Khornates are typically simple daemons. Critical thinking isn’t in their job description. So long as they have a direction to go in and a foe to fight they have a purpose. Why bother stopping to understand why a certain Space Marine is dying before them when they die all the same? It’s this sort of mindset which makes you a literal savant and deviant among all other Khornates. Sure, you’re nowhere near Ignitrix’s or even Acerea’s level of knowledge, but at least you’re trying to understand.Though perhaps “trying” isn’t the word to describe what you’re going through at the moment. The longer Ignitrix drones on and on about time, causality, and so forth the more you feel like you’d get better results beating your head against a wall. Despite this you listen on. Partly because the Lady of Change is trying her best and partly because it all seems so very important. Plus it keeps you from dwelling on the fact you now know each other’s True Names. You don’t know that you’ll ever truly get over that. Especially with the dire picture Iggy keeps painting about where the Galaxy is going.Welcome to Khornette Quest.

Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshiping the printed word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. Others it swerves hard to one side and/or breaks this model entirely. You’ve been warned in advance.Alternatively, if you’re not at all familiar with canon or want more details on something, just ask!All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure. Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored. In order to encourage use of things like BS in the future, I’ve attached a handy chart of combat modifiers. You may burn (i.e. gone forever) 10 infamy to completely reroll a check (i.e. three new 1d100). If you have above 10 infamy, you are allowed a single additional 1d100 roll for any check during a session. Tonight you get to witness me butcher Necrons and technobabble in general.Excessive meta/whining/waifu’ing/etc goes to another thread. Blatant Samefaggotry and overly lewd write-ins will be ignored.
>>38254607 A consternated sigh passes from Ignitrix’s lips as she rubs her forehead. “Okay let’s go over what we now know then.”She holds up two differently-colored sock puppets: orange and yellow.Y: “Hi, I’m Ignitrix. I am and have always been human! Time is interesting! I want to study it! So I will!”O: “Grrr! I am the evil daemon prince who will destroy everything! The only way to stop me now is to prevent me from becoming a daemon prince in the first place!”Y: “I have discovered time travel! I must go stop the evil daemon prince and save the Imperium! But I can’t do it alone! I must form an Ordo!”O: “I am slain!”A green colored puppet floats up beside the other two.G: “Hi! I’m Ignitrix from the future! I am and have always been human and a part of the Ordo Chronos! Yellow me must not be allowed to mess with the past! I must stop her!”O: “I’m alive!”Red joins the fray. “Hi! I’m Ignitrix from a different future than the others! I am part daemon but I haven’t always been! If I let Green me stop Yellow me then I won’t exist in the first place and all my plans will be ruined!”O: “I’m not sure if I’m alive or dead anymore!”All three Ignitrix-facsimiles speak at once, “Oh no! We’ve cancelled each other out too much! We’re being erased from time!” Finally a blue puppet. You like this one. “Hi! I’m the best Ignitrix! I’m an awesome Lady of Change…”“Who loves headpats,” you sneak in.“...who loves headpats,” adds Ignitrix, still in her mocked-up voice of pride. She blinks twice before growling, “Wait… grr… never mind. Anyways... “> (cont)
>>38340025B: “I can see all the tiny changes in the timeline. All the other me’s have been erased from ever existing but I’m different because I’m a daemon of Tzeentch!”O: “O wise and powerful Ignitrix, please do not-”You hold up a hand, stopping Ignitrix’s little play across from you in the bloodbath. “Okay I get this much now. Some version of you made the Ordo Chronos only to have other versions try and prevent it from happening in the first place. But doesn’t that mean there shouldn’t be an Ordo Chronos?”Ignitrix nods. “Yes and no. Each time someone changes something in the past, present, or future one of two things happens. First, an alternate timeline forms. Each timeline is connected but also not. Think of it like Khorne: a version of him will always exist.”“But it’s not the same Khorne every time then?”“Exactly. The only Chaos Gods that are able to comprehend and manipulate other timelines are Nurgle and Tzeentch. Not because the other two are entirely incapable of it but because they simply don’t care. And even then Nurgle more often than not lets things stay as they are.”“And the second thing?” you ask.“The second is a paradox occurs. Say you go back and kill your past self for some reason. You do and then you cease to exist. But if you cease to be then how did you kill yourself in the first place? How a paradox resolves itself is up to the actors and the action involved.”You hide your face in your hands as you try to parse that one out. “So… how does this all relate back to you and me?”All of the puppets vanish with a hand wave from Ignitrix. “It’s thanks to the Ordo that you and I actually exist in our current states. This ship, the people we’ve run into, that sort of thing.”“My brain hurts,” you admit. “I feel like I should be mad at a you that isn’t you for messing with my existence. And that I should go punch past me in the face or something.”“Except for the last bit that’s probably about right actually.”> (cont)
>>38340050You groan loudly and slip lower into the red, viscous liquid. “Let’s pretend I understand half of that. Why are we here at this particular planet?”Ignitrix wades back across the pool to sit beside you once more. “There’s a very very powerful rift at the planet’s core. It’s similar in nature to that of the Hadex Anomaly and the Pandaemonium. All three Warp Storms cause time to contort, shift, loopback, and otherwise violate itself.”“And we’re poking it because...?”“Because we need to use it to prevent a paradox. I suppose it’ll also mean you’ll have actual enemies to fight from now on.”> Cry in confusion (Give up)> Let her keep speaking. That bit about having worthy foes you can focus on. You communicate as such, only to be giggled at.“You’d think that, wouldn’t you?” teases Ignitrix. “You’re on the right track but you’re not quite there yet.”She smiles at you and pats your arm. “It’s true that a large number of us Tzeentch daemons rely on the fact that our plans will succeed in one timeline or another. You could say that we plan on the plans not even existing sometimes. Those aside, though, my case is special because of how paradoxes resolve themselves.”“And that would be…?”She holds up two more sock puppets, though this time she forgoes the voices. “The most common resolution between two paradoxial entities is to destroy both.” The two puppets are henceforth run into each other and made to explode in a shower of light. “Even daemons aren’t entirely immune to this.”The blue puppet comes back along with a slightly less blue one. “Usually daemons involved in a paradox combine with themselves.” Before you the two puppets combine into one. “What comes out on the other side is a daemon with the experience of both timelines but not necessarily one cognisant of such.”“But… that doesn’t make any sense,” you put forth.“I try not to think about it too much either. Where I’m going with this is the fact that the me you *so* love giving headpats is the result of countless iterations compounding on each other while remaining aware of everything.”“I… see?”“No you don’t but thank you for trying.” Ignitrix makes to give you a headpat for once, only to stop mid-motion.> Pout and move into it. Smug Cinder is Smug.Writing...
>>38341526Feeling rather smug about the fact you managed to reach that conclusion on your own you pick up Ignitrix like a teddy bear and clutch her close. Along the way the Lady of Change protests and squawks but otherwise proceeds to pout once she’s stopped moving. “You and your stupid temporal violations. You know that’s the only reason you can exist in realspace, right?”You hum inquisitively, otherwise preoccupied. She’s quick to reply, “That’s why things keep breaking down around you or otherwise redirect themselves. Instead of actually causing paradoxes or alternate timelines or both you literally just exist like a constant. A constant able to impose her will however she likes.”“Sounds like someone’s jealous~”“I AM NOT!”After a minute of her plumage being extended, she admits in a low whisper, “Okay maybe a little.”“I knew it,” you say rather contentedly.“A-Anyways,” she coughs and tries to change the subject. “The reason we need to use this rift is because I need you to kill something for the past me.”“Sounds pretty simple.”“Because it is. You can handle a single Chaos Space Marine, yeah?”You squeeze her lovingly. “My name IS Cinder, isn’t it?”She huffs in protestation. “Sometimes I wonder. But yeah. We go to the rift, I open a special portal, you kill the thing, come back, and we go on our way.”> (cont)
>>38342115“Not that I’m declining, but I suppose if I didn’t then that would cause a paradox?” you ask.Ignitrix nods. “You’ve got it. But there’s also two special things about this rift you should know. The first is that once we use it every Cryptek Chronomancer, every greater daemon of Tzeentch, and every Eldar is going to immediately know what we did. Every Necron Tomb World in a 30 lightyear radius will awaken, several Craftworlds will redirect themselves, and so on.”Noticing her squirming you let her go. She doesn’t go far as you ask, “Sounds like fun.”“For you, yeah, I suppose it is, “she admits. “Though it’s also ironic in that you become the individual responsible for helping the galaxy move forward.”> Remain content and move onto other topics> Did she just imply you’re on the side of the "greater good?" But what I mean is that this rift is partially why time keeps looping back on itself. I.e. why the galaxy keeps resetting shortly after the clock ticks over into M42.”“It… does?”“Paradoxes, remember?”You once again facepalm. “Ughh…”Ignoring your cry of frustration she carries on, “I’ve dubbed it the ‘Ward Effect.’ Basically as everyone expects when the Corpse God finally decides to shit the bucket he breaks everything. Literally everything so hard that the only way to fix things is to revert to the beginning of M41. Rinse, repeat.”“What a dick.”“Yup. But luckily by using this rift we give ourselves (and the rest of the galaxy) a bit of time to try and fix things.” After a moment she adds in a sneer, “Mostly for Abaddon to get his shit together but I suppose that’s never going to happen either.”You find yourself submerging completely into the bloodbath as you try and pretend like any of that made any sense whatsoever. Someone like a certain Tyranid named Sytili.“On second thought, let’s send him to Sytili.”Ignitrix nods and focuses on working her spells while you slip back into the bath. You feel a telltale prickle as the privacy field lowers and your connection to the Warp is restored. “You have a few minutes,” she says. “If you want to warn Sytili ahead of time.”“Hrm…” you rub your chin in thought. As you do you fish around for your data slate. You eventually find it at the bottom of the bloodbath. Good thing it’s blood-proof. Shortly thereafter you ring up Sytili.“Ah yessss,” she hisses. “Cinder. What can I do for you?”You glance over at Ignitrix. She nods. “I’m sending you a ‘present’ of sorts, Sytili. Remember that Astropath that flew the coop?” “Indeed. Ssssshall I make sssure he doesn’t do it again?”“You’ve got it. Make it as slow and as painful as you can.”“Assss you wissshh. Alssso tell Ignitrix I sssaid ‘hi.”The Lady of Change finishes her ritual with a sigh. “Hi to you too, Sytili. The only thing of note besides her bed is an altar (currently adorned with the symbol of Chaos Undivided) and a Imperial propaganda poster featuring the God Emperor. You point to the poster first. You suspect you know why it’s there but you just want to make sure. “Am I to assume that’s here because it serves as a reminder?”Alia nods, shuffling over to sit on the corner of her bed. “Indeed. It’s a reminder of the life I once had and of the many who are still blinded by their faith.”“Why not just stick with the altar then?”She considers this for a moment before answering, “It may seem strange to an outsider but I do not entirely regret my time with the Sororitas Cult. I am no longer pursuing the Emperor’s light but I still acknowledge the importance placed upon it. From each side.”It’s a fair answer. After nodding you say, “I see. In that case, what can you tell me of your fellow acolytes. I already know that some, like you, have embraced Chaos, while others have scorned it. It’s the latter I’m hoping to get a better grasp of.”Alia tilts her head to the side in thought. “I was once Repentia. This much is true. But even the height of my former faith pales in comparison to the zeal Sonja possesses. Short of being placed face to face with the so-called “Saint” she reveres she will never leave the Light.”“Ah, yes. The whole ‘your Order is based on a lie’ thing. Ignitrix told me about that. I understand it played a part in corrupting most everyone?”“Indeed. But not Sonja. Even when faced with an overwhelming mountain of evidence that her entire life was a lie she remained faithful. In a way I’m envious. Perhaps that is shameful to admit being one as corrupted as I, but there it is.”> (cont)

While you mull that over, you ask Alia, “So what do you plan on doing next? Other than serving in this fleet?”Her face wrinkles slightly as she frowns. “To be honest I am unsure. If I do not perish in the conflicts to come I suppose I shall retire to a far flung world outside of the grasp of the Imperium. There I thought I might offer sanctuary of a sorts to those fleeing other Empires.”“A stance of semi-neutrality then? Hm. I suppose I can respect that. I don’t approve of it, of course, but I can respect it all the same.”Alia nods thoughtfully. “Really that is all I can ask for. With so many conflicting ideals, wishes, dreams, and so forth in this fleet there are bound to be times when not everyone agrees or understands. I suppose I can attempt to serve that role, that of the mediator, whenever I’m not on the battlefield.”“That’s good thinking,” you admit. “Well that’s all I have for now. Carry on as you were.”She stands and bows. “Ma’am.”Before you leave, though, you state, “And if you need anything, run it by Ignitrix. What can I do for you?”“I thought I’d check and see if the Captain of my original flagship needed anything. And for you to perhaps deal with a problem you have aboard at the moment.”You hear him hum in thought for a bit, then he replies, “Well I mean I’ve always wanted a bigger boat but that’s not the sort of thing you can just make appear. So I shall settle for one of those daemonic weapons Ignitrix brought back.”It’s true, Ignitrix DID recover about fifteen or so such artifacts from her time on Oashadus if her tale is true. If you recall correctly, they’re being held by Wormbag at the moment. “If you can wrestle one away from Wormbag then by all means, you will have earned it.”“I suppose that is fair. Now what is the problem you needed me to deal with?”You pause along the corridor as a pair of servitors walks by. “Supposedly there’s two psykers down wherever Ignitrix is keeping her ‘acolytes.’ They should either be re-educated or removed before they become a problem.”“I think I have just the chainsword for the job. >>38346714Well, you’ve put it off long enough. Or maybe you haven’t? Curse time for being so confusing. Either way you go to collect Ignitrix. From there the two of you grab a shuttle and start to take it down towards the planet of Abandoned Hope. As with the larger vessels, your sensors yield absolutely zero useful information about the sphere hanging in space before you. You guess it’s a good thing you have Ignitrix with you to answer questions.“So… Is it actually a planet?” you ask. “Because last I checked most planets don’t have a Warp Storm at their core.”Ignitrix turns away from the controls, letting the autopilot do its job. “Technically yes, it is a planet. The difference here is that it’s been hollowed out. The only thing below the crust is a single research station and the rift itself.”“And I’m guessing the crust is special too.”She nods. “You’ve got it. Same kind of stuff the Cadian Pylons are made out of.” After seeing you stare blankly for a moment, she adds, “Necrons. I’m saying that a Dynasty of Necrons is responsible.”“So why isn’t the Imperium and/or the Inquisition all over this? Are WE going to be okay?”The Lady of Change shrugs. “Originally the planet was made off limits by the Ordo Chronos. All they had to do was get the High Lords of Terra to believe there was something so unspeakable buried there to have the entire planet stricken from record. Even just pulling the planet up normally, like in a Library, alerts the Inquisition. Which then leads to Ordo Hereticus getting involved and the person in question disappearing.”“The more you tell me about this Ordo the more I’m starting to realize it’s just a Tzeentchean cult in disguise,” you propose. > (cont)
>>38347299“You’re not wrong,” Ignitrix admits. “As for your worry about the Necronic technology, it won’t be an issue until after we use the rift.”“What happens then?” you ask.She turns back to the controls before answering, “Then we hope I remember how to properly make a portal that doesn’t use the Immaterium as a medium.”Three hours of flight time later sees your shuttle approaching what appears to be a giant crater in the otherwise bland, asphalt-colored surface of the planet. After cresting the edge Ignitrix takes you right to the center of the depression and has the shuttle start to descend. Just as you prepare for the bump that signifies a landing, the shuttle passes right through the ground as if it wasn’t there.“Holograms?” you ask.“Naturally,” replies Ignitrix. “Combined with forcefields and Chronos access codes and nothing gets in or out. And there’s the rift below us.”You follow her pointing to see a massive maw of swirling blue and green energy. At first you think Ignitrix intends to fly the shuttle right into it. But then you notice she’s navigating you to a small, floating outpost somehow kept just at the edge of the abyss. Once there you cycle through into the small station. It’s relatively plain - old bookshelves line the walls of an otherwise large room. Before the single window, facing the rift, is a series of three desks with Ordo Chronos branding."I'll be a few minutes," calls Ignitrix. "Try not to touch anything!"> Take a look around> Wait patiently for Ignitrix to do… whatever.

Hm. Well in the interest of keeping things active and moving (plus the fact I have to be up in like 4 hours) we'll start the actual Into-the-past and subsequent WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT next session. Not the most exciting session we've had but hopefully informative nonetheless.Next session Sunday @ 3pm or next Tuesday at 8pm.Make sure to sage. Also this came up over the week.
>>38347508thanks for running
>>38347508>filename>like you let her do anything fun
>>38347508>Not the most exciting session we've had but hopefully informative nonetheless.I kinda skipped over all the expositiony bits to get to what Cinder thinks is happening so as to act as she would.
So, once we do the thing with the Daemon Prince, can Cinder finally take the lead on what they should do instead of being led by the nose by her two friends?
>>38348431Isn't this the first time she's actually been "made" to do something? She chose to do everything else because reasons. And really does it matter? She got fights out of them either way.
>>38348508I just feel pretty ticked off that the bird has accounted for our every move and steered us to where we are now. I kinda want to punt it out the airlock for a bit, and say "JUST AS PLANNED, EH?"
>>38348542Well first off that wouldn't do anything, even if you did it mid-jump. She's a daemon and would just kind float there like "is this it?"Second, the whole reason she told us her true name was so that we'd trust her and realize that she wasn't out to actively screw us over. Or so I'd like to think anyways. Third... that's what Tzeentch does. Ain't it a bitch? Now you understand why Khorne gets angry at the Bird but also works with him on occasion.
>>38348565I'm also mad that this time travel mumbo jumbo is the reason why Iggy's adventures are so much better and nice and detailed despite the fact that this is Khornette Quest, and feels like the quest is based around her almost. Meanwhile, people who like Acerea don't get anything worthwhile to "play through" (oh yeah, nice "game session" ELH. Can't figure out how to use pastebin?) besides moments bonding and angst. So many times he's done cool things for Ignitrix like put certain things up for vote, like, "Hey, which part of her past do you want to play through?" and "Hey, I know we were in Acerea's garden last session and about to talk to her, but HERE'S A SPACE HULK AND WE'RE ON AN SUDDEN ADVENTURE AND AAAAAAH"Acerea doesn't get anything like that, she gets afterthoughts and epilogues to playthrough rather than anything that can be called exciting. No, he saves it all up for his favorite character. The one that he forces upon us rather than the one he feels was forced upon him through circumstance. After all, we got her through a weird roll, and her missions and backstory came from anon speculation. She wasn't like the other character he had been planning since the start.Sometimes it isn't even up for vote on whether we want the LoC quest, he'll just up and go, "We're doing that next week." She wasn't even in the same star system as us, what reason to care about her exploits and what reason to go into detail about them when we're not around? It's fucking Khornette Quest. It should be focused on Cinder and whoever happens to be in her vicinity. Don't even get me started on when you did the sidequest starring their pet tyranid when we could've been conquering the city through dairy farming. Also, that water planet bullshit, that was so irrelevant to our invasion!tl;dr ELH can't imagine fun things to do outside of what he's already thought up and planned out. He should probably stop doing sidequests. We're here to play as a numskull out for skulls.
>>38348829>>38348896So I think it's about time I addressed this. I've let it sit long enough. And don't think deleting your post is going to make it go away. First off: I appreciate the fact you're willing to voice criticism. Not many do. I also find it semi-flattering that you've gone out of your way to get commissions of Acerea done. Every QM likes to see people make/commission OC based on their characters. I also understand that some people are going to naturally gravitate towards certain characters. But it's time for you, and you alone, to step back and realize how borderline-stalkerish (and frankly sociopathic) your behavior is getting. Any OC ANYONE makes for Acerea you find and comment on within hours if not minutes. Every time she's not in the spotlight you go on these exact same kind of rants either here, Twitter, ask.fm, email, and so on. It's gotten to the point where your constant pressure has made it so I don't want to touch Acerea ever again.Yes you read that right: You've made it so I don't want to ever write so much as one more line of dialogue with her. You and you alone Barabba. I once had arcs for her outside of the Eldar thing. Hell that WAS going to be her sidequest. But guess what? You happened. And as damning as it is to admit, 99.9% of the fluff, backstory, and direction is made up within 30 minutes of a vote. It just so happens that I remember enough of my own verbal diarrhea to make sure everything adds up. The only thing I've ever truly planned is the absolute end of the quest and two scenes along the way. Nothing else. I write the topics and characters I find fun based on user input. It so happens I write Ignitrix a lot because she's a natural foil to Cinder. She's the voice of reason where otherwise Cinder's off punching things to death because they're there. Any other sidequests (Sytili) are me testing the waters.TLDR: Calm the fuck down faggot. I ain't gunna write your waifu 24/7
>>38348938Thanks for finally responding to my concerns. I was worried that you weren't ever going to. Your silence was so damning it made me feel as if you had shunned any criticisms of mine.To be honest, I don't really like Acerea, but I feel the reason for that is that we haven't had a fair shake with her yet. I'm sorry that we won't ever get that now.
>>38348938And what are you talking about, writing her 24/7? This is Khornette Quest, y'know. I just think it'd be cool if we got to play through the parts where she actually gets to do cool things like spreading disease across a planet.
>>38348938Why have you let this sit though? What's with the silence? Couldn't you have told me everything would be alright earlier? My rudeness and persistence have soured your outlook on something. This wouldn't have happened if you had made the effort to respond earlier and tell me where I was wrong and where you were right! Instead, you gave nothing but silence, and now you give a spurning. I just wanted to have a conversation, y'know? Not this.
>>38348938I did ask you those things on the places you gave us to contact you with as well, especially the after-quest Q&A sessions. I gave you the chance to confront me on those on multiple occasions and tell me I was wrong and that you had things well in control.Could you please start responding to people's criticism when it springs up before it starts festering like an open wound?
Cripes dude. You're literally proving yourself to be the very autist he's pinned you as. If you were my player IRL you'd be out on your ass no questions asked. What makes this worse is instead of saging and letting this thread drop off the board like he's asked everyone to you're continually bumping it. And based on what he's said and what I remember you're probably going to do so until it hits sage limit. So do us all a favor and contain your autism before either a a mod/janitor gets involved or the QM removes the character entirely. If you have a grievance go address it in private. But no one OWES you a reply.
>>38349224No one owes me a reply, they owe themselves a reply. If you don't give yourself the chance to shut someone else up and hold your peace, your peace will sour. Peace isn't something won with inaction, you gotta fight for it, or pacify whatever's wrong.
I had no idea this faggotry was about. I hope we can get some acerea centric shenanigans in regardless.
>>38349174>>38349090>>38348996>>38348978Damn dude, calm the fuck down. No one gives a shit about your waifu.
>>38348938>No more ara ara threadsOh. That's really disappointing, I've been looking forward to that for a while, even with that one guy bitching far too much. If he's been as spastic as you say, I guess I can't really blame you for not wanting to run one though.Still, I wish you had actually said something sooner, don't really understand why you waited so long.
>>38348938I somehow had a hunch, since I was there for the entire Slaanesh debacle as well. Anyway, thanks for running, man. For "lack of action" this one was pretty damn solid and interesting. I daresay it kept me up all night with "Hey, this is awesome!". Good thing I have Fridays off :D
>>38350062It's the same "damned if you do, damned if you don't" problem all QMs, DMs, and really any public face has to deal with. You either ignore the problem and hope it blows over or you address it and proceed to have said problem shitpost about "That GM" all over /tg/. What makes it worse is that in this case the hints were all there. You need only look at the archives and publicly available tweets/likes/etc to know this pattern of behavior started after the Acerea Oneshot concluded. The QM addressed several concerns then and pretty much said verbatim "I just don't like writing her, sorry."And yet because the power of the waifu is too strong here we are again some 4 months later having the same conversation again. Though this time the QM's made it clear on no-uncertain terms that he's done dealing with it. Personally I'm like you - I'm bummed Acerea's getting fucked over because of one guy. But is it really fair of us to ask the QM to put up with that level of harassment? I know this is 4chan but come on.
