Dark, unexplainable things. Things that even the least superstitious individual dares only speak about in hushed tones. It is these things that every traveler fears, be they cargo hauler, fleet admiral, or pirate. Ghost ships, cursed treasures, monsters that shouldn’t exist, and many other horrible tales of gruesome fates for all that encounter them. Of these terrible, unnatural denizens of space, none are more feared and more well known than…

It’s said to yank ships right out of the stars and bring them crashing down to its surface to await a terrible fate that none have ever come back alive from. And your next destination. For you are Space Pirate Captain Valdessa Atroxius, slipperiest snake in all the void and the leader of the band of brigands crewing the Sol Regret, and it looks like your quest for the lost treasure of Scaly Dan might be the death of you yet.Even just looking at it on your main screen, you can’t see any sort of earth or vegetation, only massive ship carcasses in various states of disrepair piled on top of one another. Bringing your beloved Sol Regret in any closer will just add it to the pile, but the Charter Block still urges you down there so you’ll have to find some way down.>Use the shuttle. So how spooky is this gonna be? Very spooky? A little spooky?
In b4 these.
You’re not sure exactly how Bermudos claims its victims, but just to be safe your away teams consists of the members of your crew with no internal cybernetics and even had to disable your own cybernetic eye for the time being. Which turns out to be far less that you realized, as Koma, Lyka, and Doctor Lorelei are the only ones capable of joining you since you wanted Cernu to stay behind should anything happen to the ship in your absence. The shuttle ride towards the planet is a short but tense one, as everyone aboard waits for the inevitable moment of catastrophic ship failure. Or maybe it’s because Koma and Lyka rarely talk much ever and Lorelei is, well, Lorelei. Either way, you decide to try and rouse everyone’s spirits. “Alright crew, I know we may seem like we’re barreling headlong to our doom, but-”“Why am here? I just cook.”“Because you can’t have an away team with just three people, Lyka, now look-”“I hope we meet a ghost! I’ve never dissected a ghost before!”“That’s nice, Lorelei, but before we crash I just wanted to say-”The whole shuttle rattles as the engines cut out, all internal systems fail, and it begins careening towards the planet surface.“Might want ta buckle up, ma’am. It’s gon’ be a bumpy ride.” Koma helpfully offers. “Fine. Not like I wanted to set the mood with a speech anyways.” You can only huff angrily as you strap in.
>>35894679The rattling only worsens as you hit the atmosphere, now joined by an intense heat and a stifling pressure on your chest and each second seems to tick on longer than the last as you worry about whether the shuttle will hold together. You’re halfway through promising yourself to never take the artificial gravity generator on your ship for granted ever again for smoothing the whole reentry process over when your whole world starts tumbling end over end. Eventually the tumbling stops and all you can hear is the painful din of metal scraping against metal as your ride finally comes screeching to a halt. Upside down you might add.Thankfully, your tail reaches the floor (ceiling?) of the shuttle, so for you it’s little more than a minor inconvenience to twist your torso around to proper orientation as your tail gains a solid purchase on the metal beneath it. Of course, that just means you have to help your legged crewmembers down, leading to Lyka digging her claws into your shoulder as you help her out and Koma falling like, well, a rock right on top of you when you try to help him.“See, this is why I hate unaided atmospheric entry. At least this time it was a shuttle instead of a damn box…” You mutter to yourself, shaking the pain out of your body, you join your crew in regarding the planet. flicking on your eye and joyfully finding out it still works.Metal. Nothing but metal as far as you can see. Even beneath you isn’t solid ground but rather more slabs of broken ship that have settled into flat plains to complement the hills and mountains consisting of skeletal startship remains. Your pistol trains instantly on the source of the noise.“I don’t know who or what you are or if you can even understand me, but come out slowly and don’t make any sudden movements unless you want a few new holes in you!”The sound of shifting metal comes to an abrupt halt at your proclamation. Eventually, you see tiny metal hands wrap around the edge of a rusted outcropping, the top of an equally small metal head daring to poke into view as well as beady glowing eyes stare at you. The creature (machine?) can’t be taller than three feet and seems to be haphazardly constructed from the scrap metal littering the planet surface.“Aww, he looks adorable!” Lorelei coos. “Come on out, little guy, we won’t hurt you!”The thing takes a few experimental steps from beyond its cover, taking a few more when doing so doesn’t result in it getting shot. Before too long, it’s right in front of your group. Lorelei is all too eager to rush over and begin inspecting the creature that she doesn’t even notice its “mouth” crack open like lid, dozens of drills, saws, and other cutting implements whirring dangerously inside. It emits a sound akin to a dying cat played through a broken speaker and leaps at you.Only for you to lash out with your tail and send it flying, smashing on impact. “Odd, pointless creature.” Lyka spits. “Can’t even eat.”Before you can agree with her sentiment, the commotion of shifting metal resumes all around you and even beneath you. “Slither!” You shout, speeding off as fast as you can, crewmembers and gross metal goblins hot on your tail. It’s a fortunate thing that they don’t seem to be built for speed, but they’re making up for it by clawing out of the ground all around you and dropping down from above. Several paths you try to take end up teeming with the monstrosities, forcing you to hastily reroute. “Corralling us.” Lyka gasps out between breaths as she runs alongside you. “Like fish. In net.”“Not like we have a choice!” You shout back to herAs you’re running, you eventually reach what looks to be a cave formed by a massive, hollowed out engine. A few sharpened metal poles with goblin heads border each side of its mouth and the creatures back off now that you’ve reached it. You take this moment to catch your collective breaths, Koma plucking off a few of the things ineffectually gnawing on his stone body.“Is totally trap.” Lyka states.“Probably, but…” you gesture to the hordes of metal monsters surrounding you from every angle. “I don’t see anywhere else to go.”Lyka gives a curt nod before allowing you to enter first. You grip a pistol in one hand and a cutlass in the other to prepare for any situation. Scanning the “cave” with your bionic eye as your natural one adjusts to the darkness, the only thing you see is a lone figure draped in a ragged cloth sitting in front of a fire burning from a gas leak. It turns to regard you and your crew.“Hey! Someone else made it past those things! I need to – you! Of course it had to be -you-!”A metal, clawed hand pulls back the hood of the tattered makeshift cloak, revealing an all too familiar face. Short red hair, one dull silver eye and one golden one (both bionic), and painful scars adorning the face. “Ouroboros, I’m -so- sick of you two! I’ve got problems of my own to deal with, you know.”Repo holds out her hand in placation. “Easy! I ain’t here to fight. Don’t got much reason to fight ya anymore, anyways. Even if this damn shitshow is all yer fault.”“Yeah, how dare me not go and let you kill me.” You keep your pistol aimed square between her eyes. “Now tell your buddy to come out of wherever she’s hiding and quit this damn ambush.”Repo stiffens before slumping back over. “That’s the problem...” she mumbles more to herself than you.“Mind repeating that, little miss fingerknives?”“She’s gone, man! They took her. Tried to go and get her back, but as you can see,” she tears the ragged cloth off, revealing the even more ragged shape of her own body. Her left arm and leg are missing and the torso sports several deep gashes, severed wires and cables spilling out “it kinda cost me an arm and a leg just to get to this cave. Got the leg back, but I can’t reattach it. Audi always did that…” She looks down at her lone arm for a moment, lost in reverie for a moment before turning back to you.

I ain’t even working for those damned fuckin’ bankers anymore. How the fuck am I supposed to profit from this?”“You do have a point…” She starts the arduous process of getting up, using a nearby pole for leverage and begins to awkwardly hobble towards you. “Look, you can’t see it because they took out my tear ducts along with most of my face way back, but I’m bawling my fuckin’ eyes out over here. “Alright Repo, if I’m supposed to trust you, we need to clear the air between us first.” The cybernetic hitwoman rolls her eyes.“Fine. What’s eatin’ ya?”“For starters, what are you even doing here?”“Remember how I said I wasn’t workin’ for the FUB no more? Well they don’t exactly fire folks, they terminate em. Especially poor bastids who are plugged full of cyberware they’re still payin’ off. See, despite my perfect capture rate, I’m kinda not too well liked by the higher ups on account of causing massive property damage everywhere and because some chucklefucks seem to think I’m ‘abrasive and hard to work with’.”“I can’t imagine why.” You interject with a grin. Repo glares at you, but holds back.“Anyways, after I jobbed the hell outta taking ya out at the Stryx joint, Stryx’s estate decided to pin all the property damage and stolen military hardware on me to make a quick cred, so the FUB decided I wasn’t worth it no more and wanted to ‘liquidate’ my assets to pay for legal fees and pair Audi up with a different Repossessor since they never had no complaints about her. Course, she didn’t take to kindly to that and busted the both of us out. We tried to lose the Requisitioners they sent after us by skirtin’ close to Bermudos, but Audi cut it too close. Told her not to do it, but she said we used to do stuff like that all the time. Then she smiled.” Repo sighs and shakes her head, her eyes distant. “She don’t smile much no more.”“You seem to care an awful lot for someone who shoves you in a briefcase and whose name you don’t even know.”Repo just shrugs. “Don’t matter much to me. Don’t even know my own name.”“How does she not even know own name? Is stupid.” Lyka interrupts.“Mindwipes are standard procedure for Repossessors.” “Why would anyone sign up to have their memories taken? Not even my ship is worth that.” You question.
>>35898350“Sign up?! You think I signed up for this shit? I’m in debt just the same as you, only difference is I pay what I owe! They take all your memories from ya and don’t give em back until you’ve paid off your debt! Ya don’t just earn your freedom, ya earn your life back too!” Repo stops herself and recollects her cool.“I don’t remember much about who I used ta be on account of the mindwipe and all, but I do know I got banged up pretty bad. If I try hard enough, I can remember some things. That feelin’ of freedom and restriction you only get when you go fast enough that gravity itself is bearin’ down hard on ya, somethin’ buzzin in my ear and then…nothin’. Whatever I was doin’, I think that’s when I bit it. Audi said there wasn’t much left of me and that only the FUB could rebuild me. Course, they got to choose exactly how they rebuild me and what they get to remove. Audi was allowed to keep her memories as part of the contract, which is how she knows who we used ta be. Even offered ta tell me once, but I told her not to, since we can’t never be those people again ‘til we’re done working for the FUB. So for now, I’m just Repo and she’s just Audi. Though I guess we ain’t even that no more…”
>>35898375You’re not sure what to say to all that, which is probably for the best since the tunnel you’ve been traveling down just opened up into an open circular chamber. Dozens of mechanical creatures are kneeling in circular bands from the center of the chamber, though these ones are taller and lankier than the ones outside. They almost seem too haphazardly put together to even function properly. At the center of the chamber is a massive cable made out of the deepest black material you’ve ever laid eyes upon, where even the ambient light of the room seems to be wicked out of existence near it. Looking around, you notice that the lip your crew is currently hiding on stretches all the way around the chamber to the exit on the other side. Motioning to the rest of them, one by one you silently make your way across. It’s a breeze for you to slither past, but the rest of them have to hunch over and crouch-walk at an agonizing pace. Lyka moves with the instinctual grace of an experienced hunter, Repo has little trouble as well due to her flexibility, and Lorelei makes extra room for herself by rolling her head ahead of her body. Then comes Koma. The Igneoid is so big that even while belly crawling he still barely fits in the groove. After giving him the okay, he starts to crawl forward.SCREEEEK.Every time he drags himself forward by another arm, the room fills with the painful sound of rock scraping against metal which then proceeds to bounce and echo off of every wall in the circular chamber. And again. And again. And again. Eventually, after he’s made enough noise for the Central Aristocracy to hear you even across the vacuum of space, Koma reaches the rest of the team and not a single one of the things below has even budged.Your crew passes unnoticed by the skeletal machines below. Somehow.“How did the hell did ya ever manage to beat me? Twice, even!” Repo laments.“I told you once and I’ll say it again: I’m the best pirate in the whole damn Sprawl. Now let’s get out of here before those tin cans realize how dumb they are.”
>>35899690As you hurry along the path in front of you, you notice the walls begin to shift. Scrap metal loosely welded together gives way to solid black metal similar to that of the cable that seems to have been carved into organic shapes and curves. The tunnel is constantly curving and twisting in both design and direction, leaving you confused and disoriented.“Say Repo, you ever see any ground on Bermudos?” You venture.“Nah. Why?”“We’ve been traveling awfully deep, don’t you think?”Repo just shrugs. “So long as I find Audi, it makes no difference to me. Look! There she is!”Sure enough, a procession of the skeletal machines hauling off what looks to be some sort of casket with a limp Audi inside. Repo blazes ahead to try and catch up with them, only to be cut off as smaller versions of black cable from before rise up from the floor and ooze from the walls and ceiling, coiling around each other in spastic writhing until they form grotesque mockeries of the Nagan form. The whole tunnel the rumbles as a deafening grumble shakes you to your bones.“New. “Repo, wait!” You shout at her before she engages the writhing forms before you. Addressing the Nagan looking creatures before you, you shout. “Who are you and what do you want?”Again, the whole tunnel rumbles and that same voice that seems to come from everywhere and drag out the first and last word of every sentence responds.“An ignorant little hatchling and her pets. You know not who you tread. I am shame inherited. I am maddened devotion. I am business unfinished. And I am patient.”“Great, why do I always get the crazy AIs?” You sigh, the tunnel shakes violently response.“MACHINE! I AM NO MACHINE! I AM FAR MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER UNDERSTAND, LITTLE WORM.”“I don’t give a shit about any of this! Give Audi back you high talkin’ asshole!” Repo cries out, slashing open the “face” of one of the Nagatubes before her. All four turn towards her as the one she slashed slowly oozes milky white ichor, its face gradually stitching itself back together.“Your pain is delectable. It shall be burned as fuel for our journey. You have given me all I desire, and soon I shall – WHAT?!”The tunnel shakes yet again, this time violently enough for everyone to lose their balance and stumble a bit. Everyone save you, of course. Tails are just the best.“Fascinating!” You hear the mad Doctor Lorelei exclaim, looking over to see her gathering lifeless black tubes that were once one of the four Nagan forms blocking your path, a scalpel dripping milky fluids in her equally stained hand. “It appears they have some sort of motionless control cluster within all of the movement that ceases their functionality when pierced.”“Music to my fuckin’ ears.” Repo shouts as she hurls herself at the nearest one.“THIS CHANGES NOTHING” the faceless voice proclaims.
>>35901336Repo dive tackles the nearest one and though it wraps around her and tries to bind her with the individual tubes, she keeps on tearing it up with her solitary claw and even ripping away at it with her teeth until she gets to a pulsating knot of rubbery blackness hidden within the creature. One gleeful squeeze of her claw and all that’s left of the control cluster is white fluids. You shoot yours straight through its cluster with a single shot of your plaslock pistol and Lyka baits the last one into overextending itself before Koma crushes it flat – tubes, cluster and all – by slamming both of his fists down on top of it.Before you have a chance to discuss what just happened, Repo is already rushing down the hallway after Audi. You go to chase after her, but neither of you get very far before the floor beneath you drops out, sending all of you sliding through innumerable writhing cables before finally being deposited in a chamber large enough to store a small moon in. A massive mechanical worm stares at you with its single massive red eye. Hundreds if not thousands of steely pincers eagerly twitch down the front of its haggard frame, black plates similar to those lining the earlier tunnel walls are loosely held together with more writhing cables, and even more jut from every surface into the walls around you, no doubt penetrating every last inch of the planet.“I AM BERMUDOS. I AM ALL.” The gargantuan monstrosity before you bellows. “AND AT LAST, ALL OF THE PIECES OF SCALY DAN’S TREASURE MAP ARE MINE.”END OF THREAD SIXTEEN
