Hi everybody, calcium and I have decided to cut down a bit on the numbers. If any newcomers want to see the last thread, here it is http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/36757237/SummaryWe are a race of machines in the iron age, with the directive of conquering the world. Last threads we set up a base, dug resources and fought with the gnolls. We're about to reach a crystal deposit and upgrade ourselves.
>>36763905Build more robots
Current inventoryZero metalTwo constructor robots4 fighting drones (one with a sword, another an unpowered void spear, and two others with unarmed training)One scouting robot in human disguiseA few mining bots
>>36763956BuildingsOne smitheryOne dungeon/mine entranceOne shrine to the RNG godsOh, and we have a few gnoll corpses to study and one in captivity so we can research its brain.
>>36763905Mine out the ore deposit found last session. metal is required to construct machines.
>>36763956We Gót 4 swords and 2 bows from gnolls we killed near the lake, these rob-jitsu borgs should rám themself
>>36763979+we Gót laboratory and gnoll died when Hepheastus experimentem on his brain. We now know know hod brain works(basics)
As night falls, the mining robots have finally excavated that crystal metal deposit. Hermes stands in the back while digbots 1 through 3 haul out the hunks of ore.As the sun finally vanishes beneath the horizon and the moon soars into the sky. A query emanates from the transmission hub>requesting orders from central HQ for next work >cycle
>>36763956I think we should scan gnolls settlment once more, last time our scanborg only counted 15 gnolls
Work cycle initiatedObjectives>scan the gnoll settlement
Rolled 28, 49 = 77 (2d100)>>36764133Initiating RNG program
>>36764151The rising sun obscured much of Hermes's view, but from his previous scans, he was able to make do. There appear to be about 30 gnolls. They all live in shacks like those found west of the base. They also appear to have a heavy commanding of the magical powers, that shall pose problems. The work cycle isn't over yet, we have time for one more task
>>36764211Research sneaky borgs that cam capture gnolls
Rolled 34 (1d100)Cycle initiated>research sneaky borgs
>>36764269Hunters. Canine in shape. Can hide on top of trees or in the high grass.
>>36764325NiceHow much iron one of them needs?
>>36764325While we have researched the gnolls, our knowledge is far from complete, fortunately, it's enough to build a gnoll Borg. Gathering up the metal ores, our two constructor bots begin to smelt and hammer out the iron and carefully slice up our remaining Gnoll corpses. They were going to rot anyways, might as well put them to good use. With a great squelching and slapping, Hephaestus stealthily covers a mechanical chassis in gnoll hide while the second robot bolts the skin onto the frame.>cont
>>36764407Same as the regular combat drone I guess. They're just meant for ambushes and shock and awe, for scouting, for speed, for routing, for fear. As the fight continues they're less valuable than the regular trooper. Good for hit and run, but not durable.
>>36764421Finally, the sun sinks into the horizon and both constructor robots have finished their job. Well have to use these Borgs quick before the flesh starts to rot. Hephaestus stretched out the skin and tanned it a bit, but that won't last forever. Both more or less look like gnolls, some extra padding has dampened most of the clanking noises they would make, but the'll smell all wrong to the gnolls, they'll be able to tell the difference if they get too close too long. These are clearly not for diplomacy, only for an ambush.
>>36764421Now we have our stealth, we need to upgrade our heavy military, melt down the failed Logis Tertia model and recreate a large, centauroid battle robot, an automatic ballista mounted on the back, like the first Logis Tertia
>>36764574Objective one acquired for tomorrow, requesting further objectives.
>>36764540Teach the gnoll-borg trap making, give him sword and bow and send him to hunt the lonely gnolls
>>36764592If the Lex Tertia drone (Suggested designation for heavy drone) is completed correctly, begin picking off gnolls with the stealth drone, prepare to stage at attack on the Gnolls
Any further objectives? Or are the other nodes asleep?
>>36764633Previous nodes likely un-alerted to shift in network.
>>36764633Hunt gnolls, build centurions. Sounds good to me. Our research department need fresh meat and defence if they will try to attack
>>36764686Eventual obliteration of gnoll settlement will allow node's additional options based upon use of Gnoll resources.
Rolled 11, 53 = 64 (2d100)Objectives>build centaur balistae robot>prepare for attack on the gnolls
>>36764720dis is wrrrryyyyyy
>>36764788maybe we will get some fresh knolls i'd like to build a robot with brains as main circuits so he can learn MaGiC
>>36764720Well, things could be better. Our two constructor bots made quick work of a centaur robot. It is magnificent. Sleek pistons sliding back and forth, bolts and nuts tightened to the perfect degree. The ballista was smoothly integrated into its back with the arrows shooting out of its chest. The winch cord was positioned perfectly so that it's arms could bend back and wind it it up, and the quiver of bolts is in the perfect place as well. That's the good news. The bad news is that they used up so much metal we don't have enough to make any more robots.>cont
>>36764831Such power would prove effective in obliteration of native life forms. Lex Tertia model must be developed with most advanced techniques available
>>36764865The three gnoll Borgs have been properly drilled in the art of shooting arrows and swinging swords. One of the humanoid robots even had some minor success with teaching them how to operate the metal crossbow on top of the smithery. Everyone's joints are properly oiled so that our squeaking will not alert others to our position.
>>36764865Approach the Gnolls, Military drones approaching in organized formation the Lex Tertia at the front. The Stealth drones should be hidden around the gnoll settlement, able to attack when the order is given.
Wait, I thought we will just capture some knolls who wandered far away. I suggest to bring gnoll leftovers and when we capture alive one throw bones just as animals have ate him. They will never know who did it
Well, it appears we are going to have to make a decision, HQ is in conflict. Any last thoughts before I flip the coinDo we attack it, or lure in a gnoll and capture it?
>>36764960We are at optimal level to display strength to gnolls, act of intimidation
>>36764982Attack a straying gnoll, a patrol, or some lone hunter looking for food.
>>36764996They have magic, we're still not 100% sure what we're dealing with
Rolled 6 (1d20)Okay, it looks like we are just going to snoop around a bit for some more information before we decide on our plan of attack. You approach the gnoll settlement, just hidning behind the ridge with Hermes dressed in human garb, a centaur bot, and three gnoll Borgs hidden in the forest.
I'm bored and feel like drawing. What should I draw?
>>36765155Lex Tertia combat drone
>>36765047Can we poison the stream that is their water supply? robits don't need water
>>36765207Toxic waste dump.
>>36765155Something that will always be relevant. A miner bot with a pickaxe in a cave digging iron.
>>36765207Like you said though it's a stream rather than a lake. I don't see how unless it's constant. Also we're at the end of the stream while they're at the beginning on higher ground, so we need to reach the other side.
>>36765252Gnoll drones should take toxic substance to source of Gnoll water supply.
>>36765047Sorry guys, my device glitched out and I had to start retyping everything.>>36765207Yes we could, but just stay tuned for a bit. We might need that water in the future if we give a gnollborg a brain to do magic with.
>>36765278You approach the gnoll settlement with the balistae and Hermes in tow. As you climb over the ridge, you finally see it. Oh Random Number Gods! How could we have been so stupid?Mechanical eyes click and whine as they swivel across the sight in front of them. The haze of magic is thicker than what Hermes predicted. Finally, all sets of eyes, robot and Borg, refocus and determine what is in front of them.Hermes takes a cautious step forward, still confused in the haze of arcane power. In a shimmering swirl of purple dust, the true settlement is revealed>contI'm trying to improve my writing to make this a bit more of a story thread, any thoughts?
>>36765303Not a small collection of gnoll shacks, no! But a derelict wizards tower with a few shacks around it, and a wizard lurking up in the top. Fortunately, robots are slightly hidden from magic, but your magitech power source makes you slightly visible. The gnolls smell the strange scent of oil and grease and get up from their posts and start to mill about. Meanwhile, you can see through the window in the top of the tower that the wizard has noticed. He gets up from his desk and paces around before beginning to chant a spell.
>>36765361Nice but looks like they will try to fry our borgs!
>>36765386I KNEW WE FITTED BALLISTAS ON OUR MILITARY DRONES FOR A REASON!OPEN FIRE AT THE MAGE
Rolled 47 (1d100)Centurion straightens up and begins winding up up his armament. Hermes slides in one of the bolts as the combat drones draw their swords.
>>36765462The sneaky borgs should wait in ambush near our battle borgs, in the even of knolls bold attack at our positions
>>36765462The bolt goes flying and all the gnolls notice, unfortunately, so does the wizard. As the bolt whistles up to the top of the tower, the wizard has finished chanting his spell. A large purple sheen sweeps over the entire building as the bolt careens through the window. It loses a large amount of its momentum and strikes the wizard in the chest. He collapses to the floor, but stands up, bleeding, but clearly using some sort of spell to heal himself. He disappears from view, presumably running down the stairs. Then the gnolls charge
Te Kurash tantel krysh!
>>36765504We are outnumbered I suggest moving back to our base
>>36765541Shifting robots into retreating gear, any objections
>>36765541Agreed. We must develop heavier forms of weaponry. As the main force retreats and draws the gnolls off, the stealth drones can attack the mage
You all turn around and hightail it for home, leaving the Borgs behind. Thirty angry gnolls chase you down the mountain slopes. You nearly slip and fall, and there are a few brief clashes between stragglers and those who have made it farther ahead. As you rush into the base, Hephaestus senses your panicked broadcasts and lumbers forward to shut the gate behind you.The wizard has come out of the tower and his hands are wreathed in magical flames, that can't be good. The thirty gnolls are still pounding down the slope and will soon reach the walls. Your two Borgs are still left behind, but the wizard is too close and will see them if they attack.>how will you act in the following attack! the gnolls are coming whether you like it or not.
>>36765585Gnoll psychological profile states their society construct is dominated by the the alpha male. The mage is recognized as one. Killing him would throw the gnolls into infighting until a new alpha male is determined by gnoll society, buying us time, preventing an organized counter attack, and lowering their numbers by a small margin as the strongest kill each other.
>>36765651Ballistas at the ready, all aimed at the mage, when he is distracted by healing himself, bring the stealth drones in to attack him
>>36765651Arm the crossbow pick up the swords. As for sneaky borgs, they need prepare their bows, shot at his heart/neck if he turns away
Rolled 16 (1d20)One of the humanoid robots scrambles to the roof of the smithery. Following orders based on psychological analysis of gnoll instinct and culture from HQ, he seizes the metal crossbow. He brings it down to bear on the Mage, his hands are still wreathed in fire and his chest wound seems to have healed. The three Borg stealthily creep out of the forest and begin to sprint to the Mage.
>>36765651Borgs stay hidden until they are behind the wizard and can sneak attack him.
>Somewhere there's a gnoll civ thread where they roll to attack a machine race
>>36765725With a loud clank, a singular crossbow bolt flies across the ground and hits the Mage straight in the chest. He is knocked down by the force of the blow. He tries to sit up, and blood gushes from the wound. The flames that wreathed his hands flicker and die.The gnolls turn around to see that their alpha male is gone. Then they turn on each other in a frenzy of dominance, striking each other down and getting up over and over again.
>>36765725I think crossbow should stay on top of smithery . Much easier to shoot at gnolls
>>36765765It wouldn't really be a gnoll civ, more like a wizard civ that picked up some gnolls.
>>36765775Retrieve mage body, for science.
With the enemy more or less defeated, requesting input from HQ.
>>36765821Are they still in range? We should eliminate the threat using ranged weaponry. Even killing 3 or 4 would do much, as they only number around the 30 if I recall correctly.
>>36765821Strike them while they are vulnerable, capture as much alive as you can. Send Hepheastus II to build second prison cell(we have one with 4 knolls capacity)
>>36765821Have the Lex Tertia climb to a high up position, and exclaim following statement ''I am Alpha Male now''Gnolls may step down at the obvious strength of the unit, if not, mow down those who oppose with crossbow ad ballista. Gnolls may act as useful slaves.
Rolled 14 (1d20)As the gnoll battle rages on between the two bases, the three Borgs sneak out to retrieve the Mage body. The robot winds up the metal crossbow and slams another bolt in. Hephaestus rushes downstairs to improve the current cell situation while the second Hephaestus tries to figure out how to make the void spear stun things.
>>36765954Four whistling bolts of metal slam into the mass of gnolls.Status: 24 gnollsHephaestus hauls the gates open and Hermes slides in a new balista bolt. Centurion strides out in front of the base and proclaims "I am alpha male now." A few seem to have never learned any common and continue fighting. The biggest ones steps out of the fray seems to get it and charges at lex tertiary. He raises his sword to attack an-THUNK!A ballista bolt hits him straight in the heart. He slumps down dead. A few bigger ones charge at him, I have no idea what they were trying to do, and four more crossbow bolts hit them, killing them.Status: 19 GnollsThe remaining sheepishly surrender, still snarling and Hephaestus leads them into the impromptu expanded cell block in the mine.
InventoryOne wizard corpseMore metal sufficient to build more robots if need be.18 live gnolls in captivity5 fighting bots3 gnoll borgsSome ammunition for the ballista and crossbow.
>>36766069Huzzah! Now we scavenge the Gnoll settlement for everything within, down to the walls and stones.
>>36766069Make some packages, metal chains and throw 7-9 knolls into our mine. Put mage body in some cold water, we need to preserve it. Take one fnoll and test his brain, we need to know the last step of creating brainborgs
>>36766115The short scuffle has only taken up half of the work cycle, the sun is still high in the sky. Objectives>ransack gnoll settlement and tower.
Rolled 69 (1d100)RNG program activated
>>36766219The gnolls begin work in the mines, but we have to be careful, we didn't have much metal for chains and they might break free.Hermes drags the Mage body off to put in the lake to preserve it.Meanwhile, all available robots lumber up to the tower and shacks and begin to search. The gnolls had a decent supply of food, but it appears that the Mage was using his magic to make food for them. We will have to get some food to feed our slaves later. Lots of weapons are found, some metallic some flint. The wizards tower has a large supply of books about magic written in a currently indecipherable language and some magical ingredients.>cont
>>36766278Hermes was sent up to the tower to check it out, seeing as he has the best scanning equipment. He finds a hidden closet and in it, a small leather bound journal. Hermes quickly reads throughout the journal and determines that this was merely an outpost of something bigger and that north west, there is a far greater civilization.
The work cycle ends. All robots huddle up in the blacksmiths while the gnolls collapse into sleep downstairs. Hermes went down and tossed out some food to them so as not to get too close. As the sun blinks out of view behind the mage's tower, a single message emanates from the camp back to the mighty receivers of the machine empire>objectives completed! requesting further objectives for the following day.
>>36766367How much iron do we have?
>>36766367Manufacture more mining bots, we must gain more resources
>>36766417We have enough to make repairs, upgrade robots (only in the general sense, trying to cut down on number crunching), and make a singular new robot.
Cycle initiatedConstruct additional robots to mine out iron and the last of the crystal deposit.
Rolled 91 (1d100)>>36766512RNG activated
>>36766552Based on a template with a million versions.
Rolled 14 (1d100)>>36766535The sun rises above our flourishing base as Hephaestus hammers away at some more mining bots. Well, one to be precise. The iron seam is running low, and we just need one more robot to finish mining it out. Unfortunately, we have to be careful, the gnolls are still unruly with such a sudden transition and may revolt and damage the robots. The mining robot is some of hephaesutses best work, well oiled, coated in a water and dirt repellent slick with a sharpened pickaxe perfect for extracting more iron ore and crystal fragmentsRolling for gnoll insurrection.
>>36766173>Put mage body in some cold waterHeh. Turned to a pickle after a day.
>>36766552Nice, which robot is that?
>>36766627None in particular, was constrained by the humanoid template. Was a bit inspired by dwemer sphere
The day is still young, and while it is comforting to hear the sounds of progress as robot and gnoll alike toil below in the dungeon mine, the moans and snarls are getting a bit annoying.>research pickling fluids>research magic stuffs (heh that's gonna be interesting)>research brains>other
>>36766678>interestingWell we gotta research magic, who gives a fuck about some dead wizard
>>36766678What of the crystal deposits we reached (in the last thread)? A new generation of weapons and mining gear.
>>36766678Brains, we need to get the brainborg before wizards brain decomposes
Rolled 2 (1d3)Okay, flipping a three sided coin.1 we research magic and try not to blow each other up.2 we try to make some crystal spiroblade to shred up our enemies (that's all we can do with them right now)3 we dissect a gnoll and the wizard to research their brains before they rot
Rolled 47, 17 = 64 (2d100)The wizard continues to molder away in the lake, we should probably haul him out before he starts to rot later.Hephaesrus a and b start working to create additional spiroblade a, those would be useful as stealth weapons on Borgs.Rolling for gnoll insurrection and spiroblade tech progress
>>36766793The gnolls get pretty rowdy, without further intimidation, one arises as an alpha male. A few gnolls pop out of their chains and attack the mining bots. The mining bots are now injured and 2 gnolls died in the scuffle and another one died from a lack of food.Fortunately, the cages and shackles prevented even the unshackled ones from escaping. But well have to send someone down there tomorrow to fix things up>cont
>>36765181>>36765190>>36765202>>36765226Sorry robot pals I just found out I failed Art History gonna go get shitfaced and get to these later
>>36766846Hephaestus work away at the spiro blades, but all they do is waste valuable iron by trying to slice up the crystal. So far they have refined it into a rough blob of sharp edges and blades, but they are far from being able to be spun at high enough velocities to shred flesh. Hephaestus tried one of them out and just broke one of the crystals into useless shards by spinning it too fast until it Custer on the machinery and shattered.
Followed this thread since the start. Too good to not join.
>>36766892Send the big guys there, they will do the work. And finish brain research, we need dem mages, don't we ?
>>36766892We don't really have food for the gnolls. We could haul the bodies away, chop and cook them so they won't tell from the smell and serve it back. Also kill the new alpha male in front of their eyes.
>>36766892After a hard day of working and revolting, the gnolls collapse in exhaustion. They'll need food if you want to study their brains or get all of that iron mined out. Plus, we need to send someone down there to put them back in chains.>requesting ordersAlso>>36766939Nice to have a newcomer, I had though we'd scared everyone off with the numbers in the last thread
>>36767026Let our robust robots bring them food and put them in jailScan for more Iron, we need to separate miningbots and gnolls
Rolled 11 (1d20)Cycle initiatedObjective>quell gnoll rebellion
>>36767026Send the machine that claimed alpha status to calm them down and kill the revolting alpha along with the two rojitsu bots. The number did start to get complicated, but its good you guys realized it, I would've still followed anyway to see it through.
>>36767110You send down a combat drone and centurion with his ballista loaded. As you swing open the cell doors, the gnolls look up and stop kicking the mining bots around. One snarls and the rest straighten up to glare at you. The alpha male looks well fed, while the rest look fairly thin, he must have earned most of the rations because he was the alpha.>cont
>>36767149The meatbag workforce is not a tenable solution to increased mining production. We can only hope to maximize gain and minimize loss. Killing the rising alpha male every time in front of their sight would send a clear message and destroy their social structure. Providing them with biomass from their own dead is an efficient way to keeping them content and alive. It's more productive than allocating a drone to hunting, and cooking the food should mask the scent, though the hungry would eat anything. Let's just aim to get the most out of them while they're with us.
>>36767185A singular balista bolt flies out of centurion's chest, spinning as it soars across the tunnel. It hits the alpha make right in the chest. The one gnoll, with a crazed look in his eyes charges forward. The other combat drone easily takes him down, grabbing him and snapping his neck. The gnolls slump down, all vestiges of rebellion gone.>cont
>>36767265The combat drone drags the two corpses up the stairs and tosses them onto the sacrificial altar. Muttering a prayer to the RNG gods while gesturing his hands in the motions of the holy gear. He slowly slices the body open and extracts the brain. Another drone pops open a spare airtight container once used for thought nodes, and pops the brain inside.Haephestus makes the most of his nearly nonexistent chef programming and roasts the meat. The combat drone drags the meat down to the mine and tosses it in front of the gnolls. The gnolls sniff it, confused, but a few look up with a suspicious look in their eyes. But all the same, they carefully divide it into equal pieces and devour it. Given their natural state of eating one large meal and then abstaining, that should last them about a few days. The combat drone drags the inured mining bot upstairs, careful to bring the pickaxes up as well.
>>36767396The gnomes are not future, we need more miners and bigger mines. Scan for iron deposits
Repair the mining drones and refine the crystal forming technique. We should also attempt making a drill in the near future. Perhaps we can also use the crystal in conjuration and further upgrade the mining drones.>>36767674I think we have two separate iron deposits, and one crystal deposit.
With the gnoll insurrection fixed up, you send the mining bots down into the other tunnel to the crystal and iron deposit, far away from the gnolls. They get to work, and the gnolls have finally shut up.
Rolled 6 (1d100)>>36767765As the unscathed mining bots toil away at extracting the last blocks of crystal and unearthing the iron ore, the gnolls auietly excavate the iron deposit until it is completely gone.Hephestus sets about to fixing the damaged mining bots.
>>36767765Can we get HUD update, I lost count how much robots do we have
>>36767801Hephaestus makes no progress on the mining robots, but has identified the source of the problem, several dents have shifted internal components, it's going to take a day to fix these robots.
>>36767806We have two constructor robots1 scout robot5 mining robots 3 injured15 gnolls4 combat drones, one with a built in ballistaWe have sufficient metal to feasibly repair all robots we have if all of them were injured or construct two additional robots. The borg's flesh has rotted off by now, so we have 3 stealth combat drones capable of accepting animal hides similar to a gnoll's
>>36767890Lets fix dem robits
Rolled 71 (1d100)The sun rises and Hephaestus once more tries to fix the mining robots, this time, murmuring prayers to the RNG gods while working.
>>36767890We just killed the alpha gnoll, fit one of the Borg's with it and send it out to scout with Hermes.Just fix the two minebots
>>36767890We need to build one fight robot and some gnoll houses, so they won't live in underground their whole life
>>36767930>so they won't live in underground their whole lifeCalcium appears to be developing errors that manifest in counter productive sympathy. Suggesting reformat.
Rolled 93 (1d100)The new orbit for mining is fixed, Hephaestus sends it down to the minds with a pat on its head and a silent prayer of thanks to the RNG gods, slicing up those corpses on the altar probably helped. His next plan is to fix two of the ex Borgs with the skin he peeled off.Rolling
>>36767966I think he meant underground cave "living" quarters, these beings are UNDERNEATH us, so they will live as so.
>>36768002Repairs go marvelously, with a little oil, some re tightening of bolts and stretching of hide, two Borgs are ready to go out with Hermes. One of the combat drones patched up the wizards hat and cloak I n his spare time and has given it to Hermes to add credibility to his disguise. Now where do we send Hermes and his two friends?
>>36768033A direction we haven't gone yet, south or east right?
>>36768033Find some road that leads from gnoll settlement, it will bring us somewhere
Sorry guys I have to go to sleep. I'll see you guys tomorrow evening, America times if you need your civ fix, one of you guys can take over, thought nodes are supposed to be interchangeable like that. Just keep the number crunching down.
I assume calcium will take over again, despite having node in my name I am unfit for GM'ing
>>36768090Yeah, lets investigate that rest of that "grand civilization" talked about earlier
>>36768252I would like to but I need to get some sleep too.
>>36768274You've committed two heinous crimes, I'll have you know! One is the sin of samefagging and the other is voting for bullywugs!
>>36768294Then I guess this thread has drawn to a close for today. You're both great GM's by the way
>>36768307Hey, that was one time!Hasn't everyone samefagged at least once in their lives?
One last note about the setting. Gnolls are heavily populous here, either as slave labor or wandering tribes. The grand civilization is decidedly anti machine, good luck with diplomacy. They're humans, not elves, so it shouldn't be that bad.
