Stage 90: The Worst Monster of All....You are standing over the massive corpse of an oni-ogre crossbreed, something so tough it actually tried to get up and kill you after you'd killed it. A thought and a bit of power shorts out the cameras in the courtyard of the Misakimachi Education Center, and you turn your attention to the wards that are keeping a trio of young nogitsune-born from Kurosune clan and Reiha trapped inside. Matagama-no-Shitoki pulses hot in your hand as she tries to break the wards, but with a regretful feeling she cannot achieve your allies' freedom. You have another trick or two you can try, of course, but it's worth keeping in mind Akari is outside the building, sabotaging the command center van and probably knocking the soldiers outside the van unconscious. The only remaining human guards in the building are the three left in the meeting room, where one more spirit-child was detected by your inexpert use of Void Eyes. That leaves two more in the van. “Ryukusa-sama!” Reiha calls as she leaps off the rock, landing in the soft white sand of the large Zen garden. She runs over to the wooden edging surrounding the courtyard, and stops a foot away from it. The older nogitsune-born stand up on the other rock, but the youngest remains seated. “We can't get out, the sorceress who put us in here made it with unknown magics.” You kneel next to the wall, and can feel the nearly solid barrier of the ward at the edge of the courtyard, flush with the surface of the wood with it's red lines and angular writings. “How did she make the ward?”
>>41390758“I don't know, it was here when we were brought in by the giant oni-child. We were each given a necklace with similar markings, and the let us through the ward, but burned away as the ward touched them.” One way talismans, with similar writing. But that makes things relatively easy. “The sorceress....I think she's possessed, Ryukusa-sama. You have to be careful!” You consider how to break the wards, and ask casually, “Do you remember any of the other spirit-children that were here?” The young girl speaks up, her tail swishing slowly back and forth. “There was a mean one, who smelled dead and alive at the same time!” One of the young men nods. “I think it was like a half-vampire, half rokuro-kubi,” the other says, worried. You frown; that's a hell of a combination – a bakemono that can elongate its neck mixed with a blood-drinking corpse? That's going to be all sorts of trouble. “The sorceress' father, the officer in charge of all these men, has a bodyguard that is half oni, but he isn't anything else. He carries an aura with him, the aura of the Void, so be careful. He isn't a sorcerer though.” Reiha takes a step back. “You should leave us here and go fight your enemies, Ryukusa-sama! We will escape later!” It would be polite of her to offer, of course, except you're sure she actually means it. A sharp report of gunfire echoes through the halls, some distance from you, and upstairs for certain. Take her at her word and go help Akari. They're actually safer here, and you need to deal with the last remnants upstairs. Well, if the “words” make the magic, then the obvious solution is obvious. Make sure they have a clear escape route first, then break the wards. Contact Akari with the dead fellow's radio first, see if she's done yet.

[X] Well, if the “words” make the magic, then the obvious solution is obvious.[X] Make sure they have a clear escape route first, then break the wards. “Don't be ridiculous, that's not at all who I am. Can you take care of the others when I get you out?” You study the floor next to the wooden edge of the courtyard, and make a quick but sincere apology to the garden's kami, though it's too young to have one. Reiha looks startled. “Well, yes, I can, but isn't it more dangerous for you to stay here longer?” One of the young men picks up the preteen nogitsune-girl, and cradles her carefully. They're all in swimsuits and long tee-shirts, and they have geta on; undoubtedly grabbed opportunistically by the enemy. You hold your hand up as there are two more sharp reports from the gun; all four of the nogitsune's ears twitch. Then there is a wet pop, and no further gunfire. “Less dangerous than a moment ago,” you reply mildly. If it takes the humans so long to traverse a hallway at a run....then if you send these four that way....no, you'll have to check the stairwell. “Get ready to run. I'll meet you at the corner over there, in a moment.”“H...hai Ryukusa-sama!” Reiha quickly ushers the others down off the rock and off trough the Zen garden as you move your fastest to the stairwell. You go up a flight, then across the building, and down a flight, marking the locations of the enemy by hearing alone. Three left now; they're sticking together, good for them. Better for you of course. Zipping down the flight you head back to the courtyard, diagonally from where you were before. “All clear. When I break the wards, you have to make your way as quickly and quietly as possible to the emergency exit. It's down that hall, then the second right, and then an immediate left, and midway down that hall. No one will find you, no one will be in your way.”

>>41391485“Yes, Ryukusa-sama, I understand.” Carrying the little nogitsune-girl now, Reiha looks calm and collected as you smile and nod to her. The boys look nervous, but eager to be out of there; it's obvious the kind of clan they are isn't the same kind as you come from, but you knew that already. Kneeling next to the wooden wall, you apply the same thing that breaks talismans to this much bigger and foreign talisman. Of course, you didn't have to drive your arm through concrete and woodwork to break talismans, but it really is the same principle. Your left hand shatters stone, wood, and bursts apart some of the symbols written on the wood, as though it were all pine boards. The sense of the barrier winks out, and the quartet of nogitsune-born make a run for it as you stand up, your left forearm smoking slightly, your talons glimmering with residual magic. You have no doubt the sorceress knows her spell was destroyed, but you don't really care about that just yet. Void Eyes, then Fire Eyes – Water Eyes won't help you here. Meet Akari at the lobby next, she'd better be done by now! Take out those last four....uh, three enemies on the second floor. Kill all the electronics and the engine – disrupt all communications. Contact Akari through the Void, see how she's managing.

[X] Kill all the electronics and the engine – disrupt all communications.[XX] Void Eyes, then Fire Eyes – Water Eyes won't help you here.[XXX] Contact Akari through the Void, see how she's managing. You close your eyes, concentrating on the sense of Kiku-chan, her hot blood, her temper, the peace when you take control of her; when you open your eyes, the world is written in stark, simple beauty, the truth of the world easily observed. Each rune – you know they are runes now, ancient writings from another time and land – has a trace of the sorceress' nature in it, and they are quite explicit in their own meanings: Guard, Protect, Barrier, Forever, Power, and Spirit. But the traces of magic are strange twisted by something. You close your eyes, the strain of using the alien magic's leaving you with a momentary headache. A few seconds and your head clears. You listen for the enemy or your friends, but both are not close enough to be heard well yet. That means they're far enough away to risk Void Eyes. Closing your eyes and opening them again, the overwhelming movements of Chi – disrupted by the movements of people through the garden – make it very hard to track the fading magical energies. But the tracery of darkness, contrasting against the brightness of Shen and Chi screams alien to you, and it doesn't take a leap of logic to understand that 'alien' in this context isn't foreign or engineered, but spiritually alien. Youkai.
>>41392915Shaking your head you clear your eyes, and take a slow breath. You've burned a bit more Shen, leaving you no stronger or weaker; you'll be able to manage four tiers of Barrier Combat, which is only a problem if you have to cope with something really unusual. Like, you know, a sorceress possessed by a youkai. Crap. Double crap. Shit, blood, death, Yomi. Sighing softly, you reach out through the Void and the contact is instant. (Yes aniki?) Akari-niji-chan isn't surprised, nor is she nervous, simply accepting that you need to talk to her.(What is going on?) (I was pinned down by gunfire from the upper floor for a moment, long enough to allow the people in the van to leave and get into the lobby. The three outer guards are dead, and there are five people no in the lobby. I am keeping them pinned with kunai and darts right now but that is only going to hold them for a moment.) There is a pause, and then she continues. (I've made the elevators inoperable from here, but that won't keep them. They have only two guns left and the oni-child is making sure I can't hurt the woman and the colonel.) (The woman is a sorceress and has youkai taint to her, so be very careful.) You hesitated, realizing you're stuck with a hard choice. Just to make sure, you kill every vehicle in a quarter of a mile – and their electronics as well. Take out the trio above first – you can't let them regroup. Kill the head, the rest fall apart. Or, get really mad and begin a vendetta. Have Akari regroup with you and take out the trio above fast before you hunt down the others. ….you could take out the spirit-children in a Barrier, and leave the others to Akari.... See if Akari can hold them long enough for you to get some backup.
>>41392938[x] Take out the trio above first – you can't let them regroup.
>>41392938> Take out the trio above first – you can't let them regroup. It should be easier to deal with the Sorceress after we have dealt with anyone else who could interfere during the fight. Is the Colonel the half vampire or is he a normal human?

[X] Take out the trio above first – you can't let them regroup.Considering your options you decide that you need to end this quickly and effectively. You're not letting any of your enemies get out of this mess. (Niji-chan, I need you to keep them stonewalled for long enough for me to take out the people upstairs. Only a trio of humans and one spirit-child.) You're already on your way up as Akari sends back the impressions. (I can hold them for about six minutes as long as they do not try a rush with their remaining guns. If they do that I'll drop half the building on them.)(I'm not looking for survivors, you know. We just can't kill the humans with our powers without pissing off the kami.) You walk around the corner, and listen to them talking in the dark meeting room. They have flashlights on and the glow shifts and wavers as they move around. (I have to go my love. Call to me if things become difficult.) The warmth of her next sending is filled with the best memories and thoughts. (Hai, aniki.) You smile and jump against the wall opposite the door, sailing into the room at high speed. The female human looks up and you catch her by the neck as you slam into the wall; the male is turning his gun on you as your tail wraps out his neck. You slam him into the wall so hard he spatters teeth and blood across the wall in pretty artistic impressionistic crimson. The girl woman you simply take to the floor and choke her out quickly as you crouch and turn your full attention on the remaining....uh, target.
>>41394133He is looking at you from over the table, despite the fact he is on the far end of the table. His neck is currently about six feet long, and wavering back and forth slowly. His lanky black hair is oily and unpleasant, while his mouth is full of fangs. The man's eyes are bloodshot and he is slowly walking around the table. Dropping the unconscious woman, you slowly creep around the table extending your legs and drifting far to the side. His tongue is a length of red ribbon that he swipes his face and eyes with it. Water eyes wide open, you can see he's got a gun, still holstered. A man of hunger and alienated from even the strange people he has been made to serve and support. He is, however, very loyal to the colonel. A deep, personal loyalty that is beyond the duty of a soldier. But there is a sense of logical reasoning behind his thought processes. You don't think this man is going to surrender. Okay....that's kinda gross, man. ….uh, hi, you're particularly disturbing. Sorry, you' just not as cool as that gecko. Unsheathe the sword and gesture mildly for him to get on with it. Stand up slowly and lower the sword, study him more closely.

Dudes. That youkai probably has lightning-fast relfexes. Don't let him move.
Rokuro-kubi are apparently born from humans Karma
[XX] Unsheathe the sword and gesture mildly for him to get on with it.[XX] Stand up slowly and lower the sword, study him more closely. [X] Sorry, you' just not as cool as that gecko.[X] Okay....that's kinda gross, man.[+] Maybe find out why they're loyal? And that sheath is wood....“....okay, while, that was kind of cool, it was also really gross.” You unsheathe Ame-no-Omukade-no-Musume, and slowly rise, as his head slides back easily on the elongated neck. He chuckles, an odd liquid noise that comes from a hundred miles away, and eight feet of neck. You walk around the table, as does he, and you study his movements carefully. Gesturing with the blade mildly, you keep your grip on the lacquered hardwood sheath of your wakizashi firm. It happens like lightning; you're both inhumanly fast. It's not just his head and neck either – his body is just as fast and he seems to have the same spatial and physical awareness of location and movement as you do. That makes the fight terrifically exhilarating, taking up walls, table, floor, cabinets, and like you, he seems to take pride in not causing destruction or making a mess of the plants or decanter with ice water, nor does he step on or harm any of the humans. If he weren't an abomination you two could probably get along pretty well. His teeth snap and slice the air, as he tries to take pieces of your neck, arms, shoulders and tail; his arms reach for legs, thighs, lower back, and belly. It takes everything you got to stay out of his grasp, but it takes everything he has to try and grab you and not get slashed to ribbons. You both take a mutual pause, him clinging to an upper ceiling corner, you crouched on the floor opposite, breathing hard. He's winded as well, and he licks his teeth, watching you carefully. “Why so loyal?”
>>41395114It takes him a moment to process the question, and you give it to him. “He saved my life. Gave me his own blood when I was dying. Could have ordered anyone else to do it. He didn't.”You nod, respecting that. “Why are you going against your leaders?” he asks, his head swaying nearly hypnotically over the table. It might work better if you weren't a Water dragonette. “Because I don't want to see any of them hurt anymore.” He was honest, it is only fair. After all, you've been cheating this entire fight. He considers it, and then nods. No quarter, no surrender. The fight is explosive in the intensity, and you lash out with sword, tail, elbows, knees, boots. With no openings to exploit, you give him an opening, which he takes; he sinks his teeth into your right arm, and pulls back. A streamer of your blood follows, against your will, almost levitating as you continue the fight, sliding into his open mouth. But it's not the sword or the tail or your horns or legs he's watching out for. The sheath of your wakizashi splinters into sharp points as you crush it, and you plunge your left fist into his chest. He chokes and the blood falls to the ground in a spatter as he gasps for breath through lungs fillign with blood. His heart, pierced by a half dozen shards of wood, pumps jets of nearly black blood across the room. You pool it all into the corner as she collapses, and you land next to him, sinking Ame-no-Omukade-no-Musume into his upper throat, along side but not into his carotid artery or his trachea, pinning his head to the ground. “I would have liked you, I think,” you admit to him freely. He chokes, and nods a little, and then mouths something to you.
>>41395144'Watch out for the shadow.' You wait until he is fully dead, poison in his veins and his heart a shredded mess before contacting Akari once more. [XXX] Sneak into the lobby and get an overview of the situation.[X] Join Akari outside the lobby.[X] Talk first, let Akari catch her....wait that's stupid. Um, try and talk, see if you can find out anything. You draw the abomination's blood from its body and where it's spattered everywhere and make it follow you into the hallway. A restroom is easily found and you send all of it into the toilet, running water diluting it into powerlessness. Just in case – western vampire blood is supposed to have all sorts of weird magic properties, and without one of your more mystically inclined lovers with you, it's simply safer to dispose of it entirely, poison or no. You make your way back to the stairwell, and drop to the bottom silently, Wind and Water making the descent easy. (Aniki, I've taken out two of the other humans. They will live but not happily. Also, I believe the young woman who is the sorceress is the colonel's daughter.) That makes things interesting. You wonder how long she's been manipulating him now. (They're planning an escape into the northern stairwell.) Whoops. Well, it won't matter, you plan on meeting them in combat before they can leave the lobby. (I'm at the southern stairwell now. I'm going to sneak in and look around. I'll stay close to the ceiling.) Though you can feel her confusion, she agrees readily enough. Akari-niji-chan provides you with a distraction as you open the door by throwing a set of darts through the desks and counters the colonel and his people are currently sheltering behind. And by through, you mean through and through – bullets would do less damage than her darts are. Driving your talons into the wall you climb up the sheer surface by main strength, and when you get to the room, you take advantage of the recessed track lighting to hold yourself up by hands and tail and study the situation below.
>>41396335Colonel Blitzenberg is a surprisingly young man in his mid forties, dressed impeccably (well, at least for someone kneeling on the floor in a destroyed education center) and calmly reloading his pistol, a personalized Walther of some sort. Sitting demurely beside him is a slender, tall young woman – maybe taller than you – with white hair who seems mostly amused. Your skin crawls just looking at her, and you can't imagine how anyone can stand to be that close to her. A middle aged soldier in somewhat casual uniform and wearing a beret is ducking around the corner of the counter-desk they're behind and firing off several less-than-silenced shots out the non-existence window. They ricochet off of asphalt, of course, but it was valiant. The oni-child is a younger man, kneeling behind the colonel and his daughter (who bears no resemblance at all to him incidentally) and you can see his power surrounding him, a distortion of the light and objects around him. Water Eyes tells you that the Colonel is a man dedicated to his cause, and his cause is giving his country the opportunity to become the eminent military power in the world. He's so close, so very close, except for these damn dragonettes thwarting his allies as well as himself at every turn. But he can fix that – he's certain that by capturing Kiki-hime, he'll gain control over you and everyone under you. The sergeant is a man of duty, but he's hard pressed. The monsters he's been seeing and fighting shouldn't be real, and they definitely aren't supposed to be able to take out two dozen mercenaries without losses. He's frustrated, angry, and disgusted with himself.
The oni-child has been sent by Taisho Ryoga to protect the colonel and his daughter, and so far he's managed the improbably task well. He's finally up against someone who,m he can't just dazzle and trick and confound with illusion and power; he's lost face, and he's going to be forced into a suicidal act if he can't think of some way to save the colonel and his daughter. His fear of Taisho Ryoga is a visceral thing that makes the presence of the colonel's daughter a pleasantly spent afternoon in a bonsai garden tending one's trees. A sophisticate, this fellow. Then there's the colonel's daughter....who looks totally human, save for her paleness and white hair. Except the very shadows crawl around her, and she is looking directly at you. “She's here, father,” she says in perfect Japanese. Nice of her, really. You drop to the floor as Colonel Friedrich Blitzenberg points his pistol at you, and the oni tuns and half rises, his white kimono fluttering at the edges. You can see a strange dark halo about him, and his eyes narrow when he sees you. Akari remain hidden, but she's no longer behind the rubble – she's somewhere under ground, waiting for a signal. You let go and drop to the floor, landing lightly on your feet, wakizashi held out away from your leg, blade down. “So, we meet at last, Colonel. Are you ready to die?” “Greetings. I am Ryuu Ryukusa, head of Clan Ryuu.” “You have been the cause of much distress, Mr. Mur – wait, that was that movie. Anyways, yes, I'm here.” Bow politely, say nothing, wait to be spoken to. “My sincere apologies for making you wait, gentlemen, miss. The creatures you've created are....resilient.”

>>41397499Now now anon, those pussycats can take care of themselves I'm sure.
>>41397253Moisture penetration is a very important part of gardening. Watering leafy plants from above can easily result in a ring of damp earth surrounding the plant rather than soaking directly into the roots, as well as causing more water to be lost as evaporation from the leaves. Fight drought and save water by installing a dripline in your garden to release water directly where the plant needs it with no waste or runoff. You can make one yourself very easily with a hose, a knife, and a small aperture washer to reduce line pressure.Simply lay the hose out in your garden ~1-2" away from the stems of the plants you wish to water and cut small holes, about 1/2" long, in the line near each stem at about 1" intervals. Make sure to widen them slightly so they don't press themselves closed, but not too much; giving the knife a little wiggle ought to be enough. Place the washer inside the spigot fitting at the feed end; this will reduce water flow and pressure to avoid waste and soggy ground. Cap the other end of the hose and turn the water on. The flow should be enough to bead on the gaps immediately but not enough to leave the surface of the hose. You may need to try washers with wider or smaller openings to get the pressure right, depending on your home's pipe pressure and the length or curvature of your hose, or to meet the water needs of your particular garden.Fuck I forgot the pun.
>>41397508I think two centuries of experience and our other Eyes will give us a bit more information, although we may have gotten a basic measure of him (it's also been a LONG time since that happened, heck, I only joined during our fight with Yui).
>>41397613O-oh my!Keep going anon...
>>41397613You had it for the first sentence, possibly the second as well. We'll have you using Clan Ryuu gardening techniques like a pro in a few threads.
[+] Greetings and apologies, I'm your resident mind reader. You take note of the female soldier who looks like she is more buff and bigger than Er Yin is, her dark skin indicating her country of origin easily enough. She's unconscious, fallen between the two counters that serve as registration and welcoming areas. A makeshift tourniquet is keeping her from bleeding to death as she lays passed out in her own blood; Akari took her hand off with a kunai. It says something about her that she managed to stay conscious after having her hand torn off by blunt force trauma inflicted at high speed. The brass casing and suppressor-equipped machine gun tells you exactly why she had to lose a hand. The other soldier she took out was a young man, who is currently keeping pressure on a wad of bloody jacket from the gut-wound Akari inflicted on him. Another kunai hit; the heavy, diamond-shaped darts thrown with enough force to tear through human flesh and bone. She clearly pulled that shot, since the kunai is on the ground next o him, and he's grimacing as he staunches the bleeding. If you or Akari get close enough, he's going to make a sacrifice play, but for now, all he can do is wait. He's on the front side of the counters, rather than hiding behind them. Loyal and indoctrinated, he'll sacrifice his life for the colonel. He's got a massive crush on the man's daughter. But Miss Blitzenberg....she's a true monster. Her mindset is the worst parts of human mixed with the most alien of spirits a youkai. But not just any youkai. It was one of the accursed, a youkai-child born of a woman who starved and who grew a second mouth to fill the aching void of hunger: futakuchi-onna, the two-mouthed woman. And that hunger has become a different, twisted kind of hunger with human influence and the machinations of these fools who had no idea what they were playing with. You're not sure what the other half must be - unless she uses her sorcery to sustain herself away from Japan.
>>41397613/diy/ what are you doing here.
>>41397703The mere thought provides an answer, Water Eyes seeing the truth immediately: she sustains herself with her second mouth, of course. By consuming spirit children from wherever she is, she can sustain herself indefinitely anywhere. ~And her father doesn't know!~Akari slides up through the polished granite flooring, to kneel behind you silently, crouched in the manner of a warrior awaiting her orders. She barely mouths the word, but you feel the breathy question. “Do you see it, aniki?”You gesture slightly with your left hand, letting her know you're aware of what she is warning you about. Taking a step forward, you look at the remaining four enemies, and they are alert, wary, and just a touch worried about their survival – with the exception of the colonel's daughter. She cannot feel fear. “I really must apologize for being late; the warriors you've created are incredibly difficult to dispatch. Your soldiers tried their best, but they were outmatched from the start, sergeant, but we did try to leave them alive – we might be only half human, but we aren't monsters. I recommend a change of jobs.” He hides his shock of fear and worry at your mindreading abilities with an expletive and grit teeth. Turning your attention to Taisho's man, you incline your head. “You've done well, obfuscating the colonel's whereabouts and keeping them from being discovered. I doubt they understand just how successful you were. I would have liked working with you, under different circumstances.” the oni-child's eyes narrow. “She's not reading out minds – she's a profiler, capable of reading body language and subtle clues to determine things about us.” His voice is clear and calm, and he shifts his hands under his sleeves – not collecting charms or ofuda, but doing something else, something strange.
>>41397623Maybe, but we got a pretty good read the first time. Which was after we met Yui, remember he's working for, and possibly deceiving, our father-in-law.
>>41397725“As I said, undervalued for your skills; sadly, you are correct – your skills are no logner going to avail you in my presence and that of my niji-chan.” He blinks at your use of the word, and Akari grins to herself, though she says nothing. “And not least in any way, greetings to you Colonel Friedrick Blitzenberg, late of the European Union; we finally meet. I am Ryuu Ryukuza, Kumatori Kiki's shinobi. I am afraid attempting to use Kiki-hime against me would have ended very badly for you and anyone who attempted it. Sadly, I am afraid that the situation has come to an end. I can no longer allow you to cause my people any further harm, especially give then foolish lengths you've gone to so far. Your dealings with Taisho Ryoga and Kaga Kunito must end here.”“And how do you propose to stop them? Killing me will cause an international incident, as I'm sure you are aware. There are also matters of economy and politics outside of the military to be concerned about. You've proven that you are perfectly capable of defeating my special soldiers; obviously despite Taisho Ryoga's insistence, they're sub-par.” Now that he's sure you're pulling some trickery as opposed to knowing what you claim to know – a dangerous mistake on his part – his self-assurance is back and he stands up, still pointing his gun at you. At this range you can avoid a bullet though. Two at once from two different guns might be harder, but Water Eyes will help.
>>41397725“It seems, as a result, we are at an impasse. You can't risk the turmoil that my death will cause your government. And I doubt you really want to cause your own people so much trouble, both the Japanese and your other kinds of people.” Ah, he's using information from a dossier he's read on you, provided at great cost. He believes he's got you figured out. “If we can't use Kumatori Kiki, we'll simply have to let her go as a lost resource.” The sergeant and the oni-child haven't stood, both preparing to turn it into a fight: one using guns, the other his powers. “there will be others in time, I'm sure. A few more years will make no difference.”Holstering his pistol he helps his daughter up, turning his back almost to you entirely. I am afraid you've misunderstood....by an end, I meant your end. Sorry, but that isn't acceptable....you see, the diplomatic incident won't even matter. Unfortunately, you haven't the foggiest idea of what you've done here....you can't be allowed to live. [XXX] Sorry, but that isn't acceptable....you see, the diplomatic incident won't even matter.[XXX] Unfortunately, you haven't the foggiest idea of what you've done here....you can't be allowed to live.[XX] Do you really think it is that easy, Colonel Blitzenberg?[+] Innuendo, suggestive hints, and salient hints of proper authority. You tilt your head, looking at him with a smile. That smile makes the sergeant raise his own pistol – a much heavier and deadlier Desert Eagle than the simple Walther the colonel uses – but the colonel gestures for him to hold his fire – much to the sergeant's consternation. The oni-child stands as well, his hands hidden inside his sleeves, tightly clenched and ready to throw power around. “My dear Colonel Blitzenberg....it simply isn't that easy for either of us.”“Many apologies, but a diplomatic incident I cause here won't matter in mere months – perhaps even weeks. You and your people have set into motions things you're not even aware of.” Straightening up, you gesture to Akari. “He can see us as we truly are, can't he?”“Yes, aniki, and so can the sergeant.” She glances at – or rather, through – the counter, with it's lovely marble sides most likely transparent as glass to her.“Despite that, you still haven't seen the repercussions, or even the immediate results of what you've done, Colonel. I'm certain your shinobi has realized it, even if you haven't.” The oni-child in question narrows his eyes at you, and you can see his tension increase tenfold. “Yes, he understands what you've lost sight of Colonel Blitzenberg. You-”
>>41399103The soft clock of the grenade being prepared is enough and you make a simple gesture to Akari, a mere tail-twitch. She hurls a kunai so hard through the marble sheathing of the counter that it punches a hole clean through the counter-front and the man behind it and the grenade he tried to ignite. The scattered fragments don't even explode – it simply sizzles and sparks and pops, glittering fire strewn across the floor. As blood pools from behind the counter. You flick a bean at the sergeant, before he can aim properly, taking his eye and killing him instantly as the tiny seed bounces around inside his skull before he can shoot Akari. The colonel is shocked and his daughter smiles broadly, looking at you with wonder in her eyes. “As I was saying, you can't be allowed to live through this, because your spectacular ignorance of why things work the way they do has caused enough damage to the world.” You sigh and and flip your wakizashi over and around, hiding the blade behind your arm and your arm behind your back. “But perhaps that isn't enough for you.”You take a deep, slow breath. Since he is able to see your true forms, he isn't human enough to be excluded from a Barrier. And that means....You and Matagama-no-shitoki slam a Barrier around the entirety of the building, and a good half mile beyond it as well. Akari doesn't hesitate – the sound of her breastbone cracking and the liquid rush of her gleaming jade Pearl rising to her chest is immediate. You can hear the susurration of her scales forming and the sound of her skull grinding as her horns lengthen to almost six inches. You don't need to do that now – this form is the only form you possess, outside of the single most deadly Barrier Technique you have. Not that it isn't impressive enough, your hair flowing behind you and your tail writhing slowly.
“As you can see, I've been forced to advance far further than I was intended by everyone who tried to control me. Sadly, I don't think even that will be enough to leave me unscathed in the face of your most horrific creation.” Both the oni-child and the Colonel are backing away from Miss Blitzenberg. She smiles coyly at you, and looks at you calmly, her hair lengthening and turning into an inky darkness, eyes opening throughout its mass. Liquid noises come from beneath her silken dress, and her hands twitch spasmodically. “....that really is too bad....I was hoping to wait to reveal my true form to daddy and Mankatso.” She steps forward as her hair slides along the floor, a shadow of living darkness. “But I was getting terribly hungry....I suppose the other ones you killed would have worked, but I always prefer fresh food.” “Melinda....” The colonel's breathy word is lost in his confusion and awe. Akari shivers, ever so slightly, and you study Mankatso, whose robes have become dark, Ghost Fire lanterns appearing around him and a shifting, wavering aura of his hands in different positions and performing different actions surrounding him like a strange nimbus. He, on the other hand, is terrified of what he's now seeing. Looks like he wasn't quite as observant as he thought – of maybe he just didn't realize the ~scope~ of what his masters had done. “While I don't generally mind eating and being eaten, being eaten isn't actually meant to be taken literally, Miss Blitzenberg.” You lash your tail slowly, trying to decide what the hell you're going to use against this....this THING. “....aniki, please,” mutters a blushing Akari behind you. “Right, sorry!” you float up a few feet, and take a slow, deep breath, lightning, fire and ice shimmering about you. “....shall we begin?”>To be Continued....

>>41399251Thanks for running. Glad you decided to run to night.
>>41399251Thanks for writing
I am glad you are all enjoying it.
>>41399414Was wondering if you could please post some descriptions of the main cast sometime. I am doing some fanart and checking thru each old thread for a little detail or two is not very effective. Plus if would help some of the newer readers to have a better idea of the characters.
>>41399526I can do that, yes. I really did base them off of the found art though, otherwise keeping the descriptions somewhat vague so the players could imagine them as they wish.
>>41399526>>41399612Mind you, not tonight. I'm only up this late because.
>>41399612Was working based off the character images you have used so far so i guess its not too far off.
>>41399634Its fine whenever you have time. And thanks for running this late. Its was nice to have a bit of a change of pace with the last couple of enemy encounters. But i guess we are in for a bit of a bigger fight friday.
>>41399716Ryukuza IS effective at her job. Considerignt he scope of her pervious enemies, I thought the players would like a reminder of what normal enemies are like for her now. There really is no comparison for humans outside of specially trained humans (Akari took out their only specially trained one by de-handing her).
>>41399776I am Surprised it did not turn into a Disarming joke. I am glad we are getting the Colonel out of the picture feels like that might make the story a little bit more focused. Not that having a hundred thing to do was not fun or anything.
>>41399894It'd be nice to thin the pack of her enemies so Ryukusa's schedule isn't so packed. >>41399776Thank you for running, XS. An inner-monologue about Ryukusa considering how much she had advanced based in how quickly she took down the first crossbreed when she was fighting him probably would have shown that.
How is he saying we wouldn't dare the celestial diplomatic incident if we killed him when what he's done (crossbreeding Japanese mythologic creatures with Western monsters) is far worse?
>>41402297Hell if I know. He didn't even crossbreed sane spirit children, like a dragonette with a nephilim. He specifically sought out the evil and crazy types and started smashing them together at random.
>>41402297No, he's saying we'd spark a mundane diplomatic incident. Which we wouldn't care about to begin with because he's interfering in the spiritual health of Japan. And telling the Executioner she can't do anything about it.
>>41402364I would say celestial crossbreeding is a no-no regardless of who or what's involved. The last two times resulted in the destruction of the native pantheons.
>>41403996Nordic and Aztec.
>>41401934Ryukusa doesn't have that much ego though.>>41402364Because obviously the dangerous ones make better warriors!
>>41405683>EgoYou have more experience then me in this, I just think she might have remarked that it's somewhat surreal just to cut through people who would have been a challenge for her a month ago like the Grass Cutting Blade through spirit children.>Obviously the only danger is to our enemiesAnd I just stopped caring about the General.
>>41405683Ego as in Pride/Sense of Self/Force of Personality or Ego as in Pride/Arrogance/Self-centeredness or Ego as in the QM?
>>41406376Pride. Rykusa has never been truly aware of how unique or effective a lot of her abilities are even as a child, and she also tends to be goal oriented during combat as a rule. In her thinking, she did exactly as she expected to do, nothing more or less, even though someone like Akari or Kiku might have had serious trouble with those fights. She has a strong but stable sense of self and her force of personality is strong, but but those aren't things she is aware of outside of "I can win in any battle with enough time and tools," which she believes is true of anyone who has the skills she has. It's part of what makes her charming to certain kohai.
>>41406689Good to know. Even though the two types are very interrelated (having a lot of one tends to lead to more of the other and vice versa) they are still different and can be in different proportions.Seems that Ryukusa is more on the humble and ignorant side of things which is good for being a more relatable character. Of course one of the good things about egos that are heavy on both sides is that they are very resistant to mental manipulation psychological manipulation on the other hand is on a case by case basis. Are any of Inari's incarnations possessed of a stronger than usual ego?
>>41406816If you mean, Ryukusa's family, then yes, there is one who has a very strong ego, and another who has a very strong sense of self, and one servant with a lot of pride. The others have had it abused or trained out of them, or are old enough to have lost the capacity for it.
>>41407760>. The others have had it abused or trained out of them, or are old enough to have lost the capacity for it.Hello sadness my old friend...
We are gonna fight Ozoi basically .She does seem a bit lovecraftian to me . ANy connections to that or is she another of the Colonel's experiments ?
>>41408847Ozoi just represents the best image of the creature that is an upgraded rokurokubi. Just another of the Hojo Groups' and the colonel's creations.
>>41408847>>41409436Which is not to say there isn't anything non-Lovecraftian about a woman who has a second mouth created by an opening in her skull that uses her hair to feed itself her food.
