Welcome to the /tg/-approved comics thread! This is where you should post comics which are interesting, inspiring or otherwise pertinent to traditional gaming. Submissions should include a name, author and reason why it is /tg/-worthy and a link if applicable. For example:Name: Gunnerkrigg CourtAuthor: Tom Siddell Reason: Excellent plot, pacing and setting which create a lot of inspiration. Incredible character development and possible best depiction of Coyote in fiction.Link: http://gunnerkrigg.comGo ahead and post your comics, people!

>>40888369Name: OglafAuthor: Trudy CooperReason: Fantasy with ero, very good art, and a cynical sense of humor.Link: http://oglaf.comAlso, Sugar Bits is good; http://snafu-comics.com/swmcomic/prolouge/I was going to mention Jack for your edgy-as-fuck fix but the site it's allegedly hosted on holds nothing. Shame, I enjoy edgy-as-fuck things.
Alfie.It's about halfling sex.
>>40889268If we're going that direction: Cummoner. It's about orgasm magic.
>>40888951>Author is a master of suspense
Unsounded is good.So is Prequel.Rest of my list isn't that /tg/ related however.
>>40889360Hey now, let's keep it PG13, or at least minimize the smut.
Errant StoryMichael PoeGeneric fantasy webcomic that's got good art and an interesting storyline. It's also finished so you can ready the whole thing at once and the author lurks here on /tg/.It's animu as fuck though
>>40889487Oglaf was already suggested, it's too late to turn back.>>40889185Jack? The blatantly plagiarized furry comic? Nigga you just went full retard.
>>40889185Na men, Oglaf only good stuff is the non porn. Everything else is "Fantasy shit? Tits! lel"I'll say Requiem.
>>40889487Why? Everyone here is 18.
>>40889585Just feels odd to give out porn while on an sfw board, but whatever people like I guess.
>>40888369Name: Prince of SartarAuthor: Kalin KadievReason: It's set in the world of Glorantha, one of the oldest role-playing game settings in existence. Kadiev works with the guys at Moon Design Publishing, and this work is canon with the gameline. That and the art is beautiful - the artist does great work with color, and his depictions of the crazy otherworldly stuff of the Godplane is fantastic. Link: http://www.princeofsartar.com
>>40889566Whats a doomsday man? Also, stand still stay silent. http://www.sssscomic.com/Scandinavia survives the end of the world plague and now a crack team of explorers brave the ruins of the olden days to recover lost knowledge. So far its run about like party's first dungeoncrawl might be expected too.
>>40888369Name: The SistersAuthor: Pete and BrianReason: I've been here for eight years and we just finished our third issue. Urban fantasy hard continuity slice-of-life at the moment, with a focus on Satanism and Americana mythology. No fairies, no vampires, no werewolves. Things'll pick up by the end of the issue we're starting on Friday. We also update 3 pages a week.Link: thesisters-comic.comI really don't like whoring my stuff. But I've been on /tg/ for a good long bit and it sort of comes across like Innocents + Mage the Awakening by way of greater Boston area lower class gingers. Artist did a bunch of goofy L5R doodles that show up in those threads on occasion.Stuff I find good:The Green Knight by Mathias Prazhttp://www.greenknightcomic.com/Fantasy story about a frog knight. Its a bit fun and a short read. His characters also change clothing, and that is always refreshing. Author is also a nice dude, good to talk to.Skal by Jennie Gyllbladhttp://www.skalsaga.com/index.phpArabian/African fantasy, great environments. Feels kind of like a mash-up of Dark Sun and Al-Qadim. Bit cute, nice watercolors. Wish it updated more and used hand-lettering.Monstroushttp://monstrouscomic.tumblr.com/Prologue is meh, story itself is sort of tongue in cheek with urban fantasy detectives. Has an incubus in it who is lewd. Big bad vampire has a sort of crocodile form. Might need more time to develop, but some parts of it are cute.
>>40889698You opened with a moth-man, the Modern Herald of Disaster. This will not go well for the protagonists I take?
>>40888369Name:ElfquestAuthor:Wendy and Richard PiniReason:It's Elfquest.Link: http://elfquest.com/
http://elf-comic.thecomicseries.com/Elf. It's about an elf. And her animal companion. Also her grandmother. Likes to shoot arrows and use swords. The art is also very good. Pretty slow updates though.
>>40889676That's Dracula's flagship.A doomsday men is a men capable of destroying the world with his own means and skills. He got three.
>>40889789Things are on a downward spiral. Issue of doing this stuff is we realized we have to decompress the first couple issues before something can go wrong and feel like there's been enough build up and characterization. Three chapter rule. Focus is on Satanism, but you can't just open with it. Demons by themselves aren't scary, and they aren't what makes the Devil scary in an urban fantasy sense. Its the slow corruption, the influence and things you do because of the Devil that make it scary. Have a little mini comic, done a few years back.
>>40889891Oh, check out Modus Operandi.http://mo-comic.com/Nice political sci-fi comic. Bit slow at the moment, but a lot of fun. Classy duds and such.
>>40888478You should link all of these especially Paranatural and Atomic Robo
>>40889911Gotta build to it otherwise it doesn't feel right. Plus, keeping the powers street level as far as magic goes. If its too epic then we've failed. My artist and I loved the Dresden Files but the power level ascended really fast in that and we're planning on keeping it low throughout. I guess if we're talking comics in general:Fury: This War of MinePunisher: The SlaversReally great war stuff. Fury if you run Only War or Twilight 2000. Punisher if you run Hunter or any urban crime game.
http://www.timsievert.com/#/the-clandestinauts-volume-1/Would not surprise me if the author just draws the campaigns he plays in.
>>40889972>this war of mineFury: My War Gone By.Always fuck that up. The D&D IDW comics are great. The Dark Sun one they did was meh, but had a great Bard character. Rice-Boy/Order of Tales/Vattu are a given.Headlopper just got picked up, and it is great.Savage Sword of Conan comics, pick up the big paperbacks. Great beautiful pencil work.

Thanks for reminding me to finish this off, OP. I've been trying to find time to do something similar to this since, early May, I think.>>40889972Garth Ennis' run on Punisher MAX was amazing. "Born" and "Baracuda" are also well worth a look.Hellboy, the BPRD and the various spin offs form a coherent world of weird fantasy, science fiction and Nazi punching pulp that can tell horror stories, action, fairy tales and legends and more recently apocalyptic tales of survival not post-apocalyptic. Elves... IN SPACE. Sort of.http://well-of-souls.com/outsider/index.htmlThis has been mentioned on teeg many times. One reason being the glacial update page.
>>40889268If you like sameface, I guess.
>>40888369Name: HomestuckAuthor: Andrew HussieReason: Setting is designed specifically to encourage the same "What would I do in this situation" creativity that makes tabletop RPGs fun, the narrative abuses needless complexity and bullshit to make things run, and the plot is relentlessly lighthearted. At one point, the villain was even a dog wearing sunglasses!Link: http://www.mspaintadventures.com/Warning: Slightly cancerous
>>40890732Hey, I can't speak for homestuck, but Drowtales was not entirely Terribad, and the author intentionally edited ou all of the Mary sues and bad art.
http://witchgauntlet.tumblr.com/More people should read this.

>>40891039Wow that's some strong plagerism
>>40891288>>40891039Whoa, let's not say things we can't take back! There is literally nothing but Black Tokyo, FATAL, and RHW below Paolini.

>>40892207Better than Weregeek in that respect. I just want to know what the hell is going on in K6BD. It's so surreal all the time that I have a hard time following it.
Curious how no one has posted this yet: SSSS, Stay Still Stay Silent. It's about a party of post apocalyptic Nordic explorers on an expedition into lands heavily invested by zombie body horrors. And it updates 5 times a week, which is incredible for the quality of art
>>40892220It's literally "Fuck you, I can identify as a woman despite an agendered ghost. Fuck you Im special. LOOK AT ME"
>>40889391This is the worst drawn goblins satire I've ever seen. I can actually tell the two characters apart.
I wish I had artistic skill so I could make a web comic.Would you guys read a comic about an exceedingly competent henchman as he bounces between various BBEG, the party on his heels?
Not really /tg/ related but goddamn is it pretty
>>40888951In celebration of it's tenth anniversary, Thunt is putting up one page of "Bonus Strips" a day.He gets paid $1655.58 per comic page that he uploads to his site, and so for each page of his Bonus Strips that he uploads, he gets paid for doing absolutely nothing. If anything, Thunt should be commended for his ability to swindle money out of his undying fanbase.
>>40891928What was the "correct" way to deal with the ogres? Through that cave river? Mining through the rubble in that abandoned underground temple? Then helping the goblins/dwarves to rise up against the giants?

>>40888369Name: The GamerAuthor: Sangyoung SeongReason: Guy becomes as a game character, able to gain XP, see his stats, and min-max to hell and back. Initial focus on more vidya-like aspects of game, but more "TTRPG" aspects crop up later. Interesting modern setting with secret supernatural as well.Korean author, pick up interesting bits about Korea along with occasional translation oddities like table talk roleplaying game.Binge read it recently, and enjoyed it a great deal.Link: http://www.webtoons.com/en/fantasy/the-gamer/list?title_no=88
What's the one with early main characters being a goblin girl and a young beholder?
Name: Sam and FuzzyAuthor: Sam LoganReason: The author just released an RPG book where players play as characters from the setting's Underground: a world of vampires, ninja mobsters, robots, etc that is hidden from the above-ground world by a shadowy council. The comic itself is about Sam and Fuzzy, a guy and a bear-guy who start out as taxi drivers, and then get involved with the Ninja Mafia. This comic is like 13 years old holy shit.Link: http://www.samandfuzzy.com/
>>40897678It's in black and white and the art isn't stellar, but oh well.
>>40897686And the following page, as a screenshot of the webpage. The author does a lot of cool things with the fact that it's a webcomic, rather than a printed medium.
>>40889566God I love Requiem Vampire Knight. The art is superb, the writing outstanding and the story engaging. There is literally nothing edgier but it takes that facet and runs with it, all the while making 40K look like the Andy Griffith Show.
>>40898623Heavy Metal writes the most outrageous bullshit and i fucking love it
>>40892667yes, I would find that entertaining.
>>40890190>Schlock Mercenary>Vaguely relatedSchlock Mercenary is when the DM just gives up and goes along with what the group is after - which is murderhoboing with a side of wizard economics.
>>40888369Order of the StickErfworldI feel that erfworld though is better served by its novel style parts rather than its comic style parts though. Especially with the side-stories that have come out.

>>40892207Faggot the poster.>>40892346You know there's a difference between a woman identifying herself as some catkin genderfluid dipshit and a fantasy genderless angel manifesting itself into reality with a physical body and starting to appreciate mortals' shapes and norms? Also, are you so concerned for an angel feeling something it can actually physically become, opposed to some real person's grand delusions of being an animal trapped in a human's body. There's difference between SJW propaganda and fantasy creatures shapeshifting. Also because if that was SJW propaganda they would have pushed the matter too much, overshadowing the cool setting.
>>40898772They've recently released an RPG, so you can now be that DMThough their economics aren't that wizard-y
>>40888369Name: Darths & DroidsAuthors: Andrew Coker, Andrew Shellshear, David Karlov, David McLeish, David Morgan-Mar, Steven Irrgang.Reason: a very interesting plot and comic concept. It uses screen caps from the Star Wars movies (They've gone through The Phantom Menace all the way to the beginning of The Return of The Jedi). The players control the characters and create a version of the Star Wars movies. In their universe Star Wars doesn't exist. The writing is amazing and very well thought out. It's been running for about 7 years now so it has quite a stack of pages (1200 at the moment) and they plan to keep on going into the next trilogy, so there will be no lack of content.http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0001.html
Any that keep being funny the whole time and don't left-turn into serious as soon as the author thinks he's hot shit?
>>40892191It's a race of magical, fantastical creatures doing magical and fantastical things. Humans, dwarves and other races aren't even featured as an important part of the setting - they're just there, like a kobold warren or the rats in an inn-keeper's cellar.

>>40899930>Black Mage? Never heard of him
>>40899880>sapient races are equivalent to giant ratsAnd you don't see the problem with this? Not to mention that the Drow are the only magical race.
>>40900246Correction, fae races are the only native magical races and drow are one of those. There are also demons, which aren't native. Also, sapient races are equivalent to giant rats in loads of other settings. It's a mediocre webcomic but it isn't all about masturbating over how much better drow are than humans or dwarves. Humans and dwarves are literally irrelevant and have no role in the story. They're just scenery and mean nothing to the story. It's not masturbatory (well, not in that way), it just has a specific focus.
>>40900268Okay. Sapient races that aren't Always Evil of some sort. And they definitely do fap to that. You've clearly never been on their forums. From another standpoint, one doesn't just say, "I need a weak enemy race to show how much better my race is. I know! Humans."
>>40900344Why can you say that about goblins, while not being allowed to say that about humans? Also, I have been on their forums as one of the people that took part in that raid years ago. Humans are irrelevant and insignificant and they are not discussed unless an outlier who has a problem with the way humans are treated brings it up.It's a comic that's all about the author's interpretation of drow doing drow things. They aren't getting off to seeing humans get beat up, they aren't getting off to the innate superiority of drow over all other races, they get off to drow doing drow things with other drow with no other race being mentioned or seen at all.
>>40900344>I'm too insecure about my own race to allow other races some spotlight

>>40890015There is no way that a system exists which models Ganglion the Grim.

>>40898772Really? The economics seem pretty reasonable for their whole setting. And they really do have lots of overarching plots, it's hardly the players flagrantly derailiing shit.

>>40894368Grrlpower is great.
>>40902068Hey man, it's an okay story with beautiful art which could reasonably inspire a game. No need to feel angry about it.
>>40902462there is no need, but there is a want
>>40902517Could you give a reason why you don't think it is a good suggestion?
>>40902537Can you give a good reason why "Lesbian Harry Potter" is /tg/ relevant/"approved"?
>>40902591Look, the plot arcs in HP and GK wildly diverge. In fact, they follow very near to the opposite. Plus the comic has not yet been finished which leaves more space to diverge from that standard. In addition it has sufficient plot and enough interesting ideas to get a creative spark going in the mind of a gamer. Of course, all of this is assuming that you are not a troll, which you could be.
>>40902682>it has sufficient plot and enough interesting ideas to get a creative spark going in the mind of a gamerOh congratulations, that includes only, oh I don't know, FUCKING EVERYTHING you goddamn inbred.I got inspiration for a worldbuilding concept for a setting I'm working on from riding a goddamn jetski, so does that mean we should have "/tg/ approved" Jetski Generals?
>>40902715>does that mean we should have "/tg/ approved" Jetski Generals?Well, I would probably get more new ideas there than in a "magic school" webcomic.
>>40902715It is entirely possible that you did get inspiration from a jetski. However, jetski are not varied enough in design to create a thread relying entirely on inspiration from jetskis. On the other hand comics have a massive variety and with enough available you could easily find one which would put a good thought in your head or get the mental gears turning. This thread is designed to simply speed up that process.
>>40902770But anon! It has lesbians! And robots! And tomboy dykes! Truly it is the very model of originality!>>40902784>jetski are not varied enough in design to create a thread relying entirely on inspiration from jetskisThis is how I know you're an ignorant landlubber who knows nothing about jetskis.
Comic: The BusAuthor: Paul KirchnerReason: I like it and I browse /tg/, therefore it is board relevant and /tg/ approved. Because that appears to be the only criteria for these godawful offtopic threads.
>>40902805But anon! You're simplifing a 52 chapter and growing plot into 4 things which are somewhat related to the main overarching plot line which focuses on father-daughter relationships, mythology and family!
>>40902805Would a martial school based on jetskies even work? Could an entire society be built upon jetskies?
>>40902847Look, what should occur in this thread is things which are truly related to /tg/ or are so good or interesting that they deserve the attention of /tg/.
>>40902926Deep questions. Maybe we SHOULD make a jetski general.
>>40888369I can't believe not ONE person has mentioned Paranatural
>>40902864But anon! You're simplifying a complex 300 horsepower and and 60 years of growing technological development into one thing that is only somewhat related to the overarching category of Personal Watercraft, which focuses on speed, maneuverability, ease of access, and fun!>>40902926>Would a martial school based on jetskies even work? Like Bike-Fu, but on the water. It would be even more impressive because you could utilize your own wake and slung water in your various arts.>Could an entire society be built upon jetskies?Waterworld had jetski raiders. It would be like a biker gang, but on the water.
>>40894368>>40902178I honestly feel like Grrlpower is a comic that puts way too much effort into wearying exposition and trying to be "smart".
Okay, we are derailing this, let's focus on comics related to or of interest to /tg/, not watercraft.
>>40902946>truly related to /tg/So you mean board games, tabletop games, card games, and PnP RPGs? Because comics are none of those things.>are so good or interesting that they deserve the attention of /tg/.>deserve the attention of /tg/>implying /tg/ is some holy mecca of good tasteJudging by this thread, I should start taking pictures of dogshit and posting it on /tg/, as that would only improve board content. Also, your previous criteria of "inspires gamers" means literally ANY comic is deserving of /tg/'s attention. Maybe The Bus inspired me to run a surrealist Call of Cthulu campaign that takes place entirely on a bus and even if it didn't, it might inspire someone else to. Ergo, it's just as board relevant as Magical Dykes or Cringeworthy Attempts At Snarky Characters Webcomic #324234.
>>40902980>It would be even more impressive because you could utilize your own wake and slung water in your various arts. That sounds rad as fuck. The wake, used cleverly, could open up a lot of stunts and battlefield control.A lot of "I didn't miss" followed by the wake hitting something else.
>>40903055>Maybe The Bus inspired me to run a surrealist Call of Cthulu campaign that takes place entirely on a busI know you are being sarcastic, but that also sounds great.Jetski martial combat and a bus based Call of Cthulu campaign. I swear to God I'm loving these ideas. Do you have more?
>>40903055If you think that The Bus would improve the quality or help give people ideas. It is intended to help people have a more enjoyable gaming experience out of those ideas.
>>40903068>A lot of "I didn't miss" followed by the wake hitting something else.Jetski wakes aren't that powerful, unless we're dealing with crazy futuretech jetskis that operate at like 300mph and purposefully cut deeper into the water (which opens up a whole new slew of variables to consider in and of itself, especially if you make this futureski being able to have variable wake settings at the cost of speed or maneuverability). In reality, a jetski's wake would more likely be used to create your own "ramps" to jump off of, disorient pursuers by creating speed bumps for them, or allowing teammates to move faster and then jump out from behind you by drafting in your wake.If you want more inspiration, check out the game Bloodwake. It had pretty fun ocean physics for an Xbox Original game.
>>40903101Alchemy based alignment systems.
>>40902110All the angels are genderless and sexless, being giant clouds of formless vapor (or liquid) flame covered in eyes bound into the armor which gives them form and physical presence. However, they normally present themselves as male, for convenience's sake. One of the angels, 82 White Chain Bound In Emptiness Returns To Subdue Evil, has gotten rather attached to the world of mortals and adopted an extremely human body image and female gender.Because this kinda looks vaguely like being transgender if you squint, it is therefore Tumblr. Also, the author has a Tumblr.
>>40903101>I know you are being sarcastic, but that also sounds great. It's certainly better than "Harry Potter, but with lesbians and furries with eternal morning wood"
>>40903132>unless we're dealing with crazy futuretech jetskis that operate at like 300mph and purposefully cut deeper into the waterWe most certainly are now!>>40903139Meh.>>40903158Sounds terrible. Does it actually have furries with morning wood? Is that a thing the author specifies?
>>40903158Hey, now there's an actual joke instead of pretending that lesbians are some kind of bad factor in storytelling.
>>40903188One of the characters bodies is literally made out of wood. Beware his terrifying gardening powers.
>>40903192>pretending that lesbians are some kind of bad factor in storytellingThere's no need to pretend. Lesbians in fiction only exist for one of three reasons: outdated "shock" appeal, progressivist pandering, or fanservice. Really cringey comedic relief too, if you're Japanese. But no, keep on telling me about how Gone Home is like, so totally art and I just don't understand.
>>40903192>underage lesbiansYeah, gonna have to sign on the line that says "bad factor in storytelling."
>>40903221Would be fine if it was a heterosexual relationship between two minors?
>>40903188>We most certainly are now!Well in that case you can most certainly do crazier shit. Like some sort of Seismic Pulse Emitter that basically acts like a giant fucking boulder just got dropped in the in water and blasts a circular wave out from the jetski, or steal the Wave Gun from Bloodwake and literally shoot "wakes" at people, sending them flying. That shit was fun.Oh, and it should go without saying that all jetskis should come equipped with blades on each side for high speed jousting/duels, as well as gnarly decapitations via wake jumping.
>>40903250Is one of them a spider? Because that's the only time I'll allow it.

>>40903710Good old Ben "Gas the Kikes" Garrison.
>>40902591It has nothing in common with Harry Potter besides being set in one of those dystopian British schools where children are taken from their parents, and also magic.
>>40903731You also said anything that inspires gamers is /tg/ related, therefore Ben Garrison or even /v/ metahumor comics are all fair game.
>>40903731Didn't you know? Traditional gaming apparently has no meaning here besides "I want to discuss this right now"
>>40903735>Would guns be allowed, or considered dishonorabru?Super dishonorable. Maybe they don't even exist in this water world built on jets. Punches and kicks are fine, but at the speed these things are going they are also very risky.
>>40903735Wait guys. I've got an idea. Alchemical jetskis.
>>40903748>It has nothing in common with Harry Potter besides sharing the same central premiseI get what you're trying to say, but you didn't really do a fantastic job at saying it.
http://malkydungeon.com/wordpress/Basically a comic about a minor wizard in modern Scotland trying to take down an evil spirit. It's short, and the dialogue has a heavy Scotch accent, but worth a look especially if you like Celtic mythology or Dark Age Scotland.
>>40903785I'd say that the premise is the same but the plot is different.
>>40903816I wouldn't even say the premise is the same. The boarding schools are similar only insofar as they are both members of the class "boarding school." The magic is similar only insofar as they both fall under the wide umbrella of "magic."By the same metric, Apollo 13 and Star Wars have the same premise - They are both dramatic stories taking place in spaceships, with a plot centering around a critical design flaw.
Actually /tg/ related comicshttp://tsoalr.com/Turn signals on a land raiderhttp://thenoobcomic.com/index.phpLooks like the website is broken right now sadly.

Of course mindless dump threads where anons get to brag about their oh so amazing hipster comics are going to go well. That's like priding yourself on starting a filename or screencap thread. The only good thing that came out of it was some talk about jetskis, and you couldn't stop bitching and moaning about how much that triggered you. Your kind is better off on sites like Reddit.
>>40904037>You do realise that is the exact same argument that is used againstI think you mean "for."If you told me I had a choice between a story that is about about a well-rounded "modern" man who's in touch with his emotional side and works as a consultant for a financial firm and has to deal with some sort of relationship difficulties, and a hyper-muscled cunning savage who cuts his way into an ancient temple and kidnaps the priestess after fighting the lizardman guards, it's a pretty easy choice. There's nothing wrong with male power fantasies, because male power fantasies are fucking awesome.

Just basically swapping one 'agenda' for another.>>40904219The equivalency lies in how you and 'SJW' both completely denounce any merit to a creative work because one aspect of a character in that work offends your sensibilities."I don't like a thing (be it because you're tired of overzealous proponents of it, or genuinely bothered by the concept of homosexuality, i don't care), so anything related to it, or involving any semblance of it must be terrible at best and a threat to my way of life at worst."I mean, the writing is the same quality, so if it was simply the direction the character progressed that bothered you then that says more about your own sensibilities than it does the comic. If you did'nt like it before then im sure you have plenty of legitimate criticisms. But its not a false equivalency to say that in condemning a work for broaching a subject you don't like is exactly the same as some other group condemning a work cause it had beefcake on the cover. Just like its the same thing as fanbases suddenly rejecting canon cause their favorite fan theory didn't pan out."Its not pandering to my tastes, so its shit."
>>40904418But how can he take credit for this awesome thread without names and upvotes?!

>>40904470>Yet the argument isn't remotely the same. But they are. They all boil down to "No story relating to X subject can be good." Because muh pandering or muh sogge knees or muh-whatever other bullshit. The point im making is that this stance is shit, and trying to push it on others is just as shit as trying to push whatever ideology that motivates it on them.Making up stories, in any medium is much like playing an RPG, i mean besides the making up stories part, in that you can have a great time playing with friends even if the system (or that knee-jerk inducing theme) is FATAL. You can have fun in spite, or in rare cases because of the things you otherwise would outright reject. This goes doubly for when those themes are just an out of the way subplot. I mean fuck sakes, it barely comes up in the case of GK. Now I'm not saying that there isnt such a thing as pandering or preaching through your story, or dumb hamfisted ways to handle things. Of course there are, the point is to distinguish between legit literary criticism of some author tiredly trying to force his opinions on you (cant come up with a webcomic example of the top of my head), or bending over backwards to please a rabidly vocal part of the readers (Goblins), or retarded characters whos one dimension is litterally 'hurr durr homosex lol' (too many to count), versus writing a story about a subject that often falls into one of these traps.tl;drRejecting something out of hand "Becuz lesbiuns" is as retarded as rejecting it because "mel powur fantusy" - simply find a solid criticism if you want to shit on something.
>>40904825>Talk about traditional gamesWhat do shitty lesbo comics have to do with traditional games? >be excellent and party on dudesWell meme'd, my friend!
>>40904864>They all boil down to "No story relating to X subject can be good."Every debate boils down to that if you reduce it past the point of all rationality.
Listen, I never claimed that my ideas were awesome. Hell, the whole jetskis thing was a great idea. I want to be a better citizen of this community, and I can't do that if you don't tell me how. What am I doing wrong, what am I doing right and how can I do better.
>>40904895>Every debate boils down to that if you reduce it past the point of all rationality.>Implying there was any rationality to reduce
>>40904445You're REALLY stretching the concept of equivalency, well beyond any reasonable degree. There may be something "similar" about the arguments, but you're really glossing over the finer details in order to make a point which falls to pieces when those differences are examined. No one denounced anything aside from how including a fetish into a work alters the work. You can't just have a character say "Hey, it's not really important to the plot, but I think I'm going to masturbate to a picture of someone's feet" and expect people to just casually ignore that or treat it like it's a common action to undertake. It's like how Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser both have very relaxed attitudes towards rape, with both of them being implied rapists and at the very least not really considering it something to be alarmed about any more than murder or theft. This isn't the sort of thing that doesn't affect the entire tone of those books, for better and worse, with a sense that the heroes are not always and entirely pristine in their heroism. In fact, the Gray Mouser's entire character revolves around him being a scoundrel with airs while Fafhrd is a barely-civilized barbarian, and the casual approach towards rape really nails these features down. If you introduce something controversial, you are never doing it casually. Revealing that a character had incestual relationships with a parent isn't something you can just try to slip into a character's background information in a show for small children, nor is it really a minor detail to have a character announce that they've fantasized about going knot-deep with the group's canine mascot. If you include it, you are making a statement.Think of it like choosing your battles. You have a limited amount of topics you can seriously talk about with the full level of gravity they deserve, so what controversial elements you bring into your work end up defining it, for better or worse.
>>40904907Anon, you have to realize when you are being trolled. Turn off your computer, go take a walk and come back tomorrow.
>>40904943>It's like how Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser both have very relaxed attitudes towards rape [. . .] not really considering it something to be alarmed about any more than murderThat's just the logical approach: rape is not more alarming than murder.

>>40905018Or political grandstanding within fiction.
>>40905042I am not attempting to troll here. I genuinely think that reading some comics could give some people ideas and insight into traditional games. Different perspective and all that.
>>40905007Murder, or at least killing, can serve a purpose. Both heroes kill people who try to kill them almost routinely, and even the notion of killing someone in order to accomplish a goal at least presents the pretense that it might be performed out of necessity rather than personal desire. Even theft can be performed for the sake of feeding a family. On the other hand, rape is really just a purposeless crime that only in the most convoluted (and I mean, really, really, convoluted) scenario would ever be considered a necessary action.
>>40905068Most trolls say that

>>40904943You make a lot of points i agree with, but...>No one denounced anything... where i butted into the conversation was when someone posted that everything involving the topic of lesbianism was this or that brand of shit, or porn. Rejecting the work solely on the premise of one subplot, using the very same argument (because this topic, the work is shit) with the same basis (one small aspect of the work in question) as many if not most of the politically motivated "critics" on tumblr. And that is a load of horse shit, regardless of what aspect of a story bothers you, because you can write a good story about anything. Now sure, it might not be for you, but walking into a 'recomendations thread' to condemn a work outright for having an aspect associated with a bunch of bothersome people who regularly condemn works based on single aspects that bother them, is kind of ironic.

>>40905304The point he was making was that portraying lesbianism in the manner in which the story did both affected the overall quality of the work, as well as reflected attitudes inherent within the work. You can't just try and remove a part of the story when the author made a considerable effort to put it in, and including lesbians warps the story in order to accommodate them.Think of it this way.Rowling said that Dumbledore was gay outside of the book series, but she never explicitly said it within the book series. At best, she could only allude to it, and at the end of the day, with only the body of text to be examined, Dumbledore's sexuality was eternally debatable. This wasn't an accident. It's because Rowling understood that including such an explicit statement would actually reduce the quality of her work, and in fact even demean any statement about love that Dumbledore would preach, especially when preached to a young boy with attachment issues. Rowling wasn't afraid to cash in on tumblr points and was always sympathetic to the gay community, but she understood exactly what she would have to do to the story in order to make a major character gay instead of just vaguely alluding to it, and she recognized she didn't want to effectively ruin her story just to make a political statement, when she could make that statement outside of the story. On the other side of things, we had the Legend of Korra, which hamfisted a series of bizarre character-defying scenes into the story in order to try and construct an emotionless and implausible political statement, weakening the story throughout and ultimately providing an unsatisfying ending. It's just a topic that you can't casually bring up, because it's not a typical romance in any regard except through a delusional, propaganda-fueled lens. Even trying to present it as a typical romance is a weighted statement, and that's never really going to change, no matter how much some people might wish otherwise.
>>40905744>The point he was making was that portraying lesbianism in the manner in which the story did both affected the overall quality of the work, as well as reflected attitudes inherent within the work. You can't just try and remove a part of the story when the author made a considerable effort to put it in, and including lesbians warps the story in order to accommodate them.Just like any other element introduced beyond the premise. If the argument had been more about how it was handled in the work in question i would have agreed this was the point being made. Instead it was a blanket statement, that in all cases these inclusions are made for a tight set of reasons, all of which (to me) implied the story was shit because of it.>It's just a topic that you can't casually bring up, because it's not a typical romance in any regard except through a delusional, propaganda-fueled lens.Seperate debate, but unless you mean statistically then no, of course the day that is the norm is only shortly before the human race dies off, or has transformed into that clone society from Forever War. But if its not 'atypical' in the statistical representation sense then we're in "What is love?" territory which isn't something you can so easily go out and make authoritative statements on.

You began with the assumption that homosexual relationships in comics are a heavy statement and then moved from there, but you never proved your starting point.A homosexual man talking about love to a young boy is no different than a heterosexual man talking about love to a young girl.If you want to argue that homosexuals relationships have no place in fiction if not as a political statement you have to prove it, because that's not the widely accepted opinion anymore.

>>40906070>then we're in "What is love?" territory which isn't something you can so easily go out and make authoritative statements on.The fact of the matter is that it is a debate, and one that is silly to bring up because it's such an all-encompassing distraction. That's really what it's been built up to be, carefully and with calculated intent, where the only right move is to not bring up the topic in the first place if you actually want people to pay attention to the rest of your story. It's why it's a taboo topic on most boards, because all it does is churn up the same debates with neither side willing to give up any ground. It's the sort of thing that needs to be discussed with an almost impossible degree of maturity in order to make any real exchange of ideas possible, despite it being ultimately an immature topic that has been given undo airs. It's not even a debate on "what is love?" but really just a debate on "what's the appropriate way to express a fetish?"Treating it like any other fetish is easily the best way to go about the whole topic. Don't bring it up, never make any explicit statements, and just let the readers apply their own ideas wherever they feel they're appropriate. Hell, if you have two girls simply wave at each other, people will write up slash fiction about them. And scat fiction. And one of them is going to have sex with a dolphin.

I get that you're trying to make a point, but this is just silly to the degree where pointing out all the differences between the two would probably take me a couple hundred years of cultural examination as well as a series of complicated lectures on the nature of love and it's myriad forms, and at some point we would actually have to discuss and define whether heterosexual/homosexual are anything other than bizarre modern constructs that have are merely propaganda fueled tools to adjust public opinion.Simply put, your statement is some pretty poor propaganda.>because that's not the widely accepted opinion anymore.Actually, the widely accepted opinion is to continue to keep those relationships segregated, labled, and kept largely idealized. There is a "place", and it's been the same sort of place it's always been: Either some sort of lewd service, a girl's idea of a forbidden romance, a political statement, or a joke.People are still not really ready to look at homosexual relationships in how they appear in reality, because that stuff isn't something anyone actually wants to look at, either because it destroys their idealized fantasies, conflicts with propaganda that promotes the fetish as nothing but a bundle of pure positivity, or they just find it downright disgusting.A community defined by assisted masturbation isn't exactly made of pure rainbows and sparkles.

>>40906560Stories dont have to deal in absolutes. There is one thing to court controversy, it is another entirely to play with elements that may be tainted by people who SEEK controversy. The latter, regardless of what side they are on, are a bunch of frothing retards and should not be allowed to dictate the conversation, let alone the broad field of fiction. It is not the authors responsibility to bend over backwards to make their work and vision as tame and bland as to be accepted by everyone, and to do so is its own form of pandering, politically neutral as it may be. Art, fiction included needs an interesting vision and strong execution. Bland shit of either, weather dulled down by a lack of conviction, or tainted by a need to force rather than present ideas will make the work boring, needlessly controversial and/or shit.Simply put, someone will always be offended. Simply put, it's a can of worms, not a closed debate, and pretending it's a closed debate is just opening up another can of worms. And probably needlessly so because they'll be offended anyway. Allowing the hot button issue of the day to decide what you're allowed to write is a bad idea. Especially since fiction can provide a window to a lot of interesting ideas and viewpoints. What im saying is that an author shouldnt be afraid to express themselves in their fiction just cause some people take issue with the subject matter. With the caveat of course, that if what you wanted to do was write a political essay, do that instead.>There's a time and place for that debate, and it's certainly not with idealized fiction at its center. That's exactly it. The debate should be over the subject, or the presentation, not the presentation of a subject. I know full well that isn't how it is, but we'll never get anywhere by accepting the status quo. Instead an author should stick to their guns and engage with the reasonable voices, to build or promote community and discussion amongst those, and let the worms fester in their can somewhere else.Debate isn't unhealthy, and offense likewise should be expressed, but the outrage culture we got going these days is not something to give in to.
>>40907554>citation neededReally, what you're even arguing about are two concepts that don't even have closed definitions. Ignoring how silly it is to even ask what "Normal" is, "Homosexuality" is still a topic that is up to debate as to what exactly it means, since even the question of sexual orientation/ sexual preference hasn't been settled. And, if you really want to play a numbers game, why not ask the entire world? Oh, looks like the majority openly condemn the concept, and many countries still punish sodomites with death.
