Your name is Amy Nakamura, a 17 year old void Oni, and you’re having a conversation with your Grandfather. Specifically about Oni binding. What he told you is starting to piss you off. Why the fuck do you have to be bound to “reach your maximum potential faster”? What a load of shit, stupid Oni blood, stupid Kami for making you have to deal with this shit. Trish is just staring at you as you go through a whole bunch of different emotions at once, Grandfather on the other hand has resumed his innocent old man act and is smiling at you. You calm down and count to ten. “Thank you for sharing Grandfather,” You say while touching the spot on your neck where that damnable chain was “We would’ve been lost without your help.” Grandfather just smiles wider at you, and then winks at Trish. “I can tell when you’re lying, Saiai.” He responds, using his nickname for you. “I know I wasn’t of much help but maybe I can do something more. I can tell you where the person who I learned this from lives, it’s the least I could do to help you learn and come to terms with yourself.” >W-we’re not talking about ME! This was for a friend >That would be amazing, thanks Grandfather >Bow >No thank you>Write-in?

You let him out of the hug gently, then stand up straight and bow formally for him. “I mean it when I say it. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.” You tell him as he keeps smiling. “That was really touching, now can we get the address?” Trish says, slightly ruining the moment. Grandfather doesn’t seem to mind though, as soon as he’s done laughing at your friend’s comment he takes out a pen and a small piece of paper and writes the address down. Which Trish immediately puts into her phone. You and Grandfather spend a few more minutes catching up, Trish keeps telling horrible jokes which your Grandfather still laughs at. “Grandfather, who is this person anyway?” You ask after a lull in the conversation. “He’s a respectable man who is trained in many of the ancient ways of our ancestral home. He can also drink me under the rug.” Your Grandfather says laughing at his own joke. “He’ll be able to help you Saiai, don’t worry. Just remember not to lose your temper or act rude while you’re there. Now go on, leave an old man to his rest, you’re young and still have so many things left to do.” He says shooing you off, you and Trish thank him one more time and go back to the parking lot. “This has certainly been a productive day.” Trish says fishing her keys out of her pocket. “Now I know you’re pretty eager to go and meet this guy, but it’s getting late and I still have to drop you off back home.” Trish sighs as you both pile into the Suburban. Ah, you know what game she’s playing. She’s trying to get back at you for making her drive, even though you can tell she still wants to go with you. “Alright alright,” You say in a patronizing tone “But if you take me home now I could just go and see this guy now. Who says you have to come with me the next time?” You tell her. Trish simply shrugs.“I could care less about your mysterious heritage.” She says, unconvincingly. “If you want to take advantage of my generosity you’re going to have to sweeten the deal.” You just snort at your tiny friend’s scheme. “Alright, I’ll pay for your gas today. That good enough to appease you oh great and generous Trisha?” You ask, with an obviously fake appeasing tone. “That’ll do quite nicely, thank you for properly acknowledging my generosity.” She retorts with an imperious tone, playing along with you. You smirk, she’s played right into your hands. “I’ll have to repay it further I’m afraid. After looking at you driving I can’t help but feel ashamed. You struggle so hard to see over the wheel, and I’m just making it worse by prolonging your suffering.” She responds by taking a hand off the wheel and punching you in the shoulder fairly hard, for her. You can’t help it, you start laughing as her tiny fist continues to rain mighty blows on your arm. --- The drive takes a little while, it was pretty far away from your Grandfather’s home and Houston traffic wasn’t making it quicker. You can’t say that you’ve been to this side of town often. It’s pretty shady, and most of the neighborhoods seem to split up between Mexican and Black gangs. You keep a wary eye out for any Titania’s Silence tags, they don’t typically work in neighborhoods like this but you don’t want to unknowingly walk into their territory. Trish pulls up to an old looking road that extends into an old fashioned driveway, the kind that start like a mile away from the house. As you get out of the car, a posse of Mexican gang bangers walk by. The leader, clear from his posturing, takes a look at you and Trish and laughs.
>>45308001“Look at what we’ve got here, a giant and her pet midget.” His group laughs at his shitty joke as he moves closer. “Man she really is a giant, look at those arms. You come to put out for all the boys?” He asks, looking at you in the eyes and tugging at his crotch. You can tell Trish is pissed, she’s stuck her hands in her hoody and is glaring at the guy. As good as it would feel to knock these guys into next week, you really don’t have the time to waste on them. You grab Trish’s shoulder and start pulling her back. She looks up at you and nods, as you start to walk away the leader starts to yell at you. “Look at this puta, walking away like a scared little dog. She’s not even that hot, and that little girl she’s got with her is fucking ugly.” With his parting jabs thrown, the boss and his cronies start to walk away. You look at Trish whose arms are starting to tremble with anger. “It’s fine Trish, those guys were just a bunch of assholes, who cares what they think?” “I know I know.” She says calming down and waving your concern away. “I just wish I had gotten that leader’s name so I could link a Trojan Virus to his computer or phone.” She says smiling a little as she plots her revenge. You just shake your head and laugh. The driveway is pretty long, maybe a couple hundred feet? The trees started to thin out about halfway down the dirt path, a little further and they were replaced by weird metal….. Things. You guess someone would call it art? Trish seems to appreciate it at least, she’s stopped to take a picture of one. The dirt driveway starts to widen out, and drops you right into what looks like a scrapyard. Twisted and rusted metal is laying around everywhere in huge piles, and in the distance you can see what looks like a blowtorch flickering. Trish glances up at you and shrugs, and you both start walking towards the light.
>>45308900It turns out you were right, the light is a blow torch and it’s being held by an enormous man hanging out under some sort of ramshackle roof. Oh that’s right, she wouldn’t know what a traditional Oni greeting sounds like. Not like you really knew either, it was just instinct, although it felt…. Right. Meanwhile the large man has also been staring at you, not in shock though. He’s wearing a huge grin that threatens to split his face in two.“It’s been a while since I’ve met another Oni, tell me little sister, the fuck you doing on my land? If you’re offering to spread your cunt for me you’ll have to wait. I have other things that need my attention first, your pussy can wait a bit.” He says waiting for your reaction. “I’m not here to snap off your tiny dick asshole. Takahiro Sugiyama said that you could help me learn something, although I’m starting to doubt it after seeing your ugly face.” You respond with a grin. After hearing your grandfather’s name his eyes get more serious, although the huge grin stays on his face. “So you must be what his bitch gave birth to? I knew this day would come eventually, but what I didn’t know was that his granddaughter would be such a sow.” At this point Trish is just looking at you two like you’re insane. >What’s your name >So why did my Grandfather tell me you could help > What are you making? >Write-in? “So why did my grandfather tell me a pig fucking faggot could help me out?” You ask him, your tone making it clear that you’re being serious. The large man just sighs and starts removing his welding gear. After completely removing his mask, he looks at you with a curious expression. “Because despite looking like something a monkey shit out, your Grandfather is a smart man. I’m the last Kami forsaken Oni in this part of the state, well at least until you ruined your mother’s twat by being born.” He sighs again, and motions for you to follow him. You and Trish share a look before following the giant’s lumbering gait. After he notices you following him a small grin returns to his face. “You’ve probably have a lot of fucking questions that need answering. We’ll have a drink together and then you can tell me you and your friend’s names. “So what’s the deal with those spic gangster wannabes who hang out around your driveway?” You ask as you follow him into the house. It turns out you were right, his house is cozy. Most of the furniture looks handmade and there are several beautiful paintings on the walls. “They aren’t really anyone, just small time beaner gang I can’t be assed to deal with.” He says nonchalantly. “They’d last maybe ten seconds, it wouldn’t even be fun.” You and Trish nod as he leads you to a small sitting area with a few comfortable looking chairs. He motions for you to sit, and you both sit down on the overstuffed loveseat. While he takes a seat in the large recliner. “So ladies, what your names? Not that it actually matters, but my wife would kill me if she thought I was impolite.” He asks, surprisingly leaving out the vulgar language you two had been indulging in. “I’m Amy Nakamura.” You say inclining your head slightly. “Trish Nguyen.” Trish says, replicating your slight bow. “I take it you don’t care that she’s about to learn about Oni?” He asks you motioning at Trish. “I’ve been her friend since we were kids, anything you tell Amy you can trust me with.” Trish answers for you, with a very serious expression. The big man nods once at Trish and starts stroking his beard. “Thank you for telling me your names, mine’s Kondo. Hotaka Kondo.” He tells you, looking both of you in the eyes. “Now I’ve got two important questions to ask you, the first is what do you want to learn about yourself, and the second is what do you want to drink?” He finishes, his smile starting to return. >What do you want to ask him about Oni/yourself >Ask him a question about himself first (What) >Write-in?

“I’ll take sake, it’s rude to refuse alcohol when someone offers.” You tell Kondo, and he Nods approvingly. “It looks like someone actually did teach you manners. What about you?” He asks Trish with a raised brow. “Water or tea, I can’t have any alcohol, I have to drive us home.” Trish answers the large man. He chuckles at her answer, apparently finding something funny with what she said. “I can get out a bottle of sake and put the kettle on, you two make yourselves comfortable. Think about what you want to ask me.” He says as he gets up and moves into what you presume to be the kitchen. You turn to Trish who’s screwing up her face in thought. “You have to ask him about the bond, that seems to be the most pressing question.” She says "Yeah I was going to, you think I should ask him about the other Oni out there?” Trish shrugs at your question. “That’s probably a good one to ask too.” She concludes, nodding to herself. A few minutes later Kondo comes back with a mug of tea and a medium sized sake bottle with two cups. He hands the tea to Trish first then pours sake into both cups. “Alright lay those questions on me, but first, kanpai.” He says as he raises his cup to you. “Kanpai.” You and Trish echo back, then all three of you take a drink. Shit that sake’s strong. “Okay,” You say coughing a little “What’s the deal with the Oni bond? Why is it such a big deal?” You ask as he lets out a loud “Ah”. (cont)

As the people who were worthy of our devotion died out so did we. The powerful and proud Oni, reduced to sniveling cowards and wastrels.” He says bitterly. “The majority of us didn’t have will to live on, without a purpose we were lost. Some of us found something to live for though.” He finishes, smiling a little as he plays with the ring on his left hand. “Can someone be forcibly bound?” You ask as your fingers creep to your neck. “No, no Oni should be able to be forced into a bond after birth.” He says giving you a curious look. “I was, someone managed to bind me without my permission. He let me go afterwards, but what if it happens again? Is there a way to prevent it?” You ask with a mixture of nervousness and eagerness. He steeples his fingers and looks into a space for a moment. You begin with hearing the strange sounds in the woods then move on to the fight with the fae explaining everything you thought could be of importance. You mention the magicked chain and the faerie leader’s strange black gloves. For his part Kondo doesn’t react to much of what you’re telling him. He just keeps stroking his beard, until you get to the part about the chain stopping from strangling you when Dan touched it. His eyes light up. “Did you smell or taste any magic from the boy?” He asks gravely. “No, when I peered through the void I could only see faerie magic, he looked completely ordinary.” “Did you have the void up the entire time?” “No, I stopped after I identified the charm on the chain.” Kondo nods sagely, and then stops stroking his beard. “I’m not sure what this was,” He starts “But I have a few theories. The first is that you mis-identified the magic used on you, which is doubtful. The second is that the Fae’s gloves might have interfered somehow with the magic on the chain. You did say it was witch make, their magic is shady at the best of times. The third is far more serious, the boy lied to you. He could’ve been a human magic user of some kind and forced you into some sort of obedience spell that managed to activate the Bond. But that’s probably even shakier than the first theory, you would’ve felt him use magic.” He pauses and looks at the both of you, a little bit of worry in his eyes. “I may have just found a fourth theory, the boy could be unknowingly possessed by something of great power. Or maybe that chain he used is, objects can be possessed by forces the same as people.” >What do you ask?

>>45313616>What do you ask? This >>45313696 with emphasis on how to prevent being bound. Spells? Being already bound? Anything?
>>45313616What kinds of things could be powerful enough to force a bond, aside from high-level Zen Buddhist priests, powerful Shinto shamans, and someone from the Imperial bloodline?
>>45313616Is it possible to hold two bonds at once? Are there any adverse effects to flaking on bonds multiple times?
>>45313959To elaborate, I'm wondering if it would be possible to bond to someone we trust in advance to head off forced bonds in the future, and if it would have any consequences if we bond and unbond as convenient.
“Is there any way to avoid being bound, or something to prevent it?” You ask taking another sip of sake. “Normally you wouldn’t have to avoid it, but this is a special case. The easiest way is to find someone you trust to bind you. Swear yourself to them and no one would be able to influence you or pervert it. After all, as long as our master lives, we cannot be bound to another. Another easy way to avoid it is to keep yourself away from objects that can wrap around your person, however it would have to be something the person who forcefully bound you owned. Their property, something more than random string they picked up from the dollar store. That should be more than enough caution.” “CAN someone be bound to two people?” He just snorts at your question. “We were made to serve one person, at least until their death. We didn’t have to worry about that until we started being bound by mortals.” He says, a bit of sadness creeping into his voice. “Is there anything that you know of that can force or mimic the bond? Like a monk or a Shinto priest?” “Powerful Kami and similar beings could make you think you were bound to them, as long as you weren’t already bound to another person. Monks and priests have little sway over us, although their charms can repel our magicks and disguises.” He says as he pours you another cup. You nurse it for a while this time, the burning down your throat was starting to feel comforting. Unexpectedly Trish asks the next question. “What could be powerful to force the bond and possess a human?” She asks looking at Kondo expectantly. He just shakes his head, looking graver then before. “If we were in Japan I’d say a Kami spirit or a youkai. In the west there are only a few things that could. A wizard or sorcerer could have is mind under complete thralldom. The chain could be possessed by a malignant spirit or ghost. Or…..” He says, leaving the comment hanging. “A Demon.”
And that's it, thanks to everyone for showing up and participating. I would go longer but I'm exhausted. The next thread should be Friday. My twitter and the quest archive are in the second post of the thread. I'll be sticking around as long as I can to answer questions, listen to criticism and just shoot the shit. I hope you guys have a great night.
>>45314320Thanks for the quest SZ, looking forward to the next installment!
>>45314320Thanks for running. So bonding to Trish for protection and gains? Also what conditions, precisely, does something need to meet to count as cold iron? Pure iron with no impurities? Would a coating to prevent rust buildup make it ineffective due to the thin layer of not-iron?
>>45314383Thanks for coming anon >>45314388Cold Iron is just a play on words, as long as it's iron it'll hurt fae. Rust may dampen the damage somewhat, while turning the Iron into steel also takes away most of the damage, although it would still sting like hell.
>>45314429So how much extra damage are we talking? Would an oni-forged iron tetsubo (or other similarly large and heavy weapon) turn them into clouds of pixie dust?
>>45314320Thanks for running
>>45314453If it was pure iron, which is pretty shit for making weapons, it would basically burn them alive. Steel would hurt A LOT, but it wouldn't burn them, or poison them.
>>45314460Thanks for playing anon
>>45314429How easy would it be to make an iron chain and how durable/long-lasting would said chain be? Could we learn Oni-forging techniques from Kondo?
>>45314473So, we basically need to find a lot of small asteroids and to tinker pneumominigun to destroy fairies gang?
>>45314518>Could we learn Oni-forging techniques from Kondo?Shhhhhhhh
>>45314320Thanks for running, StrikeZone.
Also, is the blood poisonous for fairies?
>>45314473>which is pretty shit for making weaponsIt's about as good as steel for weapons reliant on brute force and weight more than keeping an edge, IIRC. Might actually have been better, can't recall their relative density.
>>45314519>pneumominigunI'm not sure what that is >>45314539Thanks for coming/playing anon
>>45314538I'll take that as a yes. Being a blacksmith could be a pretty cool thing to add into whatever college education Amy would be going for (maybe she could go into mechanical engineering or the like).
>>45314552Depends on the steel actually, different steel mixes have slightly different densities.
>>45314552I'm fairly certain that steel is somewhat less dense, I could be wrong though. Iron is just much more brittle than steel. >>45314546Whose blood?
>>45314571I hope we get that far
>>45314570>I'm not sure what that isMainly a lead pipe connected to a gas tank. Pressure of air propels rock or potatoes. For badass look we weld together six pipes
>>45314597Steel is better, but Iron isn't as bad as you're making it out to be.Wouldn't it be possible to minimize some of the disadvantages by enchanting an Iron weapon anyway?
>>45314622Ah, that would be cool
>>45314597Not that much more brittle, it's still extremely hard. A tetsubo would essentially be a giant log of solid iron, extremely hard to bust. Also, the hypothetical was oni-forged, which probably lends it some supernatural durability.
>>45314636I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to weapons, so I'd have to get back to you. As far as enchanting it goes, it would make it better, but everything that works on iron works on steel better.
>>45314597It doesn't really matter. Animal blood has got iron in it, to transport oxygen. Spineless creatures have got copper instead of iron. So bugs blood is greenish-blue, most red.
>>45314666>which probably lends it some supernatural durability.Immensely, but you could make almost anything you want. Why limit yourself to a weapon that only really good against fae? Not saying you can't, mind you, just playing devil's advocate.
>>45314703Ah, no. It might sting a bit, but it would be too diluted to be super harmful. There are several faeries that consume human blood after all.
>>45314709Because I don't think making it out of steel will make a big difference to it's capabilities against non-fae if we're talking about a tetsubo or similar heavy bludgeon, and it would be super effective against the most likely group to be antagonists met thus far. Also, I'm just paranoid about fae in general.
>>45314786Around fae watch yourself
>>45314786>>45314819Well, we are living in a supernatural world, so having a weapon that's really good against a supernatural creature and just average against everything else is probably a safe bet, especially since we already might have pissed off some Fae.Might also be a good idea to wear some silver rings in case we need to punch out a werewolf.
>>45306249>Alice with maxed out statsDIE FOR ME incoming, poor Oni.
>>45314840As far as werewolves go, you'd have to pierce their skin. Silver would irritate them on the outer layer, and burn like hot coals on the inside.
>>45314891Knuckle dusters with silvered spikes?
>>45314909Might as well make it a silver dagger shaped like a cross so it takes out vampires as well.
>>45314926I don't feel like a dagger could take advantage of our physique as much as knuckle dusters.
>>45314909>>45314926>>45314981You guys really want to turn Amy into Blade, don't you?
>>45315142Oni love fighting, Amy isn't exactly a scholastic overachiever, and we even have a hacker buddy. We could be the Punisher.
>>45315475That image you just gave me is making me laugh my sides off. Thanks anon I needed that.
>>45314732>Fae that drink blood do it because it's the Fae equivalent of chili
>>45314320I enjoyed this episode. Hope to see you for the next MK thread.
