Your name is Amy Nakamura, a 17 year old void Oni, and right now you’re trying to not fall asleep in English class. You were up kind of late last night after discovering some sort of thunder-Oni magic. That amazing discovery netted you a one way ticket to yard work this weekend. On the bright side you did manage to figure out how some of your Oni bullshit works, which was always neat. But on the not-so-bright side you didn’t get much sleep last night and now you’re suffering for it. English was one of your better classes as well, the material was somewhat interesting and the teacher wasn’t a giant asshat. It was after lunch as well, which meant that you were sleepy AND full, it’s as if God was tormenting you for shits and giggles. You blearily lift your head up to try and pay attention, it seems like Mr. Nash was still talking about the chapter of King Lear you were supposed to read, which you did. In your current state however you weren’t confident you could give a coherent answer if he asked you a question. Unfortunately you weren’t sitting in the back of the room and the likelihood of being called out was relatively high. >Try to remain inconspicuous (roll) >Just let it happen >Go to sleep >Write-in?

>Try to remain inconspicuous
Ugh, there’s no getting out of this. You sit up and start to pay attention to the lecture, which is actually surprisingly interesting. Shakespeare is typically pretty dry but Mr. Nash is actually describing it in vivid detail. Even more surprising is when the time comes for questions Mr. Nash actually picks someone else to answer. Wew You really dodged the bullet there. The rest of the lecture goes by pretty quickly, setting you up for the chapters you have to read for homework. When he’s done Mr. Nash reminds everyone about the quiz on Monday, which receives a chorus of groans and complaints. Then you’re free, you’ve only got one more class before you can go home and do absolutely nothing. Well You’ll probably hit the gym, or text Trish or something. Anyway you make your way towards the last class of the day, Spanish. Fuck you hated Señora Blanca’s class, the old bitch had it out for you. It’s not like you ever even acted up in her class, she’s probably just an asshole. You make your way into the class and get your notes and other shit out. This class was going to suck, having the worst class of the day at the end really blew. As class starts you get a dirty glare, for some fucking reason, from Mrs. Blanca and she starts rattling off some conversational Spanish. You’re suddenly very very tired, maaaan fuck this. >Willpower through it >Go to sleep >Write-in?

As hard as it is, you keep on trucking. You've fought off four faeries at once, you can’t be defeated by a mere Spanish lesson. It’s tough though, the Señora seems absolutely determined to make this class incredibly boring. Like, stupendously and outrageously dull, to the point where you’re almost tempted to use your powers to keep yourself awake. Thankfully you don’t have to take any drastic measures, and you manage to make it to the bell. Sweet, sweet fucking freedom You almost sprint back to your locker, you quickly exchange books and notebooks and make your way to your car. Surprisingly enough, no one bothers you this time, and you arrive at your Camry completely unmolested from people seeking a fight. The problem remains of what to do with the rest of the evening though.>Text Trish, see what’s up >Go to the gym, acquire gains >Go home >Write-in?

Going to the gym and texting Trish is go
Before you head out to the gym, you decide to text Trish for a bit. <<I’m heading to the Gym, wanna come with? [[Nah, I’m good. I’ve got some stuff to do at home. [[We can chill later if you want though. <<Alright sounds good to me. Text me later [[Will do captain my captain. You snort at Trish’s attempt at humor and start driving towards the gym. You’d been a member there for a few years, well, since freshman year. You couldn’t stand the people at who used your school’s gym so you had to go elsewhere. It wasn’t the best gym by any means, but the people were actually mature and kept to themselves, and the staff was nice. You park your car in the old lot and make your way to the changing rooms, gym bag slung over one shoulder. After changing into a fresh set of workout clothes, you begin your merciless routine. A few (hundred) pushups on the mat, followed by some pullups and stretching are always a great way to start. >It’s time to work that upper body >NEVER FORGET LEG DAY >Cardio seems nice >Write-in? >>45524776I have a general question about the setting. How does mundane humans deal with the supernatural world around them? I assume that mundane non-magic humans are by far the most numerous race out there, so how do they deal with shit like fairies and oni’s and whatever else is crawling about? You did mention that Amy hides her Oni form to avoid being ostracized or at worst, lynched. Does human have a strength? (Besides numbers?) Or is it more of a lack of crippling weaknesses (besides what kills us.)
>>45524907Well for fae I'd imagine you can get some cold iron bullets at your local gun store.
>>45524907Humans vastly out number the in-human species and peoples. Elves, Dwarves and Fae take an incredibly long time to mature and reproduce. Orcs breed pretty fast but they're the most similar to humans so they inter-breed fairly often. Gobbos are on the rise though. Humans can usually stand toe to toe with the non-humans because of their technology and magic. Human magic is incredibly diversified and potentially incredibly powerful.
Well the last time you were here it was upper-body day, so that means it’s MOTHER FUCKING LEG DAY! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj2vU2nr5JwYou get to work immediately with a few lunges, a forty pound dumbbell in either hand. After a few reps you move on to the leg press, putting as much weight as you can handle on the machine. Well, maybe a bit less than you can actually handle considering your max is way above human level. After that you have a small break while on the leg curl machine, then you get right back to work with some squats. Squats are probably the work out you’re the best at, you could bench a lot sure, but your official squat records are amazing. You decide to make it interesting and alternate between forward and reverse squats after each rep of fifty. Something is off though, Andre isn’t here. Which is odd, your usual workout spotter/partner is almost always here at this time, he’s pretty fanatical. Oh well, you’ll just have to call him out next time for skipping. You continue your leg work outs for a while, going through every machine and routine you can think of. The problem is you’re not tired, you’re barely even working up a sweat. Meh, you’ll just have to do some cardio. You go to one of the vacant elliptical machines and put it on the max weight. Then you go to the bike and set it to the most resistance, then the treadmill… Yep you’ve gone through every machine, and you’ve only been here for two and half hours. That was way too quick, but you’re running out of things to actually do for leg/cardio day. >You don’t want to over-exert, go home >Keep doing workouts till you’re actually tired >Write-in?
>>45525188>You don’t want to over-exert, go home

Looks like we're going home and texting Trish again.
Fuck this is boring, there’s no one here you know and you’ve gone through every routine. Time to pack it up. You quickly make for the front door, and after waving to the receptionist (you think her name is Stacy?) you make it back to your car. The drive home is pretty un-eventful, the traffic isn’t annoying for once. You get home fairly quickly, your dad’s car is out in the street, which means you have to park in the street as well so your mom can park. After dealing with parking shenanigans, you go through the back door and into the laundry room to deposit the clothes you wore to school. “Hey darlin’, welcome home.” Your dad calls from the living room. You almost see him sitting in his chair with a beer. "Hi dad, I’m gonna head out again soon, Trish and I are going to go do something.” You yell back as you move towards the stairs. “You’d better get back home before your mom does, she’s still pretty pissed at you for what happened to the yard last night.” “You aren’t mad too?” You ask hesitatingly. “I was for about five minutes before I realized I was just going to make you fix it this weekend.” He tells you with a laugh. You just groan and head up the stairs to your room. After depositing your school shit, you sit on the edge of your bed and text Trish again. <<Alright, I’m done working out. Wanna do something? [[Yeah, I don’t have anything else to do tonight. [[You have anything in mind? >What do you have in mind? (Write-in) >Let Trish decide

<< I learned how to do something cool last night, wanna see? [[ Sure, like I said I’ve got nothing else to do. [[ Wait, is this some sort of Oni bullshit? << Yup [[ Neat, so do you have anywhere in mind? << Do you know where any abandoned lots are? [[ Oh, this is going to be awesome. Cya in a few. You chuckle as you lay back on your comforter. You dick around on your phone some more, fucking flappy bird, before you hear Trish’s car honking in the street. You yell your goodbyes at dad before running to Trish’s car. “Ok, you’ve got to tell me what it is. I’m dying to know.” “You’ll see you’ll see.” You say in a sing-song voice. Trish just harrumphs at you as you climb into the big SUV. Surprisingly enough, Trish does know about a few vacant lots that would be useful to you. The trip to the outskirts of town is actually really quick, there’s not a lot of traffic, which is rather odd. The lot looks like a set from one of those shitty horror movies, complete with abandoned buildings. “Alright, so what is it? What can you do now?” Trish asks, trying to hide the excitement from her voice. >Show her the whole deal, full power >Try and limit it? >Write-in?

“Alright If I’m going to show you, you need to stand back. Last time I did it everything within twenty feet was blown away.” You tell your friend seriously. She just nods, pure excitement etched into her face as she starts walking back. When she gets about forty feet away, you decide to let it rip. You start by slowing your breathing, then you reach out to the energy coming from your body. When you feel it touch back you send it to your arms and torso. Then, just like last night, you slam your hands into your abdomen. What follows is a loud peal of thunder and jarring shockwave that throws the loose soil around you everywhere. (PP 2/5) Ha, you actually managed to control some of the power, it looks like it only went about ten feet this time. You turn to look at Trish who, despite being covered in dirt, looks like she’s having the best Christmas ever. Seriously, her eyes are brighter than fucking stars. “Amy that was….. SO FUCKING COOOL!!.” She says as she throws her arms up into the air. “I can’t believe it, I mean I know you’ve talked about magic before and I’ve seen your Oni form before, but this probably the coolest thing I've ever seen.” She finishes with a huge grin on her face. “Oi!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GOIN ON ABOUT UP THERE?” A huge booming voice seems to shout out of nowhere. Then you feel it, the ground beneath your feet is shaking. You lunge towards Trish and pull her away from the rapidly expanding dome of earth underneath the both of you. Just in time too, the dome explodes in a flurry of stone and sand. A huge figure pulls itself out of the ground, from its silhouette it has to be at least fourteen feet tall. The dust starts to clear, and then you see it. It was impossibly large, maybe three of you across, with absurdly long arms. Its hide was a dark brown, covered in thick leathery skin, with random lumps all over the place. Its legs were actually pretty stumpy, but its head was anything but. It was massive with two enormous yellow eyes, and a huge jutting nose. Its mouth seemed to hang underneath the snout, almost like a shark. Lank greasy hair hung down over its face, partially obscuring the giant teeth that seemed to jut out of the mouth. You know exactly what it is, a Troll. A fucking giant mountain Troll just hanging out underneath a random lot, God really did like messing with you. “WHICH ONE OF YOU LITTLE SHITS WAS MAKING THAT FUCKING RACKET?” the Troll asks in its deep, rumbling basso. “HERE I AM JUST TRYIN TO GET A FEW WINKS, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, BOOOOOOOOOM. >>45527974>Looks like we're being polite to the giant monster. When that inevitably fails, tell Trish to get in the car and back off. Don't want our friend to become collateral damage. Then we can have fun!
You do the first thing that comes to your mind, you immediately bow to the giant monster. “I’m so sorry, I had just learned how to do that and I wanted to test it out somewhere away from my neighborhood. I didn’t know you were living here, sorry sorry sorry.” You say incredibly quickly. Fuck this is bad, Trolls weren’t known for their good natures or their winning personalities. They were also incredibly easy to slight, you hope this one isn’t like that… The big guy just stares at you for a minute, so does Trish. She probably thought you were going to pick a fight. You may enjoy fighting, allegedly, but you’re not stupid. That thing was bigger than your Oni form, and without fire you didn’t have a real way to hurt him. The Troll just keeps staring at you for, scratching its nose with a huge clawed finger. Then it does something completely un-expected, it bows back. “Sorry for yell’n at you love, you just surprised me is all. Y’can’t go around makin a great hullaballoo everywhere like that, you never know who’s home you might be standing on.” He finishes winking at you. “Name’s Charles Stokesworth, w’as yours?” He asks expectantly. >Amy Nakamura >Uh……. >YOU’RE NOT GOING TO EAT US? >Write-in?
Looks like proper introductions are in order. Writing
“Amy Nakamura.” You reply, bowing again, slightly less deep than before. “Trisha Nguyen.” Trish says immediately after you, excitement was creeping back into her voice. “Well met.” Charles says grinning. “So I’ve got to ask, if it’s not improper, wha’ are you? I’ve never smelt anything like you before. You almost smell like an Ogre, but you ain’t one. It’s like someone took an Ogre and made them bathe in lightning before swimmin in magic. It’s botherin me quite a bit.” Wow, this isn’t how you planned for this night to go at all. Now you and Trish were having a polite conversation with a giant mountain Troll. Wait… What the hell is a mountain Troll doing in Houston? It’s at fucking sea level for Christ’s sake! Well you guess that question can wait till later, because now you have to deal with a Troll asking what you are. This is your life now, giant monsters asking what you are because Oni are apparently really rare? Is this even the real life anymore? Or is it just Fantasy? “My best friend and I are having a conversation with a giant Troll. This is my life now.” Trish says to herself, almost whispering. Judging by the giant smile on Charles’s face though, he heard every single word she said. Great
