> Previously, on Mage: the Awakening Quest! You left Elizabeth and Jemma to deal with Heimdall while you left to find Sarah and Diana, who were dealing with more of Tsukuyomi's allies. After watching Sarah engage (and win) a Space Mage battle, you helped distract Diana's opponent long enough for her to win her Matter Mage duel. After checking in on Liz and Jemma (who eventually defeated Heimdall) you resisted the attempts of Tsukuyomi's Mind Mage in trying to get you and the others to kill each other. Sarah was able to locate and you interrogated him, finding the location of the Profane Urim in the process. Upon reaching the location, you found Tsukuyomi there, looking to do a bit of banter before engaging in combat.Choosing to have your actions speak for you, Michael used some of his mana and fed it to the machine gun spirit, letting it turn into a chain gun for a blitzkreig of bullets to assault her with. Unfortunately, she fended off the majority of the bullets, choosing to merge with the Urim to gain access to more of the Exarch's powers. You five attempted to stop her, but she wasn't stalled in her plan, and used her newfound power to effortlessly toss you out of a window.Plummeting to the ground, you were barely able to have a spirit show up and save you from the fall. Realizing you have one more ace left to pull, you reach out and call upon the spirit of Bruce Lee for aid, and after paying a hefty Mana tithe, he agreed to come to your aid. You quickly returned to the scene of the battle, and the combined attacks of your spirit-infused fists and Lee's martial prowess you succeeded in destroying the Urim, subjecting all inside to an explosion of white light.> And now, back to the action!
It takes a moment for your eyes to re-focus, as your body refuses to get up from the soft, warm, and sinking feeling of lying on something comfortable. 'But... the carpet shouldn't be this soft,' you think, as your eyes stare up at the drapes of a veil that surrounds a four-poster bed."Wait..." You slowly sit up, left arm still limp, and look around, mind racing to remember just how similar this bed looks to another four-poster bed you've seen. Sterile white walls and floor, more four-poster beds around, all looking disheveled and recently slept in... "I'm back.""Yes, you are." Your head snaps to the right, seeing a hooded figure sitting beside your bed as they close a large, thick, leather-bound book. "I must say," this person says, voice sounding slightly muffled and monotone, as though multiple people are speaking all at once, "you have had a rather interesting life since you began walking down this Path."> Who are you?> Where are the others?> Why am I back here?> Other

Michael is currently sitting on 10 exp. He has 1 Mana remaining, and the spirits he has in his brass knuckles are mostly exhausted, the Lightning spirit is drained after using it's juice in various fights. The resolve-boosting one can still boost your own personal resolve, but is pretty tired. The machine gun spirit was released after using it last quest, and the ailment-curing one still is full juice.Michael currently has 3 Lethal damage inflicted upon him, and his left arm is limp and near-impossible to move from the shoulder down.

>>38335152> Where are the others? Are they okay?!
"Who are you," you say to the person, shifting slightly to get out of the bed."Why, I'm hurt, Michael," they lift the veil aside, letting Michael get up onto his feet. "You don't recognize my voice?" The person coughs for a moment, stepping back. "Or do you prefer this," speaking in a robotic, monotone voice that sounds exactly like..."The Samaritan Mage," you say aloud, getting back on your feet. Everything in here is exactly the same as you remember it; the beds, the stark white walls, even the table with the book and pen at the end of the room. But the beds all look empty. "Where are the others?""They are at their own Towers, conversing with some allies of mine," the person says, shifting their voice back to the monotone yet echoing crowd. "I must say, I wasn't expecting you to destroy the Profane Urim, but that certainly does lead to some new possibilities for Mages and potential Mages."> Why are you so interested in me?> What possibilities?> Why didn't you help us with Tsukuyomi?> Other

>>38335734>> Why are you so interested in me?
Rolled 1 (1d2)Rolling to see what gets asked first. 1 for Possibilities, 2 for Why me?
Sorry, this is taking a while to write out.
>>38336834it cool i just got here myself gave me time to catch up.
"What sorts of possibilities?"At that, the Mage simply grins a bit. "I'll show you." They motion to one of the walls, and a portion of it recedes inward before sliding to the left, revealing a set of stairs. "If you would?"You shrug before groaning in pain, as your left shoulder attempts (and fails) to do the motion, and walk up the stairs. "And why so interested in me?""For a long time now, my allies and I have been looking for ways to stop an impending apocolypse. Not like the one you and Liz did in stopping the Acamoth from opening an Abyssal portal. One that is far more subtle and more damning than the end of life on Earth.""What could be worse than all life on Earth dying out?""The end of all things related to the supernatural. Think about it; for as misguided and dangerous as vampires, werewolves, Mages, spirits, Demons, Changelings, Primordials, Hunters, and any other one I am forgetting about, they do help keep the rest of humanity from killing itself, and the Abyssal creatures from overwhelming the Material World.""That doesn't explain why you're interested in me."Samaritan shakes their head in disapproval. "You don't get it, Michael. Your Tower... It means that someone or something out there is giving us a chance to fight back against that possibility. The Exarchs only care about maintaining their control over the Supernal Realm, not knowing that one day even they will fall. But if we find more Towers, more Mages can Awaken, and new possibilities and options will be made available to us. And hopefully, one day, we will be able to stop that possibility from happening."> [1/2]
> [2/2]You reach the top of the stairs, a cold wind whipping about the Tower as you look out all around you. The swirling colors around mask a bit of your field of vision, but even this high up you can see five other Towers in the distance, all looking taller and older than yours, which you aren't even sure is possible. "And those Towers are the ones most Mages normally awaken to?""Indeed." The Tower beneath you begins to shake, and in the distance you see the others rumble and shake as well."What's happening?""Look." The Mage points out towards the swirling black lands on the horizon, as though the land itself was fighting to break its way into the Towers. Suddenly, points of light burst out from the Abyss, as structures arise from it, slowly moving their ways to the shore, as though Godzilla is about to make landfall on Tokyo. >>38336974> Other Paths... You mean Liz was right?> Were those Towers always there?> Why would the Exarchs hide more Paths?>>38337010You awaken to a tower, you don't pick it, it just happens. As a player you do, but to the character they suddenly saw some crazy shit and put their name on a tower they have no idea about except they realize they've just experienced something extraordinarily profound.
"Were those Towers always there?""Oh yes... Not many people could Awaken to them, as just like your Tower they were hidden in the Abyss, corrupted and fallen to disrepair by the Exarchs and their scheming ways. But with the Urim's destruction it weakened their grasp over certain things, one of them being how they Obfuscate things."The rumbling grows stronger and louder as the Towers return to a standing position on grounds similar to the one yours currently sits upon, as each of them has a spark of light erupt from their tops, as the other, taller 5 Towers also shine out, as a pillar of light erupts forth behind yours, blowing away snow and frost."Why did the Exarchs hide these Towers then?""More Mages mean ones that they cannot have any control over, and eventually one or some may emerge that overthrow them. But they can't mask all the Towers, so they picked the fewest number Towers needed to still represent the 10 Schools of Arcanum."You try and count the Towers as they slowly settle into their spots on the land, but some are fairly small (even compared to your own) and the lights are blending together. "So, was Liz right? Are there 45 Paths?""The Paths are whatever you imagine them to be," Samaritan replies, still looking out towards the Abyss. "The Towers are just a way for people who Awaken to have a chance at crossing the Abyss unscathed. But, I'm afraid our time is drawing to a close." At that, the Mage turns to you and smiles, and you swear that the bandages around their eyes is growing damp. "What will you do, now that the other Towers are revealed?""Make sure the Exarchs don't hide them again, keep their Lights burning for people who Awaken so they don't become lost in the Abyss.""One final question," you say, turning towards them, looking at them dead on. The Mage is a little shorter than you, and other than possessing longer hair you aren't certain if they are male or female. The multitude of voices all speaking in a monotone certainly isn't helping discern anything either. "Who are you, really?"At that, the Mage merely smiles. "A friend, Michael. One that you haven't met... At least, not yet.""What? What does that-"You blink, and your vision of the Tower and Samaritan vanishes, instead all you see is the ceiling tiles of an office, as your body aches in pain, ass stinging as though you were thrown to the ground."<Are you ok,>" Lee says, still in his violet and red veil, hand outstretched to help you off the ground."<Ugh... My everything hurts,>" you reply, grabbing his hand with your one working arm, as he helps you to your feet. "<Guess that means I'm still alive.>" Looking around you see the charred remains of what you suspect is Tsukuyomi about 10 feet from you, a gaping hole in her chest where the Urim was lodged in. To your right the others all are slowly moving, recovering from the blast. "<You ok?>""<Yes, the blast only disoriented me. You slowly head over and help get the others to their feet, as Liz and Jemma work on healing the injuries you, Sarah, and Diana sustained from Tsukuyomi's lightning attacks. It takes a moment for the others to recognize who Lee is, but when they do, most hold their mouths agape, Jemma even muttering, "Holy shit," upon realizing it."Thank you," Liz says, offering a hand of thanks to Lee. "For helping us stop this rogue Mage."He nods his head in approval, shaking her hand briefly. "You are welcome. Now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to return to my journeys." He reapplies his veil before grabbing onto Tony's outstretched leg just outside the window, and together the two descend back through your portal to the Shadow World before you close it back up."Come on," you say to the others. "Lets get out of here before the Sleepers show up."> [1/2]
> [2/2]"You hear about this," Jospeh says to you as you enter his office the next day, lifting the local paper to your eyes. "Either terrorists trashed the Sears Tower or this is some government coverup man," he tosses it your way as you read the headline: "Fire Destroys 5 Floors of Sears Tower.""Maybe it was an actual fire," you reply to him, flipping the paper over. "At least no one was hurt." Your eyes glance over a blurb about a series of earthquakes occuring throughout the world. No major destruction, but the blurb makes it sound like for a few moments yesterday the entire Earth shook, as though the ground was restless. Handing the paper back to him, you also give him the cup of coffee he asked for to begin with. "Anything else for today, boss?""Nah, thanks for coming in and helping out with the Trimonti bullshit," he says, taking the cup and paper from your hands. >>38341111Thanks a lot for running this. It's one of very few quests that actually had an end and didn't just die when the QM got bored, so thanks for finishing it, as well.
>>38341111it was fun thanks for doing it.
>>38341170I'm pretty sure I'd said it in the ask.fm page or one of the Q&A's that I'd make sure to end the quest and resolve as many plot points as possible beforehand, and not just drop it suddenly.>>38341185You're welcome, I hope you enjoyed it.
>>38341111I enjoyed this quest while it lasted. Also, nice quads. So, just how much derailment did we end up doing compared to your original plot?
>>38341111So when the Urim was destroyed it catapulted every awakened in the vicinity over the abyss and into the supernal realms again?Normally it takes becoming an archmaster to go back there but it has been implied that people have found ways to "cheat" and get a cheap ascension so this kind of thing shouldn't be impossible either . Also, with all those new towers is the world set for a kind of supernal revival where both mages and other entities become more common?
>>38341111you gave Michel a little back story in the side quest when he went to the old neighborhood did you want to give more but were unable to.
>>38341271A fair bit, actually. For Arc 2 I had originally decided that saving Sarah was a near impossibility (even if you banished the Acamoth she was going to have 0 Wisdom,) but upon reviewing exactly what happened to her (from a rules standpoint) and how having her True Name was such a large bonus, I decided that her being barely sane (at 1 Wisdom) and her holding onto some wild fantasy of being saved was better than her still being bat-shit crazy even if you banished the Acamoth.>>38341277Normally, the Urim getting blown up would've just vaporized you guys (because it's the Exarch's rage at you destroying one of the few things they actually made for their followers to use), but the Samaritan stepped in to just catapult you guys to the Supernal Realm for a few minutes instead.
>>38341362Yes.As I'd envisioned it, Michael grew up in a gang-infested neighborhood and was being "encouraged" to join one of them. His parents thought that teaching him discipline and ways to defend himself was the only way to keep him out of a gang.He wanted to learn martial arts (growing up watching Bruce Lee does that to a kid) but they couldn't afford it, but boxing lessons were something they could swing. So they enrolled him in that, he took to it like a duck to water and was able to beat the gangbangers to the point of them not wanting him anymore (he broke a guy's hand while he threatened him with a gun, and turned the weapon on the gangbanger). His hatred of guns stems from the violence he saw (a fair bit of drive-bys and similar threats being issued at gunpoint) as a kid.
>>38341271In Arc 1 I had planned on you actually having to fight Elizabeth while Chrom tried to exert her full powers on you.Arc 3 (the Tsukuyomi stuff) I'd just planned on it being vampires only and you guys just wrecking their shit, but decided that would be a shitty way to end the quest. Also, rolling something like 8 successes on 6 die to figure out why the vampires were buying the land was something I hadn't planned on.
thanks for running, dude. This was a really awesome quest. Planning on running anything else in the future?
>>38341619Honestly, not sure. This is more time-consuming than I thought it would be. Plus the interest in the quest seemed to drop off the moment I said I wasn't going to do more smut (if voting on sup/tg/ is any indication). If I did, I'd probably do another one in the world I built here, with players able to pick any two Arcanum at character creation.
>>38341467damn that could have been an interesting story arcMicheal has to deal with his past coming back to fuck with him.
>>38341708It was also irregular questing times. Players like consistency, so they can schedule it in reliably (I could still make it most of the time but hey, NEETs don't gotta worry about schedules). Though /tg/ being /tg/ it always wants more smut. Can't get enough of it it seems. Sad, I like me good storylines and characters just as much as I like to see them get lewd. Good characters getting lewd for good, logical reasons in the middle of a good story, we don't see much of that sadly.
>>38341935Part of the irregular times was because I lost a fair bit of drive for wanting to run it, but I forced myself to complete it for those who stuck around for so long.Plus real life is being very unkind to me right now (unemployed, struggling to keep a roof over my head, etc.) and it's very difficult to set aside the time for things like this when I have much more pressing concerns. And in a general sense Michael and Liz would engage in sexy times whenever time permitted them to do so (by that, I mean Liz not using Time magic to slow the passage of time to allow for the sexy times). Some other things I also wanted to do:- The house Liz was in when she became an Archmaster? It was the house she Awoke in, and I wanted a side quest for her to tell us how she Awoke.- Michael having to deal with a supernatural problem (similar to the vampire land grab) by using his civil service cover an beating them in the courtroom.- Helping Sarah regain her sanity by having her help the spirits (and not just threatening them to do her bidding).- Having one of the more primal/powerful spirits (think something along the lines of Santa Claus) needing help from you and the others due to some Rogue Mage trying to throw down.
>>38341708I don't think it was the lack of smut that caused the drop in players. Most things that were running around Christmas seem to have taken a big hit to their ppayerbase. People go on vacation, get caught up in things IRL, and forget about or lose interest in quests sometimes. Anyway, thanks for running and for providing an actual endings. I'd have liked to know a bit more about what became of everyone but at least they're all alive.
>>38342623Jemma: Once Sarah becomes more stable (and she could trust her sister to not blow shit up) she returned to her job, and eventually became a Captain of her own precinct, with a bit of renown that she would deal with some of the more "unique" cases that came across her desk (ie., ones that involved the supernatural in some fashion).Sarah: Slowly over time is able to regain the rest of her sanity, is able to heal the damage done to her pleasure centers, and is looking for someone that she can fall in love with.Diana: Becomes one of the most well-known Powersmiths in the world, with her 'magnus opum' being making an actual mecha that runs on technology (so as to not cause Disbelief from every Sleeper seeing it).Garen: Eventually becomes an Archmaster and gains immortality through Life magic, and uses his magic for helping research new treatments and cures for various diseases (only using his magic for terminal illnesses).Anyone else I'm forgetting?
>>38342834Michael and Liz?
>>38342995Michael and Liz: Michael eventually becomes a lawyer proper, one who both prosecutes criminals and defends though he believes are innocent, and gets a pretty good overall record of wins (on both sides of the courtroom).Liz eventually forms her own political group, the sole purpose being to just help those who recently Awaken learn their newfound abilities and to try and have them use it for good. They eventually do have kids - a boy first, girl second - and the kids actually Awaken at a young age. The girl eventually goes on to become the Samaritan, the boy being one of the allies she mentioned (he actually talks to Liz).Together, the four engage in several adventures to ensure that the Fallen Realm remains relatively safe/stable from supernatural forces. Michael eventually becomes an Archmaster of Spirit, Forces, Prime, and Life. Liz gains Archmastery of Life, Fate, and Mind to go along with her Archmastery of Time.
>>38343458Thanks for the little epilogues OP. It's nice to know things turn out pretty well for everyone. And thanks again for running. Hope to see more from you some day.
>>38343458He archmaster's his inferior arcanum? Damn, that takes dedication. Still, it was never said to be impossible, just really friggin' hard. What happens to the other splats? Do they begin to become more common as time goes on? They were edging towards extinction if things didn't change, did we help to reverse the trend? 2 archmasters working in tandem as well, did/are they going for any big imperial rites? Archmasters can literally rewrite reality, hell, if they pull it off they can even create new splats, watchtowers, even lift the sleeper's curse. Hard to resist the urge to literally play god with reality and even become one by fully ascending to the supernal.Hope to see more out of ya in the future. I found this to be rather enjoyable. And I friggin' love nWoD anyway. So many things you can do with it all there.
>>38335124>>38335489Likewise. Had to miss the last few due to exams, but oh well - at least I was there for most of it.
>>38343649He masters Spirit and Forces first, then goes to one of the new Towers to master Life and Prime. The earthquake rumbling thing I mentioned in the story was the Fallen Realm having a bunch of new Hallows and leylines be awoken/revealed with the Towers being 're-discovered.'Michael and Liz only use their Archmaster powers for 1 Imperial Rite: That one day, the Abyss will close. Everything else they do is to maintain status quo or work towards closing the Abyss.
>>38343991To close the abyss would functionally be the same as lifting the sleeper curse. After all, without the abyss, how can there be paradox?Still, given Liz's background as a former member of the Free Council, this makes total sense. Free Council wants people to not trigger paradox upon witnessing vulgar magic outright. Their book even says "The day we can throw a fireball in Time's Square and everyone simply think we've pulled a clever trick, we will have won the first major battle in the war for reality" (i.e. when Vulgar magic done in front of millions merely triggers disbelief instead of calling in a horde of Acamoths to devour the dumbass who tried that) or something along those lines.Take away the source of paradox and you land that goal sideways. More than one way to get something done, that's just the rather more direct and absolute way of achieving that goal.
>>38344171Their reasoning for not lifting the Sleeper curse is that some people are not mentally ready to possess such power (that, and having psychopaths and sociopaths and terrorists suddenly gaining magic sounds like a bad idea). But given enough time and effort, 99.99999% of those people will be ready for it.
>>38344299This post is me, lost my trip for a moment.
>>38344299Power? What power? Seeing magic is not the same as actually performing it. Sleepwalkers can't do magic, they just don't recoil into the mindset of "NO! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!! THIS CANNOT BE!!!!!!" upon seeing it. Hell, look at what we're doing right now. We have made, in a technical sense, more progress in the past 200 years than we have in the 2000 years prior. Look at how we measure history. At first, it was eons. Then it became millennia. Then, around the dark ages, we measured it in centuries. After the Industrial Revolution it became decades. Now we're almost to the point of measuring it on a year to year basis. History is accelerating, why we know not but the trend is obvious. We're on an exponential curve. It'll either end in doom or in glory.Try handing a caveman a cellphone. Dumb bastard would probably worship it as a god! The person who gave it to him, an avatar of that god. Did he leverage it for base desires or try to guide them towards higher principles. The former invites doom, the latter invites the ultimate happy end...
>>38344490Still, would you want someone like Hitler or Stalin or Norman Bates getting magic powers?
Oh yeah, what becomes of the kid from the airplane?
>>38345102He becomes an Archmaster of Forces and Life with Spirit 5 and becomes your team's equivalent of the Oracle from DC comics.
>>38345080They'd face the consequences as they ought to. And even they would face the powers that be. Hitler would quiver in his boots in regards to his "final solution" if he knew there was a Jewish High Blood Potency Vampire out to get him for his BS or something like that.Like you said, the supernaturals have done a bang up job of keeping everyone from a MAD style conflict from going down. Is it nice, pretty, and happy? No. But they have kept us all from jumping off the apocalyptic cliff. The reason the "War of All Against All" hasn't happened is because all get the scale of the game. No sane person bets the farm on anything less than a "Full House" involving Aces and Face Cards eh?
Thanks for running! Hope to see more from you soon and that life gets better.
>>38345080Thanks for running. I literally just got caught up this weekend and slept through this thread, but it's a good quest that shows that running with established systems is not only possible but doable.

>>38345396I wouldn't "bet the farm" unless I knew I had a Royal Flush, wasn't playing a stacked deck, and expected my opponent to take it like a man and not shoot me the moment they saw my hand. Some other things I forgot to mention:The original 5 Towers do lose some people who would've Awoken to them, but overall the number of Mages that do Awaken does increase dramatically, as there are more Lights in the Supernal Realm to help guide them home.Personally I feel the Watchtower monicker is wrong; they're more like Lighthouses, guiding lost Awakened souls through the horrors of the Abyss and onto the shores of the Supernal Realm. The Samaritan Mage is an Archmaster of Time and Life, and has 5 Dots in every other Arcanum. To say that she is one of the more feared Archmasters is an understatement. Also, she was trained by Bruce Lee.Michael and Liz's boy didn't take to Magic as well as his parents or sister, but he becomes an Archmaster of Prime and Mind.Jemma does eventually get married (to another woman), and did eventually have a threesome with Michael and Liz (she wanted a kid, Michael offered to be the one to donate the sperm, Liz helped to make sure she got pregnant, but they didn't want to just Magic everything, so they had sex and Liz just helped make sure the egg was fertilized).
