You are Jadyk of the Wormstar, ancient Lich-Lord and a commander in the Grand Necrotic Armada. The Armada is broken millennia ago, the Wormstar silent and vanished, your ally Ghul murdered and his power fueling an interstellar empire but yet you remain.Released from your imprisonment only days before you have slowly but steadily been regrowing your power and army. You've already proven you have not forgotten the ways of combat in your long time away, defeating, enslaving, and reconstructing a patrol of Osjiic soldiers looking to claim your base as their own.Talons stalk the mountains and cliffs under the gaze of high-flying Gargoyles. Stingers and Trolls waiting for their chance at combat, resting in the tunnels of the mine. You feel your enslaved minions and their apprehension. The miners sending repaired drones back into the tunnels to dig for stone and ore but focused now on fueling your return rather than their former home. The Voidsinger sits in solitude in the resting area of the mining camp, glimmers of Void energy rippling across their form. This world was your prison but now it will become the first step you take to reclaiming your power and staking out your own vision in this chaotic galaxy.
>>43002507Welcome back folks.I set up a pastebin with veeeeery basic stats about unit creation and production capabilities. Probably going to get reworked in the future to make it work better: http://pastebin.com/Y28Z8ZAGMake sure to follow my twitter where I announce the threads: https://twitter.com/CeroTheNullTroop Totals:>Talons: 30>Stingers: 18>Gargoyles: 6>Trolls: 4 (two ranged, two melee)>Enslaved Minions: 3 Human miners, 1 Osjiic VoidsingerYour power grows with ever life you drain and every undead you create, the Cauldron churning with potential to blanket the world in death and reconstruction. You ponder your next step.Jor, recovered from his scrape with death, says that the Colony radioed in again asking about the miners and he was forced to say they were killed in a tunnel collapse. You wave it off dismissively, glad you would not have that to bother you for the time being but Jor remains. He falters under your hollow gaze and he stammers out a "T-t-thank you..." for saving his life and he scurries away. The Voidsinger admits that the outpost was only expecting a report every other day unless they encountered signs of the pirates. He also lets slip that there were two other groups heading out into the surrounding mountains to set up their own sensor towers, grimacing when he realizes his inadvertent betrayal of his former comrades. You nod and thank him for the information. What shall you do?

>>43003137You question the Osjiic if he knew more specifically where they were at and after several minutes writhing from the shards power he finally gasps out vague directions. The Osjiic did not allow different patrols to know each others routes or locations to avoid situations similar to this but the Voidsinger had briefly overheard a trooper in one of the other groups mention a specific mountain range to the north of the colony. After thanking him for the information you turn your attention to the Cauldron where five of your Talons were lowering themselves into the churning liquid. The emerge several minutes later, their head warped to support the great eye and olfactory organs shaped like fins. They shake the black liquid from their thin forms before leaping away to join the waiting Talons. They dash away and you're pleased to note they do not show up on your own sensor towers screens, hoping they would be able to get close to the other outposts without notice. They circle around the colony giving their border a wide berth and sticking to the rocks. It takes quite some time but by sunset they reach the foothills of the other mountains where they split up to cover more ground. While the Cyclop Talons did not have the enhanced thermal or electrical senses the Gargoyles did they were able to see for long distances, eye attuned to tracking movement. They comb through the hills and jagged outcroppings before they start climbing up the short but steep cliffs that make up most of the mountainscape.Clambering over a cliffs edge one of the Cyclops scans the area, realizing they discovered a small mountain path. Jor had said there were other previous attempted mining sites that failed to produce results and were abandoned. Your Cyclops flares the scent fins and catches the scent of machine oil, ionized air from a hovercraft and the distinct scent of Osjiic. They had passed by here recently.>Cont
>>43003679Your scouting Talons converge on the area as the first group follows the path but staying off it. They follow it up curving through crevasses and along cliffs until high above the valley a Talon nearly stumbles directly into the Osjiic camp. Scampering to hide you are relieved to see they hadn't detected its presence and soon your Talons and Cyclops converge while the keen-eyed undead spy on the camp.Set up in a clearing at the top of a cliff the camp had several collapsable tents where Osjiic milled about or sat tending to their weapons. A hovercraft similar to the one back at your mine sits to the side with an Osjiic working on the engine. What looked like a large two barreled turret gun sits ready but unattended at the edge of the cliff overlooking the path leading to the camp.Like the group you encountered they numbered six but they had no Voidsinger, your enslaved Osjiic saying they were expected to stay at the colony outpost. They had a sensor tower like yours and a trooper stands at the console punching away at the keys. Gathering your troops you leave behind a pair of Stingers and the zombie Osjiic to keep watch over the Mine and your knocked out minions as you depart with the bulk of your force.Gargoyles fly overhead and scout for anything in your way. With the Trolls and Stingers slowing you down it would take several hours until you could make it to the camp with the main force. Sending Talons ahead you march with the others steadily and send your attention to the Talons surrounding the camp.Only two of the Osjiic remained awake, one patrolling the camp and the other sitting near the sensor towers control console. Your Talons slowly creep into the camp as the Cyclops keep watch. You wonder how easily it would be to slip into the tents and slit their throats but you needed their energy and at least one of them alive. A pair of Talons slip into the hovercraft and locate the radio, claws tearing the device away from the dash and the two pulling it apart thoroughly.Your others take their time, watching as the one by the tower starts to nod off until you can sense it was asleep, motionless and slouched. As the patrolling Osjiic move to the other side of the camp a group of Talons creep up on the sleeping Osjiic. They do not see the six fingered fist on its armor that signified a commander so the Talons move quickly, tackling the Osjiic and only letting it it grunt before it's helm is torn off and its throat slashed before it could shout for help. It takes four Talons to heft it up and it to a cliff before dumping it as one stays behind, tearing into the sensors console before dashing away at the sounds of the patrolling Osjiics footsteps.>Cont
>>43004548You were working your way up the path by this point, your Talons joining with the others waiting for the main force. The patrolling trooper glances where it's comrade was but shrugs and mumbles something about a bathroom break and moves on, thankfully missing the patch of blood and torn console. With your forces ascending steadily and the sky starting to lighten in the distance you knew you had to destroy that gun turret before you arrived. With the trooper movng past the turret your Talons dash out and try to claw and rip up the mounted gun but to no avail. Settling instead for disabling it they tear at the drums of ammunition and yank it from the gun with a screech of metal. This gains the patrols attention who hurries back and lets out a shout, spotting a Talon hopping over the cliffs edge. Your Talons burst from cover when you spot them prepping several missiles. They charge for the two hissing and shrieking and the trooper manages to turn around and squeeze off a few rounds from his repeater before several Talons tackle him and wrench his gun away. The Commander spins and attempts to aim the cumbersome rocket launcher but he is tackled by a swarm of Talons that knock the weapon away. A Talon crumbles under a blow from a fist that hits like a cannon and your Talons scurry away lugging the weapon behind them. The Osjiic on the cliffs continue to fire down on your troops and another Stinger collapses. Your ranged Trolls aim their rifle arms up the cliff and fire several rounds that scatter the troopers. Taking the opportunity your soldiers break into a blind dash as you quickly levitate yourself up the cliff face, hoping the waste of energy would be worth it.Your Stingers move onto the clearing and line of their shields, those unshielded hiding behind the trolls that lay down fire driving them back. Like caving in the cave or something like that, or just removing any incriminating evidence if we can't. Once that's done we should return to HQ and start fortifying it in the event their buddies come looking for them. We should see if we can't get that heavy machine gun up and running, that would help out any static defense a lot.
>>43006320There would be signs of a battle since there are bullet holes and casings along with shards and splinters of bone and chitin and crumbs of broken Talons but those wouldn't be too obvious to any investigating party. You could scrap the site and take as much as you can of salvageable metal if you want. >>43008213Could we make a gun that shoots armor shards of domination? So we can dominate at a distance
>>43008213N.I wanted a poearm
>>43008231No more like this the mother fucking lance of Longinus
>>43008213>>43008231I was thinking polearm and a sidearm, just to be clear.
>>43008285>>43008314Yes thsi is to make one of both
>>43008247>Fires shards of our armor each inscribed with runes of dominationWhile incredibly useful, we would probably wind up stripping ourselves bare ass just trying to fill the magazine up.Let's do it anyway.
>>43008295>>43008343Can our polearm be this?
>>43008353Only cowards fight clothed>>43008361I like that weapon
>>43008343Then Y.>>43008247Nah. Too easy to miss.>>43008361>that dumb springWe should use a trilance or naginta
>>43008343Alright good. And actually I could deal with something like>>43008295>>43008361
Why not a scythe for a polearm? I would think that would fit the theme, as well as most likely being intimidating towards your foes.
>>43008532I feel like scythes are a bit overplayed, but provided we get a nice picture and theres no mechanical penalty then I don't really care what kind of polearm we have.
>>43008532But scythe are shit for combat, we only think of them as a weapon because of the grim reaper but he only used that for symbolism and to demean us. I'm all for the lance
We should make ourselves a mount, possibly with the void energy. Hunt down some kind of strong ass animal for it.With a gun and polearm/Lance it would suit us perfectly
>>43008689You read my mind anon.
>>43008689In time the very world will be our mount
What if we pop this on the end of a pole and call it a polearm? I think the 4 prongs fit the soul draining thing.
>>43008117Your new troops pull themselves from the liquid of the Cauldron, the new Trolls hefting the Osjiic weapons as they move out into the tunnels to join their kin.Dipping your hands into the black liquid you decide it is time to finally arm yourself. You debate with yourself about what weapons to craft for yourself and you think back to your former days of glory. The image comes to your mind, a powerful spear of black twisting metal that crackled and hummed with your power, a weapon that once felled cruisers with a single throw at the height of your power. While you were far from recreating that power you pull a heavy chitin and bone spear from the pit along with a heavy shardsplitter for yourself. With those out of the way you turn to one of the drum repeaters, lifting it with a thought and depositing it in the Cauldron where you take it to pieces. Studying the mechanisms you believe you can recreate them with the Cauldron. An hour later and you pull out the first of your new weapons out of the black liquid.>Created Bone Repeater>Two thick barrels lead to a heavy bone and chitin reservoir holding bullets of bone and metal. Able to unleash a hail of bone and metal they are only accurate at mid to close ranges but are capable of laying down covering fire for an impressive amount of time. Cost 2MWith your new Cyclopean Talons stalking the cliffs and playing lookout you realize they would need a weapon of their own. Bone Rifles were a good start but they were much too noisome and cumbersome. You dip your hands into the liquid and begin work on a new weapon.>Spine Caster>A long ranged and mostly silent sniping rifle the Spine Caster is a long skinny weapon of bone metal that fires a rather large spine of lathe carved bone that is fired at extreme speeds. Accurate at long distances it has a powerful recoil meaning lighter troops must brace themselves before firing. Cost 2M
>>43008751But we need a mount for out mount. If any alien equivalent for dragons exist then, that. Give it void energy too >>43008773Seems like a stave
I found this, a war-scythe. Seems to work like a regular spear, except it has a curved blade. Works symbolically, and practically.
FOOLS! There is but only one weapon fit for us. The soul reaver
>>43008858Oh dam, he is right
>>43008821Arm one ogre with a repeaterHe can lock down areas
>>43008821>lighter troops must brace themselves before firingWould something as heavy as stingers be able to fire it normally?
>>43008821We need to make a very small creatures, used for sabotaging enemy ships, they get in the vents and fuck with stuff
>>43008963How bout tribbles?
>>43008821The missile launcher that the Osjiic commander almost turned on your forces intrigues you. While you had neglected to use explosives for your ground troops since they don't leave much afterwards for reconstruction you knew new times meant new innovations.A single Cyclopean Talon takes several of the missiles deeper into the mine away from any bystanders and carefully starts to disassemble them one by one under your instruction. To your relief the Cyclopean Talon breaks the missiles apart without hazard. Picking through the pieces and even tasting parts you start to think you have a very basic understanding of them.Plunging your hands into the liquid once more you don't even notice the time pass but eventually hours later you pull forth another new creation.>Thumper>A large tube that fires an egg shaped grenades in an arcing path. Grenades must be loaded individually between firing and a unit can carry 5 at a time and must be resupplied by a Cauldron. They can be fired, rolled, or even placed by hand. Costs 3MSo far you have two types of grenade:>Explosive: Detonates in a powerful explosion of thermal energy>Fragmentation: A weaker explosion sends jagged shrapnel of bone and metal in all directions, ineffective against heavier armors
>>43009046>>43008963Yes, let us make gremlins!
>>43009105If you wish you can consolidate Cyclopean Talons and Spine Casters into a new template type if there is support. But first I must go get something to eat before continuing. I realized I forgot to get food for dinner
>>43009145Yeah, I'm tempted to do that. Would giving them heavier armor, like the stingers, enable them to fire without bracing?> I realized I forgot to get food for dinnerSame here. Its almost midnight and I hardly ate anything this morning.
>>43009145>If you wish you can consolidate Cyclopean Talons and Spine Casters into a new template type if there is supportY.One thumper 3 fragmentation 2 thermals.Research gas grenades. We can have gargoyles drop them before an attack. Drop tear gas grenades and then slaughter them
>>43009145Yeah that would certainly streamline things, I'll support it.>>43009093Good god, they would ruin a ship, possibly our own as well. Not intentionally of course, they would just sort of drown enemy crew and machinery in a sea of fluffiness.
>>43009046Oh my god. Guys we have been doing this all wrong! We should just make millions of small things instead of a few big! guns can't do shit to the swarm!
>>43009105New Troop totals:>Talons: 35>Cyclops: 10>Stingers: 23>Gargoyles: 6>Trolls: 8 (all ranged, two with melee weapons)>Enslaved Minions: 3 Human miners, 1 Osjiic Voidsinger, 1 Osjiic Commander>1 Osjiic ZombieNew Template created:>Cyclops>A modification of the Talon they include the Cyclopean Gaze adaptation along with the Spine Caster weapon attached to their shoulder. Able to see and track over long distances this nimble unit circles the battlefield searching for opportunities to line up shots with their weapons and provide recon on troop movements. Most effective when paired with Gargoyle unitsThe Spine Caster is a long barreled weapon and a Cyclops has it attached to their shoulder on a hinged pseudolimb. Folds against the back when in movement or at rest, moves forward when attacking.(Think a Predators shoulder mounted plasmacaster)
>>43009258>>43009093The very last thread of HQQ before the hiatus the Hive just got a sample of their very own Tribble. I shudder to think of what monstrosities the Queen is going to make with them.Ok now I'm afk, will return in a bit
>>43009404I can't wait till we start improving it. Its going to be beautiful. I like to think it'll be a good weapon against the scavs
>>43009404Good god it will be amazing. Imagine it, our creep will become so fluffy. Fluffy creep, if you will.
>>43009370And I'm back.Roll call to see who's still around
>>43010170I'm still around
>>43010170Alrighty then.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nAHRlc_Uz4It is the dawn of a new day when you emerge from the Cauldron room, tired but satisfied at the progress you've made. Your new troops line the tunnels and side rooms, awaiting your orders.Jor is there to show you the repaired and improved heavy turret. You sense an amusing amount of pride in him as he shows off the turret mounted onto the back of the mines hover skiff. >Gained TurretskiffIt would require a pilot to drive and a gunner to fire while on the move but can be used as a stationary gun emplacement while parked. The mounting adjusts allowing either a human or Osjiic sized unit to operate it and swivels allowing the gun to turn in all directions except directly up.You pat Jor on the shoulder and clack your jaws, your eternal grin looking down at him, "Nice work, Jor. You are making the decision to keep you alive a good one," the rush of pride and relief that temporarily overrides his eternal numb terror is quite amusing. You find the Voidsinger helping the now conscious Commander by bringing him food and water from the mines pantry. They glance at you but continue on in silence.Do you wish to question them once more?
>>43010315What is "Masked"?
We should give Jor some power once he becomes mindbroken enough and make him a general.
>>43010315Ask them about the pirates their trying to hunt down?We should also ask him to tell us about this planet and the system it belongs to.
>>43010315Ask them where baby's come from(There response should be funny)
>>43010315You step into the room with the two Osjiic, feeling the hatred roll off the commander like waves, the Voidsinger indifferent to you now. Just a new master, same as the last.Moving to sit on a chair much too small for you you face the two soldiers. They look up at you, only glancing as a pair of trolls move past the door on their way to carve out and haul up your 'throne' from the crypt below.Tapping your chitin clawed fingertips together you mull over where to start and decide on something simple, "Tell me about these pirates you are supposedly here for. From what I've gathered from my other servants they seem...friendly enough folk, trading and socializing with the colony."The Commander spits with a growl, "I knew they were in leagues with them. It's a pirate clan, spacers that call themselves Daggers. They ambush supply ships and ransom their captives. They recently attacked several of our supply convoys, ambushing them as they refueled. Their numbers were larger than usual, they must've had a recruitment drive."You nod, glad they were deciding to be helpful, "Despicable. I shall have to 'recruit' them for myself should I encounter them. Tell me what you know about this planet and system. I don't recall my arrival here. I was rather dead."They glance at each other before the Voidsinger speaks, "This planet is designated Horizon's Drop by the colonists under galactic settling laws. No true sentients live on this planet. Brine seas cover roughly half the planet with large polar ice caps, the land mountainous and chill. The system has two other planets, a gas giant with lots of moons the locals and our ships use for refueling. Some of the moons have ruins on them but they are long destroyed. Then there's a radiation blasted rock closer to the sun. Our navigator said it looked like the planet was close to being sucked into the sun withing several centuries. Lots of detected metals but too hazardous to mine or explore."
>>43010576Digesting the information you make sure to remember it for you eventual escape from the planet. Both planets may prove useful.Something irked you about the Commanders previous reaction and you lean forward, aware of Jor watching from the doorway silently but ignoring him, "Tell me about "Masked" and why it pains you so to speak of it," you say watching their reactions. The Commander grunts and looks away, his hand lifting to an old but large scar on the side of his hairless head, "Osjiic officers are given...augments to prevent sensitive information from falling into enemy hands. Revealing subjects designated as classified by resisting the augments leads to seizures and possibly death."You would scowl if you had the face, instead clacking your jaws in disappointment then looking to the Voidsinger who shrugs, "I have no such augmentation," he says simply, the commander looking at him with shock, "I've never seen one of the Masked but stories of them exist. I'm sure even your human pet there knows a few," they say nodding to Jor who pales. The human gulps, "Y-yes, the Masked are myths. Trickster aliens or ghosts, the stories never are consistent."The Voidsinger nods, "They appear to leaders and tell them secrets and their enemies weaknesses while betraying them with their own unknowable secrets. Some say they play with empires and kingdoms because they are bored immortals, others say they're but a single powerful individual. Most stories have them dealing with leaders and heroes and villains, influencing the Galaxy to their whims. Most Osjiic consider them conspiracies but judging by the officers reaction, there must be truth.""Thank you, Voidsinger, for being so open and honest with me," you look to the commander who was glaring at the voidsinger, "See how easy and painfree that was?">Any other questions?
>>43010720>himAsk the voidsinger where voidsingers get their power from in the first place, is there a source of void power?
>>43010720Ask them if they have seen any poison gas around?(Really that should be our primary strategy)
>>43010720"Voidsinger, where does the source of your Void power come from? How is it given to you?" If you could somehow claim this for yourself...The Voidsinger touches their armor and a ripple of void energy shimmers across their form, "There are rituals. They take the flame of a Deathwatch Voidsinger and implant it inside us. It slowly consumes us from the inside until we are naught but bone, flame, and the Void. Our ships are powered by shards of condense void energy formed from Voidsinger bones. A few grams of bone dust from a Deathwatch Voidsinger powers our dropships while entire skeleton power our the largest of our ships. The Emperor's line has long owned a voidmaul formed from the skull of the first Deathwatch, Prime Scolopre."Quite interesting."Would either of you know how to procure or produce weaponized gases? Knock out, poison, smokescreens, anything would be helpful," you shift the subject to something the soldiers might know. The commander nods, "I know the formula for our smoke grenades and flares. The main camp would have knock-out and riot gases for dealing with irate colonists. Our helms come with their own air scrubbers so it would be useless to use them against Osjiics," he says defiantly. You chuckles, clacking your teeth, "So self-centered. I'm sure I'll find a use for them. Now, when you have a chance, mix me up a sample of your smokescreen. Jor will be happy to help you out, won't you Jor?" you call out and the man nods and quickly agrees, "Good."The commander glances at a small readout on the wrist of their armor, "The main camp will be expecting our report any time now," he says. The Voidsinger says they were due as well and you nod, letting him stand and leave to send the message. The commander looks at you questioningly and you motion for him to go, the large humanoid following Jor to the repair bay to start working on a sample of the smokescreen grenade
>>43011016And I think I'm gonna call it here for tonight.Hope folks had fun, I know I did running it.Thread is archived here and if you could please vote if you enjoyed: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=death+among+the+starsI'll stay around for a bit to answer questions if folks have any that aren't too spoilery
>>43011038Thanks for running
>>43011038Thanks for running man, have a good night.
>>43011038Night dude, thanks for the run.
>>43011038any hint as to what faction we may face in the future? You mentioned a Confederation and something called the Ahkam right?Or is that too spoilery?
>>43011366The Confederations is a group of systems that took shape in the collapse of the Alliance of Planets that the Armada fought against. The Ahkam, as Jor described them, are giant spacesnakes.
