You are Clarissa, a high-school student, Kimiko's Substitute Shinigami, violent murderer, and one of Karakura Town's spiritual protectors. The negotiations are practically over. After Urahara determined that you do not, in fact, have the Hogyoku in you, there is very little left to discuss. He looks disappointed with your vague answer at first, but then, saying that "There's no rush either way," tells his brattish partner to give him something. The short blonde keeps her angry grimace, but reluctantly obeys.A black butterfly, something you haven't noticed hiding in the dark, hovers around Hiyori and then flies to Urahara's finger. He turns back to you and offers you the butterfly. "This is a Hell Butterfly, a messenger used by the Shinigami. When you make your decision, you can let me know through this. Simply tell it what you want to relay, and it'll deliver your message directly to me." He explains. It flies off his hand, and you hesitantly let it land on your palm. The short girl scoffs at that. "As if this chick is ever gonna make up her mind about anything. Seriously, what a waste of time."You're about to bark something unpleasant at her, but Urahara intervenes with a tired sigh. He shakes his head, as if to tell you that it wouldn't be worth it. "We'll be leaving now. I look forward to hearing your answer."...>Say your goodbyes and see him off.>"Actually, I've got a question." (Write-in).>Other. (Write-in).

>>40986379Question then is, whether accepting for later would get us any help with Kimiko...
>>40986288Fuck it, accept his stupid offer.Because even if everything is going to fuck us over, just sitting around doing nothing is boring as fucking shit. Even if it's shitty that there's no safe option, we're gonna have to just bite the bullet and walk into a trap.

>>40986602Welp, time to see where things go from here then.
>>40986622They're not gonna go anywhere unless we do something you clod. Kimiko is NEVER coming back unless Clarissa does something.
>>40986704I get your point but I'm not sure Clarissa would commit to something like this without a bigger guarantee of help.
>>40986772Well yeah, Urahara isn't quite trustworthy, and judging by his subordinate, it doesn't seem like it would be a good work environment.
>>40986835And it's also kind of annoying that Gilgamesh somehow thought he was the Hougyoku even if he wasn't? Either that, or what would be even more annoying is if he was the plotrock, but Urahara pickpocketed him right out of our torso.
>>40986874To be honest that sounds pretty funny.Bleach quest: the quest for plotrock Gil.
>>40986897Eh, we already want to find one person without taking any actual steps towards doing that.
>>40986334>>40986403With that, Urahara turns away and takes his leave. His partner holds her glare on you for a while longer, looking like she's resisting the urge to spit, but then follows after him. When they fade out of sight, Ren slumps her shoulders and lets out a heavy sigh, as if it's the first time she managed to draw a proper breath ever since the encounter began. "Sheesh... that was intense." She mutters and places her hands on her sides, still looking towards where the Shinigami duo was last seen.Naoko relaxes her posture as well, the white gloves covering her clutched fists flickering out of existence.Ren, in response to the surprisingly tense silence present even after the negotiations ended, breaks out into a bit of a nervous laughter. "I was so worried that I forgot I can talk!"And Naoko, on the other hand, probably willingly left all the talking to you.You look at the quiet girl and speak up. "Naoko, you're an expert on this kind of thing. Was that guy every lying?"She shakes her head. "I didn't see any signs of lying. Even so, I didn't trust him in the slightest, so I didn't say anything. If... if he was lying, I'd tell you right away," Naoko glances at the black butterfly in your hand. "I... don't think you should agree to anything. I think you shouldn't have agreed even to that... 'examination'. They clearly have some kind of an agenda, and I'm sure it's nothing good."Ren frowns. "It really looked like they were going to do it by force if Clarissa didn't agree to it. Especially that hyper-aggressive shortie. Seriously, what's up with her?"Naoko stoically remarks. "I was ready for that. I wouldn't let them."(1/2)
>>40987001You realize something. "...Naoko, if that guy really wasn't lying, it would have saved us some time if you just told me."...Or was he lying, after all? Was he really just checking up on it as he claimed, or was he going to take it away after all? It certainly wasn't a motion to just look at it, but... why even strike an additional deal after he was done? Well, Naoko wasn't really sure, either. Maybe Urahara's just an expert of a liar.Naoko hangs her head and meekly apologizes. "Sorry."After looking at her reaction, you and Ren exchange confused glances. Did you say something bad? It feels like you did....>"It's no big deal. Just be more confident next time.">"...You really don't have to look so beaten up about it. Don't worry about it.">Other. (Write-in).

"...I'm just trying to say that your opinion's important and all. So... don't worry about it, alright?"Naoko nods, still looking like a kid getting scolded by her parents. She then mutters another apology and turns away. The street descends into an uncomfortable silence again. At the very least, Ren doesn't let it persist for long."...Hey, Clarissa, what was with that weird line about girls?" Ren suddenly says, nosediving the subject towards something completely embarrassing."What line?" You act dumb, but know exactly what she's talking about, and you really don't want to talk about it."You know the one. Something about 'cute girls' and 'inside', or something weird like that! Did you see the look on that shortie's face when you said that? I think it took her like a few seconds to get what you meant, but when she did, it's like she ate a lemon or something!" Ren laughs. "Weren't you trying to prove that you're NOT a pervert a little while ago?"...>"I-it was just something to help with the tension...">"I was just speaking my mind, I guess.">"...Look, let's get back to the patrol. She's, like, the opposite of cute. You're being the weirdo now," You shrug. "Look, everyone was strung up like hell, so I just joked around a bit to calm things down. Stop giggling already.""Alright, alright. It's a good excuse, so I'll let you off with just that," She says. Her smirk grows wider when she looks at your sour face. "We're on the job, anyway. Let's finish that patrol! Right?"Well, at least her teasing got everyone's minds off that confrontation, even if just slightly. You lead your friends on, following the routine patrol route that Kimiko taught you about. It covers most of the town in a fairly efficient amount of time, but it's quite obviously more suitable for catching stray ghosts rather than keeping the town safe against Hollows, especially considering that it's a 'once over and you're good' sort of route."I'll know if there's a Hollow nearby." Naoko assures you not to worry about something like that as she gestures to her silver cross. It's a decent enough replacement for Kimiko's Hollow-catching phone-radar, probably. You don't encounter any Hollows, but you do come across several ghosts. Normally, it's your duty to send dead people to Soul Society, but from what you understand, any newcomers are kept track of and Soul Society is aware of any new arrivals. Kimiko mentioned something like that, didn't she? ...Or maybe you're remembering wrong. Either way, you're wary.(1/2)
>>40988475Before doing anything, you ask Naoko. "Hey, Naoko, could you do that ribbon sensing thing again and check if there are any other Shinigami around?"She nods and summons dozens of white stripes out of thin air. She ignores the white ones and summons only the red ones to her palm; there are two of those, and one of them has to be you. Maybe Urahara left his unruly subordinate in charge of the city, or maybe a replacement Shinigami actually came around.Regardless, this might mean that if you purify spirits now, it won't be suspicious and can be blamed on the other Shinigami still present in the town....Probably....>Perform the Soul Burials.>They ought to send a real Shinigami soon, if they haven't already. Wonder what other Shinigami might show up.
>>40988538>>40988546...Can you even perform Konso with your weird swords? You don't have any of them right now. You outstretch your hand, spend a few seconds concentrating, and grasp the hilt of a sword. This one, just like many others, has a black blade and a white edge, though the way the blade is curved is completely nonsensical - it's bent a clean ninety degrees in two places along the blade, forming something like a square hook. Why and how would you use such a thing in battle?"Hey, Naoko, Ren, we'll be sending these spirits off to heaven. If any of them run, go after them and restrain 'em." You warn your friends in advance. While Naoko nods, Ren looks at you skeptically. "...Are you serious? Why would they run away?"You shrug. "I dunno. They just do. Maybe the swords scare them. I mean, I sort of get them. When you see a weapon like that, you won't be thinking that the weird black-robed dudes are NOT chasing after you to cut you with it.""Can't you hide that thing until you need it?""That would be kind of a bother." You shrug again and just hide it behind your back. Even with its bizarre and awkward curve, the straight edge of the sword is still as long as a regular katana....Another thing, one that you keep quiet about, is that they might be afraid of going to hell. You'd laugh a fear like that off in the past, knowing that a Konso can't send you off anywhere but to Soul Society. But you've only thought that because Kimiko never mentioned that it could send a soul anywhere else. Now that you've seen proof of the opposite - now that you know that Hell isn't just a religious belief - you can't even bring yourself to joke about it.(1/3)
>>40989584You teach Ren how to differentiate a normal person from a ghost; you tell her that, besides the obvious traits of transparency and paleness, they have a chain on their chest - a chain that, you warn her, should never be touched or tampered with. You don't tell her this, but you remember that when Naoko melted off that one spirit's chain, he very nearly turned into a Hollow right there, on the spot.Naoko, in the meantime, teaches you and Ren how to perform that sensory technique, with the white stripes and all. Neither of you make any progress, though. Well, it's not a surprise that your red haired friend couldn't pull it off, but you've got some experience with all of this, so it must be harder than it seems. The strange swords perform their function well - when you bump the hilt against a soul's forehead, the Konso is performed without issue.Surprisingly, you come across only one runaway, a distressed boy about ten years of age. Naoko makes quick work of the chase, though. She slides across the ground at an impressive speed and gets him into a grapple. The little boy never stood a chance.Maybe having real people nearby makes the black robes and swords a little less conspicuous. ...Well, looking at Naoko wouldn't make someone relax, but Ren probably would. Maybe she looks friendly, in contrast to you two. ...Though, it's not like you're putting up a constant warface that you're trying to scare people with, so how is she that better than you at calmly approaching ghosts? After securing seven souls, the patrol route ends. You didn't encounter any Shinigami or Hollows. Strange, considering the recent wave of spiritual pressure. Did it not last long enough to attract another horde of Hollows like it did before or something along those lines? All those uncertainties are really giving you a headache by now.(2/3)
>>40989620"Well, that was productive! ...I think!" Ren exclaims and stretches a bit. You nod at her; tonight went pretty well, all things considered. No one got hurt and there was almost no danger at all. The three of you head back to your homes. Naoko has to split off a bit earlier than Ren, who gets to go a little ways further together with you. Or... wait, this doesn't seem right."Isn't your house the other way?""Yeah, I just... can I talk with you about Naoko?" Ren asks. You tell her to go ahead. "So... you didn't really see it, but... when things were going down, Naoko looked really tense. And I mean... seriously, like she was about to kill someone. I think if she saw something funny, she really would have done it.""I don't really think that's a big deal. You said it yourself, right? Those guys really could have attacked us if we told them to fuck off. I wouldn't put it past them." You shrug."Yeah. I know that..." Ren mutters uncertainly. "But... I think she was the most dangerous person there. Well, scariest, at least. When that Urahara guy did his thing and put his arm through your chest, she had that... I dunno... that look in her eyes, you know? Like she was going to kill everyone for that.""...So what are you trying to say?""I'm... not really trying to say that she was wrong for feeling that way. I felt really scared when he impaled you like that, too. But... I'm just surprised, I guess. You guys weren't friends for long, right? Like, you weren't keeping a hidden friendship away from everyone else or anything like that, right? I'm just surprised that she cares so much about you..." The girl seems a bit uneasy....>"Well... We supported each other when we really needed it. As a result, she trusts me, and I trust her. There's really nothing surprising.""Well, if you say that it's okay...""And besides, I think I'm like, the only friend she has.""...Now I'm getting worried again." Ren folds her arms and looks down at the ground, contemplating about something. You chuckle."Don't worry about it. 'Sides, I dragged her into our lunches so that she'd hang out with us and make more friends. You two are getting along pretty well, aren't you?" You nudge her a bit with your elbow. She shrugs."I don't know about that. She's... pretty unsociable, you know. I really have no idea how to deal with people like that. You talk to them and they just... don't really respond. She'll tell you 'yes' or 'no' or whatever else will get you to shut up and stop talking to her, and there's no real way to work around that. At least I don't know any." Ren says."I don't think Naoko's doing it on purpose. She looks pretty cold and intimidating at a glance, and when you talk to her, it really does make you feel like she doesn't give a damn about anything you have to say, but the truth is, she's just awkward and shy and doesn't know how to deal with people," You smile and rest the hooked sword on your shoulder. "I don't really know how to deal with something like that, either, so I just let her take things at whatever pace she likes. I don't talk with her as much as I do with you, for example, but, well, I think she's happy with that, and I don't really mind it that much, either. It probably makes her feel shittier if you expect her to respond all the time."(1/2)
>>40990705"...So you guys really do get along well, huh? Well, I just wanted to make sure," Ren relaxes a bit and stops walking. "I thought there was something weird going on, but seems that my guess was totally wrong. In that case, you should stick close to her and become the friend she's never had. If you mess up, she probably won't want another, you know?"The girl smiles. She puts her hands in pockets as a chill wind passes by. You nod at her. "You're makin' it seem like it's some big responsibility. I don't really want to look at it that way.""That's probably for the best. If she's a friend, it'd be stupid to look at her as anything other than that. It'd probably piss me off if someone became friends with me out of pity, and it'd depress me if I had to do that to someone else. Either way, that kind of friendship would just fall apart eventually." She says. You nod at her again."Well, I'm heading out. See ya in the morning," Ren takes out her phone and checks the time. "Sheesh, I hope I wasn't caught sneaking out. ...Or sneaking back in."You tell your goodbyes and head on home. Sneaking into your room is effortless as a spirit. You ask Chappy if everything's clear, and the rabbit-soul occupying your physical body answers. "The coast is clear, master Clarissa! Pyon. There's a bit of a difference between that and just trying to fall asleep, but it's tricky to spot and explain. You hope you won't mess up and drop into a real slumber. After you keep your eyes firmly shut for a little while, you awake in the grand throne room of a castle. It worked just as you wanted it to. As you glance around and get used to your new surroundings, you realize that someone is laughing. The golden haired king sitting on his throne is awfully amused by something. You wait until he calms down and only a smile remains on his face, one that's still trying to keep that fit of laughter repressed."So..." You begin, and the would-be king listens with that still present amusement. "The hell were you screaming at me for? Looks like you're not the Hogyoku, after all. You got so scared you almost made me freak out, too."He hangs his head and his shoulders quiver as he tries to fight against another burst of snickering, but, probably when he realizes that there's absolutely no reason for him to hold back, he breaks out into another guffaw. "Don't be so naive!"The young man calms down after that, now looking at you with more composure. A smirk is still there, but it's more similar to the one you saw on him during your first meeting: arrogant and confident. It seems that he's in a good mood. Maybe freaking out over what ended up being nothing cheered him up, like after receiving a cheap scare because of someone's prank.(1/2)
>>40991694"That man all but recited my words about my capabilities! You honestly believe that it was just a coincidence? It wasn't! It couldn't have been, and it was foolish of you to think that even for a moment," He gesticulates with his hand in a way to emphasize his bafflement. His good mood is quickly turning bitter, like what you expected to see after your previous, unsuccessful encounter with him. "Just what were you thinking, offering me up on a silver platter to some complete stranger? Just what would you do without me?" He pauses. "Well, it is true that you don't use my abilities to begin with..."You let the remark slide. "So... what the hell? Did that guy make a mistake? Isn't he the expert on that sort of thing?"The king of the castle considers your question for a bit, and then lightly shrugs. "Perhaps it was possible to extract me at one point with whatever method he tried. But... I doubt he expected me to exist in this form.""In what form?" You ask with a skeptical frown."In this form," He gestures towards himself. "In your form. As you. I am you, didn't I tell you this? I wasn't wrong; he was. He made a mistake. Perhaps he doesn't know that his creation is capable of such a thing, so that's why he made the assumption that I simply wasn't there. Well, either way, I won't dwell on the reason. Whatever it may be, it won't change anything. At this point, it seems that it's too late for any changes."His smile grows more proud and self-assured, like he's basking in his own success. He then remembers that you're still here, and the cheeriness fades. "Well? What do you want?"...>"I was just checking up on you.">"I'll probably regret asking, but what do you think I should do about Urahara's offer?">"So that makes your name is Hogyoku, right? "You're... mad at me?""No I'm not," He sighs and rolls his eyes, as if to ask what gave you that idea. "Well, get on with your business if you have any. Otherwise, why are you here? Just to bicker with me some more and reject help? I'll pass on that, thank you very much."Is he seriously upset... in this way? He's all but pouting right now."Well..." You begin, struggling against a chuckle. "I've got some questions. You could help me by answering those, uh... Hogyoku. That's your name, right?""I told you that I don't have a name. Call me whatever you like. It's not like you're going to use it that often, anyway." He responds with more passive-aggressiveness, and you have to once again struggle against a fit of laughter. Why is this guy's bemusement so funny? Well, probably because you didn't expect it in this form. Like a schoolgirl angry at her boyfriend over something trivial."So... that was a funny sword I pulled out today. Was that a joke? Felt like I needed a handicap in case I had to fight a Hollow?" You sort of joke around a bit, but his response to that is a frown. Geez, to think that this guy was grinning his ass off just a minute ago."No. I'm not responsible for which swords you take out. If any of them are strangely shaped, well, it probably plays into their abilities in some way. I doubt you can use those powers, though. Not incompetence this time; just a lack of compatibility," Hogyoku shrugs a bit. "Well, if you're in a position in which you actually have to wield a weapon, you're either playing around or are a fool, so what does it matter?"(1/2)
>>40993426...Actually kind of getting on your nerves now. He doesn't urge you on to the next question, and doesn't even look at you directly. Well, you still have some questions left, so you'll just bear with this for a bit."You know, I want to check up on Kimiko, but without having any weird researcher guys breathing down my neck. How might I go about doing that? The best I could come up with was just finding the latest local shinigami and then... seducing them, I guess?""You could go through a troublesome method like that and then wander about in an unknown world filled to the brim with dead people, searching for a dark-haired young girl with a very common name," He says, putting in an effort to paint that choice as something stupid through both expression and gesticulation. "Or you could take up that man's offer and have him give you the necessary information instead. I'm surprised you even hesitated. So when it's about me, it's fine to trust strangers, is that it?""No, that's not-..." You're about to start arguing, but, well, would there be even any point to that? This guy wants you to do something terrible, and is now mad at you for not going through with it? Instead, you continue with the relevant question. He's still answering those even while dripping poison. "Look, I'm worried Kimiko might come under fire when I talk about her. And besides, what the hell was his condition about? I don't really get it..."(2/3)
>>40993465Hogyoku shrugs again. "Just how hard would it be to find out who was in charge of Karakura Town when a suspicious Shinigami like you cropped up? Urahara saw you, his partner saw you. That's enough to figure things out, I would wager. And his terms? If you don't want to consider them, then don't consider them. He said he wouldn't rush you to your death; in that case, why even worry? You still have your entire life ahead of you. And if at the end, you don't want to follow through with them, well... what, is he going to force you into it? You? If he honestly thinks that he can, he's a fool."The golden man scoffs, as if finding the notion irredeemably audacious. You take a minute to consider his words, and then go on ahead with your next question."Did I accidentally use your power on Naoko, or is she really just that... her?""Are you really going to ask me that every time you make a friend? Don't be ridiculous. Even without these powers, you're charismatic and highly attractive. You may be relatively unskilled with words, but that's not a hard flaw to remedy, especially for someone as sociable as you," He's keeping to his unfriendly tone, but he's unabashedly showering you with praise. "Honestly, if you weren't so stubbornly against it, you'd be easily able to earn your own happiness. You're not willing to take the easy way out by using your abilities, and you're not willing to take the hard road and create your joy with your own hands. ...As if those two things are somehow different. Once again, ridiculous."After a brief pause - one that you spend suppressing irritation, and Hogyoku spends on further contemplation - he speaks up again.(3/4)
>>40993534"As for his offer? I suggest you take it. You can ask for information about Kimiko, and then, well, you can do as you like with it," His mood seems to lighten up a bit; he doesn't look at you, still, but there's a bit of a cheery glint to his red eyes. "If she's in distress, then capitalize on Urahara's terms right away and receive a free trip to Soul Society. If she's just fine, then spend your life doing what you like. It wouldn't be cheating anymore in that case, would it? Don't tell me you're actually going to spend a literal lifetime saving yourself for her just because you'll meet her after death."A malicious smile crawls up on his face. The man shakes his head. "You're already on the verge of breaking. Don't presume that it's something you're capable of."...>"Alright. I've asked you everything I wanted to ask. I'm heading out now.">"...You know, you can be helpful sometimes. Thanks.">"Just why are you so mad? It's pissing me off.">"I think 'Hogyoku' doesn't cut it. I'll give you a different name." (Write-in).>Ask him another question. (Write-in).>Other. (Write-in).
