I am Sief Atanor, heir of the Atanor family and the Golem Raziel. The past few days have slipped by in relative peace. My time is spent training with Paxton, and digging my way through the great mound of tomes on dragon cults, mining, and trade. The former at least continues to bear fruit, the longer I spend with my nose buried in books however, the more it feels like all I'm getting out of the experience is a headache.Lucus mostly keeps to himself, always sticking close to his golem as Virgil works on the repairs, though to my relief he's seeming a little less on edge these past few days. I doubt he's anywhere near recovered from his ordeal, or indeed will recover from it for a long time to come, but it's good to see him looking a little less intense.Tyra also spends most of her time in the hanger, pouring over all the notes and schematics still remaining on our property for Raziel's design, and over the materials gathered on my foray into the Iquani Expanse. I have no idea how she manages to stay so enthusiastic and well-rested despite spending what must be sixteen hours a day obsessing over my family's golem.I have yet to hear back from Thurston regarding many of the matters we discussed some days back, though he did stop by to inform me that a message was passed on to Kristopher Ornrey regarding a meeting about the trade route. While there is no specific set time for the meeting, it would probably be best not to annoy the merchant by delaying too much.(cont)
>>45395141I awaken to the sounds of my door being flung open with some haste, crashing against the wall behind, Tyra already fully dressed and wide awake beaming down at me as she dumps a pile of papers at the foot of my bed from under one arm, setting the lantern held in the other down on my bedside table. The long, frilly sleeves of her silk shirt are rolled back past the elbows, her long red hair tied back, as seems to be her habit when working on artifice. It's not even light out yet.“Morning Sief.”Whatever my intentions for my response, what comes out is a confused mumble.“I'm just about finished going over all the materials you've got, and I had a few ideas.”“Can't this wait until morning?” I groan, bringing a forearm up over my eyes to shield me from the lantern light she's brought with her.“There's light on the horizon, that means it's morning,” she grins, rifling through the pile of papers as she tries to assemble them into some inscrutable order.I peer out from beneath my forearm. If there's light on the horizon, it certainly isn't visible from my bedroom window. Is this the kind of deranged schedule they keep on the Foundry Isles?>You'll discuss this with her later, at civilized hours>Fine, you're already awake, may as well take a look

YESSSSS>>45395142>>Fine, you're already awake, may as well take a lookYou can't expect us not to choose to interact with artificefu, LordyPlus, sweet phat upgrades from our sweet phat loot
>>45395142>>Fine, you're already awake, may as well take a lookCan't be lazy like dad.So does Tyra have a golem? You said we'd find out later and judging that we time skipped it's later
>>45395334I think I already mentioned it, but if I didn't, then no, no golem.
>>45395334She's an artificer, not a golem knight, anon.
“Since you woke me up already, I suppose we can go through it now,” I frown, propping myself up against the head of the bed as Tyra grins, sitting herself down next to me with the pile of papers.“First of all, the two function components you found. The rectangular one with the geometric patterns and the crystal prism,” she nods, tossing aside a couple of the papers to retrieve another.“I can install those straight off if you want. There's limited space in Raziel, really limited, so you could only have those two, any more and you'll have to make some choices on what to install.”That's surprising. Usually Golems have a lot more space for function components, since it adds a lot to the flexibility of even older models. Obviously Tyra picks up on my thoughts as she continues.“There was space for more, but it looks like some other component's been put in there. I've got no idea what though, because it's all been sealed into position in a steel case. I might be able to crack it open a take a look, but that's going to be delicate work, and take a lot of time. I wouldn't want to damage something.”I glance down at the scribbled notes across the paper as Tyra continues to ramble on, her more detailed explanation of function compatibility going far over my head.(cont)
>>45395706“Anyway, that doesn't matter right now, since you only have the two of them. The green rectangular one is a muscle augmentation one. It doesn't work for long periods, at least not without chewing through all the power in your core, but it's good for explosive bursts. It's a bit too powerful though, so I wouldn't use it too often or it's likely to start putting some serious strain on the joints. The crystal prism is advanced temperature regulation. Not much use down here, but I guess if you're ever going up into the garou mountains or down south into the desert it might come in handy,” she smiles, shrugging.Neither sound like thrillingly unusual or exciting functions, but I can't really complain considering that they're decades old military surplus. So the question now is, install them or sell them?Explosive Power Function>Install>Sell>Keep in StorageTemperature Regulator Function>Install>Sell>Keep in Storage
>>45395713>InstallGood for an emergency>Keep in StorageWe won't need to buy one later and Tyra could probably upgrade it.
>>45395713>Install>InstallI don't want to sell them unless we have more, and there's no reason not to install them if we aren't selling them.Tell her about what other such things we saw where we found those two.
>>45395713>Install>Keep in StorageIf push comes to shove, uninstalling or selling can be done later. Besides, their age and origin probably makes them a lot less valuble, we'll get more use out of them by actually using them.
>>45395713>Install>Keep in storage
>>45395738>>45395812Why not install it now?
There's literally barely any benefit to not installing it now.The only scenario it would be useful in is if we took Tyra along on an adventure, found a better part that fits there, and she could install it right then and there, and we really needed what we found.
>>45395926I was hoping Tyra could tinker with it and make it better while we're adventuring
>>45395950If she could I'd like to think she'd have mentioned that.Or we could, you know, ask.
I miss Kajilapa
>>45396229We all do...
“Install the Explosive Power Function, please. The Temperature Regulation Function we can keep in storage for now,” I reply. No sense giving her extra work to do for nothing.“No problem Sief, and now that that's out of the way...” Tyra grins, setting aside a couple more sheets and spreading the remaining papers out across your lap.“We can get onto the really fun bit. The materials you found. I had some ideas I wanted to run by you.”I nod, after Virgil's lacklustre response to my gathering these materials, I was starting to worry they'd go to waste. It's nice to know they can be put to good use.“First up, the Basilisk Eyes and Wyvern Stinger. We could go for the easy, and kind of boring option. Extract the toxins, boil them down, treat them with some alchemical components and infuse them to some of your existing equipment.”I nod as she continues, wondering how much all these extras are going to cost.“We could add it to any of your melee weapons easily enough that way. The Warsword, the Impaler, the Gatebreaker or the War Axe. I suppose we could treat a collection of arrows that way too for the Greatbow, but that would lead to a limited supply of course.”“So what effect would this have on the weapons?”“Hmm, pretty much the same for either, it would envenom the weapon. It's... not going to be as potent as a more intensive alternative, but it's quick, dirty and cheap.”“I see, what else?”(cont)
>>45396446“Ah, well if you want something more entertaining, we could actually develop some new equipment using what you found. The wood from a Spriggan's tree is a fantastic conduit and amplifier for mana, use it as the haft of a weapon, and you could get some pretty potent effects if combined with the right other materials. It would need some work to get it ready though. The wood needs to be properly treated, inscribed, and most likely bound with some prepared strips of leather to both strengthen it and to help direct the power flow. You'd also probably want to hire on a holy man for a purification, considering the history of most Spriggan sacred trees, it could have more than a few lingering curses and angry spirits about it, which could play merry havoc with the finished product.”I frown, nodding. I do wonder if Tyra is entirely aware of the financial situation of the house at present. I could probably spring for some of these things, but it would be a challenge.“Alternatively, we could prepare some carved chunks of the wood to be slotted into place beneath Raziel's plating at set points, again, there'd be a lot of treating, inscribing and the like involved, and you'd definitely, definitely want that purification before adding it to Raziel that way. If we did that it could act as an added layer of warding against witchery.”Tyra pauses for breath, sweeping aside one of the sheets and pointing to the next.“Anyway, the basilisk eyes. They're kind of difficult to use, to be honest, but I did have a few thoughts. We could have them sealed in alchemically treated resin and linked up with inscribed circuits to allow for a sort of directed basilisk vision on demand. The power consumption would be massive, but...”“How much would enough alchemically treated resin to cover a basilisk eye cost?”“Abouuuut this much,” Tyra smiles, tapping a finger to a number at the bottom of the sheet.(cont)
>>45396460I'm pretty sure that would've been tough on the family to afford even before my father's spending emptied our coffers.“Are there any cheaper options?”“Hmm, well you could drain the fluid, crystallize it, and turn it into an arrow head or shell. Or a dagger too, though it would still only be single use before it shattered. Still, for that one use, you're looking at the target getting a full dosage of Basilisk venom, unlike the weaker version from treating a weapon with it. Probably fatal for most things.”“I see. What about the wyvern?”“Oh, well for that I was considering using the stinger for a spearhead. The tip's strong enough to punch through steel, and if we could get the necessary materials to inscribe and treat the interior of the stinger, we could even add some venom to it. It would be pretty handy against anything heavily armored, like golems, or jotun.”I nod as Tyra flicks to the next sheet.“Okay, that's about it, just got the breakdown of materials, time and such here. It's only an estimate mind you, so we could probably knock a bit off if we spend some time shopping around.”I think I'm going to have to make some decisions here, because the full set is well, well outside of what I can afford.>[You have 4 wealth available]Sacred Tree Wood (In the case of Axe and Spear hafts, the added functions to interact with the mana amplification will come later, and add further cost to the project)>Axe Haft (3 wealth)>Spear Haft (3 wealth)>Implanted Magic Shielding (3 wealth)>Other Ideas (write-in)>Keep in storage for nowBasilisk Eyes>Treat weapon (1 wealth)>Crystallized arrow heads (5) (2 wealth)>Crystallized shells (5) (2 wealth)>Crystallized dagger (1 wealth)>Other Ideas (write-in)>Keep in storage for nowWyvern Stinger>Treat weapon (1 wealth)>Spearhead (2 wealth)>Spearhead, envenomed (3 wealth)>Other Ideas (write-in)>Keep in storage for now

>>45396460>You'd also probably want to hire on a holy man for a purificationWell, we do want to have one for purifying the battlefield over on the Iquani lands eventually, so it might be good to hire one for both those things once the time comes.>>45396478>Sacred Tree Wood >>Keep in storage for nowYeah okay that shit is way outside of our price range right now.Didn't we bring back a staff or something, by the way?>Basilisk Eyes>>Keep in Storage for now>Wyvern Stinger>>Spearhead, envenomed (3 wealth)This is my temporary vote, now the time comes to think up more ideas.First of all, how many basilisk eyes do we have? Could we use just a single one of the basilisk eyes to treat weapons with the toxin, or turn into a dagger, maybe? So that we could have the option for that really cool basilisk vision thing later on, maybe.Secondly, ask if a warpick or something would be more fitting for one of these items' applications, or something else we didn't bring back from the mesa or the battlefield.Third, these things wouldn't sell for much, right? Also ask for her opinion on Lucus's golem.Fourth, ask how she's been adjusting to living here for now, we wouldn't want her being too uncomfortable, after all.And last but not least, ask her if there were any parts of the basilisk and wyvern more useful, so we know what to bring if we ever come in a position to butcher one of those again.
>>45396478>Keep in storage for now>Crystallized dagger (1 wealth)>Keep in storage for nowI'm pretty sure actually spending much of our wealth here is going to lead to shortages elsewhere and neither a spearhead nor a weapon shaft is much use on its own.Get the dagger, it's only a single use effect but it's basically an instant kill against a midboss to boss for the near future and unlike arrows or shells doesn't run the risk of missing and being spent to no effect whatsoever. Also, we have a single incredibly dangerous single gribbly to kill before we can get our moneymaking started so a one-use item with a lot of power behind it is actually pretty useful right now.
>>45396478What kind of things can we do with Wealth in the future? I'm assuming it's going to be necessary to do things like maintaining the land
>>45396629>Didn't we bring back a staff or something, by the way?You left the staff behind I believe. It's still out there at the mesa.>First of all, how many basilisk eyes do we have? Could we use just a single one of the basilisk eyes to treat weapons with the toxin, or turn into a dagger, maybe? >>45396478All of it in storage we can't really use any now. Best use our wealth to get more wealth. That road project will cost.
>>45396668Can you confirm >>45396648>I'm pretty sure actually spending much of our wealth here is going to lead to shortages elsewhere?
>>45396668Does the wealth cost of the wood applications include the hiring of a holy man?
>>45396666>>45396690Wealth is a rough estimate of Sief's disposable income. It can be used for new equipment, material costs, as well as for improving your lands and the like.Theoretically having 0 wealth isn't a problem, though if you had some unexpected issues which required you to pour some personal wealth into your land's upkeep it might cause some trouble. In general though wealth is to be spent on improvements and new equipment, not on upkeep.>>45396703Yeah.
>>45396675We won't be able to afford any better Basilisk Eye projects for a /long/ time, so we can kind of afford to get one of the ones offered here and given that we do have to the fucking Leshy before we can even start the road project, getting the dagger is actually an investment into the road.Without the dagger taking on the Leshy will be more difficult, likely lead to more losses and may even require involving more other Golem Knight all of whom want a share of the pie afterwards.
I'll be honest, I don't think we will ever use a spear, so I'm changing >>45396629 to storage for all.>>45396721Would the wyvern spear venom be one time, or "eternal"?>>45396729I don't know if the dagger would even hurt the Leshy, that thing is all sorts of bullshit iirc
>>45396729Just use the poison spear, the eyes are much more valuble together in a dedicated 1 hit kill weapon we can use on shit like giants and dragons, should we ever be unlucky enough to face such. I wouldn't waste them on a one shot weapon.
>>45396745The envenomed spear would be "eternal", you're effectively using advanced artifice in that case to cause the spear's venom to replenish itself.
>>45396745The Leshy is likely not goint to get oneshotted like many other things, but the dagger is still the most lethal thing we'd have access to by far so if that doesn't even hurt nothing we have would scratch it.
>>45396764>dragons, should we ever be unlucky enough to face such. Now really what're the odds of you ever encountering a dragon in this quest?
>>45396764Giants are scrub tier and dragons are "a dozen golem knights dies miserably before they even get close" tier. We're a long long long long time off from being anything approaching a threat to a dragon with or without the dagger. The Leshy is EXACTLY in the weightclass we currently want single use equipment for.
>>45396793Depends,how often do you run again?
>>45396745I mean if we can get 6 wealth without torpedoing our land development and other projects and envenomed spearhead and amplifying spear haft would be great against nearly anything.>>45396764Leshy>>>>>> GiantAnd we're fighting a dragon solo we are fuuuuuuuuucked. It's endgame us leading a fucking army tier.
>>45396809What's the matter anon, got something going on that's going to stop you from following this quest for the next thirty years?
>>45396768Would we even be able to use the spearhead without getting the shaft as well?Or would we have a zero cost standard shaft for it?If it's the second could we "upgrade" the shaft later on then?
>>45396829Would the wood options use all of the wood we have?I'm guessing we can't just go back to the tree to get more wood from it as well.
>>45396829I've a heart failure scheduled for 2024 due to being an overweight basement dwelling neckbeard.
>>45396745what we should do, when we have the cash, is make the wyvern spear, and use the spriggan wood. just for shits and giggles.
>>45396745Didn't we already use a spear when we killed the two giants in our woods?
>>45396847You could combine the sacred tree wood for a haft with the wyvern spearhead. If not, then yes, it's just assumed to be a standard issue spear haft which has no cost, which could later be replaced with a better one, sure.>>45396862Yeah, that'll be all your wood gone, and the tree started dying the moment you killed the Spriggan, so you won't be getting more from that one.
>>45396872Pretty sure thatd make a really good fuck you weapon against anything less than a leviathan.
I don't think combining the wyvern and wood is a good idea, I doubt wyvern venom is stronger than Basilisk venom and that thing took minutes to take out a giant.Probably the best option is to use the wyvern tail to envenom something, save the other two for later.>>45396911That's the dagger
>>45396872That's my plan eventually.
>>45396872I think the wyvern spear's venom would be too slow acting to really have the OOMP for a FUCKYOU weapon
Right now the final vote is for envenomed spearhead and putting the rest into storage.I'm going to give it ten more minutes since discussions are still ongoing, then start writing.

>>45396956Can the spearhead be envenomed later on?
>>45396947It wouldn't be a fuck you weapon so much as a very reliable, and fairly effective one.
>>45397012Not really, no. It needs to be prepared in specific way for that, which the lesser cost non-envenomed version would interfere with.
>>45396925I'm not saying envenom the wood, I'm saying use the envenomed wyvern spearhead. and use the spriggan wood for a spear haft. not right now though. later, when we have the money.
>>45397043I know qhat you're saying
“The envenomed wyvern spear sounds promising.”Tyra beams at that one, clapping her hands together.“Wonderful, how about the other materials?”“Those are going to have to go back into storage for the time being. The spear's about all I can afford right now.”Tyra winces, nodding. “Father mentioned you weren't doing so well here, but I hadn't realized it was so bad.”“It'll be alright, I'm sorting it out, it's just going to take some time,” I shrug, Tyra slapping a hand down on my shoulder.“That's the spirit, and don't you worry about a thing, I'll make sure the workshop's in perfect working order by the time you've got that extra gold to spend.”Speaking of which, I need to decide what to do about Tyra while I take my trip. If I'm going straight away, I could leave her behind to work on the spear. I'm sure Loren wouldn't mind the company, and Tyra should have no trouble looking after herself in my absence. “Thanks Tyra. I'm going to be heading north for a few days soon, so it's good to know things are in safe hands,” I smile, Tyra gathering up the papers back into one pile.“That's a shame, I've been so busy trying to sort out the workshop that we've barely had any time to catch up,” Tyra pouts, resting her hands on her knees with the papers stacked back up into some semblance of order.“I'm not going right this moment.”“Great, then you can spend some time catching up with your favorite cousin.”“I'm fairly certain your siblings wouldn't take kindly to that title.”“Anja hasn't seen you since she was a baby, and Steffan's getting all teenage on us, so he doesn't want to be anyone's favorite anything right now. Which means I get to be your favorite cousin whether you like it or not,” Tyra grins, waggling a finger in front of my nose.“Lucky me. Anyway, I'm sure we can spend some time together before I leave.”“Why not right now?”I frown, glancing down and back up to Tyra.“I would prefer if we saved that for after I'm dressed at least.”Tyra puts a hand to her lips, giving a very unconvincing look of shock which she can barely maintain for a moment before cracking a grin.“Please, it's nothing I haven't seen before.”“Perhaps so, though I was quite a lot younger at the time.”“Ah, yes, I suppose you have grown up a little,” she beams, eyes slipping downwards from my face to my bare chest.“Tyra, I am starting to fear for my safety,” I sigh, tugging the sheets up a little.(cont)
>>45399870“Goodness, was that a joke? You have grown,” Tyra beams, hopping up off the bed, gathering up her papers.I suppose I'm just used to dealing with Loren's little jabs. Still, I would rather Tyra gave me a little privacy, not least of which because being around her in this state is starting to become... uncomfortable.“Okay, okay, I'll leave you to it, just don't forget to come visit me later.”“Oh, on second thoughts, could you install the Temperature Regulator too? Can't be too careful with northern weather.”“No problem, no problem at all. Just got to crack the whip and get Virgil and his assistants actually working hard for once,” she huffs, flashing me a quick wink before scooping up her lantern and walking back to the door, closing it behind her a great deal softer than she opened it.With that done, I suppose I may as well get up. Loren has yet to lay my clothes out for me or anything of the sort, with this being a couple of hours earlier than I'm usually up and about, I'd wager, but I'm not so helpless that I can't handle such things on my own.I should probably leave soon, but today at least I have a little free time between making preparations. While I am thankful that my father has yet to return to his former overtly debauched lifestyle, his new sulking persona is in some ways far more worrying. I have tried to make time to stop by when I could to keep an eye on him, but he's been rather quiet and reclusive, very difficult to pin down.By the time my routine is done, finishing my run around the grounds to the background noise of Tyra hard at work in the workshop, I figure it's probably late enough in the morning to check in once more.A tap on the door at least provokes some sort of response, a mumbling, confused response perhaps, but some days it's all I can do to drag him out of bed. I hear a crash and some cursing as he staggers his way across, a bleary, squinting face greeting me as the door opens a crack.“Yeah?”“Thought I'd come see how you were today, since I didn't see you at dinner last night... or the night before.”My father groans, rubbing the back of his hand across his eyes for a few moments, trying to blink away the haze. I can smell wine on his breath, not as potent as it used to be perhaps, but he's certainly still drinking.“I'm fine, just not been sleeping well recently is all.”“You've barely been downstairs in days, you've barely said two words to Tyra. It would be good for people to see you, before rumors start that you've passed away or something equally troublesome.”“I said hello to her, didn't I?”“In passing.”My father sighs, scratching at his stubbly chin.“Fine, fine, I can tell you're going to make a nuisance of yourself until I do... something, so what do you want from me?”>Get yourself cleaned up and go for a ride about, check up on your lands, remind people you're still around>Coming down for dinner later would be a good start>I don't know, but at least get some fresh air for a while>Other (write-in)

Basically: Come set up shop on free land and then pay me tax's instead of making me pay to develop it.
“Coming down for dinner would be a good start.”My father nods, running a hand through his rather greasy hair.“You may want to bathe before that though.”“Yeah, I know, I'll see you then,” he grumbles, starting to let the door swing closed again. I hold a hand against it for a moment, my father's brow knotting in annoyance.“Also, I just thought you should know, I'll be taking a trip north soon on business, it should only last a few days.”“What sort of business do you even have?”“I suppose I could tell you about it over dinner,” I reply, giving him a nod as I turn and head away, leaving him to his own devices. While I still don't give it good odds of him turning up for dinner, there's only so much I can do. This is after all still his house and his lands, despite the fact that Thurston and I seem to be doing the majority of the work on it these days. Really I should be thankful that he's at least agreeable enough to go along with any of my hassling. With that predictably stressful encounter dealt with, I spend some time in my room going over some more of the great pile of books I gathered from the library while I wait for lunch. I have learned more than I ever wanted to know about dragon cults, that's for certain, and yet I feel as if I've still gathered very little of use. Still, reading about Orisian's deranged cultists is at least marginally less painful than pouring over another dry tome on trade tariffs, which continues to give me splitting headaches as I try to wrap my brain around all the finer details of it.(cont)
>>45402043Lunch comes around, and I stop in for a quick meal. Just with Lucus as it turns out, Tyra apparently being too engrossed in the final part of fitting the function components to join us.“Your cousin's... exuberant, isn't she?” Lucus smirks, idly poking at his food.“That's one way of putting it, yes.”“I was wondering if she'd be willing to take a look at Ose, when she's not working on your golem of course, maybe let me know if there are any upgrades I could get installed. I'd rather not replace him, but talking to her has made it very obvious how out of date my poor old golem's gotten during my years in the forest.”I glance up from my meal, studying Lucus' face. I can't help but wonder if this is a pretence, his eyes certainly seem to wander when my cousin is around, though that also seems to be the case with any pretty girl who passes him by.“I don't mind you asking her, but any upgrades are going to be costly, and I'm afraid my house is nowhere near affluent enough to foot the bill for that.”“True enough. I was thinking about earning my keep a little around here, maybe save up a little extra for those upgrades too. Perhaps mercenary work, is there much call for that these days?”There is, no denying that. The frontier has more than a few problems with giants, great beasts and low race savages blundering in out of the forest, and you've no doubt he'd find people willing to pay for an extra golem with a skilled pilot, no matter how old and rundown the design may be. Still, him straying off our lands brings with it some risk, no matter how slight, of someone recognizing him or Ose.>As long as he's careful, you have no problem with it>You'd really rather he not leave your lands right now

>>45402071>>As long as he's careful, you have no problem with itHe will always have a room waiting for him here, though maybe he should starts by doing patrols along the borders of our lands to build up his strenght back?
>>45402071>As long as he's careful, you have no problem with itJust, make sure he does not end up alone with our cousin. Leastways till we sort out his family troubles, would rather not get roped into that mess before we're good and ready by someone not being able to keep it in his pants.
>>45402125Can we maybe have Tyra just change his golem's appearance?
“There's plenty of call for mercenaries along the frontier. We may not be at war along this border any more, but there's more than enough trouble in the forest to keep hired swords in work,” I reply, nodding.“Good news there then, I'll take a look around, see what's on offer.”“There's always a room for you here. Just promise you'll be careful, I don't need to tell you how bad it would be for both of us if you got recognized.”“Thanks Sief, appreciate it, and don't you worry, I'll keep a low profile. It's a shame to do so, but perhaps your cousin could remove some of the more obvious marks of my house from Ose... temporarily.”“It might be worth disguising yourself as well. Besides, judging by some of the terrible novels the servants have left around the house, I'm guessing mysterious golem pilots are quite popular.”“It's good to know that some things haven't changed in my absence,” Lucus chuckles, setting down his fork. With lunch done, there's still plenty of hours left in the day, enough time to do something else at least. I did promise to spend some time with Tyra, but I don't know how busy she still is with Raziel, and I will see her at dinner either way. That might be enough, or it might not, hard to say.>Go spend time with Tyra>Do some extra sparring with Paxton>Go try and finish off those books before you leave>Other (write-in)

Considering all the trouble Tyra took to come here, it would hardly be fair of me to take her for granted. Besides which, exhausting though my cousin's enthusiasm can be, I certainly wouldn't say that I dislike her company.I arrive at the workshop just in time to see Tyra overseeing Raziel's back plates being fixed back into place, the components now fully installed. She grins as she spots me, hopping down from her stepladder.“All done, the components are installed, and I gave him some pretty thorough maintenance too. Left elbow was sticking just a little and some of the internal inscriptions were starting to fray a little, so power response was a sixteenth of a second slow on the right hand side. Hammered out a few of the dents too, so I think he's looking downright handsome,” Tyra explains, taking hold of my arm and leading me on a quick circuit around Raziel.I can't disagree with that, he's looking near good as new despite the rough treatment he went through on my trip to the Expanse. It seems Tyra certainly has inherited her family's knack for artifice.>[Explosive Power Function added]>[Temperature Regulation Function added]>[Well Maintained: +10% to rolls. >>45404404“Impessive,” I nod, walking up close to run a hand over the plating. Looks like she's even smoothed out some of the chips.“It was no big deal,” she smiles, leaning in close, resting a hand on my shoulder for support as she stands on tiptoes to reach my ear.“Truth be told, Virgil's maintenance was lousy, you should be glad I came along before there were any major malfunctions,” she whispers, breath tickling your ear.I've always been aware that Virgil wasn't the most talented of artificers, but beggers can't be choosers. Even before my father's descent to his present condition it was difficult to hold onto artificers once my mother was gone. Most of them were only there for the privilege of working with her after all, they could certainly have done a lot better than working for some minor frontier lord otherwise.“Anyway, looks like I'm all done for now, though I might get started on that spear this evening, or at least draw up some solid plans for it,” Tyra continues, tapping a finger to her chin as she steps over to the workbench, shuffling through a chaotic mass of a papers.“Well then, if you're free, what say we spend some time together?”“Ah, you remembered, how sweet of you.”Looks like I made the right choice there then, judging by her somewhat broader than usual grin.>It's a nice day, might as well sit out on the grounds and catch up>There isn't a great deal to see, but you could always show her Venser>Other (write-in)

>>45404978You mean "just to be completely honest with all of them", surely.
With it being a bright day, I figure there's no reason not to sit out on the grounds and catch up. I really don't know much about what Tyra's side of the family has been doing these past years, and while I'm less eager to talk much about my house's recent history, I suspect Tyra would like to know all the same.“It's been so long since I was out in the grounds with you... when was that, eight, ten years now?” Tyra asks, linking arms with me as we wander across my family's land towards a comfortable shaded spot on the north of the grounds.“Just like the old days. Though with less of you tackling me into things now, I hope.”“I think it might look rather less innocent if I were to tackle you into the bushes these days,” Tyra chuckles, fingers to her lips.“It wasn't innocent then, I was picking twigs out of my hair for a week,” I grumble, though that only succeeds in making Tyra laugh all the louder.“Well, you needn't worry about that these days. I'm a proper lady now.”“I'm guessing Aunt Bethany had something to do with that.”“You're guessing correctly,” Tyra smiles, as we come to a stop at the spot, Tyra releasing my arm to sit herself down in the shade of a tree as I seat myself next to her.She clears her throat, putting on a stern expression as I settle into place. “I don't care how many hours you want to spend in the workshop, no daughter of mine is going to grow up without learning how to comport herself in proper society.”It's a frighteningly accurate impression of Bethany, that's for certain, from what I remember of her. Right down to the little indignant twitch of the nose.(cont)
>>45406417“I suppose I should thank her then, for you not assaulting me so far on your visit.”“So far,” Tyra repeats, grinning.“How are things over there anyway?”“Same as ever, father's still butting heads with just about anyone, mother's still terrorizing the servants, and... well, things are the same as ever for me, really.”I nod. It's hardly a detailed response.“You still haven't told me why you came all this way.”“Oh, you know, reasons.”I sigh, glancing over at Tyra as she hugs her knees close to rest her chin atop them, gazing out across the grounds.“Which you aren't going to share with me, I take it.”“Isn't it enough that coming to visit my favorite cousin was one of them?”“I suppose I can't complain about that,” I smile, joining her in looking out across the grounds in silence for a while.“Hey Sief.”“Hmm?”“You're not going to do anything foolish, are you?”“I wasn't planning to,” I frown, not entirely sure where this sharp change in topics is coming from.“You just seem more... driven, these days.”“I would imagine most people are more driven at my age than they were at ten. Besides, isn't that a good thing?” I ask, looking over at Tyra, who keeps her eyes fixed on the horizon.“I wonder. Well, I'm sure you know best, and if you don't, you can always rely on your dear cousin's boundless wisdom,” Tyra responds after a length silence, cracking a grin once more.“What a terrifying prospect.”Tyra smiles once more, shifting a little closer to rest her shoulder against mine as we look out across the forest, settling into a more comfortable silence.>End of Thread
