>Previous Threads:>http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Known%20SpaceYou are Michael Greystone: BOLO Supertank Commander turned Free Trader, Smuggler, borderline Outlaw, and more recently Interstellar Folk Hero. You have been given Governorship over the Megacorp-chartered Mining Colony of Tempest. Your duty is to manage your colony effectively, pay off your debt to AAA Planetary Industries and the host of smaller entities that funded this venture, protect your fledgling world from any threats that come your way, and build the foundations for a shining example of what a Commonwealth World can be.The bleached skull of a vanquished enemy hanging on a decorative iron chain from the entryway to your Capitol from the Sky-El, showing its macabre grim to all travelers and immigrants, might not seem like a proper first step on endeavor, but you disagree.Work has been hard these last three months, as the flood of Colonists disembarking from the Harvest of Tomorrow are put to labor erecting Hab-Domes, setting up mining sites and Terraforming Atmosphere-Processing Towers. Intermittent attacks by small swarms of Rach warriors have so far been fended off with light casualties by Militia and, in the case of larger attacks, quick-reaction Mercenaries and Tempest Army units. The rush-order of Terraforming-Aid Thermal Bombs arrived only weeks after Jack sent word on the private AAA Courier attached to your Colony, and already The Storm is visible from orbit and growing, along with a rapid rise in sea levels from guided ice-asteroids, which has resulted in many Arachnids either drowning or being dried out via orbital death strike after crowding on the new shorelines. On the personnel front, you aren't get nearly as many problems integrating the Colonists as you thought, the exiled Neo-Tokyo underclasses and genetically modified untouchables generally being too tired to start trouble with the equally exhausted Jeffersonian migrants.>CONT
>>35574609However, you've already had incidents of self-styled 'New Yakuza" attempting to intimidate former New Montana ranchers and getting bullet wounds in return. Everyone receives the same training, but that's not enough to eliminate the difference between men from a culture of hunting and sharpshooting, many former PDF or even Commonwealth Army, and small-time gangsters used to succeeding or failing through liberal application of short-range fire and bravado. Incidents have been limited so far, but there will be more bloodshed, and soon, if nothing is done.
>>35574654>I keep running into Field Too Long errors, which I can't fix without breaking up paragraphs or several really short posts.Frankly, you're not sure if you can muster sympathy for the New Yakuza and their ilk. While the Jeffersonians have been extremely enthusiastic, whether erecting Hab-Domes or taking up defensive positions against Rach swarming out of the Outback, completing many of their construction assignments and other work ahead of schedule, the Neo-Tokyo Colonists have been on the whole not overly motivated, generally accepting their duty with the kind of dull resignation exhibited by death-row inmates being marched to the execution room. This being on top of the aforementioned gangs constantly disrupting work detail with their petty, and sometimes violent, bickering, harassment of the "civvies", which more and more often leads to more violence as the harassed discover that the gangs aren't as scary when they're not the only people around with assault rifles, and constant attempts at stealing tools and materials in the hopes that they'll find somewhere, God knows where, to sell them later. You almost think that they're just stealing shit out of reflex, clinging to a little bit of home (That is, the petty crime part of it) in the face of a daunting change in surroundings. Thankfully, most have them have been smart enough to not directly confront your Soldiers, although those few that, have under the mistaken impression that they're the same easily scared and corrupt enforcers common to Frontier worlds, have provided excellent examples to their fellow via their highly efficient and unceremonious demise.
>>35574692Rather unsurprisingly, to you, the exceptions have been mostly among the Bio-Androids, uplifted animals, genetically-altered prostitutes, and some political dissenters. For the most part they are overjoyed at being set free from the Corporate nightmare of Neo-Tokyo, and many seem to have been infected by the Jeffersonians writings and talk of the virtues of freedom on the Frontier, partially due to their new politically outspoken neighbors being generally more accepting of them as people than many of their world-kin.You've also had a few surprises from among the Neo-Tokyo Colonists. The first being that many members of the infamous Toolbox Doctors and the Brotherhood were scooped up by the Megacorp press-gangs. The first are a set of "renegade" doctors, who re-swear to a modified Hippocratic Oath and dedicate their lives to fighting perversions of medicine. They can be found on many populous worlds, attempting to sabotage Bio-Weapons projects, removing cranial tracking chips from indentured workers and escaped illegal slaves, breaking down mental condition, running clinics to help slaves recover from forced addictions to various drugs and filtering latent poisons from their bodies, and generally making a nuisance of themselves to powerful and ruthless individuals and groups. On the trip to Tempest, they were able to break the chemically induced "heat" and implanted conditioning to be submissive and obedient towards those designated "master" or "customer", as well as removing control chips from many of the Bio-Androids and helping indentured workers thrown onto the street by Aeon Ltd. overcome their addictions to the Corporate-Distributed Control drugs.
>God dammit, I just accidenatlly deleted the rest of my pre-written intro and I can't find any saves. Give me a minute to write it back up.
>>35574792Waait. What about the Kzin confrontation? Like the dream (her possibly being a telepath), looking at logs to find out where Spire found the goodies since we forgot to ask him?
>>35574654Do we have a valuation of the currency and gems taken from Spire's Stash?Have we an accounting of the people that were a part of it?Also, while searching through Spire's quarters at the former Flesh Bazaar, did we find any records as to where he might have picked up the Kzinette's?>>35574730Do the Toolbox Doctors have a leader of any kind? We might want to meet with them about appropriating certain funds to building a hospital.>>35574692As to the New Yakuza, I'm conflicted. From a pragmatic stance, it might be better to let them operate, so long as they abide by the old Yakuza code:Protect the WeakDon't do violent crimesDon't openly operate Keep criminals in checkOn the other hand, tacit approval of a criminal organization rubs me the wrong way.
http://pastebin.com/itfWLrew Here. It's been updated with a list of our staff and things from the last thread.
>>35574831if they are anything like the modern yaks then they are scum and act like gangbangers
>>35574886>if they are anything like the modern yaks then they are scumWell, yeah. I'm just offering them a chance to not get purged violently. Either by our soldiers or by the citizens themselves when we announce that all Yakuza are outlaws and that their killings will not be punished by the law.
>>35574730The Brotherhood are a militant affiliated organization, dedicated to fighting slavery in all its forms. They can be found attempting to break Core-World sex slave rings, organizing breakouts in backwater Gulags, and helping escaped Bio-Androids, Uplifts, and other genetic "untouchables" reach safety. Many of their agents on Neo-Tokyo were unknowingly scooped up by the Megacorp Press-Gangs, and deposited on Tempest. You've received several requests for meetings on the possibility of Tempest becoming one of the sadly rare final destinations of the Brotherhood Underground Railroad. At the moment, however, you're just concerned with getting your colony up and running. With the unusually well-trained state of your Colonists, plus the overtime put in by many Jeffersonians, you've been able to complete the bare bones ahead of schedule. With this unusually speedy finish, you've been able to use the extra time to:>Get the Automated Factories installed and working.>Get the mining shafts set up ahead of schedule, starting off your colony with an early and extra large payment to AAA.>Fully assembling the Tradestation, dubbed 'Cyclone' by workers, and bringing all its systems online>Bringing the Couldscoop up to full operational capacity.>Deploying the Terraforming Atmosphere-Processing towers and associated bases and fortifying them against Rach incursions.>Getting started on the assembly and installment of the Sky-El>Choose One.
>>35574886If they're smart, they"ll move onto things not actually (yet) illegal, like some mobsters did. Such as opening casinos.>>35574961I'm tempted to go with mining, terraforming and factories in that order. Thoughts?
>>35574961>>Deploying the Terraforming Atmosphere-Processing towers and associated bases and fortifying them against Rach incursions.
>>35574961Im thinking the Automated Factories
>>35574815>>35574831>This will be dealt with in a moment. For now, assume that you've been too busy with the hectic settling of your new world to deal with anything else, and you've put it all on hold.>Well, this was a generally jacked-up intro. And here I thought I'd be able to start on time for once.
>>35574998we can only pick one
>>35574961>Bringing the Couldscoop up to full operational capacity. While everything else is needed, now that three months have passed, this is when our Free Trader friends are expected to arrive.I'd prefer to have our refueling station ready to provide them with cheap fuel when they arrive with news about whether they were able to find us some BOLO weapons or not.
>>35575064shit your right>>35575001switching my vote here to that guys
>>35575022I know. Just wondering what you guys think we should do. I think the mining thing will get us off to a good foot with AAA, but I really like the idea of fortifying those processing towers.>>35574961>Get the mining shafts set up ahead of schedule, starting off your colony with an early and extra large payment to AAA.>>35575015The other stuff, too. Like a formal ceremony, setting up govt. and other things mentioned last thread. Like getting those ID chips removed, and making sure the BOLO is 100% safe since we didn't wait 72 hours.
>>35574886If they kept to a code of conduct and we kept an eye on them with mutual representives we could make sure the underworld and black markets ran smoothly without problem. As those damned things always exist no matter how hard you stamp them out...just makes them dig deeper. While you kill the 'unfit' the rest of survivors are of course that much nastier and a pain to deal with.Basically we need to commence a purge and find the ones who are most...pliable and see how things would be best in the long run as well as in the great scheme of things.>>35574961>Deploying the Terraforming Atmosphere-Processing towers and associated bases and fortifying them against Rach incursions.Safety first.
>>35574609>There is a kzin psi in our team>There are psi slaves in the stashCan those work together to pin point the location of the rach brains for assassination? >>35534597>Correct. However, that is going purely on mining operations. Profits Asteroid Mining, HE3 production, and other exported goods and services go directly to you, along with the small cut of the Mining profits AAA leaves you. If you want, you can divert some of these extra profits into paying off your debt faster.just to be clear, is that "to you the colony" or "to you the governor". Because I have not yet seen how we the governor are supposed to get paid. Also, I am curious, what is the state of human longevity treatments?
>>35575015>>35574961What about getting the ID chips in the LMG's removed? Were we able to get that done, or were all workers too busy on setting up the colony?
>>35574609>Loot found in last thread>Seven Combat Bio-Androids. You've encountered Combat Androids before, but they were designed to blend in with normal humans at least somewhat. Not these hulking brutes. Almost simian in their muscle bulk and posture, these tailored killers are fast, strong, tough, and brutally efficient.are they sapient?also, I want to use them vs the rach>Simulcra Kits: One a popular sport of the rich and powerful, the Simulcra Arena allowed contestants to link their minds through a kind of (relatively) cheap, short-range, easily disrupted Neural Uplink to specially grown miniature human Simulcra, armed with miniature weapons and sent into battle against swarms of Terran insects. Banned after their repeated use by Crime Barons as tiny assassins. These kits contain everything you need to set up several first-class Simulcra Arenas, and the technical instructions to create more when your technology base advances enough. Those sound like they would be awesome against the rach. Like, for assassinating brains and queens>10 Vats of Stak. A substance that, when introduced to human flesh, gradually consumes the unlucky victim. Can only be cured by amputation, commonly used as a torture device. Universally illegal.what effect does it have on the rach?>70 Screechers. Banned Sonic weapons that literally dissolve the flesh from a targets bones. Incredibly painful, and lethal, but short-ranged and ineffective against armor modified to protect against it. Used primarily for "crowd control" and putting down lightly armed peasant revolts.how effective are screechers against the rach? if they are, create a "Temporary Anti Rach Screecher Platoon" TARSP whose charter says the screechers are to be destroyed once the rach are expunged from this planet. And that they are forbidden from being used against any humans, kzin, or cthal.
>>35575204>Because I have not yet seen how we the governor are supposed to get paid.I figure it'd be through taxes (salary) and any ventures we own.
>>35575174Aren't most of the things that would normally be on the black market totally legal here, at least for the meantime? Like, they've literally got nothing illegal to do except run brothels with unwilling prostitutes, act as hit men, and sling Space Meth and worse. All the excusable stuff like dealing Space Pot and running clean brothels are firmly in the sphere of small businesses.
>>35575250Screechers aren't universally banned so I think they're worth keeping for specops & black operations.
>>35575007>>35575115>>35575174>>35575224Okay, so, we're not going to have the cheap fuel for our Free Trader buddies when they come calling within the week. That's what you're saying?
>>35574961>>Bringing the Couldscoop up to full operational capacity. Best choice, and useful for ships that will trade too.
>>35575302The cloudscoup is still functional and working. Its just not running at full capacity. That does not mean we do not have fuel for them. Its just less than what we could have.
>>35575302Ok, ok. I"ll change it. I just wanted to get a good payment on the mining operation down. But I guess you're right.>>35574961Changing vote from >>35575115to >>Bringing the Couldscoop up to full operational capacity.Whats this about a trade-station anyway?
>>35575273Doesn't stop the black market if only for the sake of sticking it to the man also taxes. Not to mention apparently there are still a number of goods and services that are illegal even here.Granted we do offer a ton of breathing room that isn't gonna stop them from finding something. Its just useful for us to decrease the amount of guys we have on crime watch and to insure more profit(taxes). And boy are both colonial groups gonna likely be a pain in the ass in regards to taxation.>>35575302It was stated to be working just not at full capacity which would be pointless anyway unless we either had A a ton of ships coming to use it or B a place large enough to store such excess amounts of fuel.
>>35574961>Bringing the Couldscoop up to full operational capacity.
>>35575015Is the Cloudscoop really operational?Because assuming things has bitten us in the ass before.
>>35575204Technically "to the Colony". As Governor, you have a nice enough salary to put you firmly in the "wealthy" bracket of society, plus a generous expense account and excellent medical benefits. However, in practice, many Governors have the damnedest time keeping their personal income and Colonial income from getting confused in the books, and treat the Colony as their personal fiefdoms.>>35575211Done. Neo-Tokyo hackers experienced in fencing stolen weaponry were able to accomplish it in admirable time. You are getting a reputation among their community as an uncompromising, and kind of crazy, but fair and generally hands-off employer.>>35575250>Bio-AndroidsFully Sapient.>Simulcra KitThe Simulcra could be used as assassins easily, set in pre-programmed mode.>Vats of StakThey could be useful, but you only have 10 barrels, and they're not very effective as weapons. Their manufacturing process is expensive and can be considered a minor atrocity in itself, and its use in anything is banned, banned, banned. As in, "Happy visit from the Colonial Marines" banned. Of course, this only makes it more valuable in the right circles...>ScreechersThey would be highly effective against the unarmored Rach, especially heavily armored Heavy Castes, and have been used to great effect before.
>>35575406>And boy are both colonial groups gonna likely be a pain in the ass in regards to taxation.I doubt it. The Jeffersonians just hate megacorps, corruption and not have any representation. The latter...dunno
>>35575482Is the Cloudscoop really operational?Because assuming things has bitten us in the ass before.
>>35575471>>35575406The Cloudscoop is not fully operational. However, it is operating in a limited capacity, enough to provide fuel to three or four ships by the time the Traders come calling, but not more.
>>35575518>>35574961Then I'm voting for the cloudscoop.
>>35575518>enough to provide fuel to three or four ships by the time the Traders come calling, but not more. And how many Trader ships are we expecting? There's Mark; does he fly solo or does he have a little trading group of ships? What about the other Free Traders we dealt with? Are they expected to be coming?
>>35574961>Getting started on the assembly and installment of the Sky-ElThe elevator should be top of the list.
>>35575518Hey Gameroom, I love this quest, but you really need to streamline this a bit or we're never going to get anywhere. Not sure HOW admittedly, but give us a time limit or something.
>>35575547Mark operates four ships last you heard, although that number may have risen or fallen since you last met. There were over a dozen other Traders at that table, but the number that actually show up later this week could fluctuate dramatically depending on how many find something to sell you of value or tell friends of the new market.
>>35575482We should probably have our PR types mock up an educational video about Bolo's and rampancy. An accurate one, not the crap that the Terran Commonwealth spews
>>35575581He needs a time limit outside of some things. Right now? There's already a majority for the cloudscoop. So OP needs to write now and stop votes.Should we sell the vat sticks or destroy them? I'm thinking we should thoroughly de-activate the slave collars so they're just strips, and then sell them off to collectors/traders
>>35575581Assume you are operating under a 20 minute time limit for each decision. I'm stretching this a bit to answer questions. You have 10 minutes from this post to reach a majority.
>>35575581Any less time, and we end up fucking up like with killing Spire and Scarr before finding out where they found their Kzinettes, or this vote right now, where if someone hadn't asked about the actual capacity of the Cloudscoop and how many ships we expect this week, we would have not had enough fuel for the traders that are coming.
So, I had an idea...Both space marines and bolo legions are para military organizations dedicated to protecting humanity. space marines even have their own worlds specifically for them since they are super soldiers genetically. So, what if we just contact some through our old contacts? we could hire them to come in and exterminate the rach for us.Also, while at it we could organize with the legions to use our current position as a front to rescue various bolos used as mining rigs. and make arrangement for the tech needed to make a bolo legion enclave on our world (or at least nearby world).
>>35575619Didn't see that the Cloudscoop had reached majority. Writing.
>>35575606>>35575619>>35575627I'm just saying that there's a point discussion need to move to action and it's been half an hour since the last post of the OP. As to the Stak vats, I say we burn them now, if it's banned that badly I want nothing to do with them. Same with slaver collars.
>>35575630We have BOLO contacts but I don't think it's worth using so early, yet. One thing at a time. ...I like the idea of giving BOLOs citizenship, though. They are afterall just AI, and have a loyalty program to protect humanity.
>>35575482>Bio-droid assassin fully sapientwe need to get them mentally screened and freed then>Vats of stack can be used effectively against the rach>But their use in ANYTHING is visit from marines bannedfuck, destroy those then. Not worth it to use them on the rach... or maybe we can count dumping them on the rach as destroying them?definitely not to produce them>Smulcra can be used to assassinate rach brains>Screechers highly effective vs rachfuck yea
>>35575273>Aren't most of the things that would normally be on the black market totally legal here, at least for the meantime?Sorta, we make our own rules within reasons.some things are considered so atrocious that using them will get us immediately invaded by a punitive force of space marines.I seriously think we should distinguish the two more clearlylike>Illegal vs atrocity
>>35575606>Should we sell the vat sticks or destroy them?I'm actually more interested in if the Cthall can use them as some form of catalyst in certain bio-engineering processes before destroying them.>>35575630Organizing anything within currently active Legions is problematic. We're already put under the microscope by Commonwealth Intelligence for even buying a BOLO, even further because we're a former BOLO commander. We need to make it look like we're just buying BOLO's as mining rigs, and give no one any reason to suspect otherwise, especially if we're contacting old buddies in the Legion.
>>35575663Yeah. I'm okay with destroying the vat sticks. But we can sell off whats left of the slave collars as collectors pieces. Thoroughly deactivate them so much, just rip out all the parts 9then destroy the parts) and fill in the inside with concrete.Definitely should keep the screechers though. For anti-rach warfare and for use when our elite soldiers have to use them (not for normal operations). >>35575745Really, I think we should put it on the back burner when we have a large enough colony that it wouldn't be worth dropping space marines on us. Just like how we won't immediately sell diamondwood when we're essentially the size of a city.
>>35575745which is why I figured we could use the excuse of hiring them to exterminate our rach infestationHeck, we can put it on open bid for contractors through AAA and just make sure our bolo buddies make the winning bid.
>>35575803The BOLO Legions may be separate from the Commonwealth Army and Navy, but I don't think they're PMC's. GameRoom, can you please answer this so we don't waste time on debating something that's false?
>>35575776>But we can sell off whats left of the slave collars as collectors pieces. Thoroughly deactivate them so much, just rip out all the parts 9then destroy the parts) and fill in the inside with concrete.I think you are kind over estimating the value of such a thing as a collectible. And I worry more about the PR. even though we thoroughly disable them, they are still gonna appear as slave collar sale which is easily twisted by enemy PR. It really hurts to just outright destroy something useful. but some things are just not worth it.
>>35575803Yeah. Nothing was said they're paramilitary, just that the institutions are older than the Commonwealth and preceding governments, and they have an independent streak.>>35575848Well, it's still destroying them and essentially leaving just the frame. Couldn't we sell them to a museum or something?
>>35575873is there any reason the museum can't just use an imitation device?also, we don't have museums. and this item is so ridiculously illegal that I would rather nobody ever know we even had any.... then again, I just had an idea. the doctors who work on deprogramming and curing? we might be able to let them dissect those things to find countermeasures.
>>35575873Not for enough money that it'd be worth the PR backlash of even keeping them around. >>35575913I'm sure they have plenty of examples to work from previously, so there's likely nothing to be done.

>>35575989They are officially part of the formal armed forces. However, in practice they are highly independent, self-sufficient, and generally left to their own devices when sent to a combat zone or given a mission, which is how the Legions like it.

Only a handful remain in private hands, grandfathered in, and the Commonwealth is working toward getting rid of them once and for all all.Could you clarify this bit please? They have a policy against individuals making their own private legions from CIVILIAN BOLOs, that I can understand, but do they prevent MILITARY sources from the same thing? In other words, can a source affiliated with the LEGIONS build a legion?
we should destroy the Stak and the slave collars, they have no use that's not truly horrible, other than that most of the stuff is immediately useful against the bugs, and should be used against them. though we could also use the Simulacra kits to make tourist attractions after we clear up the ratch
>>35576065You are legally allowed to do it, but if the Legions get wind of it, you can rest assured that high-ranking Legion officers will help the Commonwealth pull strings to keep you from buying them up. Nobody wants some crazy Border World Baron to declare total independence or run a pirate haven and turn a Marine action into a nasty little war by having a collection of old BOLOs on hand. However, once you have them, there is nothing they can legally do about you arming them and forming Tempest Legion, and if you uphold the honor of the Legions in all its actions, eventually they will accept you as one of their own.
>>35576155So, basically if we have our legion act like it is just a small separate LEGION detachment they'll be relatively ok with it.
>>35576138Some worlds, mostly old ones from the days of the Terran Empire, have BOLO Legions attached, although the governments leading up to the Commonwealth have been leery of the air of independence they gain from this fact and have worked to prevent other worlds from following suit. Other organizations, like Megacorps, are forbidden from having Legions.

The sale of Li's huge cargo of civilian electronics went remarkably well, netting you 10 C after a small bidding war between Neo-Tokyo groups looking for hardware to train new Hackers. On the arranged date, ship after ship begins to break out of Hyper, coming in to your world. Soon, you are out of docking space on Cyclone Station, as 27 ships in all show up to trade.Mark not only brings more old Orion freighters than you would have gotten through AAA, although some or most of them are undoubtedly the very same ships, he has also found you five specialized Tanker craft, freeing up the number of less optimized freighters you would have needed to use for fuel hauling. He tells you to consider them "An investment in the good health of a friendly port".Too many people you know draw everything they know about Mark from their first impression: A fat, womanizing drunkard who would sell his own sister just for the joy of haggling, and ruthlessly outmaneuver his own mother to get a good deal. It's sad how little some people who think they know everything actually know. You've had your luxury hall in your newly fabbed capitol dome catered by your Governors Staff for the event. Spider hangs as unobtrusively as he can behind your left shoulder, along with your two personal Guard, in case some individuals whose ships you recognized in orbit decide to disregard all consequences and put a bullet in you. As you approach you see the staff, whose names you've made a point of remembering as much as possible, rushing to and fro with platters and containers. If you weren't drawing on your expense account for this little shindig, you'd be seriously worried about the final bill in food and drink. You fling the doors open dramatically as you enter the cacophonous hall, a number of weapons drawn but not yet pointed at anyone as accusations fly and old feuds come boiling up. Regardless of what come next this is a most have, we don't want to end up as an dead end mining world. >Frontier MedicalNice thing to have if a little pricey >Settlers EquipmentWith our current bug problem independent and isolated settlements are only a danger for the population. Until we hunt down all the queens and the bugs are to a nuisance this will have to wait. >Asymmetric warfare TrainingJust the thing we need to hunt down the bugs or be prepare for their new forms of attacks. >Indirect FireIf we get our navy running efficiently we shouldn't have the need for this. Still is an extra something for those emergencies >Vehicles in generalWe could stay one step ahead of the bugs and they could help a lot with fast respond operations >Firewatch missile DefenseI see this as a most have maybe not right now, but it should be on the list.
I think we need the Tech Uni & Med Uni. Those have short-term and long-term benefits in terms of production, infrastructure and knowledge. The Tech Uni? We need it. Our industrial equipment will only last so long and our people will need to be able to make late 19th century -> 20th century goods on their own as machines get broken down. Plus, less strain on our existing infrastrucutre/tech base. The second, though? The medical uni is needed. This is a new planet and even with Cthall support, we could end up overwhelmed with viruses. Even if that's not true, it means our citizens get more accessible healthcare, which is a big boost for morale when your family isn't dying or waiting weeks for medical support.3rd, the Settler Equipment? It lets us fight overcrowding. Even if you're really worried about it, don't forget it will be sold to us, the Planetary Governor and Tempest planetary govt. So we can control the distribution of it, and when it gets distributed. Though if I had to choose, I think the first two are most necessary. Things I don't know about yet:Heavy Metal? It's *one hundred* main battle tanks. That will give us some real armored support for our troops outside of the BOLO.Air support is vital. We're sorely lacking on it outside of some aircraft used by mercs. The Hawke fighters are the best choice, since they're multi-role fighters meaning they can act as interceptors, bombers and CAS. Jack of all trades, but it'd give us what we need.Settler Equipment? It lets us fight overcrowding. Even if you're really worried about it, don't forget it will be sold to us, the Planetary Governor and Tempest planetary govt. So we can control the distribution of it, and when it gets distributed. All 3 of those are worth considering, but I don't think they're as vital. >CONT

Get Spider, Ras and an Ex-Army officer and we can get our own SpecOps unit built for free.Indirect Fire is nowhere near as good as the Firewatch system, though it is cheaper. Not cheap enough though.I think 48 Hawke Multirole Fighters (minimum size of a Wing) are far, far better than a hundred Grizzly MBTs though.

>>35579251So it will take us 7 months to break even on the Asteroid Hub, 10 months for Hydroponics, 1 month for Algae Tanks, 5 months for the machine shop, and it will literally take years before we see a return on investment for the Settler's Kits. Now, let's meet with the man about some "mining equipment".
>>35579248>62/62We got 57.Also, the settler package doesn't synergize with tech, it just spreads out people and isolates a bunch of them for the rest.Really against that until we have folk getting along better. We can buy the prefabs later on, if need be.
>>3557930362 QM said he forgot to add 5C from the fuel we sold to the traders.

>>35579251Thanks. >>35579317>>35579325Missed that one.>>35579303>>35579279And it seems there is a synergy we could get.Still don't favor spreading the people out yet.Need them in one place initially to help bring the populace together more.Later we can buy that stuff, crack it, and spread out.
>>35579303Nope. +5C from the fuel. Again, we can control distribution. We can easily not give out the habitats until we feel like it, or haggle them out of the price for a discount. The equipment is more than the habitats.>Technical University cracks everything in the Settlers Kits, the +2 will turn into a +4.>A word on Settlers Equipment: It could result in your Tech base being bumped up a notch if combined with Technical university by providing tech just advanced more advanced than the norm to be useful, but not so much that locally trained Engineers can't reverse-engineer it with a lot of head-banging.>>35579137>I totally forgot to factor that in. 5 C.
>>35579343Then we don't hand out the habitats yet, or not buy them and get a discount.
>Mister Miner. Writing.
>>35579361Fair idea. If we could leave that out for a savings that is better than 'withholding' buildings.
Just because I'm econ focused, Hub, Hydroponics, Machine Shop, Tech U, and Settlers Kits seem to be important. We don't have to deploy the Settler's Kits, and it may be more useful to hold them back until we get the bugs exterminated and/or pruned back.We could (not saying we should) set up a meeting in 3 months time to pick up some more military hardware, especially if we know we're going to have 12C to promise.
>>35579383The Settler Kits can honestly wait. We're looking at years for a return on that investment, when we can buy it at a later date when the Tech University is more established.
>>35579373Can we get a 3C discount on the Settlers Equipment by excluding the Pre-Fab Habitats (though not the prints for them)? Thats the only reason people seem to be against them for now. I don't care about the habitats. I just want the tech bonus
I want to buy the med center and give it to the toolbox doctors or whatever they are called
>>35579398Lets say it takes 5 years to get the +2 income bonus. That's 160 credits over 80 years, and 20 over 10.Also. After we get the govt set up officially? I think we should start selling land to the states and private individuals. People already using said land (like Ranchers) would get a strong discount. This will help spur a real estate market. It will give us an immediate source of income (selling land) and later income (taxes from property or even selling/buying land)
>>35579383Similarly, we could wait on the Settler kits, though I now agree we should get them at the next earliest chance, if nothing else than to have our tech uni beat their head against it to learn more.I'm firm on wanting the Hawke package though, PARTICULARLY if we are getting set with a decent measure of self-reliance.All this stuff to run on our own, fuel, and docking space? It is just asking an ambitious pirate to try turning warlord. No matter what we have on the ground, if someone else holds space, we're fucked.
>>35579451Indeed. Which is why I'm not saying *don't* buy military, and I am nervous about going more naked that we could be. I'm a base-builder infrastructure type. I need 3:2 odds to beat someone in tactical combat, but I usually am able to bring 5:2 easily. *shrug*
>>35579451You know, at this point, while I can't support a BOLO because that would have to be so expensive as to break everything else, if this guy's mining hardware includes 'space mining equipment', I could be convinced.
>>35579451>No matter what we have on the ground, if someone else holds space, we're fucked. Then it would be better to invest that money into recruiting capable spacement for our fleet of Pirate ships, Patrol Boats, and the Destroyer. That would make our space assets far more effective than a wing of sub-optimal aerospace fighters.
>>35579472Could you please not namefag unless you're making OC for the quest? It's just giving your posts more attention than any other anonymous post.>>35579485Multi-role fighters are jack of all trades, not "sub-optimal". They're what we need for a basic aerospace force. An airforce is one advantage the Mercs and any invading force will have over us. We're sorely lacking it.
>>35579451if you want the fighters to help with are space defense then you should push for us to instead get more crew for are ships and more ships not fighters that are shit in space
>>35579472I'm a tech-base guy myself.Psilons, University, etc.Though we're unlikely to out-tech anyone here, it'd still be nice to have a good foundation to work with.
>>35579485>our fleet of Pirate ships, Patrol Boats, and the Destroyer.Ah. Alright then.
>>35579500Any invading force will have to get past our space defenses, of which the biggest component are our frigates and destroyers. Strengthening our first line of defense is more important than investing in secondary and auxiliary defenses.
>>35579509They're more useful than for just being used in space. We can get spacemen *and* the fighters. I'm only asking for 10C for the hawkes, not 20. >>35579535All we really need is crew. Ships & crewmen are not up for sale or I would be for this, but I know that 10C will just go for ground forces, which we dont need nearly as much as an actual aerospace force.
You excuse yourself from the opulent hall, leaving the expectant Traders to keep a second round of food and drink company. You lead the Mining Equipment broker off to a shielded side room, closing the door and sweeping briefly for bugs. You turn to him when you get the "all-clear", and he immediately launches into his spiel:"While I am greatly interested in the finer details of buying hydroponics equipment behind AAAs back, I am an exceedingly busy man in an exceedingly busy line of work. I've got commodities that are hot in every meaning of the word that I hear can be offloaded on this lovely green rock, and in supply. I don't care what you do with em', and I don't want to know. I don't need your life story of trying to build your own BOLO knockoff from scratch, and the challenges you faced designing the chassis in an orphanage with only your whore mother to help you with the spelling and nuns that beat you for drawing war pictures."He locks eyes with you, jabbing his finger like it's a dagger to emphasize every following point:"I need to know what you will buy, how you will pay for it, specifically, how you will pay for it right now in untraceable cash money in a currency less than 50% likely to suffer a catastrophic inflationary collapse, and where to unload it right after payment has been checked for counterfeiting and secured in a hidden location. Don't even think of pulling a fast one on me, either. I deal in weapons, all kinds of weapons, and I got my start in using weapons, all kinds of weapons. When things were at their darkest, when you lost, piece by piece, everything and everyone you ever loved, as your dreams, already greatly reduced by practicality, turned to ash once and for all, it was in the end the heroes from those childhood tales, and the memory of friends in your youth made through the love of them, that pulled you through. That gave you the strength to let go of dreams of bloody revenge against powers you could not hope to topple, and fantasies of rescuing damsels from evil princes on the eves of wedding nights long past. Ras and his kin have settled into a large section of the Capitol dome modified slightly to better accommodate them, instantly dubbed Tigertown, just like every other Kzin community in Commonwealth space. The evidence of alien culture is evident here, from food stands mixing traditional human barbeque and Kzinti seasoned raw meats, and sometimes surprisingly tasty composites. It is already becoming the place to go "in town" for those who feel like spending on some real meat. You think this might end up becoming another tourist attraction, this being so far away from Kzin space, later on down the path. Provided the tourists hire competent guides before venturing in.As you walk through the hall, you see that you're receiving a surprising modicum of respect for a human. Many Kzinti, mostly Kdapists ad Defectors, with a handful of Exiles, signal that they acknowledge your presence if you happen to make eye contact or brush closely past, which you return with a nod. Few other humans are shown that they are noticed, save the Soldiers and Mercenaries. You reach the "important" district, and are escorted by two you recognize as being Ras' close followers to a secured apartment, made up as much as possible like a Kzinti Manor. It's a slightly humorous affair, with a handful of fine furs and pelts from worlds you fail to recognize adoring the floor and wall, and a small collection of weapons taken off of worthy enemy Warleaders in an Armorglass case at the far end of the sitting area. You think it's a roughly 50/50 split between Human and Kzinti trophies, though there are two blades you don't recognize as being either.>CONT

The ships are likely spread all over the local star cluster, each with a small compliment of Kzinerettes, as if they planned for taking losses on a trip through a relatively quiet area of space, and wanted to maximize chances of some of the population surviving. We can only hope that most haven't already been picked up by two-bit salvagers and criminals like Spire, but I doubt it. Sorry about confusion.>>35580904"Those other Kzinerette present a mystery: They have physical indications of being related to the intelligent variety we so recently re-discovered, and are notably more intelligent on average themselves, but lack true Sapience. This adds to the rest of the puzzle:""Some of the other females we acquired were of wildly different strains. Some obviously at least partially related to the semi-intelligent females in the first ship, while others are noticeably different, more... Wild. They are better tool-users, slightly more intelligent, more aggressive and confrontational in temperament. They bear the marks of years of long labor with primitive hand tools, and some dueling scars. The female of the first ship is a paradox, in that she belongs in both and neither categories. She is a strange mi of the physical characteristics of the two, and undoubtedly the most intelligent of all of them, makes the most consistent attempts to communicate, and paradoxically has the best grasp of the modern female demi-language out of all, while the other Females that share her Wild traits know little to none, and speak it with a strange accent. Further, the other females deferred to her as a leader when they were placed in confinement together! And at times I almost felt... No, never mind that. But she is a mystery, and learning their ancient language-the same language with no variance in dialect! Even the mysteries are not consistent!-is the key to the answers we need."He stops and sips a mildly alcoholic honey-drink popular among their race."Kallit, did you ever wonder about telepathic females?"...Said drink now being all over his Tunic. >>35581057>There as been another killing, this one bad.Looks like we'll need to come down with both feet on the New Yakuza, then.On the up side, no one likes them. The Jeffersonians consider them thugs, the genetic misfits and bio-androids hate them for how the Yakuza exploited their kind, and the regular Neo-Tokyo Exiles are finding that they don't have to put with with the Yakuza's shit any more since everyone has assault rifles and body armor.
>>35581057On the way, you get the details:Some New Yakuza boss decided that he liked a Jeffersonian daughter, of the Walton family, and followed her into an isolated with two of his men area to ensure that there was no possibility of an effective "no". After she shot two at close range with a pistol and ran off, the Boss decided that revenge was needed for his mens injury, organizing an attack on what turned out to be the wrong Jeffersonian family, sparking a shootout that left one dead on each side and five wounded, three among the Highburns and their ranch hands. The Jeffersonians in the local area organized at this point and, the expense of severely disrupting the construction of one of the last domes, hit a gang "clubhouse" tent with a drive-by with a number of crappy hand-made submachineguns taken from the corpses of several sentries from another gang, luring the Yakuza out for a counter-attack, and promptly slaughtered them all from a nearby hilltop with decidedly not crappy handmade competitive marksmans and hunting rifles, with a handful of sniper rifles looted from badly decayed Pirate corpses. Turns out they weren't even the right gang. The family of several girls found dead of previous injuries in the same tent prompted a surge of clan justice, as the entire Takahashi Clan (Though which one is still unclear. It seems like 9 out of every ten Exiles go by it) surrounded a gang stronghold built from looted construction supplies in a hollow and riddled every opening with bullets. In a grim twist of fate, this was the same gang that had attacked the Watons daughter and kicked the whole thing off.Now you have to un-kick it.>Talk to representatives from the Gangs>Talk to Neo-Tokyo people to get a read on the situation>Talk to the Waltons>Talk to the Highburns>Other

>>35581182>>35581189>>35581201Yes. Those exactly which Takahashi Clan remains a mystery. You talk to quite a few people, and get the overwhelming impression that these people have no support in the community whatsoever. They are widely regarded as two-bit punks who either couldn't have called themselves Yakuza without losing fingers and apologizing profusely, or the lowest-level enforcers and second-cousins of bosses too closely connected to be murdered, but too incompetent to keep around. They're confused, fragmented, violent, and lashing out at anything and anyone in their fear of losing their position of power and control, worsened by increasing whispers that it would be possible to put them all down like dogs, if enough people were to get together....One good thing that has come of all this is a show of solidarity between the disparate people who make up this newborn world, as neighbors with only a few broken words of english to communicate with band together in case the Yakuza come for them next. >>35581479>>35581510>>35581514You tip your hat (A very useful acquisition) and leave. You hate penning sappy letters, but you write up your apology for letting this go as far as it did in real, honest-to-god Ink.The Walton family is at first diametrically different, as evidenced by the third son talking to a pretty young girl with highly noticeably feline add-ons and wearing what is obviously the least skimpy thing she owns, but underneath you sense the same hard strength. You see it in calloused hands, dog tags from Core World Planetary Defense service and the occasional Commonwealth Army Ident-Tattoo, in the guns on every hip, the carefully adjusted Security armor, and the Guard rifles, or better, kept close at hand.A barricade of construction waste and empty metal creates surrounds every family atmosphere tent, to prevent drive-by shootings from hitting their mark, and the entire family has moved just a bit from the main camp, giving better overwatch to the snipers on the hilltops whose fine wood finish peeks out from under carefully woven camouflage netting.Dales Walton Senior is an older man with hair that carries the gray of respectful patina, obviously having received longevity treatments. It will be hard for the first few generations, you think, when those who received the plentiful treatments on the Core Worlds outlive lovers and children both.Dales is what is known in some circles as a "Rabble Rouser" from the world of New America, the center of the Jeffersonian revival. He was among the first New Sons of Liberty to begin spreading disruptive propaganda anonymously, and later under his own name, when the movement grew strong enough to hold a proper protest. I feel awful, knowing that they lost a good man on account of our troubles, worse stillknowing how easily it could have not happened. Molly's been going through one of those "rebellious phases" you hear about, and if he'd just gone up and talked to her... Well, he probably wouldn't have gotten his friends shot in the first place.
