Your hive has finally broken free of the bonds of your planet’s gravity, and your pod now watches silently from within its cloaking field as the humans of the USV Hope construct a small camp in the jungle of a distant planet. It pains you to see them moving into such a lush environment of bountiful plant and animal life. From the transmissions you have intercepted, most of the life is toxic to the humans’ delicate immune systems, but they seem intent on using the local flora to further their knowledge of biology, which is painfully lacking compared to yourself.Your workers have finally completed the task at hand, placing the finishing touches on your new docking pylon. The large spire reaches up from the mountain side and tapers to a narrow neck holding a bulbous shell of arms and construction yards held high above the cragged peaks of your hive, but the sweltering heat has taken a toll on your workers, claiming a total of 20 of your drones to heatstroke.Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!>Archives http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Hive%20Queen%20Quest>Twitter https://twitter.com/HiveQueenQuest>Various pasta http://pastebin.com/u/QuestDrone

So i had some drone ideas for the future or maybe not so much future. What do you guys think?Name: Communicator/Ambassador/SenserOlfactory: Advanced (2N)Acoustic: Advanced (2N)Radio: Advanced (6N 3M)Elcetrical Sensitivity: Advanced (3N 2M)Psionic: Moderate (50N)Mandible: Vocalizer (2N)Arm: Dexterity (1N)Legs: None (0N)Wings: Advanced (4N)Chassis: Aerodynamic (4N 10M)Ramjet: (16N 6M)Size small (10cm): (90N*0.25=22.5 21M*0.25=5.25M)Purpose: A drone to be used as universal communicators. They should be able to communicate with a wide variety of species and is equipped accordingly. They also have high air manoeuvrability so they can make a fast escape. Because of Medium Psionics they are highly valuable. Can work as ambassadors.Name: Spyfly(or something)Olfactory: Advanced (2N)Acoustic: Advanced (2N)Radio: Advanced (6N 3M)Elcetrical Sensitivity: Advanced (3N 2M)Psionic: Basic (0N)Mandible: Special (?) (I would like a mandible which is able to bite into wires, read and hopefully change the electrical signal in them)Arm: Dexterity (1N)Legs: Endurance (1N)Wings: Advanced (4N)Chassis: Standard (0N)Self destruction: Acid (1N)Oxygen recycler: (?)Cloaking field: (?) Size: Small (4cm) (20N*0.25=5 5M*0.25=1.25M)Purpose: For spying and hacking purposes.
>>335435781st: Little expensive, but good if we ever end up in a major diplomatic environment. Shame that'll never happen. as such this design is a little redundant.2nd: I like the idea of hacking. Could eventually be used as a template for a construction drone if we ever went into building something huge that we couldnt grow from a single egg in any reasonable timeframe. Only really useful if we start invasions and boarding actions though.Might be a good idea to make a small group of no.2 for any landing ships, but otherwise focus on upping current drone and worker numbers is a better investment.
>>33543578Not bad, I like the Communicator drone. The biggest issue is it seems like so far we don't really have much of a use for them.
>>33543578>Ramjet>small>Aerodynamic chassis>having mandibles>Aerodynamic: The chitin has been shaped to form large wings and a sleek profile. If it has legs or arms they are almost useless, and the body has been fused into a single fuselage. More a vehicle than a drone, drones with aerodynamic shapes require help from workers to move on the ground, and dedicated hangars to heal, feed, and rest. (4N10M)But can't this wait till after bump limit? Please? QM quits whenever the thread hits page 9 no matter how early that is.
>Have Coil deal with itYou quickly call for him and your speaker explains the situation."Keep them away."Coil moves up to the console and reads the line of text himself. "They won't wait for much longer. I can stall them for a while, I think." He says as he awkwardly types on the keys. It is obvious they were not designed with his physiology in mind."Engine damage sustained. Repairs underway. Will take time.""That should do it." He says."Will they not send a team to help?""No." He responds. "Too expensive."The device goes dormant again as the transmission is sent. You wonder how long it will be before they start to get too curious.Your docking pylon has been finished, and is ready to begin construction of your fledgling fleet.
Rolled 71>>33543578Well the Communicator/Ambassador/Senser isn't going to do any good as an ambassador if he's 10cm long. Also you can't fit a moderate psionic augment on a small drone.I'd be down for creating one (sans ramjet, which requires a jet-sized drone) as our new 'Speaker' though.
>>33543709I think it would be a good idea to first upgrade our speaking mutation to more accurately mimic sounds. maybe study the speakers in the ship or something for that.
>>33543682Could we create a hybrid drive? You know one that tries to combine the advantages of both.>>33543737You mean like a Lyre bird?
>>33543682Just one Corvette.Ships are expensive, and one Corvette with a cloaking device is enough to land a remote eggsac and some worker drones on a planet to colonize it. And then move the Corvette on to the next planet.>Cost: 400N 800M>+50N, 150M for cloaking
>>33543770Yeah. Currently, our speaker clicks and clacks its mandibles when speaking. If the point of the template is communication, I think it would be better if it could perfectly mimic any language. Which means I think we should research mimetic skin as well.
>>33543681Ah yes, sorry. But if we meet more humans a hacker drone could be very useful.
Rolled 43>>33543820I was under the impression that the point was to make a drone that masquerades as a diplomat while actually mostly being a spy.
>>33543770>Available ship hullshttp://pastebin.com/a7Q1shZe>Available ship systemshttp://pastebin.com/YTwGk8n1>>33543770Hybrid drive? How do you mean?
>>33543841Well, whatever the ulterior motives, being able to speak clearly with all of the known races would be beneficial.
>>33543857I think he means a ship that uses the Slip drive for sublight and Blink drive for FTL. I don't know what kind of fuel we require for a Slip drive, but hydrogen-3 is stupid easy to get.
>>33543879Fair enough, I suppose a creepy bug thing that speaks perfectly clear unaccented english is possibly more disconcerting than one that speaks english interspersed with shitloads of random clicks.
>>33543682Corvette with cloaking loaded up with Plasma Lances seems like the most economical option for emergency defense.
>>33543770>bothBoth what? Slip Drive and Blink Drive? No, obviously not.>>33543857Presuming a Corvette has room for cargo to transport drones to a new planet?Corvette + cloaking + Advanced psionic relay.Regular armor.Turret weapons: Cyclotron Beam, Railgun.Fixed weapons: Cyclotron Particle Beam, Auto Cannon. No spinal weapon, want dat Consumption beam.
>>33543911The Slip drive requires the crystals to function, which cannot be reproduced, but they do not require any fuel at all as far as you can tell. You have enough crystals to outfit one ship of any size with a Slip drive at the moment.
>>33543857I am thinking of two corvette ship to start with. One for defensive/in system use, one to explore with.
>>33543943Hey, going down the line of research of mimetic skin, we might even be able to perfectly mimic the appearance of other species, adding even more to the spy and creep factor.
>>33543943We do have other options.
>>33544009Your right. We should abandon the translator, and develop a language of interpretive dance, and force other species to learn and communicate in it despite the fact that we understand them perfectly fine!
>>33544102i love it!
>>33544102I would be amused if we did this. It wouldn't even be that hard.
>>33544102I would honestly vote for this if it was serious.
A cloaked Frigate with:>Spine: Railgun>Turret: Cyclotron>Fixed: Plasma Lance>Aux: whateverWould run 875N and 2325M if I'm not messing up somewhere. That's significant stealth assault potential while maintaining some defensive with the cyclotron acc debuff.
>>33543682Each ship has four weapon classes, which modify the stats of the weapon equipped there. Obviously ships with more of a kind of weapon mount will be more effective with them, but they also change the stats of the weapons themselves. Turrets are the most balanced, while fixed mounts have more damage but are less accurate, auxiliary mounts decrease damage but increase accuracy, and spinal mounts drastically increase damage at the cost of accuracy, and the effect scales with the size of the ship, so bigger ships would be more damaging but less accurate.I know it's complicated, but I wanted to make sure to give you a good mix of options.
>>33544134Let's go with this
>>33544142That is far too expensive. We need to quadruple mining income before we squirt any frigates out of our bulbous ass.Just one Corvette for the moment, for stealth colonization purposes. Then lay more diggers and refineries and survey for a new mining location. Maybe on the exact opposite side of the planet, just so future mercenaries won't easily find it as our backup base.
>>33544142Seems like switching the Plasma Lance and Cyclotron positions would be better.
Linear Particle Beams look badass
>>33544196You know that if we lay a couple of bare-bones corvettes that are specced for mining we'll be rolling in metals by harvesting asteroids, right?
>>33544200That's what I thought at first, but if you're building the ship around sneak attacks, better to put the short range weapons in the higher-damage class. Also, Plasma Lances don't have the range for the higher accuracy of Turret slots to really benefit them most of the time.
>>33544155Current suggestions>Unarmed cloaked corvette (450N 950M)>Stealth frigate>Spine: Railgun>Turret: Cyclotron>Fixed: Plasma Lance>Aux: unknown(875N 2325M)>Other
>>33544341>>Unarmed cloaked corvetteAdd a psionic relay to it and it's good. The frigate would take up literally everything we have and we really shouldn't be optimizing for fights at this stage of development when we can optimize for *avoiding* fights.
>>33544341I'll vote for the Stealth Frigate. We've got a Docking Spire now, so we need some sort of space defenses to make sure it stays there.
>>33544155Did you forget to add are Oxygen Recyclers and Radiator tubes to the drone design sheet? Because I'm not seeing them.
>>33544341Despite suggesting the Frigate in the first place, >>33544231 has a really good point. Space mining with the corvette could get us the metals we need.>captcha: mining chgulyName of our first space mine right here guys.
>>33544341Corvette.To uncharted systems! We can detect the usefulness of planets of nearby systems right? We did at the start of the first thread after all.
>>33544341I think the Corvette is the best way to go.
>>33544341I would vote for 2 cloaked mining corvettes with Plasma Lance turrets myself. That way they can get us our metals, and serve as surprise-attack space defenses in dire straits.
>>33544341Going to have to go with stealth corvetewe get consumption beam for free right?will basically have a stealth miner which can get more materials for more ships.
>>33544341>Unarmed stealth corvetteBy default it will be equipped with a Consumption beam. Would you like to add any weapons to the other mounts?(450N 950M) + 200N 250M if you wish to add a relay. It is capable of operating on its own for simple missions like a thinker otherwise.>>33544407I guess it didn't update right. It should be fixed now though, thanks for letting me know.
>>33544585I'd say yes to a relay, with out scouting any sort of distance is basically impossible.
>>33544585We should add the relay. We may need to use it in battle and it'd be best to have direct control over it
>>33544585Add Plasma Lance turret and fixed mountings for another 90M? The thing probably isn't going to stand a straight up fight anyway.
>>33544636Plus being stealthy requires some pretty quick thinking if things go sour, I strongly suggest we invest in a relay and>>33544673add those too so we have SOME sort of defense
>>33544585Could we make the ship look like a human ship?
>>33544722I imagine we might be able to, but it seems like that would take a lot of research.
>>33544722maybe but it might cost alot and if we break cloaking, which they don't have, it will be a pretty dead give away.
>>33544341Could we apply the Radiator Tubes to are Infrastructure to improve it's ability of keeping are hive cool or would it be pointless?
>>33544767It would a dead give away that it's not one of their ships. Remember the Hel's Angel had one.
>>33544806It could but the thermal exhaust might break stealth>>33544845yes, but his ship is unique enough to make it very suspicious that we have one and we appeared right out of nowhere.
>>33544585>Scout corvetteStealth fieldStandard armorConsumption beamTurrets: Plasma lanceFixed guns: Plasma lanceAuxiliary guns: None(are you sure?)Advanced relay650N 1290MThis would be a fast, stealthy ship capable of moving undetected by enemy forces. It would be incapable of attacking any farther out than point blank range, but with its stealth abilities it would be capable of tremendous alpha strike damage. It would also be capable of collecting resources from asteroids, small moons, gas giants or nebulae as it scouts the universe.
>>33544906Oh weapons. Well. Honestly I'd rather:Turret: Cyclotron Particle Beam, Fixed: Railgun, Auxiliary: Auto Cannon...Also, I don't understand how Linear Particle Beam doesn't have Very High Damage compared to the Cyclotron's High, or why it's Acc: Medium instead of High like the C-Beam, either.
>>33544906Sound good but We might want some cheap auxiliaries just in-case>>33544930Something like that as long as we don't replace the consumption beam as we need a return on this investment
>>33544930Yeah, i pretty much agree with that for weapons.
>>33544906I mean if we're committed to the surprise! attack Plasma lance, then there's no point having it on Turrets AND Fixed. Just stick the Cyclotron on Turrets, Plasma on Fixed, Auxiliary takes the Auto Cannon.
>>33544982Sounds good to me.
>"Happy Birthday," CorvetteStealth fieldStandard armorConsumption beamTurrets: Cyclotron particle beamFixed guns: Plasma lanceAuxiliary guns: autogunAdvanced relay
>>33544906>Balanced combatTurret: CyclotronFixed: RailgunAux: Auto cannon>Ambush combatTurret: CyclotronFixed Plasma lanceAux: Auto cannon>>33544930The stats are assumed to be from the perspective of a turret. The decrease in accuracy is because it's larger than the cyclotron, and so it has a hard time tracking the target. Its limiting factor is that it needs more space to be effective, so a spinal mount would deal far more damage. It also has a higher rate of fire, as it fires a continuous beam as opposed to a series of pulses.
>>33544982The point of having Plasma Lances on both fixed and turret is for massive point blank assault damage. Also, avoided Auxilary because they're basically useless against anything larger than fighters and 8 would come out to another 80MThis is a small and fragile ship, I don't think drying to diversify it will pay off.
>>33545059Yeah, pretty much.>>33545084>Ambush Combat
>>33545093Eh, 80M isn't that much in the scheme of things and it'd really suck to lose the whole ship to fighter attacks just because we wanted to be stingy in creation.
Wait a second.Plasma Lance – A twisting vortex of magnetic fields guide a powerful plume of superheated plasma towards the target, dealing massive damage and cooking the ship’s interior. Due to the nature of the weapon, the plasma dissipates rapidly, making it only viable at very close range, such as during boarding actions.Dmg: Very high ThermalRoF: HighRng: Very shortAcc: LowSpecial: Slow Roast – This weapon bypasses the target’s armor and shields entirely, cooking the crew alive and melting critical ship functions.>This weapon bypasses the target’s armor and shields entirely>SHIELDSEnergy shields confirmed.

Another reason to focus on ambush combat at this point is that our ships aren't that maneuverable compared to Union, Ceph, or Unity vessels. Trying to slug it out at range, especially with lightly armored ships, probably wont work too well.

>>33547758>Start constructionYou lay your new drones and your corvette returns with its bounty, unloading the ore and loading the precious cargo of eggs.-468NYour ship quickly returns to the asteroid and unloads the supplies. The base is within range of your shuttles, meaning transport should offer no problem for the extracted metal and supplies of nutrients. A crew of workers quickly cover the entrance, and the small crater is slowly filled with air. The process is simple, but takes several hours as your workers quickly move in and out of the ship to breath. As they finish setting up the last of the hive walls along the interior, and the last of the eggs are places within the new base, your corvette undocks from the hulking rock and unloads your workers back on your world.Meanwhile, you detect a sudden surge of activity among the humans. According to the intercepted transmissions, they have named the planet Raligha."Hope, we found something along the fence, we think it's whatever tried to get in last night.""Can you send up a picture, ground team?""Roger. We'll bring it in for dissection and send up samples."The image is grainy due to the poor angle to receive the transmission your pod has, but you manage to make it out clear enough. It has a round body, like a drum, with five limbs circling around each end. You can't find anything like a face or head, and the body is covered in a mixture of fur and rubbery sacs."Ground team, can you confirm that's all one animal?""Yes sir. Guys, we need to throw the asteroid at the nearby starships. Make it look like an accident.

>>33548739Crap the the union boxed in the the commonwealth at FG-883That must be why its given to the valen and given religious charter as neutral ground So OM-759 and A-295 may be in the process of being claimed by the commonwealth Huh they union and commonwealth are going to come to a fight soon then

>>33548757>They're not efficient though.Considering they can grow anywhere as long as you have those minerals they're fucking efficient. I mean they don't much to work with.
>>33548832No we don't.We're still in a very precarious position and the possibility that we'd be discovered negates any possible unstated benefits.
>>33548916What's more efficient is a less sensitive and specialized crop that can grow just on electricity alone. We just need to build a quantum power tap to get infinite electricity to power hundreds of secret underground farms without need for sunlight on any planet we want.
>>33548741>Lay replacement workers>Start new construction10 more farms and expand the hanger bays. We might need them to dock our fleet better.
>>33548885That seems like it would give our opponents reasons to start not playing fair. And even if they don't play fair, we must uphold the honor of our race. Massed ground troops, spaceship jousting, and making vassals of defeated peoples.
>>335487413258N 1613MCurrent suggestions>Replace workers (20)>Lay new workers (20)>Build farms (20)>>33548867Actually, the blue line is the border of Union space, and the green is the known border of Commonwealth space. >>33548889They're yet another Idea Guy, don't harsh their posting with 'logic' or 'facts'.
>>33548664I think we should check out the giant beetles some more. Maybe consider demesticating them and using them for food or we could just study them and see if they have any predators. if they do new research subject and if they don't we just have a better understanding of there place in the ecosystem.
>>33548916We haven't sucked our thinkers on them yet.And if we research biochemical manipulation the likelihood that we can increase the efficiency of all our farms goes up.
>>33548935>Quantum power tapOkay so you're suicidal good to know.
>>33548949>do all of them, they all will benefit us in the long run
>>33548938The fleet size is good as is for the next 3 threads (excluding pods)
>>33548949Build Farms. We will make new workers after the farms.
>>33548966Using animals for food is inefficient. Nutrients and time are wasted raising and growing the animal. When it's possible to just hoover up the food the animal would eat, turn it in to mulch, and spit it into the veins/mouths of your populace, you have no need for meat animals.
>>33548885Technically, yes, but it would be very, very difficult to pull off even at close range. A jump within a thousand kilometers of the target would be considered an accurate jump. A jump within the target itself would be astronomical, but still possible.
>>33548995It was an example. You can use any other limitless source of electricity.Besides, it's only dangerous in the immediate area. You can have a power plant with the quantum power tab miles away from anything actually valuable, and have long power lines carry the electricity.
>>33548949So the broken blue line is what the union is claiming at there perspective and doesn't include what the the commonwealth have to sayhuh good to know thanks
>>33548966Just a point anon. Using animals for nutrients is incredibly inefficient. The larger the animal and the higher up the food chain you go the more inefficient it becomes. Its really best to get our nutrients from plants or bacteria as we are currently doing. >>33549010Damn, I figured that'd be the case. Thanks QD
>>33549010So what you are saying is that we should aim at planets instead of ships.Neat.
>>33549003Exactly.I don't know why cattle anon keeps bringing it up for weeks now, it's like they cannot into food webs.
>>33548949>Replace workers (20)>Lay new workers (20)>Build farms (20)Sounds good.
>>33549016How about instead of trying to figure out how to sustain our current method of farming we innovate new crops. Or at least mess with the genes of the mushrooms to make it more viable.
>>33549016And how do you excpect plants to just grow on electricity? We have no way of making that nor could it be done because you can not make matter from nothing.
For some reason I can't help but think that we resemble Akrid from Lost Planet more than Klackons / Hivers from MoO and SoTS.Anyone else?
>>33549066Sure, but we should have all the new workers (incl replacements) be heat-sink ones.In case we need to build something outside. At the very worst, we just recycle them when they prove to be of no use.
>>33549072Read the previous threads. Our farms are all filled with a fungus that thrives off of electricity.
>>33549098I agree with the new workers being heat resistant and then being recycled after Summer.
>>33549072With our electro algae we farm right now, obviously.Duh, we can have soil underground for the algae to grow in, the point is to keep the farms underground where sensors won't detect them as easily.I didn't mean electricity substituted for soil.>>33549068What possible advantage would there be?

When are we going to invest in another egglayer? We should put the rest of the planet's colonization into autopilot so we can focus on other things.
>>33549098No argument here. Its definitely best to make them heat-sink ones. Btw, what is the effectiveness of our recycling? I don't remember. If its 100% it may be best to convert all the workers who are not working on farms to Heat-Sink ones
>>33549163We don't need one until we want to colonize a new planet. We should put one aboard the Corvette for colonization purposes, yes.But we haven't scouted out a planet we can colonize without humans present yet.

>>33549135Instead of getting 100N from each farm we get 150N or maybe even 200N.Also reducing the amount of electricity needed for the fungus to thrive.
>>33549135You do realize that your plan would take a shit ton to attempt and if we fail we have to start over from scratch.
>>33549178I'm talking about the fungi planet. We need to make the ground crawling with our drones so that the humans don't step foot here.
>>33548949>Workers (40)>Farms (20)You quickly lay your new workers and the eggs are placed with care throughout your throne room. Your workers are quick to dig out the caverns for the new farm expansions, and the sound of clattering stone echoes through the twisting tunnels of your hive.Next day

But it's still pretty decent.
>>33549192We are not limited by the number of eggs we can lay, we are limited by resources. Getting an egg layer would not increase our rate of growth one bit.
>>33549175It's something like 1/2 or 3/4.
>>33549190I don't exactly plan on it anytime soon, but.The power tap is not exactly likely to explode unless it's actively attacked. It can be hidden deep underground and shielded heavily and kept far away from the rest of the hive.
>>33549225It would let us settle another continent. We can't be two places at once.
>>33549219if you throw in a remote egglayer then I agree. Because at that point we have all we need to start colonizing. Also the egglayer would enable the corvette to resupply its compliment with access to nutrients and metals.
>>33549260Not yet, anyway.Speaking of which, we really should dick around with those crystals.
>>33549219>>33549292Agreeing with this, throw in and egglayer and use that so we can stealth colonize
>>33549260No that's stupid. It's trivial to ferry drones across the planet, or off the planet within the system.Only FTL jumps are a meaningful barrier. One eggsac per star.
>>33549292>>33549310>>33549219Swap out a honeypot for an egglayer, then.
>>33549260I agree with your values of trying to expand as fast as possible, I think we'd need to figure out how exponential growth to fully take advantage of that.
>>33549260We can move things around our planet pretty quick with shuttles as it is.
>>33549303How about we wait till we get friendly with the Ceph to do that.
>>33549252Setting up a power tap requires two black holes do you even know what it takes to create one and not mention how dangerous the fucking things are.
>>33549003I mostly just want to observer them, but I want to do that for all the creatures we find. You know just to see how they fit into the ecosystem and if they lead us to any new species that could be used to better the hive. I just think it would be a good way to find new species and such. Also, maybe it'll result in tradeable information for barter with the unity.
>>33549260Your right its how it should be and we can keep production going even if we need to evac the queen
>>33549364>Setting up a power tap requires two black holes do you even know what it takes to create one and not mention how dangerous the fucking things are.Uh.The Queen knows how to create the quantum power tap. It just requires some Canderon. Which we have.We researched it.They're very small black holes that are only dangerous within like, a 100 meter range when they implode. We've SEEN what happens when one implodes. Anything sufficiently distant is perfectly safe.
>>33549366That's a really cool part of this quest isn't it? Seeing what strange new creatures are on this planet and how they fit into their ecosystem.
>>33549395No we haven't. We stopped it before it imploded. This is like trying to cover the world in telegraph lines. It's an inefficient way to keep using something that can be improved upon.
>>33549405Yeap. I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of the planet. Especially the ocean, because just imagine the creatures that lurk in the depths below.
>>33549453>No we haven't. We stopped it before it imploded. You are one dense motherfucker. What the hell do you think happened to the human beacon in thread 4?>telegraph linesOr, you know... power lines.I'm not suggesting to cover the world with them. I'm saying to, if establishing a new colony that must be secret, have a farm complex with a power plant safely separated from it.They don't need to cover the whole world, that's just silly.
>>33549453Actually we witnessed one implode. It was when we first encountered the Humans. Their generator imploded, killed a shitload of people and destroyed much of their camp.I miss Lee
>>33549513I miss lee toowe should totally call this planet Leeland
>>33549135Just going to raise a point that if we mess with the mushroom as Anon proposes it would have the benefit of not needing electricity to grow.On other planets, asteroid bases, and the like it would be advantageous to not HAVE to produce a massive electric field to make food. That would increase visibility of our agricultural areas vastly.
>>33549205>Resources: 3636N 1863MYour corvette flashes into existence just on the edge of a vast stellar debris field. The telltale signs of a planet can be seen deep within the dense cloud of dust and gas, but it is difficult to detect. Your ship wraps itself in a layer of curved light and moves in closer for a better view. The planet is small and harsh, just skimming the inner edge of habitability. Its surface is an irradiated sea of shifting dunes, pocketed with islands of crags, with vast mountains and valleys splitting the continents. There is telltale signs of water where springs have been uprooted and exposed by the harsh winds, but they are few and far between. You detect a signal, very faint, coming from the planet's surface. A ship near one of the largest, and one of the only, rivers you can detect on the surface. There are a number of oddly shaped buildings huddled along the edge of the river, and under further investigation you find a number of large object within the river itself. I grabbed a Star Wars vehicle and vessels guide because I thought it might provide some cool inspiration. Our large drones are kind of like AT-TEs aren't they
>>33549395>CanderonThat's a nonrenewable resource anon. Using a power tap only for our farms is like using a nuclear reactor to power the light in your house. In other words inefficient.

So i still think its a good idea to add an engine to the asteroid, even if we aren't gonna be using it as a weapon since we can transform it into a ship at a later date(the ship would be inside the hunk of rock)
>>33549496We should consider kidnapping samples off of other planets, especially as a prep step for colonization. Hmm... a ship-side research lab might be a worthy investment to figure out.>>33549508It's worth considering that those taps probably have a huge signature.

As the first few lay still in the sand you manage to get a good look at them. They are long, serpentine creatures covered in a thin, matted fur and scale hide, with four pairs of leathery wings along their bodies, each one ending in a long, sharp set of prehensile claws. Their heads are elongated beaks of black bone, filled with razors of dark colored tooth-like scales, and five black eyes dot its face, two on each side and one in the middle. Their heads trail a long set of strips, and tattered cloth clings to their bodies.Your warriors continue their fire, and you see two of the creatures slowly stir back up from the ground. Chitin slugs fall from open wounds and they charge again, only to be put down with another volley.Your workers have managed to open the door, sending sand cascading into the hulk's interior. It is a dark room covered in discarded refuse and shattered bulkheads, but you think it was once a bunk room for a crew of some sort. Rotten beds are carved into the walls, each one a small circle of petrified padding with a small rod in the center.>Fall back into the wrecked ship>Continue to fire>Attempt to attack with your corvette>Other>>33550686That would be because I had made a clerical error that lasted a thread before being spotted by a kind anon in the general. I fixed it immediately and refunded the nutrients.

>>33550948No work tomorrow, so I will be able to run a 2 parter tonight if everyone is up for it.Need to finish the encounter first, though.
>>33550942>fall back into the wreck then open fire with the corvettewe've got to hit them harder
>>33550942>>Fall back into the wrecked shipMaybe we should... psionically talk to them? Not that they're likely to respond intelligibly.
>>33550942>Fall back into the wrecked ship
>>33550942>Continue to firewhile the workers search.
>>33550942>Fall back into the wrecked shipI'm totally up for a 2parter
>>33550942>Fall back into the derelictPlease roll 1d100, best of 3
>>33550984I am so up for it.
Rolled 97>>33551050New thread? You did say you don't have anything to do tomorrow.
>>33551050Your drones move back, firing as they make their way into the hull of the crashed ship. One of the creatures lunges at your warriors, taking one of them into a wall of rusted hull. Its beak gnashes madley at your warrior as it wrestles with it, and your drone manages to place its blade into the creature's front-right eye. A strange sound of grating mettle and a small pout of sparks fly as the eye erupts in the skull. The creature keeps thrashing, and as your drones work to pry it off you hear the sound of cracking mettle as the charging hoard starts to open fire.A deep gash into the creatures side puts it down, and a mixture of sand and charred ash falls from the wound. Your warrior limps into the corridor after its brothers, it has taken extensive damage, with deep scratches along its carapace marking where the claws had torn through its armor. You spin your drones about and have them ready to take advantage of the bottleneck, but the screaming stops. You can still see the corpse of the alien you had killed resting in the sand just past the hall, and after a short while it twitches. As its head raises you tear into it, ripping it into pieces with a hail of chitin. It falls down again, dead, and this time it appears to stay that way.Above, your ship watches as the strange creatures halt, and then fall limp to the ground. That's it for this thread. Lets have a short intermission and then we can start part 2.
>>33551255QD do you like roguelikes?
>>33551304Kinda, I dabble with dwarf fort now and then, but it's too much of a time sink to be able to play as much as I'd like, so I never have the time to get very good at them.Of course that's part of the fun, honestly.
Rolled 38>>33551339>dwarf fortthat game might as well be moon runes for me.
>>33551339>www.roguebasin.com/index.php?title=List_of_Roguelikes_by_ThemeTry looking through these sometime.I personally suggest Transcendence.
>>33551255I've got some caffeine and am ready for part 2
>>33551350>moon runesLooks like somebody needs to git dwarf, or git >>>/elf/>>33551255These creatures have cloth on their bodies, yes?Worked cloth?
>>33551506They're mechanical too.
>>33551255Sand and Ash falling from the wound. That's a little unnerving.
Rolled 8>>33551506They seem to be robotic also.Very interesting.
>>33551506From the looks of it, very old cloth. It crackles as they move, and is too mated and aged to even flap in the breeze of the desert. The eye you punctured was also definitely mechanical in nature.
Rolled 40>>33551613new thread?its been 25 minutes
>>33551556>>33551561Sounds like automated guard robits, then.I suppose the question is why tachyons.Maybe whoever built this ship used them to control their robots? And the low murmur we detected was simple "you still there, robots?" back and forth, with the screech being a "KILL" command. The mechanical nature of the commands would explain why it sounds like gibberish to us.Mostly just curious to see what we find.
>>33551649The are on a planet with tachyon devices. We need to get them off this planet.
>>33551649Or maybe they're some mix of robot and organic life?QD did say they liked Mass Effect.
>>33551693What Tachyon devices? The robots aren't necessarily controlled by Tachyons. Though they might be...The only thing to do is survive and find out!
Part 2 is up.>>33551791
