses, magic, or anything else. Blessings help, but they're not all powerful - even ones from Amaterasu-Omikami.
>>48295921Why would we not notice?
>>48295901Wait didn't Yui once say that even if Akari died she could say the child as it was? Could we not do that now? Even if it meant removing the fetus/pearl now and then giving it some emergency treatment
>>48295942>Why do you doubt Ryukusa so?It's time for Ryukusa to learn about another demigod past time, godslaying
>>48295945Well, anons might forget to comb every update from now on for hints relating to it!
>>48295906I'm a sadomasochist, anon. I share in your suffering too. Maybe.>>48295918Interesting ideas.>>48295924She is and always will be a Water Dragonette, regardless of being a demigod or anything else. Her facility with other elements can't erase what she is by birth and by nature. She can only grow to be more than just that - or fail to do so.
>>48295957see>>48295899This is the end game after we unite japan after the disasters we will unleash on it.
>>48295972>She can only grow to be more than just that - or fail to do so.Oh right, that other thing we need to worry about.
>>48295947Yui did in fact say that she could save the child even beyond Akari's death if she had to as long as the child was alive. It would absolutely destroy the poor girl to do so.
>>48295815Oh yeah, thanks for running XS.
>>48295985Ryukusa has been warned about that possibility already.
>>48295994But right now it could save both right? AT least we know our options
Well shit.UhTechnicaly, there is still that thing Amaterasu said to us. But it's best to not use it.
Was great to have a bit of despair in the air for the first time in ages. Reminds me of more desperete time in this quest before we had all these cool weapons and powers
>>48296017It's possible currently. And I meant emotionally destroy Yui, not literally destroy her.
>>48295957This is the Kami saying "Get your shit together". Horobi is ordered to cause disasters that will kill tens of thousands if not more, and this is absolutely necessary for the spiritual well-being of the country. Putting personal concerns ahead of the needs of the many is as morally repugnant as you can get in Japanese culture. Or, if you can't hack it, put in your resignation so that Susano-oh can get the job done.
>>48296015How much is this >>48295611 accurate, XS?
>>48296032RQ is all about power-creep.Well, it's also about suffering. RQ is all about power-creep, and suffering. And cute girls. The three most important parts of RQ is power-creep, suffering, and cute girls.
>>48296040Well, I doubt there would be much practical difference - I don't think Yui would bounce back from that kinda devastation to her psyche given how shit most her life was already.
>>48296056100% with you anon, some people just dont see you need the happy feelings to contrast the suffering and makes for a wonderfully despair filled story.
>>48296053It is moderately accurate, but neither perfectly so nor does it take into account willful intervention by the enemy, even if that enemy just happens to be nature taking it's normal course.Don't read to much into that answer, anon, you'll be worried over nothing too much to be able to make decisions.
>>48296044It is not that, almost certainly. There is exactly one Kami who can call us out on our duty. And she would never do something like this.Beside, we literaly can't go destroy Japan right now, we're on mission from the Jade Emperor, may he lives a million of times a million of years
>>48296092But anon has to be worried about SOMETHING, you can't expect them to just stop worrying at this point!
>>48296093Technically if Enma's demons are in Japan, destroying Japan is fuliffling our obligation.
>>48296080>>48296056>it is Inau-kun who voices the worst thing imaginable. Her eyes are filled with determination, however, and that alone gives you hope where by all rights you should have none. All is not lost!
>>48296044>Putting personal concerns ahead of the needs of the many is as morally repugnant as you can get in Japanese culture.Be that as it may it's pretty much how Ryukusa has operated, it's her family above all else, while she's trying to minimize the damaged when it comes to Japan or her Family she'll pick her family
>>48296092Fair enough.Wait. Wait.Did our sister and Kiku bless the bed?
>>48296109Worry breed suffering and that is what some anons try to steer the quest into. like with trying to distract anons with useless paper wall yokai.
>>48296121Translation can be read here. http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1836254
>>48296130yes they did
>>48296130Yes, the incense and baku statue on the wall above the 'headboard' was their doing. While Ryukusa and Kiki were not just bathing at that.
>>48296128>>48296044Ryukusa has the right to be morally repugnant, by divine mandate. Also, she's deliberatly going the extra mile to avoid her destruction causing too much troubles (though even unleashing the destruction is motivated by who her beloved are), while Best Sun would be content with a simple clean cut withtout too much collateral damage.
Feels like we need to apologize to poor Er Yin after this mess.
You know, back before we went on mission to deal with the foreigners, I feared something like that.
>>48296219>imageRyukusa will apologize with her butt?
I hope Ryukusa learns to enjoy getting spanked from time to time.>>48296219It's a hard moment for us too. We should apologize, sure, but I don't think we really did something awful.
>>48296240A much deserved punishment by this point would you not agree?
>>48296259Oh for sure, an excellent idea. She better apologize with words as well though.
>>48296251>The pain that tears through Er Yin's expression is almost enough to make you regret having done that to her. Her claws tighten over her diminutive lover's shoulders,I just feel bad for her hearing her goddess get angry with her. but we did not do anything wrong i guess.
>>48296251>>48296317Ryukusa's words aren't what hurt her the most; there are some rules seers are bound by that are universal in nature. Inau-kun saved her from a very bad situation there by distractign everyone. Purely coincidental. Surely.
>>48296393We better remember to thank Inau as well then.
>>48296413Chances are she wouldn't even know what you were talking about. That said, good night all. See you next week.
>>48296425Night XS! Don't run into any fires or double-shifts or anything and cliffhanger us for too long please!
>>48296425Goodnight, XS. Have more cuteness.
>>48296425Best of health to you
>>48296393So it's not that Ryukusa didn't do something awful, like these two say >>48296251>>48296317Ryukusa really did do something awful to Er Yin, but it was only thanks to Inau that Yin escaped the dire consequences of what Ryukusa did to her.
>>48296582>>48296425That's the end of my dump, good night XS.
>>48296549It should have been black, but cute it remains
>>48296600What's the source,anon?
>>48296631IQDB's (built-in to 4chan, click the arrow at the top of a post) reverse-image-search suggests an artist named petite-emi on gelbooru. This time is free, but please search for yourself before asking.
>>482966769 times out of 10 images aren't on a booru and google image search has literally never returned a result for me, so I long since stopped bothering with image searches unless I'm desperate,
>>48296717I'd suggest looking into Sad Panda's image search system, and I get ok results sometimes. I didn't even know the result before I searched.
>>48296779Sad Panda has an image search? Huh.
>>48296631By a staggering coincidence, I was just jacking off to some of this guy's art earlier. Rule34 puts the artist name as arbuzbudesh.
