How much of Nechronica's been translated?
I remember there was a pdf wit some of the rules, bot sure about how much, though.TLwiki has some more, I think, but again, last time it was updated was around september 2013.Maybe someone around here knows more.
>>37493776Holy fuck, two misspellings in the first line. I shouldn't post when I'm half-sleep.
>>37493519What is Nechronica?
>>37494873Not op, but from what I understand, its like an animu version of Promethean, the Created.
>>37493800>half-sleepYeah, that's a good idea.
>>37494959Well, that doesn't sound half bad. I would read about it.
>>37494873http://tlwiki.org/index.php?title=NechronicaIt's a roleplay-heavy system where you make little zombie girls surviving in a post apocalyptic zombie worldPush the magical realm aside and it can actually be fun
>>37495096Huh. How magical realm we talking? Just loli zombies? Or heavy yuri stuff with undead girls/necrophilia?
>>37494873DMPC Necromancers create flesh golems (which frequently look like lolis) and command them to go on adventures in the shattered hellhole that is Earth. I think there was one game where the GM/Necromancer tasked the party with finding a way to resurrect the human race.
>>37495116Wouldnt it depend on your group?
>>37495237I mean, if someone says a setting is Magical Realm-y, I can't always change the setting or rules to remove that or downplay it. FATAL is overall hard to not be magical realmy about when the character sheet includes excruciatingly detailed information about genitalia and the volume of body cavities.
>>37495310There's nothing of that sort. The "Magical Realm" accusations are based less on the game rules and more on the conclusion to the sample mini-campaign, which manages to be Magical Realm as FUCK without involving anything actually sexual. So, yeah, ignore the last episode of the sample campaign and proceed to enjoy madness, violence, and bitchin' cyborg zombie girls.
The game is fairly rules light, so it's easy to modify some of the mechanics. The parts for hp system is interesting and makes creating PCs and enemies simple. The only thing in the rules that you could really make a case for being magical realmy is the fetter system and dealing with that is as simple as changing an entry or two.
>>37495604Holy shit what the fuckI never thought of that being something that would come up? I mean, what kind of Necromancer would install a womb upgrade into their "perfect" creation? Eugh. And then they both fertilize themselves and then try to recreate the human race with themselves? I mean, one is fucking eleven!
>>37495771The dude behind Nechronica is the same dude who created Zettai Reido, which is so magical realm it makes FATAL look prudish. That particular part is not in the game rules, so you can just disregard it and stick to horror and loss and a surprisingly great combat system that can sometimes turn a single attack into a massive bidding war of once-per-round abilities on both sides. (Rounds in Nechronica often involve four or five attacks per character; they're notably longer than in Standard Fantasy RPG.)
>>37495914Oh right, that game where if you aren't a futa demon you're almost always losing combat because you get dominated and raped/enslaved by the magical charms of the cock demons.
Can someone give a quick rundown on the various classes and what they can do? Do you double stack like say an Alice Thanatos or something like that? How does it work?
>>37496394You pick a position and 2 classes. You can take the same class twice which gives you access to a special skill (You still have to actually get it, it's just locked off to people who are 1/1). Almost any combination is viable.
>>37493519It has pretty bitching art.
>>37496394You get to choose two classes out of the six, and one position out of the six (think personality archetypes). You get two skills from your main class, one from your second class, and one from your position.Your classes also give you Reinforcement Points, which give you additional parts that do assorted cool things. You start with the baseline points for each class (two for most, one for the Psychedelic class introduced in the expansion book), plus one to freely place in any of the three categories. For the classes:-Stacy has a hell of a lot of tankiness, and the ability to take hits for other characters. Strangely enough, it also has one skill that boosts the shit out of every single combat roll you make (including the ones to avoid losing limbs to Dismember weapons) at the cost of making you rapidly break down under the strain of your awesomeness. It gives you a point each in the Armaments and Mutations part categories.-Gothic is the second tanky class, working less on sheer NO FUCK YOU I DON'T DIE and more on gobbling up mans and stopping enemies from moving to the other party members. Its lone attack-boosting skill lets you RIP AND TEAR entire limbs off of dudes with your teeth. Grants a point each in Mutations and Enhancements.-Thanatos is your armed berserker type, with a bunch of skills to let you land better, stronger hits with melee weapons. If you're a pure Thanatos, and you took the special skill, and somebody hits you while in melee range, you can immediately blow your entire turn (minus however much of it you didn't need to burn off) to push their shit in with a gorillion different weapons. Points are in Armaments and Enhancements.-Requiem is guns. That's pretty much all it does, aside from having one or two generically useful skills that literally anyone can use. Both reinforcement points go into Armaments.(cont'd)
Funny that this question should pop up right now.I imported the book a little while ago in preparation for a game I'm running, and I've been working on translating as much of that big incomplete memory table as my moon skills will allow.http://pastebin.com/q4NFViyRSo there you go, everyone! Still working, but there's a lot more than there were in the last version I saw.
>>37494873Phyrexian lolis: the game.
>>37496942-Baroque is tough, but not as tanky as the other two tanky classes. It focuses on making Unarmed-type parts (i.e. the Mutation parts) better. Both points go to Mutations.-Romanesque is mainly focused around supporting effects, and has a neat little skill that makes you harder to hit for the rest of the round. (No, you can't stack it to become invincible.) Both reinforcement points go to Enhancements.-Psychedelic is the expansion class. Its skills are HOLY SHIT TERRIFYING and often have painful costs to pay. Since the skills are so goddamn powerful, it only brings *one* reinforcement point, loaded into Enhancements. Doubling up on it hurts like hell in terms of parts available, but gives you access to a skill that utterly fucking wrecks every single thing on the battlefield, no questions asked. (CAUTION: You and your party are probably on the battlefield.)Those reinforcement points, as I mentioned, give you extra parts. -Armaments are mostly attack options with one or two oddities like mad kung fu skillz and a literal fucking coffin that you can use to block attacks and carry around spare internal organs.-Mutations are a grab bag of stuff to make you tougher and attack options that are mostly inferior to the stuff in Armaments unless you have the skills to back them up. I say "mostly" because of the Meat Snake, a hilariously broken part that's basically a Xenomorph's tongue-mouth-thing and does tons of hits while getting free rerolls. It's in the third tier, where all the best parts in every category are - you're not going to combine it with Gauntlets right out the gate without a really specific build.-Enhancements has some defensive goodies, some okay weapons, and utility effects out the ass. Of particular note to minmaxers are the Gauntlets and Crab Legs, both tier three Enhancements that give damage reduction to the relevant area and boost the damage of melee and unarmed weapons in those areas.(cont'd)
How many expansions are there for this game, and is there anywhere cheaper to get them than Amazon?
>>37497268There's the core rulebook and two supplements. One's a GM's guide/enemy collection and the second is mainly the new class and collection of new skills spread around between the others. Unless you have a friend in Japan who loves you, Amazon is probably your best bet.
>>37497188Is there a translated version?
>>37497206And finally, there's the "positions". A mechanic where you get superpowers from your in-character coping mechanisms.-The Alice tries to hold the idea of peaceful times in her mind, and is really, really good at soothing the party's mental wounds. That's pretty much all the position does, though.-The Holic throws sanity out the window and tirelessly pursues an obsession. They get skills that turn them into horrifying combat monsters, but almost all of them make you go nuts faster, and the only one that doesn't can make the REST OF THE PARTY flip their shit. Also they can charge forward for fewer AP than normal, letting them close to melee and start wrecking faces.-Automatons disregard emotionality and live like machines. Their position skills are all over the place, but there's a general theme (for the most part) of not letting madness points build up in the first place.-The Junk type just plain gives no fucks. Somehow this turns into most of their skills being weird positional shit. Most types have one or two positional skills, but they have five. The others are mostly about being okay with your own dismemberment.-Court is your thinker/strategist. They get supporting effects (mostly), and have options to shuffle madness points from the party onto themselves, or disregard their own growing insanity by smacking themselves in the face.-The Sorority is a leader, focusing herself on protecting the rest of the party. She's the other good madness management type besides the Alice, and also has a few more warlord-y tricks up her sleeve. You can get a lot of different builds out of this, and unless you do something really counterintuitive, it usually works out all right. Strong builds DO exist (I'm looking at you, Gauntlet Snake), but are not super dominating unless the rest of the party is built in a really unfocused way.>>37497268>>37497474TLwiki has all the player-side goodies. You'll probably need to listen to >>37497363 for the GM supplement.
>>37497505Is it Sorority that can literally bitch-slap companions back to their senses (Tough Love)?
>>37497363Would you happen to know the Japanese names of the two Supplements?
>>37497608箱庭の物語 is the GM book, and 歪曲の舞踏 is the player-side stuff. If you were going to just import one, I'd probably go for the first, because most of the crunchy bits of 歪曲の舞踏 are already on TLwiki.
>>37497580Yes that is sororities. If someone is in a state of madness (As in one of their fetters has maxed madness points), you can deal damage to them to remove a point. This is worded such that even if you hit them with something like an explosion, it will still work. So you can potential cure a number of your party members of their madness by throwing dynamite at them.
>>37497505Oh, almost forgot to mention, Romanesque has one particular skill that's badly translated wherever you find it. I'm pretty sure One's Many Charms is supposed to reduce the cost of the parts named "Arm" and "Foot", not every single part in the Arms and Legs regions. If it were the second way around, then Gothic/Romanesque builds would be able to freely shit everything up with 2 damage dismembering punches for 1 AP per swing.>>37497580GRIT YOUR TEETH
>>37497653>you can potentially cure a number of your party members of their madness by throwing dynamite at them. That is so anime it hurts my funny bone.
>>37495914>Zettai ReidoDude, I know ZR is very magical realm'y, but saying that it makes FATAL look prudish is an hyperbole. FATAL strongest point isn't the setting, which by the way is almost, if not more, /d/eviant than ZR, but the mechanics, the fucking mechanics that make you fucking hate yourself for even trying to play the thing.
>>37496631Does it? OP's image is by an artist called Hetza. I think a lot of the "official" Necronicha art has a very cutesy, magical girl vibe to it.
>>37495096>>37495116>>37495604>>37495310>>37495914I don't think you faggots have any idea what magical realm means. This is embarrassing.
>>37498377IIRC Nechronica replay ended up with two undead girls growing functional wombs and impregnating each other with sheer power of forbidden love and maybe some advanced future laboratory tech.I mean, I'm not complaining, it's cute and all, but it probably does qualify as a Magical Realm.
>>37498377"Magical Realm" has been employed so wrongly so often that it just became another buzzword devoid of all meaning like "autistic" or "mary sue".
>>37498377>undead guro lolis being tortured and mutated into madness for funsies before impregnating each other>not fetishy as fuckThe game actually sounds pretty fucking neato, though.
The game can really be whatever you want as it is very roleplay intensiveYou could have either cute undead magical girls or pic related
>>37498453>>37498520Dumbasses. If the GM runs Piss Forest: the Whizzarding, you can't call it magical realm. You all sat down to play Piss Forest.
>>37498618>The game can really be whatever you want as it is very roleplay intensiveRoleplaying is pretty much required as conversation checks are the primary way to remove madness, and the book does say to give bonuses for doing it well.
>>37498724Which means calling the game a portal into the magical realm of piss is apt.Seriously though, I'd probably just reskin it to be less...Japanese if I did manage to get a game of it together since I do really like the idea of the way this game plays.Maybe have the players be a squad of mutant soldiers from Evolve's Mutagen Wars. Especially since I could then stat the Wraith and throw it at them whenever I wanted.
>>37498982I don't know what this post is supposed to convey. All I'm getting is someone that can't into magical realm, and doesn't want to play nechronica but does?
>>37499085>>37499085He doesn't feel comfortable playing as a little girl. Most people who have a similar feeling could just ignore the part where it says that characters have to be little girls. The game isn't dependent on that being held as sacred.
>>37499210it's kinda like people wanting adult pilots in AdEva, only more okay becausea) gender AND age restrictions (sorta)b) AFAIK there's no in universe reason it has to be that way
>>37499085Mostly I'm just saying that the game could be a hard sell since the sales pitch on it could be received rather poorly ("Hey dude, wanna play a game about mutilated undead little girls murderfucking each other?") while simultaneously trying to express my interest in the game.>>37499210Eh, I don't care that much, I just don't find playing little girls very fun. I'm not against anybody who enjoys it and I would play along if everyone else wanted, but I would just prefer something a little since that's more to my taste.
>>37499263>b) AFAIK there's no in universe reason it has to be that wayThe in universe reason is that the necromancers like to do it that way for reasons. Some of the things it attributes to the PCs being little girls (primarily treasures and the fetters) could easily be refluffed as just the undead clinging to the shit from their former life.
>hey look, a neat game about body horror and zombie lolis>let's use it for something other than body horror and zombie lolis
>>37499592But nobody wants to get rid of the body horror you goofball.
>>37499592Meh, I think it's dumb too, but let them have their fun.
>>37499592It's revenge for trying to shove lolis into everything else.
>>37499779You're right. I'm so tired of having all these lolis shoved in my face while playing pathfinder, and dark heresy, and shadowrun.
>>37499848You joke, but it happens. A lot.
>>37499848Are you saying your Shadowrun games AREN'T filled with loli Troll deckers?
>>37497163Wow, that all looks incredible! You should post it to the TL wiki!
>>37498982>Can't take context of the game, which is actually really cool>Try to change it to something much more cliche and boringWow, you're a fucking faggot.
>>37499313>Hey dude, wanna play a game about mutilated undead little girls murderfucking each other?boy do I
>>37501008>everyones dead except for little girls that became mutant zombie goasts because raisinsBut really, I'm just a fan of cheesy sci-fi as well as body horror and the Mutagen Wars was both.
>>37501234You forgot the part where they're also robots.
>>37501008>gets buttmad that everyone doesn't share his loli fetishWow, you're a fucking faggot.
>>37501363Again, Mutagen Wars covers that.
>>37501426Not saying his reaction is entirely appropriate, but this is a game about playing a loli. Being involved with it when you're anathema to them is a bit odd.
>>37501479That's an aspect of it, and for some a definite draw, but the mechanics (which are pretty damn good) are not dependent on being the little girl.
>>37501479>but this is a game about playing a loliMonsters and Other Childish Things it ain't, pal. Besides the names of some of the classes, there are no real mechanics central to being a loli. I have no issue with people who want to play it for its original loli and pregnant necro-womb filled intent, but it's kinda asinine to claim that the game and system are solely about necrololis impregnating each other.
>>37501767Nobody else even brought the fetish aspect up, cap.
>>37501875Yeah, but that's not necessarily what people who want to play it in its original for mare after.
>>37501767The game isn't about zombie girls getting each other preggers. That was just the exceedingly p/u/re resolution of the replay.
>>37501933>The game isn't about zombie girls getting each other preggers.Exactly.
Here's what I have.
>>37501933>The game isn't about zombie girls getting each other preggers.
>>37501426I don't even have a loli fetish. And if you actually read the game there's a trait that lets you be a boy. But you wouldn't read the game, would you? Well, you probably don't know Japanese, but regardless. The game is about sad rotting children who are suffering. The game is *made* to play sad rotting children who are suffering. Yeah, you have the body-part and sanity systems, but you also have incomplete memories, the GM as an active force via the Necromancer, etc.But sure, you are an individual human being with thoughts and feelings separate from my own, go ahead and do your thing. Tear out everything that makes the game unique and gives it context and turn it into I dunno Apocalypse World I guess? It just seems horribly counter-intuitive to play a game of Nechronica and then decide to not actually play Nechronica when you have a variety of systems at your disposal that would be much more intuitive for your purposes. But no, I'm not going to reach across the Internet and punch you for having your fun, even if that was a thing I could do.
>>37502030It's still about zombie lolis, though.Hell, to be a boy, you need a mutation. The mutation gives you a pretty useful ability, too.
>>37503347Yeah, it's funny, being a boy is objectively more optimal just because you go insane slower.
>>37498982>Which means calling the game a portal into the magical realm of piss is apt.You have no idea what magical realm means and you are also a braying retard.
>>37494873Basically a game set in contemporary russia, but you play lolislavs.>>37498377>>37495116One of the premade adventures for the game culminates in consensual yuri-loli-impregnation, which given the shit Cthulhutech got for a mere rape table and some mind control furries is fairly magical realm Nechronica has a more coherent and well organised system than cthulhutech though.Of course there's a monster in Pathfinder that instantly causes any living thing within a set radius to have to make a save vs. impregnation, so maybe forced pregnancies are vanilla these days.
>>37503787>so maybe forced pregnancies are vanilla these days. What is Aliens. You'd think the movie that became a classic and spawned a multi million dollar franchise, and which starred a spider vagina raping your throat to cause you to give birth to a snake penis through your chest would hint you off that yes, impregnation and birthing is a potentially critically powerful element of horror.
>>37498241>cutesy artOnly in the most messed up way. It is done by an artist who's site is called the Akita Morgue, which is found here:http://www.geocities.co.jp/AnimeComic-Ink/9393/index2.htmlScroll to the bottom for his best stuff. In fact, this is how I first found out about Nechronica and made a few threads about a while back. Even did a shitty job at cleaning/translating the character sheets before someone came over and did a far better one.
>>37503787You do realize that magical realm entails the GM introducing a foreign element to the game, right? His fetish, that he forces on the players.
>>37497679>I'm pretty sure One's Many Charms is supposed to reduce the cost of the parts named "Arm" and "Foot", not every single part in the Arms and Legs regions. If it were the second way around, then Gothic/Romanesque builds would be able to freely shit everything up with 2 damage dismembering punches for 1 AP per swingtoo bad, I'm still shitting everything up with dismember-jaw/fist attacks.
>>37496631It's like a mutant R93 Tactical...
>>37493519Now, why would you want to keep part of the original arm? If you have the technology to make augments that advanced, wouldn't you just replace everything with them?
>>37504082Read the thread.
>>37504082as I understand it, this setting contains magic.this would lead me to assume that it's a case of>laughing_necromancer.jpg>it's magic, I'm not explaining shit.another point I've noticed is that the game contains a sanity system, the old flesh is familiar and less likely to have a negative impact on your mind...
>>37504110Pretty much. Anything that doesn't seem logical is likely a necromancer getting their jollies from it. There's also the possibility that they didn't have the material. Sticking parts that you shot/chopped off an enemy onto yourself is not a rare occurrence.
>>37504082Because it's nechronica. Maybe your necromancer didn't have the full arm so he said ''fuck it, I will use what I have''. And then he was ending up with a half robot grill with animal legs because his last set of good legs went to another zombie.
>>37494873Another fetish game from the creators of Maid.
I've never played Nechronica but I rolled a loli that could fire an anti-material rifle 3 times in 6 seconds with zero drop in accuracy.
>>37504082You realize there's such a thing as a limit on materials, right? No sense using all your plotnium to put an extra long extending arm on one zombie when you could put long-enough extending arms on three.
>>37504279Requiem with any one of the split point classes, floating point to give you 3 arm / 1 mut / 1 enh, take +1 AP parts for all three of your tier 1 parts to reach 12 AP per round. That's my guess. Also, a round in Nechronica is probably closer to twenty seconds than six.
>>37495771>I never thought of that being something that would come up? I mean, what kind of Necromancer would install a womb upgrade into their "perfect" creation? Eugh.>And then they both fertilize themselves and then try to recreate the human race with themselves? I mean, one is fucking eleven!Have you not heard of Clive Barker's Dr. Talisac? From Wikipedia:Dr. Talisac, a.k.a. The Surgeon of the Sacred Heart, is a fictional character created by Clive Barker for the Tortured Souls toy line. He is hanging from his face by six hooks, his upper left arm has flesh peeled back, but his most notable feature is the translucent womb where his genitals should be. Inside the womb, you can see something growing inside. This something is the Mongroid, the second coming. Talisac believes that the birth of Mongroid is the second "virgin birth". After Mongroid's birth however, Talisac was devoured by his child. Talisac is set to appear in Tortured Souls: Animae Damnatae.
>>37501767>I have no issue with people who want to play it for its original loli and pregnant necro-womb filled intentThe PCs being able to get pregnant was just something the GM of the intro game made up for the scenario, and isn't one of the abilities you can normally gain. So calling it the pregnant necro-loli game isn't really fair. Not that I wouldn't play pergnant necrololi: the game.>>37504855>I mean, what kind of Necromancer would install a womb upgrade into their "perfect" creation?Probably he wanted to make his perfect creation as close to a living human as possible, so he included all the organs and gave it the ability to reproduce like a human.
>>37503688No, it's not even the lolis. Christ, haven't you read? You don't need to be a loli - you can be a teenager too, and boys aren't off limits.Just fuckin'... actually read the book, please. I can't believe I have to sperg about this, but lo' and behold, /tg/ fucks it up otherwise. The little girls/children serve an aesthetic purpose. They're supposed to introduce a factor of innocence and purity into a world that is anything but, while being fucking reanimated corpses. They're supposed to be moe so that you can stomp all over moe, like Gen Urobuchi does in Madoka (though with even less subtly). Yeah, I have no doubt that this game was made to appeal to Ryo Kamiya's zombie musume fetish at least somewhere down the line, but it is completely different in its approach compared to Maid RPG or, god forbid, Zettai Reido. Were you unsettled by the ending to the replay (which covers barely any of it)? Well, it's a fucking horror game, what did you honestly expect? It isn't coincidental that the real moment of triumph in the replay was distinctly grotesque, intertwining sex and death like goddamn Silent Hill. That's just how far the world has fallen, and it demonstrates just how little the reanimated children understand about life, the world, or anything.Almost all of the character-based fluff in the game is geared towards supporting or preying upon this immaturity, kind of like Rule of Rose if you've ever played that. It's taken Maid RPG's adherence to anime cliches and Zettai Reido's goofy edginess and sublimated them into something worthwhile. It's way more about somber nostalgia over a ruined world, your own ruined body and psyche, and feels than undead loli murderfucking. It's about scrounging around in the dirt to salvage some meager echo of normalcy or happiness in a dead, or rather undead world. Honestly, it's more like Wraith: The Oblivion or Promethean: The Created + the Gentry from Changeling: The Lost (the Necromancer), in practice than anything.
>>37505577 Taken from the wiki >"The dolls of old were made to resemble either girls or animals. Necromancers, too, make them in the shape of cute girls. Some of them may have been intended to be boys, but the difference in appearance between those and girls is a subtle one. "So if you take it at it's word, you at least look like a little girl. The mutation to be a boy is easy to miss. You're spot on about the intent and reasoning of it though.
>>37505577To be honest, my dm is also including all kinds of stuff in his game, ranging from lolis to 20-ish looking guys and it is still working out. Nechronica is realy one of those games where you have to refluff some things that you don't want and then you have a rule-light game that can be alot of fun.
>>37505767>even if you take the boy mutation, you're a trapNechronica a best.
Looks pretty interesting, Holic/Gothic/Romanesque master race.
>>37505577That's about right. I think it's worth noting here that in basically all of the Nechronica art people have made outside the main book, they're teenagers, and the game plays just the same. Boys works fine, and is actually supported by the core rules and a pretty good ability. Older clueless kids works fine. Mutant super soldiers does not work fine, because the game's main novel mechanic is based around miserable kids trying to deal with the sorts of situations mutant super soldiers would probably thrive in.>>37504110There's actually no magic in the default setting, but the explanation given is vague, implausible, and technobabbley enough that you can make it magic without really changing a single thing. laughing_necromancer.jpg is as good an explanation as any, in either case.

>>37505853Scratch any of the best horror movies and under the surface you find sex, death, life, lust, and horror all rolled into one. >>37506515it ends up like battle of the ninja-bards?is it one of those shows like madoka that starts in a sickeningly cute mode as a disguise?
>>37506548It's not exactly a bait-and-switch like Puella Magi or Narutaru. It really is a show about a magical ballerina who helps people understand their feelings with the power of dance. The actual plot that's part of is just ridiculously existentially dark.

>>37506739Wait, which is the ryona piece of shit? Which are you referring to, Madoka or Narutaru?'cause, I mean, Madoka is overrated and practically entry-level at this point, especially with Rebellion fucking everything up, but at least it's a good entry-level, and to say it isn't competently made would be remiss. It is a natural platform to get into works like Narutaru. And if you're saying Narutaru is bad... well, I don't know what to say to you, other than that you are a tasteless faggot, because Mohiro Kitoh's work is extravagant and easily the match of Urobuchi's, period. It's openly stated by the rules that you have some range to work with agewise, and being male actually gives you a really useful bonus if you take the part for it instead of just having it in fluff. The game requires zero modding to be unfetishy, unless despair is your fetish, in which case LET THE GUTTING COMMENCE.

>>37509359Here. We don't play it correctly (in the sense of less combat than what the rules tell you to) but it is still a nice experience. How it realy plays out depends on your dm since every necromancer hands out different tasks. For it's sailing around on a sea of acid, trying to stop another necromancer whateverway we can. So we explore alot, figure out what happened to the world and beeing silly people in generell because we are kinda running low on the whole sanity thingy.
>>37509359It varies pretty heavily with the group, and especially with the GM. I play in a weekly-where-possible campaign, and my favorite session so far involved a grueling battle with a monstrous enemy necromancer who revived herself as a cloud of angry giblets after the first time I mulched her. Our pet NPC got hacked to bits by flying pieces of lightsaber and her ultimate weapon detonated, leaving the party sitting on a giant heap of horror and loss and our own flayed flesh.Later, we accidentally resurrected said NPC in a fog bank made of ghosts, but it just wasn't the same.

Which is why "it's good because muh feels" is a similarly shitty argument. What makes you misty eyed might just make someone else roll their eyes.I know someone who cried during Bayformers 3 for fuck's sake and half of fucking 4chan bawled like little bitches over Katawa Shoujo, and both of those are about as much emotionally deep as a puddle is physically deep. So "feels" is a bullshit argument and you know it.
>>37509881Just so you know, >>37509529 and >>37509580 are propably in the same game. We are having 2 partys in the same world and I belive that those are the things that our two partys did so far.

>>37510046>So "feels" is a bullshit argument and you know it.I wasn't using it as an argument I was bending the topic, FUN isn't an empty word, nor is it useless. it's just wildly variable; variability aside, it's the whole reason WHY I come here, and why I play games...I'm not fond of lolis or that other business so houserules and stripping out distasteful bits of setting etc. is likely to happen...I see posts like >>37509529 and >>37509580 and I have my interest piqued by the gameplay mechanics and the ways the setting works. because I think it sounds like it could be fun. from where I see things, it seems more like you're in this thread for the purpose of attacking this game and little else.Have you played it? I've not played this game. I'm not judging it. I cannot, because I have yet to play it or look closely at it's mechanics. >>37510684>2 parties? as in the same group runs 2 separate campagins? why? not shocked, just wondering...No, it's two separate parties pursing their own adventures in the same world. Same GM, though, and the two parties have run into each other.>>37510046You want an argument as to why this game is good? Here-It's fun because it's actually pretty well designed. All of the classes and positions are made such that it's really damn hard to make a useless character. The timing and Action Point mechanics of the combat system requires constant participation of all combats as nearly every character will have something they can use to pre-empt a maneuver or buff/debuff actions. The fact that most of those actions can only be done once per round helps to avoid situations of everyone just countering/buffing everything willy nilly, though you do get cases of one-upmanship, as someone mentioned in the thread earlier, that's just part of the fun.The madness point/Conversation Check actively encourages role-playing (as do the memory fragments and favor) so if you don't like murderhobos with no character, you won't find them here.

Probably crap, but likely to at least be better received by more people.
My favourite thing about trying Nechronica was how much more sensible the group's ridiculous plans seem when entire team is leetle girls. Also the GM kindly let me refluff the rocket launcher as an arm cannon and I took the skill that lets you break parts to reroll failed attacks. >>37517109They're not dead till you use them...
The small family's trail had led from the crucifixion crane yard to the toppled over remains of a tank meant to resist the Necromancers an age ago.As large as what was once a city block the creaking corpse of metal mirrored its inhabitants. Bundles of the regional Necromancer's abandoned spare parts had coalesced into distinct individuals. Their fragmented intelligences imitating what dimly perceived memory provided as companionship.A temporary refuge from the clatter of the ravenous Horde outside the tank ruin's rust thinned chassis. The leader of these motile corpse refugees was only barely able to keep the tremors of fear from showing on her four mismatched tool appendages while stating "We are going to make a stand. Rose, you have the beast eyes among us. You will snipe with Tuna, she doesn't have as good night vision but can spot movement very well".
>>37525596The devices at the end of Thatch's limbs only had enough energy to draw upon one at a time. The drill was chosen with the other three frozen in mid movement in order to best balance Tuna's bolting to the shoulder of Rose. Thatch's mind replayed memories she was sure weren't hers of military exercises meant to delay and confound the Necromancers' relentless minions. Perhaps they were some eternal penance inflicted on the remaining to show the futility of resistance or maybe she did have some soldier's soul bolted onto her like Tuna balancing on Rose."Rose, you're going to be aiming the burner. I'll go below with Spur to wake up the house" Thatch barked orders heedless of the echoes, the Horde was this close already and lack of immediate foes wouldn't end their hunt for her family.
>>37525605Spur's empty eye socket glinted as its almost fresh counterpart blinked tears of fright "If you're sure Thatch, the house might not want to be woken up". While possessing the original connections between limb and torso Spur's past was her namesake as slabs of chemically motivated bone projected dangerously from her slender joints. These awkward projections allowed her to brace herself and Thatch while moving through the hazardous pit that led to the former tank's brain. The aroma of preservative caused the opposite of gagging in both of the travelers. The entombed cortex wasn't completely dead and exhaled the narcotic scent of something different. Thatch had to tighten the wrappings beneath her chin to prevent the salivation from endangering Spur's hand holds.
>>37525635The uncomfortably conjoined sniper crew on the tank's gunnery station levels above looked at the inert burner. Rose's scraping voice had it's origin in the aesthetic of whoever fashioned her. Throat opening and closing like stylized petals of reluctantly moving dead flesh she made her objections clear to her passenger Tuna.Tuna in response uttered a mechanical yawn of nonchalance from the riveted framework that encapsulated her head above eye level. Some in the family thought that Tuna was a beacon left by their creators or worse yet a willing spy for the Necromancers. She didn't care either way but cooperated because there were no legs for her to leave them with. From the dim horizon there was the milling throng of the Horde. A much older relic of the past they were the earliest and most effective Necromantic foot soldiers before final victory and the debased affection that resulted in the Dolls own genesis.
>>37525674Thatch made an odd mother figure for the two but even her crude discipline cemented Rose's loyalty. Tuna relented to Rose's petal puckered pestering and swept her sensor suite of networked dead insects in as wide an arc as Rose's shoulder would allow. The soul that Rose's monstrous eyes were a window into shuddered at the magnified composition of the assembled assialiants huddled against the tank's rotten metal skin below. The plant theme extended to the sinew vines that provided Rose's hands and locomotion and she almost rooted herself to the spot out of fright. The dull THUNK of Tuna bunting her head from shoulderblade harness and the ensuing digital squawk woke Rose from her overstimulated sensory fugue.
>>37525705Below in the tank's sarcophagus the Dolls own appetites were beginning to mirror those of the surrounding Horde itself. The blessed perfume of functioning brain matter had summoned an uncanny grace from Spur's usually pain wracked movements and Thatch braced herself against the apocalypse proven glass and inhaled greedily with all four tool limbs whirring in impossible unison.Awakening to find her tongue licking medulla condensation from the tank brain casing Thatch embarrassedly coiled her snaking mouth limb with a sound not unlike sandy garden hose. Spur was lost to the odor and had curled into a whimpering ball of bone and rags.Finding some inexplicable atavistic need for order Thatch drilled a hole into her companion's nearest bone slab, the whine and smoke eventually rousing Spur into a consciously whimpering ball.
>>37525768As if to spite the Dolls' gnawing hunger the brain flickered to merely being comatose instead of on standby. Lazy bubbles moved in slow motion within the shock resistant liquid as mysterious symbols flashed from rust caked surfaces.Thatch was thankful that Spur was still in the midst of some traumatic episode and not calling for some sort of guidance. Whatever soldier's echo was contained in Thatch's brainmeats it gave her no guide on how to coerce into action its relation floating before her."Well at least I can guess why the Horde tracked us here" Thatch sobbed into the crook of a tool arm.
>>37525784Spur's joint bones which projected outside the pallid skin that attempted to contain them acted as bemoaned conductors of vibration for the mopey one eyed Doll. There was a thrumming below that forced Spur to open her eye and return to harsh reality from the soft focus dream world that she had retreated to."So you're up" Thatch emphasized with a tool hand snapping sound in an attempt to hide the tears. Spur nodded and motioned for the unofficial leader to stay silent "I think the house is talking?"Outside the wrecked last gasp of mankind's defense against the Necromancers the Horde's cannibalistic reenactment of that last slaughter was interrupted by long dormant loudspeakers "CONDITION: OBELAR, THRESH PRINCE ACTIVATED, EXTINCTION LEVEL EVENT IN PROGRESS!".-----And that's it from me. Haven't played the game yet but it seems like I could build that group with little refluffing of existing options.

>>37495652Quick question about the battle system. How does damage actually work, for both players and enemies? I want to run a campaign but can't wrap my head around it.
>>37526816For the players: Damage = Parts that you have to destroy. For enemies: Depends on the enemietype. Hords lose 1 unit per damage. It it is an area attack, the damage it doubled. If it is a dismember attack, the damage is doubled. So area+dismemer = 4x damageHorrors have ''hp'' and don't lose parts. If it is a dismember attack, the damage is doubled. If it is an explosive attack, the damage is doubled. Savants: Just like player characters.Damage can be lowered with defensive items (coffin, armor skin ect). The hit location (for Savants and player characters) is 6 = targets choice, 7 = legs, 8 = torso, 9 = arms, 10 = head, 10+ = attackers choice. So lets say I get hit with an 9 from a 1 damage+dismember attack. Now I have to destroy 1 part in my arm location (hand, arm or shoulders). That means that the attack ripped my hand/hands off and that I can't use my hands anymore until I got a new pair of hand/hands. Then I have to roll a d10 and if I roll under a 1-5 my whole arm region is gone. I could use my armor skin to drop the damage to 0. Now I don't take damage.
>>37526594No it's just my attempt at some amateur fiction for that game. If my ordinary writing sounds like something Google Translate would eject I'll take that as a compliment. As for the setting it seems like someplace that might work as an appropriated region for Engine Heart or a MAID post apocalypse game. The Necromancers have completed their control of a particular section and no one wants to disturb the undead armistice.
>>37526932Okay, that helps. Thanks a lot. Could you classify explosive damage for me as well? I take it to mean that if I strike an arm location, I can damage the body as well, but my friend takes it to mean he can fire a shot into Limbo and hit an area on either side as well.
>>37527114You are right. You damage (as an example) the arms and then you also damage the head or the torso with the same damage. This also means that defense actions double there defense for those attacks (once for the normal damage and once for the explosive damage).
>>37527114>>37526932Explosive applies the damage dealt to another hit location, so shotgun is Ranged 1 + explosive. If it hits the arms, it will do one damage to both the arms and torso. Explosive DOES NOT affect multiple targets in the area. That's what the Area of Attack is for. (Dynamite is an example of this, it is Blast 1 + Explosive + Area Attack) Area attack hits everything in the same area as the target (so if used on someone in Limbo, it hits everyone in Limbo)Adding to this, getting a result over 10 on an attack check increase the damage by however much it is over 10. If you roll a 10 when attacking with an AT Rifle (damage 5) and have a +2, adding up to 12, you will do 7 damage to a location of your choice (This can be quite hilarious/deadly with explosive attacks). Also of note is the fact that there is no natural 1 or 10's, a roll of 1 will not be a critical failure if you have a positive modifier and you can get a critical success by adding enough bonuses to a roll. You can also use this to force critical failures on enemies by hitting then with hinder stuff.
>>37527202Thanks again. Oh, about Defence. Is it a permanent decrease to all damage taken, or a one-off per turn?
>>37527420It's against one attack. So if you activate it to defend yourself, you can't use it again for that turn.
>>37527463Alright, I think that was everything that was troubling us. Once again, thanks a lot for your help.
>>37527588Good luck with your game.
>>37527624Yeah, if we ever get time to play it. My group's spread all up and down England at the moment. I've been thinking about Roll20, but I doubt I can make it work.
>>37527700Any particular reason you can't make it work over roll20?
>>37527762I didn't think the battle system would adapt too well to it. I guess I can give it a go at some point once we're done with our current campaign.
>>37527953It works fine over roll20. Here is the map for combat if you need it.
>>37528551?????okay...I'm lost now...what?details please...
>>37527953It works perfectly fine, You give each player two tokens, one for where their character is on the map and one for where they are on AP.
>>37528577Right side = AP counter. Everything else = The position of the characters and enemies. Combat is abstract so you only realy need this map. I'm also going to post the tokens that the game wants us to use (we never did through)
>>37528608....so, AP approximates to initiative?and the other one is an equivalent of combat range? tartarus being the first sighting location of opponents and eden being the furthest away?
>>37528654>>37528577AP is both initiative and how much you can act in a turn. Something that has an AP cost of 3 will move you from your current AP to 3 less, So if you're at AP 9 and use it, you will move down to AP 6. Higher APs move first. The location is an abstraction of how far characters are from each other, If they're in the same location they can be considered next to each other.
>>37528654Sort of. During character creation, each character chooses one location to start combat it (Eden, Elysium or Limbo). Those are abstract ideas of the battlefield but eden is almost always the place where you could retreat from. Enemies start on the other side, so you can't realy get into melee unless both of you start in limbo. AP are the points that you spend on your actions. You get more AP with parts and a few skills. Let's say that I have 10 AP and you have 9. The person with the highest AP goes first, so me. I can then spend AP to do an action (let's say that I fire with a shotgun). This costs me 2 AP. My AP count is now 8 and yours is 9, so now you can do an action. This goes on until we all ran out of AP. You can't spend any AP anymore if you have 0, but you can spend more on your last action and go into the -. Then the next round starts where the AP is reset. If you lost any parts that give you AP, tough luck, you don't get those anymore. If you where in the -, then you have to spend those AP now. Then the combat resumes.
>>37528702so, the assault team runs up from elysium to limbo, the shotgunner(s) stops and the melee monsters proceed to hades or tartarus to wreck shit.the supporter and the sniper stay back in eden or elysium where it's safer?>>37528742>During character creation...hmmm....?....so a monster that starts combat in elysium or eden is either very fast or very sneaky?
>>37528812If they're "assault" or melee, they're probably starting in Limbo and may have something that lets them move further, and supports are going to try to position themselves where they can make the most use of whatever abilities they have.>so a monster that starts combat in elysium or eden is either very fast or very sneaky?Monsters usually don't start in those zones, just like you don't have players start in Tartarus, but if they do, it's up to the GM how to fluff it.
>>37528812Yes. Monsters can technicly start everywhere, you just need to give them a reason why. You can also just give bullshit reasons and let the players start somewhere else (you need to flee from the battle because reasons, you all start in tartarus ect.). But in general, those are the positions where you start in.

Crazy pulp tech was around and likely used by both sides except the Necromancers were more successful than the nation states. Is there a random aspect to character creation like MAID?Ending up with a mismatched patchwork from random rolls seems like an option fitting with the capricious nature of the Necromancers' work.
>>37535442In theory, you can roll everything. The game expects that you'll roll your Fragments of Memory, Premonition, and Fetters, but you can do classes, position, and even parts if you're feeling lucky.

(Like say the dreaded nazi rape machine which is straight up from Urotsukidoji, one of the things that went completely over /tg/'s head)I think more people than who are willing to admit it would recognise legend of the overfiend, they just still found it was a still a bad idea and rather tasteless to include it into the game.I've got a soft spot for Ctech myself but there is no denying it's a horribly flawed system. It fail to deliver on its 'Lovecraft meets Eva' premise and classes are terribly broken I don't lend themselves to group play. That's before we start even getting to the needlessly bizarre and worky 'poker dice' mechanic.Ctech was a good idea, but there's a lot wrong with it even before people start picking up on some of the more creepy fluff aspects and blow them out of proportion. The most I can say is that I'm hoping that they will eventually decide to rerelease it under the void/Chthonian stars rule set as planned. But I'm not hoping my breath. If I want to run a Lovecraftain science-fiction horror game any time soon I'll probably just run Eclipse Phase as much as I hate their cringeworthy political Tracts and techno utopianism it's a game system which in my opinion works fine.

>>37547752There are pros and cons to picking the same class twice. You can grab the special skill and get to tier 3 parts faster, but you can only grab more skills from one class for 10 favor.

>>37555132It's really not, unless your GM is the type to go "everything is fixed" after every encounter, as the amount of parts you can fix up is dependent upon how the GM feels like treating you. It guarantees you can fix at least three things. It's definitely not in the running for best part in the game, but it can be a good choice if you already got yourself set offensive-wise.
>>37554202The way reinforcement points work is that you gain access to a certain set of reinforcement parts as you level up, *in a very specific order*. For instance, your Stacy/Romanesque combo would have a tier 1 Armament part (which could be your first aid kit pretty easily), a tier 1 Mutation, and one each of tier 1 and 2 Enhancements. The free point could get you a tier 2 Armament or Mutation, or a tier 3 Enhancement. For the record, there are some pretty decent attack parts available to you even if you do grab First Aid with your tier 1 Arm. For instance, the Electrigger in Tier 2 Enhancement is cheap to use and helps make enemies do less in the way of beating on you. Stagger is such a strong effect that, by RAW, the GM is not supposed to use it against you because that would just be unfair.
>>37555244Isn't part regeneration based on the threat level of the enemies? Pretty sure I remember something like that.
>>37555244Oh, whoops, didn't quite get what you meant at firstYeah, I'll deffinately go with that
>>37555306I just realized somethingIf I choose steel bones, electrigger, albino, and first aid kit, and use my extra point on gauntlets, I've made this game's equivalent of a paladin
>>37555995Well, I'm not sure about first aid kit in that setup. You'd have to be in melee range, which makes the first aid kit that much more likely to get broken. It's best to keep first aid kit on a Requiem sniping from Eden, really.
>>37555577This is kinda of an amazing post number. You better do it now.
>>37556357Yeah, especially since there isn't a long range dismember and explosive attacks tend to be shorter range, it's better to have first aid kit on a character in Eden. There's just a really high chance of one of the above breaking it in melee.
