Welcome to the XLVIII installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole. It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog. It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Disney+Villains+Victorioushttp://1d4chan.org/wiki/Disney_Villains_Victorious

>>36551716A 20 TN attack to dodge is about an average lackey punching you. A full pound of TNT is a lot tougher to shrug off than that. Also, that doesn't take distance into account. Furthermore, that model severely underpowers explosions. Standing in the middle of 100 pounds of TNT is going to KILL YOU. The way we should balance explosives isn't by making them unrealistically weak. Instead, they have three factors balancing them.1. They are hard to obtain (GM gets to control how much explosives the players get, if any)2. You have to move them into place. Wiring up a building takes both time and a Mechanics or Science check. Add the fact that carting large amounts of explosives would require a cart or a vehicle of some kind that isn't necessarily very subtle.3. You have to be out of range when they go off, or die gloriously or have a force fieldThese factors balance explosives on their own, and making a pound of tnt weaker than a good punch is just wrong. Explosives should be able to kill real enemies, not just cause a strike, and be able to bring down buildings. That really is not enough.
>no rules for playing a kangarooCan someone do that while I fuck off for a bit?>>36552265Ah, a villain that is best beaten socially. Might be cool.

>>36551267I need a reaction image of just Genie's face.>Just get on the carpet.
>>36552504That still doesn't make the fact that you need exponentially increasing amounts of explosives to do more damage make sense. I say let the TN of surviving an explosion be up to the GM on a case-by-case bonus. It has a complex set of things that come together to form an outcome, and it's the only way to keep things both rules-light and semi-realistic
>>36552461If he doesn't work for Slim then Slim will YODEL-ADLE-EEDLE-ADLE-OOO Blue all the way to the slaughter.
>>36552265Well, now someone absolutely needs to stat up John HenryIf nobody does it, then I'll do the job. But first I gotta watch the story of Paul, this is the first time I've heard about him

This is all my opinion.>>36552265What nation is little Paulie a Villain for?>>36552338>100 pounds of TNT will kill youYou underestimate how hard it is for Disney Protagonists to die in circumstances that aren't an epic sacrifice to save the world/true love.
>>36552820....No, not really, I don't. I'm not from the US, y'seeAlthough I can think up, and yeah, this is definitely not a guy to be fucked with
>>36552338>katanas are underpowered in d20This isn't simulationist. this is narrative-based.
>>36552866Paul is from the Wild west
>>36552866>You underestimate how hard it is for Disney Protagonists to die in circumstances that aren't an epic sacrifice to save the world/true loveDon't forget gravity. Gravity has claimed more Disney villains than the heroes have.
>>36553037A Disney Hero actually killing anyone on purpose is super rare. They just continually accidentally push them off buildings or let them die in symbolic and meaningful ways that totally aren't their faults.
>>36553095Speaking of Villain deaths, we need to establish good, satisfying Disney styled villain deaths cause just saying the heroes stabbed him/her/it to death isn't too satisfying or Disney. We do have wiggle room though based off of the brutality that were the deaths of Shan Yu, Clayton, and Scar. I imagine lots of falling.
>>36552900This isn't weeaboo love of a specific weapon, just the idea that 5 sticks of dynamite should be stronger than a lackey's punch. Saying that it isn't simulationist doesn't mean that we should let explosives all be firecrackers. Giant explosions aren't inherently simulationist, and I just think that bringing down a castle on someone's head should do more than one strike. I don't see what is wrong with a GM-determined TN for surviving traps or explosions rather than a table that goes against the rules-light concept we had for the game.
>>36553141>we need to establish good, satisfying Disney styled villain deathswut? why?
Okay, so I just saw Paul Bunyan's disney shortHow faithful to the original tale was that? Also, funny thing, it was really similar to John Henry's story, too. Man Vs Machine. Except one won and died and the other one lost but lived

>>36553228Literally explained it in the post if you keep reading. Not necessarily establish the deaths themselves but a very high standard than stabbed to death. I wanna see some Lions torn apart by their own pride. I wanna see cowboys crushed to death by rocks. I wanna see witch doctors dragged to hell and evil empresses permanently changed to animals. Disney deaths are dramatic and cathartic but almost never by the heroes hand and if we're emulating the movies then we should follow those standards.
>>36553299We can't really plan those in advance. They're really up to the players and GM.
>>36553299Make it so that each villain has a "Karmic Death" that can be activated before they run out of strikes.Something like, five strikes before they run out the party can burn W Points and engage the Disney Death Scene™
>>36553299I've tried my best to emulate those, but sometimes fate(and the players) have other plans. No One was dragged to hell, Herr Doktor Von Kaiser was eaten by snakes, the villain in playtest 3 was thrown off his comandeered train, etc.>>36553348each villain might be tough to keep original methods for them; There's like, 160 of them. each KING, though, should be do-able.
>>36553348That wouldn't work for kings like Beckett or Elsa though. Elsa might be a bad example since she's probably not going to be killed most of the time.
>>36552866I believe Paul was a rough rider who governed the northern frontier of the Wild West
>>36553141>>36553095>>36553037>>36553299We ALL know how commonly lethal falling is, but the DVV world is intended to be darker than the original Disney one. Heroes would still be heroes, but we don't need to make every single fight have to happen on top of a large pit so the villain can fall in. That works for a movie, less so for a role-playing game. Our heroes will be able to be darker than the standard Disney ones, because they live in a darker world. This isn't going to full grimderp "GRITTY REBOOT" levels, but they will probably kill people, or at least have that option. After all, if you don't have the option to kill, not killing means nothing. Saying "I wanna see this happen" is kind of dumb, seeing as you, as the player, are the one who makes that happen. Putting a cutscene death is just... wrong. We can have a strawpoll if you want, but players need to be the ones doing things, not just the system give them a win button at a certain point.
>>36553404Just because they're able to be darker doesn't mean they HAVE to be, though. I don't foresee characters like Jerimiah, Sverd or Lazarus beating Radcliffe to death with a rusty crowbar anytime soon.
>>36553404Not saying every villain but there should be some where they get kicked into the pit of endless despair of their own making. Making it just so that you blast Shan Yu in the face with a shotgun and win is so anti-climatic and not Disney. Not saying that you should make the villains even harder by having to use environmental hazards but there should always be the option to make a classic Disney death happen. I realize it takes extra effort on both the GM and players parts but it'd give the setting the right feel. It may be darker but that makes the karmic, cathartic death all the more relieving.
Oh, by the way I never got around to doing this during the discussion last night, but there was enough talk about Santa Anna replacing Tzekel-Kan in mexico to warrant a poll at least. So put on your voting shorts and decide the fate of Mexico! Poll Closes in one hourhttp://strawpoll.me/3118933
Im a newfag to this and I was wondering, is treasure planet going to be included? or are just going to focus on earth.
>>36553506I can't choose both, this poll a shit.I WANT SANTA ANNA IN THE NORTH WELL THE AZTECS HAVE THE SOUTH DAMMIT!
If we stat out the three Man Vs Machine american folk heroes, then I vote to give them a trait to reflect that
>>36553569Mostly Disney animated Canon, mostly limited to WWI at the latest
Heres a proposition: We fuse the Space expansion and the Future Expansion. Is that acceptable? because really, there aren't enough for two separate large scale expansions
>>36553615To me that sounds like a great idea.
>>36553615Agreed, just mix the two.
>>36553583Oh finehttp://strawpoll.me/3118984Everyone go vote again please. I will be disregarding the last poll
Just popped in to the campaign and looked at it, looks like y'all have>Comically pretty golden-hearted hero figure lkn 4 prncs>Grizzly yet caring and experienced mentor father-figure>Weary bandit-turned-saint with the group for unknown reasons - redemption? glory? treasure?>Ponderous/Mosskin willing to fill the role of spoony bard(?), inevitably causing comical love triangles with hero figure if female (seriously one of you guys needs to play someone good at music with deceit and/or intimidation, for real)>No one willing to be the smart guy>Lovable animal mascotWith some form of Smart archetype (Nerd making the butt of party jokes, utilitarian mechanic figure, female mechanic or similar figure to take spoony bard's role in comical love triangle) you'd be pretty close to a perfect fucking group, even if it was six people and not five. I think it's worth it to include every archetype plus a lovable animal mascot though, and six is manageable. Shaping up nicely.
With the idea of Santa Anna taking north mexico I knocked together this in 5 minutes in MS paint, Not entirely sure I like the way it turned out but it could work for splitting the territory. If nothing else it gives Slim a human buffer so that he doesn't have to worry about magical monstrosities on both of his borders.I could even see a cold-war type deal between him and Anna wherein they hate each other but both have bigger threats on the other side so they keep mostly out of each other's hair.
>>36553798>6 playersPlz noFive is pushing the limits of the plates I can spin. Also, I'll be deciding who gets to join later, not today. Friday, maybe? Everyone gets to wait, teeth clenched!
>5 votes in the old poll>2 votes in the new oneCome on guys I know you're still here
>>36553450>>36553493I agree that those deaths have their place, but the >>36553798I said that I was open to playing any number or roles, although I do like the idea of a music-based character. Also, we should give a bonus to Humans of some kind. Most Beast Races get a net boost of +2 to a stat with 2 +2 bonuses and one -2 penalty, so humans are kind of far behind. Suggestions to balance this? Traits are balanced between them, but we should have picked up on the attribute bonus earlier. Suggestions for balancing this?
>>36553864The party's gonna get screwed over if they don't have some sort of a Smart guy tho. They'll also get screwed over if ponderous and mosskin don't branch into a musicman charming guy of some sort.I belieb in you Nob, you can handle six players. just gotta belieeeve Pic related should be an item that Jeremiah owns.
>>36553493I like this idea, with the caveat that there should always be multiple options available. So I propose this.Villains are killable via the shotgun to the face. However, there is a second option- a classic Disney defeat. Villain climbs a high object and falls off to their death. Villain causes their own end through vicious stupidity. Villain gets mobbed by the people they have tormented.A classic Disney death should give a team extra experience points, at minimum, but also has other bonuses. What bonuses? No idea. But here's my first thought:Beating a villain in the "correct" way reasserts some of that old Disney hero magic that seems to have failed in this universe- meaning that, every time they defeat a King in the "proper" way, they make it easier to defeat other Kings! This could cause a hell of a domino effect.Pic related, this thread makes me think of this.
>>36553864Could you give us the link to the room where we can post the characters again?
>>36553913Maybe they can bring in an NPC for various smart needs
>>36553913And one Mr. Bones
>>36553918That is essentially a morality system for DVV, which we already decided against. Also, it would encourage certain people to act OOC.
>>36553913That's a cool damn lighter.>>36553947Would this actually be viable? We didn't really decide on anything for hirelings but it makes sense that we could hire people to do things if the entire party is stupid, right?
>>36553913Not doing 6 players. Combat bogs down, things get slow, etc. people are gonna have to go out of their role comfort zone. Moreover, I'm running another campaign and don't have that much prep time as a result. I'll be picking and choosing people as I see fit.I'll post the roll20 join link in a bit of nobody else does it.
>>36553993It's not a morality system, it's really more of a rewards system, but I see the point presented and withdraw my suggestion.>>36554020Hirelings should be monofunctional, perhaps? Only able to make good rolls in one trait based on archetype (a Smart hireling can't fight well but a Fighter hireling can't do social actions very well, etc.)
>>36554083Oh boy.Hold onto your butts for failing every occult and mechanics check in the entire campaign.Campaign:https://app.roll20.net/join/601097/mEiDCA
>>36554113and we should regulate them in some way other than GM fiat, so the party can't just hire an army.>>36554133Solution: Have Strong Guy roll Occult with Robustness, because Muscle Wizard casts Fist
>>36554133Likely everyone will be making new characters and the campaign group is not first come, first serve. Things will be okay. read: some people will apply but not make it. These people will be sad, but such is life.
>>36554133Also, we can have a Smart animal mascot.
>>36554190I don't know who you are, but I will find you, and I'm not sure if I'll hug you or kill you when I do.Also, perhaps hirelings are limited to one per two PCs, minimum one? That way a party of four can have two hirelings- making it not so terrible. Perhaps we can excuse it with sidekicks not being allowed to outnumber or equal heroes.
>>36554133>sverd>occult>lovable animal mascot>occult>>36554205but I've grown emotionally attached to Jeremiah, Lazarus and SverdI'll be sad if any of them aren't in the campaign.>>36554216If Knightfag wants to, I suppose.
>>36554263I linked to myself, how silly. The first one was supposed to be linked to >>36554190>>36554254A party of Five should also only have two maximum.
>>36554285One per two PCs, with a minimum of one, should mean a party of five only has two hirelings. (The "one minimum" is for one PC parties.)What term should we use, hirelings or sidekicks? I'm fine with either.
>>36554328Sidekicks sounds better and implies more character.
>>36554355I agree. It also feels more Disney than "hireling", which is very D&D in terms.

>>36555619We move.Slowly, but we move, like a man wearing irons. We've got the system done. We've got the setting mostly done. We're about to do our first campaign. It's not like we're going nowhere with this. And once my finals season is over I'm gonna start hammering at the PDF.
>>36555372You sure?I'd personally say that California should go as much to Santa Anna as possible, that is a historical territory of Mexico after all. General west Americas I think may go to Slim, perhaps a contested area as well were neither faction is really there in force or at least in much power.>>36555542I would support giving some Aurora land to Slim, quite a bit more.
>>36555683Damn right! I agree with you. We're like the turtle from fabled Aesop- slow and steady. Honestly I just kinda wanted to use that megaman pic I had lying around. :D>Captcha: 789Really?!?
>>36555619>/tg/ gets shit done a couple months lateSounds less cool than>/tg/ gets shit doneWe should absolutely stat up Radclife and Rourke ASAP, though because they're likely to be earlier encounters in the campaign than, say, Frollo or Grimhilde.By the way, is the campaign really only going to be ~20 sessions? That seems really short for our first legitimate campaign, I'd suggest making it ~30-40 at least to actually spend enough time doing a lot of different things in a lot of different places.~20 seems like it'd be too rushed to get to the end to test how everything from the fluff of every nations to romance subplots to true friendship and beyond. We'd be wanting to get to as many different nations as possible, I'd assume, and spend a decent amount of time in them. Considering how we then need to explore the roleplaying/fluff aspect of each one, ~20 sessions seems short.
>>36555766>A couple months lateNigga, we haven't even been one month into this.We only appear to be mmoving slow, but /tg/ gets shit done like nobody's business
>>36555766It depends. 20 was a guess off the top of my head. The players will likely not be visiting more than 15 regions, and will be spending only a handful of sessions in each. Also, you realize that we're doing one session a week? 40 sessions is like, most of a year. This project has only been going for a month! I am gonna need some Alameda Slim Villains, and will need Radcliffe and Roarke in ~10 sessions. Also, >romance subplotsno promises. I know players too well to be very keen on that.
>>3655586315 * 2.5 = 37, Nob.It isn't Disney unless everyone walks out with a soulmate that contrasts yet compliments their character.Villain-statting guy, your work is needed. Also all our king-statting people.

>>36555903You forget Quasimodo
>>36555903>15*2.5=37I know, I'm not an idiot. I pulled that number literally out of my ass. Also, the first session is probably gonna be mostly dicking around, helping people make characters, setting the stage, getting charatcter art for tokens, etc.
>>36555942..... Alameda Slim's kinda taking it in the ass, isn't he? he's down to like, 6 regions in total that he actually owns. It's like a reverse Cherrybomb.
>>36555903It's two in the morning here, I ain't statting no kings until tomorrow.Rourke is gonna be a tricky one, anyway. He isn't really a big combatant, but the idea is that he is ALWAYS prepared. Can I just give him a lot of equipment, and basically a power that allows his equipment to be whatever he needs at the time?
>>36555942Good lord the west is fucked up.>>36555944>Madellaine

>>36556015Grimhilde's lands are pretty stable and well-organized, she's just a good ol' traditional iron-fisted tyrant who hates pretty people.
>>36556015What I mean is that Slim just lost a ton of importance to the Aurora, which is hardly even a nation-state, and to the creation of a new power. He went from tyrant of the west to Tyrant of Iowa, basically.
>>36556083I was actually thinking of pushing the shadowlands back east a bit to free up some territory. Make Oklahoma and Kansas dedicated slim territories and have the contested territory be just on the west bank of the Mississippi.

I think that the limit of the Aurora lands should be the space between the Charred Lands and the Shadowlands.Almost as if people were trying to expand into it, but then the firebird attack just once. Then everybody got the memo and backed the fuck down, but they didn't let the Aurora get its lands backCould give Slim a little more breathing room

>>36556320It's like I don't even know you. That movie was pretty good.
Time for a KLR that nobody really asked for.King - The Queen of HeartsThe Queen of Hearts is the single most vain and short-tempered person within Wonderland, to say nothing of her brutality and bloodthirstiness. Before, the nature of Wonderland prevented anything from coming of her violent outbursts, but since Alice abandoned the it, things have grown very dismal indeed. The Queen's domain now encompasses the entire realm, and her card guards patrol constantly to enforce her flippant rules with deadly force. She expects complete compliance with every rule, especially those that contradict each other because it gives her an excuse to drag people off to the chopping block anyway. The Queen of Hearts enjoys trials and executions almost as much as she enjoys winning at games or being flattered. The only way to be overlooked is to such up the Queen as much as possible. The amount of subjects has been dwindling, however, and the Queen is getting tired of beheading flowers for loitering or fish for jaywalking. Even she has realized that Wonderland is dependent on Alice, and she is sending card guards and bizarre beasts out to the real world to retrieve her. Should Alice be recaptured, the Queen of Hearts intends to force her to repopulate Wonderland with careless subjects to continue her beheading binge.
>>36556394Land - WonderlandWonderland is a land of wonders, of course, and there is no realm with as much variation. Great forests, endless beaches and seas, corridors and mazes of all kinds, all of which tend to move around when nobody's looking. Navigating through Wonderland becomes nearly impossible to anyone without a guide of some kind. Its inhabitants still scrape by, living the lives they more or less did before, most oblivious of how horrible the Queen of Hearts can be. The Caterpillar is perhaps the only one directly opposed to the Queen's rule, though he is too lazy to do anything about it. The Mad Hatter and the March Hare are annoyed by the Queen as well due to the difficulty in organizing tea time under the new rules, though they are still too engrossed in their own affairs. Others like the Dodo, the Griffin or the Mock Turtle could be helpful if only they cared, but Wonderland is neglected as much by its mad inhabitants as it is by the Queen herself. Entering the land is a tricky business as well. The Rabbit Hole is the one stable portal to Wonderland, though the White Rabbit has no more time or opportunity to stray outside anymore, since he is constantly busy heralding every new command of the Queen. The only other link is the Cheshire Cat, who can pass between worlds as he pleases, but only appears when he cares to, and is notoriously difficult to work with. Alice knows where the Rabbit Hole is, but she has sworn never to return to such an insane place ever again.
>>36556410Rule - Every Which WayDespite the more gruesome changes, Wonderland remains as unpredictable as ever. The landscape twists and shrinks and blooms with no rhyme or reason, and can rearranged itself in an instant. Straight roads can send you back the way you came and twisting paths regularly defy gravity. Doors lead to nowhere and everywhere, hedge mazes operate on Escher physics and some other inhabitants of Wonderland can whisk you off to an even stranger area if you answer a question you didn't even know had been asked. Size is an inconstant factor as well, and players would do well to stock up on Eat Me and Drink Me to stay the appropriate size while traveling through the many strange parts of Wonderland. Players may find themselves caught up in the regular lives of the Wonderland citizens, through obliviousness more than anything, but they can cause unneeded delays. On top of all this madness, the Queen's card guards are bound to run into the players eventually, and they will be quick to arrest the players for violating nonsensical rules, or to apprehend Alice if she is with them. There are few precautions the players can make, only to keep in mind that Wonderland by its nature messes with the head, and only the slightly mad can get by.
>>36556360Maybe I just need more time to ponder the movie itself, but I just thought it was pretty shallow in comparison to most of the films they work on, which usually have some pretty decent philosophical concepts and meanings behind the plots. I understand it was based off of a Japanese comic, which might be related to it. I was pretty surprised that they didn't finalize a love interest because it's clearly what they were setting up between the protagonist and that Asian chick, especially since it's shipped in from Japan. That's just my opinion, though.>>36556394Adding to the wiki.
>>36556083Actually, I was beginning to think that if Slim just goes around doing his own thing, he might have nearly no territory that belongs to him alone, while having FUG HUEG swaths of land that is contested due to his just taking out the authorities when they show up, but never sticking around to actually set up a real political system beyond a protection racket.heck, perhaps instead of having territory he has disputed territory and maybe one region which is where his ranch is.
>>36556438>disney films usually have pretty decent philosophical concepts and meanings behind the plotsFucking english majors.
>>36556458Something like Bagheera's free creatures perhaps.

>>36556201>>36556083>>36556035>>36556015>>36555981>>36555981Okay, so here are some quick edits. I'm not going to paint up the fancy contested lines until we come to a consensus on the shadowland/wild west border because they're hard to draw. Oh and for anyone who wants to edit the map in the future, be sure to draw the contested lines with a pencil tool. Paint tool lines take forever to clean up
>>36556438I don't know, I thought that it had a good concept of using your ingenuity and wits to solve problems, to not be consumed by vengeance and to not shut people out. It was all pretty surface level, I thought, but this is disney, most of their themes are pretty surface level.
>>36556526Probably Late Friday night/Saturday afternoon. I've been coming up on finals week so I haven't quite had the time to meditate on the story, but I've got a good idea what I want to do now. I want to finish up the Wild West arc before next week, at which point I'm going to take the next week off writing for finals and start the next chapter when I'm done
>>36555903> Villain-statting guy, your work is needed.About thatNothing's gonna be statted until Saturday, maybe Friday. For you see, I'm taking my nieces and sister to Disney Land
>>36556780Try not to get v& while there.
Holy shit this expanded from that world building thread I lurked.Fucking hell guys, I leave you alone and this happens.
Hey guys, Atlantean writefag checking in again. Next chapter's coming along, should have it done by this weekend.I've been planning on a little aside--something along the lines of a "taste of things to come". Something involving Big Hero 6, San Fransokyo, maybe a bit of Tron, and maybe a bit of The Incredibles tossed in for good measure--something to speculate on what a future or modern expansion to this universe would look like.
>>36557971When we reached thread #3, I knew this project was going great places. Now we only need to finish one last aspect which we are finishing at a snail's pace and we'll have a working beta.>>36558027I thought Big Hero 6 was pretty bad too, but whatever. All fluff is good fluff.
>>36558041I liked it.I'd also like to point out that we're including Home On The Range, Atlantis, The Black Cauldron, Fantasia, and Dinosaur as movies, and Big Hero Six is better than most of those. (Fantasia gets a pass for basically being a music video.)>>36557971Stay a while, and listen!
>>36558088Yes, but those are some of the worst movies ever made. Except for Fantasia what the fuck man that shit was great. Big Hero 6 sure as hell isn't in 'Home on the Range' tier, but it's far from good. Disney is really quite hit or miss if you ask me, and I just didn't think it was that good. I think they were on-point before this though, every big animated film from the main studio for the last couple of years has been above-average at the least and really damn good at the best.
I'd like to propose the existence of a mythical boat. A boat so powerful, many who know of it consider it to be the origin of the world as we know it. This riverboat appears only to the worthy, always on every river and none until one worthy to see the Origin of All appears. They call this boat... the Steamboat Willie
>>36558164I enjoyed BH6 mainly because a more lighthearted superhero flick than most that have come out as of late. I mean yeah, it's definitely a weaker film in Disney's portfolio and doesn't exactly have the pizzazz that The Incredibles possessed, but it was enjoyable for its own little quirks.
>>36555958He still controls an area larger than the entire Mirror Kingdom. That's pretty good for a cowboy ganglord from Disney's least well-regarded 2D movie.
>>36558685Down from the entire west, that's a pretty fucking big drop in power. I mean, if we want to be picky about people who shouldn't have a lot of power but do; The EGHC, the EITC, Yzma (The entirety of south america?), Facilier (Man is severely incompetent), Roarke (Mercenary, no plans to actually rule in the movie), Queen La, Scar (He's a lion, and not even a big one!), etc. It's just a bit jarring to have this happen so late when there's actually been a decent bit of fluff written about the west.
You guys know this means we need a KLR for Santa, and we have ANOTHER king to stat. Plus five more villains.
>>36558750Why, pray tell, are we adding in Santa?
>>36558783Because CHRISTMAS, Atlantean.
Any fluff need to be fleshed out?
>>36558797Ohhh, that Santa.Does he still have a wooden leg?
>>36558924All of it, always. Try and avoid the ones with a lot of stuff on them though, the less we have on them, like La, the better for you to write something on.>>36558930Probably, i dunno
>>36558783>>36558791>>36558797>>36558930Plot Hook: Oogie Boogie wants to destroy Santa Anna because he thinks it's another Santa trying to make a new holiday.
>>36559079A group of particularly pragmatic heroes may just let it happen. It's a way to take out a king without raising their infamy among the other kings in the process.
>>36559211>not wanting to raise your infamy always>not wanting cool and personalized nicknames based off your accomplishments and victories>not wanting the peasants to cheer them every time you walk into a small mirror kingdom village>not wanting to be famous as fucknot disney
>>36559250Don't get me wrong, I agree that wanting to take them all down and raise your infamy is the best way, but if you give a passive villain kill to the players in general there WILL eventually be a party that wants to take it.
>>36559298Plus, Elsa seems to be one of the most fleshed out kings. On another note, has anybody else considered due to the frankly insane amount of kings there are and the size of the world map making a large campaign played by 4-5 different 4 man groups to liberate the world and unite it under one banner? Each party starts in a certain kingdom and has to either A. Stage a coup and take over or B. If its a friendly/neutral enough king, befriend them and move on to liberate the world. Then it all culminates with the parties meeting up to take down the big hardly touchable powers like Hades and Him.
I was thinking about Ratigan. Is he gonna be a joke boss (the problem is discovering he exists and actually finding him, In the actual boss battle you just have to step on him), or are we gonna make him a mighty social warrior?
>>36559638The best way to make him a serious threat is to make it so the players can only deal with him if they shrink down to mouse size to access the mouse-towns in his under empire, though that's a bit railroad-ey.
>>36559638>>36559692Optimally, there'd be all kinds of ways of fighting him. Barrel in full-sized and find that Frobisher left him a clockwork mecha? Shrink down and have a truly epic boss battle with a rat who's the size of a bear? Get the drop on him and squish him? All feasible.
>>36559692It's not a railroad if you convince the players that it was their idea...Or, you could just not deal with him. He's hardly a credible threat.
>>36559958>Nob doesn't care about the miceHe's still an asshole, and it is the player's job to plug up the assholes of the world.

Okay, question: could a cunning reptile be represented by high Sensibility but low Intelligence?

Hey hey;Long time lurker, first time poster. I haven't been contributing much to the general, but it's looking like you guys need some help with statting up some baddies. Anyone want to give me a direction to go in and I can stat up a baddie or two?

I want to throw an idea out: Stealth is usually Agility-dependant because it involves being careful not to step on a noisy spot, to not hit anything that might make noise, to duck behind a corner when the guard looks your way, etc. However, this "don't be seen or heard" method isn't the only way of being stealthy. There is another way often employed by crocodiles, large snakes and hunters with access to only primitive weapons. You simply move very, very slowly. So slowly, in fact, that if you hit anything it won't make a noise loud enough for anyone to hear. Combine this with camoflage, and it doesn't matter if your target is looking at you; if he doesn't know to be looking for you, he won't PERCEIVE you.Might this "don't be perceived" method work as Stealth rolled with Sensibility?
>>36566044Yeah, that would work. Or, looking for the quietest way through/most hidden way through could be Intelligence. Or persuading people that you just aren't there(a la disney) would be Charm. Really, the only one I struggle to see is Robustness. Most skills have more than one attribute use.

>>36570702But what about his freaky hulking out thing? Though I like the idea that he's mostly a social/intellectual threat, he still ought to be able to throw down once the fight comes around. He's not a master of combat like the Black King or, God forbid, Chernobog, but he should be a credible problem for a low-level party.
>>36570804He's still ultimately a rat. I support the other guys; keep him a semi-credible threat (no one can solo him), but his strength should be social/intellectual and his henchmen.
>>36570857And the cat, if you shrink down to his size, I guess. Alright, we'll arrange things that way. High social, mid intelligence (remember he's a good liar and inventor but he's not on Basil's level mentally), but only a decent threat in a fight, somebody two or three PCs could take with little difficulty.
>>36570885>>36570857>>36570804Wait, are we talking about RATIGAN, the actual rat or RATCLIFFE, the human governor of Virginia?
>>36571175I was talking about Ratigan, but got him mixed up like Ratcliffe like a moron.Ratcliffe shouldn't be too hard. He's not that great of a fighter, he wasn't that clever (being half exiled out of Britain) and just doesn't strike me as that smart.
>>36570885Yes but he's almost there, I'd say he has among the highest smarts of the characters in the setting personally.
>>36571227Just remember, he is going to have very nice equipment, and his extensive bodyguard will too.
>>36571288True. Ratcliffe should be like a wolf pack- he's not that much tougher than his minions, but there *also* not much WEAKER than he is, so it's like a boss fight as a whole group.

>>36572973I think so?I think people made two stories for him in this setting: He challenged an Atlantean-crystal powered drill to a race through the mountain, or he made a deal with Facilier that he could drive down more spikes than one of his Friends, and Facilier poked his heart with a needle halfway through. He won anyway.

>>36573111I'd gladly help you mate, but where I am now it's 2am and I'm really tired. Maybe we could try calculating the BMI of an average specimen?
>>36573111>>36573327This sounds much more difficult than a size-based size category.
>>36573327>>36573350BMI does sound like too much work. I think wee should say that anything between 400lb and a ton is Large, and anything over a ton is Giant.
>>36573460>a 1x1 tiny inch of a collapsed star is hugeretarded
>>36573460>>36573111I... don't think realism is the problem here. We're going with disney sizes for animals, not what they actually are like. Also there are humans over 400lbs, but they still shouldn't be Large.

>>36573111>>36573327>>36573460>Eric Garner would be 'large'

>>36573692Though it should be said that a player should only be able to play a character that is within one or two standard deviations of their species weight for the purposes of size categories.
Honestly, I still prefer the size-based system a lot more. Maybe we could just review Elephants.
>>36574106Yeah, let's just make a fix of one element versus an overhaul. Change Elephants and maybe Crocodiles, then the system works pretty well.
Alright, king-statting guy here.I can try to stat Radcliffe, but I have never seen pocahontas before (Yeah, I know, I was a stupid kid alright?)What do I need to know and what should I give him?
>>36574482Guns, sword, heavy armor, high charm, respectable robustness.....agility, intelligence and sensibility questionable.
>>36574482He's a fat, likeable fuck with Colonial tier equipment and a hate-on for 'lesser peoples'. He's not personally dangerous, but his henchmen should be numerous and well-trained/armed.
>>36574504Can I give him a trait that gives him a penalty to Insight when gold is concerned? All I know is that he had dosh fever
>>36574482>>36574520He's a very charming guy, capable of rallying people around him for the most part, and he's a capable fighter as well. Probably not that fast, really hates indians, really loves gold. His main strength should be in the people behind him though, not himself. Traits to add and strengthen mooks/lackeys should be there.
Should I give him Slim-level skills?Because I'm used to giving Kings 10+ skill levels but Slim only has a 10 in Music, and I think the levels shouldn't be TOO far off
>>36572973Could be to Slim if he doesn't have enough villains. Slim's driving a herd of cattle/buffalo 10,000 strong vs Henry driving a railroad to the same location. Henry won but Slim could not just let a man like Henry die so he used some exotic creature's essence to revive Henry. Gave him land to rule over and so-on and so-forth.
>>36574635They have about the same strength in general. Basing him off Slim's stats is probably a good idea, just with focus on different things.
Are colonial rifles flintlock? As in, need to be manually recharged after every shot?Almost done with him folks, just giving him equipment
>>36574981They are muskets, not rifles. Rifles are way after the 17th century, and much more advanced. They are flintlock, however.
>>36575022My bad. I'm not very good with weapon typesSo, +3 to ranged for the rifle and +2 for the pistol, but must spend one action to recharge?

>>36575248Aw shucks m8, just doin' me part.I was incredibly inactive on all the crunch discussion, so I might as well get my ass moving and contribute on the statting
>>36575189>>36575210Looking good, though I question the flintlocks. YES, they are appropriate to his time period, but Radcliffe's just sitting on a huge pile of cash and there's all these other guys with more advanced weaponry around, so don't tell me "Mother of God, I'd better acquire some of these powerful weapons before those filthy redskins do!" never crossed his mind. Now I'm not saying everyone under his command is going to have Atlantean miniguns, but I am saying that maybe Alameda once sold him a gatling gun for him to use as a surprise trump card against anyone trying to take him down, and ol' Slim threw a few shotguns in to sweeten the deal.
>>36575675>give radcliffe a gatling gun or a shotgunstupidest thing i've heard all dayDifferent regions generally stick to their own weapons. Otherwise we'd have places like the pontificate or the mirror kingdom walking around with stolen arendellian or western rifles, which is retarded.
>>36574482just watch the movie online
>>36575713Hey, I'm not saying you're going to see rank-and-file troops packing cartridges, I'm just saying a wise King takes advantage of the chronological clusterfuck and geographic proximity to acquire a few "insurance" pieces. And it's better if he's the only one in his kingdom who possesses such 'insurance'; the better to surprise anyone who attacks you.Maybe. It's not a hard and fast thing. In any event, I think Radcliffe should have something nasty he can whip out when backed into a corner. A cannon might do, but that takes a long time to reload.
>>36575844>Implying you need to reload when you can move to the one immediately on the side
>>36575844I think anon's point was that by letting Kings take the best weapons they can get their hands on, we would take away their flavor.
>>36575902Please disregard all previous statements, this is clearly the superior option.
>>36575923This.If every King has an Atlantean super laser canon of death, no one does. knowwhatimsayin
>>36575923>>36575965I never come up with good ideas this late at night anyways. Radcliffe playing Duckhunt with the PCs and a dozen cannons is clearly better than a gatling gun (which still might make a fine trump card for Slim)So, perhaps we should establish exactly Radcliffe is making all than dosh, since there's no gold in Virginia. Off the top of my head I can think of furs, trees large enough to be used for the masts of ships and slaves.
>>36576040Historically the cash crops that he could be producing are tobacco and cotton, but only if the cotton gin has been invented or otherwise it's nigh worthless.Timber is good for the northern section, there's good coal mining if the atlanteans care about that, and there's some iron in the south IIRC.
>>36576040There's no Gold, but there is an insane amount of natural resources he's canonically exporting, and very good soil for farming. Trees, Coal, Silver, Copper, etc.
>>36576098>>36576095Wait, just a thought.Since he IS the current owner of the east coast, does that mean that Paul Bunyan washed up on Virginia?
>>36576115Wait, no, better idea.Paul is Virginia's Bonus BossJohn Henry's the Old West/Shadowlands Bonus Boss, low level one, but y'knowWe did have a lot of overpowered-but-fun bosses made lately, so we might as well give them a note on the system and say that if the GM wants to have some fun, he can use those in their respective areas
>>36576115Earliest recorded reference puts him in North Dakota. Exactly who owns North Dakota?
>>36576354The Aurora, thays why I statted him as a some sort of Demigod of the Aurora. But north dakota is definitely closer to the west than the others
>>36576365Yeah, you know, that one boss that just kinda sits there doing his thing, doesn't matter to the story, but if you want to you can go fight him?And then get completelly buttfucked because they are always incredibly OP
>>36576287I'm not a regular to these threads so I'm a little confused; wouldn't Paul Bunyan and John Henry be heroes, rather than villains?
>>36576383>Demigod of the Aurora.>Giant LumberjackSo he's like a miniature Firebird, in so much as he brings the destruction that must come before there is new growth, that humans have tricked into doing their work for them?
>>36576457Certainly. It was just a silly fun suggestion, no need to take it seriously
>>36576457This. At least as an option. But whatevs because when we're done with this my group is going on a giant quest to setting find all the movie heroes and fix the damage done. It should be easy enough to throw these boss heroes in.
>>36576457We're not totally sure what we're doing with them yet, we've statted them up but haven't given them a place in the fluff.
>>36576534>>36576537Well... John Henry himself had a villain, in the form of the rail-driving machine. What would've happened if he'd lost that competition with it?
>>36576554Then the slaves who worked alongside him would remain slaves. Pretty cut and dry, that one.
>>36576554>>36576577Problem is that there aren't really any slaves. Radcliffe's society is by and large homogenous, the Shadowlands are literally run by a black dude and the Old West doesn't really even have a functioning government. The only place in America where slavery would make sense would be in the Old West, and not in a very large-scale way.
>>36576611>the Shadowlands are literally run by a black dudeA black dude that views all humans, regardless of color or creed, as nothing but dopes he can cheat, rob and sell to his Friends On The Other Side, mind you.
>>36576611I recall a debate a while back where we concluded that since animals rule over most of Africa, blacks outside of the shadowlands and the old west a little bit had either been exterminated or ran to atlantis's refugee camps.>>36576670Wait that brings up a good point. If facilier sacrificed the entire city of new orleans once, it means black got fucked over even MORE by everyone.nigs really got the short end of the stick in this setting, even compared to the fact everyone else is suffering horribly. They pretty much only exist in small numbers in various parts of the u.s., damn.
>>36576670True, but practically speaking he wouldn't do anything that would make him appear to be so much weaker- after all, if everyone else is putting black dudes under whips and chains, it's hard to take any remaining leadership black dudes seriously. He'd oppose it just to make sure that whole racism thing didn't detract from his own cred. Now he might start a slavery that's non-racist- after all, anybody can put their back into working...
>>36576711>>36576611What about those that fled to south america? The boat ride is certainly shorter. And maybe they can, y'know, not piss off the faeries or Yzma
>>36576711>Facilier, black voodoo Stalin
>>36576711He didn't sacrifice the whole city, he only offered them all of the city's lost souls. I assume this means that they rule and pick off everyone who loses their way in life, but New Orleans still exists
>>36576776>a boat ride from Africa to south america is shorter than one from Africa to atlantiswut
>>36577219TO BE FAIR; South America and the Carribean was the end destination of ~80% of the slaves in the Triangle Trade.
>>36577219Yeah, unless Atlantis is super far north, that won't be true
>>36577243Yes, but since Yzma and pirates have full control of the region, the Iberians and their slaves never got there. I mean, I assume.
>>36577219>>36577246Uh, wasn't Atlantis where Iceland is according to the map?Because depending on where in Africa you are, then hell yes South America is much closer. Pretty much anywhere not in the far north I'd say, and by then it's Jafar's land and you can live just fine
>>36577413Atlantis, as the name would imply, is in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
>>36576577>>36576611What about an area where human life, labor, and accomplishments mean nothing in the face of merciless industrial progress? Something like an industrial revolution-era factory, but an entire region.
>>36577704I don't follow you. Are you suggesting we add in an entire new king without a Disney Villain basis?
>>36577271You REALLY don't want any black people in the setting, do you?We know that New Orleans and the Shadowlands at least have a large black population, and one member or the Atlantean Expedition was black, so there will certainly be a sizable black population there, so unless you want to bring in Mecha-Hitler to take them out, yes, there are still black people in the setting.
>>36577727Hey man, it's not my fault that Disney gives all the worst fates to the blacks. We've already established that there is a decent black community in Atlantis and in the Shadowlands. I was just talking about the Americas in general.
>>36558737Why is Facilier incompetent?
>>36577793He trusts the bumbling minion WAY too much. Also, he spends half the movie sorta dawdling around Orleans, all the till the end. What exactly was HE doing while the friends hunted for the frogs?
>>36577774>Sverd == pure Aryan hero-man>wants no blacks in setting>claims that black people are just bad at not being killed.>claims that white European rulers with absolute power are the best system of government>Is clearly secretly mechahitlerMy logic has absolutely no massive gaping holes in it.
>>36577842Making sure Lawrence didn't chicken out AND didn't do anything stupid to the voodoo necklace, I'd guess. That was quite literally the only thing between him and an eternity being munched on by the Friends. If he DIDN'T pay attention to it when the guy in charge was clearly ten times more imconpetent than people claim Facilier himself is, then we'd have a problem
Wait a tick.Africa was always full of people fighting each other, tribes with warriors, vitories and defeats. What if the strongest ones were accepted into Opar under Queen La's rule? I don't believe that in the entire continent only weaklings would appear. Africa is Australia-lite. If you survive in there then you are pretty fuckin' badass, ESPECIALLY if the lions and hyenas went batshit insane. This probably means La has maybe the smallest army, but the best warriors in sheer skill
>>36577873You got me. I'm actually Hitler in disguise. My secret plan all along was to eliminate all nonwhite races through the naive and kinda stupid but incredibly good-hearted guy who hates killing anyone. My disguise was perfect!>>36577916This is a pretty cool idea. I like that there's small surviving tribes of extreme badasses that beat the shit out of leopardmen daily. La doesn't really have an army, though. Besdies the nigh-uncontrallable leopardmen.
>>36577842>>36577875Facilier actually had his shit together. The fact that he didn't go out in the swamp hunting frogs shows that rather than disproves it, as he was able to continue his larger goal while delegating the job of catching people to the shadow demons who served him and were clearly really good at it. He really didn't trust Lawrence, the only times he left him alone was when he really had to, such as when he was impersonating Naveen. He was really a very competent villain, especially by Disney standards. He didn't go after the heroes to the point of destroying himself, he didn't pull a Snow White and the huntsman and not oversee his minions, and he didn't avoid killing his enemies when they were at his mercy unless he had to for other reasons like Scar did. He was actually one of the most competent Disney villains ever, come to think of it. I have no fucking idea how you decided he was the least.
>>36577957>small surviving tribes of extreme badasses that beat the shit out of leopardmen dailyAaaaaaaaaaaaand I've got my new character concept! Also, this might prove a good starting point for a campaign in Africa where you don't have to be an animal to get a grasp of what's going on.Those tribes would certainly have their own mystics, and would know that the land is sick because some shit went down. They'd understand that they are not the rulers of that land, but instead the Beast King is. The Scarred Lion. The Shadowmane. The Shadow in the Rock. They could give the PCs information, or at least their guesses on the issue, and that could drive the PCs to go out and hunt Scar by themselves in human form in the hopes that the tribes could unite themselves and take the territory, making it a friendly area.Of c ourse, African tribes never fucking got together, but this *IS* Disney. I can completely see the end of the campaign being the PCs, through force of will, friendship and effort showing them all that they should unite against those that are *truly* evil.
>>36578053>Get together with tribe of kickass african tribal warriors to beat the shit out of La and the leopardmen, and drive the Hyenas out of the Pridelands>While the mightiest warriors go to fend off La, the Pridelands party takes the mystic with them, so he or she can figure out what to do once they take down the Scarred Shadow. That is not a land of Humans, after all. It needs a beast king.>While they are getting closer to Pride Rock, the Mystic gets acquainted with an old, hermit Baboon. They don't ever really talk, just sit there staring at each other for a while before nodding and going their own separate ways. This would make for a bitching campaign
>>36578053>>36578101And there's our sample campaign for Africa. Nice.
