Recap:Last night went great but you were interrogated by GEC Inspectors as soon as you arrived at work this morning. Your jubilant boss, Mr. Devlinson, pulled you out of the fire but gave you what seemed like a difficult job; clearing the Sha Tin Water Treatment Plant of a salamander infestation. Armed with only the bare minimum of knowledge, you had to solo the job and succeeded spectacularly. Having finished the task in record time, you have two tranquilized juvenile salamanders in the back of your van and an even happier boss than before. The only downside is that you’ve triggered a water crisis for half the city.
“So basically what you’re telling me is, I done real good today?”“Hell yes Vinn. All you’ve got to do is come back and debrief… maybe pick up some water on the way, it’s going to take them a little while to get Sha Tin back online.”“I’ll see if I can find any in the area. I’ve got…” you think of Jeremy back home with nothing but tap water to sustain him, “…a powerful thirst.”“I know you do, son. Hey, hold for just one second, I’ve got a call coming in.”The holding music comes on, some old 2000’s era garbage.>https://youtu.be/x46GaoCodAQYou do a quick assessment of yourself and your inventory. The events of the last hour or so have left you a little rattled but you feel composed overall. And for once you’ve actually managed to go without being grievously injured, even if your hand hurts a little from punching that last salamander in the jaw. That was pretty stupid, considering the poisonous spines on its neck but your vest seems to have been too hard for the spines to penetrate. Thankfully.>Health [11/11]>Nerves [11/13]>SRT/STA [10/12]You’ve still got 18 of your powerful taser grids left, and you spent a truly negligible amount of ammunition on that one giant salamander in the sublevel. You spent 8 of your trank darts but your resupply before you left on this assignment means you still have 15 left.[1/3]

The woman catches your eye first, naturally. Her tall figure is a sight to behold and her silky black hair is braided into a tight ponytail. The man is just a hair shorter than her and would be above average alongside anyone else. His brown hair has been buzzed short and he is clean shaven. The form of his body is wiry and lean. You'd call it cat-like if you felt that was a compliment."Don't move, American." he tells you, pointing an accusatory finger at you. The hand is black and shiny, obviously cybernetic."...I won't.""Stop that. We can have a civilized conversation if you just talk properly.""I will."He turns to the woman."Cмoтpитe, я cкaзaл вaм, чтo oн cдeлaл этo нapoчнo!"You reach for your bag, half expecting the argument to resume. Damn Ruskie."I'd feel more comfortable if you told me who you were and why you're living in this cat-infested hellhouse.""I'm not sure I trust you enough to tell you who we are but I can tell you we are here because nowhere else is safe.""So you're deserters.""If you can desert what you never had a choice in joining, yes."Damn *treasonous* Ruskies."So what then," you ask, "You gonna kill me to keep your tracks covered?""Normally I would but today I think my wife would yell at me. Now, the building is not being sold, correct?""Correct.""You are here just because of complaints? Of moaning?""And screaming... and thumping.""Don't do that." he says, sighting the pistol on you, "I warned you.""That one was sincere. Do you know anything about the noises?""The screaming might be the cats and the moaning might be Ilya. But the thumping comes from somewhere upstairs in the night. It is loud, repeating.""Unnatural?""Very. I assume if you clear it and the cats away the complaints will stop and we can all go back to living as we were, right?""Right. Are you going to help me or what?""I think so," he says, emptying your gun and tossing it back to you."Just wait here while I get my toys."He vanishes into the bedroom while Ilya remains, watching you closely as she refills the kettle from a water tank.>try and strike up a conversation with her>try and pull the pin on your tranquilizing grenade now>silently offer up vodka to make sure she's on your side here>write-in

Really should knockout-gas this guy and rob him blind once this is over. Take the interesting toys he has. As deserters they shouldn't exactly have friends that can get pissed off for them.But. They must purchase food and water somehow. Maybe they do have connections.

Pretty soon there are three generous portions of vodka poured out.The man returns to the room, clad in grey and black body armor and wielding an enormous machine gun. You're pretty sure it would remove your arms if you tried to fire it.He rests it gently against the kitchen counter."Okay exterminator, out of your suit. You need to drink with us to seal the deal.">Nerves- [11/13]When you're all done drinking, the man covers his face with a mask that covers the lower half of his face and stretches up over his nose to connect with his armor somewhere in the back. Two glass bulbs the remaining hemispheres of his face and the impression of it all reminds you vaguely of a mantis. They shimmer for an instant and turn an opaque black."From now on, American, you can all me Maxim. >>42919057>>Whoa buddy, that gun is way too big and noisy. You got anything stealthier than that?Devlinson was clear. Also cats count as specs if alive right. They're all vectors.
>>42919090There would need to be something worthwhile for GEC to find by inspecting the cat. They are very often vectors so there is a good chance of this being the case even if there is nothing externally "wrong" with the cat. Still, you might want to hedge your bets and save your darts by waiting for a particularly unusual cat spec. Up to you.

You finally have to allow him a pistol and a large knife."But don't shoot too much.""Fine, I will gut the animals so as not to disturb the neighbors daytime television. Typical American."Conundrum resolved, the two of you step out into the hallway and spot two cats tormenting a bright green creature that's a little bigger than your fist. The barbs on its legs seem to be extremely sharp but they're not strong enough to penetrate your suit. Finally, you whip the damn thing to the floor and put the bowl down over it. It's not long before you're seeing more of the green insects slinging to the walls and ceiling. They crawl lazily away as you approach. The third floor, as you find it, is completely overgrown. Black tendrils reach down from the ceiling and the locusts gnaw upon them. You spot the unmistabable dry tight cylinders of muta-rat feces on the floor and, much to the shared chagrin of both you and Maxim, you see a cat dart down the corridor."I had no idea it was this bad.""That's an understatement. >>42919894Yeah, I'll try to start doing that regularly.I feel bad, mostly because it was a waste of a perfectly good 19.
>>42919932Extremely.Are most assignments supposed to take multiple threads. This one isn't even halfway.
>>42919932If you post the acknowledgment of the roll numbers before you start writing it also avoids needing a retcon you won't do to fix.
>>42919966Unless the players find a workaround or get lucky, its very much the norm for them to extend into two or even 3 threads. The last two assignments, which resolved in just one, were aberrations but reflected good play. That's not saying anyone played badly tonight but this assignment is a large one without a single solution. And some floors will go faster than others if you do try to "solve" them.I certainly expected the first floor to be over a lot faster.>>42920019Sorry anon, I usually like to have the chips fall where I perceived them to lay the first time.
