>party DMPC was the BBEG the entire time
IT WAS A RUSE
>> DMPC 1^'s the party forever.>> get tired of DMPC's bullshit>> try to murder DMPC.>> DMPC TPKs your group.>> DM gets mad at you for attacking his special snowflake

>String of DMPC's return as a band of antagonists>Turns what the party did against them
>>41298468>DMPC is the chosen one to save the world.
I bet none of you even know what a DMPC is.I bet you're so retarded that you actually think that any NPC who accompanies the party for any reason for a prolonged period of time is a DMPC.
>You were the BBEG>You didn't even know it until the revealThat was a weird fucking moment.Perfect, but weird.
>>41300804Absolutely happened with the kid who DM'd for us... in middle school.
>>41298468Literally the worst shit you can ever put up with. The second campaign I ever joined had the following.> DMPC is Ahri from League of Legends> No, not even fucking kidding. It's that stupid fox-girl.> Somehow a god, basically just demands the party of various things.> Makes the paladin fall for not worshipping her> Throws the rogue into a cell for also not worshipping her.> DM hits on my 14 year old sister, and has to ask if she's single. Fucker's like 45 years old.
>>41300933Well... I mean, if you wanna get literal about it, all NPCs are DMPCs...That's not quite what this means tho.
>DM has special snowflake vampire DMPC>He pings as evil to my paladin>DM gets mad when I smite his ass
>>41301044Did you call the cops on his ass? Because I would've fucking glassed him right then and there.
>DM tailors campaign around his special snowflake DMPC>Literally a fucking dark elf paladin whose silver locks of hair and lithe but muscular build were described in great detail>Which he optimized so he could be better at fighting than any of us>Had conversations with himself constantly, other NPCs always addressed him and had business with him>Forced to accept him as the "leader">Rolled all diplomacy rolls and always knew what to say and do to move the plot forward>Got all the good loot>Had fucking tavern wenches swoon over him and have sex with him (Thankfully he faded it to black)>Had a fucking "intellectual" debate with the main villain Either he really wanted to play or he thought we were fucking braindead.
>>41301044>being so Beta to let a 45 year old man hit on your underage kinNow, i never use the term Beta really as i don't believe in somebody being an alpha, but this is actually relevant here. A guy that old hits on your sister, you outright tell him "fuck off" and if he refuses you show him the god damn door even if you have to throw him out.I don't care what level of neckbeard and terrified nerd you are, you handle that shit not bitch about it on /tg/
>Party is teleported to some other dimension absolutely brimming with monsters Campaign was meatgrindy af>Only constant is npc that inexplicably shows up on the other side of whatever horrible monster we've just killed>Always out of reach, always saying cryptic shit and giving non-answers to questions, vaguely threatening>Decide enough is enough and try to magic her down to get a straight damn answer>DM says nope>NPC eventually turns, and surprise surprise, it was an avatar of the goddess of... Come to think of it he never said. Just "the goddes">has 30+ in every stat, high level cleric spells, some of them homebrewed, and magic items that I'm sure he also made up>TPK>DM bullshits some divine interventionAnd no fun was had that day
The only DMPC we aever had was a Kobold who became our parties mascot, he was so dumb that when one of us accidentially hit another with an arrow and blamed him, only the kobold and the actual victim belived him
I keep a few around in a space game I run in a homebrew setting but they mostly fill rolls the PCs didn't take and hang around on the spaceship. i let the PCs direct them in combat.
>party takes BBEG's place
>campaign has 2 bbegs
>>41300901>DMPC is the chosen one to save the world.>DMPC gets murdered by GM fiat
>>41301857>dm has 2 dmpcs>party has 2 drummers
>>41301883I laughed harder than i should have at this
>>41301549That isn't a DMPC. That is just an NPC
>>41298468Okay, question /tg/. The current campaign I'm running has had a few NPCs that hang with the party. The first was this Dwarf sergeant, absolute bro-tier. He died in a fight with a very strong Orc death cult. He was so liked one of my players, his back-up character is the Dwarf's cousin. Now they're buddies with this Wood-Elf spellsword who is forming a military coalition to reclaim a bunch of land from the Drow. Is the Wood Elf a DMPC? He's a bit stronger than the other party members, and does plenty of important stuff, but he nevers hogs the story, and 3/4 of the players like him. Did I accidentally make a DMPC /tg/? And if I did, am I doing something wrong?
>>41302427Are your players having fun?If Y: All is well, stay the course. If N: Stop and figure out why they aren't having fun, and then figure out how that can be dealt with.
>>41301044Motherfucker, you'd better tell me you beat him into a bloody pulp after hitting on your little sister.
>>41302427>he nevers hogs the story, and 3/4 of the players like himYou're fine.
>>41302427>3/4 of the players like himDude you could have made a kawaii kitsune samurai goddess who is the chosen one and if 3/4 of the players still like them and enjoy it that's a win
>DM uses the BBEG as a mouthpiece for his own political beliefs
>DM has a DMPC that always shows up when we fight because he throws bullshit high foes at us and he wanted it to get involved>Never did, because with tactics and obscene fortune, we slapped everything down>start getting pissed off at it>party members council me to remain calm, ignore it until it engages us, otherwise it matters not>we ignore the DMPC outright, even when it tries to talk to us>find out later it's some level 60 kobold diety or some shit>don't give a fuck, we are too busy building a country
>>41305403Fucking hell. This happened at a game last year:>GM is transgender>GM turns a friend into a female version of himself >he complains, party wizard tries to fix it, GM negates it>GM lectures us about transgenderism>we get tired of his bullshit and leave>Annoys us over whatsapp for monthsWe were transphobic, apparently
>Party finds an ad on a message board about a young noble looking for help with a problem.>Party goes to look into this and see what kind of reward they can get out of him.>Reveals he was visited by a palace mystic who told him his is secretly the rightful heir to the thrown and a demi god by bloodline.>It is his destiny to save to world from the god wizard Humberchules, but first he must go on a mystical journey to embrace his half demon roots.>"I really don't want to be the chosen one. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with this kind of responsibility. Is there some way I can hire you guys to take care of this destiny thing for me?"
>>41306047Much adventure later.>Skinny nobleman has been blessed with magical powers beyond compare but keeps shying away to hide when the bar wenches try to hit on him.At the gates of the 3rd realm of Humberchules:>The party is pushing him through a portal they need to explore.>"Guys, I said I don't want to be the chosen one."A grand festival in the brave nobelman's honor is being held over the victory of his rag tag band of misfits and his own honor against the vile masses of the turned half demon army form the west.>"Can I go home yet?"
>>41300804I surely hope you will never, ever met a DM like this. Your innocence must not be spoiled.
>Party member makes a Paladin/Summoner who hates undead>BBEG was designed as a Paladin/Summoner who hates undead>BBEG invites player to join him in killing lots of undead>Player agreesIm still waiting to see what will happen when the BBEG actually confronts the party
>>41305661>Letting a mentally ill person GM for youI mean, letting a schizo DM might be funny, but that's the exception to the rule. DMing generally requires sanity and mental health.
>>41306476Most dm's tend to lack both after running sessions for long enough.
>>41306520Though generally that can be mitigated by supplying them with plentiful free food, drink and blowjobs.
>>41301044> DM hits on my 14 year old sister, and has to ask if she's single. Fucker's like 45 years old. There better have been cops or a beatdown involved or I mad
>>41301044>>41298468It's not true. This kind of situation could work out fine. For example the party is playing as Devils that were summoned by the DMPC to be his army. The DMPC is lower level but has some kind of hold on them. It's pretty obvious that he's the BBEG from the start. He's definitely a DMPC since he adventures full time with the party, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good character or even stuff like comic relief. An incompetent CN summoner leading around a bunch of pure LE beings as an army and fucking up at every turn.Maybe add a pixie paladin with an abysmal wisdom score to the group and you're all set.
>>41298468>DMPC was actually good. >Nobody complained about him >Campaign is still ongoingI don't know why the hate for DMPCs but they're fine in my book.
>>41307668I guess it's a magnifying effect for bad (mostly immature, I guess) GMs. I've played alongside many DMPCs that were just fine too, but I can imagine a GM who's trying to shove his dick down people's throats alread would become even more insufferable when he has an outlet to spew his nonsense from right in the party
>>41307668Because using them is one of the lamest things a DM can do.
>>41307765The current one in my group is not "lame". He's a human alchemist focused on creating the panacea. A cure for all mortal and magical pains. In his testing phases we get to try out some cool random potion effects like growing an extra pair of arms on the rogue or the sorcerer turning blue for a week. He is also fairly combat capable as his bombs do a moderate amount of damage.
>>41307919Maybe his DMPC is not lame. But your DM is.
>>41298468>Party decides they need someone to drive the loot wagons and watch them while they're in crypts and/or caves.>Grab random half-drunk farmhand at the tavern.>Play him as a wisecracking good ol' boy with simplistic folksy wisdom.>They ask his opinion constantly when at camp or traveling.>The cleric heals him back from negative hp after they found him amid thieving Kobold corpses.>"Shouldn't he get experience or something?">Well, sure I guess.>"And a half-share of loot. Guy deserves more than a couple silver a day after that.">Jack Jackson becomes the richest peasant in recent history driving a few wagons and eventually hiring a staff to make his job easier.>Gradually the party has a small army at their back.>They become reverse-gypsies, towns trade a temporary uptick in barfights for an overall reduction in crime and a ton of new money everywhere in the economy when they visit.
>>41308397That's beautiful, anon. Very rarely have I heard any good PC/DMPC characters on this board. I'd love to hear any stories you or someone has while I'm throwing darts at a wall (I.e. World-building.)
>>41308397... and now everytime they leave a place, it will be destroyed by its rampant inflation.
>>41308293Well that's, like, your opinion man.
>>41308738Merchants would flood in to grab the cash in exchange for various things. The townsfolk now have access to goods they normally never see and possess the means to buy them. The rest sit on the money, new customers for the bank. Gold-based currencies aren't nearly as fragile as fiat currencies where you have to rip out your hair about monetary velocity.Even in our modern ethereal economy, Jeb Bumblefuck winning the lottery doesn't wreck Hicksville.
>>41305661>trans person gets into my circle of friends>only ever talks about being fucking trans
>>41311163>Trans person get's into MY game group>Total brosis, never brings up trans, just talks about whatever the group is talking about>10/10 roleplayer, works harder to be asset to the party than half the others. My only complaint is that she can't show up anywhere near as much as I'd like, as her job has her working on the days we do the RP.
>>41311843I've had two trannies, going in different directions. M2F was the worst person ever, F2M was one of the best players I've ever had.
>>41301044This isn't the first time I've heard this story
>>41311843>>41312167Had a few tans people in games.1 was super annoying (and eventually left out when the public game when private) (MtF)3 were pretty awesome and chill. (2 FtM, 1 MtF)
>>41312700Yeah. SHE is an M2F, and a damned chill person to be around. You got a problem with that, hoss?
>guy plays a lot awkward autists with magic due to him taking their social skills and just the way he plays them>eventually it comes time for him to DM again>old PC is now central to the plot in some way and is now charming and subtle with none of the autism>also gets a huge power boostHis campaigns are pretty solid if a bit combat heavy, and the rest of the group doesn't seem to mind, so I just quietly simmer.
>>41302427From what I can tell, the big thing is that this PC and NPC/DMPC relation is consensual for the PCs.The party could have 12 NPCs that follow them around, but if it happened in an organic way with the PCs then everything is cool.
>>41312908Oh I've heard this one. Apparently, this guy did some one-on-one with the DM, with lots of world building and higher level stuff, then a NPC group begins fucking everything up. Eventually the DM invites the guy to a group session with some other people, who turn out to be the group of "NPC heros" ruining his world. DM made him the BBEG for that group, and this was the final showdown or something. don't remember how it went.
>>41313260I imagine it was the story of the lich who taught people how to use necromancy to improve their living situations, only to have the adventuring party tear through all the places he'd visited and smite everything in sight.
>>41312700ebin meme friend :^)
>>41312802No, HE found a surgeon unethical enough to indulge the patient's delusions in a manner that is not possible to effectively reverse. You're not supposed to indulge a psychosis at all, it validates and reinforces their illness, complicating proper treatment. You're not only fucking over the unfortunate patient, you're fucking over everyone who has to treat them after you.
>>41315505Or that surgeon could have gotten fired if he refused to do the surgery. And then not be able to find a job for shit because every new job he applies to will find out he got fired for refusing treatment (and yes, that is exactly how it will be worded if his chief was dickish enough to fire him for saying no).
>>41315561THAT'S going on now? Shit. Get ready to start getting taxed for the grafting of cat ears and wolf dicks, the transpecies are next up to bat for psychosis civil rights.
>>41315561That would be seriously fucked up. I don't care if someone threatened to sue me unless I ruined their life, I won't do it. I would make an analogy involving other amputations like I have in the past, but now there's actually a transable movement so it's no longer a good half-joke strawman because it fucking came true.
>>41315754Transable?>1 google laterI could have sworn that was supposed to be categorized as a severe mental condition because it meant you wanted to harm yourself.Fuck this society.
>>41309122Of the Tuscaloosa Bumblefucks?
>>41315914Mutilation (no matter how carefully done) to indulge in a psychological delusion is harm in the first place. I took a fucking oath and I take it seriously. At least I'm not in the surgery business. But if someone litigious enough comes to me for the hormone treatments for that purpose I might have to go back to fixing machinery instead of people.
>>41311163This, god damn.I didn't give a shit about trans people until I had to deal with one. Now I just hope they're all not as annoying as this one.
>>41315505What about the part where attempts to treat the psychosis tends to end up with suicide and misery?
I made a dmpc once, a near constantly drunk dwarf with dozens of stories that ended with him banging the kings daughter. Then the party found out he was the kings son and had deserted his dwarf hold in its time of greatest need to squander his wealth on booze. They dragged him back to the hold to face his sister (now a queen). Be got sentenced to attack the nearby orcish camp alone.Should I kill him off? Did I make a good DMPC?
>>41298468aint nothing wrong with that
>>41316499All depends on if the players like him, Anon.
>>41316499He deserves to die.
>>41305661I've had experiences with trannies both before they were actually trannies and after1. Was that weird guy before cutting his dick off, and from what I can tell continues to be that weird guy as a girl. Dragonloli DMPCs trying to hook up with players, ignored the game's rules, the works. All in all, not actually a bad DM, despite the above. His crazyness was at least entertaining. 2. The kind of tranny who you can't say anything remotely offensive around ever or it breaks out crying. Had a fetish for guys being pregnant, and tried to write it into every one of his characters. Group split apart out of awkwardness.
>>41316499Should have him miraculously survive the fight, and basically solo the camp, and then have him die by drinking himself to death in the following celebration.
>>41316528That the Mule?
Is it a DMPC if the party seeks them out?> Play each hireling as a guy who thinks he's the protagonist in his own story> "Folk hero" blond fighter gets his head ripped off by a ghast> The elegant Lady Roth claws her eyes out in horror upon seeing the ghast> Alys the Ranger quits when they get back to town and decides to be a baker because she's fed up with this shit> Party gets to higher levels, starts encountering NPCs and PCs from the last campaign who've leveled up and are on their own missions now> NPCs are less interested in gold and more interested in favors> Party hires guy inspired by those Herpex commercials from Britanick and Enjolras from Les Mis> He doesn't give a shit about their problems and keeps telling them to hurry up so he can move on to his mission> Party hasn't realized they're being treated the way they treat NPCs
>>41307668I find as a DM they split your focus between being a DM and a PC. I tried having a DMPC a couple of times but it just never really worked cause it felt like anytime I took action as the DMPC it was railroading since I knew everything already even if I wasnt trying to railroad. As a player the DMPCs I've had have been meh really. Nothing special, didnt add, didnt take anything.Nowadays if I have to fill up a party with extra characters I go with som NPCs that tag along with some backstory and opinions but dont take any action really. And it's always at least 2 NPCs, otherwise it might accidentally turn into a DMPC.

>disliking trans peopleWhy?
>>41323503Different ideological or philosophical standpoints on sexuality and gender. Some people just think they're gross, these people you can just ignore. Some people think they're abominations in the eyes of God, you can ignore these too. Some people think they're universally crazy and awful, this may be due to hearsay or actual heuristic contact with genuinely crazy and awful trans-persons, these people are best treated with a degree of cautious understanding, like any other person who, through experience has developed a bad impression of a group of people. Then there are those who think trans-people put too much importance on percieved sex, to the extent that they're willing to undergo invasive, and often imperfect surgical procedures, despite allegedly "trans"-cending the dichotomy of the sexes: These people may have something of a point, but you're under no obligation to agree with them.
>>41323503I don't care if they're tranniesI just can't stand their attitudes. Most are extremely rude and very abrasive.

Since I've never had a problem with the one Trans Person I played with:Not sure if my GM is being That DM with his DMPCs or if they're just NPCs. He currently is GMing 3 parties comprised of 3 players in a Star Wars FFG game... Every party has a DMPC, who he says he tailored to fill the "gaps" the parties had.> One party is really combat capable, so their DMPC is an inquisitive force healer who just pays for a room on the ship and heals the party when they come back and make lore checks for them. Probably the least DMPC of his 3.> The 2nd party's DMPC is a "lawful good" saber tank, who just is hyper defensive and the defacto leader of the party since he's the glue holding the party together since the bounty hunters player keeps threatening to leave the party for "story reasons". Possibly the worst offender, but I think the bounty hunter is being a dick.>Third DMPC is another Saber Monkey who's more offensive, and is generally the one who gets the party into trouble, but makes up for it by saving their butts from the fire. He's not the party lead, and is just a useful guy the party has kept around since he is generally speaking useful despite his hit tempered quirks. Sorta the middle ground between the two.
>>41315561I would be shocked if tye surgeon would be fired for refusing to go through with it.It is not "life saving," despite what some activista may tell you. To the medical profession, it is only lifesaving if it preasents a clear and undeniable risk to continued bodily function (if we don't go in, your heart will fucking stop working, or your kidneys will shut down). If the doctor feels the client isn't ready for a non-life saving procedure, they can turn them down.
>>41315505>implying all delusions are the sameWhy don't you leave the brain science to the professionals, armchair scalpeljockey.
>DMPC is an extremely lazy do nothing NEET who happens to be "the chosen one">Party are the "bodyguards" hired by the mysterious order/wizards coven/rightful King to protect him, knowing full well they fucked up with raising the chosen one>the party has to escort him everywhere, keep him out of trouble and basically do all the hard work, earn all the cool trophies, while somehow everyone thinks the DMPC did it>players get given the option of joing in the BBEG and killing the DMPC if they want>Or players fulfill the prophecy, and let the "chosen one" take up the horrible duty of being sealed with the evil into wherever, or put him on the throne and use him as a puppet king for their own desireswould that be a satisfying enough switch up of the DMPC tropes?
Are DMPCs always a bad thing? My groups are a tad small so run one who basically just does combat and occasionally tosses out a hint when the PCs are stuck.
>>41306257I'm sure the twist will be the undead were sentient and non-hostile, and the BBEG tricked him into killing what were essentially innocents. It comes up more often than you'd think.
>>41325335Depends on the GM, really. Its really one of those cases of people talking/remembering the bad points and forgetting/ignoring the good or okay points of a subject. Not all DMPCs are bad, its just that the bad ones are pretty memorable.
>>41325671>undead>innocentsThey are guilty of breaking circle of life. Any paladin who denies it is lawful-autist

>>41324633I'd be onboard if the overall tone of the game was humorous, the NPC was really hammed up, the NPC didn't talk very much, and all the players were in on the joke.
>>41298468I kinda, sorta did this one, but with what used to be a PC.See, our DM was going to quit DMíng for a while, schedule issues, but we were in the middle of a campaign. So i offer to take over a Dm but ask him not to tell the rest. My sorcerer was already CN (mercenary who loves his freedom CN, not "fireball in the marketplace LOLrandom" CN) and rather powerhungry, so i jumped of the deep end into evil. On his last session, we found the dragon that was or BBEG at the time, and confronted himmin his own lair. It was a hard fight, but we won. Then, during the victory celebrations, i slap the cleric on his shoulder, and this happens.>me: "i whistle the command stab my (poisoned) dagger in his back">whole party: wtf?> crossbow bolts fly in from several directions>all poisoned> Part goes down to the bolts, the poisons and the magic that i have left>The barbarian and the bard are still concious, were knocked out by ability damage.> I call one of the assailants out of the shadows, a large ogre with a greatclub, to deal with them. > before the ogre can swing, the bard asks me one question: "why?"> "please don't take it personal. I've grown quite fond of you, you know. Bu i can't let you stand in the way of my work, now can i?"> Orge knocks his lights out.> At this point everyone is absolutely furious, both at me, and the DM playing along, treating this blatant teamkilling like i declared an attack on a goblin or something.> everyone goes quiet as the DM stands up and walks away from the table and i take the seat behind the DM screen,>I start talking to my thouroughly confused fellows. > "As you wake up, still sore from the arrows, the poisons, and the merciful greatclub, you see that a great deal of the treasure hoard is missing, about a fifth, mostly magical items. >>41298468>Party accidentally recruits the BBEG in disguiseI'm not sorry, especially because he didn't do jack shit other than screw with their heads.
Not every NPC that hangs out with the party is a DMPC guys.
>>41308664DMPC is not "bad GM'ing", it's "Chaotic Evil chacters rolplayers" fault. My actual group always picks up people for a ride, solve their problems, buy their stuff, chat with them for a while. Most importantly, they remember their names, what they like and what they want.If they need someone to read some old viking runes, they know Torhild Redbeard, the guy with a kilt from the tavern may or may not be useful. And if they bring enough food for his wife and seven childs for a year, he will come along anywhere. Probably they'll need to find some old Torhild relative on the other side of the map. Because there is no "Scholar guild" or Viking wizard to read the runes. Ehiter they find someone to help them, or not. DMPC appear when your party can't, or most commonly, won't, solve the problems the GM puts them in.You have to remind that the GM is also playing the game. If you dodge every single plot to go murderhoboning, play a videogame. Don't do it on paper. Don't do that to your GM.It's immensely boring, and impotent, to prepare the next session knowing that the only thing your players care, is how high the monster statblock pile is.
>>41327577Don't equate augmentation with transability. You embarrass yourself.
>>41329624Yeah, I mean wanting augmentation doesn't stem from mental illness, does it?
