You are a Construct, an autonomous creature built from steel, and given life by ancient magic and modern ingenuity. Unlike most, you have mistakenly achieved sentience, and have received civil rights. You are also a detective with the city police. You come out of low-power mode right at the usual time. The sun doesn't manage to reach your studio apartment this morning, and in fact it looks to be ready to rain any minute judging by the color of the light that does reach your room. As you unplug yourself from your power station, you hear your phone go off across the room. You set the charging cable in its cradle and move over to check. According to the local station, it should be cloudy all day, but not a drop of rain. Also, Russo, your new partner fresh out of University, says good morning. She includes one of the tiny emotion pictures that humans are so fond of, in this case a smile. >Dress for rain>Dress normallyPrevious Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/44733710/QM: https://twitter.com/Rags2Riches_QM

You grab your things from the table beside the door as you exit your dim apartment. As you wait beside the bus stop, there is a roar of thunder, and a shower of rain begins falling. The few people waiting with you begin groaning and complaining, as none of them thought to question the weather report. One of them even looks at your dry attire and seems to blame you for his damp shoulders. The bus arrives, and you step on, heading straight for the back. Not because you have to, but because you get tired of people staring.>Head straight to work>Grab donuts

>>44753624You take the bus straight to the stop near the precinct. As you enter the building, you see several officers wiping their heads with towels as they moan about the weather. Luckily, officer Sutherland at the front desk seems to have been as cautious as you, as she sits happily at her post, hair neat and tidy beneath her garrison cap. She greets you as you walk by, and you wave. You reach your desk and see Russo sitting at her chair beside yours. Her shoulders are damp, and her hair is frizzled from a recent toweling. She sees you approach, and smiles meekly."Good morning, sir. Normally, he reports, she returns after about a day, but this time it's been two weeks. While you wish they'd gotten to you sooner, you'll have to make do. Worst of all, messing this case up will mean bad press for the precinct for months. You stand just as Russo returns in a black t-shirt bearing the police logo on the breast, and uniform pants and boots. She even thinks to don the military cap."I think I pull off the lady cop look pretty well, right sir?" You brush her off and tell her you're moving out now. You and Russo split up for a second, and you head to the locker room to hang your service pistol in your locker and replace it with the revolver. When you meet back up with Russo, she has a vest pulled over her shirt. Together you make your way to the garage and retrieve your car, then head for the freeway. You arrive in Silver Sands sometime around 9:00. The sound of the ocean can be heard in the distance, and you detect a heavy increase in the salt content in the atmosphere. Russo comments on the smell, forgetting you aren't really able to tell the difference between good and bad scents. As you roll up to a large beachside mansion along the coast, Russo's mouth goes agape. It seems she's never been near this part of town, let alone seen one of the upper crust's places of residence up close. You bring the car up to the door, and step out.The place is big, and ostentatious with it's fountain, elaborate topiary, and lush grass. The door is made of white wood and delicately detailed glass, and the doorbell plays a heavenly chime when you ring it. In a minute, a woman answers. She is tall, buxom, and blonde as a field of wheat. Her clothing consists of a bathing suit and a towel robe, pulled over to give the illusion of modesty while still allowing her features to spill out. In one hand, she holds a martini glass filled with what you presume is hard liquor."Morning, officers. When you enter, you can 'smell' a heavy scent of perfume, alcohol from a nail polish, citrus aerosol, and just the faintest hint of blood. The walls of the room itself is pink and purple, at least the little bit of it that isn't covered in music and movie posters. The bed is messy, as is the makeup station. You notice a few odd things. There are plenty of dirty clothes on the ground, but the closet is practically empty. Also, the bed seems to be a bit worn out. Odd, considering her father must make more than enough in a day to replace a king size mattress. If you had to guess, she and the folks weren't on speaking terms for quite a while. The magazines are on foreign travel destinations, and modern tech. The tech magazine is oddly worn. She deserves to see the world! Meet people! She's so much more than what they think she is!""She is? Or you are?" Russo surprises you with her analytic jab. Ford is taken aback. He has nothing to say. There is a rumbling beneath your feet, likely the express train to Zenith. Could he have been planning to break through this wall into the tunnel? If so, he's got more than leg strength. He's got military grade hardware."Please, just let us go. I can take care of her. I can work, I can cook and clean. They don't go lenient on you guys."Russo is right. He'll have to clam up for the time being, but you trust he'll manage. He made it this long. You arrive at a motel in Lowtown about two hours later, thanks to traffic. Ford shows you to the room the two have been sharing. As you enter, you notice a large, messy bed, a ton of power tools piled up in the corner, and the smell of magazines and grease. You hear a sound coming from the bathroom, and you and Russo turn your attention to it.The door swings open to reveal a girl. A petit little thing, with blonde hair in tails and nothing on but underpants and what you're ashamed to say is a negligee. You turn away slightly, hoping Russo doesn't mind. When the girl spots the two of you, uniforms and all, you can see the light of joy and young love that illuminated her cute little face burn out, and be replaced by the gloom of realization."H-hey you can't be here! I-I-I'll call my dad! Help! Heelp!" Ford steps in, calming her a bit."Sadie, it's okay. These people are here to help." He approaches her, but she recoils."What!? No! Ford you promised! You promised you'd take me away! To Germany! To Russia! You said-""I know what I said, but I was wrong. We don't have to do this, not yet. We can wait. >>44760472>Step inLook; you are smart. You could try to run away together now, maybe even make it beyond the border. Or not, because everywhere police and all forms of law enforcement will be after you. Then it's only a matter of time before your face gets printed on milk bottles, and people on the street will recognise you and try to bring you in. And when the law fails, bounty hunters come wanting nothing that the reward money put on your head by your parents. Why do all that, when you can get what you want with patience? I have met your parents, I know how little they care if you are around. They won't even notice the change if you play smartly and I know you can. Just endure till you are legal, and you can go wherever you want, as a common girl who just wants to move out from her parent's house.Heck, even they might be the ones who will unknowingly pay for you trips.
>>44760472"In two years your dad won't be able to stop you. And if he tries, HE'lll be the one facing charges.Do you really want a life on the run? And if they catch you two, you know what happens to Ford?"Make chopping head motions
>>44760725>>44760567Sadie doesn't bite, at least not at first. It takes a good hour before she's even open to the idea of going back. After that, with Russo's help, it takes another two to get her to stop sobbing, get her dressed, and pack her things and put her in the car.On the way back, you come up with a cover for her parents. She got lost, got harrassed by some punks, and when she wouldn't play ball they dumped her in Lowtown with no way to get back. They're the ones who wracked up the charges on her credit card too. You had to ditch her wallet to make it believable. Finally, Charles will maintain that the lady of the house told him to fetch her, and without any conflicting orders, he's been wandering the streets looking ever since. When you arrive, her parents rush out to greet, and subsequently chew the girl out for losing her card, and causing them to have to go to you for help. She'll be house bound for a month, but you don't suspect that's too much of a punishment.Ford, or Charles, sees you to the door. When he closes it behind him, he whispers a thank you. You ask about his new parts, but he says the owners never bother looking under his chassis, and that Sadie is always painting him up anyway. With everything settled, it's just back to the precinct now to fill out a mountain of paperwork. You drive down the busy highway with Russo, when she suddenly speaks up."Sir, I have a question. >>44761019>>44761111The two of you return to the precinct without incident. It takes the rest of the day to fill out the paperwork you need done to close the case. When it does finally come time to clock out, Russo changes into her normal clothes and wishes you good night. After turning in your gear, you head for the door. The chief stops you, calling from up the stairs in the lobby. You go to see her, and she pulls you into a huddle."I'm glad today went off without too much trouble. Got a message from a shopkeep in Silver Sands, saying two Cons busted up her store. I was worried she would press charges, then she told me what she was really calling about. Says she didn't know there were Cons in the precinct. Said if you ever want some find tuning, or a deep wax, drop by." The Chief hands you a business card, baring the address, number, and name of the Con body shop you were at earlier. "Guess you're smoother than you look." You thank the Chief for the compliment, and turn to leave. She stops you again."Listen, I know you've been on the force a long time. And you've been a detective for most of it. They'll never promote you again, but I want you to know I'm glad we have you. Isn't a day goes by you don't pull double your weight around here." You shrug, and tell her you're just doing your job.
Gonna wrap here tonight, and thanks for everyone who participated! I don't think we can archive this thread again, but oh well, it'll be on foolz I think. I'll hang around for a few more hours, so if anyone wants to know anything I'll be glad to answer

>>44761522Not anything really threatening. There are mostly groups that just don't want to grant civil rights to nonhumans, but they're seen as vocal minorities. There is a group called the Tower, who are made up of nonhuman members that commits acts of violence against humans, but they don't operate in the city as of yet, and are treated like any terror cell. Anything they do would be under the jurisdiction of the federal government
