In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Your Master Astropath, Nerial, enters your cell:>Milord, please accept my apologies about interrupting your meditation session, but we have received a soulword from Mars. Nerial bows and passes on a message scribbled by the servitor onto a piece of pergament to you:>CHAPTER MASTER [REDACTED], your Chapter, Ghosts of Retribution, was designated as operational in 309.M41. By now your Chapter has been active for more than four decades and as such we expect you to deliver your first geneseed sample to Mars to check for genetical deviations and stability of the genome. According to the latest data available to us, your Chapter had 6 fully operational companies, as such we request you to deliver 30 units of geneseed by 355.M41 to Mars or the nearest Adeptus Mechanicus outpost who will be obliged send it to us. Depending on how satisfying is the condition of your geneseed we might demand the next sample at any point within next five decades.Regards, Magos Biologis Aidran [AID-554-147], Brotherhood of Mars
>>40907570>Magos Biologis Adrian [AID-554-147], we will send the geneseed to Nestorium, our nearest forge world, immediately.Regards, Chapter Master [REDACTED]Send the 30 units to Nestorium.Furthermore, commission a relic power scythe to be made for the Black Templar's when they arrive in two years. Finally, Eisenhorn once said he 'knew what lay behind the troubles with the Iron Monks' https://archive.moe/tg/thread/31346784/#31349054Did he ever get round to actually telling us? If not we should find out.

Finally, after a long and dangerous journey to the Dead World of Sictix, Captains Macedon and Brethorius return back to the Chapter. Their challenge is settled and their bond as battle brothers only grew stronger because of it. Brethorius is quick to share his experiences:>Sometimes I thought that this is it, that I will perish upon the desolates wastes of that accursed rock, but in the end we survived and only became stronger because of it!Macedon only nods in approval. Both of the captains tell tales of the ruined world that faced full wrath of the Imperial Exterminatus in the ages past. Macedon mentions an interesting fact:>Nowadays the planet has become a matter of morbid fascination among the Imperial nobility, as a matter of fact some of the more pious believers who want the ultimate penitence do decide to end their days on Sictix. That's how we met met Alderon. He was praying in one of the ruined cathedrals, looking up at the ruined moon, when we came upon him. For some reason he saw us as a sign from the Emperor and has offered his services to the Chapter as a common serf as a continuation of his penitence... We didn't promise him anything, but we decided to take him along with us, because apparently once long ago he was a very gifted person. What do you think, milord?+++Penitent Pilgrim Alderon (roll 3d6, preferabl by different players):1. Famous lineage2. Thinker3. Fighter4. Speaker5. Bearer of an Artifact6. >>40908358About the Eldar, last time I suggested we give him our Digi-ring, for the exact (not riddle) location of the Wrath of Corax, Luigi was against it, sot that makes one vote yes, one vote no.The reason I did suggest this, because I belive this would be the perfect opportunity to gain some lost things. namely those Apothecaries, Techamrines, 50 marines, and Stike Cruiser Destiny. We would convey the location to Brother Arcon, and make him recover it, and return it. When we departed, we were planning to reunite the chapter. If he recovers the artifact, and retuns with it, he might redeem himself in the eye of the Chapter with it, (That and 20 years of penitent crusading)
Upon the return of Brethorius and Macedon, Chapter Master gathers all his Captains and their Lieutenants to the strategium of the Tombstone. Those unable to attend personally instead do so by uplink."Let me start by saying how proud of am of how this Chapter has grown in recent years despite our many early setbacks. You all conduct yourselves admirably in battle and I could not ask for brothers of greater skill. However, I feel there is a growing attitude problem that must be addressed. I have several points to make to several people and I shall outline them now.Harmantos. I accompanied you on one of your pilgrimages and learned much of your faith and why you follow it. I also learned that there is *nothing* in our official chapter cult that contradicts it. Therefore I would appreciate it if you and your men joined in the chapter-wide gatherings and the honouring of our primarchs and ancestors. Your pilgrimages will be a tradition for your company rather than a rift in the Chapter.Kronos, Quintor. When I returned from Farness Beta you seemed to be under the assumption that the introduction of a unified chapter cult somehow meant you were worthless to me, and immediately requested you be permitted to go on a suicidal mission against a hostile planet.Frankly the selfishness of your request staggered me. Not only did you want to throw away the precious geneseed you were GIFTED by this Chapter, you apparently intended to take a great deal of power armour, war machines and one of our strike cruisers to hell with you. Do you think tanks, ships and armour fall from my backside?! It took DECADES to acquire the equipment we need to do our jobs properly and become a chapter worthy or recognition, but you would throw it away in pursuit of pointless death?Sort it out. Your loyalty is admirable but think of the Chapter in the future, not of yourselves. cont

>>40912187>TyrelI knew we forgot to invite someone"Dear Tyrelas always the Ghosts are at your service, I'm sending my Liutenant Kronos, who as you pointed out has succseeded at TemplosYour friend [Redacted]"Y/N?
Rolled 5, 9 + 20 = 34 (2d10 + 20)>>40911948finally koden;s BS
>>40912341Sending the Half of the 5th company with Liutenant Kronos, and the standard, techmarine, apothecary, chaplain setup.Eternal Purity will carry themThey are ordered to give a full report the moment they arrive, and know more about the situation. Assist the admiral how he wishes, but learn first, battle second
+Expected Events+351.M41 = Trianon will return with Haran Dreifus and the Reverent Spirit.351.M41 = Construction of Vardan Cybernetics Indutry will be complete (T2 gold mine built, Refinery built, and fuel mine upgraded to T2)351.M41 = Magos Hadrian will have completed his planning for the neutralisation of the Folkvangr volcanoes. +++All of these events happen. Magos Hadrian estimates that it will cost about 1200-1500W to neutralise volcanic activity on Folkvangr and that it will take 20 - 60 years. Will you want to proceed with this plan? This kind of long term project could be initiated with a "payment plan" if you wish.
I see two different plans:>>40912430>>40912341 and this>>40912316Which one should I follow? Dieter has presented a more clear description for the mission, however it's up to you to decide
>>40912444>All of these events happen. Magos Hadrian estimates that it will cost about 1200-1500W to neutralise volcanic activity on Folkvangr and that it will take 20 - 60 years. Will you want to proceed with this plan? This kind of long term project could be initiated with a "payment plan" if you wish.I'm running on the assumption that the Kerr dynasty will share the yearly expense with us, so I'll wait until Kerr is available to has out a payment plan.
>>40912477I'll support sending Kronos and the same marines he crushed the templos riots with.
>>40912316I suggested Kronos and the 5th because they did the Templos job, so he might have experience in the matter, but Trianon and 2nd is valid as wellaltough since we are short on liblarians, maybe we should keep Trianon in reserve
>>40912506>>40912534Ok, great then, I'll be going with this:>>40912430Please roll 3d100.

>>40912604>>40912599>>40912629Due to the very unevenly divided rolls, I will ask you a few questions about what should Kronos do in certain situations to resolve this easier.+++Hunter Squadron Alpha arrives to the San Larion system and immediately reports back to the Chapter. Kronos attempts to contact local government, but without much success. Orbital scan shows that the only sattelite uplink on the planet is burning, destroyed by the rioters. What does Kronos do?>Locate biggest concentrations of rioters in all cities, send squads to disperse/destroy them>First locate Planetary Governor, certain Don Siempre, his palace is located in the northern hemisphere>Land and secure strategically vital areas from further destruction and attempt to get some techpriests to fix uplink>Do everything at once
>>40912899>Land and secure strategically vital areas from further destruction and attempt to get some techpriests to fix uplinkI'll vote for this option
>>40912899>>40912921I also vote for securing and fixing, it could mean the easier retake of the planet. Also send reinforcements we'll soon specfy who and how much
>>40912899>>40913053I support this action, and add that we observe enemy movements from orbit, if there is a valid threat we napalm them
>>40912899>Land and secure strategically vital areas from further destruction and attempt to get some techpriests to fix uplinkYes this has a very 40k feel to it. Screw the people, make sure our strategic assets are secure!
>>40912894As soon as you decide, brother Anon.>>40912851Cybernetics factory will start making money next year, same goes for resource consumption and eco-damage. Also, roll for Varda income.Regarding Armageddon-class battlecruiser in exchange for Gladius frigates - this sounds quite reasonable, but will take some years until they will be delivered. Would you like to arrange this deal through Nestorium? Finally for Haran Dreifus, I'll ask you to roll Interrogation.>>40912921>>40913053Kronos has decided to secure most important strategical locations. There are a total of 23 locations of extreme importance (such as PDF ammunition depots, starport, communication centres, etc.), so Kronos is not too happy about having to stretch his marines so thinly, however once your marines land, you realise that most of the rioters are simple rabble without any weapons (apart from sticks, spears, molotov cocktails and an occasional laspistol). Also when the first object is taken, remnants of the loyalists contact Kronos and inform him that they are barricaded inside Adeptus Arbites headquarters in the capital city. What should Kronos do?>Secure all 23 locations, because this will help to restore order quickest>Secure only one type of locations, it will allow riots to grow, but marines will be less spread out>Send out some marines to save loyalists and use others to guard strategical objects(specify)
Rolled 3 (1d3)>>40913227In that case the only thing on varda making money is the agri complex.
Rolled 76 (1d100)>>40913227>Regarding Armageddon-class battlecruiser in exchange for Gladius frigates - this sounds quite reasonable, but will take some years until they will be delivered. Would you like to arrange this deal through Nestorium?Yeah, give battlecruiser to navy, they give payment to nestorium, they give frigates to us.>Finally for Haran Dreifus, I'll ask you to roll Interrogation.Rolling. Don't be afraid to break a few extremities of course.
>>40913227>Send out some marines to save loyalists and use others to guard strategical objects(specify)guard weapon cashes, power plant and comms as primary
>>40913227>Send out some marines to save loyalists and use others to guard strategical objects(specify)I vote that we rescue PDF, and take the ammo depos (keep the rabble unarmed), the starport (navy reinforcements) use the PDF to secure more outposts, if the marines can, keep communication going trough them, and organize the PDF that way, so we don't have to commit men to listening post unless we can afford them
>>40913227>Send out some marines to save loyalists and use others to guard strategical objects(specify)Give the PDF ammunition depots highest priority. As long as the don't get their hands on real weaponry then they can be contained. And ensure at least one communication relay is protected so we can coordinate the deployment of imperial guard forces to restore order.
>>40913227I'd rather keep the Armageddon class since it's bigger than our biggest ship, but I don't know jack about space battles, so my opinion doesn't really count in this matter
>>40912894>Son When? When we can find Adriel and convince her to help us make a filthy half-breed.http://i.imgur.com/XU2c9OK.jpg
>>40913386It's a navy-spec battlecruiser with lances and no planetary assault capacity. So people don't like us having it and it's of little use to us anyway.
>>40913398This must be one of the most heretical things I've ever seen
>>40913362>>40913354>>40913321So, Kronos will use 4 squads to guard 11 depots(all), 2 power plants(all), 1 communications array and 1 starport, while the last squad with Kronos will attempt to relieve the siege on loyalists and then use them for retaking planet piece by piece? If you agree with this plan, roll d100
Rolled 49, 94, 12, 100, 47, 33 = 335 (6d100)some secret rolls
>>40913417I proposed that the stretched out marines would, lead the saved loyalist soilders, and keep touch in the vox, so the communications array falls back in priority. If it can be done, then let's leave out the comms, if not then include it.Otherwise it's right. Also are there any Navy ships in orbit? Can we ask reinforcemetns trought them?Would the other half of the 5th company arrive hter in time to make a difference?
>>40913477>I proposed that the stretched out marines would, lead the saved loyalist soilders, and keep touch in the vox, so the communications array falls back in priority. If it can be done, then let's leave out the comms, if not then include it.Otherwise it's right. Please clarify what do you have in mind, comms are already included among the 15 objects which you would guard.>Also are there any Navy ships in orbit?Nope, they only intercepted the distress signal and passed it on. Would you like to summon them? Remember that Imperial Navy has some armsmen onboard, but not too many usually, if you think this situation requires serious reinforcements, summon IG.>Would the other half of the 5th company arrive hter in time to make a difference? It could take between 2 - 6 weeks for them to arrive depending on the rolls. Do you want to send them out?
Rolled 93 (1d100)>>40913585>Please clarify what do you have in mind5 marines 50 PDF = 1 marine leading 10 pdf, while the marine stays in contact with the other "squads" trouht their personal vox systemOf course if the personal voxes don't have enough range it's not possible then.>Starport only if we can recieve faster reinforcements, or do faster evacutation of our foces, otherwise nay>Comms array only if the first idea doesn't work, if it does, naySending out the rest of the 5th company as reinforcement

>>40913227>As soon as you decide, brother Anon.Okay I'll start with the easiest one Give me the exact number of battle ready serfs we have I'd also like the clans and or houses they belong to
Deregan Varsh, age 34, born in Novomark, always thought that his job was one of the easiest and most prestigious in all of the Imperium. Serving as the communications officer aboard "Venator Primus", Hunter-Class Destroyer was always easy and he served Adeptus Astartes, Sons of Him on Terra. Another routine mission to the backwater world of San Larion was supposed to be a cakewalk, nothing special. Breaking up riots is a job for Arbites, but nowadays our Sector is so quiet because of Ghosts of Retribution, that battle brothers have the time to answer to even such an easy request as crushing a rebellion, which are commonplace in the periphery systems... Deregan was sitting in front of communications cogitator, tracking vox exchanges among battle brothers and from time to time advising them on how to proceed or relaying orders from Leutenant Kronos. Random chatter, orders and inquiries filled the air as Deregan was sipping his hot decaf. Then, suddenly, one by one, comms channels went dead. Deregan put decaf away and checked cogitator, whispering Litany of Maintenance under his breath. Everything seemed to be in order. Suddenly channel 12 flared up as live and chatter filled the room:>...eat, they are climbing the walls, we are almost out of am... - - - ...re is Kro... --- ... Deregan, now in panic, screamed into his vox caster:>Detachment Kappa, do you copy me? Kappa!? Kappa, Emperor dammit, are you there!?Then another channel came to live, this time number 8.>...ad co... - - - ...multiple enemies, probabl... - - - ...we are retrea... - - - ...tunnels. ---Number 8 went dead as well. With shaking voice, Deregan turns on internal comms and warns the captain:>Sir, I think we have serious trouble.+++You lost control of Kronos and his squads. Thank you for playing, session over.
>>40914131>battle readyAnd by battle ready I mean capable in terms of age and health I had a brain fart
>>40914131I believe Chapter Serfs are already equipped and trained to a level exceeding most Imperial Guardsmen. They're expected to defend the fortress-monastery and chapter fleet should the need arise. But if Space Marines start deploying them in offensive actions on the ground it makes the inquisition and most other factions extremely edge because of the whole separation of astartes and human military forces that was made mandatory after the horus heresy.

>>40914163>>40914215So, the last of the Deathwishers, had their wish fulfilled?
>>40914177Damn the space fuzz hate funI swear another chapter does that thoughThen again I'm pretty rusty on my lore
>>40914291Ultramarines have the Ultramar Auxilia, which is basically the PDF of the worlds they control but also basically Chapter Serfs because they control an entire sector. But they get a pass on this otherwise bad behaviour because they're such a prestigious first-founding chapter.Astral Claws tried the same thing and got thoroughly BTFO'd.
>>40914291>>40914177Luigi is right about Chapter serfs being already well prepared. However if you want to expand your influence and acquire something like what Ultramarines have - with semi-integrated IG and PDF regiments - I have rules ready for that, however you'd need to be ready to deal with the fallout if you expand your power beyond what Codex Astartes specifies.
>>40914363>>40914291We already have the Vardan PDF and regiment, no? We could get more planets, and set up more military like them
>>40914395PDF on our own planets seems to be fine. But wielding those forces beyond the bounds of their duty will raise eyebrows.
>>40914363>I have rules ready for that>mfw>>40914320>>40914363Okay well that clears some things up I could see us spending some high lord favors as well to get that but I doubt anybody else would think it was worth it
