>Previous Threads: Sweet Monkey Jesus the Archives are a Mess edition:>http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Known%20SpaceYou are Michael Greystone: BOLO Supertank Commander turned Free Trader, Smuggler, borderline Outlaw, and more recently Interstellar Folk Hero. You have been given Governorship over the Megacorp-chartered Mining Colony of Tempest. Your duty is to manage your colony effectively, pay off your debt to AAA Planetary Industries and the host of smaller entities that funded this venture, protect your fledgling world from any threats that come your way, and build the foundations for a shining example of what a Commonwealth World can be.Right now, having solved most of the immediate crisis, you have a number of secondary concerns clamoring for your attention. Not for the first time, you begin to wish you were the sort of man who could ignore his duties and spend all day in your luxurious Governors chambers with a truckload of fine alcohol and a rotating staff of finer prostitutes. To top it all off, you've got word that an "Investigative Task-force" of the Commonwealth Navy is en route, with an ETA of Three Months, to "secure the system" in the wake of the "Pirate Incident". In reality, they're most likely coming to investigate your use of Iron Scythe the "retired" BOLO and probably see if they can find your renegade Cobra. Not much they could do about either, but subtlety is probably better than a diplomatic policy of "Deal with it, Bitches" at this early stage. Now, onto the agenda:>You have enough Simulcra Kits for 12 first-class Arenas>You have 100 Havelholme Class Bulk Freighters in orbit, held together by duct tape>James wants to speak with you about continuing the Rach War>Spires former "Special Slaves" have been awoken from Cryo safely, and several want to meet you>The Toolbox Doctors want to speak with you>The Brotherhood Representative wants to speak with you >Action?
>>35617055>>Spires former "Special Slaves" have been awoken from Cryo safely, and several want to meet you>James wants to speak with you about continuing the Rach War
>>35617055>The Toolbox Doctors want to speak with you
>>35617055>James wants to speak with you about continuing the Rach WarThe War takes precedent but we can listen to everyone else afterwards.
>>35617055Note a vote but>You have enough Simulcra Kits for 12 first-class ArenasYou mentioned before that simulcra ARE good enough to be used as assassins vs brain bugs when I asked. With the right recording, we can make that into entertainment AND a useful weapon at the same time.OR we can forget about arenas and instead use them to make a military division. specifically using them as military drones.
>>35617055In order:>Spires former "Special Slaves" have been awoken from Cryo safely, and several want to meet you>James wants to speak with you about continuing the Rach War>The Toolbox Doctors want to speak with you>The Brotherhood Representative wants to speak with you>You have 100 Havelholme Class Bulk Freighters in orbit, held together by duct tape>You have enough Simulcra Kits for 12 first-class Arenas (assuming we don't resolve this with james by turning them into a military division instead)
>>35617055>Spires former "Special Slaves" have been awoken from Cryo safely, and several want to meet you
>>35617312Maybe both. Trained soldiers use them to kill Rach, and it gets broadcasted for $$$.http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Governors_Quest Btw
>>35617483that makes the most sense, especially because we have the schematics to produce more.
>>35617483Maybe we could set up a Tempest Military channel? In addition to that, we can have things like war documentaries. Which should be plausible to make when we bought all the libraries and the galactic encyclopedia. But it should emphasize the Tempest military first and foremost.I dunno, some publicly owned channels seem like a good way to bring in some early revenue before private networks take off.
In one of your capitols Autodoc Clinics, in the process of being expanded to make room for the real medical personnel who will soon be moving in, are a number of the modified Cryo-Caskets you recovered from Spires Cache, with about 40 people still milling around within. Dian meets you at the entrance."Thank you for coming down, Governor. About half the slaves left with the Free Traders, trying to get back home or somewhere near, but half stayed behind. We've got a good cross-section of technical and medical skills here, including a number of scientists who joined up with McArthurs people. Almost all of the Gene-Mods and Androids decided to stay as well. Here are the ones that wanted to meet you personally."The crowd that approaches you is diverse, but uniformly haggard. Men and women alike who look worn down and tired from extended Cryo-Suspension, with a handful of fresh looking individuals who are undoubtedly Bio-Androids.In a whirl of tired handshakes and heartfelt thank-yous, you meet engineers, Doctors, Nurses, a physicist, and others with skills that could be marketed to a Border Baron with cash in hand. Two, however, stand out: A man who claims to be a Cyborg specialized for work as a spy, and a short, rotund Gene-Bred Statistician, who wants to work for your administrative department. You send one to James and the other Charles, and walk away feeling warm and fulfilled, like you've made a difference in this world.>Unfortunately I'm going to have to go AFK for a while. Hammer out future plans in the meantime, to save on discussion time later.

Are we going to hide the Simulcra Kits or just leave them in storage when the investigation task force comes here? Or start using them?
>>35617887they are legal here
>>35617887They're not universally illegal, so we won't get in to any official trouble for using them.
>>35617732feels good manwell, I think we should go with>>35617483>>35617312for the simulcra. using them for both arenas and warfare. The rest is just a question of who to visit next. I am thinking james.
Well, I imagine the Mammoth Tank looks like this, unless it's a reference to another series.
>>35618038>>35617930Yeah. I imagine they care about Cobra only because he probably started shit at the trade station & before that. That, and being a fugitive. >>35618038With textures
>>35618059There's still the problem of our use of Iron Scythe in a combat role. They're likely going to make a big fuss about the control locks being released. We also need to better hide the BOLO weaponry and Spider. We still have the smuggling cache; we might be able to fit the BOLO weapons and Spider in it, if we install it and make sure that it looks like it fits in.
>>35618389>Put spider in a boxno. He can hide himself>put bolo weapons in boxneat idea>scythe control locksDon't tell them? have scythe pretend to do some mining while they are here?>use of scythe in combati think the main issue is that it is currently fitted with simple off the shelf weapons. we can take those off.also, remember they are here to check up on our fight with the slavers and pirates. that is pretty much confined to the ships in orbit.
>>35618389Well it's not like they can search the entire planet, or will be able to tell about the locks without them jacking in. BOLO Legions are independent of the Commonwealth Navy too.I have an idea of what I want to say to the brotherhood. We should allow it unofficially, and only enough to not get noticed. If we get noticed by a major player in the Commonwealth when we're still the size of a small city, we throw them under the bus. Simply because we have an obligation to the people already here and we're pretty vulnerable when we're the size of a small city.Maybe we could ask the Navy about the xeno ships we encountered? I forgot, but we should've asked the Free Traders
>>35618389Well, even if they found out we used the BOLO to attack the hives? It's pretty obvious to me IMO we were under extenuating circumstances in needing to set up and secure our colony when there were major hives on and off the continent. So if that does get leaked while they're here, we can explain that to them.
>>35618545its not illegal really, the problem is that people won't sell us more bolos if they know we do itthere is always extenuating consequencesalthough i guess we could lie and promise to disarm it once the rach are dead, it still won't really assuage their fears.I think what we should do is focus with them on the fights against the pirates and the slavers. Misdirection by swamping them with info to sort through.all the thousands of the technician slaves in the pirate ships, etc
>>35618545They'll most likely be bureaucrats, and the only time a bureaucrat understands extenuating circumstances is when it gives them more power. So lets not spill the beans. Don't mention the improvised weapons and if they ask, tell them we used it to mine out the hives.
>>35618511>BOLO Legions are independent of the Commonwealth Navy too.The BOLO Legions also work actively with the Commonwealth to make sure that all combat-effective BOLO's stay in the Legions, and that a Legion and Colonial Marine Taskforce are immediately deployed to flatten anyone trying to reactivate a decommed BOLO.
>>35618630No, they won't flatten the people trying to reactivate a BOLO, they simply make sure they can't get anymore decommed BOLO's.
>>35618602>They'll most likely be bureaucrats, and the only time a bureaucrat understands extenuating circumstances is when it gives them more power.its funny because its truetoo bad we spent all our money. bribes might have been useful here.
>>35618630>>35618630it depends on the situation, you guys are mixing up two different thingsif a private person gets a bolo and arms it, they flatten him.as a colonial government we can make it legal for us to do, but in such a case we will be blocked from getting more.
>>35618701We didn't actually spend any money yet.I say we ask them about the xeno ships to throw them off track, and for intel. As for bribing? We can dine them out. Maybe mention we"ll be looking to hire some ex-navy personnel (implicitly offering them a cozy position if/when they retire). Or worst comes to worse? Discounted fuel/repairs if they ever come to our sticks of the woods again. There's more than one way to bribe a person.Shouldnt they actually be arriving on the same month as the Free Traders? In three months, we can get legitimate mining equipment and footage of Iron Scythe being used for mining.
>>35618784>We didn't actually spend any money yet.what do you think was all that selling and buying with the free merchants anon?
>>35618812All we did was send out a message. We"ll have income by the time we get people looking to join the Tempest Navy, and by the time the Commonwealth Navy arrives
>>35618868we have 1Cwe expect to have 10C by the time they arrive5C was promised in bonusesI don't see 5C being a real good bribe, also bribing here seems like it can catastrophically backfire.
>>35619002You have to remember as well that they have spys within our advisers as well and its possible they have informants in the populace. Trying to bribe them would be a bad idea.
>>35619077rightactually, the mercs! the mercs are here to watch over us.and the liason, one of our council is explicitly here to watch us.so yea, bribe is awful idea.
>>35619120>>35619077>Maybe mention we"ll be looking to hire some ex-navy personnel (implicitly offering them a cozy position if/when they retire). Or worst comes to worse? Discounted fuel/repairs if they ever come to our sticks of the woods again. There's more than one way to bribe a person. There's more subtle ways like this to get on their good side than directly giving them cash
I'm not going to be back fully for a bit, but here's a fairly time consuming thing to get out of the way in the meantime:LEVEL UPAfter accomplishing a number of goals, engaging in heavy combat, and doing other noteworthy things, you have gone up a level. You have 3 EXP. Each of the following costs one:BOLO Command-Upgrading this will bring you to the next level of mental partnership with your BOLO, each truly becoming an extension of the other in battle.Tactical Training: Basic ground small-unit tactics trainingSpace Combat Training: Enhance your practical trial-and-error experience with a basic course in commanding a fighting ship.Xenostudies: Study up on the various alien races of the galaxy.Basic Kzinti: A basic understanding of the Kzinti language, enough to make yourself roughly understood.SKILL Improvements: Each will lower the threshold for success on a skill check by 5, so improving one once will let you succeed on a roll involving that skill on 45 or more instead of the previous 50 or more. Buying it twice will lower that to 40. You cannot upgrade again without receiving specialist training or receiving augments.Brawling/Dirty Street FightingImprovised WeaponsKnife FightingFirearms Training.FencingFormal Martial ArtsNEW SKILLS:Basic Long-Range MarksmanshipHostile Environment Survival>Choose Wisely
>>35619228Tactical TrainingXenostudiesBasic Kzinti
>>35619120>>35619077Exactly. So what we need to do is hide the BOLO weapons, tell Spider where he can lay low, and figure out how we're going to bullshit the anti-combat locks that we removed from Iron Scythe. And we should know in-character whether what we did with him (take him to the Rach hives and mine into them) would get the Commonwealth and the BOLO Legions to prevent us from getting any more BOLOs.>>35619228Gameroom, please answer the above question. Also, what's the difference between >Firearms Training.and >Basic Long-Range Marksmanship
>>35619228>BOLO Command-Upgrading this will bring you to the next level of mental partnership with your BOLO, each truly becoming an extension of the other in battle.>Xenostudies: Study up on the various alien races of the galaxy.>Basic Kzinti: A basic understanding of the Kzinti language, enough to make yourself roughly understood.Tactical and space combat can be handled by our generals.Personal combat is nice, but not as good as the above. We really should get enhanced into a super soldier ASAP.
>>35619228Going to go with the basic ones sadly:>BOLO Command-Upgrading this will bring you to the next level of mental partnership with your BOLO, each truly becoming an extension of the other in battle.>Tactical Training: Basic ground small-unit tactics training>Space Combat Training: Enhance your practical trial-and-error experience with a basic course in commanding a fighting ship.I could be convinced to drop the BOLO one due to not being able to use it for the foreseeable future, but I'm hoping we can use it in the future for special missions that are outside of Commonwealth oversight. Just to make sure, Skill improvements cost 1 XP just like the general stuff, right?
>>35619275But James and Georg can both handle the coordination of units and small unit tactics. We're the only one who can interface with a BOLO.Shouldn't we specialize in the thing only we can do, and let our subordinates shore up our weaknesses?
>>35619228Whats formal martial arts? Just CQC?>BOLO Command >Firearms Training>Space CombatBOLO is obvious. Firearms is so we don't die in personal combat. Space Combat because we're obviously going to be looking for xeno treasure and shit.
>>35619289>bullshit the anti-combat locks that we removed from Iron Scythe.we didn't remove it, we disengaged it.we can reengage it and disengage it at will.if it comes to that, we can temporary reengage itthe problem is actually that even if we do this coverup, there are spies in our cabinetthen again, they are loyal to our corporate sponsors and these are commonwealth inspectors.
>>35619228OP, I request you take the 3 most popular skills instead of a list.
>>35619320>But James and Georg can both handle the coordination of units and small unit tactics.>We're the only one who can interface with a BOLO.>Shouldn't we specialize in the thing only we can do, and let our subordinates shore up our weaknesses?exactly.
>>35619348I agree. in some scenarios a list makes senseIn THIS case though, a list does not.
>>35619228I'm disappointed there's no Dodge skill.>BOLO>Hostile Environment>Space Combat
>>35619357>>35619320But, it's true that there are going to be sidequests to go on, very hostile ones, and we may not be able to bring certain people with us.We have to find those lost Kzinettes after all.
>>35619305most useful skills
>>35619228>BOLO Command>Xenostudies>Space Combat Training
>>35619228>BOLO Command-Upgrading>Xenostudies:>Hostile Environment Survival
>>35619289Long-Range Marksmanship is sniping at long range, while firearms handling improves your skills with close-to-medium range firefights.>>35619306Correct.>>35619324A formal evolution of various Eastern Martial Arts practiced by Legion Commanders. Designed to strengthen mind and body as much as fighting, it features a number of disabling, but non-lethal holds and chokes, as well as various forms to re-direct an enemies blows and use the weight of a more powerful opponent against him.Brawling, on the other hand, is the messy art of dirty street fighting, where you're trying to hurt or kill the enemy as fast as possible without being surrounded and stomped by his buddies or killed by a concealed weapon.>>35619338They were removed completely by the Hackers, to prevent visiting Legion officials from re-engaging them and locking them down so you can't remove them.Take your time deciding, I'm not going to be able to post properly for another 20 minutes at least. Sorry about that, tonight just wasn't a good night early on.
>>35619228We're likely going to be going to space so:>Space Combat>BOLO Because it's a planetary siege unit.>Xenostudies>>35619599Any chance of getting a colony management or economics skill in the future? Or haggling
>>35619228>Basic Kzinti:Xenostudies:BOLO Command
>>35619338>we didn't remove it, we disengaged it.No, we removed it.Confirmation from OP:>>35619599>They were removed completely by the Hackers, to prevent visiting Legion officials from re-engaging them and locking them down so you can't remove them.So we do have to figure out how to fool Legion officials that the locks are still there and effective.
>>35619228>BOLO Command>XenostudiesThese two are obligatory in my opinion for obvious reasons. Now the third one is a toss up. Tactical Training to improve our command skills, what with being on a BOLO it may be helpful. Some sort of Skill improvement may be nice as well. We are also gonna be pretty important to the K in the future so learning Kzinti may be worthwhile.
>>35619228I'm counting:>BOLO: 8>Tactical: 2>Xenostudies:6>Kzinti: 3>Space: 5>Firearm: 1>Hostile: 2I think OP should close votes. Not much discussion atm anyway.BOLO, Xenostudies & Space seems to win.
>>>35619338Baisc Kziniti : without sayingSpace Combat Training : We are not in a nice area of space, and will likely need to understand some things, will also help us understand what our fleet can and can't do.BOLO Command
>>35619748Gonna go with Basic Kziniti for my third choice.
>>35619748I don't think we need more Kzinti yet IMO, since we have Ras and they're still less than 1% of the population. What we need is knowledge to survive in ground combat (BOLO), space combat since we're surely going to be going space exploring again (Space Combat), diplomacy skills (Xeno, Kzinti) and skills for personal combat (obvious).Thing is we have to prioritize what we need now. BOLO is useful since we"ll be fighting Rach hordes again. Space is because of xenos and finding treasure. Diplomacy & personal combat skills are both useful too. The first for deals and stuff, the latter to not die.>>35619599Do we get a Destiny Point yet?
>>35619415>But, it's true that there are going to be sidequests to go on, very hostile ones, and we may not be able to bring certain people with us.we are a colonial governor.why won't we be able to bring our people with us?
>>35619830>Space is because of xenos and finding treasure.space can be done by other people for uslike a navy officer we are getting>Diplomacy & personal combat skills are both useful toowe have soldiers for killing people so personal combat skills are the least usefuli don't see a diplomacy option
>>35619963Because they might be needed at home to keep things running while we go off on adventure.
>>35619769I am counting 5 votes for the kzinitiyou didn't count the two "this" votes.
>>35619228>BOLO>Space Combat>Formal Martial Arts
>>35620068 hereI think we should get martial arts since it fits fluff wise as us being an ex-BOLO commander. Plus, it will help us take people alive.
>>35619228Basic Kzinti:Xenostudies:BOLO Command
>>35619228Bolo, Space, and Brawling please.
OP needs vote timers, since it's been at least half an hour of voting. Which means samefagging can be rife.
>>35620262Once OP get's back we should do the rapidfire strict votes that prevent samefagging. This is a little too important not to.
>>35620360Maybe just strawpoll, with a 5min limit?
>>35620389Would work for me, though I know some of 4chan doesn't like strawpoll because it collect info on your IP.
I really don't think Kzinti is necessary when we have Ras. They're also such a small minority in our population that I think it'd be a waste of XP compared to something we could use more often.Like shooting, CQC or broader xeno knowledge.>>35620442Maybe just a vote of 5min on here, but you just copy paste what you want in vertical order with nothing else but quoting the vote post. No greentext arrows or anything else.1 BOLO Command2 Tactical Training3 Space Combat4 Xenostudies5 Basic Kzinti6 Brawling/Dirty Street Fighting7 Improvised Weapons8 Knife Fighting9 Fencing10 Formal Martial Arts11 Basic Long-Range Marksmanship12 Hostile Environment SurvivalWhich can we eliminate in advance from voting? I think Improvised, Knife Fighting, Fencing & Marksmanship since they got no votes to begin with. That would leave us with 8 votes.Maybe we can do a process of elimination through discussion before voting?
>>35620515One more rule, the votes must have the options in order, that way you can't samefag, using a different order but the same options.
>>35619228Knife FightingSpace Combat TrainingBOLO Command-Upgrading
>>35620515Expanding on this:1: I see a short-term need for this because of Rach.2: No need, since we're not an NCO. We just need personal combat skills IMO.3: Could be useful as an Ex-Free Trader, and we're likely going to be put in situations where we're on a ship. Even with an officer, our own rolling can help.4: Useful5: Useful, but we have Ras and we don't have a significant Ras colony on our planet. I dont see this as useful in the short term.Personal combat skills are all useful but I think we should reduce it to two voting choices. I think Firearms should be there, and then one melee option. Personally, I'd prefer Martial Arts since it's a BOLO Legion skill that also helps with linking up to it.12: Survival is important on an unbreathable alien planet.

>>35621324>>35621393As for the antisamefag technique. its based on the fact that 4chan doesn't let an IP make an identical post within 5 minutes. its typically called contentious voting and is done like soSo for major votes a QM will say>10 minutes discussion followed by 5 minute contentious vote when I call it>Contentious voting rules: for where a vote attracts an oddly high amount of votes and the vote itself appears to be contentious. The QM will either discard some very suspicious votes (the rare option) or declare a new vote with harsh rules. This new vote requires voters to quote the QM's new post on one line and post with a number (e.g. 1) with no other text at all (no greentexting etc). All votes not adhering to these rules will be discarded. Voting will last 5 minutes from the first vote. The thing is, that system is not 100% effective, as people can vote with phone or change their IP (depending on their ISP this might be easy or hard)
>>35621470Still takes time. It's hard to stop samefagging completely, so the best we can do is limit it.

Boy catches on quick."What we need to make this continent safe enough to allow for settlement outside of heavily defended Domes is mop-up campaign to eliminate all arachnids within our region and establish a reasonably secure Safe Zone. With seismic scanners borrowed from our mining techs deployed and regular sweeps, we should be able to keep out anything that small groups of Militia with positions on decent rock and walls high enough that they can't be jumped can't handle. Sure, the miniature non-sentient Androids were expensive, meaning that only the wealthy could afford it, but people will pay MONEY for realism."His expression sours, "Of course, some jackass had to kill someone with them. Now, Simulcra aren't terribly effective as assassination devices, too expensive for one thing, but Assassin Drones are so tightly controlled that only the big Megacorps and major Governments could get a hold of them. This creates a situation where the kind of crime lord who has fingers in legitimate businesses, that is, the smart kind, realize that their enemies have no reason to be careful of tiny assassins and send three-inch-tall pre-programmed dumb androids into the mansions of rivals with syringes full of lethal poisons. Of course, after they figured out what was happening, everyone boarded up every tiny hole in their places and bought Anti-Vermin systems, but the damage was done, and soon you have a Hegg, and later Commonwealth, ban on the things, with anyone who can ignore it going right along. Sure, they can be useful if they're unexpected, but in my humble opinion the sport is worth the minor military advantage."James shakes his head, "I disagree. We can't afford to throw out any advantage we have, and we CAN and will ignore bans. I'm thinking we need a good Dirty Tricks division, probably headed by that Cyberspy you picked up in Spires freezer, and these things would be a definite asset. They're cheap compared to Assassin Drones, and capable of operating independently, if not intelligently, until their caloric reserves run out. While I would advocate taking advantage of the potential revenue stream, we should keep a stock handy in case we need them."Kendricks speaks up next, after you outline your idea involving the Brains. "That's... An intriguing idea. I've never heard of a similar attempt, and if it succeeds could be a massive boon for this planet. Further, I'm interested in the origin of this race: There are conflicting histories about their early clashes with man, and some are outlandish in the extreme, can you imagine those things you fought building nuclear land-mines?, and having one to actually communicate with instead of ripping out ancestral memory through crude psychic interrogation would certainly clear up a few mysteries. I think it's worth a shot, but we should wait until we have both an excellent understanding of our tools and observation on the Brains to see when they're going to engage in Mitosis. >>35624852>>35624853>>35624856"All onboard security personnel, please be advised that we will be spotting for a rather close Orbital Missile Strike, and it is recommended that you take cover in as close to center of the BOLO as you can manage.Thank you for traveling Legion Ground Transportation."The round of panicked cursing and jostling coming over the internal audio pickups is amusing, as Mercs and Soldiers scramble through narrow, twisting maintenance corridors to perceived safety."SENSORS INDICATE THAT ALL BABY BIRDS ARE SAFELY NESTLED UNDER MOTHERS WING. OH WAIT, THERE'S ONE LOST. COME TO MOMMY, LITTLE BIRD.""That is disturbing on several levels, Scythe. Orbital Command, this is Comma-Governor Greystone in Mining Unit 1, acting as ground spotter and sensor strike package. A I to assume Ranger Dose?""Affirmative Unit 1, Danger extremely close."The two remaining Bugs clamber around to line up good shots, and begin charging. The one you left lopsided is trying to do the same, but is frustrated by his constant falling. You almost feel bad for it.Six bolts of blue-red fire come streaking out of the sky, white needles at their front, swerving into your canyon and slamming down amongst the Bugs. The explosion is terrific as shrapnel and energy explode outward, annihilating most of the Warrior Caste escort in a fiery storm of metal.Your BOLO rocks hard, he remnants of your improvised weapons blown clean off the hull and several seals broken. None of the offending bugs are hit directly, but all three are down (Or downer) and struggling to rise amidst the charred corpses of their smaller brethren. Such a hard-working community deserves special attention.""Already on it, Unit 1. Enemy originated from the underside of a glacier further up north, apparently some kind of fallback bolt-hole. There were more normal Plasmas guarding it that took potshots at us when we hit it, and we nailed a few VIPs being carried out of the rubble. Gotta be on the lookout for more like this, it's a big world.""That it is, orbital. That it is.">Next time on: GOVERNORS QUEST!>INSPECTIONS! TIMESKIPS! GOVERNOR THINGS! >>35625044Good run. I'm happy you picked up the pace before you decided to slow down the frequency of game days
>>35625044Thanks for the ride, TheGameroom! I'd say sorry I missed out on the earlier thread, but it looked like more bitching/moaning than anything else :v
>>35625044What about the biting assassin drones? Thanks for the thread. It's been fun. I can't wait for this to turn into the long-term strategy game it promises to become.
>>35624243>Kendricks speaks up next, after you outline your idea involving the Brains. "That's... An intriguing idea. I've never heard of a similar attempt, and if it succeeds could be a massive boon for this planet."What idea?Dammit, why do so many QM's presume that everyone can or wants to read all of the discussion? Not everyone participates in quests, some (like me) just like to lurk or read from archives, sometimes voting on minor things. For example, I just started reading this thread. I'm not going to waste time reading player posts, only the updates. When writing updates for quests, write them detached from the discussion, as if it is a standalone story. I especially hate it when QM's simply link to a suggestion (or God forbid, a custom dialog) and write the result of it. Thankfully this does not happen often in this quest.
>>35625083It was this:>>35623780>>35623817
>>35625078It's too late. They're already here.Me too, actually. I sort of departed from how I started PGQ by having you not show up immediately to the planet, and have optional stuff to do after character/colony creation. That may have been a mistake, since it took 7 threads to get through, but now we're going much more into building and defending a world, with occasional side-quests.To answer some concerns from last thread while I'm at it, I was actually dubious about throwing both of those plot-hooks in at the beginning, but I am definitely not just throwing in ideas as soon as I have them. The Chtall is a slow-burning background thing with major implications for the endgame, and the Kzinerettes are more diversionary fetch-quests than anything, which gives you the chance to meet the neighbors on their own turf and understand them better. For example, there is a major hint in this thread, blink and you'll miss it, that eventually shit WILL go down in a major way from an angle you will not expect entirely because of earlier assumptions, and some of the minor backing organizations you owe money too (Actually, about half of them, not including the obvious Unitology) deserve more scrutiny. Some more than others. One a LOT more than others. This is just on Tempest and dealing with fellow humans. Your local Sector is filled with all sorts of FUN!
>>35625083Sorry, I was in a rush there. like I said earlier, I'm still learning some aspects of this, and feedback is appreciated and listened to.
>>35625181How many APCs do we have? I assume they hold 10 people each.But..how many? I'm curious how mechanized our troops are.How many people can we have on Tempest before we're forced to have people settle outside the Domes?
>>35625167I was the one who mentioned those concerns last time. Note that I say "concerns" and not "complaints". So far everything is great, I just feared that the current trend might continue. What I would love to see would be half-year long or year-long time-skips with us playing through some important events. And don't be afraid to have some boring years in-between. Those will just be over more quickly. That way we can spend some years searching for those lost ships, slowly watch our people integrate, all those things. Right now, everything feels so rushed…
>>35625095thanksThe point still stands though, it is especially frustrating when reading from archives where you cannot ask anymore. If it is not in the immediate discussion (ie, I have to really search for it), I usually don't bother and skip it not knowing what was going on in that update. Too much of these kind of things and the quest becomes unenjoyable. Which would be a shame, as I like the premise of this quest.
>>35625167For some scenarios, maybe you could get inspiration from Nationstates. All their scenarios should be available on a wiki I bet. So you could have some ideas on colony issues.>>35625244Yeah, I can get that.
>>35625215You have enough to Mechanize two thirds of your Army, the math on which i would do if I weren't trying to keep my face off the keyboard. APCs actually hold 16 people, being much more efficient with engine size. You could increase your population by about 20% before you seriously run out of room, but every three months (Starting with the coming Timeskip) AAA will be selling you additional Hab Domes and other equipment that they're bound by law to not price-gouge you on, like Mag-Lev trains and additional Autofactories and Tri-Rifles. Think of them as the regular goods merchant. Reliable, but mundane, and the Traders as specialists who can find you odd items on request and bring collections of random junk to sell you: Sometimes trash, sometimes treasure, mostly in between somewhere.
>>35625226Well, it's been a little over three months of incredibly busy in-game time. What you just described is exactly where I'm going, and was supposed to start far sooner.>>35625244I can see that. I always liked reading the player discussion myself, so it didn't occur to me intuitively that it might be a pain to others, but I'll keep an eye on that.>>35625248I loved Nationstates, but always wound up having to leave the Internets for weeks at a time, and returning to imploded nations in fiery ruins. I'll try to keep the Unintended Consequences under control, though.
