Your physical training for your magic isn't going well. You've spent weeks straining yourself, only to find minor improvements in your abilities, but you think you have a solution. What you need is a focus. Power is shaped by will and understanding, you know that already. Well understanding comes only with time and age, as well the Elders have taught your clan, but power and will... The crystals hold power and when you create a magical artefact, it never runs dry, so perhaps you can eke a little extra power from the crystal dust Ebba saved when you carved the statue for Nila? Further, by shaping something to work magic with, you channel your will into it... Perhaps you might yet make something worthwhile from this? Inspired, you set to work. Sera assists you by finding a length of wood suitable for a spear, but you have something different in mind. Little by little, you scrape and carve, whittling the top into something that fits. All power comes from the gods, so you set to work on their likeness.Deciding on the gods to honour is hard. All have traits worth their praise and if you left any off, they may be offended... In the end, you carve down the shaft, notching their likeness into the wood. Ulh's watchful hawk head; Lugal's antlered, regal form; Ursa's strength; Soqed's predatory grin...You leave none out, even if your blindness ensures they are not perfect copies. Sera and Ebba, thankfully, find the time to help correct you, acting as your eyes, when your touch fails you.
>>44714481Once the staff is carved, you mix the crystal dust with ash from the fire and a little water, making a crude paint and trust Ebba to help you apply it just right. She picks out scales, eyes, claws, teeth and horns, so that they sparkle and gleam in the light. It takes you a long time, but finally, you can feel the power of the result. Next to the Fool's Solace, you can't help but feel it is lacking, but it still has plenty of power. The difference is minor but perceptible; you have created the first tool for magic. Magic has permeated the wood as well. It's strong and resilient, far more so than any lesser wood. Not unbreakable perhaps, but much less prone to sundering all the same. You have created a Fine Shaman's Staff! This staff adds +2 to any roll to cast shamanic magic or invoke the gods of the wild. It is also highly durable. It is now late spring. >>44714545>>Bring more land under cultivationHow much food do we have? If we bring land at late spring it still is enough to harvest right?
>>44714666Correct! You currently have enough to last you until early summer and then feed three of your family until midsummerPlanting currently occurs in late spring (mostly because no-one wants to get their ass in gear in early spring) and harvest is in late fall. If you cultivate land this turn, it'll count for this year's harvest.
>>44714545>Bring more land under cultivationgotta make sure we don't starve
>>44714545>Bring more land under cultivation>Task Sera with gathering supplies for when we visit the Herders
Bit quiet tonight... Well, three votes is enough. Called and writing.
I've been on again off again for the last few threads and have been catching up with the archives. Am I right in my recollection that our blindness is to be cured by uniting clans of the valley? Some kind of trial?
I was slightly wrong. You have enough food to last until mid-summer and then feed three of you into late summer, through to autumnThere's absolutely nothing wrong with more food. With your new staff in hand, you cut something of an impressive figure as you gather the tribe together. Honestly, no-one else objects to the idea of more food and by and large, the clan are good burst-workers. Huge efforts at planting and harvest time are fine, so long as they're left to their own devices in the rest of the year. You have 15 labour points available. Your land is unsurveyed>Small field - 5 points>Large field - 12 pointsScrapping land costs for now as honestly, you are never going to run out at this point>>44715975Exactly right. Rhea, a god/dess not from the wild, has told you they will restore your sight if you can unite the clans of the valley into one tribe.

>>44716126>Large field - 12 pointsFirst live thread I've caught in a while
>>44716126>Large fieldalso, finish that small field we started on last time.
Votes called unanimously. Nobody making anything with the leftover points?Alright, writing.
>>44716877We can do that? start work on trenches from the river.
>>44716877So, this time around we have 2 large fields and 1 small field. That we finished last year, hows that change this for this years food supply. You guys how about we trade some spare food for a net one of these turns? Fishing + net + staff + magic should get us a pretty big haul. + better magic and so on. But importantly gives us more food we can use to feed the poor and share with the needy.
>>44717068Pulling in nets with magic seems more plausible than just straight picking up the fish. And our magic "vision" should make seeing when they fill easier.
Another stretch of large fields are added to the surroundings of the village. You're honestly getting fairly close to completely surrounding your collection of homes with a patchwork of fields that the families all help to farm. It's still not enough for complete sustainability, but you're pretty damn close. Now if only your diet was slightly more varied...You now harvest 36 units of food every harvest time. You can feed everyone in your family until the start of fall and then one person clear until the next harvest time! With only a little bit of supplementary scavenging, you are not totally sufficient! The herders have arrived on the far side of the river. The now fairly regular trading between your clans resumes. It is early summer. >>44717453> Talk to the clanPitch the idea of having the herders join the village. More help in the fields, plus we get domesticated goats.

Rolled 10 (1d10)>>44717616This magic training+ fishing. And the trade for net
Ah crap-! Sorry about that guys. Okay, updating now.Unlike some quest runners, I do not try to make excuses for my shitty focus, at least.
Thank you for finally letting me post, Captcha...You have come to a conclusion that trying to fish using traditional methods without your sight is next to impossible. It's time to level the playing field significantly. You approach the couple who first introduced nets to the clan and inquire about acquiring one of your own. Honestly, they seem a little shocked to be approached by you. With the half-cape covering your blackened hand, the blindfold across your eyes and now the staff in your hand, you realise you have to cut a pretty impressive and intimidating figure. Even so however, as soon as you speak of trade, their worry vanishes and is replaced by haggling. It doesn't take too long for you to agree to trade some of the fine hides you were gifted by Mesut, in exchange for a good fishing net. The advantage is immediately obvious; you can just place the net in the river, wait for it to get heavy and haul it out; no sight required at all!Eager to test out your new tool, you make for the river and set the net with a little help from Sera. It doesn't take too long before you have brought in more fish in a day, than you would otherwise in a week! It certainly gives you plenty of time to talk with the rest of the clan. You try to delicately approach the subject of having the herders join the clan, but you're met with surprisingly stiff opposition. Most of the clan seem to mistrust them, saying the goats will eat too much of the grain, leaving little for the rest of you. Others claim the clan is big enough as it is. You start to realise that the clan has spent so long in its own company, your people are becoming insular. They accept the presence of others, but want to keep themselves apart. Changing that will take some effort on your part.
>>44720271Now you have a net, you can roll your Fisher job, without adding bonuses from Skill. Fishing with a net gets results easier, especially for the unskilled, but you have less potential for massive success.Of course, the net also lowers the threshold for catches. You must choose carefully whether to use spear fishing or net fishing in future. You can still enchance your chances using magic. You have brought home two units of food in the form of fish this season. It is now late summer. What do you do?>Hunt the aurochs 1d10 (Strength -Blind)>Fish in the river 1d10 (Skill +Trait -Blind)>Explore the forest>Explore up the valley>Explore the hills>Try and investigate something new (List options)>Make something special (List options)>See what the mood of the clan is like, talk to people and get to know them (free)>Change your active jobs and examine your inventory (free)>Try to summon a new god>Make offerings to a god>Bring more land under cultivation>Other
>>44720292Does that mean we have enough food for until when?
>>44720292>>OtherIf we're gunna grow, we need to change. Instill an acceptance or need for change within the community. What is it we can gain from the herders? I think the tribe need to have talks with them, learn how they live and use the land, first hand. Maybe go ourselves, maybe send a group from the tribe. The goal being to draw as many parallels between us and the herders as possible, and give the tribe reason to want us to join with them. Get some primitive cultural exchange going.
>>44720292But that was magic fishing..No increase to magic? Any added bonus to sight/weight/ect of magic? Pulling and pushing the net in the water and lifting it out with fish. While pushing our sight to feel the fish in the water. Also could we continue to trade for a few more nets? Say enough for our kids to join us in fishing? So it would be a 2d10+3?
>>44720423This. We need to build simple yet permanent connections between the tribes and then slowly draw them together over time.
>>44720449Well I assume we are constantly healing any bruises we come across in our village. We could make a sort of "pilgrimage" to friendly villages, and heal their sick/injured best we can. To make a personal connection to them. And show them of our worth. Also trade with the herders while there in good faith. fish/grain for meat for our own family. And let them know if they need healing we offer it. They just need to visit us. If we're not by.Creates some good relations, and improves our magic while also giving our family a more balanced diet.
>>44720423I like this, go under the guise of a spiritual conference. See if they know any spirits that we don't or if they have heard anything about the best offerings or stuff that worked well for them
>>44720314If I've done my maths right, your family can now last until early fall.
>>44720292Do this >>44720423
>>44720724can you answer my questions in >>44720440Just curious. Since We specifically asked to do this as magic training.
>>44720440Ah, sorry... I am fucking up all over the show tonight.I'll be sure to account for magic next time. I must ask you not to make assumptions about what you'll be rolling however, as situations may sometimes arise that renders your roll null, due to unexpected bonuses or penalties. You could indeed trade or outright make more nets for your kids though, certainly. Also, please be aware that I am significantly slowing down the speed at which you gain skills, or the way things are going, you'd be a grandmaster in two or three years...
>>44721026mhm I understand. Thanks for the reply.>>44720423Sounds good.Anyone mind mixing in >>44720557Since our healing is something only "our" tribe knows. Healing their old and wounded should help. Also make trade more viable.
>>44721199Makes sense to me. "You like gods? Well ours sent us here to help you, heal your fragile and wounded, and to talk about the future."
>>44721238Do you have a moment to talk about Soqed?
This is gonna be awesomeWe are gonna match up to them badass blind scarred and with our crazy staff and blow their ducking minds. I think we should get bonus points to diplomacy for mystery and intimidation
Alrighty then, votes called. Time to write!Christ, I am turning outright nocturnal. You assholes are making me cry, dammit. Okay, enough touchy-feely blog posts. We're here to quest, not to stroke my ego!Staff in hand, magic at last understood and under control, you are finally ready. Your clan certainly won't make the steps towards unification on its own, so it's down to you. You're already in good standing with the strangers (is that really a good name for them still? They've been here in the valley years now), but the herders are still very much an enigma to you. Not only that, they come and go, leaving the valley as their herds take them. That needs to change. Without information, you can't even hope to form a bond between your people. Luckily, you already have an excellent inroad; your healing. It's time to assemble your small party and pay a visit. Larger groups has been largely replaced by smaller ad-hoc bands trading what they have on hand, simply because it's easier to organise, so there is no-one immediately obvious for you to go with. Instead, you'll have to get this set up yourself.Who will come with you to the herders? Choose as many as you wish.>Beren>Sera>Ebba>Elia>Galit>Noh>Ask Mesut>Ask Paku>Others
>>44722428Our nigga Elia. Maybe ask Mesut. Who's Paku?
>>44722428Bring the whole family and see if Mesut wants to come. Before we go tell them to try to talk to folks, behave with grace and courtesy and try to learn about them

>>44722428>>Ebba>>Elia>>BerenEbba because we can have her shadow us and maybe pick up some skills.Elia Because he's our ultimate wingman.Beren because of her social skills, also for the reasons covered last thread.Galit and Sera can stay back and watch Noh. Be sure to reassure Sera that she WILL learn to hunt With Soqued preferably.
>>44722471Yeah, he's not hand much screentime in a WHILE.Paku is your other brother. He joined Mesut's hunting band and is now an adopted member of his family.
>>44722428>EliaRight hand man. That's who we should have set the farms too>BerenThe people person. Have Galit look after our children while we're away.I say trying to get in good with out Mesut would be good. He can't do a power play of any kind if he isn't there. Better he learn after the fact, once we've done what we set out to.We could learn some tech, possibly herding, and have Elia be in charge of that. Noh/Ebba/Sera work under him. And we also teach them how to fish. When we get more nets. We srsly need to teach our children survival/useful skills. If they ever want a family of their own.
>>44722562I agree with this, take ebba, elia and beren
Votes called. Writing tonight's last entry, before I pick up in the morning, hating myself for not getting enough sleep.
>>44722938Sleep is for fags
>>44722952And I'm a Britfag. Further, my bed is literally 30cm from me."Sera, I need you to stay behind and look after your brother.""But why can EBBA go, while I can't? I'm older than her, dad! And Galit's staying behind anyway!"You've been dreading this conversation ever since you decided who to bring. Sera is red-faced and torn between hurt and fury. "Sera, I need you to stay behind BECAUSE you are the older sister! Ebba isn't old enough to mind the family yet and there are things she can learn from this journey."Sera stamps her foot and your magical touch-sight can feel her jabbing a finger at you. "There's barely more than a year between us! And some family it'll be to watch with just Noh and Galit! Brother isn't a helpless baby and Galit is completely able to look after herself! Why don't you want me to go? This is the first chance I've had to do anything with you and mother since you lost your sight, apart from just plucking fish out of the river!""I know you're frustrated, believe me, I understand," you sigh. If not for her normal behavior, you'd be starting to lose your patience with Sera's defiance by now. "I promise you, you will learn to hunt. If not from me, then from the best teacher I can find for you.""Who then? Mesut? Dad, I don't WANT to learn from him-!""No. Not Mesut. Soqed. I don't care what offering I have to make to get him to accept you as part of his pack, if it'll help you learn what you seek, I'll do it. Do you understand?"That silences your spirited daughter. She hangs her head, her arguments defeated by the generous offer. "I- Thank you, dad. Of course, that would be... But really, I just want to learn from you..."
>>44723207We are gonna be soooooooooo badass
>>44723207You place a hand on Sera's head and gently pet her dark hair. She's a good child and will grow up well, but your disability frustrates you both. "If this goes well, I may one day be able to hunt with you, Sera. But for now, I need you to watch the home. Can you do that for me?"She sighs, but nods, hugging you tightly. "You'd better come back alive," she growls threateningly. "No messing with magic this time.""I promise," you nod. "I'll come home safe and sound."You join your brother, wife and second-born daughter, ready to leave after bidding Noh a tearful farewell. For a boy of seven, he's still very emotional and attached to you. Elia and Galit also say their goodbyes, but unless your ears deceive you, they almost seem... Strained. Maybe so many years is finally starting to weigh on Elia's mind? Galit hasn't even given him any children, for goodness sake! The four of you take your belongings and set out. You reach the river in fairly good time and can see the herders camp on the far side. Honestly, if it wasn't for Nila's natural barrier between you, they'd be uncomfortably close. You cock your head, listening to the river for a moment, before you sense Beren staring a hole in the back of your head. You clear your throat."Let's... Let's go find a crossing, shall we?"You don't want to walk into that lion's den again! You're pretty sure you heard her slip the pestle into her travelling bag...
Urgh, I can't go on.Fuck this, I'm dead at the helm. See you all tomorrow! Thank you all for coming and stay safe.

Saw this on the archive. I was with you all the way on the last civ game from the start. When we fucked up our sacrifice to the God of combat, tried to romance the winter, traveled to the magical forest to get flimflammed by the fox Madame, best up those filthy hill folk and caused a ruckus with the northern people. I'm overjoyed that you decided to run again because you create a very vibrant and living world that is very rare. This is great and please keep going!
One final bump for hope RWB will be back in the next few
BUMPS FOR THE BUMP GOD
you are not permitted to die.
So maybe while we wait for the Britfags return we can flak about the logistics of making this treaty work?I think running the spiritual line is the best course of action right now. Living such a similar life to your own, surely the herders have some strong spiritual views. Priority should be aligning those and, if possible, tying our visit with some kind of spiritual milestone for our own tribe.
>>44736359That's not a bad idea
