Prev thread>>33510752You are Sireyi Valyenya, 18 years old, you are on your first quest. You're about to fight a bunch of pirates on an airship powered by lightning, the middle of a storm.“Stormwings? Lightning Core?” you ask out loud, you’ve not heard these terms. You’ve moved inside after the announcement and are standing with some of the other passengers, after hearing the captains orders. One of the card-playing passengers learns over and says “A pretty rare item m’dear, supposedly dedicated to a storm god” he chuckles “of course, the gods aren’t real, some sorcerers built it long ago to impress the ignorant. It gathers lightning from storms and converts it into magical energy. As part of an airships engine it would grant them unbeatable speed.”“The stormwings are these winged harnesses that let the wearers fly, but only near the Lightning Core.”“Supposedly the priests of the storm god could draw power from the ‘Core, a never-ending source of energy in a storm” he says “the stormwings were given to the gods warriors and had some different powers, lesse: flight, resistance to lightning, the ability to detect magic, something else, something else...” he trails off “either way, you’re going to see something that seldom graces the skies any longer, now must dash, need to hide the family jewels.” He bustles off. You’ve decided not to get the crew to fight the pirates, stealth will win the day. Whatever you want to get over there to do, first you need to get there. Will you?>Leave the ship without anyone seeing you and fly over there (Sireyi and 1 other can go, not Bokin)>Wait until pirate ship docks with yours (taking who?)>Ride the Lightning to the ship (taking who?)
>>33516307>Ride the Lightning to the ship (taking who?)might as well take everyone. No one will be safe alone.
>>33516340>autism>>33516307>Wait until pirate ship docks with yours (taking who? all companions)lets not RTL in a storm guys
>>33516340Leave.>>33516307>Sneak onboard with Gendric, Sofia and JalBokin doesn't seem stealthy.Reminder that RTL costs 5 divine energy for every person we bring and we have 27 max.
>>33516307I think waiting until the pirate's are docked might be a bit risky, seeing how the docking places would be swarming with them.RTL might also be a bad idea, with the Lightning core and all, but we don't know about how it actually works, if it like attracts all lightning nearby to it or something then that might be bad... or really good if the lightning core is the previously mentioned magical item.Wings could be too obvious. So I guess I'm just going to mention these points for other anons.
>>33516423>>33516413Ah, good points. Might be best to sneak aboard once the ship docks. mainly due to the cost of RTL. Also I would prefer to have everyone come with us. Last thing we need is someone getting raped or murdered while we are gone
>>33516307Can we wait for the docking then head on over as a group?

>>33516549It's a spell, so it takes a normal action to use.Ok, so most popular option appears to be, wait until docking then head over as a group, writing
>>33516584>hint, it's not on yoir shipI'm suddenly overwhelmed by paranoia.Guys, what if we have to crush one or both of the ships, then crashland somewhere close to the item?
>>33516584Can we cast it on others, perhaps together with scrying?>chronosphere
You decide to wait until the pirate ship docks with yours, and then you will all head over together. The pirate ship approaches the raises and lowers several flags, as does your ship.Eventually something is agreed. A dozen winged forms launch themselves from the pirate ship and head towards yours, as they approach you can see they are humans and part-demons wearing harnesses with wings made from metal wire jutting from behind them. Tiny sparks play all over the wings. They fly towards your ship and land on deck, giving orders to the crew and telling all passengers to go and wait in their cabins, that the pirate ship will be docking soon and that they should get their valuables ready. You’ll need to decide where to go, whilst waiting for the pirate ship to dock, as the stormwing-equipped pirates are clearing the deck of people.>Go wait in your cabin>Hide somewhere on your ship>Remain on deck, try to convince pirates you should be there>OtherThe Pirate ship is close now and its approach is slowing, you can see pirates on its decks reading grappling hooks and ropes. Electricity crawls across the entire ship, but seems more centered towards the lower decks of the pirate ship.Around you the storm howls and heavy rain falls.
>>33516704Yes, but each time DD allows only a single person to pass through. Multiple castings would be required to get everyone there and back.
>>33516706>Hide somewhere on your ship
>>33516706Hide on our ship.
>HideOk, roll 1d20 to hide, single roll for entire party
>>33516706>harnesses with wings made from metal wireFry them with lightning.
I think we need to try to find out more about this lightning core. If it is related to the storm god, what do we know about him? Would his followers/clerics be good-aligned? If so, they would probably be outlaws of some sort on this plane, and we could probably become friendly with them given that we're an angel with storm powers.
>>33516791>“Supposedly the priests of the storm god could draw power from the ‘Core, a never-ending source of energy in a storm” he says “the stormwings were given to the gods warriors and had some different powers, lesse: flight, resistance to lightning, the ability to detect magic, something else, something else...” he trails off “either way, you’re going to see something that seldom graces the skies any longer, now must dash, need to hide the family jewels.” He bustles off.>Gives them resistance to lightningNo.
>>33516785dayumSeems like we're about to get enslaved again.
>>33516793pretty good, it's not like they're going to thoroughly search the ship, first things first, they're going to go to the cabins for the easy loot

>>33516863We have the Lightning Halo, so this might actually work.Do this.
>>33516863How is the pirates' appearence, do they look like someone worshipping good gods or just like any other criminal? Should we roll for fellowship or something?
>>33516888>>33516911I don't know. It's awesome, but very unpaladinlike to impersonate a deity.
>SuccessYou and your companions hide in a room on one of the lower decks. You feel an impact as the pirate ship is dragged into contact with yours, pirates come aboard but do not find you.You peer out of a porthole and see pirates ferrying loot from the passenger ship to the pirate ship, the two ships are held together with ropes, some at deck level but a few have clearly been thrown from the lower portholes of one ship to another, the portholes are open, its a tight squeeze but any of you except Bokin could make it.If you don’t act now, the pirates will be gone. You could use magic to get across, or try to sneak on deck and climb across the higher ropes, or climb along the lower ropes and squeeze into a porthole. How will you get onto the pirate ship?>Use Dimension Door to get everyone across>Ride the Lightning (open porthole counts) - pretending to be avatar of storm god optional>Go up on deck, sneak across high ropes (might get spotted by pirates)>Climb across lower ropes into portholes (less chance of getting spotted, but if you fall, you’re miles up in the air) - Bokin cannot do this>Other

Ride the Lightning (open porthole counts) - pretending to be avatar of storm god optional
>>33516980What.That doesn't even make sense.Did you not read the archives? There can be multiple gods, and our lightning powers come from us being exposed to crazy-powerful storm elemental mana due to our mother being a diplomatic envoy to the Storm Court when she was carrying us.It has nothing to do with any gods.
>>33516963Do we have the juice to DDoor people across? Do that.

>>33517122What if RTL gets drawn right into the core room?Somebody would sense the burst of angel juice, we wouldn't be able to RTL out due to it just getting drawn back in, they probably don't worship the god, we can't redeem that many people so quickly, we'd have to fight everyone on the other ship even if this one surrenders to us, etc. etc.
>>33517124>Mathias>spelling it with one tI love you anon.

>>33517172>Scry for Lightning Core, go there
We are not taking the girls, are we? They are far too squishy for this, cannot handle themselves in a fight and don't seem the type to like dangerous situations.
>>33517145We don't have to deceive them. We are an angel, we use storm magic and we were sent by a god.I'm sure we can bend the rules some way, to get their respect without deceiving them too much.

>>33517350>scry for empty room, go thereI'm imagining the Lightning Core as something with huge tesla-coil like projections everywhere and lots of electricity sparking everywhere. Sounds like a place that's not too friendly. Even if that is not the case, there may be guards posted to make sure that nobody messes with it.

You think it has the lightning core within it, but the picture is too fuzzy to make out details. You can see that there is a single man in the engine room, tending to the engine. You gather your arcane energies and open a doorway through to the engine room of the other ship. Gendric quickly dives through. It was easy opening that despite the interference (AE 27/34)“Uh Sireyi? Says Sofia, pointing at your head, you have a storm on your head.”You look up, your halo has appeared and is dancing with lightning. You didn’t make that happen.Maybe being this close to the ‘Core is messing with your storm powers, in fact, there’s no maybe, you can feel your energies draining away (DE 26/27), lightning crackling around you.All of your storm abilities beg to be released at once in a cascade of energy, like their power is trying to force their way out of your skin. You shut your halo off, you hope no one noticed the brief burst of divine energy it gave off.Gendric is through safely. Gendric rushes over to the engineroom door and locks it, piling up anything he can find to block it.You’ve resisted its call, for now. You pull pieces off the engine, tearing away metal like its paper, although eager to get to the ‘Core you’re not doing so without thinking and instead you are carefully peeling parts off it. Part of the engine explodes, and you get a face-full of hot steam, very hot steam (HP 48/58).You stumble back for a moment in pain, then you look at the engine, you can see IT.The Lightning Core doesn’t look like much, a dull metal cube the size of your fist, but incredible lightning energies are dancing around it, maybe too much even for you to control or resist. It’s drawing in all the energy around it and feeding it into the now wrecked steam engine, it won’t be long before this engine holds more energy than it can handle, unless you remove the Core from it.(DE 22/27)>Pull Core out>This is dangerous, someone else should do it>Dimension Door in or out (who?)>OtherRoll 1d20+4 to resist the CALL to grab the CoreGendric >Sireyi is acting funny, grab her>Speak into horn, convince them everything is fine, except for the engine leak that needs to be dealt with, large leak, very dangerous, you can’t come in right now>other

Gendric speaks into the brass horn, confusing the pirates enough to delay a response. You reach out eagerly and grab hold of the metal cube, not even your powers can completely protect you from the energies raging around it (HP 42/58).As soon as you touch it you feel it drink in all of your power (DE 0/27, AE 0/34). It is agony. And then it starts to drain your life-force (HP 32/58), but you cannot let go, it is not agony, it is ecstasy. You’re not just using the power of the storm, you ARE the storm.High above the world you rage, hurling lightning and stormwinds this way and that, in the middle of you, two tiny floating things are lashed together, creatures even smaller than they are crawling around inside them. No, wait, that’s wrong, you’re not a storm, you’re Sireyi, you’re a half-angel and a paladin and a young girl, and this thing is KILLING YOU.But now that you’ve touched it you cannot let go, you either bend this thing to your will or you die. This is not a god, this is not a person, this is a thing, an enchanted object, and your will must win. This thing draws in the energies of the storms, that’s why it’s draining your life, your powers are close enough to a storm elemental. But it also channels them, you need to force it to pour all the energies back into you.GendricYou see Sireyi, she’s kneeling on the floor holding some metal cube, lightning dancing around her, getting close to her would be dangerous, but she looks in a bad way, what should you do?>Wait, lightning is her thing, she can do this>Try and pull that cube away from her>OtherRoll 1d20+4 to master the box.

You watch as the pirates hurry back to their burning vessel, dropping the loot they are carrying. You can see some flying over there on those stormwings, it would be so easy to just reach out and pinch off the power of those wings. But it wouldn’t be very nice to just drop them to the ground below, so you let them fly back to their ship. With the pirates panicking, your ship decides to leave, letting the pirates battle the blaze on their own.You all hurry back to your cabin and pretend you’ve been there the whole time.Well that was exciting. Indeed, it seems all that the ships passengers talk about for the rest of the trip was the pirate attack. Some of the demon-blooded, those with purer blood, talk about a powerful explosion of energy that set the ship on fire, they can’t quite define it though “not arcane” one says “but something...other, a power of judgement, pure in purpose , and terrifying.” The general consensus seems to be that it was the Lightning Core malfunctioning and exploding.Roll 1d20+5 Fellowship

>>33521627Sweetness. Well I'm certainly wondering how that shits going to go down. Maybe we should have done something. Thanks for running Pally. It was a ton of fun. So did we play the encounter right or could we have done better?>>33510835I've got to ask. Where the hell are you getting all of this lore and this system? Did you build it yourself and are you using it just for Paladin of Joy Quest or are you DMing with it elsewhere? Cus holy shit I'd love to play with this system and world in a normal players/DM situation.
>>33521627Yesterday, when Jal was taken hostage, the slaver was like, "Let me go or I'll kill her!">her!"How did he come by this knowledge?
CS error:>Adventuring Party>Isla Wendmore, of the House of Wendmore - A young noblewoman who is a skilled, though not powerful wizard. Seems to hero-worship Sireyi.>Matthias Fields - A young man afflicted with lycanthropy, he somehow keeps his wits about him when he transforms. A skilled fighter and very strong and fast>Jianxi - Rescued from a shipwreck as a child, this young Bard from an exotic faraway land excels at stealth and infiltrationIt should be about Bokin, Gendric, Sofia and Jal.CS request:Allies and Enemies:>Enemy: Lord Ninver and his cronies>Enemy: Basically all of Drache's government>Enemy: Possibly the Island of Storms, due to it being under Ninver's control>Ally: Wegenthal's clan (considered a friend of the clan)CS error:>Gear>Bracelet of HealingThought we gave that to Bokin?Partybin:>Bokin>Gear>No bracelet of healingDid we take it back, or am I just misremembering?CS error:None of our Dragon abilities are on the character sheet.Seriously, there isn't even a place for them to go.Sorcerer's magic is still there, but nothing draconic.
Question/Request Dump Time:Our Halo applies a malus to evil creatures, and demons always detect as evil.It also applies a bonus to all allies. How does it behave in regards to demon or part-demon allies? Can we choose lower levels of Aspect of the Dragon to turn into?I.E. If we had L2 AotD, could we use the L1 transformation? When you say, 'or a combination of both' in the AotD transformation description, does that only apply to the wings or would we go full fluff-dragon?If we got Permanent Sanctuary, could we turn it off completely or suppress it to the point of it not giving us away?Requesting a WorldBin update with a seperate section for this new world.Requesting a segment on Perils of the Arcane in the Rules pastebin. To clarify, I'm aware of how wild magic tends to work and not asking for a detailed list of results; I'm requesting a brief segment explaining what it is and what can cause it to activate. And maybe a few humorous examples of effects it could have.Requesting that Whispering Wind be added to L1 spell list as an N spell and purchased immediately with that one NL1 purchase point we have left.Reasoning: Wind is one of our domains and WW was previously seen on Jianxi's L1 spell list. That purchase point is driving me insane.
>>33521665>neuroseslolyeah, I know people like that. The ones in stable relationships. They don't stay together just becaue of some perpetual cost-benefit analysis, they literally can't be away from each other.
>>33521663Why did that spoiler not work?Do you need to use a lower case s or is it the fact that I write these up in notepad and then copy-paste?Because using the tab key for indentation is another thing that 4chan doesn't let translate into the quick reply box.I'm not going to delete the post, because seeing a spoiler as regular text is better than me posting them out of order.
>>33521775if you select text and then use Ctrl+s it automatically spoilers text. Also thanks for all the hard sperging you do. As a player I certainly appreciate your efforts
>>33521774Shame stable relationships getting harder these days.
>>33521676>Where the hell are you getting all of this lore and this system? Did you build it yourself and are you using it just for Paladin of Joy Quest or are you DMing with it elsewhere? I'm drawing it from a number of sources, what I read, what I watch, I'm pulling ideas and powers from my pet homebrew system that I've been writing for years (which is nothing like PoJ, I'm just cribbing some powers).I'm only using it with Paladin of Joy thus far. And I am of course, borrowing heavily from generic D&D >>33521679>How did he come by this knowledge?I was writing quickly in the heat of combat and forgot who knew what, he should have said *he*.Thanks Autism Anon, yeah, Perils of the Arcane, that'll be a fun one....
>>33521627Is what we ended up doing what you intended to lead to getting a hold of the box and mastering it?Was feeding on the storm an impossible feat or just DC20+ willpower check?Would conronting the sorcerer have evaded a whole lot of future grief?
>>33521663>CS suggestion:>>(p)Willpower- 19 (+4) Lightning Halo 29 (spells only, +9)>Would be better as:>>(p)Willpower- 16 (+3) Angel's Magic 19 (+4)>>Willpower Rolls:>>Any roll +4>>Spell-related rolls +9>More like what our fellowship rolls have, for consistency, if nothing else.>Also because knowing the unmodded base is important for stat purchasing. This is technically obselete due to that last minute CS change.Just mod all the numbers by +2 and it's fine.I guess. All these errors...I'm tempted to just delete everything and repost it.>>33521831I know about the shortcut, but I type these up in notepad and that shortcut doesn't work there.>>33521856It's a really great setting, and I'm happy to do it OP.>>33521880Yeah, I feel like not confronting the sorcerer might've been a trap option...
>>33521880>griefit's actually spelled fun
>>33521856Sweet. Thanks for responding. When/if PoJ ends I would very likely be up for playing in another one with this system, or just with you running it. You do a very good job running and its damn impressive for your first attempt.
>>33521901I salute your autism, man. You are doing God's work. Also yeah, spoilers need be lowercase.
If we ever die, can our final act be exploding into beams of light and clouds of dust while the word "JOY!" echoes throughout the area?
>>33521880>Is what we ended up doing what you intended to lead to getting a hold of the box and mastering it?You took a more direct path than expected, the box was the prize for triple 20, but success was not guaranteed. Touching the box as a result of failing the willpower check to resist its siren call would have resulted in higher DCs and more damage, so maybe touching it as soon as possible was the right choice.>Was feeding on the storm an impossible feat or just DC20+ willpower check?Willpower check DC 20, failure would have exploded the pirate vessel though.>Would conronting the sorcerer have evaded a whole lot of future grief? You'll find out next thread>>33521939Thank youThe next quest I would like to run after PoJ would likely be at least a year away.I already have some ideas, which may change of course. A big difference would be higher degree of sexual content, which may discourage some players, so I dunno if I'd ever run it, or just write it as a story.
>>33522004But who would the Pain, Fear, End, Fury, and Sorrow be?
>>33522005I would so not be surprised if the sorcerers tip actually gets us in with the rebels or something.I see that we can summon a storm. Can we summon a storm and use the box to pull power from it?
>>33522083>Can we summon a storm and use the box to pull power from it?Yes
>>33522005A paladin of Velya can practice Free Love so long as they are honest with their partners about it, right?
>>33522111Yes, Velya puts no restrictions on number or gender of partners, She only asks that you care about them and their happiness - which means not deceiving them.
>>33522106You have no idea how happy that makes me.My pants are now tight. And wet. I love you. Now you know...stupid spoilers fucking up
>>33522005>Higher degree of sexual contentLike hardcore or just kinda lewd stuff with a pastebin containing more...overt stuff every now and then?I'd prefer the latter, personally, and only if it doesn't drastically slow down the non-sexual parts of the quest.>DC 20The next roll I made, immediately after that choice, was an 18.We would've passed, factoring in our willpower mod.
>>33522106Coincidentally that's what drawing the storm into the box would have done, given you a large, on-demand storm you could pull out to feed upon when needed.Of course, unleashing a massive storm is kinda the opposite of subtlety
>>33522265I'm guessing that thing will come in very handy if/when we'll get about confronting demon lords.Just for fucks sake let's not allow the demon wizards take it away from us.
>>33522262The second optionEssentially, (female) MC has several husbando options, and can sleep with them when she wants to, or is feeling lonely etc.Sex scenes would not be the goal of the quest, just part of the story, like relationships, fights with foes, and dealing with everyday shit like a boss that hates you and the ghost of your crazy grandfather who won't leave you alone.
>>33522348Sounds very...slice of life.Modern era or another fantasy setting?Modern fantasy, maybe? Like shadowrun, or more light-hearted?I prefer things crunchy, as you may have already guessed.
>>33522265Did the pirate ship have some special machinery to aid the box, or could we just fly up high during a storm and try to absorb that one, when we're feeling more confident?I kind of want to have a storm in a box.
>>33522424Anon...We've already landed, the storm is likely dozens if not hundreds of miles behind us.We've just been detained by the demonic secret police.
>>33522413Future fantasyA galaxy with faster than light space-travel as well as superheroes and magical creatures. The story would focus more on superhero than space-battles or fantasy though, due to the main character - and the villains being super-powered individuals. The story would revolve around the MC trying to have a normal life despite a rather fucked-up upbringing.Of course, supervillains out to kill you gets in the way of that too, because your grandfather made sure you were the last person to possess a (allegedly) unbeatable power he taught you how to use.As for crunch, I'd run this either with the same base rules-set of PoJ, or a (modified for forum play rather than face-to-face) version of the rules I built the setting in. Which is my own pet homebrew. In MS word the total filesize of the rules and setting is 20mb>>33522424You can fly up into a storm and try and take one, just don't bollix the roll. The pirate ship had machinery that was designed to integrate it with the engine more than anything else.
>>33522609Sounds cool, just don't end PoJ early because you're excited for this other idea, please. And don't try running two quests at once, that never ends well.>>33522424>>33522588Also, I know realize he was talking about *any* storm, not the one around the pirate airship in particular. The phrasing confused me slightly.
