Everything is calm in your cell. No sound beside the one of your own breath. The only light comes from the magical gem in the ceiling, watching you constantly. It would be too faint for any human eyes, but yours allow you to see your surroundings. Naked steel walls, a heavy, reinforced door, the remains of a meal on a plate, a chamber pot, a small and uncomfortable mattress and, chained by the ankle to the wall the furthest from the door, yourself: Astar, ex-Prince of the Empire of Thonen. Two years ago, you had it all: a position as sole heir, power, both personal and political, allies, friends … and then your father decided to start his plan to become a god. The results? An empire lying in ruin, your father shoved through his own Hellgate, and you and the other higher-ups captured, killed or on the run. Your blood boils as you feel the familiar weight of the heavy metal collar around your neck, sealing away all your powers. Or, to be more precise, nearly all your powers…

>>40173128…You trained yourself as much as you could in this enclosed space. It was hard, at first, and especially with the paltry amount of food they gave you, but little by little, you got used to the hunger, the tiredness and the sore muscles. Your determination never failed you, your restless and relentless training sculpted your body, and by the time you hit your sixteenth birthday, a few months ago, you were sure you outmatched any of the idiots you’ve seen bring you food. Of course, this made the ones in charge to keep you in uneasy, and any interaction you had with the guards showcased their wariness. But it didn’t matter. Precautions or not, soon you will be free.At this thought, you hear the roar, the bleat and the hiss of Pyrovoi, the ancient Chimera you bound your soul to a long time ago, resonate in your mind. You beg her to stay calm a little longer, and, testament of the bond between you, the savage beast relents. Your pact with the spirit of this monster granted you her fire breath, along with the power to emulate the abilities of the animals that composed her. The lion’s claws and strength, that you used to lay waste on when the fire was not enough, were well-known by the time of your capture, if not understood. Compared to this, the jumping capacities the goat’s leg gave you and the poisoned fangs of the snake were easy to overlook. And you took advantage of this. Between the moment they made sure you had no active magic on you and the one they locked the sealing collar around your neck, you managed to summon Pyrovoi’s powers in your legs and teeth. In time, this will allow you to use these abilities, one last time.Speaking of which, your acute ears pick up a sound, behind the door. It seems it’s time for your meal. Or rather, for your escape.
>>40173639The familiar sounds of the dozen of locks moving, preceding the opening of the door, makes you shift position. You sit on your bed, facing the opening and the guard in the doorway, the light of the corridor entering your cell. You stays silent, as the idiot moves closer. “Nothing to say, eh? You half-elf freak” he curses under his breath. Well, it’s true. You often wondered how you came to be. Your father never demonstrated any kind of sexual attraction for anyone (or anything), and elves were notorious for their low fertility. But that is not important right now. The two of you continue your course through the air, pass thourgh the entrance of yourself, the corridor behind it, and finaly through the opening at the end of it, negligently left open. >>40178961So we're more along the lines of a contractor/necromancer. Actually that might be worth looking into. Contracting powerful elementals and souls we find out about.Eitherway focus on the now and deal with the future afterwards. Specially when the now is trying to kill us.
>>40179017>in magical super prison>barely escape, heavily wounded>maybe something nice will happen!!Something tells me you're trolling
>>40179096He's playing the odds with balls of steel more like.
>>40179142Being a regard doesn't mean you are brave. It means you are being a retard.
>>40179300Doesn't matter if we run if whatever behind us is faster. Just means it gets a free shot at our back.
>>40179419Please stop voting if your reasoning is always going to be this deficient
You turns, and a wave of fear descends down your spine.Carrying an engraved sword as big as you are, a colossus stands before you, ten feet tall, and looking even taller due to levitating on what appears to be a tombstone. Maybe once it was human, or humanoid, but it is clearly not anymore. Its skin is a dark grey, its flesh mummified. Several scrolls, covered in texts and scriptures, are sewed, nailed or bolted to the different part of its body in a grotesque parody of clothes. Its eyes are sewed shut, and on its forehead, the unmistakable iron crown, nailed by a single golden needle piercing its skull from end to end, indicates without a doubt what it is. Crafted from fanatics who let themselves be transformed, they are hunters of magic and slayers of mages. No magic escape their sights. They must have a real name, but you only ever heard their nickname: Blind GuardiansAnd then you remember the whole process save the last step is performed while the subject is still alive, and you want to puck.>> BLIND GUARDIAN <<>> Fanatic from Beyond the Grave <<The creature open its undead mouth, and you see its lips move, no doubt to let out the terrible power of its voice. You brace yourself… and realize you can’t hear it. You’re still deaf. The Guardian realizes it an instant later. Awkward. It still has its sword, though.>Try to run>Fight defensively>A strong offense is the best defense!
>>40179514>RUNit's a ten foot colossus, we have no magic or weapons and we're already wounded
>>40179514>Try to runNo thank you Asylum Demon, I'll be back after I get my starting equipment.
>>40179514Are we naturally considered magic? If we discharge our last held spell will it still be able to see us. Either way, no poisoning an undead creature. Run.
>>40179514>runand here I was hoping something good would happen.how strong of a swimmer are we, OP?
>>40179566>>40179610Can I ask where you lovely cowards want to go? We're on a rooftop in the middle of the ocean and the only way we know immediately back is down a trapdoor which is a damn pit/elevator shaft. oh and I bet the guards will have a LOVELY GREETING for us! Oh and the waters probably death too. He'd impale us mid fall. or we die on impact with the water.>>40179514>Defensive. Look for an alternate escape route or some kind of weak point to the giant. There has to be something!
>>40179663yeah backing.just joined, great quest so far, looks really promising.
>>40179663Maybe you should just admit that you were wrong?Notice how you are the only one who wants to fight the legendary magickiller giant abomination?
>>40179635You're not naturaly magic.
>>40179768Sorry, dropped my tripYou're not naturaly magic.
>>40179791I think the consensus here is discharge our last spell and then book it
Alright, time for running>Discharging last spell ? :Y/N
>>40179837>nIt can still probably hear/smell us, and the collar might very well be magic, how else would it hold ours in?
>>40179837>If we understand them as -only- seeing magic? Discharge spell.
>>40179863>>40179880They only see magic, but your collar is magical
>>40179905Then do not discharge.
>>40179905called it!no sense in using a creature that sees magic to guard prisoners without it.The collar has a double purpose.
>>40179756You know I think I know where I saw you before. You were the guy who frothed at the mouth over orc warlord quest and all the horrible choices made. You got the same attitude he did at least.Still don't see running working too well unless we roll VERY fucking high on it. Dudes got a hover tombstone for fucks sake.>>40179905In that case no point wasting our poison attack. Big fat no to magic use.
>>40179940>You were the guy who frothed at the mouth over orc warlord quest and all the horrible choices made.I'm not sure why you think he's that guy when it sounds more like that's you.
>>40179940I don't follow Orc Warlord quest but nice try. I just strongly doubt that fist fighting a powerful undead construct is a wise plan
>>40180060(not the anon you replied to, just throwing in my two cents.)Where do we run to? we're on top of a tower guard roof, in the middle of the ocean, in what is basically magic alcatraz.
>>40180088The island almost certainly has boats anon
>>40180088(Random anon)Unless the thing drops a giant boss key when we beat it, fighting it isn't going to help either.
>>40180019>>40180060Ah yes the put words in my mouth tactic. I'm not even angry here you just want to assume I am. That and my choice of wording is pretty blunt I suppose which comes off as being overly aggressive. Sorry on that?>>40179663I had my reasons cleanly stated here. I don't want to try and kill this damn thing I want an out that doesn't involve turning my back on it. We're all on the same damn page on we can't touch this damn thing right now unless we rolled stupid lucky. I wanted to avoid getting impaled and find a better exit than either jumping off the roof or going back down to the shooting gallery of the elevator.Seriously you think I wanted to fight that thing bare handed? No no no no no thousand times no. I wanted to stall it and look for an escape route that doesn't involve hilariously high degrees of death chance.>>40180088Thanks. I've been trying to point that out here. I don't wanna suicide I want to avoid getting even more injured running blindly.
>>40180173>>40180180that doesnt fix the problem of how we get off the tower.
>>40180201We're not going to get off the tower by staying in melee range with a 10 foot monster, you mongoloid.
>>40180214I repeat, tower roof. this entire place is within melee range of him with minimal movement, the only chance to avoid getting shanked is to dodge his, (likely slow) attacks, and look for a way out, not turn our back on the giant.
>>40180214And you're not gonna make friends or convince us of much when all you do is insult us. Who'd of guessed being a jerk makes people opposed to you and stuff?
>>40180201Either we try cliff-diving or climbing down the side. Staying here to do battle with the giant ghoul will undoubtly get us more injured. It's unlikely we'd even have the strength to use whatever he drops to help us scale down. The only thing we have that isn't injured are our legs and our head. Either we find a way to make a run and jump for it, or be try and fist fight a 10 foot tall UNDEAD GUARDIAN until we can pull out his golden weakpoint with our bare hands, giving the guards plenty of time to do whatever.
Running into some technical difficultiesAnyway, writing running and keeping dat magic
>>40180257It has a hover-grave, if we try to climb down, it can no doubt follow us. if we jump, we'll likely die when we hit the water.not that it matters anyway, that part of the vote was already called.
>>40180257Backing 100%.Sticking around to out together an escape plan while dancing around an incredibly dangerous enemy is dumb
>>40180214But I'm not of East Asian descent?
>>40180305you're also not me.
>>40180257this anon is correct. Pls no rule of cool idiocy right now, we have to play our cards right to escape magic jail
>>40180320Yes we are.
>>40180339By your own logic attempting to scale the tower or jump off are also death options. The dude flies. You climb down he casually hovers down and impales you. Or you jump off a very tall thing and hope you don't break limbs when you hit the water in a proper dive, and that no jagged rocks are under the waves to be smashed on.Since OP isn't calling for rolls he's either got something in mind or ending it now. Guess we'll see. I just hope its not the elevator shaft again. By now its going to be damn shooting gallery.
>>40180249If we had vot to run away in the first place we would probably not be in this situation at all...
>>40180394agreed, but you didn't, and now we are, let's just make the best with what we have.
>>40180394IT was stated as already being there behind us. The only difference would be we wouldn't know what it was.
>>40180394>>40180419By my guess if we'd bolted this would of been us madly dashing away from while he swings his sword like a lunatic. So running now basically just goes into that line and this is very round a bout and such.
>>40180462eh, if we had run then, we would have had a few extra seconds as he tried his voice-magic thing. course we didnt know that, so looking was a reasonable choice.
>>40180487Ironically being deaf saved us from that. It's also why I keep thinking turning our back on him to leg its a bad idea. we can't hear what he's doing back there or anything.Guess we'll see if our head gets lopped off or not soon enough.
in any case, the vote is closed, no use arguing about it now, lets just wait for the update.
>>40179514You turn your back to the thing, and start to run. There is no way you can fight this! You run on the jail’s roof, trying desperately to find a way off it. Getting away from the trap door, you hope you’ll find a boat, or at least reach the limit of the platform. This hope is crushed as you feel the air movement of the Guardian’s blade, at your right, a few inches under your ear.It hits you.You feel the impact sending you flying.Gods and angels. You’re dead. You’re dead, dead, dead. Gods fucking damn it.Wait.You’re not dead? How is that possible? It struck you right on the neck…Suddenly, a face jumps at the front of your mind. A wrinkled, hated face, with a hated little smug smile. The one of the old man who put that collar around your neck, so long ago.“Try anything you want, everything you want,” the old fucked had said, “but trust me, young man: you will never get out of this collar. It’s indestructible, impossible to loosen, and will clings to you longer than life will.”You has never been happier than he was right, at least on the indestructible part.Still, you have to deal with the blow. You manage to roll with it before you get thrown out of the roof. The Guardian turns to your new position, apparently confused by the fact you’re still moving. You guess it’s not used to things resisting to its strike.Still, what do you do?>Fight the confused Guardian>Look down the prison’s wall behind you
>>40180749>Look down the prison’s wall behind you
>>40180749>Look down the wallWe got places to be, and none of those places are that guardian's blade
>>40180749>look down the wallLooks like we should have run initially
>>40180749So, I'm guessing all it "sees" is the collar and that's what it's targeting? I that's the case, then we're safer than I originally thought, we just have to make sure that when it attacks us, it hits the collar.
>>40180839While that is a good point, we're unarmed, it would take us entirely to long to kill it.
>>40180749Well that was jumping a shark but thanks Boss.>Look down the wall.Only a REALLY quick glance I don't want to take eyes off it again. I doubt you're gonna plot armor us like that much more.>>40180839I'm okay with that right up until it breaks our neck from repeat blows. Eitherway its the only defense we got if it comes down to it.
>>40180839Pretty much.Your teeth are magic too, though
actually... this thing was designed to hunt mages right? maybe if we fight it, it has some sort of ability that would drain the magic from our collar, allowing us to use our own again.
>>40180943just lean our neck out and call "come on you zombie shit cut my head off"

You look down, careful to not let the Blind Guardian out of sight for more than an instant. Yes, down there, you can see a couple of ships. You can also see men in heavy armors rushing from the more expensive-looking ship, which sports a red sail, to the inside of the prison.Of course, you’d have to be five stories lower to get to it.From the corner of your eye, you see the colossus charging at you. Thankfully, you were prepared, and the massive, vertical strike is dodged to the left. The impacts is enough to crack the roof open. Yet, it seems that the move had a downside: unable to stop, the Guardian’s levitating stone hit the roof as well, and the gigantic undead is now trying to find it balance again, despite its massive sword and its blindness to anything not magical.>Use all you got, try to push the Guardian off its slab>Disarm it>Yeah, no, let’s try to escape>Other
>>40181395>Use all you got, try to push the Guardian off its slab

>>40181767So we got very damn lucky.I still want meat salsa on the ground floor dammit. After all the grief this fucker generated I want him in bits and chunks.
You know what you have to do. Fuck your blood loss, fuck your injuries, but your fatigue, but above all fuck this guy. You charge at the Guardin, with the approving roar of Pyrovoi backing you up, you jump on the stone slab, and you push the unbalanced fanatic with all your sixteen-year-old, gravely injured might. It tries to hit you, flailing its sword widely, not to avail. You see one foot leave the ground, then the second, and the massive abomination falls back. It tries to grab something, but without sight and with only one hand free, there is no chance. It looks at you with its sewed up eyes, its mouth wide open, maybe to scream, and the Blind Guardian make its last flight. Of course, you would have followed it with great joy, if there wasn’t the issue of you leaking. This last stunt only made it worse. But you now have a stone of levitation, yeah!>Get the hell out of here>Flying? No thanks. Find another way. Also:>Fix bleeding first>Nah, you’re still good for a while
>>40181952>Get the hell out of here>Nah, you're good
>>40181952>Get the hell out of here.Assuming we can get this crazy thing to work! The bleeding I'd just want to check on. if we're still not woozy we can afford to fly the fuck out and bind it with our rags out of crossbow range.
>>40181979Seconding this. Get the fuck out. Once we have some distance from the island we can patch ourselves up.

>>40182133OP you gotta stop losing your trip. Thankfully we're used to you tripping over trips by now!
Incoming "Pass out during flight due to blood loss"
You check out the wound in your back the best you can. Hmm, it’s not bleeding too much, after all. You’re going to need surgery or magic to close it, though. It’s also painful as hell.Pressing the remains of your clothes on it, you tries to take control of your new mean of transportation, ignoring the (pretty hypocritical) engraved text detailing the horrors all the users of magic should be subjected to. Even in your pretty wounded state, or perhaps because of it, you remember the advice that Eunix, your best friend and the most talented wizard you know, told you, years and years ago. “Remember, Astar, magical items are a bit like whores: you don’t have to woo or impress them, just to tell them what you want and meet their conditions.”Eh, good old Eunix. Despite being a virgin, the kid always had the best advice on prostitutes.Anyway. You project your will toward the stone, commanding it to take you away from it. It seems like it will refuse, at first, but soon it relents and obey. You lie on your belly, holding it as hard as your injured members allow it, and you take off in the sky. Behind you, you see crossbow bolts failing to reach you, as the guards apparently managed to reach the roof. Yeah, as if they could catch you now. Now, your eyes are definitively full of tears. You can’t believe it, you’re free! Free! Despite not hearing it, you’re pretty sure the laugh escaping your lips is the greatest you ever had.[End of Episode 1: The Jail]
>>40182446Nah, we're specced for toughness right now, as long as we can fly out to sea and get out of missile range we should be okay, and hopefully the hover stone moves pretty fast
>>40182474Nice! Thanks for running OP. Next quest when?
