You are Sireyi Valyenya, 20 years old, you have been made into a Baroness, and given lands on the border of the kingdom. You’re busy solving the problems only a ruler can solve. The battle against the beastman horde was clearly the highlight of her year, she talks about it all the time, describing how she flew over the army of beastmen and orcs and breathed acid all over them; that she killed and wounded a lot of people doesn’t seem to feature in her version, just that she beat *the bad guys*.Your familiar bond with Ebonsong has grown, the two of you can communicate telepathically any time you want.At first this is kind of distracting, with Ebonsong contacting you for every little thing, but eventually she gets the point that she should only bother you if it’s important. One day you’re playing with all three your children, Sofia and Jal are with you. Vivi is trying to build a tower of wooden blocks with you and Sofia whilst Mili and Jal battle the *Big Dragon Monster*, played by Ebonsong.Although you are the ruler of the stronghold, your children are often in the company of the children of the servants and soldiers at the keep, which is perhaps what prompts Vivi’s question.Out of nowhere he says: “Bobby says dat he was, he was gedding a baby brother or sister cos his mummy had a baby in her.”He looks up at you with his golden eyes and says “Mama Reyi am I getting a baby brother or sister?”Fortunately Jal is not close enough to overhear the conversation.“Well” says Sofia “That’s an excellent question, Sireyi?”>Yes>No>[get flustered]>I’ll see what I can do>No more playing with Bobby>Don’t answer, distract him>Other

Ok, got it, writing
We might want to think about wether or not we want to take Ophilia with us to the village. On the one hand, its supremly likely that this has something to do with her backstory, on the other hand, if we intend to offer salvation to the necromancer, we should leave her home.
>>34700194>Yes>I’ll see what I can do
>>34700541I'd prefer to take her; there's nothing in her doctrine which forbids her from not killing the necromancer provided we don't let him off scot-free post-redemption.
>>34700570The issue is not with her doctrines but with emotional baggage
“Yes” you say, “though perhaps not soon, we need to make the realm secure first.”“Excuse me?” says Sofia in mock indignation “Who says you get to decide miss I-want-kids-but-won’t-get-married?”“Jal” says Sofia, calling her away from her game “Sireyi says you and I are going to be having more kids soon.”“The nerve!” agrees Jal, as Vivi looks back and forth grinning, he’s not sure what the joke is, but he knows something is up.“That not what I-I mean I can’t...at will...it was an accident” you protest, your cheeks reddening.“An accident she says” parrots Sofia “has her fun then leaves us with the responsibility.”“Yeah, an accident” says Jal, wandering over “We was just lying there and you tripped and fell on us with yer-”“-Magic” says Sofia, putting her hands over Vivi’s ears “Jal must you?” she asks, as your face is getting redder and redder. You remove Sofia’s hands from Vivi and say to him in hopes of ending the conversation “In short, maybe.”Vivi seems to accept this. Jal doesn’t.When Vivi goes back to his blocks she asks “So can yer give us new kids if yer want or not?” she seems to be genuinely curious.“It’s not a power I’ve learned yet” you say “Though some followers of Velya can.”Jal thinks about this, putting an arm around Sofia “Well” she says “You’d best get learning, if you don’t want yer best girls looking elsewhere” and she kisses Sofia on the cheek. Sofia blushes but does not disagree.>[flustering intensifies]>If that’s what you want>No I’m not learning that power>Maybe later>Other
>>34700570It would however definitly force a confrontation with her, with nothing to gain for us except prove a point to her, which would be inappropritley patronizing of us, even if we might be right.
Rolled 7, 16 = 23 (2d20)>>34700630>>[flustering intensifies]>>If that’s what you want
>>34700630>[flustering intensifies]>Maybe later>We kind of still need a lot of powers to go save our mother from a literally hellish prison, lets leave the fertility magic till after that, please ?
>>34700607Then we should take her and try to help her work through some of that baggage. To be honest, I'm not really planning on trying to redeem the necromancer at this point and won't care if she kills him, but we could probably stop her from doing so with a bit of diplomacy. She'd be useful either way and I'd like to bring both of our old friends to the village.
>>34700630>If that’s what you wantABout time

>>34700668I agree with this sentiment, although do we actually know if the undead are hostile? For all we know they could be peaceful zombies, discworld-like, and charging in sanctified maces blazing would be more trouble than what it's worth.>>34700630>[Flustering intensifies]>If that's what you want...>(Isla might want some too...)
>>34700630>>Maybe laterWe'll see, but we are still young and a long life ahead of us.Reminder to purchase fecund sanctuary and give our lovers magic items with those, so that they have a couple hundred years more to live with us.
The only issue I have with agreeing now, besides the "waste" of XP, is that people had voted to court Isla this year if I remember right, which is a bit awkward after promising more children to our current paramours. Which is why I wanted to wait with courting Isla until our relationship with the current two has deepened, but alas ..
>>34700785Don't you worry anon, we can make them all three pregnant at the same time, so our second batch can grow up with four mamas. Yeah its a bit weird, but you can't expect reasonable social interaction and romance from anons, they just lead a checklist
>>34700771I thank you for voicing your opinion as the opinions of the people are a big part of how I organize the power priorities list.>>34700785Sireyi doesn't actively purchase her powers, she can just tell what kind of powers she might develop in the future vaguely. At least, that's the explanation I recall from before. It's one of the lowest priority paladin powers, partially due to requiring a fairly large amount of prerequisites.
>>34700630>[Flustering intensifies]>If that's what you want...>(Isla might want some too...)Children? Why not!
“I. Didn’t. Plan. This.” You insist “And I’m not sure I’m...I’m ready for marriage yet...because...because...”“Because what?” asks Sofia “Because you don’t want to be with us? Because you don’t love us?”“Plans or no plans” says Jal, cuddling Vivi up to her “Are you gonna tell me you’d change things if yer could, cos I’d really like ter see yer try and lie, that’d be a sight.”“No” you say “I love Vivi and Mili and both of you and I wouldn’t change a thing but...I don’t know if I want to come between you two” you finish lamelyJal’s grin indicates she can see the opportunity in that comment and opens her mouth to point it out when Sofia speaks first “Sireyi” she says kindly “We’ll wait until you feel ready, of course. I know how much a commitment means to you, but both Jal and I love our children and, maybe not today, maybe not this year, but yes, someday we both want another.”“If...If that’s what you want” you say, your eyes occupied with the fascinating floor patterns. Wow, this room is really hot for some reason, maybe you should open a window.“And” says Jal, not about to let that comment go “If you do you can come between us any time you like, maybe twice on holidays eh?”You decide assisting Mili against the *Big Dragon Monster* is the wisest course of action.

So far Sofia and Ophilian appear to be definate, with a 3-way tie for the 3rd spot
>>34701139I thought you were saying we shouldn't bring her because she can't participate in combat and was mocking the method through which you said it because it annoyed me.

Jal is is>>34701232sorry
You decide to approach in the night time, when the undead will most active. You, Sofia and Jal make your usual adventuring preparations. Philly is a little more....enthusiastic.When you meet her in the courtyard she’s wearing her elven armour and has her longsword on her back.On the forearms of her armour and on a band around her forehead is the holy symbol of Konig, a mailed fist. She has a belt full of vials and pouches, and from sound of things her back-pack is full too. She has a couple of wooden stakes strapped to her legs. She notices your slightly worried look.“What?” she says “I got everything: holy water, stakes for vampires, salt for most things, garlic, silver daggers, a mace for skeletons, hatchet for beheadings, no harm in being prepared” she breaks off and nods to Sofia “You sure you’ve got enough?”“Quite sure” says Sofia faintly, looking a little worried.“What, you didn’t want to bring the barrel cart of holy water?” asks Jal“Have I got time to get it?” asks Philly hopefully>No>Philly...we’ll try talking first, then smiting>Let’s just go, ok>Other

>>34701605That brings up a good question, normally all undead are always evil.Is that the case here Pally ? Can there be good non-mindless undead ?
>>34701605>Don't want to immediately kill everything just because it's 'evil'>MoralfagsAre you new?Serious question.>>34701637He confirmed in a early thread the even liches can be good people, so probably.
>>34701658>Are you new?No, I'm very much aware of that tendency here, which is why I cautioned against bringing Ophilia along just for uneccessary drama i we start redeeming the necromancers. Its more about already right at the beginning starting to tell her about the basics of Velyas doctrine which she knows. Thats just pointless except for its own sake.
>>34701637>Can there be good non-mindless undead ?YesThere are also non-evil ways of animating mindless undead.
>>34701637In our spell list it states that it's not evil to raise undead. I assume that the undead aren't evil either. Another fun opportunity missed by not having that spell at this moment.
>>34701658>MoralfagsNot that anon, but a moralfag isn't because you choose to redeem the "evil" necromancer, moralfaggotry is telling our fellow paladin we will try to not kill people, even though she oviously already knows that. Having morals =/= moralfaggotry. Shoving your morals into peoples face just because = moralfaggotry.
>>34701759I thought moralfaggotry was being a obnoxiously nice person and trying to redeem everyone to the point that it started endangering peoples lives and causing all sorts of problems.
>>34701759Where do people even get the idea that 'moralfaggotry' is a bad thing?
>>34701759Normally, I'd agree. But in this case I understood it as reminding the very enthusiastic warrior paladin who talked about going out to smite evil just earlier this thread (and about how she disagrees with Velya's doctrine on this point), that she will most likely not need any of those items because we will talk with them first. At the same time I'm glad one of our pals likes to prepare and encourage her to take the barrel of water, if she thinks that's a good idea.
>>34701794>to the point that it started endangering peoples lives and causing all sorts of problemsMoralfaggotry is basically having "morals" and using it as a excuse to be a selfcentered dick to people.>>34701811>Where do people even get the idea that 'moralfaggotry' is a bad thing?Because it is by definition. If you just have morals thats a fine thing, moralfaggotry is a for if someone is being obnoxious about it.
“Philly...” you say “we’ll try talking first; then smiting if that doesn’t work.”She thinks about this.“What if they ambush us” she counters “Or attack from surprise, or cast a silence spell?”“Just...follow my lead” you say.She shrugs “Ok, but don’t say I didn’t warn you...”You and your companions teleport near the village of Garsfirth (as it was once known) and then approach on foot.As you approach you see three human skeletons rise from a sitting position on the ground and start to walk towards you, their bones rattling with every step. They appear to be carrying knives.Although its night time the stars give you enough light to see by: those aren’t knives, those are wooden tiles, of the sort used in some board games, though your companions might not be able to see that.Or they may not choose to see it.“Prepare to return to the grave! Spawn of Evil!” declares Philly, stepping forward with a vial of holy water in each hand, ready to throw. She looks at you to see if you’re backing her up and then seems to remember the conversation you had less than 15 minutes ago.“Oh, right, yes! She says, embarrassed “Of course, you want to talk to them?”“Is she right in the head?” whispers Jal to Sofia “It’s a Paladin thing” replies Sofia“Yeah? Well how come Sireyi doesn’t jump when she sees a bone?”“I’m not going to respond to that Jal.”“Suit yerself”The lead skeleton is holding up a tile saying GO BACK>Why>Take me to your leader>Introduce yourself>Other
>>34701853I suppose I used a bit of a loaded word in annoyance at the patronizing tone that option has.Since obviously Ophilia knows our stance on the issue, and being our friend, we could just trust instead of having to remind her of not slaying all evil.Taking her preparation instantly as wanting to indescriminatly smite, shows we do not trust her to show caution on her own, thats kinda dickish. If she couldn't deal with that, she wouldn't have come to us of all people.
>>34701794It's hardly a well defined term, being that it's one of the many made-up words 4chan like to create by tagging 'fag' into something else. But what you said is one of the more useful definitions. For me, moralfagging would be when someone sticks to ivory tower principles regardless of real world consequences.
>>34701927>>Why>>Take me to your leader

“Deal with the skeletons!” you say to Sofia and Jal as you fly after Johann, catching him long before Philly and easily stopping him in his tracks simply by grabbing his collar.“That’s it Sireyi!” yells Philly “You hold him and I’ll finish him!”You pull Johann out of the way of Philly’s first sword strike and stop her second with a glare full of all the hurt betrayal you can muster. “I thought we agreed” you say “We talk, first.”Jal and Sofia make short work of the three skeletons. And come rushing up to join you.“He was escaping” Philly defends her actions. You look at her flatly, the young man dangling from your grip. His face is white with fear, and he has a damp stain spreading on the front of his breeches.“Fine” she says, folding her arms and kicking some stones away “We’ll do it your way.”“Now” you say to Johann “Tell me what’s going on.”The three skeletons are trying to reassemble themselves, but keep getting bones in the wrong places, plus they keep using each other’s bones, and they’re all different sizes.According to Johann...He’s a journeyman wizard, he qualified only a few years ago, he came to the abandoned village following rumours of a location of magical power, a wellspring, or nexus, as they are sometimes called. He discovered something far worse. The village was abandoned many years ago, and as best he’s been able to determine, a long time ago a priest of an evil god lived here for years, pretending to be a priest of Yerra, slowly converting many of the townsfolk and corrupting the wellspring.Eventually he was discovered and a small civil war erupted in the village. The priest was killed, as were his acolytes and the surviving villagers left, never to return. But the priests spirit didn’t rest easy and rose from the grave, determined to break into the wellspring and achieve...something.
>>34703793“But it’s locked beneath the Church” babbles Johann “He put warding spells on it himself and now he’s dead, he can’t undo them. He has an army of wraiths, the spirits of his followers and although they’re spirits they’re slowly wearing away at the stones of the Church, hoping to expose the wellspring.”“And what’s with the skeletons?” you ask“I use the skeletons to distract them” he says “Right now, most of them are at the church, trying to disrupt the wraiths and stop them from wearing away at the stone.”Roll Fellowship 1d20+11>Why not ask for help?>Why stay?>Which evil god?>How can your skeletons disrupt wraiths?>Your license?>What do you want the wellspring for?>Other

>SuccessYou don’t think he’s lied to you this time, but he said that he’s learned a lot of this from abandoned diaries and speaking to the descendents of people who fled the village"Be honest with me, help me deal with this situation, and I'll put a good word for you with the churches about dabbling in unsanctioned necromancy." You sayHe nods, still dangling from your grip, you set him down and interrogate him some more.“Which evil god?” you ask“Kolvuk” he saysYou grimace “The life-stealer?” you askHe nods, Philly scowls “damned patron of the undead” she says “Of course, who else?”“Where will he be now?” you ask“in the Church” says Johann, trying to break into the cellar, “By day he rests in the graveyard, in a different grave every day”“What did you want the wellspring for?” you ask“My research?” he says, then noticing your sceptical look he says “Ok, power, alright? It’s not fair that sorcerers are stronger, this was to be my chance to be a master mage.”“Why didn’t you ask anyone for help?” you say “Well” he draws out the word “My application for a necromancy license was declined, and I’d had a falling out with the Paladins of Konig...” that explains his license issues...“Well why stay?” you ask “Wasn’t it dangerous?”“Only at night” he says “And I put a lot of wards on the house I was staying in. And my skeletons protect me.”“About that, how can they disrupt wraiths?” you ask“I invented a spell that does just that.” He says proudly “Allows one undead to attack another, no matter its type, of course” he says “The wraiths do love to tear my skeletons apart, bit of a flaw there” he admits.>Ask questions (what?)>Time to go to Church>Wait until daytime, attack when there is no wraith army>Other

>>34704221Ask him, how powerful he reckons the wraiths to be. If the threat level is deemed manageable, we might want to go in, give the priests and Sofia an opportunity for some target practice.Otherwise, let's return in the daylight to investigate. The wizardling comes with us for change of clothes and inquest. (how long has he been around, what exactly he wants his power from, etc.)
And I’m going to leave it there. Please do vote on options, and feel free to ask questions, I’ll address them in the next thread, or use Ask.fmThank you all for playing; you’ve been great players as always.I’ll hang around for a few minutes to answer any questions. And I’ll leave you with this thought:I’m a big fan of Hellborn quest, and one recurring theme is players imagining alternate universes where the quest has a different main character.I let you all contemplate how Sofia/Jal/Isla/Matthias/Jianxi/etc Quest would run.Next quest will be Tuesday, 12-noon. I need a day to rest. I will post on twitter as usual.Votes in this thread will determine opening post in next thread.
