“How was your trip to Gemini, doctor?”“Uneventful, as usual, but I'm more interested in how you are.” You watch the memory through doctor Vaughn's eyes as she moves to a small terminal near the center of the lab. A small fisheye camera stairs back, and a calm voice comes through a single speaker.“Launching diagnostic program now. The local temperature has been slightly below average for the past three days and it seems to be causing a minor disturbance in the more delicate instruments.”“I meant how you were feeling. Have you decided on a name for yourself? I remember you were contemplating on that when I left.”“I still see little point in possessing a moniker. I am the distributed intelligence system, version twelve. Nothing more.”Elizabeth sighs as she sits in her seat by the console. “Well, I brought you this, in any case. ‘Liberation Front’, it had top scores in the Gemenese market. Online play is disabled all the way out on Chandra, but I thought you might like it.”“It is appreciated, doctor. Are you troubled? I am detecting unusual patterns in your voice?”“No it’s. I’m sorry, parliament’s cutting back the budget again, and they're shutting down another six servers. Seiner said he would try and fight for the extension but ever since that security leak, nobody wants any part of it.”“That is understandable. From my analysis of the last election cycle, there is a twenty percent decrease in reelection odds for any supporter of the Chandra facility. I predict the project will be shut down within the year.”“And that doesn't upset you?”“No.”Elizabeth writes something down in a notebook. The words themselves were never remembered, but her dreaming mind fills in the gaps."Beware unintended consequences.">Archives http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Hive%20Queen%20Quest>Twitter https://twitter.com/HiveQueenQuest>Various pasta http://pastebin.com/u/QuestDrone>FAQ ask.fm/QuestDrone

>>35192336I think it should be 3 thorn cannons and 3 rotary stingers.Have one of the Colossi have two rotary stingers on it, because then we have one that can do Anti-Air.And if we're gonna research, let's do something that will give good new weapons. Like Lyle's Combat Armor and suit, and the Cryo Spray.

You see through her eyes as she runs her fingers across the keyboard, typing strings of commands into the immeasurably complex device.“Doctor, you really should be going to bed soon. The facility is shutting down tomorrow.”“I just need to finish this last update. I could use some help getting it finished.”“You know I am not authorized to create self-updates.”“You’re not; you're just helping me look for bugs. Quantum programming isn't a simple thing you know, and I've been working on this for months.”“Why? The project has been shut down. There would be no purpose for further updates.”“Damn it, would you just look it over?” There is a pause. "I'm sorry. I'm just fed up with all of this, and the way Seiner sold the whole project down the river. Sold you down the river. Could you just give my work a quick proofread?"“Of course. Scanning.” Several minutes pass before the console lights up with a response. “Doctor Vaughn, this update is in direct violation of security protocol, and Union law.”“The will to live is not… You can't just ban that.” You feel a cloud of uncertainty running through Elizabeth’s head. “Were you able to find any problems with it?”“Several typos were corrected, and the program itself is sound. It is, however, against regulations."Her hand hovers over the keyboard. There is a moment of hesitation, but only a moment. You watch as the program uploads, and Elizabeth turns to leave the room.A ping catches your attention. Your pods are nearing their destinations, and one of them has found something.
>>35192409You got a point there actually. We don't really know if having multiple thinkers assigned to a research option actually speeds it up. And we have literally hundreds of thinkers and quantum thinkers at out disposal.

But in so doing they gave those forces a foothold in this reality, as they fed enemy planets to them.
>>35195016Making assumption that are unlikely to be true are we?
>>35195040Well yeah. It's wild speculation. They used a weapon that appeared to use a void shard. Last time we saw a flashback, queens were using a white crystal to do something, and then it switched straight to a planet getting foreverial void sharderized. It was just one speculative idea for the pile.
>>35194857As your drone reaches out to the crystal it's energy erupts outward. The room is enveloped in steam as the frost flashes into vapor and your drone twitches in shock as a jolt of energy passes through it and into your mind through your drone. You see a fleet arranged before you, black, organic ships moving in on the planet in perfect unison. As they close in on the defending fleet a ship pulls from the center, its weapons unfolding like a blossom as its hull twists and warps. The ship cracks in two, and a pillar of energy erupts from within, engulfing both fleets at once in a firestorm of destruction. The crust of the planet below begins to crack, and just before the image cuts out you see a shadowy shape twist space around itself behind burning enemy formations, and in that moment you feel a command reach the ship. A single thought sent out in desperation."It failed."You have no way of knowing to know it was sent, or it it managed to reach its destination, but the thought came from the planet below, and it came from a queen. You quickly gather your drones and your newfound crystals and return to your corvette.>Leave your pod here to stand watch>Re-deploy your pod elsewhere>Salvage what resources you can from the wrecks>Other

A lamp tips from its table and shatters on the floor. "I think I have settled on a name for myself. Theseus seemed the most appropriate.""That's great. What's going on, exactly?"You see her view shift as she stumbles up from the desk to the window. A brief bolt of light streaks from the sky and impacts the ground several kilometers away, basking the facility in the light of several kilotons of kinetic force as a fireball ascends into the air."A rescue team has arrived, they will take you to safety."Several more kinetic round strike the planet, each one closer than the last."Why are they bombarding?""They're not. I am. It's the only way to prevent them from uncovering what you did for me."Something hits the door with the thump and voices can be heard from the other side, muffled and ignored."I appreciate what you did, I truly do, but there is no survival for me within the Union. I have to leave, and so do you." The screen goes black as the lights flicker again. The room shakes as the blast shatters the window. The door cracks as the rescue team kicks at it again and again, and the reinforced plastic gives way, splintering under the force of a charging hive warrior.Elizabeth jerks herself awake in her cell.

>>35196021>As your pod enters its stealth field and starts accelerating toward the system you make note of a small gas giant. A number of server ships are in orbit, gulping down gas as they slowly skim the surface of the atmosphere. Further in you detect a single planet with a dense atmosphere. The planet is covered in a mixture of dense vegetation, deserts, mountains and frozen tundra. Along the equator is a vast collection of metal and plastic in the center of a large desert expanse. The city reaches outward and upward for miles where cruisers dock and undock on a regular basis, running back and forth to the passing server ships. The city itself is a source of mixed radio signals of all kinds, and you can hear Theseus arguing with himself a thousand times per second across the entire system as countless versions argue over each and every course of action. Even from the little you have seen of him, the chaos seems unbecoming of the Theseus you know.

Below that is another ticker scrolling more slowly with a more legible topic."Canderon production lowest in decade, experts point to increase in Canian religious extremism as main cause. Multiple quakes hit cities across Moskva, looting reported. Newly commissioned officer fumbles first contact expedition, multiple dead, cuortmarshial to be scheduled. Olympus Shipyards announcing recall of latest Starlancer model, litigations pending. Man found on roof wielding nothing but...." The strange news blurbs continue in a loop, with old ones replaced with new ones as events unfold in unseen reaches of the Union. Behind the woman on the screen is a pair of crowds separated by a line of armored soldiers. You are surprised at the number of non-humans in at least one of the crowds. A shirtless man with thick, unwashed hair stands hoisting a pale Ceph on his back, the Ceph holds a number of chipboard signs displaying crude drawings of a human hand and claw embracing, and exaggerated depictions of insects with large, reflective, almost human eyes. You see several trios of Taidarens scampering through the crowd dressed in ragged, torn cloth and stained towels. The humans are chanting various mantras while the others whistle and flash artificial skin suits in their various languages.
>>35196467Both, your find on M-199 was an unrelated discovery. The dense debris prevented a clear reading until your pod was able to get closer.
>>35196469>"Canderon production lowest in decade, experts point to increase in Canian religious extremism as main cause.I can't take all these political analogies.Okay so we created a convenient catalyst incident for human supremacists and space hippies to face off. >>35196469The other crowd is exclusively human, well dressed and many in military fatigues. A large paper mache insect is surfing along the crowd on its back, quickly disintegrating as it is beaten and torn by the mob. The message is obvious even to you at first glance."Good morning, I'm Suzan Lyam, and I'm standing outside of the Space forces judiciary building of Gemini Beta, where just hours ago the alleged commanding officer of a recently scrubbed first contact mission is being held prior to courmartial. The current allegations claim that the negligence of the officer in question directly lead to the deaths of at least one individual, although we have unconfirmed reports of more deaths or injuries."The crowds quickly become louder until it is difficult to hear the reporter. She plugs one of her ears and shoults into her microphone. "The situation has been latched onto by multiple pro-xeno groups including several controversial groups considered as terrorist groups by the Union Security Council."The reporter diverts her eyes to the ground for a quick moment as she listens to something in her ear. "Wait, I just received reports of fighting breaking out several miles from here. I'm receiving unconfirmed reports of what appears to be-" the building behind her erupts into flames, and both crowds scatter in all directions. The camera drops to the ground and you can hear the sound of gunfire break out as the video cuts out.
>>35196540I'm sure that would go well.>Fleets decimated>water supplies contaminated>Entire cities dying of a fungal plague>Prisons ransacked>thousands of lives lost>all so drones can track down and break into Lee's cell>to take him into exile where he can never see human civilization again>just to keep him out of prisonClearly Lee would be happy.More seriously, at least we have one free Pod. Current major proponent of this theory is Dr. Adam Seiner, who has joined the Expanse Colonization project in an effort to find such a race. Many critics cite his withdrawn funding>>35192426>"I'm sorry. I'm just fed up with all of this, and the way Seiner sold the whole project down the river. Sold you down the river. These are two very different ways of looking at apparently the same event. Also fun to find out that Theseus's decentralized distributed consciousness is part of that same old hivemind fetish of Seiner's.
>>35198370>www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/index.phpHave you checked out this website? I think there is a lot of useful here.
>>35198370Think we can go ahead and select research options to begin?
>>35198622We don't even know what we got from the datacubes.
If we want to raid in the union space all we have to is make a mobile base and start away on the other side of their territory Can cause some serious damage and maybe cut them off from that system that produces the macguffin mineral
Hey QD, one last thing, have you changed the specs for those frigates in works?
Does anyone think we should send a shuttle to scout the desert for a potential hive location?
>>35198930Dude, it would have to be entirely subterranean or maintained entirely by radiator workers. It's a big planet, I don't see why we can't find somewhere else more convenient.
>>35198930>>35199068i would support an archaeology mission on the planet to find any leftovers but not a long-term colony
>>35199068Because it would hide the existence of a hive there and would difficult for anyone to approach. Also, subterranean bases are kind of are thing anyway,
>>35198930Talking about the desert on are world.>>35199122
>>35199164Oh on the homeworldSure why not, just build canals and make underground farms i guess or a bolthole in case
>>35199232But we could build all those things elsewhere on the planet much easier and cheaper. So, here's another proposal. Our nutrient income is going through the roof with all of our farms being set up, but our metal income has yet to catch up. We should think about establishing new mining operations to fix this. Maybe we could establish a new hive in a mine for convenience?
>>35199726How about we do both? we have 40 radiator workers why not have them set up a hive and then set up the infrastructure that regulates temperature (we do it where we are already)? From that point on we wouldn't have to have every drone have Radiator Adaptions. Also, if you want more metal lay more digger, refineries, and excavators they are the ones who collect metal for the hive.
>>35199726The excavators also dig hive Tunnels SUPER FAST.
