Previous Episodes: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Skyship%20Crutch4Captain's Log. Stardate: Hair Past A Freckle. As I continue to make these entries, I continue to be shocked by our luck and good fortune, looking back on all that has transpired. The Droids and myself started our journey as we rushed away at a breakneck pace from the last Federation base, carrying our vital cargo; Intel on the Rebel Flagship, the centerpiece of their military strategy, The Rebels know, and have been chasing us across the universe from the start. We've crossed galaxies, blasting our way through Rebels and Pirates, and saving civilians from tyranny and danger. We're so close to the Federation homeworlds, but we're no safer than we were from the start. We'll need to be vigilant, daring, and master tacticians to make it home.
We set out in an old, rusted bucket that was, in essence, an ambulance with some tricked out rims. It was crewed by two droids before I commandeered the thing and set out. In that time, we've recruited more crewmen; Dr. Mr. Derek the Slugman-turned-Doctor-turned-Prostitute-turned-Gunnery Officer, Nikolai, the Engi Engineer who does engineering, and McHippy, the peaceful Zoltan emissary who remains blissfully unaware that our weapons don't even HAVE stun settings. The ship itself is, if not a world-class flight, an outstanding fighter. We have an amazing suite of weaponry, a suitable shield, and the Droids can slap together weaponized drones in a moment's notice. We can also use Dr. Mr. Derek's skill in subduing unruly patients through invasive mind control to temporarily shift an enemy's alliance, or subvert their own attempts at control.
We took a brief rest stop in the middle of a Slug-Controlled Nebula, and we have many options ahead of us. But the most important question is; where do we go first?
>>36361085Without knowing much about your immediate past the best I can suggest is staying in the nebula and hitting up as many events as you can on your way to the exit. The unexplored node South and West on your map is ripe for the exploring. Best of luck Cap'n.And oh wow FTL, I really need to play more than two games of the expansion
>>36361085I've been missing you Cap'n!SET COURSE DUE SPACE SOUTH! FULL SPEED!
>>36361231With no preference for destination besides Derek liking the feel of Nebular space, we flip a Spacebuck to choose where to go. Heads! We head to the SpaceSouthwestern nebula. We arrive, and spot a Rebel ship away from their main fleet; possibly a foreward scout looking for us. Should we engage, or just avoid them?>>36361378Shit, sorry, I had made the jump just before you posted with an actual suggestion. Glad someone's excited to see me, though!
>>36361460We should attack them so we can steal their belongings for maximum irony.
>>36361460>Rebel bitchs get rebel body bags. Attack.
We move in to engage, powering up the weapons! Their guns slide out of concealed ports, and...Holy shit, did they rip that gun off a Federation Terminator-class mech? Swear that looks like the minigun usually installed on a T-1000. And if it is, well, I haven't seen the thing in action, but it looks dangerous as hell. What tactics should we take?
>>36361641Unleash a combat drone and focus down the shields, holding back the Flakk until they are down.
>>36361641mindcontrol the weapons system guy. ion and flak on shields. then hull lazer on emtpy room. flak on weapons when shields are down.
It really isn't a challenge to utterly destroy these guys; they must've been sent on some kind of suicide mission. Or the Rebels don't know what we're outfitted with; that's good. They're offering to give up, but I note that their FTL engine is charging up, most likely to report to the Rebel Fleet exactly what we're kitted with. Should we let them go, and see if they flee, or wipe them out?
>>36361813how far away from that store are we?
>>36361813Yeah too far from the store. take it we need the fuel.
>>36361898We could get there in three jumps, but I don't think we actually have the fuel to make those jumps.
>>36361964yeah, like i said not enough.
>>36361813Need that fuel.Oh and their mini gun? Slow to start up but can solo the flagship
We take their deal, and tell them not to report back. And they power down their engine, actually! Apparently the captain of this ship is pretty okay, for a bigoted spaceracist Rebel bastard. With our new Pile 'O Fuel, where should we go next?
>>36362078We probably got all their fuel, cap'n henderson.Full ahead space south east!
We warp to the SpaceSoutheast, and see them jump away at the same time. When we arrive, we see... the same ship from earlier with a paint job. We hail them. They're all wearing mustaches. Even their Engi crewmember. What the hell.
>>36362247>Show no mercy
"Look, guy. We let you go last time, but now you're just playing us for fools.""Que? No ciena la casa en la burrito?""That's offensive. Your stupidity and lack of cultural knowledge both. And, your disguises are terrible. Just, really bad. That guy still has the tag on."That guy with the tag still on turns around for a second, then whips back around with the tag in his hand. "No! No si no no no! Uh... no!"Yeah fuck these guys. How do we rip them apart, again?
>>36362490Mind control on rock guy.drone up. Ion on shieldsFlak weapons. Lazors
We're firing on them as well as we can, but their captain has suddenly become very adept; we can't land a solid hit! Meanwhile they're using their bombing weapons to do damage to critical systems, but no major structural damage so far. They disable our mind control device, and the Rockman teleports onboard! How should we deal with him?
>>36362865slug and henderson attack, make sure medical is up. have an egin repair system.
>>36362916Hinderson can't attack, he's flying the ship! Are you mad?!No, he's not afraid of having his skull caved in by this silicon-based monster, and he's certainly never not actually faced hand-to-hand combat. Not at all.
>>36362974We have medical dispersal still right? he should be fine.
>>36362974Derek is more than happy to go beat the thing's stone face off, though, and Hippy joins in, to show it some "Passive Resistance."
>>36363021HIPPY NO! YOU ONLY HAVE 70 HP!
>>36363021also target the captains chair.
"No, McHippy!" Hinderson cries over the intercom. "According to the UI you have no health whatsoever! Get out of there!"UI, or UniShip Intelligence, monitors everything going on with the crew of whatever ship it's mounted on. Obviously. For example, it can tell that Nikolai has been satisfied at work recently, is ecstatic over crafting an artifact recently, and is grumbling over drinking the same old booze recently.Wait, no, that doesn't sound right, does it? I mean, Engi don't even drink. I don't think.Whatever. We send a few warning shots directly into the ship's nose, and they offer to give us all their stuff and run away. Again. I'm seeing a pattern with these people.
>>36363193No fuel?Fuck em.Plus, if we don't blast them, they'll just show up at the next beacon.
>>36363193Fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice shame on You.
>>36363234>Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, suffocate in the endless vacuum of spaceFTFY
>>36363234>>36363278they didn't fool us this time though.
>>36363309Fool me once, suffocate in the endless vacuum of space.
We tell them that they can take their surrender and shove it up their ass.And then every single shot they've fired hits at once. Eight laser blasts plus a bomb. And their rockman teleports on board. And fires break out everywhere, but because we're in a nebula, we can't tell where.WHY DIDN'T WE LET THEM SURRENDERWHY DID WE DO THIS
>>36363449Today, we die like we lived.Scared and alone in the endless expanse of space.
>>36363449Because you haven't broken our legs yet, bitch.RAMMING SPEED!
>>36363449Also PUT OUT THE FIRES and repair shields
We vent the entire ship to put out the fires, relying on the nanites in the medbay to keep us alive, artificially supplying oxygen to our brains. McHippy is caught by the Rockman intruder with a swift punch to the face as he ran to the medbay; he perished in a burst of energetic flame that killed his murderer. As we cower in the medical bay, slowly asphyxiating, the weapons system fire one last volley, Hinderson keeping a steady aim even as we burn alive. The Heavy Cannon hits their weapons; they have three hull points remaining. The Flax fires on their teleportation system. None hit the teleporter. All three fragments hit dead on their O2 system. They fly apart. A final bomb is fired towards us, we brace for a blast... which never comes. They missed. We repair what we can, fixing the main systems. We are near death. The ship is limping along, down a crew member, no structural stability in the thing. Nikolai informs us that one more solid hit will kill us all.
>>36363700So situation normal then.
>>36363700We'll be alright. We gotta carry on with our mission.
>>36363754>not posting the superior edit
>>36363700Derek audibly considers suicide, calling it the better alternative to whatever slow death we're sure to have as we're sucked into the void through a hole in our hull. The Droids are unresponsive, chattering to eachother in their strange machine language.Hinderso doesn't care. He is a murderer, a necrophiliac, a brutal killer of any not aligned with his interests. But he is a Federation Captain. He has a mission. That mission is to deliver this manilla folder to Federation HQ, come hell or high water. He, and this ship, have survived pulsar stars, crazed cultists, the full force of the Rebel fleet. A ship piloted by idiots with fake mustaches will not kill him, or stop this mission.Input jump coordinates.
>>36363772Can't It was already posted. believe me I tried. but here is a link.http://asset-0.soup.io/asset/4588/9562_0448.gif
>>36363809If we go to the right, can we jump directly to the shop from there? Will that be faster than doubling back and coming in from above? If the routes are the same length, go back. Going through a cleared beacon means one less encounter.
>>36363809Space north, then get to the shop, ASAP.
>>36363875can't reach the shop from north in one jump. might be able to reach it if we go east.
>>36363858The route to the right lets us go directly to the store, after whatever happens there happens.
>>36363906East is risky, could be another ship. But, fine. Let's do it.
>>36363924And the route we just came from doesn't, correct?Going directly to the right is the way to go, then. We'd have to cross an uncharted beacon either way.
>>36363924Does henderson do what is safe? no. if he did he would be home drinking filtered water, eating unbuttered toast, and having sex in the missionary position under the blankets with the lights off. We are Captain Henderson! WE FUCK THE ODDS IN THE ASS AND DON'T CALL NEXT MORNING! BRING IT!
It is times like these when Hinderson thinks to his role model, his leader. He thinks of Kirk.Did Kirk ever say no, when asked to leap into the mouth of danger? No.Did Kirk ever NOT fuck something? No.So, it is time to fuck the odds of probability. Fuck that law whose name he can't remember right now that means bad things will always happen.Fuck it!Fuck it all!SpaceEastward! We come across a Rebel scout drone, guarding a supply cache. We could leave it, and head to the shop to get repaired.Or we could charge.
>>36364097Leave it. Bravery doesn't mean idiocy.
>>36364097haha, no. leave it. if only we could come back for it.
>>36364097Avoid it. We're holding our ship together with duct tape and questionable sticky substances as it is; taking on a space station would be more "stupid" than "daring".
>>36364097Avoid provoking it. If we fail, divert power from the Mind Control so we can activate our second set of shields, which will hopefully allow us to avoid ion rape.
Discretion is the better part of not dieing. We avoid it, and head to the store. The fat slug bastards ("Hey!" from Derek.) clean us out of every cent but one to repair the ship. Although to be honest, it was more akin to buying a new one Isn't there some fable about a ship with new parts, but it's still the same ship so long as part of it is the original? Something like that. It seems to apply here. We're alive, now. Full armor. Where to?
>>36364097>>36364263Damnit, and looking at our layout versus it, we'd probably kick his ass.No shields, and we have a hull laser.Oh well.>>36364271I say north.
>>36364271Up. We've got to recoup our losses, and we've got enough time to go the long way.
okay sorry Cap'n but I'm fading fast and I need sleep. Have a good night and here, have some songs based off the ghost of a Portuguese Brazilian samba singer, dancer, Broadway actress, and film star. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WDRxtd-2dQ
>>36364271Before we jump, what's at the store? It might or might not be worth it to jump back if we get lots of extra scrap.
We warp to SpaceNorth, and find what seems to have once been a major trade hub, once. But the place has been cleared out, not even any copper left in the walls to strip. Place is empty, and a waste of fuel. Where to next?>>36364363Only thing interesting and even possibly in our price range was a Flame Beam, for 50.
>>36364396Space south east
>>36364396To the right. It's the only practical option available, assuming it eventually links to the exit.
Another jump, another fuel spent, another empty zone. When we were porting in there was a ship here, briefly, but it ported away as we entered the system. Are we being avoided?
>>36364548Down. The Rebel fleet is approaching fast, so the straightest route is ideal.
We jump towards the beacon; the Rebel fleet is fast approaching. We find a Slug salesman. When we refuse to buy his combination banana peeler/apple corer/orange slicer, he begins to charge his weapons. He's moving in for aggressive sales tactics! Charge the spam filter!
>>36364714If only the Zoltan had survived. He'd know how to handle aggressive diplomacy.Well, they don't have a drone system, so deploying our attack drone would help. Slugs are immune to mind control, so we can power that down. We should target their weapons system first, because those look nasty.
>>36364714Depower mind control and fire up a combat drone.
>>36364714Screw mind control, power the combat drone. Then, target their shields until down, then laser their weapons.
>all slug crewSlugs are immune to mind control, so we might as w->>36364768>>36364783... yeah what they said.
>>36364714flak and ion the shields, then beam the pilot seat and weapons. also prepar for fire. also also >>36364783
We open fire, kicking their shields apart! Then, we focus fire on their weapons, but not before they get that beam weapon off. It seems to not do actual damage, but DOES light things on fire in our Shields room. Which isn't much of a problem. After we adamantly deny any need for their stupid Made-In-Xerxeseycron IV junk, they humbly ask us to stop shooting if we'll take their Made-In-Xerxeseycron IV junk.
>>36364928Yeah, sure, okay.
>>36364928Hmm, a tempting offer. WE'LL TAKE IT!
>>36364928Only if they throw in the fruit blender thing.if not, fuck em
>FTL has crashedOh boy.
We let them live, and they open their cargo bay doors. Here! Take it all! The Mondo-Tronic Fruit Carvermatic, the My First Laser Pistol! And we have tons of fuel! So much damn fuel! They give us a pile of junk and a pittance of fuel.
>>36365209We can't just blow them up, can we?Well, now we know better than to trust any ambiguous offer made by a Slug. Good thing we're moving out of this system soon.
Sadly, they jump away as soon as they offload all their shit onto us. This is probably how they get rid of things that won't sell. Now laden with this IMMENSE amount of fuel, this INSANE DENSITY of spacegas, this TREMENDOUS LOAD of no-fucking-fuel-at-all, where shall we go?
>>36365274Down and to the left. There's time to hit one last beacon before leaving.
We head to the beacon near the Jump Ring, and find a Slug mechanic peddling his wares.Dr. Mr. Derek recommends the "Sassy" route.
>>36365433Sassy's always fun.
>>36365433Ask if they would like payment. You can't trust a Slug that doesn't make it obvious what he wants.
"Would you like payment? Because we only have, like, one spacebuck."There's some brief chatter over their intercom, obviously not directed at you. The words "Scuttle", "Strip for parts" and "Poorfags" come across loud and clear. Arm the weapons!
>>36365557Hah. We know how to handle slimeballs like that. Depower the mind control, activate the attack drones, target their weapons.
We rip them a new one, our little-used Attack Drone making an incredible difference during battles. They open a comms channel, and promise us everything in their stores for their lives. They have this amazing combination fruit slicer, you see!
>>36365718Not this time. KILL ZEM ALL
>>36365718We learned better from last time. They're gonna give us some horrible shit.Take the offer.
>>36365718>Slugs asking us to trust themNope. Especially not after they tried to sabotage our ship.
>>36365718Eh, take it. Maybe it'll be better?
>>36362016that minigun is fucking glorious. I had it with a weapon pre igniter in my last run. Took down the flagship with three points of hull damage.
We take the bait, and anticipate a bomb in the cargo. No bombs in the cargo! Actually not a bad deal.
>>36365964The rebels are closing fast. Do we risk it, and jump for further looting, or head the the exit?
>>36365981Space NE. We're in a Nebula, we have time.
>>36365981Why is there an exclamation point over our current beacon?Do either of those further two beacons allow us to jump straight to the exit? if so, then it's woth the time to check out one of them. The rebels won't reach the exit for two or three turns.
>>36365981Better get out of there. They'll be all over the exit on the next turn.
>>36366026No idea!We decide to chance it, and head SpaceNortheastward. Here we find a Slug pirate crew lying in ambush, and they have a Mind Control Facility! C2P2 clutches it's mechanized head, and begins breaking the vital machinery within the Weapons room!I have no idea how to deal with this! Do we just have to kill him?
>>36366089Use our own Mind Control machine on him to reverse theirs. For offense, target their oxygen. They don't have a medical bay, so killing their crew is definitely an option.
>>36366112> clone bay> targeting oxygenno you fool! target the weapons!if we get any breathing space, switch to hitting engines to reduce their evade, and deploy our combat drone. Torrent the shit out of them!
>>36366230Ah, right, I hadn't noticed that.
We counter their control programs with our own! It's like a cool battle-of-minds between the slugmen. Hinderson is pretty sure that the finger-wiggles and "Nyaw-Nyaw-Nyaw" noises Derek is making is just for show.We focus fire on their oxygen, but they refuse o be incompetent and let it go down! They eventually take such a beating they offer us their stock of blenders.
>>36366307Eh, let's take the offer. I'm curious as to what it might be.
They give us another "Generous" donation of three fuel.Whoopdie fuckin' doo.Next location? Those rebels are really close now.
>>36366307They might be really nice blenders.
>>36366448Exit. There's no more time for dillydallying.
>>36366448They weren't nice blenders. They were shitty blenders. Was that the same ship from before?
>>36366488Yeah, it did, but this wasn't exactly a long or hard fight so I didn't mention having to redo it.We head to the Exit, and with that, I'm going to call it a night! Had a close call earlier in the thread, but things seem to be going pretty well. Besides us suddenly being incredibly poor.Questions, comments, concerns, complaints? And would somebody please stick this on SUPTG with the rest?
>>36366596>Sector 6 with 2 shield and crap for weapons.Start praying.
>>36366625Is that bad? I've never been past Sec 5. We seem to be doing alright so far.
>>36366697We nearly died in this sector. We didn't improve our ship in anyway and it's only going to get harder. It's still doable of course but I think we might need to teach you things like volleying otherwise it will be very hard.
>>36366739Yeah, there's probably dozens of things I could be doing better. This whole /tg/ plays thing is only my sixth run through the game.
>>36366841From what I can see you're not at the point where your chances of victory are nil, but without a spot of luck it's going to be hard. That's the nature of the game; the RNG giveth and the RNG taketh. You're doing better than I did near when I first started playing, if it's any help. So many crewmen dead to the spider menace. Best of luck going forward.
>>36366841On the plus side, we've got mind control and anti-drone defenses. Those will come in pretty handy in the later stages. It'd also be nice to pick up a cloaking device if we can.>>36366916Should've treaded carefully. Giant alien spiders are no joke.
>>36367004>Giant alien spiders are no joke. The galaxy will never forget Lambert's brave sacrifice. If the Nostromo hadn't blown up in an asteroid field two jumps later that is.I usually run teleporter+cloaking+bomb with pumped evade. Hasn't worked too well since the expansion came out though so you might be better off with something else.
>>36366596Thanks for running
Oh get a twitter so i know when you're playing! also thanks for running cap!
