Michael flips through the pages on his data pad, dismissing old emails and canceling meetings. The waiting room holds a small holoscreen with a local news channel on mute, the captions scrolling quickly along the bottom of the display. It shows a crowd of police around the perimeter of an aircar up ramp just down the street from the Parliament building a number of dogs pull their leashes along the road, and the bulky uniforms of a bomb squad can be seen waiting on standby. Not far from the up-ramp, partly obscured by the crowds and buildings, the streets are filled with grounded air cars, many with the flashing blue lights of government officials lined bumper to bumper.Someone calls Michael’s name and he quickly gets up from his seat. >>40747874[Special Project Finished]The strange abnormalities discovered within the Obsidian Queen’s ships seem connected to a kind of hive creep, based on what seems to be a highly aggressive form of alien flora. In a manner that seems to be almost reminiscent of the spores of Leeland, but in a far more advanced and weaponized fashion, the ships of the Obsidian Queen contain clusters of potent spores which, when mixed with any non-hive life, will begin to consume, spread, and assimilate any found nutrients into hive structure, spreading creep in a fully autonomous and aggressive manner that seems programmed to automatically overharvest a planet. Integrating this new technology into your own hive would take some time to do safely, but it has also revealed new avenues of research that you thinkers were previously stumped on, or had outright missed.Finished Research>SuncasterBy wrapping a metal slug in an envelope of magnetic fields containing a layer of super-heated plasma, this weapon is capable of dealing a tremendous amount of damage. It specializes in armor penetration, but is heavy and unwieldly, inferring penalties to the drone that equips it.[New weapon unlocked]>Plasma CannonA hybrid of slug thrower and energy weapon, this weapon utilizes a magnetically charged bullet to contain a payload of super-heated plasma, permitting a drastic increase in range over other plasma based weapons. It is bulky and unwieldly in combat, and any drone not equipped with a heavy carapace cannot move while firing the weapon. While it is perfectly adept at obliterating soft targets, it is designed to be most effective against heavy armor, and is considered a support weapon, fired from fixed positions, heavy drones, or from the backs or tails of large drones.Size: MDmg: MediumRoF: HighRng: MediumAcc: LowSpecial: Armor Piercing – Attacks with this weapon ignore unit armor. Does not apply to ships or buildings.
I want to give Michael a ghost queeny hug for helping the hive so far...
>>40747919>Variable strike weaponBy utilizing a complex and highly compact compartmentalized ammo storage system within a the weapon, a projectile weapon can be made to switch rapidly between multiple different ammunition types. As your thinkers take apart the device, they recover and isolate samples of some of these different ammo types for further study. Projectile weapons can now hold a total of three alternate ammunition types in addition to the default.>Privy coatBy integrating the technology of the specially designed smuggler device into your own drones and technology, you can adapt the hive to be more difficult to detect with standard security scanners, obscuring cybernetics, mutations, and weapons carried by drones, clones, or agents of the hive. This effect is passive, but stealth oriented adaptations and augments, such as mimetic skin or semi-fluid bone tissue greatly improves the effect. The specialized stealth suit provided with the mimic skin augment now also functions as a privy coat.>Magnetized slugsBy utilizing a complex array of electromagnets to subtly adjust and polarize the metals within a fired projectile, your weapons are able to reduce the effects of various conditions that impede accuracy, such as recoil, weather conditions, or to help zero in on vulnerable locations in armor. All projectile weapons gain increased accuracy and armor penetration against targets utilizing metal armor. (passive)>Gravity foilsThese metallic wings are able to alter gravity fields directly around the drone, granting a silent, fast, and highly maneuverable method of flight. Large or heavy drones can make equal use of it, although they are slower and less maneuverable. (8N 10M)
>>40747876I'm game for an alliance with the green party to Fuck the guy over especially since we now know that the reason the bigger queen is weak right now is because our mom wrecked her.
>>40747943>Boarding podsThis simple pod launcher is a modified version of the drop pod launcher, and is capable of firing specially designed pods capable of penetrating the hull of a space craft, allowing the drones within to enter and assault the crew within. The target ship’s shields must be down first, and there is a risk of missing the target and losing the drones if the ship’s engines are still operational. An unshielded ship that is tethered to the launching ship via a ship grapple will automatically succeed. The statistics are the same as the Drop Pod launcher, however the boarding pods fired are specialized, and are large sized, making use of thicker armor and specialized internal protection systems to absorb the impact with the target hull. Each pod carries 20 medium drones and costs 50M to fire. Large drones cannot be deployed in this way, as they do not fit within the confines of most ship corridors, and cannot fit within the newly designed pod along with the needed armor and safety systems.>Ground-orbital mega-constructionBy constructing a station in orbit of a planet, and stringing a cable between it and a ground station, you can create a tower spanning from the surface of a planet into orbit. Such a structure is expensive and fragile, but offers a number of excellent benefits.
>>40747943>Gravity foilsHow does this compare to our wings?Should we give this to our flies, or does it compromise thier stealth?
>>40747978[New Construction Project Unlocked]>Capillary Tower – This massive organic space elevator offers a number of logistical and economic advantages, despite its drastic up front cost and fragile nature. Shuttles or space craft are no longer needed to move resources from the surface to orbital structures, freeing shuttles for more important tasks. The counterweight station serves as a center for construction, with 4 docking pylons included on the structure to repair and build ships, while gaining a bonus to capital ship construction time due to the speedy nature with which resources arrive from the surface. The Capillary Tower can also spread hive creep and extract resources at an increased rate, spreading roots deep into the crust to bring up resources directly into orbit, allowing you to consume a planet much more quickly than normal. A Hive ship can construct a Capillary Tower if given the time and resources to do so, deploying one after 3 full days, after which it becomes the counterweight station, and must remain stationary until it detaches and destroys the tower to move. A Hive ship deployed in this way does not have access to its spinal weapons, but can use other features as normal. A planet can hold a max of 4 Capillary Towers along its equator. For each one, planetary mining or over harvest activities are doubled. (50,000N 500,000M)
>>40748014New Research Unlocked>Plasma Assault CannonFastYour thinkers believe it would be rather easy to scale up the plasma cannon, using the same principles, but on a similar scale as the Rotary Stinger or Thorn Cannon, turning a powerful anti-armor weapon into a direct fire siege weapon that would likely make for a powerful bunker buster and anti-structure weapon.>Micro rocketFastA miniaturized, unguided missile that utilizes a small amount of propellant to maintain its trajectory and boost its velocity before embedding itself within the target and detonating for maximum damage. The rocket itself is a form of smart ordinance, and can be set to detonate at a predetermined time, such as after penetrating a wall or door, or within a certain range of a target, or within the target. The rocket deals more damage at longer range, but infers a penalty to accuracy and rate of fire.>Auto-harvest podsMediumA number of pods that can be placed within some ships, allowing them to spread hive spores over an enemy planet when destroyed. These pods could, theoretically, also be launched from drop pods for a similar effect.>High-altitude spore dispersalMediumBy spraying modified hive spores from a capillary tower at high altitude, the tower gains the ability to spread hive creep several magnitudes faster than any other method you have, contaminating the surface of an entire hemisphere in a mere day, although the creep itself grows at normal speed. The spores are visible as a greenish fog that permeates the atmosphere, especially around the tower itself, and is toxic to non-hive life, forcing any enemies of the hive to make use of rebreathers or air filters. The spores can be made to carry other chemicals or biological agents.>Atmospheric static generatorMediumBy utilizing the natural friction of a sufficiently dense atmosphere against the surface of a capillary tower, the tower can be made to generate energy to feed itself and reduce its upkeep cost.
So I've been thinking that since Lee and/or Elizabeth will be our representatives they need their own Honor Guard while among the treacherous diplomats.Chimaera's in a vaguely humanoid form given the best of our cybernetics, including those black scales to give the appearance of full body armor.

>>40748014we tyranids now
>>40748014what are the negatives of this?
>>40748014Yo, we gotta make one right now on leeland.
>>40748046Could we also get a research option to make a.. thing to destroy the BQ's own auto-creep?So that if we find BQ's creep somewhere, we just hose it down with our biological agent and we're done for the day. Or have a sort of benign tumor creep made to hunt down her creep.
>>40748046Current Research>Rip DriveMediumA powerful, and accurate drive system, it does not move the equipped ship, but allows the ship to rip open a hole in spacetime, creating something akin to an artificial wormhole that bridges the ship's current location with a location of its choosing within its range. This allows not only the ship to move through the rupture, but also allows it to open ruptures for other craft, allowing for the deployment of sub-light craft over vast interstellar distances.>KataFastBy studying and testing the data granted by your predictive algorithms and your knowledge of alien biology, your thinkers believe that they can create a number of potent combat maneuvers to bolster the combat potential of your clones and non-drone agents, allowing them to fight with similar instinctive aggression as your warriors, but adapted to the limitations and abilities of the individual’s biology.>Deep Core MiningSlowTaking planetary mining to the logical extreme, your thinkers believe that your hive infrastructure, if spread across the surface of a world and given enough time, would be able to consume the ferrous metal core of a planet itself.>Ship grappleMediumA simple idea at heart; throw a hook at the target and reel it in. When you take into account the relative speeds and raw kinetic forces involved in such an action, however, it quickly stops being so simple. Complex and highly durable cables and pulleys must be developed, as well as specialized bulkheads to prevent ripping the ship in two. The result, however, should be interesting, if a bit insane.>>40748011They are better then wings on a planet's surface, worse in deep space (so long as the wings are still not in a vacuum. In a vacuum the wings don't work at all, but the foils still do.)They could be detected by G-feild sensors, but are otherwise more quiet and in general more stealthy.
>>40748079you want to get out of hiding?Since this building basically goes above the cloud cover.
>>40748130We already stopped hiding
>RamMediumThe concept of ramming in ship to ship combat is simple and straight forward. Doing so without obliterating your own ship, however, is a far more complex skill to master that requires numerous alterations to ship design philosophy and a willful lack of common sense. The Scavengers appear to be insane enough to have thought such a strategy useful in space combat, and are stubborn enough to perfect it. The study and extensive testing of the design of the ram should allow you to develop something similar for your own ships.>Artificial gravity platingMediumBy utilizing insignificant amounts of antimatter to create unfocused gravitational fields, and then directing them through the gravity plating into a single direction, the internal structure of a ship can be granted a small amount of artificial gravity. White the direction of the gravity can be changed at will, or turned off, it lacks the resources and energy to project a field capable of directly causing injury>Gravity thrustersSlowSimilar in function to your Skid drive, the Gravity thrusters essentially surf along pre-existing gravity fields, increasing their performance when in close proximity to major sources of gravitational pull, be it a large celestial body, a star, a planet, an exceptionally large structure or group of structures, or the core of a gravity drive. While in deep space it becomes less effective, the law of universal gravitation means it never becomes totally useless, and when in close proximity to a powerful gravity source it should outperform most other thruster designs with ease.>>40748078It costs a lot, and is about as durable as tissue paper. If an attacker gets even a glancing blow on it, it will shatter.
>>40748130Dude we already cover the entirety of the planet with our creep. We already showed our fleet. Hiding's ogre man, it's ogre.

>>40748158some anons last thread sounded like they wanted to keep hiding to the point of basically almost revealing ourselves to try and kill killinger.
>>40748171How is weather tower go along?
>>40748180>>40748176Oh i know just surprised you guys are willing to come out of hiding when last thread anons had a completely different attitude.
>>40748171>Shield miniaturizationMediumWith your new understanding, previously unknown aspects of standard shield technology can be seen in a new light, indicating a small overlap between it and gravitational manipulation technology. By using newly developed technology, your thinkers suspect that they may be able to create a more compact, but less powerful shield system.>Psionic readingMediumYou are already aware of this growing ability in Elizabeth, and with her help, and more research into the remains of the dead relay, you should be able to continue to fine tune your new, more powerful psionic senses to be able to not only detect the presence of sapient thought, but to read it in more detail.>Photonic microstructuresSlowThe useful applications of manipulating massive photonic molecules are many, and your preliminary studies indicate that you may be able to develop more practical uses beyond the blaster, especially in the field of energy shielding.>Nausea fieldSlowA rather interesting side effect first noticed with your Blink drive, but now weaponized to great effect as a defensive measure. You should be able to enhance your medium and advanced relays to emit a wave of sickening nausea in a radius around it, causing effected subjects to feel increasing levels of both physical and mental uneasiness, causing feelings of dread and queasiness.
>>40748182I think we should reveal ourselves too fuck over killinger. Once we reveal ourselves we can selectively let ourselves get ""exploited"" by selling materials/resources at pitifully low prices, this would be done particularly in whatever resources the companies killinger owns, operates, or is funded by sell. This would effectively kill his political campaigning ability and bankrupt him.
>>40748221My attitude is to stop actively hiding.
>>40747791Hive quest! Glad I made it, I've missed a lot of threads lately. Sad we didn't get to see the commonwealth communications last thread.
>>40748223>Solid State TeleportationSlowWhile standard quantum systems allow for instantaneous transportation of data, this technology would allow for essentially the instantaneous transport of matter. The matter in question would be disassembled into individual particles and transported in much the same way as bits of data through a quantum relay, and then assembled on the other side. Due to the nature of the process, only simple objects such as raw resources could survive teleportation. This should allow for the transportation of resources across hive space without the need to delegate ships to serve as trade vessels.>Quantum TuningMediumWhile current quantum computing technology requires the relays be built to accommodate one another, this technology should allow you to quickly attune pre-existing devices for one another when in proximity. Your thinkers suspect more opportunities to open up after further research is done. You suspect Theseus would greatly appreciate such a technology, if he does not already poses it. Available research options>Psionic Cannon prototypeVery slow/Very dangerousDetailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.>>40748218Weather spires are going well, and will be built once your workers have finished the missile system. Defensive structures take priority unless you vote otherwise.

>>40748289>Add all new research>Add some (write in)>Wait for current research to finish>Other>>40748303Not really sure. Psionic reading is decently close to finished, as is grav plating. Kata will probably be finished regardless of what you do or don't add to the que, it's just about done. Otherwise I just give each one a d100 per day and either apply a bonus or penalty based on the roll.>>40748360Your parasites can hide from just about anything short of a full MRI. I won't even ask for a roll, honestly. Plus he has a ship to board in a few hours. If you want to stalk the doctor home with some flies, you can do so easily Despite their importance, doctors are not guarded or monitored with the same zeal as government workers.
>>40748460>>Add all new research
>>40748460All new, baby.

>>40748460>Add all new research
>>40747919Hey, this Plasma Cannon is based on the Suncaster. But is its plasma ammo really entirely different from what the much smaller variable strike weapon called "plasma rounds"?>Dillon takes his own weapon out of the holster. "It's voice activated if you want, but it's got a thumb switch as well. It can switch between anti-armor, soft target, micro-rocket, high-ex, and plasma rounds, and the first two have semi or fully automatic settings."It seemed to be small and not unwieldly like the Compensator, but still had plasma ammo.
>>40747943>>Gravity foils>These metallic wings are able to alter gravity fields directly around the drone, granting a silent, fast, and highly maneuverable method of flight. Large or heavy drones can make equal use of it, although they are slower and less maneuverable. (8N 10M)Neato. QD, how fast can a drone fly with these? Could it reach the same speed as it could with a ramjet engine?
>>40748046soonsoon we shall become the devourer of worlds
>>40748460>Add all new researchWe should do a full conversion of all our medium drones from standard wings to gravity wings. They are better in every aspect.
>>40748619No wings can reach the sheer speeds provided by ramjet engines. We could replace advanced aerodynamic wings with these to give stealth aircraft an alternate cruising mode though.Along that line of thinking, we should hold a vote at the end of the thread to replace the wings on Support Fluttercraft with these.
>>40748625But anon, those worlds are a tremendously valuable and irreplaceable resource. It is far more profitable in the long run to simply take control of a planet and employ its biosphere to produce a steady stream of nutrients for the hive.
>>40748661Or just make a variant
>>40748697This is always proposed as an alternative, but variants hardly ever get the votes to get made.
>>40748721I personally think that if we replaced it all with grav foils we'd be better off in the long run, considering the capabilities it has in no-grav. The lo-grav downgrade is not that important.
>>40748661While that would allow our fluttercraft to be far stealthier at subsonic speeds, that would also raise the cost even higher while rendering its echolocation useless in such conditions. Still, it was always intended to be the stealthiest airdrone of the hive, it might just be worth it. I'm kinda divided on the issue, personally.
>>40748681No, no, we devour heavily defended core worlds. That way once we establish a foothold, we don't have to go through all the difficulty of slogging through multiple layers of defense. We can just eat their planet.
The only downside to the grav wings is the cost. A full conversion is bad, but operational craft and heavy warriors would benefit. Maybe even standard warriors.
>>40748781the towers are very fragile
>>40748834That's why you heavily defend them, and seed their atmosphere with spores.
>>40748760They are better then wings on a planet's surface, worse in deep space (so long as the wings are still not in a vacuum. In a vacuum the wings don't work at all, but the foils still do.)They could be detected by G-feild sensors, but are otherwise more quiet and in general more stealthy.
>>40748848on a heavily defended enemy world?
>>40748764>Rendering its echolocation useless in such conditionsHow?And it's already so expensive that we might as well give it all the fancy shit we can. The price increase by percentage will be negligible, and we have plenty of nutrients anyway.
>>40748870What part of 'once we establish a foothold' don't you understand?
>>40748460Ok then he other thing is, we have to ensure we have a Theseus on hand when Devon gets on board the ship.I wonder if Theseus can manage to slip into the ship's network and get into the sensor systems while they're still running and transmitting continuously as if nothing happened.
>>40748869I don't think they'd be detected by G-Field, they're far too small. And besides, they're not for stealth ships, but for drones.
>>40748905I know just restating what the QM said. Also are they better than advanced wings?
>>40748781>Implying any sort of defences could stand up to a protracted zerg rush by the hiveBuddy, buddy, have you been keeping track of just how good our forces have been getting at killing bad thing for mother? Or how many of the damned things we've got? There isn't a land army that could stop us if the gloves really came off. In any case, our bioweapons can be thwarted with a gas mask, and our nanomachine plague only works to full effect if the planet they're deployed on has already been conquered. If we want to eat a planet, we need to kill its defenders off the old fashioned way first.
>>40748902what part of profitable in the long run do you not get if we already have a good foothold?
>>40748902the part where i completely missed establish a foothold.
>>40748873Echolocation depends on sound waves generated by the drone itself to read how they bounce off of objects it can't see. Like radar, with sound waves.
>>40748927Actually, we just need to control a small portion of the equator, and have air superiority, once we start sieging we can just build a weather spire or start deep core mining and ""accidentally"" the entire planet. Or ""accidentally"" all life on the planet.
>>40748781>>40748927>>40748961Why not all the things
>>40748869By "worse in deep space" it means operating in space stations with atmosphere. They actually allow vacuum sealed aerial drones to do some light spacework. So the only wings we shouldn't replace (theoretically, for functionality) are the ones on warriors.
>>40748960It's got a screamer mouth.
>>40748927>In any case, our bioweapons can be thwarted with a gas mask, and our nanomachine plague only works to full effect if the planet they're deployed on has already been conquered. >>40748645>We should do a full conversion of all our medium drones from standard wings to gravity wings. They are better in every aspect.Except price

Michael says as the doctor shines a light in his eye."No worries," he says, "I don't see any reason to keep you long." He folds his instruments back into a neat little slot in his coat. "In fact, you look better then I've ever seen you. You look like you've spent the past week in a med tank." He pulls off his gloves, tossing them into a nearby atomizer as Michael shifts his eyes to the floor. "But you look more nervous then a Valen on black Friday. I recommend you take a week or two off work. Wind down and get some rest.""I have to leave town today, that's not going to be an option." Michael says. The doctor sighs and walks to his cabinet."Alright. I have something for you then, for the nerves. It's cleared for use in the field for the BFI so you don't need to worry about your performance." He hands Michael a small container of pills. The doctor writes out a few scribbles on the label, and the smart paper shifts it into legible writing. 'Dr. Gustav Litchman: Subscription for Michael Devon: Take as needed, max 5 per day.'He hands the small canister to Michael. "Here you go. Beyond that, you're by far one of the most healthy looking patients I have ever seen." He lets out a small chuckle as he adds "keep it up and you'll live forever!" Michael nods, pocketing the pills and leaving the office quickly. He swipes his thumb against the counter on his way out as his car pulls up to meet him at the curb. He can hear the sirens in the distance.cont.>>40748576Think of it like a shot gun, I guess. The up-ramp, which has been shut down in both lanes, is the fastest route for air cars in or out of the district. Local authorities say they received a bomb threat early this morning, hours before the scheduled voting for the controversial new legislation set to be voted on today." It is otherwise healthy, but you suspect you should have it avoid sunlight. As the new clones acclimate themselves to life, your other clones stand over the monstrosity on the ground. You doubt it would live long on its own regardless. Your clone quickly brings its weapon up to the pitiful ghoul and pulls the trigger. It collapses to the ground, still, and a stream of tendrils drop from the ceiling, pulling it into the mouth of a barnacle. You have four functional clones available for skill imprinting.>Sharpshooter - This clone will be an adept marksman capable of utilizing and maintaining a wide range of rifles and side arms, especially slug throwers, hand guns, or long rifles. >Brawler - This clone will be adept at utilizing short ranged or melee weapons, and is an expert at disarming and incapacitating opponents in close quarters. Especially useful with shotguns, CIP weapons, vibro-blades, or thermal cutters. >Tech - This clone is highly skilled with human networking technology, and can infiltrate and disable security systems, pick electronic locks, falsify credentials, and erase or retrieve data from public or private networks. >Engineer - This clone will know the ins and outs of every conceivable mechanical device known in Union space, from power armor to ship engines and more.>Survivalist - This clone will know the various necessary skills to survive in a wild, hostile environment, even one that is unknown in nature.

>>40751398There'll be a vote for augmentations I'm sure.
>>40751398I think the flash clones are disposable and fundamentally not worth losing days spent augmenting when they could be doing things. We should queue up augmenting the high-quality clones that are in the pipeline instead.
>>40751398Meh, these are disposable flash-clones. Save cybernetics for the normal ones coming later. They'd have to be put down for a day to have any augments added anyway.
>>40751444Two days, if you're adding augs that are actually worthwhile like carbon nanoweave beneath the skin and semi-fluid bone structure.Or even just the skin graft that's needed to cover the limb augs.
Yeah, not really worth augmenting.
Just trying to get a sense before I have to go to bed for work in the morningbut how do people feel about that Honor Guard idea? Chimera Humans equipped with extensive augs to be the bodyguards of Lee or Elizabeth when they have to represent us to the political spacescape. Bodyguards that can follow them and operate inside human sized areas where our normal warrior drones can't fitBasically our own version of the Smiths
>>40751619Apprehensive, but I only show up to about a third of the live threads anyway so I don't think my thoughts matter much in regards to what's actually going to go through.
>>40751619I think I'd be okay with this.Maybe. It might lead to some questions of who they are when the spotlight is on them though, but I'm sure we can bullshit something up.
>>40751619Too many questions about who and what they are and where they come from, which will tip the Union off to our ability to clone people and genetically modify people since Chimeras are obviously not human. We''d be better off just using drones with acid glands.
>>40751619This would be an okay idea; if we weren't planning on going public. Or didn't think we'd be revealed.Once we're confirmed to exist, and actually known as space faring, we can just use our warriors for this purpose. They're still 88% combat effective, even with a limb blown off. Can you say that about humans?
>>40751619You really underestimate just how skilled our drones are and contorting themselves into crawlspaces. More besides, including chimeras in a diplomatic mission would defeat the purpose of a diplomatic mission in the first place, as they would likely mentally scar those they talk to and give the diplomats the impression that we intend to assimilate all the humans borg style.
>>40751619Stupid as hell, as it would reveal the creation of humanoids at will by the hive. The implications of possible infiltration are too easy to infer. Also nobody is ever fucking going to know Vaughn is even alive for too many reasons. Not least of which is the race traitor has freakin' antennae sticking out of her skull now. She's a secret of national security now.

Something beneath the water, and another creeping along the far edge of the tunnel. Your brawler is about to pick a fight when you nearly walk into the third creature as it erupts from a pile of garbage. The taidaren clicks rapidly at your clones, sizing them up as its brothers seem to look on from a distance. Its face is carved with a number of symbols, and painted red with bright yellow stripes running down each side. Its proboscis is painted blue, but stained red with blood. A decaying rat is in one hand, oozing liquefied meat like a punctured pastry."Soapeaters here! Why?" The other two bob their heads out of their cover to chant the question."Why? Soapeaters not often here. Visit strange.""Yes, strange!""Strange soapeaters, strange yes!""Here for things? Have no things for smell-less humans.""Scent of sugar!""Why sugar? Not soap? Strange for soapeater."They begin clicking and chanting without meaning, as if trying examine you more closely. Your brawler tenses his fists in instinct."What is it sugar smell want?"You notice the brothers behind your clones seem almost hunched over, their bodies coiled into a spring, as if expecting trouble. The one in front of you is lowered to the ground, with its hind left leg grasper set over the pre-digested rat, and its right middle leg held against its belly. The more likely shitstorm is accusations of us stealing babies and raising them. That said, I still think the honor guard is a questionable idea at best..
>>40751619Eh, I think it's cool.Disguise them with Metal Skin to look like body armor/prosthesis to disguise their alien nature.Or just keep them as human hybrids and say they're mercs or humans saved by the Hive.

>>40751821The questions of why they're working with us, how we recruit them, and why they're incorruptible aren't necessarily bad questions for our rivals to have to ask.No one will get DNA samples, it's already standard practice to put acid glands in everything, and any bodyguards will have acid implants and parasites/symbiotes.

Your clones continue to follow them until you reach a dead end, a wall with a large sealed drainage valve. The three let out a quick tune and something bangs on the other side, and the valve slides open. The triplets easily slip into the pipe, and your clones crawl through the brackish water."Not smell of sugar now, Sugar smell."They laugh, clicking and yipping as they swim their way to a nearby ramp. Another set of triplets are coiled around a large valve control."Why does Ziff bring humans to filth place?""Why?""Is Ziff dumb?""Ziff is dumb.""Why is Ziff dumb? >>40752864The others squawk back, as if someone stomped on a dog's chew toy, but they seem to dismiss each other after that, and the group continues to lead your clones. You can hear music, harsh to the human ear, like scraping metal and heavy machinery, but it is definitely music. Beyond the door to the small ramped chamber, you find a city, or at least a town of sorts, assembled from empty tanks and scrap metal, floating on a still pool of black, muggy water, or at least you think it's water. Old neon signs in various human languages are held up like ornaments, or have been twisted into new, crudely formed shapes or letters. Pairs of taidaren triplets scamper back and forth along the allies and wharf in all directions, rowing small boats made of tin, welding walls out of trash, and hanging precariously from dangerously rusty ladders along the rafters above, where old flood lights and scrapped car headlights fill the area with light."Mother is here. Follow Ziff." They say at once. The building looks like a small tower in the center of the chamber, a large support pillar that runs from top to bottom, and has had a number of shoddy looking buildings bolted to the sides. The harsh music seems to be coming from within, among other places, and taidarens move in and out of the many entrances along the base like ants, carrying crates of moldy fruit, dead animals, and the rare human corpse. They seem to avoid your clones, giving them several meters of space as you are lead into the central building and up several flights of stairs.Near the top, over looking the rest of the chamber, is a room bathed in red light and draped in musty rugs and old, moldy carpeting. In the center of the room, on a large mound of bedding and pillows, sits a single taidaren. She is several times the size of the others, and sits coiled around an old looking hookah. She says, and one of her limbs waves it away to one of of large piles of junk set along the walls. Flies buzz in clouds around the decaying piles of food, and the smell is overwhelming. She turns to your clones."Ziff. You bring humans here. Why?" She says in several deep clicks."Humans want business.""Sugar smell have things for trade.""Other human bringing the things. Sent others to lead it."She seems to ponder this for a moment, her surprisingly large eye gazing at your clones as her head quickly bobs in a small circle in time with her clicking. She stops abruptly, apparently having gathered a detailed enough view of you. She inhales from her pipe again, and as she speaks the smoke comes out in small bursts with the clicks and whistles."I am the mother of the Setting Sons. My children do well, and they say you have things to trade." She says. The others grow silent, a rarity among them. "Tell me about them.""Parasites, for your immune system." Your clone replies simply. There is the sound of another trio moving up the stairs behind you, and your other clone arrives with them, backpack filled with parasites."Where are they from?" She asks. She stretches her head over to you, looking first at the bag, then at each of your clones."Where is proof of them working?" She says. "Humans make many claims. Think filth is poor and clean is wealth. Humans come smelling of lemon and lavender. Humans make claims and sell junk. Think we are dumb because we are clever. Think us weak because we are quick." She seems upset at something, but not at you directly, although it is clear her aggravation could quickly shift in your direction. "Humans make many claims. You are human making claims. What is your proof?" She gestures with her arms in a waving motion with all six of them, displaying her impatience.Your engineer slowly removes a parasite from the bag. It twitches in his hand. The taidarens around you freeze in place, save for their heads that continue to bob and sway like radar dishes. The matron pretends to be unimpressed, but she lets out a few short clicks to get a better view of it. "A bug." She says. "Show its uses."Your brawler, after having been turned into a chimera to start your local hive, still holds its parasite used to mutate it.>Display the parasite's healing properties>Offer several free of charge>Other (write in)

The taidarens around you flinch and jump back in surprise, and the bone plates set along the head of the matron shifts, the top plate extending upwards while several along the sides fan out for a brief moment before resetting. Your clone pulls out the knife, and in mere seconds the blood begins to scab. There is a slight hissing as the skin stitches itself closed as the medical paste oozes from the wound, dripping the thick ichor as the scab closes. Your clone peels the chitinous plate off with the knife after several minuets, revealing only a raw patch of fresh skin. The taidarens around you burst into clicking for a short moment, and Ziff, or the Ziffs, stumble over themselves in joy.The matron backs her head away, returning to her relaxed posture."How many of these do you have?""Could dozen." Your clone replies."Could you acquire more?" She asks. Your clone shrugs. She considers it further, flexing her facial plates in a loud clack that silences the room again."What things do you want?" Fresh things do not come here, only ripe." You see her wave over several taidarens, and she quickly clicks at them and they flee in several directions. "Children know who has them. Can have them help human."The groups come back, loaded with rags in baskets. Moldy and moth-eaten, but they pick through them, sorting out those that are intact, although still filthy. Three others strip the recently collected human corpse and gleefully toss the worn out cloths into the basket with the others. Others still arrive with more baskets, filled with guns, knives, and bloodied and rusted armor. Several of the taidaren triplets toss their own rifles and sidearms into the baskets. Yet another group arrives with a basket filled with credits, although you quickly realize that it is simply collected pocket change, although the value is still undoubtedly quite high."Bring more." >>40753951"Get us a 3D printer, and access to a holoprinter and those ID cards, and you'll get plenty more. How many more do you want?"The matron quickly shifts here head back and forth, thinking in silence. "Seven hundred." She says eventually. She casts a quick look beneath her, to the cluster of eggs. "And another ninety by the end of the month.""That's gonna cost you." Your clone says, folding his arms for show. "Toss in some proper, heavy hardware." He rubs the fingers of his hand together. To you and your clone's distaste the fingers feel slimy. Everything feels slimy, and unlike you hive, you have no idea where any of it came from."We will find your cards, and your printers." She says, and he releases another loud clack from her facial plates, and her many children disperse quickly. Several of them begin hauling the crates of supplies out of the tower, following your clones as they leave. You have them leave the baskets not far from your hive, and your flash clones supply themselves, searching through the baskets for familiar materials. You leave the parasites with them as they take them to some kind of infirmary. Your clones find two long rifles, a dozen pistols, two CIP pistols, twenty vibro-blade combat knives, three thermal loops with wrist attachments, a pile of clothes of all styles, including uniforms for various offices of maintenance departments, inspectors, and even two police uniforms, although they are damaged. You even find enough various components to assemble eight suits of armor, although they are mismatched and damaged in appearance, despite their surprisingly good condition. The damage is extensive at first glance, but all superficial. As well, you find 873 credits in total, a decent haul, to say the least, although you suspect much of this is considered an advance. >>40754302Supporting this. We need to give impression that getting parasites is hard. Although the rumours could be problematic.
>>40754318As a matron, she is likely tending to the eggs of multiple females at once, depending on the local customs. It is common for a matron to, at the very least, tend to the care of any of her daughters' children, and egg exchanges are decently common methods of sealing political arrangements with other tribes, and are especially common when one is surrendering to, or otherwise pledging themselves under the command of another tribe. The term "mother" in taidaren culture holds more of a political tint then it is an indication of direct parentage.

I had a horrible thought today.I was thinking, once we smuggle a Ceph hybrid agent through the Valen gate system to the Ceph homeworld, we could determine its location, and could blink in a fleet if we so chose. But what if the void has access to a massive amount of Canderon or its equivalent, and when they took the stars away from the planet, they actually encased it in a warp bubble? It would be completely discontinuous from normal space that way, and might not even be visitable except by slipspace or hyper gate.

>>40754473why does our reputation matter if were just going to mind slave all of them?
>>40754408Yeah I was thinking that it was possible that the dark gods or whoever somehow removed the world from realspace somehow. That might explain that Ceph pilots always know that the planet is 'down', as if it occupied a point in spacetime unique among the planetary bodies of the galaxy. This makes just locating it, much less sending an invasion fleet to it, exceedingly problematic, given how we must know the destination of a drone or infiltrator in order to send a space pod there to maintain communication with it. So unless we find some way of pin pointing the location of the infiltrator in space, they will be completely beyond the reach of us.
>>40754473*mindslaving the Taidarens
>>40754488Yes, please, we've already studied so much forbidden knowledge and only good things have come of it so far.

Okay now that we got the supplies for break-ins, we can plot to parasite the doctor and members of the Gemini PDF.Possibly find a way to phone in a bomb threat to the news to get Parliament vote canceled for the day, if we can find a way that won't be traced. And we still need to meet the 3 team members Michael recruited, and see if Theseus can stowaway onto the ship too.
>>40754434Can we recognize the bodyguards of representatives that Michael has met, and stalk them when they get off work and leave the Parliament building?
>>40754540Did you forget? Our mother tried to censure the knowledge of the location from which she sent the pod carrying our egg in precisely the same way, because she wanted us to stay hidden from the Obsidian Queen. It was arguably the wiser decision on her part, but she could not have guessed how powerful we would become in such a short period of time. The thinker she left behind at farcast is carrying information of the same significance. Her original hope of keeping us ignorant of the dark gods and the obsidian queen are now a moot point, and we need as much information as possible to be prepared for whats coming. Simply uncovering such knowledge will not place us in any sort of immediate risk, and it could be something of vital importance. What reason, apart from your unfounded paranoia, do you have for pulling a blind over eyes and pretending it isn't there?

>>40754453Yes, nutrient wise, it is quite poor. It is bountiful in metals, however. Infrastructure involves a network of tunnels that reach deep, deep into the crust, permeating the planet's crust. There are remains of specialized and highly efficient geo-thermal plants, although none of them are still alive. I'll have them written up with more details by next thread.Speaking of which, after tonight I'll be leaving town for a few weeks, so I won't be able to run for the next two or weeks or so. Opaque helmets that utilize digital visor systems are rather common due to their improved protection, especially among police special forces like SWAT, many PDF divisions, and other military branches. It doesn't apply to all of them, of course, so you could get the IDs of some of the lower security level guards that work in or near the parliament building.Alright, give me just a bit and I'll set up the next thread while you plot interstellar domination and all that fun stuff.
>>40754611She told the Thinker to go far away. There was no memory deletion mentioned. And it was right to tell you to stay away from there, because it would be Obsidian Queen territory by the time you emerged from the cocoon. There was no censorship though.

It's weird that Billiard, the gas giant, manages to have a million people in its floating cities. It's the most populated planet in the Expanse. Like five times the runner up of Deckard's claim. It makes sense as the first investigation point for Michael in that sense, I guess. Then when and if we're ready for a showdown we can send Lyle to Deckard's claim to lure him there.
>>40754636Yes, she could have guessed we would have built fleets of hundereds of ships by our first year. What she couldn't have anticipated is how quickly we accumulated and refined advanced technology the way we did. Thanks to the sheer amount of reverse engineering we managed in such a short time, and the development of quantum thinkers, we've developed a far more powerful hive than she could have reasonably hoped. Do you think it's normal for hive's to gain access to planet cracking warheads in the first few months of their existence? In any case, the thinker we found on farcast is displaying the same sort of self imposed mental block as the first thinker we had in that pod with us exhibited. They aren't trying to keep it a secret because the White Queen explicitly ordered them to. They are blocking that knowledge because they are regard it as the best way to fulfill the last orders their mother gave them before she died. Basic thinkers simply lack the self awareness to be able to interpret the intent behind the orders, and the best way to carry out that intent if the circumstances the original orders were given changed. And the circumstances in which the last orders given to that thinker have changed monumentally.
>>40754750Except your premise is wrong. The first thinker had no mental block. It's completely different case from the Farcast thinker.
>>40754750>>36075191 > The thinker within still sleeps, and before it wakes you blink it away. Thinker was hatched solely for escorting the MC, and was not even self-aware and in contact with the White Queen at any time. It only had the order the pod received to go far away.>upon questioning you find that while the thinker hatched in the pod some light years within the nebula already, it had very simple orders from its own queen.>"Go far away."
>>40754488Supporting this. Forbidden memory time.
Okay, the invasion of Aral. There's pretty much no way to sneak hybrids onto that planet without it being weird, unlike on Gemini which had a large rural population to blend in with.So how about we send a pod down to a mountain range/river valley far from the point of colonization containing at least one camouflage drone and a hundred flies and parasites, to hole up in a cave somewhere. The planet gets regular meteor strikes so it won't be weird to see another one fall. Then one drone can hibernate, cocoon into an egglayer in case we need it, and the flies can go get valen blood samples. We want to eventually implant some Gate Guild people.
If the humans already tested and perfected the psionic cannon a hundred years ago, why was the White Queen having a million thinkers work to finish the project last year?
What's happening with the Commonwealth? What's their reaction now, after our awesomeness?
>>40754766>>40754825Even if that part of my argument wasn't the case, the point remains that we are far more qualified than the thinker, or for that matter the White Queen, to determine whether that memory is beneficial or detrimental to our hive. And there isn't a single concrete reason that memory would harm our situation in any meaningful way. There isn't anyway it could be carrying some kind of memetic virus that damages hive psionic network, and whatever is there there is no way it can lead to any outcome we do not explicitly allow to happen. I really want to know why you think it is a bad idea to open it, I really do, because I cannot for the life of me come up with any reason we should not.
>>40754969Different scaling? The humans had theirs built into the moon, probably several kilometers deep into the crust.Mom had to somehow make that fit into the hull of a Hiveship. Maybe she wanted to make sure everything was exactly to spec since as far as we know, even the smallest miscalc can cause a psi cannon to explode spectacularly.
>>40755009Did the human-built prototype even use void shards as ammo? I don't think it did.
