    382 KB Mosaic Playtest Rules Earthflame !98PcYIvlCI 05/28/09(Thu)03:39 No.4686649
Hey /tg/, here they are, at long last. A full set of playtest rules for Mosaic. They're not perfect, some aspects will need reworking, and they're a little simplistic, but for now, its playable, and that's all I need for a playtest.

I'm going to be running a playtest over the next few weeks, anyone interested drop by #Vulcan or #Mosaic on the sup/tg/ IRC, or email me.

I'll be hanging around this thread for most of the day, so if you don't have the time or can't be bothered to get on IRC or email, just pop any questions or comments on the rules etc in here. I packaged the rules doc with the runechart, since you need one to use the other, but if people wanted, I could put the rules on pastebin or similar, since sometimes downloads etc are inconvenient.

A long awaited, probably forgotten /tg/ homebrew. I started it ages ago (Search Runic Magic System in the archives), and have been working on it on and off for ages. Basic concept is a fantasy world where all the magic is based off runes, but... well, read through the wiki stuff and all the old threads if you want all the juice, but the fluff has almost taken a life of its own. My next big problem will be writing it all out in a useful format.
    >> Earthflame !98PcYIvlCI 05/28/09(Thu)03:47 No.4686709

Sorry if that's problematic at all, its just the default format word saves in, so I rarely bother to change it. I've put it on pastebin if that's more convenient- http://pastebin.com/f1527e059
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)03:50 No.4686727
Probably the wrong time to post this. /tg/ is slow as fuck.
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)04:04 No.4686804
    When casting,
    Ones count as failures,
but everything still have to go against the set difficulty?

Can you clarify this a little more?
    >> Earthflame !98PcYIvlCI 05/28/09(Thu)04:07 No.4686824

Effectively, each individual Rune which succeeds contributes to the overall power of the spell. Its possible for all the Runes to successfully manifest, but the spell to fail, and its possible for one or two runes to fail to manifest properly, but for the spell to succeed. You just need to work out how the nature of the spell changes if a Rune is no longer present. I think I gave a few examples. Sorry, I'm not very good at writing things clearly. Could you narrow down your question a bit?

Eh, it'll pick up over the day, and I felt like posting first thing in the morning (Britfag)
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)04:12 No.4686863

Clearly, he should be writing it in LaTeX. Much better for formatting, and it comes out as a PDF! </CS nerd>

Looks interesting, though. I like the idea of a rune-based magic system...

...what the crap /tg/? You're always complaining about how shit doesn't get done, and why are homebrews always left half finished, and yet every time someone actually comes along with something developing and progressing well, its just ignored. A bump for shit having been done!
    >> Earthflame !98PcYIvlCI 05/28/09(Thu)10:18 No.4688825
    Another bump in hope.

I really do need more playtesters for this. If you want to try an interesting new fantasy RPG, and are free over the next few weeks, please drop into #Mosaic and say hello. I'll answer any questions and problems, and try to arrange enough people in the right place at the right time to get a game going.

At character creation, each of these stats are rated at d6, and you have two points to increase them. In addition, with GM permission, you may reduce a stat to d4 in exchange for an additional point. Stats increase in dice size as follows- d4, d6, d8, d10, d12. Without GM permission, you may not raise a stat to d12 at creation.

so if i D6 my int as 1

i can use 2 points to roll a D10 and use that stat ADDED or ON ONE DIE?
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)15:13 No.4690653
An increase in die size, I'm assuming that it's all one die and not added.
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)15:17 No.4690689

People don't really want progress, they just like to complain and fawn over spess muhreens.
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)15:18 No.4690694

    >> Xaras !pldw3xanYY 05/28/09(Thu)15:19 No.4690704
    The die is the stat.

You decide what die you will have for each stat at character creation. A d6 can be upgraded to a d8, etc.

For a skill check you have a DC. You then use [Stat Die]+[Skill Die]+[Runes] to defeat the DC.

Drawfag who did the runechart here - if you need anything else for the game, like a cover page or something, I'd be megadown for that. I won't be here in the next two weeks but I have some time tonight and tomorrow, so tell me if you want anything done!

Its great to hear from you again, thanks once more for your awesome work. I've got no sense of art or design, so I wouldn't know what I'd want, but I'll send your email address to Xaras, my collaborator, who has a better mind for that kinda thing, if that's okay with you?
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)15:37 No.4690841

Sounds good - I was thinking a logo might be nice, and maybe from that a cover page. Just something to give the game a visual identity and catch peoples' eye.

Yeah, I realize it's rather late in the design process, but have you heard of a DS game called LostMagic? It's got the whole runes and rune combining thing.
    >> Earthflame !98PcYIvlCI 05/28/09(Thu)15:55 No.4690926

Hadn't seen it up till now, but it looks interesting. Might have to track it down, see how it plays.
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)16:14 No.4691088

That's a cool logo. I find often with games like this, where they have every possible combination of runes mapped out, one or two combinations end up being way overpowered compared to the rest, which makes things kinda stale. But maybe that one is more balanced. WHO KNOWS?????????
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)16:50 No.4691373
Is it just me, or is the chart in the OP upsidedown?
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)17:06 No.4691505
It's a circle, there is no inherent up or downside
    >> Anonymous 05/28/09(Thu)17:18 No.4691607
It is upside down - the central rune has it's text wrong.
