Welcome to Criminal Negligence Quest! You take the role of an aspiring supervillain looking to make a name for himself in this world. In the last thread you knocked over a bank, decided to attend a meeting, and picked something up from a friend.Character: http://pastebin.com/ReSHVYdTInventory: http://pastebin.com/UtiFV8wcSystem: http://pastebin.com/kJ8A2wduArchive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Criminal%20Negligence%20Quest
You are Cesare Monti, and you're currently standing in your oldest friend's heavily fortified apartment. You came here after an unusually eventful morning to pick up the piece of gear you comissioned from him a few months ago.Now you stare at the sleek helmet which sits on the work bench. It has four glowing blue cameras sitting roughly where the eyes ought to be, and filters covering both the mouth and the nose. Its appearance is almost insectoid in nature, at least you think so. Four capacitors line the neck, each one humming quietly with power.Eli is already babbling on about his precious creation. Sometimes you think he's more attached to his inventions than he is to people. "Right, so listen man. Here's what I did to this bad boy. The helmet has a patch at the base of the neck which will plug into your nervous system. The first version was just a big ass spike which stabbed you in the neck, but I've altered it to be... less stabby. The slits near the mask and nose are air filtration systems. You've got a heads up display which you can control mentally and receives input from the four cameras in front. That HUD has target tracking, night vision, and magnification. He taps one of the capacitors bulging from the neck of the helmet. "These babies on the neck are what helps you with your jumps. Whenever you start to disassemble two of the capacitors will release their charge and create an electromagnetic field around your head. My hypothesis is that you get migraines because your brain gets all fucked up from being torn apart and reassembled. This ought to keep your headcase a little more coherent without limiting your ability to jump. You've got two charges, so don't waste them. After that you're on your own."(1/2)
He raps his knuckles against the top of the helmet. "It's pretty heavily armored. Ought to withstand concentrated rifle fire. I wouldn't recommend trying it though. If a bullet nicks one of the capacitors it might blow." He holds up his hands in mock surrender when you shoot him a glare. "Relax! It's not likely to happen. I designed the capcitors such that they should simply cease function, rather than meltdown. Oh, it's wifi enabled too."You gently pick up the helmet, twisting it in your hands. You don't see any obvious ways to put the thing on. The neck hole is too small to fit your head through. "How do I put this thing on?"Eli snatches the helmet from your hands. "Here, gimme a second." He fiddles with it, and then the two flaps around the neck snap off. Seems they were latches of some sort. He slides the helmet over your head and then with some difficulty reseals the latches at the neck. You find yourself momentarily blinded, and then there's a prickling sensation at the back of your neck.Suddenly the world is cast in high definition, an endless stream of diagnostic gibberish flowing through your vision. You hear a beep, and then a soft feminine voice filters into your ear through some unseen speaker. "Diagnostic run complete. New user detected. >>39944046Because I'm shit with superhero names. I can't just poke shit in a generator and let it spit out suggestions. Thought about using google translate and plugging things in, Italian things, but decided against it.You've read 44/67 pages, if I remember correctly.
>>39944083Huh usually we jump more than just 3 pages ,but ok.
What about the 'Mental Mantis'? Mask looks like a bug, we use psychic powers, and it also kind of sounds like Metal Mantis which works since the mask is metal.
You consider a variety of names for a time. At first the only things you can think of are 'The Masked Stranger' and 'The Opportunist, neither of which you're particularly fond of. You consider Blink for a while, but decide you'd rather not give so obvious a hint as to what you're capable of. It comes down to a debate between Rewind and Belial, and in the end you decide to go with the mythological reference. Speaking cautiously, you say "Belial."There's a series of high pitched beeps in your ear, and then that voie again. "Username registered: Belial. Welcome, Belial." As the voice finishes speaking a variety of menus filter into view. Elijah is highlighted in green, a distance reading and his name hovering near his head. There's also a readout of your vital statistics sitting in the corner of your vision. It list your pulse rate, your body temperature, and your blood pressure. You think about night vision and suddenly you're blinded by white. Perhaps turning it on in a well lit room was a poor choose. You shut it off by thinking about doing so. You're treated to a very close look at Elijah's poors the moment you think about magnifying your view. When you speak, your voice comes out amplified by a speaker at the base of your helmet. "This is great, Elijah, but it's pretty conspicuous. How am I supposed to drag this thing around? I'm a bit too old to pass for a college student, and I doubt it would fit in a briefcase."Elijah grins. "Think about the helmet collapsing. I engineered it such that it should fold up into the collar of the suit. Wear a turtle neck, or a collared shirt, or just tuck it into a pocket and you ought to be fine. It's pretty flexible."(1/2)
You do as he ask, focusing on the helmet collapsing into itself. Suddenly the HUD vanishes, and the portion of the helmet covering your eyes pops out and splits apart. The helmet divides itself into two halves and swiftly folds itself up, forming a tight ring around your neck just as Elijah described. You think about the helmet assembling itself around your head and it begins to unfold itself. You repeat the process a few times before ultimately leaving it in its more compact form. You hold out your hand and Elijah takes it in his own, his grip firm as you shake hands. "Exactly what I was hoping for, Eli. How much do I owe you?"Eli shrugs his shoulders. "Ten thousand, I'm giving you a discount since we go back and all. Normally for this sorta work I'd charge ten times that amount, just to give you a frame of reference."You can easily afford ten thousand dollars without even dipping into your recent payment. Whilst pulling out your phone and thumbing over to your bank app you eye the array of guns lining the wall. Shotguns, rifles, submachine guns, even a massive light machine gun and something which looks patched together with duct tape and bubble gum. A pair of pistols catch your eye, they're of an odd make. They don't have any obvious magazine and they seem to have some sort of battery plugged into their side. You tap in ten thousand into a field in the app and transfer the funds to Eli's account. Once that's finished, you wander over to his wall of weaponry. "I've been thinking about getting my hands on a gun that isn't some cheap-ass plastic glock." You gesture to the various guns lining the rack. "Mind telling me a bit about all these? I don't really know much about guns myself."Eli comes to stand next to you, staring at his inventions like a proud father. He plucks up on of the pistols and squeezes the trigger. There's a high-pitched squeal, and a glow fills the room as a ball of plasma forms itself just in front of the barrel of the gun. He points the pistol at one of his barricaded windows and releases the trigger, the ball of plasma flying forward. Lightning arcs off the ball as it shoots across the room, only to explode against the barricade. There's a ring of black around the point of impact, but the barricade is otherwise undamaged. "Energy pistol. Shoots a ball of plasma. Devistating against lightly armored targets but useless against heavy armor. It'll eat through a bulletproof vest at least." He sets it back down gently. "Batteries will usually last you about ten shots, then they'll self-eject and you'll need to slam a new one in."He gestures to the shotguns. "Most of these are designed to fire slugs. They're essentially mass accelerators. You could use them with buckshot, or whatever, but it'd be less effective. They'll punch a hole in a tank from a hundred yards away but they're a bitch to reload and slow to fire, unless you're really good with shotguns. I know that doesn't apply to you."(1/2)
He runs his fingers along the light machine gun, almost lovingly. "This baby fires one thousand exploding rounds per minute. Practically a weapon of mass destruction. Heavy as hell though, and not at all subtle. Not really your sorta weapon, y'know?"You're not sure if you agree with him, but you're not going to interrupt while he's on a roll. Next he points to the bulky, taped together assault rifle hanging on the wall. "This was the first weapon I ever crafted. Fires semi-molten spikes through a mass accelerator. Kicks hard enough to dislocate your shoulder and it's got shit penetrating power. Against unarmored targets though, there's nothing better."He shrugs. "Any idea what you're looking for? I might be able to invent something to suit your needs. I've actually been thinking I could design some gauntlets and boots to channel your telekinetic power and maybe allow you flight, but I'm still not sure how I would go about that. I might need to turn it into an entire suit, just to add stabilizers and the like."You were actually thinking of commisioning an armored suit, so that would work out perfectly. "I want something compact, something I can conceal. Other than that I don't really have any preference."He points at you, his voice enthusiastic. "In that case, go with the pistols or one of the submachine guns. I've got a pretty good mix of SMGs which fire actual bullets and SMGs which fire plasma projectiles very rapidly. Plasma is weak as hell but does a lot of damage when it does manage to get past armor, and bullets have great penetration power but they're not as likely to reduce your target into a caustic mush.">Buy both of the pistols>Buy one of the pistols>Buy a SMG>Buy a shotgun.>Comission a gun from him (Write-in specifications)>Comission an armored flight suit.>Comission just an armored suit.>Comission gauntlets to amplify your telekinetics>Don't comission anything>Write-in

You pick up one of the pistols and eye the rack of SMGs. "I'll take one of the pistols, and..." You trail off, reaching for one of the submachine guns which fires bolts of plasma but switching at the last minute to one of the more compact ballistic submachine guns. What convinced you was the realization that the ballstic submachine gun could be folded in on itself. You set the pistol aside and gently remove the SMG from the rack, pushing down on a pin and pulling the front half of the weapon forward. It slides out, and push down on the stock, sliding it up until it clicks in place at the muzzle. The magazine seems to be loaded into the grip, so you don't need to unload it to conceal it.Once you've folded it up, you press down on the latch and it flicks open. The stock must be spring loaded. "I'll take this as well. How much for both?"Eli points to the pistol first. "Fifteen thousand-" Then to the SMG in your arms. "Seven thousand. The pistol was tough to make work. I mean, I rely on atmospheric plasma to make the projectile. Do you know how hard it is to design a weapon based on atmospheric plasma?" He takes your blank stare to be a no. "Exactly."You fold up the SMG and set it down next to the pistol. "I've also been thinking. How much would it cost to comission an armored suit? Both flying and nonflying variants. Maybe have the gauntlets of both amplify my telekinetics."Eli wanders over to his bank of computer monitors and presses a key, causing all six of them to spark to life at once. He taps another key and a program boots, he taps in a few keys and a suit of armor starts to sketch itself from nothing. In the end, a figure is displayed. Forty thousand dollars. He types in something else, and the suit is altered. The figure updates as well. Sixty five thousand dollars.(1/2)
Eli swivels around in his chair, resting his elbows against his knees. "Right, so. The armored suit with the gauntlets would cost me about forty thousand, which means I'd charge you about forty-five. The flight suit would be sixty five for me, which means seventy for you. These are rough estimates by the way, I may update the figure as I work."Yeesh, seems you'll need to dip into your newly acquired millions either way. >Commission the armored suit w/ amplifying gauntlets.>Commission the flight suit w/ amplifying gauntlets.>You're not interested in either.>Buy the SMG and pistol at the named prices.>Try to negotiate the prices down.

You tap in twenty two thousand dollars into your phone and transfer the funds to Eli's account. "I think I'll take the flight suit. Payment upon delivery, as usual. Oh, before I go. Does this helmet have a voice synthesizer?"Eli gestures vaguely in your general direction. "Yeah, and yeah. Well, more of a voice modulator. It can change the pitch of your voice but it can't emulate the voices of others." He swivels around to face his bank of computer monitors. "Anyway, good luck out there Kaiser-" A nickname he gave you when the two of you still worked together. "-good luck out there. I'm guessing the suit will take me about a month to smash together, but I'll call you if it gets done sooner. Oh, and you can grab some ammunition from the bin by the door."You debate where to stick the pistol, at one point accidentally pressing a button on the side. You're pleased to see that it collapses into itself, and you're able to slide it into your pocket. Damn, that's convenient. The SMG is a bit easier since folded up it doesn't really look like anything. You'll just carry it out. "See yah, Eli. Try and get out in the sun from time to time."He grunts, barely acknowledging that you've spoken as he starts crafting your suit in his design program. You slip out the heavy steel door, pausing only to collect ten spare batteries and six magazines, and slide the bulky construction closed behind you. The lock grinds into place as soon as it shuts. It's a short trip through the abandoned apartment building down to the street, where your car sits parked outside. It's an unwieldy yacht of a car, all plush leather and real wood paneling, but damn if it isn't comfy. You fish your keys out of a pocket and pop the trunk, depositing the SMG in the trunk before climbing into the driver's seat.(1/2)
You check the time. The meeting you had was scheduled for four PM, at an address about a half hour from here. Right now it's just approaching two o'clock, so you've got an hour to kill. You drive around the block while you consider your options. You could always just grab some lunch, you're sorta hungry after this morning's activities. You resolve to scout the area. Setting off towards the riverfront you navigate light traffic while listening to the radio. Every AM station on the air is talking about the situation in the Middle East. Iran is advancing on Mecca, militants seized Baghdad, Israel launching a two pronged assault on Syria and Jordan. On and on it goes. You switch to FM, and fiddle with the radio until you find a rock station you like. Now that the boomers have finally started dying en masse you can usually find a rock station that plays something released after the twentieth century. You swing through a drive through and get an order of chicken strips, the least greasy thing on the menu, before heading towards the meeting place in the shittier part of town. The further you get from downtown the more dilapidated the buildings become. It used to be that the suburbs were the nicest parts of any city, but these days it's the opposite. What were once ghettos and tenement buildings have been gentrified or replaced, and the suburbs have turned into drug infested shitholes. You drive past a crumbling tower. It seems abandoned, and the front doors are bound together with a rusty chain. There's a side door open though. Looks like the entrance to a fire escape. This seems like the sort of place you'd expect to find homeless people shooting heroin. You take a few drives around the block, and increasingly find that you stick out like a sore thumb. Not only your car, but your clothes and just your appearance in general. You don't have enough open sores to fit in here. It'll be a bitch to find a safe place to park that doesn't get your car broken into.(1/2)
If you need to make a break for it, there are three obvious avenues of escape. You could hop into your car and book it down the riverfront to greener pastures, or deeper into the slums. You find that the streets grow narrow and winding the deeper in you go, as people have thrown together shacks in the road for housing. You could also head out on foot. There are all sorts of old factories and warehouses and apartments to get lost in. It just depends on what they come at you with. An old rail bridge catches your eye as well. Your car could barely fit on the tracks, and it would take you to the other side of the river. Might be worth a shot.As you pull back up to the tower you slide your car into an alleyway and park just in front of a garbage can. Ensuring that you have all of your valuables, you have your helmet slide up to conceal your face. Might as well maintain some modicum of secrecy, as long as you're trying to be a supervillain.Stepping out you lock your car, reaching into your pocket to grip the handle of your pistol. It's a strange comfort. You slip into the fire escape and ascend the stairs, switching on nightvision to allow you to orient yourself. The stairwell is disgusting, and you identify more than a few piles of what could either be vomit of faeces. This place is clearly lived in. You pass a blood stained mattress on the sixth floor, but as you turn the corner to ascend the stairs to the eighth you're met with a surprisingly sleek metal doorway. It's painted white, with an orange symbol emblazoned on the front. It clashes quite starkly with its surroundings. This is the top floor, the eighth floor, so you can only assume that this is where your meeting is supposed to be. There's a speaker embedded in the wall near the door, but you don't see any call button.(2/3)
As you approach, a buzzer sounds and the door hisses open. Inviting you in. It's well lit inside so you deactivate your night vision. It seems to be some sort of airlock, since there's a second door inside. You get the feeling that you won't be able to get out again without the assent of whoever controls this facility.>No sense backing out now.>You've got a bad feel about this, Scoob. Ditch.>Write-in

You scan the walls of the chamber carefully. You identify six chemical sprayers arrayed in clear sight. You suppose that would make sense if it was a decontamination chamber of some sort. Your mask should filter out anything harmful, so it's not a huge concern. You spare your clothes a glance. You're wearing a short sleeved white t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a thick canvas jacket. You decided against wearing your body armor, a decision you're starting to regret. So long as they don't hit you with mustard gas or acid or something like that you should be fine. Stepping into the chamber the door slides shut behind you, air hissing as the chamber pressurizes. Mist starts to spray from the nozzles lining the ceiling, covering you in some sort of rapidly evaporating substance. You can't smell it, but a display pops up on your HUD telling you it's medical grade alcohol in solution with water. After a few seconds the mist stops and the other door slides open. You step into a darkened room. Switching on your night vision you see three figures standing still in the room. Each one is garbed in long robes and wearing some sort of mask. None of them seemed armed, but they could hide a lot in those robes.More worrying than the three men are the eight turrets with their barrels pointed in your direction. They're not firing, but you're sure if you make some sort of wrong move they'll start firing. You take a few confident steps forward and deactivate the night vision just as a spotlight flicks on, illuminating you and the three other figures. You'd be blinded, but your helmet corrects for the sudden brightness.(1/3)
In the light, you can see more detail on each of the three figures. The one on the left is wielding some sort of rifle, and wearing an armored suit from what you can see. His mask is modeled after a gaunt face. You'd describe it as skeletal. The one on the right is wearing the longest robes of any of them, and seems to have on a gas mask of some sort. The one in the center is the most monstrous of the three, his mask obviously meant to imitate a skull. It's the one on the right who speaks, his voice coming out distorted and warbling. "Welcome. We apologize for the locale, but it is necessary to remain discreet."The one on the left picks up where the one on the right leaves off, their two voices indistinguishable except by the direction from which they originate. "We have a few jobs for you to choose from. We are pleased with your previous performance and these have been selected to play to your strengths."The one to your left falls silent and the figure in the center picks up. Unlike the other two, his voice isn't distorted. He sounds old and weary, or perhaps wizened. He's obviously a man, judging by the pitch of his voice. "I give you a choice. A luxury that not everyone receives. Regardless of what you pick, the payment will be two million dollars."You frown, you were hoping for something a little more than two million. Your last job was six million, after all. Granted they were probably planning for you to split that with the mercenaries you hired. Your good fortune they all either failed you or died. Silence reigns for an uncomfortable stretch, so you decide you might as well speak. "I suppose I'll hear out your offers, at least. No guarantee I'll accept."(2/3)
The one on your left voices his job first. "There is an estate outside of the city, in the mountains. It houses a very valuable piece of technology. It's stored in the basement. We wish for you to retrieve it. The identity of the item should be self-evident upon entering the basement."Next the one to your right speaks. "We have identified the civilian guise of one 'Doctor Voxel'. A man with the ability to create matter at will." You've heard of him. He's one of the most prominent heroes working with the government. He's created all sorts of revolutionary materials which defy the laws of physics. "We wish for you to kill him. Details will be sent to you upon accepting our offer."The central figure is the last to speak. "A rival firm has been interfering with my business. I wish for you to place a bomb in their building. You need not detonate it, I will handle that myself. As my associate said, details will be sent if you accept."You find it odd that the central figure is the only one to refer to itself in the first person singular. The others both used plural.>Accept the job to steal the device.>Accept the job to kill the Doctor.>Accept the job to plant the bomb.>Politely refuse to work with these creeps.

Its been ages since it ran, but does anyone else remember Iron Master? last decent cape-villain quest i remember
You glance between each of the three figures. You're not sure you'd be able to just kill someone in cold blood. Sure you probably killed or at least severely injured a few cops while making your escape from the bank, but those were cops. Plus they'd been shooting at you. You bear no ill will towards a bunch of office workers nor towards this Doctor Voxel character. So you decide to steal whatever it is they want you to steal. Not like they're being particularly detailedi n their description. "I'll steel whatever this piece of tech is. Mind describing it for me in a little more detail than 'I'll know it when I see it'? Because that's not helpful."The figure on your left, the one in the armored suit and holding the rifle, speaks up while the other two remain silently staring at you. "Information will be sent to you via phone in the form of a diagnostic file describing the device and its function."As soon as he's finished speaking the lights shut off, and you're left momentarily submerged in darkness. You flick on your night vision and see the three figures descending silently into the floor on powered lifts of some sort. This would probably be really eerie without the helmet. You might actually be slightly intimidated. The door slides open behind you and cast light on the room, revealing it to be empty. When you turn around, you find that the turrets are gone too. You deactivate the nightvision to step into the decontamination chamber, wondering why there is a decontamination chamber in the first place while it mist you with what is essentially rubbing alcohol. Why would they need the room to be sterile? It isn't long before you're stepping out into the alley where you parked your car. You're relieved to see it unscathed. No broken windows, nobody took a dump on the roof, no graffiti. You slip inside and kick the car into reverse, practically peeling out in your rush to get the hell away from this part of town.(1/2)
Your windows are tinted, so you let your helmet slide away. It's as you're driving along the riverfront towards the nicer side of downtown that your phone buzzes. You reach for it, but think better of fucking around on your phone while you drive. As you near downtown you see a flash in the air, followed by the bright bloom of an explosion and a figure crashing through the windows of a skyscraper. Glass clatters against the pavement near you shortly after the sound of the explosion reaches you, thundering dully in your ears. The cops haven't yet arrived to seal the area off, so the fight must have just broken out. Your helmet slides up to cover your face almost unbidden and your view focuses in on the figure flying towards the tower. It's a woman, you can't tell her age. She's wearing an armored suit covered in jets which she seems quite adept at controlling. The explosion seems to have been caused by a battery of rockets sitting on her shoulder. Whoever she's fighting must be pretty sturdy to survive getting hit by a rocket. She's wearing a full mask, so you can't really tell much about her.>Head back to your apartment.>Find a cafe to get a cup of coffee and read through the details.>Look for a shooting range to get some practice in.>Try to get a better view of whatever the hell is going on>Write-in

You drive on slowly, tapping a button on your steering will as you distance yourself from the fight. Your music cuts out and the car chimes, indicating that it's waiting for your voice command. Once your helmet has collapsed into a metal band surrounding your neck, you speak loudly and clearly to get your meaning across. "Call Rosa, mobile."The car chimes again and a moment later ringing filters through the speakers. Rosa picks up on the third ring. Her voice is slurred and weak, like she's only just woken up. "Hey Monti, what's up?"Another explosion filters through the thick sound proofing of your car. "I just wanted to make sure you were safe." Partially true, your paranoia got the best of you and you worried she might secretly be a superhero or something like that. If she's registered you're not sure it'd be safe to associate with her. "There's a fight going on downtown, a woman shooting rockets from her shoulders at some other dude, didn't see them. Anyway, glad to hear your voice."She yawns on the other end of the line, and you hear sheets ruffling. "Awww, that's sweet Monti. I take it you're fine? How's work?"You speed up a bit to avoid an oncomming cop car with its sirens on, which comes screeching at full speed around the corner just seconds behind you. "I'm fine, and work is hectic. I'm running across town to meet with a client. He's throwing a shitfit because one of the boys in tech forgot to close his brackets. Anyway, I should be home in an hour or two. Love yah."(1/3)
She responds in kind, and the line disconnects. You pluck up your phone and quickly key in a search for near-by shooting ranges while you drive. If you're really going to get into this whole supervillain thing you need to learn to shoot. Sure your powers are versatile but they're not exactly bruiser powers. One is a utility power with some attack and defense capabilities and the other enhances your mobility. You find an indoor shooting range downtown and navigate your way through city traffic to reach the place. You find a parking space just outside and siddle out of your car, retrieving your SMG and your six extra magazines from the trunk. The great thing about living in Virginia is that not only do you not need to register your guns, it's an open carry state. The building itself is a long, squat brick construction. It's painted black, with set of red crosshairs painted on the side. Ducking inside, you find the interior to be dimly lit and full of smoke. Automatic gunfire echoes from just beyond a door off to the side of the register. Sounds like the range is pretty full today. The owner is sitting behind a glass case full of handguns and knives, a cigarette dangling from his lips and a shotgun sitting next to him. He's portly, and wears a greasy shirt and a pair of jeans. Despite his appearance he kicks his feet off the counter and stands up to greet you cheerily. "Welcome to Happy Harry's House of Handguns!" Guy digs his alliteration, you suppose. "I'm Harry. What can I getcha?"You hold up your SMG. "I was actually just hoping to use your range. I've been meaning to practice my shooting for a while."Harry leans his weight against the counter top. "Well, range is ten dollars per use or free for members. Membership is fifty dollars a year. If you plan on coming here often, I recommend getting the membership. First time's free though, so go right on inside."(2/3)
You nod in thanks before grabbing a set of foam ear plugs out of a bin and inspecting them to make sure they're clean. Satisfied that they are, you push them into your ears and shoulder open the door to the range.Immediately you're assaulted by a barage of noise. Guns firing off all around you, men yelling, music pounding through the speakers. It's overwhelming, but you navigate your way to an empty stall. There's already a target set up down range, about a hundred feet. A knob on the counter top probably serves to adjust the range. You move it in to fifty feet, since you know you're a terrible shot, before unfolding your SMG and bracing the butt of the gun against your shoulder.>ROOOOLL 3d10+1 to see how you do! DC is 10 to hit the target once, 15 to do okay-ish, 20 to do well, and 25 to seem like a crack shot.

You make sure the fire selector is lined up with single shot, that the safety isn't on, and take firm hold of the forward grip. You aim down the sights at the vaguely man-shaped target and squeeze the trigger. You're surprised to find that the kick is negligible, and as you straighten up to inspect your handywork you find that there is a tiny hole just slightly off center of the target. You look down the sights again and squeeze off a few more rounds, the feel of the rifle in your hands incredibly satisfying. You usually hit the target, though you've yet to hit the little red dot in the center. After emptying the first magazine you lower the gun and press down on the mag release and catch the empty as it falls from the SMG's grip. You set the empty aside and load a fresh mag, smacking it lightly to make sure it's in before switching the fire selector to fully automatic and raising the butt to your shoulder. This time as you squeeze the trigger five shots rattle out before you can take your finger off again, the muzzle swinging upward. You hadn't really been braced properly. There's a line of bullet holes stitched across the front of the target but there's also a dent in the ceiling where one bullet ricocheted. You feel someone tap your shoulder, and turn to find a vaguely annoyed looking man with an unhealthy pallor to his skin and a cigarette dangling from his lips staring at you. He wears severe shades of black and grey, and he's got this shitty goatee crawling across his chin. He motions for you to take out your earbuds.(1/3)
You do so, and he speaks. "Your form is crap, man." You open your mouth to protest, but he waves you off. He snatches the gun from your hands and shoulders you aside, taking up position where you were standing a moment ago and dropping one foot back to brace himself. His whole body is angled forward, his hands firmly clutching the grip and pressing the butt against his shoulder. He squeezes the trigger and this time the muzzle drift is negligible. He plants three rounds in the target, two dead center and a third just slightly above the red dot of the bull's eye. He does this three more times before thrusting the gun back into your hands and stepping aside. "Imitate me, and don't fuck up this time."It's hard to make out what he's saying above the noise of the range but you get the gist of it and step into the center of the stall, mimicing his stance. As you raise the gun to your shoulder you start to speak. "You know I appreciate the help and all but you could be a little more-"He cuts you off. "Shut the fuck up and shoot you whiny faggot. I'm not here to make friends I'm here to make sure you don't kill anyone with your incompetence. Cock munch." God damn, what is this guy's deal? You've half a mind to throw this guy across the room, but his advice is good so you suppose you'll listen for now.Squeezing the trigger, the muzzle drift this time isn't nearly as bad. It's worse than it was when he did it, but not nearly as bad. You empty the rest of the magazine and press the mag release, catching the empty and setting it down on the counter top. Not bad, you suppose. You even hit the bull's eye once.>Gunnery skill increased by 1.(2/3)
You turn to face the asshole who nagged you about it, but he grabs hold of your shoulders and forcibly turns you to face down range. "Keep the gun pointed down range, dumb shit. Even if you think it's empty. Goddamn, you never been shooting before?"You sigh, setting the rifle down on the counter pointed down range before turning around. "No, I haven't. Well, I have but never at a range."The man nods. "Yeah, it shows. You're shit." He holds out his hand. "I'm Walter. I give lessons to folks trying to get their concealed carry permit on the weekends."You take his hand, shaking. His grip is uncomfortably firm. "Cesare." You feel like you need something more than that. "I mostly shoot as a hobby, and in case I ever need to defend myself" That's not entirely a lie, you suppose.Walter folds his arms in front of his chest. "Great. Well so long as your attacker is standing stock still and doesn't get too close you ought to do just fine. Which is to say, you're fucked if you ever actually need to defend yourself with a firearm.">You appreciate the pointers but this guy can go fuck himself.>Ask if he has any other advice, might as well swallow your pride.>That's enough shooting for today. Excuse yourself and make a break for the exit.>Write-in

Think I'll probably call it after the next post. Since it's 3 AM. I dig this setting and the themes and shit, so I might run this again sometime soon. Banished Quest tomorrow and Saturday. I might run this Friday, Sunday, or Monday. Probably either Monday or Sunday. Keep an eye on the twitter.Writin' for >Ask if he has any other pointers.ROOOLL me a 3d10+2 real quick as well.

>>39949040>>39949003Incidentally I sorta like this scaled DC thing I'm doing. I might transfer that over to things that aren't BQ. I feel in BQ Vys makes up for the relative difficulty of hitting the DCs raw.
Considering if we ever get highly leveled in terms of being a Vatis over at Banished, we can potentially just power through every single roll by spending absurd amounts of Vys and topping off reserves with our artifacts.
>>39949114Thats why soma said after the time skip we would play a new character.
>>39949138Hopefully we'll be more of a lone wolf. Or have a bunch of constructs. I feel that in Banished Quest, we play so conservatively because we'd absolutely hate for any single one of our companions to get hurt or die.
>>39949153Or because every single time we did something reckless (admittedly in situations where it was obvious this would happen) we became all kinds of insane as a consequence.I'm... sort of not trying to shit stir there saying that, but probably am without thinking about it.
You scratch at your forearm uncomfortably. "Got any other tips, so long as you're here?" You'll swallow your pride. You won't like it, but if this guy can help you with your shooting you'll do it.Walter motions for you to turn around, swirling his finger in the air. "Pick up the rifle and start shooting. I'll correct you whenever you make a mistake."You spend the next few hours plinking away at targets. Apparently you can get a new target put up by pressing a button. A robotic arm descends from the ceiling and rips off the paper sheet, replacing it with a new one. You shoot at a variety of ranges and settings, from ten feet to two hundred feet. You empty all six magazines that you have for your SMG and eat through one of the batteries for your energy pistol. You get some looks when you start firing off bolts of plasma, but energy weapons aren't that uncommon. Yours certainly are, since you pulled a bar of metal about the size of your palm out of your pocket, pressed a button, and in an instant held a gun in your hand. You find that the stance for holding a pistol is wildly different to the stance for shooting with a stock. You started off trying to shoot one handed but Walter chewed you out for a solid ten minutes for the effort. You'll not do that again. Next time you kept both hands firmly on the pistol. You found that the pistol wasn't really accurate beyond a hundred feet, the plasma lost coherency after that point. Might want to bring that to the atttention of Eli.You come to find that Walter really isn't so bad. Sure, he insults you constantly. However, it seems to usually be a good natured thing. Not always, but usually. By the time you start to pack up your things you really feel like you've learned a lot about shooting. Maybe you'll be able to hit the broadside of a barn in an actual firefight, now.>EEEEND THREAD
