You and the three guards follow her example carefully.“I’ve always hated cutting through the swamps” the guard with the short brown hair and thin beard started, “They told me I would do a lot of walking as a guard, but I didn’t know just how much marshing we would have to do.” He smiled. The female guard laughed. The other male guard groaned.“Why I had to be on a mission with Vincent, I don’t know.” The lanky sullen man known as Albert complained.“Chin up, Albert. If the three of us do well on this mission, we’ll be on our way for promotions. That means less swamp crawling.” Rena, the female guard, cheerfully said.“I guess.” both Albert, and Vincent in an impression of Albert said simultaneously.Vincent walks faster to catch up with you.“So Miss…” Vincent pauses. “Alena.” You reply. “Miss Alena, do you know what I and my polar compatriots should expect? You start “I’m sure they told you. It’s just a scouting mission essentially. We’re to carefully investigate the nature of the threat we are dealing with, and escort any travelers who may be in the area back to the village.”“I heard terrifying, spooky things live in the miasma. Things that will tear your head clean off.” Vincent chimed. “If we’re careful, the only place you should watch your head is right here.” You duck slightly as Vincent gets a face full of gnarled branches from a dead tree.Rena laughs and Albert chuckles slightly.“We should be almost there.” Sarah says as the five of you come into a slight clearing. “Wait, stop.” Sarah says suddenly
>>35873845The rest of you stop.“Alena, look over there.” Sarah points to the end of the clearing.Three lizardmen sit cross-legged. They have their eyes closed and heads turned upward to the sun. It looks as if they are meditating. You recognize the heavily armored dark green lizardman from your first day at the guild building.“What do you think? Should we just go around?” Sarah asks still staring at the three. >Go around.>Approach but make your presence known>Try to sneak up>Write in
>>35873858>Approach but make your presence known
>>35873858>Approach but make your presence knownBunch of lizardmen near the miasma cloud should know what's going on. Also heya Auri.
>>35874083“Our village is on decent terms with the nearby lizardman tribes. I’m sure that if we approach and make ourselves known we can ask them a few questions about what’s going on in the area.” You stand.“You three…” you turn to the guards “Come out into the open and stay put. Sarah and I are going to see if we can get any information from them”“Finally, a break.” Albert sighs“Are you sure we can’t help?” Rena asks disappointedly.“We’ll just make them tenser if all of us approach.” Vincent walks into the opening and sits down.“Then it’s decided. Let’s go, Alena.” Sarah leads the way.As you get closer to the trio of lizardmen you see that they are indeed armed, but have yet to react to your presence. Finally you are only a few feet in front of them. “Ahem, excuse me.” Sarah starts. The three lizardmen all simultaneously inhale and open their eyes as if coming out of a trance.“Greetings, humans.” The dark green lizardman replies. “We were here just taking in the light. How about you?” He stares deeply at the two of you, his teal eyes boring deep into you.[1/2]
>>35874458“We were sent to investigate the miasma cloud and if it had any connections to the disappearance of four travelers.” You answer eyeing all three of them. You can see all of them are armed with a large longsword of lizardman make.“Ahh…” he exhales “how we should hate puppet strings for being invisible.” He turns to the two others and hisses something in a low tone. The two others get up and walk back into the marsh.“Don’t worry about them.” His tongue flickering in and out of his mouth quickly. “They would just get in the way, they do not speak your tongue.”He stands. He is quite the fearsome sight when standing. You and Sarah have you turn your heads upward to look him in the eye. You see many scars on his face on body, reminding you of your captain.“I am called S’Bon. You?” He says looking off into the distance.“I am Alena.” “I am Sarah.”The three of you nod in greeting. “I am afraid I must soon be leaving. But I will answer one of your questions about your mission, as a sign of good relations between our races.” He stares directly at you. “It would be wise to pick your question carefully.”>What caused the disappearance of the four travelers?>What is your business here?>What dealings did you have with the captain?>Let Sarah ask.>Write in

Rolled 1 (1d2)>>35874657First and foremost you think of your mission. “What caused the disappearance of the four travelers?” you finally ask.“Ah yes, four. To put it shortly, they were killed. Quite savagely, from my scout’s reports.” S’Bon answers curtly. “By what?” Sarah demands.“I suppose it is only fair to allow you both a question. Undine ambushed those travelers as they tried to pass through that cursed fog you humans call the miasma.” S’Bon hisses “A shameful way to attack an unarmed individual.” “Undine? They haven’t been spotted around this area for years. There must be a reason.” Sarah tries to make sense of the situation. At that moment one of other lizardmen run up to S’Bon and whispers something in his ear. S’Bon nods and the lizardman returns to the marsh.“It appears that another group of travelers is heading toward the miasma. My scout informs me that it is a human family, with children.” S’Bon points to the west. “They’re not too far from here. Perhaps if you hurry, you may be able to stop them.” S’Bon turns and sighs “I must be leaving, we all have our missions.” He stops and turns to look at Sarah “Little human, there is a reason, there is.” [1/?]
>>35875392S’Bon returns to the marsh.“We have to hurry!” You shout. Sarah runs back to the three guards to collect them. The five of you run off to the miasma. Your group picks up the tracks of a group of people and follow them for a few minutes. The more you run the more your surroundings grow clouded. Your group stops briefly to make sure you’re still headed in the right direction.“Wait.” Albert wheezes “This is happening to fast, I feel nauseous.” “I hate to stop when we just started to have fun, but I feel nauseous too.” Rena squats holding her stomach. “We’re inside the miasma already. I don’t do too well in it.” She begins to wretch. Maybe you got in over your head charging straight into the miasma. You forget that not everyone handles it as well as you and Sarah.“Where’s Vincent!?” Albert yells in a panic. “He was behind us the whole time. Where did he go?”A short spear flies from the miasma and sticks into Rena’s arm. She screams in pain.Albert shouts wildly. He takes out his sword and charges into the miasma. “Stop!” Sarah yells at him, but you’ve already lost sight of him.[2/3]
>>35875419You and Sarah form around Rena, shields out. You can’t see more than a few feet in front of you. Then out of the mist you see three dark figures approach you. Three dark blue-humanoid figures with opalescent and gelatinous skin. All three of them are armed with primitive spears. One throws a spear at Sarah which she reflexively blocks. One attempts to hurl one at you but misses. They charge, sliding on the wet ground quickly. You and Sarah react by spreading out slightly, putting Rena in between your backs. They split off, two on Sarah’s side, one on yours. The undine is soon upon you, he lunges wildly forward with great speed. You respond by>Blocking his attacking and then slashing with your sword.>Blocking his attack and then disarming him>Dodging his attacking and then countering with a slash>Write in.

>>35875788Good job, m8.
>>35875859Inexperienced, you’re guessing he was.You raise your shield to block his attack. His stab had strength behind it but it lacked any technique. Your block rattles his spear arm and sends him off balance. You see your opening. You slash hard directly on his neck, his gelatinous skin trying desperately to stop your blade, but a satisfying meaty cut lets you know you hit your mark. He stops in his tracks, clutching at his neck as a deep purple fluid begins to pour out of it, he crashes to the floor, gurgling. The fear still remains in his eyes after he is dead. You turn to see the other two undine still attacking. You notice they don’t appear to be attacking Sarah directly. They are trying to finish off Rena, but Sarah is denying their advance. Sarah exploits one of the undine’s overzealousness by piercing directly through his face with her new spear. From the miasma you see another undine approach. He readies a long spear to throw, Sarah is busy blocking attacks, while Rena has gone unconscious from bleeding. You have to act>Guard Sarah>Guard Rena>Write in.

>>35876311They’re too far apart to block guard both of them. You rush to protect Sarah, you see the undine throw the spear and quickly throws another one. You make it barely in time to block his spear from reaching Sarah. The impact pounds your arm through the shield.Sarah is safe. The second spear lands directly in Rena’s chest, the crunching sound audible to your ears. She wheezes terribly and gasps for air that her lungs cannot catch anymore. She drags her body to you and Sarah, pleading with her tear soaked eyes, her small hands reach out to you and Sarah. She stops. A desperate gurgling sound is the last sound she makes before dying. “No!” Sarah screams as she presses her attack on the undine. You charge the new undine with righteous fury. He readies his spear and stabs at your approach. You dodge and return the attack and thrust your sword through the side of his head.Sarah had already made short work of her opponent. You both look upon Rena’s corpse. More figures start to approach in the distance from the Miasma.“We have to get out of here!” You whisper desperately to Sarah. She looks at Rena one last time and then lowers her head. “You’re right, but we have to look for Vincent and Albert first.” She replies >Deny her. >Search for them>Write in
>>35876744Wow, so she's dead just like that. What the fuck.
I'd like to know why you guys voted to defend the person who could quite possibly defend herswelf just fine and leave the wounded person open to die.
>>35876839Both of them couldn't protect from it.
>>35876744>Search for them.Tough call.
>>35876866Sarah knows how to dodge. Rena was unconscious and wounded.
>>35876839Because the one Sarah was fighting was trying to hit Rena, not Sarah. IE: Sarah was defending Rena. Seemed reasonable at the time.
>>35876898Sarah was busy dealing with the other Undines.
Yeah, nah. Sarah's shown tthat she can be quite fast, she could have easily positioned herself so that the one she was fighting was in the way of the spears. All we had to do was yell out to her.You guys just needlessly got somebody killed.

>>35877059Well how about you show us how to play properly then by voting on the current situation.
>>35877142“They went in different directions, we can’t get both of them. We can search for one, but both would probably just get us killed.” You whisper to SarahSarah furrows her brow in thought. She sighs “Let’s go.”You search wildly through the thick miasma for any sign of Vincent or Albert. More and more undine patrol through the marsh. Many minutes later and you’ve still not located either of the guards.“We can’t search for much longer. You’re going to start getting disorientated soon, and I won’t be able to get us both out” You say to Sarah, but she doesn’t respond. The two of you reach the edge of miasma cloud.“There!” Sarah points at two undine attempting to drag Vincent as he struggles under his bindings.“Stop struggling, filth.” One of the undine shouts as he smacks Vincent with his spear. They start to drag him back to the miasma.“We have to hurry and stop them before they get further in.” Sarah whispers “But we have to be careful with how we approach or else they may just kill him outright.”>Sneak up and attack them before they know what’s going on>Charge before they can make it any further in>Pretend you’re injured while Sarah ambushes them off-guard>Write-in

>>35877815You quickly explain your plan to Sarah. She agrees to it. You run around and in front of the two undine. “Stop, human!” One of them yells at you as you pass by. You do your best to look injured and panicked.“NO! Please no more!” You collapse to your knees and pretend to sob.“Just finish her off. We’ve got more than we need.” One of the undines says coldly. “No don’t!” You crawl back positioning Sarah directly behind them. One of the undines lets go of Vincent and approaches you. “What a pathetic way for you to go, filth.” He says as pulls out his spear. Before he can, you jump up and thrust your sword upwards though his chest. He lets out a gasp and then collapses. The distracted undine doesn’t see Sarah’s approach as she stabs directly though his back and throws him on the ground. A pool of purple blood forms around him and flows to Vincent. You cut through Vincent’s bindings and help him up.“Thank you. I didn’t know what happened. I knocked me out from behind.” He rubs his tender head. “I just really want to go home." He laughs. Where’s Rena and Albert?” Your stomach drops. “Albert ran off as soon as we got ambushed. Rena…” Sarah pauses and looks away “We couldn’t protect her. She’s dead.”“Dead!?” Vincent stops and looks at his hands “B-but this was going to be the mission where she got promoted to squad leader.” He looks at you. “She didn’t even want to be a guard! She was just doing it to feed her sisters!” Vincent yells “She was going to treat Albert and me to dinner after we got back! She can’t be dead!” Tears form in his eyes. You look at Vincent with no words. Then something catches your eye behind him. Another undine readies a spear to throw at Vincent’s back. “Watch out!” You shout Sarah had already reacted before your shout and threw her spear the attacker.Roll 1d20, best result.

>>35878549Sarah’s spear flew through the air, directly toward the undine. Hitting him square in the chest even before he could let his spear go. “There’s too many. We have to leave now.” You say to Vincent as Sarah goes to collect her spear. While it seems like he’s still in shock, he follows your lead as you and Sarah leave this cursed mist behind you. It’s a silent, solemn trek back to town. Neither Sarah nor Vincent uttered a word, and you had nothing to say yourself. It was well into the night when the three of you reached the village gates. Vincent went his own way without saying a word. You and Sarah walked quietly back to guild building. “There was nothing we could have done…” you trail off before finishing your sentence. You didn’t believe it yourself so there was no point in conveying it to Sarah.“I just hope Glen and Jin had better luck.” Sarah quietly mutters as you both stop in front of the guild building. “I hope so too.” You open the door and step inside.I'm calling it here for today as trick or treaters are starting to come in quite the numbers right now and I can't really focus as much as I would like. Thank you very much to everyone who played today. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to ask. I plan for the next quest to start at around the same time this Sunday.https://twitter.com/QM_Auri (Twitter)http://pastebin.com/u/QMAuri (Character Sheets)http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=miasma+quest (Previous Threads)
