---------------------------------------------

You are Octavia, Necrosavant, pride-queen, Lord (Lady?) of the Wastes, and 9 year old girl.
Previously on NCQ, you abandoned your old base of operations, converted a leonin town into a new fortress of thralls, discovered the secrets of feralization, explored elven ruins in the jungle, and almost got a lesson on the birds and the bees.

Today, the promises of what knowledge those ruins have to offer are still heavy in your mind. But uncovering the language of a dead civilization is no easy task, and you've got plenty to do in the mean time.

You have 12 regular leonin, 12 Wildform leonin and 43 ghouls idle. 12 leonin are researching (Zombie Animals will be completed in one turn) 30 ghouls are on patrol. 6 leonin are hunting. As usual, you may take 2 actions each turn; only Octavia can take part in Personal Actions, but any number of leonin or ghouls can be assigned to Minion Actions. You can also direct idle minions to automatically complete a certain task, though this will take an action slot.
Minion Actions:
>Explore (direction)
>Head to ruins (explore, loot)
>Scavenge
>Research
>Other

Personal Actions:
>Alter Thralls (un-feralize, make feral, semi-feral, etc)

The title brought me in, but I guess this is a lost cause.

If I remember correctly there was still plenty more to loot at those ruins, so I vote we head back there to see what else we can find

Let's also have Octavia do some more experimenting

Also, what's our wurm been doing this whole time? Haven't heard anything about him for a while

Seems exploration is definitely occurring. May as well roll for it now.

We haven't assigned it to a particular task, but using Assign Duties you could do so along with taking care of the idle minions.

Oh yeah.
Have the wurm dig out an underground lair while we experiment. In case we want to not be out in the open or perform experiments too flashy to conduct out in the open without unwanted attention looking our way.

Was that roll just for exploring? You really switched to 2d100 then?

Yeah, I remember a lot of us wanting to do that a while back, but we just had too much stuff going on. Maybe now that things have quieted down a bit, we can get our Underground lair going
>>

Yeah, seems to be consistent enough without making the odds too good.
37/100 it is.

Alright, there's votes for Exploring, Experimenting, and Assigning Duties to the wurm. Which two will it be?
>>
>>36818576
Definitely explore, and I'll change my vote to assigning duties to the wurm and a few idle ghouls to start digging out a secret lair
>>

Exploring and getting a badass underground lair.
>>
Alright, writing up for Explore (37/100) and assigning the wurm to make a lair!
>>
We can study those elven runes afterwards anyways. No rush.
>>
You've still got a lot more you want to explore of the ruins, so you call up your search captain, Jzarna Thicktail, and send him with twelve ghouls and a leonin aide to seek out more glyphs and possibly codices within the ruins. He nods, and departs with his group to the jungles.

Meanwhile, a slight rumble beneath your feet startles you. Right, the necrowurm! Man, did your old master ever get lucky with this thing! You may as well put it to good use. It rises from the earth and looks eyelessly at you.
Though the beast is far below sapience, your commands are simple enough for it to understand: Dig a modest series of tunnels, more permanent than its usual doings, beneath and around your house.

You send several ghouls to aid in the lair's construction, putting up planks and a few stone bolsters to keep the roof/earth from caving in. The lair should be completed in one turn.

Ekal Brighteyes, head of your research department, tells you that they have uncovered new information regarding zombification. Using the wurm as a template, they sought to see how any animal could be zombified and follow orders that in life they could never do.

It seems, once an animal is raised, the body merely acts out orders as an extension of your own conscious. Anything you can do, so could your minions, outside of actually, well, thinking. This means that, should you raise more animal servants, they will be just as competent as your humanoid ones.

>>36818842
Yay, time to go full necro-druid on nature'a ass. Also, we need a bigger brain.
>>
>>36818842
With Ekal finished researching, you dismiss him for now. Tomorrow, you say, you might have more work for him.

As you return to your home, Jzarna greets you, having finished his exploration.

>37/100

Sadly, he says, little new was found. They managed to haul back 1500 [currency]'s worth of gold, but the various runes and glyphs were inscribed directly on the structure. Without removing the wall panel-by-panel, it will be impossible to study the glyphs unless you go there yourself.
Sighing, you dismiss him.

Another day, more things to do!
You have 12 regular leonin, 12 Wildform leonin, 1 abomination, and 35 ghouls idle. 12 leonin are researching (no research assigned currently) 30 ghouls are on patrol. 6 leonin are hunting. 8 ghouls are helping the wurm construct a lair beneath your residence, which will take one more turn.

Another bonus to tunnels is that it gives us excellent defenses. Homefield advantage + knowing the tunnel layouts + cramped space nullifying strength in Numbers (they can only send so many at ounce) means only the very foolish or the very dangerous will go in there thinking they can win.
>>
>>36819005
Sounds to me like having Octavia head to the ruins herself is going to be the easiest way to study those runes, so I vote our next action should be to send her there personally

Now that we know we can create undead animals could we have our hunters bring back corpses for us to raise? Or better yet, could we use the scraps left after they're done eating it to make some more abominations?
>>

Let's try our hands at zombifying animals, maybe starting with those present near the hamlet

Have we ever considered the pre-existing relationship between goblins and Leonins? If they weren't actively hostile, we could use them as a fa├žada sending a diplomatic envoy with some of our newfound riches to exchange with iron and other useful materiel, provided the Goblins have some. Would save us time and efforts.
>>
>>36819005
>Scavenge

>Other
Head to the ruins to look at the glyphs with a retenue.

2 for heading into the ruins, 1 for gathering corpses and 1 for animating those corpses. We could probably combine the last two, were it not that Octavia is heading to the ruins. Any other suggestions?

>>36819086
The leonin are far enough away from the goblins, separated by forests and the wastes, that they've only heard about them, but not really interacted.

Having no corpses at hand, I change my vote to gathering them.

I think we could try and trade with the Goblins, in the future. Let's keep it to mind.

Writing!
>>
The geese speak whispers in my ear of the lands around us. Between their honks, squawks and bites, they recite great songs of the decrepit mountains to the South, the lush, populated forests to the East and the treacherous stormy waters of the great sea to our North-West that defiantly crash upon the cliff faces as if they wish to swallow up this land and all who dwell upon it.

hope this new map is close enough to be of use. If anybody has any comments on what could be changed, don't be afraid to hold back. I was having trouble figuring out where to place everything. It won't take me much to alter the landscape since I plan on reworking the swamps and savannah when I get home from work tonight
>>
Rolled 49, 93 = 142 (2d100)

You wake up the next morning resolved to visit these ruins yourself. Calling together the usual search party, along with Jzarna Thicktail, you set out for the jungles of the west.
Before leaving, you instruct the leonin hunting to bring back any corpses once they've been stripped of meat. You also tell the ghouls working that you'd like them finished by the time you get back.

>54/100

The trip to the ruins is pretty uneventful, though you are frequently swatting bugs away from you in the humid heat. After about an hour of trekking, you see a great stone temple rising out of the undergrowth, two imposing carvings of mythical beasts flanking its entryway. Jzarna tells you that this is the only building that they have properly uncovered from the vines and earth of the forest so far.

Entering, your torches illuminate complex glyphs that seem to cover every surface except the floor. They span wide, unvaulted ceilings and run down intricate patterns around the doorways. Whoever built all of this certainly had a lot of time on their hands, you think to yourself.

You ask Jzarna to show you what has been uncovered thus far, and he directs you to a dozen stone steela, arranged in a neat row with the two tallest in the center and covered, as usual, in glyphs. He says they've managed to work out a crude numbering system, but little else.

>>
>>36819699

Underwhelmed at the progress of your minions, you decide to give this a go yourself. You place your torch down to light up the steela, and look over its many glyphs...

>93/100

The numeral system is obvious, as Jzarna mentioned. But as you look over the steela, other patterns begin to stand out! Near certain numbers, which you discern to be dates, repeating figures appear. You make out one, which looks like a setting sun, to be 'death' - the death of a person, on that date? Looking further, each 'death date' is accompanied by a date above it, and a more ornate glyph. These must be the birth dates, and each ones to a specific person!

You begin to extrapolate from there - if this is death, and this glyph refers to sunset, the one it corresponds to must be a glyph for the sun! Likewise, "sunrise" becomes "sun birth", and after several more hours you've got a couple dozen words and most of the numbers figured out.
This language, it seems, is logo-syllabic, and contains hundreds of glyphs that will need translating.

However, as you head back to camp with one more of the steela in tow, you think that you could give these to Ekal with your own notes and have him try to decode the language, if such a thing is preferred to doing it yourself.

When you return to camp, the lair has been completed. Thanks to the wurm's quick digging and your multitude of expendable workers the tunnels run for nearly a mile total beneath and around the village. They're still crude, lacking rooms and having many wooden supports sticking out in them, but it's a very good start for any future lair.

>84/100

The hunting party returns as well, having made a few very good kills today. They present you with four mostly-hollow gladebuck corpses. You think briefly that it's been quite some time since you ate something other than meat and old bread. One of the problems as an omnivore in a carnivorous society, and you'll want to do something about it eventually.

This isn't what it sounds like.
We originally had a 30-ish man as our necromancer. he made octavia his apprentice.
Then he died due to a combination of stupidity and bad rolls and we decided to continue on with octavia (our only remaining necromancer)
This is a civ quest, in the future we are going to be a council of lichs ruling this civ. Hopefully led by octavia if we don't get her killed prematurely too

The next morning, you begin to notice just how many minions you have idling. You're a dark lord, a taskmaster, not a charity benefit!
Calling together your idle servants, you set them to work.

The wurm, you command to hollow out some proper rooms for your underground lair, and you send 20 ghouls with it to make sure the structures are stable. You note that, without more wood and stone, this task will be difficult.

To the leonin researchers, you bid them continue their work, decoding the steelas.

The remaining ghouls not busy patrolling you send towards the swamps of the west, to there explore and see if anything of value can be salvaged.
The 12 leonin that aren't hunting or researching, you order to scout the savannas around your base, as an additional line of patrol to the 30 ghouls.
The 12 Wildform leonin are still idle.

You can't live your life consuming meat and nothing else, and you're not quite ready to begin devouring the souls of innocents yet, so you send your leonin scouts out to scavenge some berries, nuts, and the like for you to eat.

Meanwhile, you've got four new corpses to work with. Making zombie herbivores is a bit unexciting, so you take them back to your lab/residence for some experimentation...

>76/100

You sever the unneeded limbs from a few of the gladebucks. Sure, you could just make another abomination, but now seems like as good a time as any to try something new. A head here, some tails there, a couple more legs... After a few hours, your task is complete.

You begin the wakedancing ritual, leonin presiding as usual to speed up the process, and soon two Chimeric zombies stamp the ground before you.

>Gained: Two Chimeric undead

Your scouting party returns shortly after, having scavenged the nearby forests for foods that may fit your palette.

>56/100

The leonin, being carnivores, are not terribly knowledgeable on edible plants. Luckily, they've brought enough items that a decent amount of it is actually not likely to kill you when eaten! Lemmas berries, wild mushrooms, even some kale! This should feed you for a while.

What I meant by mind-wiped is, they're not in control of themselves. Now, I don't know how the whole necromancing thing works but I'm kinda sure they need some kind of free will to be as effective as possible. Sure, We can educate them and instruct them to keep our necro-civ alive if we die, and maybe try to resurrect us in the future, but I doubt they'll be able to. Obviously, it's just my opinion.

Your head researcher, Ekal Brighteyes, approaches you as you exit your abode the next morning.

>17/100

He regretfully informs you that little progress has been made since your own decoding. These leonin, they look wise but they can't do anything right! You rebuke Ekal's inefficiency, as well as that of his team, and demand he return at once to the temple and try again.

If these cats can't read, you will at least have to try teaching them some other practical skills. Gathering ten of the leonin assigned to scout, you bring them to the 'moratorium' - an open area behind your house where the corpses are kept - and gather up the most recent dead, a few gladebucks.

"These beasts" you say, "should be an easy enough starting point for you to raise." The leonin are instructed to act one by one, without help from others, and repeat the steps they have often seen you do and that you have trained them to memorize.

>47/100

For most of them, the act is a pitiful display of uncoordinated movements. How, you think to yourself, could you expect these leonin to match your natural talent?
Two among them, however, show proficiency. When they dance alone, the corpse stirs. Intrigued, you include the clapping and singing that usually amplifies the effects. Again, on their own the corpse merely stirs. Pitiful.
However, the idea strikes you to try having them dance together.

And, as typical of yourself, it is a brilliant idea. When the pair move in tandem, the gladebuck rises and rights itself with startling speed and sureness. Together, these two make quite the potent necromancers! The infection of corruption planted within your thralls makes them also a lot more interested in the art as well.

>Raise Dead is now available as a minion action, if you have at least two idle leonin.

Content with their work, you ask the two their names. Talal, the male is named, and the female Nmane. Bidding them practice further, you head off to bed.

Still if they Goblins have half a brain they'll have a shaman give it a look over. Rather not chance that yet. Especially since there are a LOT of goblins in the area.
>>
Sounds like we're going to be doing something involving goblins, either trying to infect them, opening diplomacy with them, scouting them out, or some mixture thereof.
>>
>>36822724
>>36822756
This. They're smart, animal smart but smart nonetheless. Goblins atavically know one language, that of gold and shinies. Let's give them stuff without any requests, and gain their trust. Once they're baited, we can think about fucking them up and adding them to our thrall-count. For now, let's be sneeeky.
>>
>>36822771
Only Leonin we have free are the Wildform at the moment so scouting would be best, from a distance if possible.
>>
>>36822756
I GOT IT

Why don't we start hunting down their food supplies and then offer them our enchanted food. They'll have to say yes
>>
>>36822813
Sounds risky. Very risky. If they have half a mind, they'll start questioning why their old food has gone. Heck, Ckakat was smart enough at least not to trust Mortas.
>>
>>36822813
mebbe we can infect their water sources instead of driving all the wildlife instinct?
>>
>>36822813
Long term plan that could backfire, but with more wildform leonine acting as boogeymen possible...... still long term plan.

Heh. They're in the tens of thousands, mine-dwelling (meaning they've got in-mine food supplies). We number in the tens, don't think we can feasably pull that off. Good idea though, once we have the numbers we can pull it on the Sirrens.

Its a decent idea, just we aren't alrge enough to put up a threat to a massive(by our standards) civ. The goblin kingdom Is likely a smallish one given how close it is to a major human one. We're just far too small right now. When we can be called an actual civ we might be able to do it. The gobo our out of our weight class right now.
>>
Rolled 2 (1d2)

Okay, so scouting out the goblins for now with the Wildforms, and either gathering resources or researching magic? I'll roll a 1d2 to decide.
1 - Gather wood
2 - Research offensive magic
>>
>>36822933
Exactly. We're just a ramshackle empire of fucked-up-ness now, a conflict is something we simply can't afford. Another reason to get them on our fake-good side with trade.
>>
>>36822954
it'd be hilarious if Octavia gets more dangerous in a fight than Mortus. Seems like he couldn't do much once mortify was spent. Octavia being able to chain together spells in combat for actual AoE sweeping.

>>36822975
Yeah we have lots of gold, goblins love gold we can have our Normal Leonin buy supplies off them for building. We just didn't have any normals free at the moment.
>>
>>36822975
Well, direct conflict is something we can't afford. But sneaky magic is how we won this town. Could improve on that and try again. We just need to agree on the best method. Personally I think poisoning water wells was overpowered in the middle ages. We can use it here. Shamans will always be a soft counter though but if they do even uncover it there's no reason they'll trace it back to us if we're sneaky enough.

Undead animals are the perfect carriers by the way.
>>
>>36823007
Man, we're growing Octavia to be the scourge of the world. If we manage to keep it up, once she's sixteen she'll wreak havoc on entire nations with just a couple of spells. I can't wait. Also yeah, let's buy stuff from them. We need it anyway, trade it's better than mining anyway. What are we, goddamn dwaves?
>>
Aight, writing to research offensive magic, and have the Wildform leonin try and open trade with the goblins with a good bit of gold as wager.
>>
>>36823020
Yeah, that's what I thought. Apparently (Gm dixit) we need to contaminate the water sources ourselves to make the plague spread. I'm all for it if we can, but the risk is just too high at the moment.

>>36823020
We'll work on that too, right now we're just trying to catch up from what we lost. But I doubt we can fully dominate a ten thousand pop civ without them getting a hard counter for it. Gobbos aren't dumb.

>>36823061
What? Wildforms just scout for now, we need the normal to do this wildforms would whiff diplomacy. Normal diplo, wildforms(BloodHunters) intimidate.
>>
Rolled 21, 35 = 56 (2d100)

Your wildform leonin have grown more intelligent over time, and despite their feral appearance are near equal in intelligence to regular leonin now! More pressing on your mind, however, are the goblins of the south, those that killed your old master. It's time you found out just what they were up to.

You send the 12 wildforms out, with several crates of gold, to visit the Iron Hills and see what has become of the former servants of Ckakat.

Meanwhile, you think it'd be wise to learn some offensive magic. Entrancement and Enthrallment is great and all, but it won't stop a charging soldier. Usually.
You cloister yourself in your study, poring over texts of ancient battles and the dark magics of Lich-kings and deathspeakers.

>61/100

The deathspeakers, in fact, catch your attention specifically. You always were fond of singing and more 'passive' magic, and their methods of instilling sudden death in listeners could be very useful indeed. But the texts are minimal, so you're forced to improvise.

After a time, you believe you'll be able to, by reciting the written scripts, instill first madness and then brain death in select listeners of your evil dirge. It takes time, however, to sing and prepare. You'll likely only get one shot during battle until you get more practice at it.

>Gained skill: Deathspeaking.

I was wanting them to avoid seeing the wildforms close up. Any shaman worth his salt can see their tampered with leonine up close. Scouting them from a distance means they see some weird new bipedal creature up close telsl them, "hey there's another necromancer asshole around here like the guy who killed our king, and he has gold! Lets go and kill them and take the gold!"
>>
>>36823344
Not sure if 35 is war yet. Maybe more on the lines of "shinies ours, that guy's skull too! furries run or yiff in hell! rakanitu!"
>>
>>36823396
Hey OP, could you put "cast sigil" under personal actions? We forgot to last thread and it might come in handy sometime
>>
>>36823304
You idle about the village, checking on the progress of various activities, when you hear a cry from outside the gates.

>35/100

Two wildform leonin rush into the town from the south, their forms more ragged than usual and one bleeding quite a lot from his side.
They shout something about a goblin attack, about their gold having been taken, and the ire of the new chieftain.

You try to make sense of their semi-sapient ramblings, and discern that your attempts to woo the goblins into trade with gold did not go well. They attacked your party, stole their offered gold, and nearly killed all of them. Diplomacy with these greenskins was a hard enough goal, you're certain now that it's impossible!

>Lost: 10 Wildform leonin, 8500 money's worth of gold.

My advice is, we take the savant Leonins out of their tasks (at least six of them) and we make them carve wigils of insanity nearby the Goblins' base, if possible. Alternatively, we ourselves go into their fucking water supplies and plague them up real good. Either way, the hunters should continue to bring up corpses so we and our two pet necros can raise them up. Let's destroy the fucks.

>>
The sigil list, as needed:

>Sigil of Insanity - when inscribed and activated, will cause 1d100-20 of attacking force to suddenly go insane. May cause latent insanity in townsfolk. One time use.
>Sigil of Flame - When inscribed and activated, creates a Wall of Fire around the sigiled structure for 1d3 rounds of combat. One time use.
>Sigil of Ash - When inscribed, allows the creator to cloak the structure and its inhabitants in a thick cloud of ash, harmless to the user but making attacks difficult if not impossible. Can occasionally release gouts of ash in the area when underused.
>Sigil of Strength - When inscribed and activated, causes all nearby servants of the creator's choice to go Feral. Warning: effects may not be temporary and persist after combat.
>Sigil of Purification - When inscribed, blessed, and activated, will consecrate the sigiled structure, protecting it from elemental or infernal attacks or manipulation. Warning: You're pretty evil, so using this will be a little difficult.

Also worth noting - the gladebucks we raise are hollow, lacking meat since it's been eaten. They're not the best fighters out there.

>>36823590

>>
>>36823734
Honestly I expected worse since we sent our blatantly corrupted and tainted minions to talk with them. Kind of expected them to just kneejerk attack us after that. There was a reason I wanted to wait until our normal were free for trading instead of the wildforms. Sending the wildforms was doomed to failure at the concept due t their low intelligence and corrupted form.

>>36823748
Add them to the unit list please.
>>
>>36823689
Forgive me, mistress. I now know that further attempt to contact the wretched greenskins are doomed. My focus is our betterment.

>Inscribe Sigils
In light of recent events, I feel that Octavia should engrave Sigils of Insanity in the area surrounding our cities - mainly southwards an nortwards, on the plains (or monoliths), as to not harm or populace. Sure, sigils far away from our main holds may be somewhat ineffective, but we don't want to corrupt our now dwindling populace of Leonins

>Research (Octavia)
I was wondering, could we reasearch the monoliths themselves? Knowing we're near elven ruins, maybe they were built by the elves and could hold secrets or could provide us with some defense
>>
We should send some more patrols into our known surroundings and see if they come up with some smaller villages or encampments.

Our only known enemies seem to be Sirren and the Goblins of the Iron Hills. Both of whom could flatten us into raspberry jam. Converting or razing another village seems well within our weight class right now. Even if we have to travel a ways to do so.
>>
>>36823771
Yeah, that was why my original plan was to send the savants we used for research instead. Oh well, shit happens. Let's rebuild from here.
>>
Alright, 3 votes for sigils, 2 for those of Insanity, putting them on the monoliths sounds like a good idea.
People also seem to want to explore to find other villages and potential elven ruins?
>>
Are there any more friendly villages out there like leonin and our starting village in a reasonable distance? Instead of bashing our heads against a warlike tribe we could just waltz into a village and take over it.
>>
Don't you think those statues in the elven ruins could have been tombstones? They had dates of death on them, maybe we could try to raise some elven bones?

Also, since we learned death speak now, for practice and gathering corpses, we could go out with the hunting parties and sing some animals or nomads to death.
>>
>>36823846
I think your counting Raiiel twice but whatever, Scout for other villages and ruins, Also research and strengthen our thought plague

It might be worth spending a couple of turn methodically looting and exploring the ruins with all of our minions, while Octavia tries to raise the dead there if any still remain.

Your recent experience with the Goblins has gotten you far more concerned with the world outside your village. You send out the 20 ghouls and 2 leonin out to scout the northwest, looking for new towns to conquer or align with.

As they leave, you decide to instill some protective measures around your current residence. Recalling the sigils you had studied previously, you head out with a couple guards and begin etching the Sigils of Insanity across several monoliths closer to your town. With a word from you, they could now activate and send waves of madness through any troops unlucky enough to pass near them.

As you return to the camp, so to does the scouting party you had dismissed hours prior.

>70/100

Jzarna bows before you, and smiles with an apparently successful mission. His party has discovered two nomadic tribes wandering the savannas as their yearly paths dictate. One is that known to the leonin as the Galadi, a human tribe that travels lightly, but boasts a population of about two thousand people, with sheep being their primary herd animal.
The other is the Nele, another group of leonin who, rather than settling as sedentary hunters, travels with the larger bison through the northern reaches of the savanna. They are less numerous, only about seven hundred in number, but you are more used to their kind and how to rule them.

Thanking him, you head to bed.

So, while we have some down time, what do you guys think we should do about the human nomads?

Are we better off turning them into hamburger so we can make more undead? Or do we want to make them the new sentient workhorse of our civ and try to set up and animal/agricultural situation?
>>
These new tribes intrigue you, and they seem rife for manipulation, even conquering. For now, though, you'll just talk with them.
You send out the 12 leonin scouting to begin negotiations, giving them a few satchels of gold in case such impetus is needed.

As they depart, you think that this lair will be a good retreat in case of attack. As such, you inscribe several sigils of ash on the entrance. They'll keep you concealed during any attack, but when ash is discharged other times, you'd better hope no one is in the tunnels!

Finally finished, you brush dirt and ash off of your sleeves and go to meet the returning expedition.

>56/100

The leader of negotiations brings good news: the Galadi are interested in trade, and even alliance, with the leonin! They have recently been harried by Sirren soldiers, and a sedentary ally with lands of its own, they say, will be useful to have.

The Nele, however, were unenthusiastic. They spurned offers of trade and gold, and their long standing grudge against the sedentary tribes of leonin will make alliance difficult. At least they're not terribly hostile, though.

It would be better of course to enthrall them, we just need to make a low risk, high reward plan like when we enthralled the leonin. What technologies do the Galadi have that we could use? Do the nomads have blacksmiths to teach us smithing? Probably not. We could use armor for our soldiers. Maybe they know their way with herbalism and some interesting plants. I suppose we want knowledge. Maybe some sheep for sustainable animal husbandry as our numbers are going to increase.

Hide the undead in the caves, toxic gas can't kill what's already dead. Send the wildform out to the ruins, have them set up a basecamp.

Why don't we enthrall Nasrin?

>>36826738
We could offer to employ some of their skilled tradesmen at a good wage, and pay a generous tribute to the nomadic tribe's leader as a gesture of good will. That way we learn some new skills for our thralls and also earn some brownie points with the nomads.

With Nasrin present, you quickly decide to hide your less 'presentable' creations for now. Ordering the Wildforms to go and clear out space in the jungle ruins, you dismiss them. That should keep them occupied for at least a week.

To the myriad of zombies, you recall those idling and on patrol and order them to, uh, 'guard your underground lair from moles'. They do so dutifully, and the streets are now free of ghouls.
Likewise, you lock up the moratorium for the time being.

With the place looking a lot more presentable, you invite Nasrin back to your residence to discuss future plans with the Galadi. He agrees, and comes with you.
Two leonin guards follow, but you assure Nasrin that they follow you everywhere, for safety.

Once seated, you begin to talk idly with Nasrin about his people's culture. Occasionally, he will mention their past submissions, and at these times you work a little mana, a tiny seed of corruption to spur such thoughts further.

>94/100

This is not only accepted, but you feel the human's mind reaching out towards your efforts. This is one born to be ruled, and you do so gladly. Your notions of alliance become more and more one-sided, and ideas of submission turn from regret to eagerness.
If his mind is any standard, the Galadi will become easy thralls.

By the time your conversation has finished, Nasrin latches onto your every word, his mind entranced by your personality and your commanding aura.

The next morning, you go to visit your newest minion. He dutifully bows before you, and you wonder what his old leader would think of the sight. You bid him tell you as much as he can about the Galadi. What goods do they have? What do they want? How many are they in number, and what do they produce?

"The Galadi are twenty four hundred in number, and three hundred of fighting capability when needed. However, we are not a violent race, war is bad for the flocks. As for trade, we don't need much gold. The metal we need is iron, for tools and for weapons. To you, we can give meats, hides, wool, and wooden instruments."

The Galadi, then, will make good allies. And better thralls. On that thought, you dismiss yourself from Galadi's room and head for your own residence.
With a typical cloistering and poring, you look over 'How to Coerce Friends and Dominate People'.

The text is highly illuminating and you, as usual, absorb the knowledge quickly. Vile methods to control the minds and emotions of those around you, but a particularly interesting part is "crowd control". Previously, your enthrallment worked only on individuals. But this text teaches you that, with the right presentation, you can enthrall whole groups at once. The limit is only how many people you can get in earshot! Of course, with more people it will be more difficult, but it will at least be possible.

We have mentioned many specifics for that before.

The Galadi want iron. Of course, you don't have any iron. And you don't want to rely on a dead civilization for gold, either. With this in mind, you call forth your loyal necrowurm. Instructed to put its burrowing to good use searching for ore or iron veins in the surrounding earth, it departs with a solid rumbling.

While it's gone, you decide that even with a larger group of minions you'll still want to be able to defend yourself, and your territory.
With some cloistering and some poring, you look through the Battlemage's Handbook.

>51/100

The guide is useful, but not terribly in-depth. Then again, what did you expect? Technically this tome should be on your age's reading level, but to you it is paltry. Still, you find it should be a good tool to teach your sapient thralls some black magic of their own.

>Gained Personal Action: Tutor (Magic)

Finally finished, you head to Ekal and return the tome. While there, you ask him to try studying mummification with his cohorts. Perhaps then your ghouls will be tougher, or at least smell better.

Iron deposits will bring you tools, and bring the Galadi to you. As such, mining will be high priority. You summon the necrowurm, as well as 20 idle ghouls. Bidding them head to the southern mines and begin excavating iron as best they can, you summon 10 of your leonin thralls. They are in turn told to go out and gather wood, as construction can not be done by magic alone.

As your minions go to gather resources, you call forth the remaining 2 leonin not otherwise occupied: Nmane and Talal. It is time, you tell them, that they learnt magic beyond that of necromancy. They nod, and you lead them to your residence.

>73/100

You decide to start them off with a simple spell - Darkblast.
The going is slow at first, their attempts to channel mana faltering when it reaches culmination. However, you remember their attempts at necromancy the other day, and an idea strikes you.
Rather than trying to use the attack individually, you tell them, they ought to try channeling it through each other instead.

The attempt is highly successful - when they worked cooperatively the spell seemed almost magnified in its power, reducing the unfortunate bundle of sticks you'd set up to a smoldering waste. This spell is quicker to cast, although it will usually only hit a small area at a time. Still, having a couple taskmages in your retinue could prove beneficial.

Finished tutoring your newest underlings for the day, you head back to the town center. The thought briefly crosses your mind that Mortas' protege took advantage of his demise. But if you're dead, it would be only fitting that someone take over for you. Still, you're far too young to dwell on that.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the return of the ten leonin you sent out into the woods.

>46/100

They report that, sadly, the Sirren are still patrolling those woods. They managed to escape notice, but trying to collect wood would have surely made the soldiers aware of their presence.
You dismiss them, troubled by the Sirren's constant meddling.

Maybe curse a location so that anything that dies there automatically becomes undead? We can set it over the entire village.
>>
>>36836543
That'd be awesome, but something tell me it'll be a high level spell. Octavia for all her prowess and gift in the dark arts is still young(like VERY young) and inexperienced.

>>36836586
Same thing, it'd either be high level ,uncontrollable(ie undead still needed tog et bent to your will and could attack you), or have a very low success rate. We'd probably need years to get it right and lots of advanced books for it.
>>
>>36836586

Isn't those kinds of spell end-game though. 'Cause we need to prepare like being in said village and doing some rituals to ensure that the spell stays permanent/ or not detected.
>>
>>36836586
That reminds me, we should raise this villages graveyard.
>>
>>36836586
I meant our living troops, it'll be a little surprise to the enemy when he gets stab in the back from the guy he just killed....
>>
>>36836628
We still haven't done that!?
>>
>>36836650
That would be a game-changer and definitely something worth researching.

It might be achievable if we get 20+ thralls trained in Necromancy and have them all channel the spell together.
>>
>>36836650

That would require some contact of some sort, right?
>>
>>36836676
Nope.
>>
>>36836682
maybe some kind of ritual and upon death it'll be activated.
>>
>>36836676
Nope, not yet. They might not even have one though.

>>36836678
Lik I said Op would be daft to give it to us at low(not even civ) level. Game breaker.

>>36836682
Kinda why I said higher level spell. Maybe when we hit full out mage we can do that right now we're wouldn't rate a full wizard.

>>36836707
We're wakedancers that'd take a long while.
>>
>>36836650

wards? like ward of undeath, where any creature that dies within the wards proximity turns to undead?
>>
Alright, back again.
Looks like we'll have plenty of participants now. I don't think a new thread will be quite needed yet.

So, any consensus/final votes on actions this turn?
>>
>>36836720
It'll be worth it though
>>
>>36836724
We should ask the cats if they have a graveyard or burial place or something and raise it.
>>
>>36836721
Good idea but it'd likely have a shit success rate til we level up more, since i'd imagine it's tied to our strength and then reduced by distance and indirect casting.

>>36836724
Collect the wood around the ruins easier to geththan the patrolled woods even if it takes longer to harvest.

If they have a graveyard raise it, if not continue to teach magic to our 2 casters and maybe Nasrin if he wants in.
>>
>>36836724
Hunt down animals!
>>
>>36836724

>Research new magics, both offensive and undead turning?

>Try to mine iron?

Also do we have any boosts if Octavia herself participates in the leonin research?
>>
>>36836749
Still wouldn't be get back up immediately and stab, and they'd be pretty vulnerable in the interim, assuming we could even raise them successfully at range without getting shot.
>>
>>36836724

Oh right, we need eye in the sky! if those undead geese are attached to scouts, it would make life a bit easier, seeing as we did not even know that sirren is still pursuing us, it would be a boon.
>>
>>36836773
Mining is already underway, and Octavia does give a boost to research (though usually the leonin research over several turns, and are currently researching mummies).
>>36836762
>>36836751
I'm slightly surprised the idea was not used before, honestly.

Seems like 2 for raising undead, and 2 for researching magic?
>>
>>36836806
Also send our thralls to clear lumber around the ruins, it'll take longer but we can use that wood to mine.
>>
>>36836778
>assuming we could even raise them successfully at range without getting shot.
I don't think you understand, it'll be like a curse. When they die they automatically start to turn were we don't have to do anything.
>>
>>36836806

That's cool.
>>
>>36836806
i like the raising undead idea. lets do that
>>
>>36836806
>Seems like 2 for raising undead, and 2 for researching magic?

Make that three, I third both of those
>>
>>36836837
Just saying that'd be high mage or archmage level necromancy there we get that we've won already.
>>
>>36836800
like he said, we'll be two steps ahead of the enemy without them knowing.

isn't our form of undead raising not suitable for automatics anyways? considering we went with wakedancing?
>>
>>36836934
we'd have to wakedance in front of them to set the condition up or place a really high level ward. Like I said we'd be a full mage or archmage to o it right.
>>
>>36836913
>good rolls all 'round
>lifeisgood.jpg

>>36836962
Set the wakedancing and flip it over to a specific tune. The magic 'curse' will play this music. Anyone who dies will fall over, then wake up to DANCE BABY DANCE
>>
>>36836990
Basically, it's still mage or archmage level necromancy to o it right without us losing control or having it activate properly.
>>
>>36836990
haha, nice.

although, it occurs to me that rather than automatic, we could just do a wider range wakedance. so, during a battle, we have a team wakedancing and whenever someone dies they immediately get affected by the dance. Of course the fact is wake dancing takes hours normally, so we would have to research acceleration methods.

Overall though, i think we are better off research ways to kill the enemy, and then just wakedance their corpses at our leisure afterwards
>>
Sirren is still a thorn in your side, even after your escape! But if they do discover you, then your meager forces won't be of much use.
You call for Nmane and Talal once more. They are the only ones besides yourself capable of necromancy, and you tell them to put that skill to good use.
They head for the burial grounds, just outside the village, to begin their task.

As you head back, a group of ghouls approaches you. Right, these must be the minions you sent to explore the swamp a couple weeks ago! They clatter and groan in a dreadfully stereotypical way, but you learn that the peak-shadowed wastes are all but uninhabited. They are rife, however, with corpses. Apparently the place was the sight of some great, ancient battle. The ghouls have brought back with them a few weapons and some armor, as well as a small totem they present to you.

The totem is carved of ebony, solid black and without a break in its form. Indents on its 'head' for a face wide in either a scream or laughter, Two pairs of thin black horns curl around its forehead and point towards you. It grasps a mirror of sorts in its carved claws.

Dismissing the ghouls, you put the totem away for now and think to your own magical capabilities. Nice though it is that the two leonin can learn spells, you'd prefer to learn some of your own.

I agree, maybe study a new type of undead, like undead mages or ghosts/banshess
>>
>>36837078
>They are rife, however, with corpses.
unholy fucking hell this is lucky! I think we should personally take a break from research and go full time necromancy to build up our forces
>>
>>36837133
yes Yes YES
>>
>>36837019
>>36837091
Oh hey, not all wizards have to have the same techniques... right. we use wake dancing, but we could get an apprentice that uses the same sorcery method as our master, which would allow for mid combat resurrections.

although that is a bit of a waste since the quality of the troops would be lower. its better to just kill them all then resurrect them into highest quality undead we can
corpses don't grow on trees...

.... a magic corpse tree would be nice
>>
>>36837133
i'd rather examine the totem first, look important. Afterwards i'd love to try and find rare corpses and items for us to use however.
>>
>>36837176

inb4 you can use said totem to channel your necromancy, and that was the reason the ancient battle happened.
>>
>>36837078
With a bit of cloistering and a bit of poring, you look over the Tabula Infernis once more. It details the ability to siphon a being's soul from its living form, in a sudden strike or over a long period.

>59/100

Of course, it is the former that interests you, and you try multiple times to recreate the techniques displayed in the tome. After a few hours, you're confident that you could excise a person's soul in a few seconds, though the process would be quite physically draining when done so quickly.

>81/100

Leaving, you find that the two leonin have raised another 43 leonin ghouls from the burial ground. And in such short time, too! Perhaps some people were just meant to be servants of evil.

Another day, more things to do!
You have 12 regular leonin scouting. 12 leonin are researching (Mummification will be completed in 1 turn). 2 Wildform Leonin are clearing the elven ruins. 30 ghouls are on patrol. 6 leonin are hunting. 20 Ghouls and your wurm are mining. 46 ghouls and 2 Chimeric zombies are idle. Nasrin is staying in the town for as long as negotiations continue, but will leave if asked.

Thralls harvest wood to set up mine(preferably from the ruins)

Octavia studies that totem.

Can we have the 46 ghouls start building physical fortifications? Also, where's all the loose earth/rock that the wurm is digging up going?

A thing I thought of was raising undead vegetation, or corrupting it the same as the feral lion people.

take all idle undead with octavia and the 2 apprentices and go to swamp. undead collect corpses and bring it to the living. living perform wakedancing together to bring them to life.

they usually lack the articulation to move properly... but maybe climbing vines can be undeadified to act as chocking and entangling mesh?

Earthworms aerate and mix the soil, replacing it behind them as they travel. Necrowurm does the same, just on a larger scale.

This, we can even make it into our advantage. As a "peace"offering with some infected food

We can use living thorn bushes for that. just plant them in the right spots

>>

right, but i am saying feral =! undead.
plant thorn bushes in a wall pattern, try to feralize them. if it fails you have an effective thorn wall, if it succeeds you have an even moar better thorn wall

So many corpses, so close by! The thought is delightful, with such a bounty you can have an army of thousands in no time! You head out with nearly fifty ghouls, as well as your two taskmages, and make for the swamps.

There, you see a bleak, boggy place, strewn with dead grey trees and eternally blighted from the sun's grace. It makes the wastes look like a paradise by comparison. Of course, such a place is paradise to a soul as dark as yours.

>98/100

The ghouls have been busy these past weeks, gathering together every corpse they could salvage (and a few they could not) and placing them on a dry bit of turf for ease of resurrection. A brief inspection suggests there are several hundred here, possibly as many as a thousand! A dozen serviles can work wonders when they need neither rest nor sustenance.

You call forth your two proteges, and set about trying to raise some of these corpses.

>52/100

Those nearest your trio begin to shiver and turn, their near-skeletal bodies pulling themselves together and trying to rise. Many are not so successful in this endeavor and remain mostly dead, but 30 of them clatter and clang in rusty armor as they stand before you.
At this rate, raising the whole lot will be a slow process. But you've got time, and now you have a steady source of corpses as well.

>Cont.

>>36837581
May have to start a new thread soon.
>>
>>36837643
Leaving the 13 ghouls to their work gathering more corpses, you return to your village.

There, Ekal approaches you once more. He says that his researchers have exhausted every resource on the process of mummification. They can now perform a simplistic mummification ritual, embalming the corpse and removing unneeded organs to make such a ghoul sturdier and also much less odorous. However, the process will not work on corpses that have deteriorated too much.
Thanking him, you dismiss Ekal.

>Gained Minion action for researching leonin: Mummify Corpses

As you sleep that night, your dreams are filled with sights of flame and screams. Your town is burning, you are being attacked! You rush outside to see horrifying undead creations, the bodies of your old friends, the friends of your parents, everyone you had known. The temples are burning, and your eyes water under the choking ash. You push through the chaos, running from the cries of the dying and the groans of the dead. A shadow falls over you, and you look up to see the vile wizard who attacked your town. Their form is cloaked in billowing black robes, etched with the insane runes of dark power and decorated with the bones of the fallen. What terrifies you most, however, is the face - it is yours.

You awake with a sudden shout, the dream still lingering in your mind.

Another day, more things to do!
