The world falls apart in pixels all around you. A rush of pure panic replaces happiness as your arms shoot out for the woman you just moments ago held in your arms. She still smiles at you, even now when she fades from existence. The last thing you see is a bright light, and a sharp pain explodes in your temple before you wake up."Mr. Walker." A male voice nearby calls out for you. Your eyelids are forcibly opened and another bright light almost blinds you for a second. It takes a moment for you to reluctantly open your eyes on your own and adjust to the hospital room. You soon regain your bearings; the same bed, the same chair, and the same white-coated man sitting in it, but the woman in a suit standing by the exit is new."Mr. Walker, do you know why you were pulled out?" The doctor asks you slowly. You sigh, and your gaze falls to the floor as you sit up. Back to reality."I forgot myself." You repeat the same words spoken so many times before. Your memory is hazy from all the simulation runs, but you still sort of remember that you've been here for about a month now, even if you've spent close to a year's worth of time in the simulations."Correct, and would you be so kind as to explain why you forgot yourself again, Mr. Walker?"Your eyes finally meet when you raise your gaze from the floor.>"I became someone I'm not.">"I acquired something I cannot have.">"I don't know."

>>45313053>>"I don't know."
>>45313053>I dont know
>>45313286"I don't know." Your words echo hollow and is met with a disappointing sigh from the man. The woman by the door finally breaks the silence."Not the brightest tool in the shed." You throw a glance over at her and she's glaring daggers into you. Within the span of seconds, you break the eye contact and stare down at the sterilized floor. She looks like she is in her early 40's, glasses with brimstone colored frames, black tidy hair kept in a bun behind her egg-shaped head. This recent habit of yours is starting to take a toll on your mind. The doctors claim it's a side-effect from over-exposure to the Simulation, but you wouldn't know much about that. All you know is that you focus too much on details. The devil is in the details as your catholic aunt used to tell you every time she came over to your parents house before she took her life. Her daughter's boyfriend raped her and she was ashamed when it got out.You digress from the situation at hand. The woman have been speaking with you all this time."... Do you understand, Mr. Walker? If you do, nod if you accept." The woman removes her glasses and stares at you with a stern gaze. Silence falls over the hospital room once more.>Nod>"Um, can you repeat that?">Shake your head

>>45313719"Um, can you repeat that?" The words come out clumsily, but their intent is of another nature than basic stupidity. This time the woman sighs and approaches the bed, never once taking her eyes off of you. You now notice that her facial frame is almost that of an owl, yet still very human. You blink and shake your head at the image of strangling an owl that popped up in your head. You've refrained from mentioning the violent and graphic visions that has since a week back been starting to randomly cross your mind. "Are you sure he's the only candidate that's qualified for this?", The woman asks out loud, ignoring your question. Her question is not for you, and you know it."He's the only one who has lasted this far. If you want to keep the schedule the Chairman gave you, he's our only option. They will have our heads if we wait another week for a new sample of test subjects and then another month to see their results." The man in the chair replies heavily."Now or never, huh?" She muses to herself, inspecting your thin, half-naked body, your hollow eyes and bald head. Her eyes stop at the tubes coming out from the back of your head and back. She shudders for a split-second. Only you catch wind of it while the doctor is busy adjusting the machine nearby, still waiting for the woman's decision."Mr. Walker, you willingly signed up for this program back in August. On the 11th, if I'm not mistaken. Correct?"Has it really been that long? Or that short? You need to focus on answering her questions and stay calm."Correct." you mutter."And according to my reports, you've spent 354 days in the Simulation. Over this time, you've 'forgotten' yourself 12 times, yet you've never succumbed to any mental damages nor insanity. Correct?"(1/2)
>>45313881"Yes." You want to guess where she's going with this, but you know you'll just digress if you do."Due to your, 'experience' and mental state, we're prepared to let you pass onto the next stage of the program; you'll be given goals inside the Simulation to complete. In time, you'll be grouped up with new subjects in the same Simulation as well. They will be unaware of your identity as a subject, but you'll be tasked with missions that includes them as well. Do you accept these terms? If you do not, your contract will be terminated, you'll receive the pay promised to you and you're free to leave.">Accept>Decline >Ask her something (What?)(2/2)

He refrains from saying a word though."I'm not entitled to inform you of that, Mr. Walker. Rest assured that your psychological well-being is our top-priority if you choose to proceed onto the next stage of the program. This is a choice you must make on your own.So many things are swirling around your head once the woman has said her piece. You feel like throwing up one second and the next one you want an ice cream. Your vision shifts between clear and blurry. You probably look like a fool when you continue to narrow your eyes at her every few seconds or so. Where are you? Who are these people? Where's Betty? You start to feel uneasy before remembering where you are in a flash. On one end you just want back into the soothing embrace of the Simulation, but on the other hand it might be better to get the fuck away from it. A choice must be made.>Accept>Decline

2 or no.
>>45314391Looking back at that moment, you have no fleeting regrets. Maybe you would have found what you wanted in that Simulation, maybe you would have gone insane, or maybe it was always meant to be like this. You had a family, friends, love before the program, but you didn't have the money to sustain yourself in a capitalistic world like this.Pipe's clean. In time you would have lost everything. 4 months have passed since your contract was terminated. That's how long you held out, despite having the money to go on further. You've lost the trust of your family, the love of your life left you, and your friends spit at you when they see you. One round in the chamber.A home is not four walls and a roof. It's a family. A wife and one-to-three kids. You had dreams, even if you were unaware of them. With no contact with the Simulation for months before you were ready, your strange habits got the best of you and eventually you succumbed to moments of insanity that you cannot for the life of you recollect.Finger on the trigger. You had a good run. Maybe that's all that matters in the grand scope of things. Hopefully hell doesn't exist, but the owl perched upon the open door to your kitchen has told you otherwise. Maybe you'll prove him wrong.---"William Walker, a 24 year old Caucasian man was found dead in his apartment down in Brooklyn earlier this morning. The police suspects suicide, but won't rule out anything just yet. More on this at the eight o'clock news tonight. Now, onto the weather. You all fucked up.
