Welcome to the Continent of Mahrun! Full of many kinds of people, wildly differing climates, and monsters galore, there's always something for a roving band of adventurers to explore, loot, and/or murder! Too bad you aren't one of those adventurers. Instead, you happen to be the leader of one of the aforementioned people- and as tensions rise across the world between the four sects and monster attacks increase in occurrence, it's not looking like yours will be a peaceful reign.Still, your people will support you- so long as you strive to defend them, support them, and keep them from being murdered by one of the many, many threats surrounding you!You rule over...>The cold, harsh mountains of the North!>The unforgiving, hellishly hot desert of the East!>The endless, bone-dry plains of the South!>The deadly, monster infested forests of the West!
>>36171288>The deadly, monster infested forests of the West!
>>36171351>The deadly, monster infested forests of the West! The Western sect is a small series of islands- each home to one (or more) clans of the inhabitants. Choke-full of dangerous flora and fauna, each and every one of its' citizens is a capable fighter and stronger than ten 'normal' men from the main body of the continent- but natural selection takes it's toll, and there's a population less than a third of any other sect.Is this your choice?
>>36171288>>The unforgiving, hellishly hot desert of the East!I hate making things difficult, but...
>>36171669Well, now I feel like I'm gonna get hit in a drive by by the west-siders.
>>36171669>The unforgiving, hellishly hot desert of the East! The Eastern sect is the largest of the four, edging out the South by a hair. Contrary to it's large nature, the inhabitants are spread far and wide, each tribe wandering from oasis to oasis, almost never settling down into a permanent camp. Survivors of the harsh deserts, the people are dark-skinned and hardier than all but the Northern sect. >Hint; Ask questions! Some may not be answered right away, but don't hesitate to ponder aloud!
Five Minutes before West becomes the winner.
>>36172085It appears west wins, but can we get the intro of the remaining peoples?
West wins! The western sect of the Mahrun continent. Seperatebombs from the other three sects, not just by geography, but the sheer difference in their inhabitants. The West is compromised of Beastmen.Every man or women born here belongs to a clan. Each clan has their own form- ranging from Tigers, Bears, Hawks and Crows to the more exotic Dire Wolves and the almost-mythical Dragons. Each clan has their own internal politics and positions- but almost all of them respect strength. You are one of the rare, unseen Dragons- found by the Tiger tribe on the central island while you were a child, you were raised by their people. Now that you've reached the age of twenty-five, you finally felt yourself strong enough to challenge the clan leader- and won! Now the de-factor leader of the Tiger and allied Panther and Hawk tribes, you also have a large amount of influence with the other scattered tribes- but not outright command. This is your last chance for OOC questions- anything learned here will be learned by the PC in-game, but after this you must learn almost everything in-character.
>>36171288>The unforgiving, hellishly hot desert of the East!
>>36172439What kind of dragon are we? What powers do we have? Who are our enemies?
>>36172439Do we have boats? What sort of weapons do we have? How about shelter?Do we hunt ALL of our food? Are we carnivorous?
>>36172226The Northern sect is made of mountains. Mountains and snow.Everywhere.Appropriately, the people of the sect are large, burly, and have enough hair to create a couple of good-sized blankets from a single man. Raised on the icy peaks, the inhabitants are used to winters cold enough to freeze a body to death in minutes. The idea of a desert is almost foreign to them.
>>36172439How much farming and animal husbandry can we do?Can we build forts? Watchtowers?
>>36172442It's too late, my desert loving friend. We've lost.EAST SIDE TIL I DIE, MUTHAFUCKAS!
>>36172439What animals do we possess, domestic and wild?
>>36172226The Southern sect lives on vast plains, where the single largest landmark for miles is the occasional hill. The ground is fertile and perfect for large scale farming, so the people have the single largest population on Mahrun.Unfortunately for them, the mild climate and easy terrain leave them /very/ unprepared for the deadly ecosystems found elsewhere.
>>36172642>bone-drywhere do they get their water? Large numbers of natural wells?
>>36172684Probably irrigation.Like Egypt.
>>36172490To be determined in character creation, after the questions are deemed finished.>>36172515As the leader of the Tiger, Panther and Hawk clans, you control almost the entirety of the central island. Travel between islands and the main landmass isn't much, but it's common enough that boats are kept and maintained. The tiger people use hollowed jungle trees as canoes. Each canoes is large enough to fit three of the Tiger people comfortably, or five if they're good friends. The panther people rely on their Tiger and Hawk allies for transport- they have no ships of their own.The Hawks have the largest boating industry. They have proper ships- but they aren't large. The biggest is a two-sail and can carry and supply a squadron of any group for 1-2 weeks. The most common simply have one sail and cannot support a squadron for more than a week at maximum.Weapons are almost entirely scorned by the Tiger and Panther peoples. Hawks use iron weaponry bought from the main landmass.Shelter consists of jungle cities. Houses are bound wood and bark, located in small clearings for the Tiger people. Both the Panther and Hawk peoples have dwellings built within the trees of the jungle- the Hawks higher than the Panthers. Hawks have proper wooden houses, and use (relatively) modern amenities- stoves, heated baths, and other such things. Both the a Tigers and the Panthers scorn such devices. All food is hunted. None of the tribes maintain farmland. All groups are primarily carnivorous. Without meat they /will/ sicken and die. That said, they do supplement their diet with fruits and berries.
>>36172906>character creationIt's already been an hour, though. Granted, not using the standard race/location select has sped things up, but don't take too long without actually starting the game.>hawks techies>everybody is mainly meatThat's pretty bad. Expanding/travelling to the mountains or plains will be impossible without animal husbandry, and the desert is pretty much impossible.
>>36172601Within the natural jungle of your homeland, conventional farming is all but impossible. Animal husbandry is also incredibly difficult, and Tigers and Panthers feel that such ideas are ridiculous, and mock the other three sects for performing such acts, instead of hunting for themselves. Both forts and watchtowers are available- but they can only be made with wood and plant matter (at first.) The Tigers do not see a need for such things- their forest protects them well enough, and hiding within walls is behavior for weaklings.>>36172609In the wild, the three groups hunt large birds, boars, the occasional giant deer, and their own unchanging cousins. Within both the Tiger and Panther clans, a member isn't considered an adult until they have tracked, fought, and killed a regular Tiger/Panther without outside assistance. No domestic animals.(OOC, the ecology is fucked to hell. I say Jungle, but you're going to see sections of pine trees with deer and such, the occasional meadow, ect. These areas all have distinct boundaries. You can go straight from jungle to pine in a single step, and neither intrudes on the other. Jungle just makes up the majority of the island.Oh, and everything is 1.5 to 5 times as large as your average specimen on the main landmass. Including trees and plants. The sizes also vary by area, with the same cut-off boundaries.)
>>36173025As soon as I answer all questions, we'll go straight to Character creation. The area is pretty damn big, so it's best if we get it out of the way now.Hawks are generally more... Civilized than their allies, yeah. It comes from going back and forth from the mainland so often. The trip isn't beyond a determined Hawk that rests on smaller islands each night, and they do have active trade with the people of the plains. As for 'mainly meat' yeah, it sucks. However, there are animals within all three other locations, and almost every beastman can run without food for a week before they begin to truly tire. They're also incredible hunters- it's more of an issue of hunting the local game into the ground within a month. The ecology is, once again, insane, and the growth rates of animals there even more so. If species from the islands made it over to the main landmass, they'd destroy their smaller counterparts (and the ecosystem) without supervision.
>>36172684>>36172750Shit-tons of oasis. They aren't /everywhere/, but they're fairly common. Only the desert people know where they all are, but outsiders don't have immense difficulty finding one just by picking a direction and walking. The rare cities they do create are al focused around larger oasis'.
Any more questions? If not, character creation starts in five minutes, and everything else will be learned in-game.(Probably should've done that anyway.)
>>36173275>issue of hunting the local game into the ground within a monthThat's sort of what I meant. They need a sustainable source of meat(animal husbandry). If it makes them feel better, they can release the animals before "hunting" them down. It helps that native animals are even less of a challenge.>>36173336oasis in the plains? So the plains are more like a savanah?>>36173402go ahead.
>>36173402ah, one more thing: fishing. I suppose there are tribes that go diving to hunt giant fish/whales?
Congratulations, you're a dragon! But what kind of dragon?>Pick one;>RedIt's all about the fire, baby. You'll be able to breath napalm at will. Red dragons are big-ass dragons, and you'll generally be able to bull through anything other than dedicated anti-dragon squads or high-ranked, highly trained squads. Red dragons also have hot tempers- it's pretty hard to discuss peace with a group calmly when your blood is urging you to kill them.>BlueNothin quite like lightning. Arcs of electricity fire from your maw. Knights beware! Blue dragons are smaller creatures, only barely bigger than your a tiger allies. You can't quite slam through enemy squads, but you aren't helpless either.Blue dragons are also naturally stealthy. Their scales have minor color-changing qualities, both darkening and lightening in response to your will or emotions. >BlackYou make for a regal sight. With the bearing of a man- ahem, dragon, fit for kingship, enemies will be hard pressed not to bow down before you. Your skill with magic is just an added bonus. Although being smaller than your average panther is a /little/ bit of a disadvantage in combat...
>>36173693>BlackI wouldn't mind blue but red might be a bit too dangerous since we rely on the jungle for protection, food and materials.

An appropriate silly hat always helps, too.
>>36173693Blue. Electricity AND natural camouflage?Sign me the fuck up.
>>36173693I do like being a talker, Black. To bad we can't write-in, I wanted bone dragon.

>>36173735We dragon-pope now?
>>36173693So, are we a dragon, or a half dragon?
>>36173778It sounds like the beastmen are half-dragons, half-tigers, half-hawks, etc.
>>36173464Messed up on my words a little. Let me rephrase this; The plains are dry. Bone-dry was an exaggeration- there are lakes and rainstorms are a once/twice a month occurrences. The land is still flat as heck and wild patches of grain is everywhere, so i think plains is the best description. It's the desert that has an oasis' every 10-20 square miles.>>36173478There are- they live the farthest from the mainland, on the outermost islands, and you have barely any contact with them, but they exist. They're mostly made up of smaller sharks and the occasional Great White. Of course, hunting whales is a very dangerous proposition. They can reach the size of leviathans, with mouths large enough to destroy a large-class ship in a single bite. And just about everything in the West eats meat.Everything.
>>36173778>>36173793Think more along the lines of shape-changers. What species they belong to defines their overall traits- tigers are almost always 7-8ft giants with broad shoulders, Panthers are slimmer and smaller, and Hawks generally have very light builds.Their minds and physical comp. are also affected by changes. Up until one changes for the first time- which generally occurs around the beginning of puberty- they're visually indistinct from human kids. Different body builds, but human. Once they change for the first time, they gain small gangs and mildly pointy claws, or lighter bones for the hawks. Once they get the transformation down, they start to have ears and tails or wings I n human form. As they increase their mastery of the transformation, their bodies and minds reflect it. A kid who just barely has his tail won't reflexively snap at something passing his face- whereas a veteran Tiger would have inhuman reflexes and the teeth to break whatever dared to flick by him easily.
Black wins! Next step;>Name>Gender>Pick Two;War leader; The previous Alpha. Rather than killing him, you overthrew tradition by sparing his life and offering him a place underneath you. He accepted.Tinker; one of your friends from childhood, this Hawk has always been fascinated by machines. In his spare time, he's created different kinds of traps, tools, and devices. Now that you're the leader, maybe his creations will gain a little attention...Shaman; your teacher. He's old, but not too old to give you a thrashin'! Skilled in the ways of magic, both in battle and outside of it.Rouge; a man that's seen the world, and is positively sick of it. The only way to get ahead in life is to cheat, steal, and trick your way there, and he's skilled at it.

Wouldn't we want Shaman since Black is skilled in magic? If we don't I am guessing we have to learn it to make it useful.

>>36174625Fair enough I guess.
You open your eyes.Light filtering through the wooden slats of the roof meet them. Several deep breaths later, you rise, ready to greet the new day.You savor the feeing of dressing in the Alpha's garments, the flowing furs draped over your thin shoulders. They're almost too big for you- you only reach around six feet, and the previous Alpha was an eight foot monster. They still smell like him, unfortunately enough, but you'll have that fixed.Stepping outside your hut, you take in the activity of the camp. It's but one of many such villages spread throughout the land- your land- preparing for the new day. Striding forth, you take some time to tour the area. You were raised here, but now that you've become the Alpha, everything old had gained a new... Attractiveness to it. It's probably because you now own it.The others back away reverently whenever you come close, a hushed 'Alpha' their only greeting. It's obvious that they're unsettled at the change of power- the old Alpha was close to fifty years of age, going grey along his flanks, and then you came in and defeated him.Still. They'd adjust.Done with your circuit, you're once again in front of your hut. Stretching, you decide upon a plan of action.>Speak to the old Alpha; he's likely still in his hut, recovering from his wounds. Gain a greater understanding of the state of the Western Clans.>Speak to the Rouge, the previous alpha's buddy; he should be lurking around somewhere. 1/2You'll have enough time to speak to the others later. For now, out, it's a very nice day. Exercise would do you good. It's takes only seconds to pick your pace up to a swift jog, then a run, then a sprint. In seconds you're running through the forest, vaulting over fallen trees and ducking between plants. You make no effort to be silent, as your Tiger teachers painstakingly tried to beat into your head. Everything about you just screams for recognition and awe. Silence would be the opposite of that.Once you're far enough away from the camp, you slow down and start concentrating. You used to have to do this standing still, and before that, meditating, but now....You picture yourself. The piercing green eyes, always in a reptilian slit, and the regal sweep of your eyebrows, framing your eyes. The high cheekbones, the sharp chin, the slight tilt your head seems to use as a default, leading you to look down upon everyone. Spreading out from there, your thin frame, your long limbs. The short black hair that sweeps backwards, curling about the two small horns jutting from your head. You change. The face elongates, the cheekbones pressing outwards, the eyes moving away. The lashes meld into scales, your pale white skin darkening and hardening in a wave. The clothes melt away, vanishing into someplace /other/-the most useful spell you've ever learned, you think-and your claws hit the ground. You sped up once more, and this time there's nothing but a black blur racing through the forest. Adrenaline is giving you delightful chills. Unable to hold it in, you give off a great roar, and for a moment, the forest echoes. You cast out your /Presence/, and soon enough you have a group of your people around you, joining you in your run. Panthers glide overhead, almost flowing through the branches. On either side, Tigers flank you, powerful muscles straining under their skin. They come to bask in your glory, your /Presence/, and you enjoy the feel of their company.
>>36175453that was pretty awesome.
2/2You can't just run forever, as much as you'd like it. Your mind turns to other things- namely, hunger. You haven't eaten yet, and you have a perfectly good pack right here. Time to hunt.-------You dodge, letting the oversized boar stamp on the ground uselessly. More than five times your size, the boar is big enough to crush you in a single blow. That doesn't matter if it can't hit you, however.Three tigers dart in to harass it- trading places, they switch out on the drop of a hat to confuse the beast. It's a risky tactic, as the slightest error will result in taking a hit- as one tiger learns. He is caught by a tusk, and flies into a tree with a sickening *crack.*You haven't been wasting your time gawking, however. It takes time to summon energy from that coil of power in your gut, and while you do, you're very vulnerable. But the price is worth it.You rear back on your hind legs, and with a spark of /other/, black smoke roils between your paws. The tigers were watchi for just this occurrence, and retreat. The boar is left without enemies, and the moment of confusion is more than enough to finish it off.The smoke leaves your hands, and fires forward to impact the snout of the beast. It breaks apart, dissipating quickly, leaving the boar to shake it's head and grunt in confusion- before its muscles give one great spasm. The boar foams at the mouth as it collapses. It has enough energy for one panned squeal before it dies. You're left panting, the magic taking it's toll. Still, the warm glow of accomplishment flows through you, and roar once more, announce your victory to the sky. The voices of your pack rise in symphony with you.
>>36175609that was nice.there is no prompt, but its 2/2.are we waiting for a prompt or are you waiting for a write in of what to do?

There's a moment of quiet once the group roar finishes. Then everyone moves towards the abundance of meat before them. You lick your lips, eyeing the flank hungrily as you move forward- before a small whimper behind you draws your attention. Glancing behind you, you can see the triplet of tigers from earlier in a group. One of them is struggling to stand- the one that was flung against the tree- while the other two do their best to help nudge it up. Even as you watch, the injured cat makes it to its feet, and takes a step, only for its hind paws to immediately collapse on it, sending it tumbling to the ground. The other two nuzzle it worriedly. .....Taking wounds in one form makes it dangerous to change to the other. Wounds can translate oddly, and something that looks like it could be a back injury would likely just injure them even further. Smart of them to not change. That meat was calling for you, you know it.With a resigned snort, you turn around and head for the injured tiger. As you approach, the other two tigers eye you worriedly. It wouldn't be the first time a 'detriment to the clan' was executed out of hand. Just one if the reasons you challenged the previous Alpha. They back away as you finally make it to the tiger. The tiger itself freezes in place as lay a paw across its forehead. Closing your eyes, you feel within you for that knot of power.Drawing it to the surface in a steady trickle is difficult. Channeling it into another to help them even more so. You will make it happen, however- you are Ao Run, and nothing is beyond your grasp!Letting out a breath you weren't aware you were holding, you release the tiger and back away. It slowly rises up, and if a cats expression could be said to be 'astonished,' this is what it would look like. The other two rush in. You take a moment to enjoy the view; helping your people is /good/. It turns out that the flank you were looking forward to was taken. You don't feel too bad about it. >Action?

I really really do not feel we should just crap all over our culture. We should work within it to enhance its glory instead.that being said, I can think of a few uses for them>FortsWhat about infants too young to expect to defend themselves? how are they protected from things like poisonous snakes and the like? (if at all)Than again, I guess early exposure with constant watching by adults would be good. As long as we don't lose a lot of adults to fighting and have too many kids to watch properly.>Watch towersMight be useful for finding the general location of the most ferocious of pray. Or for communication with the other tribes via smoke/light signalsAlthough again, those are probably both a strength. might be best to focus on the strengths and culture of our people instead.
1/2Even without getting your flank, the meat is good. The Deathly Smoke spell made it tenderize itself rather nicely, and the bone fragments everywhere onto add the the crunchiness. Eventually, the other three tigers join in with everyone else, and there's only the sound of tearing flesh and the occasional snarl as cats fight over the juiciest bits.Within minutes everyone is full, and the less pleasant part of the hunt begins. Some Tigers and Panthers change to human form, completely unbothered by their nudity. They create some impromptu slings with some of the massive leaves and vines everywhere, and begin loading up their friends with food. It takes time, but soon enough the Boar is little but bones- and even those are stowed away for the trip back to camp. Then you're off, and bounding back though the forest to camp. Soon enough, the smell hits your nose, and the camp comes into view soon after. The children greet your return with excited shrieks and giggles, and more than one Tiger finds them-self used as ride. Cats change to humans, and start unpacking the meat. The smokehouse is loaded up, while the children sneak treats and the hunters spread out the portions to those who have ore jobs or simply can't hunt. Soon enough, other hunting teams come back, although none have managed to match your Boar. Fires pop up everywhere for those who enjoy cooked meat more than raw, and to give the occasional Hawk something to eat. There's laughter and storytelling everywhere- 'The Boar was bigger than anything you've ever seen! It must've been ten-no, twenty times bigger than yours!' 'Daddy, tell me about what you saw.' 'Well, we went by the meadow that-a-way, and there were some very pretty butterflies'-'butterflies!? You've gotta take me, daddy! I wanna catch 'em!' '....and this is how you skin a rabbit. It also works on most other small creatures. Now, you try; you'll be out there catching food for the whole clan soon enough.' 'Like this?' 'No, try this...'
2/2 For a while, you just sit back and let the camp chatter run around you. Children playing tag, several men engaged in wrestling matches, and women chatting around the fires- except the ones that are handing the men's asses to them while wrestling, of course. This is all yours. There couldn't be a better feeling in the world.Soon enough, though, you have to rouse yourself. It's time to go looking for the Rouge. You've heard troubling things about the mainland, recently, and even out about on the islands. Monster attacks have been occurring more often, even on entire camps- there had even been a story of a pair of chrystons spotted wandering above ground. If it was true... There was much to be worried about.--The Rouge was in the Hawks bower. It took some climbing, but you eventually found him in hue treetops, talking to an old, grizzled bird missing an eye."....It's been getting worse and worse. Did you hear the latest from the Imperials?"You interject quickly- you would most certainly like to hear about 'the latest.'The a rouge turns to you. He's a Panther, one of the rare ones shorter than you. He has more scars across his face than you can count, and walks with a very, very mild limp. His tail and ears are habitually tucked into his mainland clothes, and he looks like an old human out for a walk.Looks are deceiving. This Panther could likely kill you in your sleep without batting an eyelash.Despite that knowledge, it's easy to see how old he really is in the depressed lines of his eyes. He heaves a heavy sigh, looks you straight in the eye, and tells you about 'the latest.'The Imperials and the Danes have gone to war.>Thread End!>Tune in tomorrow or the day after for a continuation.

>>36177044Bah, Twitter. Sure, I'll make one. Don't be surprised when I have no idea how to work it, though. I'll post it here once it's up.Thanks for playing!
Here it is. It only took me twenty minutes to figure the damn thing out.https://twitter.com/qmreductionist

>>36176974looking good, a shame I had to leave before it actually started.>>36176722I asked about forts and watchtowers to get a feel for the general infrastructure level. Roads don't seem to be Panther style, but building towers and traps to simulate a jungle path should make travel outside of the West easier for us and much, much more troublesome for everyone else.Within the West, the only stuff we'll probably want to build would be a highway or rail of some sort to transport big game.Watchtowers and signal fires are DEFINITELY going to be important for communication between tribes. Bringing everyone into one capital doesn't seem to suit Beastmen, and message birds aren't enough.
