You're in the fight of your life in a stopped van, fighting your kidnapper. You new friend/'sister' is on the floor of the van, scared out of her mind. You're fighting with your head spinning, and your ankles tied. Thank God that you've got special gifts. Right now is the ability to summon up a pair of knives and hurl them at the son of a bitch. >Roll 2d20

Rolled 16, 18 = 34 (2d20)>>39888037This attack is going to get absurd as we get more knives. Practically a guaranteed hit.

Rolled 19, 17 = 36 (2d20)>>39888037Wait a second, we're a pair of underage girls being kidnapped by a guy, who has a van?
>>39888080We're, like. 17. Maybe 16 at the youngest. That's not even pedo.
>>39888096Nope. Technically it's ephebophilia.
Rolled 17 (1d20)>>39888079"Ah!" He gives a brief shout as the knives slam into his chest, and blocking arm.It doesn't seem to be slowing him down, much. Also, he's not bleeding as much as a regular person would. He takes another swing with his stun club.
>>39888121Wow, we are just trading heavy shots and slugging it out with this guy, huh?
>>39888121GAH! That one got you in the side as you flopped around like a fish. The vertigo is getting a LOT worse, but you still manage to keep your bearings. Another hit like that though...probably not good.Embers reaches down and, with a grunt of effort, rips apart the weird plastic yellow ropes that were holding her ankles together.>Ash shot> Ash cloud> Ash armor> Ash choke> Ash knife> Free your ankles.
>>39888121Ash dodge? The van has stopped.
>>39888137It's a nice contrast with the earlier Embers fight. She could have been doing this too with a little luck.
>>39888137>>39888121Told'ja we should've gone with Ash Armor.
>>39888166Ash dodge towards the back of the van ideally getting out of the bonds.
>>39888166>Ash armorNo, seriously guys. Defense.
>>39888166>> Ash armorHave to agree. Maybe ask Embers if she can free our ankles?

>>39888166> Ash armor
Rolled 5 (1d20)>>39888252You focus and build your ash armor around you, the vertigo actually gets a little bit better.Plath smirks, and presses a button on the baton, the spark go from blue to red."What?!" You ask."Tributary police issue is a bit better than Peninsular crap." He slams the rod down, trying to hit you.
>>39888318That's it. That stun rod is becoming part of our equipment.
>>39888318Echo keeps on quoting my post when he makes the update. I feel special.
Rolled 14 (1d20)>>39888318You roll out of the way. He shouldn't have been talking.Embers stands up and takes a wild swing at Plath's head.

>>39888352About time you didn't suck, girl.

>>39888377>Ash knife the tape player
I wonder if eventually Embers can get explosive punches ala Ralf Jones from King of Fighters.
>>39888433Vertigo a shit. And we shoot two knives, we aim one at the tape player, one at Plath.
>>39888408>Ash shot the tape player.
>>39888433Hmm, probably because it is making us woozy. In game terms its a bad status effect as long as it is on.
>>39888433Deny him any and every possible advantage.Even if it means we trek the wasteland with no tunes.
Rolled 12 (1d20)>>39888425You turn and shoot a blast of ash at the tape player. >>39888531> Ash ChokeDoes Embers normally roll like shit?
>>39888531> Free your ankles
>>39888567Seems to. We'll just chalk it up to inexperience. She talks a big game, but she cannot back it up for the life of her.
>>39888584The smallest dogs always bark the loudest.
>>39888584It really seems like her issue is that she is always swinging for the fences as opposed to working harder on hitting the ball more.
>>39888584It's just luck. She should get to roll two dice or something, one less than our three dice protagonist gets.
Maybe ask Pytor to teach her how to punch?

Rolled 15 (1d20)>>39888646You dodge out of the way.Embers tries another wild swing. She...she just has no idea how to fight. She actually has her thumb stuck inside her fist.
>>39888646Is he seriously still trying to hit us? I'd be going after Embers if I were him.I guess we were the easier and more dangerous target, but she's all up in his face punching him.
>>39888618I love metaphors like this.
>>39888660Definitely ask Pytor to teach her how to punch.
>>39888666Hell, even that kinda makes plot sense- she's ONLY hitting him when we have his attention and we dodge a swing. She's basically our auto-counterattack.
>>39888660Of course, who needs skill when your punches have the force of two or three sledgehammers behind them.Plath blocks the punch, but you HEAR the bones in his arm crack, and he gives a grunt of pain. >>39888753You kick at Plath. At this point, you are at the back of the van, looking towards the driver's seat, Plath is looking at you, Embers is to the side.Your foot connects with Plath's chest, and you feel the slightest crack, and he lets out a gasp as you knock the wind out of him, and he goes flying back. Then you find yourself instantly behind Plath, and your foot is still flying out backwards. You ash dodged perfectly, and your foot slams into Plath's face and sends him flying the other way. He crashes through the back door of the van, which bursts open, and he lands on his head on the asphalt. He's twitching, and giving of a gasping moan of someone in immense pain who has no air in their lungs to scream with.Embers lets out a scream and jumps out of the van, and gets on top of Plath, with both knees on the man's chest."JERK! BASTARD! MONSTER! LOSER! CREEP! PERVERT!"With each PG rated insult, she slams her fist into his face. After the ninth or tenth 'Jerk' you're pretty sure she's now cracking the asphalt. "Oh...oh no...no no...is he...is he...did I?"You just nod. "Although I think I might hav-""I'M SO SORRY!" Embers says as she gets down next to Plath's body. "You'll be okay. It's just...it's just...I'm so sorry...I'm so sorry. I didn't mean...I just..I just...."And now she's vomiting again. When she's finished, she looks at all the blood on her bare chest, and then back at you. She shakes her head and closes her eyes. And Emmy is back, in her overalls, and auburn hair. She clings to you and starts to sob and wail. You pat her on the back, and gently take her back to the van.You sit there in the van, sighing. Emmy's in the back of the van in the fetal position, sobbing. You are fucked. You have NO idea where you are. No idea how to get back to Peninsular, let ALONE Genesis. The van doesn't have any supplies in it, save for a blanket that's Emmy's wrapped up in.If you stay here, you're going to starve, or a pack of hounds are going to eat you.If you drive, you're going to go in circles, until the van runs out of battery charge, and then see the above option for the result. You've checked Plath's pockets and the van. He had one of those small mini-Screen gadgets. It's just got a green dot on the screen. When you press it, the dot turns blue for a moment. Then a bunch of small dots pop onto the screen, a few grow. They all pulse for a few moments, and then it goes to a red arrow that points in one direction. Then after a couple of minutes, it goes back to the Green Dot.There's also a second radio in the van. You assume that this is what Plath was using to talk to his people.Lastly, this city looks very overgrown, and there's fallout flowers here and there. That means that there might be unsalvaged buildings there...and also horrible death.(cont)
>>39889116No. Lupa doesn't do that kind of thing.
>>39889132> Follow the red mystery arrow on Plath's gadget. Hey, he had it for a reason, and that means that the arrow's got to point somewhere, right?> Try to see if there's anyone on the radio, AFTER turning away from Plath's frequency. Maybe you can contact Genesis, they have radio towers, right? They've got good range...right?> It's getting late, and you need shelter and food. The other stuff can wait. >>39889165>Turn te car around and follow the tracks back.>Radio while you do this.
In the morning we can comb the city for a map. Once we have our general location finding our way back is simple.
>>39889196This being a fallout zone probably means that we should leave.
>>39889165>Try to see if there's anyone on the radio, AFTER turning away from Plath's frequency. Maybe you can contact Genesis, they have radio towers, right? They've got good range...right?
>>39889165>> It's getting late, and you need shelter and food. The other stuff can wait. You need to drive into the city now and find some place to shack up for the moment. We also need to emphasize that he was a Bad Man, and that killing is something she's probably going to have to get used to, unfortunately.
>>39889132Wasn't plath supposed to be writing something down?
>>39889208This, we really would rather not be hanging out in the fallout too long.>>39889185My original vote.
>>39889266We don't need to mind the fallout. It's probably not enough to get through Ashes and Embers resistance.Emmy isn't Embers right now though.
>>39889284Ooh, you're right.
>>39889239That doesn't ring very true when Lupa only got her first kill, like... two days ago? At Gold's studio.Admittedly, that's because Pytor killed everyone for her, but still.
>>39889355...What? I could've sworn we've aced someone way earlier. Several folks, even.
>>39889191You fiddle with the radio, as you try and deduce where Plath had come from. You're under an overpass on some surface streets. Apparently you've been winding your way through this maze of a city, and at some point were driving on this overpass...yeah, you are not getting out of here without knowing where you are going."Hello?" A voice says on the radio. "Hello? Girls in the van?""Hello!" You say. "Who is this?""Did you kill that horrible zealot?" The female voice asks."Who is this?" You ask."I'm not with them. I'm trapped in the University. The building I'm in is secure, but the grounds are fallout heavy. You are Joy-In-Hearts, correct?" The voice asks."How do you know?" You ask."I can see you. The traffic cams have low-CE siphons, and I hacked into them. I can see you in the driving seat." The voice says. You look, and indeed there's a traffic camera on top of that dead signal light. It's red light is on."You're dangerously close to the People-Of-Joy's territory. They'll capture you for sure if you stay there. I can guide you to a safe place to stay." The voice says."Can't I come find you?" You ask."The University's not in Tributary. You'd have to drive through it. Three days, at least." The voice says. "I'll help you when I can.""Why?" You ask."Because maybe you can help me get out of here." The voice says. "The People-Of-Joy said that they'd rescue me if I helped them, and I trusted them...I was terribly silly to have trusted them."You sigh. It's not as if you have better options. "Fine. Where are we going?""Well...the safest places to be are where there are Joy-In-Heart corpses. You have your choice, would you like to visit a traitor first, or a psychopath?"> Traitor> Psychopath> Option C and ignore the woman on the other end of the radio and try to find shelter on your own.
Guys, I have a really bad feeling. We were seen walking away with a citizen (or a citizen's child, if Emmy hasn't earned it as well), from Pytor's van, and have now as far as Genesis knows kidnapped her. Pytor's going to be taken in, and assumed to be involve - nobody trusts traders and scavs like us. Rozen's eye is going to tell him that Pytor distracted her to cover our escape, which is true. The longer we're gone...... the higher the chance that all of our assets are seized and repurposed, and that Pytor ends up taking a long drop on a short rope. We need to gather what we can, and find a way home.
>>39889384>> TraitorUh. Okay. Fine, let's do as this woman says.
>>39889384>> Traitor>>39889401Nice logic, and now you've made me worried- but I don't think we can run the risk of dying ourselves.
>>39889384> TraitorThese people speak to our brains. Lets make sure they are sane.
>>39889401This is true, but the last update makes it look like we were living in the sticks. I want to see what this new person is all about.
>>39889384> Option C and ignore the woman on the other end of the radio and try to find shelter on your own.
>>39889401>>39889415As a DM, I can say, if the QM wasn't planning this already, he's certainly considering it now. Nice job, self.>>39889384Traitor. West Wind was technically being a traitor when she protected her girls, maybe this one isn't so bad...?I certainly don't want a psychopath in our head. It's crowded in there.
Remind me, the People Of Jot aren't the ones that want to reset the world, right?
>>39889467Yes. There are two factions, the one trying to capture us and the one that seems to be helping out Genesis and handing out mirrors and ribbons. They both seem to want the Age of Joy to come back, though.
>>39889467Yes they are. They are the ones we first met in the museum. My guess? The Righteous Path was started by a zealot of the People of Joy who felt things weren't going fast enough.
Considering the scale we seem to be working at here, we might be dealing with city-states and not proper countries.
>>39889467Yeah they both want to reset the worldThey may represent the different countries from back then though
>>39889415"Give me the traitor." You say. "We off to a prison?""White collar." The voice says. "It was rather a scandal when she was sent there, but Love made a plea apparently. People can be so silly when it comes to obscure concepts like justice. A lot of people thought she was a hero.""Who was this person, what did she do?" You ask."She was the mayor of this city. She was Joy-In-Civility, but people also called her Joy-In-Agora...the name of the town you're in." She says."Well, what did she do?" You ask."She was afraid and very silly, she sold state secrets to the Peninsular government." The voice says."That's high treason." You're startled to hear Emmy's voice and see her slip into the seat next to you. "Why wasn't she executed?""Technically she was." The voice says. "But I'd be interested if either of you could find out more.""Why?" You ask."Because Agora was one of the last people to see Joy-In-Love before she disappeared into OLYMPUS." The voice says."What IS that place?" You ask."I don't know...but I think Love was scared of something...and OLYMPUS was her attempt to fight that fear." The voice says. Then it sighs. "It seems she was too late."Although...with you two now here...maybe there's still a chance. Of course, I shouldn't say things like that.Hope is very silly."END PART 8
>>39889401Rozen isn't stupid enough to kill Pytor: He's a valuable asset. He'll get forced into working for Genesis at worst, especially if he spills everything he knows about us.>>39889599That seems likely. We are in Trib territory now.
>>39889616I like this woman. I like this woman a lot. Here's to a long and profitable relationship.
>>39889616Are you an AI?
>>39889647The way she talks is suspicious. Also she is living in a high fallout zone?... Yeah she is obviously not normal.
>>39889704Her not being normal was clear the moment the People of Joy had an interest in her, I think. They wouldn't give a shit about normal sad shadows.
I want to hear the freakout when we tell her we already killed West Wind and Gold.
>>39889616What does our regalia look like, exactly?

Did we just skip straight to a completely different arc because of one bad roll?
>>39890071At least we didn't get and now everyone hates you forever and there is nothing you can do about it, like a certain quest I wont mention.
We're not going to get a chance to get our two felines anytime soon, are we?

>>39893056As much as I don't think we should go mad looking for the cats, we did bond with them at the time. If we ever return to Gold's studios, we should try to collect them.Feline friends are the best friends.
>>39897931Pet them for a bit and feed them, yeah. But take them with us? They're only going to die if they're with us, you know. The biggest kindness is acknowledging that our Felines are not rated for Joy in Heart battles. One Feline already lost his or her life attempting to help us. I don't want to make it all of them.
